- 0:04Speaker 1: but Hailen from the City of Sands.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Put your hands together for Jamison Welch.
- 0:08Speaker 1: And in this corner, standing at five foot ten, weighing
- 0:11Speaker 1: in at pound and coming to us from his super
- 0:15Speaker 1: secret bunker with no AC in Tucson, Arizona.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Put your hands together for Luis Montemao.
- 0:25Speaker 1: All right, thank you, Welcome back to another episode of
- 0:28Speaker 1: Next Somebody Podcasts. It's gonna be a short edition, however,
- 0:32Speaker 1: I'm always Jamison, Joan Bi, Luise, Louise.
- 0:35Speaker 2: What's going on, man?
- 0:37Speaker 3: Yeah, well, Jamison, We're here to talk about one very
- 0:40Speaker 3: specific fight from the weekend, the Alexander Usik versus Rico
- 0:44Speaker 3: for Hoven boxing match. Yeah. I mean we had said
- 0:48Speaker 3: before that, you know, neither of us was very interested
- 0:51Speaker 3: in this matchup because Rico for Hooven was a kickboxer.
- 0:54Speaker 3: He was one to zero in boxing. We both thought
- 0:56Speaker 3: it was kind of ridiculous. I was more interested in
- 0:59Speaker 3: the undercard, but my dumb ass forgot that this fight
- 1:02Speaker 3: was in Egypt, so I realized it was like, I
- 1:05Speaker 3: don't even know what time it was, maybe like three thirty,
- 1:07Speaker 3: four thirty PM, and I was like, oh, crap, ooh, crap,
- 1:10Speaker 3: o crap. So I turned on the TV. Turns out
- 1:14Speaker 3: I only caught the main event. So that was a
- 1:17Speaker 3: boo boo on my part. You know, you hear Saturday
- 1:19Speaker 3: Big event, Usik's fighting. In my brain, it's like Saturday night, right,
- 1:23Speaker 3: So it's you know, getting used to all of these other,
- 1:27Speaker 3: you know fights back by the Saudi's during the day.
- 1:29Speaker 3: It just it hasn't clicked with my brain. So but yeah,
- 1:34Speaker 3: the fight was was controversial, so we'll start here. You know,
- 1:37Speaker 3: Rica Overhoman looked good in the ring. He looked really
- 1:39Speaker 3: good against Usik. Usik looked a little snoozy. There was
- 1:43Speaker 3: a stoppage in round eleven seconds before the bell rang,
- 1:47Speaker 3: possibly even like one or two seconds before the bell rang.
- 1:50Speaker 3: People thought it was very controversial of controvers stoppage and
- 1:55Speaker 3: that it was a protection for Usick. Maybe. What did
- 1:58Speaker 3: you think about it? What was your thoughts on whether
- 2:00Speaker 3: that stoppage was legit or the legitimacy of the win.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I think the win is the wind. I mean, the
- 2:07Speaker 1: stoppage was a little bit controversial, but I don't think
- 2:10Speaker 1: it was like we need an investigation bad I don't
- 2:13Speaker 1: think it was at I think it was boxing. I
- 2:16Speaker 1: don't think it was even crazy. With that being said,
- 2:21Speaker 1: guys that are our age fighting, you're gonna see slippage.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Like it's a reason why you know guys aren't good
- 2:28Speaker 1: after like thirty five. It's the reason why you can
- 2:31Speaker 1: tell whether it's age, where he's injured, whatever it is,
- 2:35Speaker 1: you can tell, man, he just didn't have it that night.
- 2:39Speaker 1: He did not have it like you just it was.
- 2:43Speaker 1: And it's what happens with boxers, like you never lose
- 2:46Speaker 1: it until you like in the ring, and it goes.
- 2:50Speaker 1: It doesn't happen gradually. A lot of times it's just like, oh,
- 2:54Speaker 1: this is the same guy anymore, and it happens. And
- 2:57Speaker 1: I think that's what kind of happened on Saturday afternoon.
- 3:00Speaker 1: And you mess around with a challenger that doesn't care
- 3:03Speaker 1: about anything you've done, that's ready for war, and look
- 3:06Speaker 1: that's what we got. And I'm looking in the situations like, man,
- 3:10Speaker 1: this could have this could have went a different way.
- 3:13Speaker 1: And now the heavyweight division already is kind of in
- 3:16Speaker 1: flux and now it's kind of wide open. Now. I
- 3:19Speaker 1: think I was watching like, hey, I could do this.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I compete with that. So I just think Saturday kind
- 3:25Speaker 1: of opened things up a little bit. Whether it's controversial
- 3:27Speaker 1: or not, I just think that Saturday kind of like
- 3:29Speaker 1: opened a lot of eyes and possibilities. The only issue
- 3:32Speaker 1: is those possibilities aren't in the States. All those fights
- 3:36Speaker 1: when being made elsewhere apartminack you made here.
- 3:38Speaker 2: That's the only thing that sucks.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Yeah, So do you have any opinion or is there
- 3:43Speaker 3: any way for people to kind of know whether, yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 3: usick might have lost it because that just happens everybody,
- 3:48Speaker 3: or maybe just had a bad night, Like do you
- 3:50Speaker 3: have any sense of either or both?
- 3:52Speaker 1: It could be both, because here's the thing, like you
- 3:55Speaker 1: g have a bad night, but at thirty nine, your
- 3:57Speaker 1: bad nights are usually due to you kind of losing it,
- 4:00Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like that's kind of when
- 4:02Speaker 1: you have a bad night at twenty seven, it's just
- 4:04Speaker 1: a bad night. You know, you got out corner and
- 4:07Speaker 1: got out box. Sometime you're still come out with the wind.
- 4:10Speaker 1: It happens having a bad night at thirty nine. It
- 4:13Speaker 1: kind of is what it is like. You know, you
- 4:15Speaker 1: have a bad night at thirty nine, and this is
- 4:17Speaker 1: kind of who you are, and you gotta be very
- 4:19Speaker 1: careful because if you're not honest with yourself, and you're
- 4:24Speaker 1: not you know, taking a deep, deep dive into who
- 4:27Speaker 1: you are and what's going on, it can get bad,
- 4:30Speaker 1: it can get ugly. So we'll see what happens. I'm
- 4:33Speaker 1: very curious on what the next steps are. But man,
- 4:36Speaker 1: it was. But you know we've seen when you've seen
- 4:39Speaker 1: somebody so much boxing, this is normal, Like it is normal.
- 4:42Speaker 1: That's why, like everybody's giving Terrence Crawford a lot of
- 4:46Speaker 1: you know, guff right now. It's like, nah, he knows what,
- 4:50Speaker 1: he knows his body, he knows his age, he knows
- 4:53Speaker 1: how much he has left. And if you don't want
- 4:55Speaker 1: to fight, no more, more power to him.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Absolutely, And just to be clear for the listeners who
- 5:00Speaker 3: and I know this, you know you're not just pulling
- 5:02Speaker 3: thirty nine as like a random age of a man
- 5:05Speaker 3: who's old for boxing. Alexander Usik is literally thirty nine
- 5:07Speaker 3: years old, which which is wild, which is a wild
- 5:11Speaker 3: age to be boxing period. And for him, you know,
- 5:14Speaker 3: amazing that he won the heavyweight championship against Fury. Here's
- 5:18Speaker 3: my thing that really stuck out because we could say
- 5:20Speaker 3: about like oh bad, stop this or that. You know,
- 5:23Speaker 3: this fight shouldn't have been made. Rico should have won.
- 5:25Speaker 3: The thing that stuck out to most of me is
- 5:27Speaker 3: did you see any images of the judges scorecards after
- 5:32Speaker 3: the fight anywhere, like on social media?
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yes? Yeah, so it was ninety four two of them
- 5:38Speaker 1: were tied four then the challenger was up on the
- 5:42Speaker 1: other card ninety six. Either it was no, so I
- 5:47Speaker 1: think it was ninety five ninety five on two cards
- 5:50Speaker 1: in ninety six ninety four on the one that was
- 5:52Speaker 1: for the challenger, which was interesting, which was very interesting.
- 5:55Speaker 3: Yes, yes, so one one judge had even Rico up
- 6:00Speaker 3: one round when when the stop itch happened. Yeah, so,
- 6:03Speaker 3: and I always my math brain, I'm sorry, Like with age,
- 6:07Speaker 3: math has just gone out the window. So I always
- 6:09Speaker 3: hate when they use numbers for scores. But it's it's
- 6:11Speaker 3: out of ten, you know ten, someone win's around, they
- 6:14Speaker 3: get ten points, they lose around, they get nine points,
- 6:16Speaker 3: they get knocked down, they get doctor point. But so
- 6:18Speaker 3: I always I always prefer to use you know, this
- 6:21Speaker 3: person was a round as appost at ninety six ninety
- 6:23Speaker 3: four whatever, But that's just me because again math brain
- 6:26Speaker 3: has gone. But no, I was really this really reminded
- 6:29Speaker 3: me of do you remember when Tyson Fury fought Francis Naganu,
- 6:33Speaker 3: the guy from the UFC That was in twenty twenty three,
- 6:36Speaker 3: and Fury took home the win with the decision also
- 6:40Speaker 3: controversial people saying that Nagana should have won. I personally think, honestly,
- 6:44Speaker 3: I thought Nagana won that fight, and I hate to
- 6:48Speaker 3: be the conspiracy guy the boxing is corrupt guy, but
- 6:52Speaker 3: Francis Nagano versus Tyson Fury was also kind of a
- 6:56Speaker 3: stunt fight. It was before the Usik Fury matchup was
- 6:59Speaker 3: gonna happen, and then you got a kickboxer. I'm I
- 7:03Speaker 3: would say if I was a conspiracy guy, I would
- 7:05Speaker 3: say that these stunt fights, there's never a chance anyway
- 7:10Speaker 3: for this challenger that's not a boxer to take the
- 7:13Speaker 3: heavyweight championship from either of those guys. I don't really
- 7:17Speaker 3: think that that was ever going to happen. So let's
- 7:20Speaker 3: say that if Usik didn't if they let the fight go,
- 7:23Speaker 3: if Usik didn't get a knockdown, will would those judges
- 7:27Speaker 3: scorecards still have have the both of them tied or
- 7:30Speaker 3: two two out of three have the fight tied I
- 7:32Speaker 3: think maybe, to be quite honest with you, I don't
- 7:34Speaker 3: know anything.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Well, it's tough because we don't know happens around twelve,
- 7:37Speaker 1: Like that's the thing. We have no clue, So it's
- 7:40Speaker 1: kind of hard to speculate. But I think we're going
- 7:44Speaker 1: towards some sort of I don't know the rules of
- 7:47Speaker 1: this said fight, but it looks like we're going to
- 7:49Speaker 1: a majority draw. It looks like we're head of that way.
- 7:53Speaker 1: That's the way it was looking, with the way the
- 7:55Speaker 1: cards are looking in a way, if I was looking now.
- 7:58Speaker 1: That being said, Rico is very close to winning that
- 8:03Speaker 1: fight if for some reason, if somehow, some way he
- 8:07Speaker 1: stays you know, you know, he avoids what happened eleventh Roald,
- 8:10Speaker 1: he probably wants to fight.
- 8:11Speaker 2: That's the craziest part. But that's boxing. Like that's why
- 8:14Speaker 2: boxing is.
- 8:15Speaker 1: So fun because at a moment's notice, your whole portugal change.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So that's why it's very fascinating what happens in these
- 8:22Speaker 1: championship type fights. That being said, U Sig in his
- 8:26Speaker 1: camp better be very very careful going forward, because yes,
- 8:30Speaker 1: right now I can make a lot of money. He's
- 8:32Speaker 1: still a big name. You know, he's a champ. But man, nah, man,
- 8:37Speaker 1: do you no one hold him, no one fold him?
- 8:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean definitely. Here's the thing I'm looking at.
- 8:43Speaker 3: I'm looking again the fury versus the guy who results,
- 8:47Speaker 3: versus what the fight looked like to me to me,
- 8:49Speaker 3: and then I'm looking at the scorecards we got based
- 8:52Speaker 3: on how the fight looked to me up to that point. Yes,
- 8:54Speaker 3: we don't know what happens in round twelve, but I
- 8:57Speaker 3: didn't see a draw happening in those whatever ten rounds.
- 9:01Speaker 3: I saw ric over home and up a couple of rounds.
- 9:03Speaker 3: And sure I could go back and do the thing
- 9:05Speaker 3: where I watch it and kind of score it myself
- 9:07Speaker 3: and do the thing. But I am speaking just about
- 9:10Speaker 3: what it looked like on the night of or the
- 9:12Speaker 3: afternoon of. And yeah, I really, I really think that
- 9:15Speaker 3: it would have been a recod decision if it wasn't
- 9:17Speaker 3: a stoppage or a knockout. Here's where we can get
- 9:20Speaker 3: a little extra conspiracy. E theorist t so Reek Overhovan
- 9:25Speaker 3: was knocked down legitimately by a NUSI punch, got back up,
- 9:30Speaker 3: gave him the eight count. He got back in there
- 9:32Speaker 3: and was getting was getting his ass kicked by us definitely,
- 9:36Speaker 3: Like I believe that the eight count ended when they
- 9:39Speaker 3: hit the little twelve second ten second cow bell, So
- 9:45Speaker 3: was there a chance like was this now or never?
- 9:47Speaker 3: You know, Usik was kicking ass and then you stop
- 9:49Speaker 3: the fight so that we don't have to go to
- 9:51Speaker 3: round twelve, so we don't have to, you know, have
- 9:54Speaker 3: the possibility of Reek over Home becoming the heavyweight champ.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Maybe I don't know, I'm getting merry. Yep, it would
- 10:01Speaker 3: make sense, right. It's just like after his knockdown, while
- 10:06Speaker 3: he was getting his ass kick, the fight was gonna
- 10:08Speaker 3: end in literally one or two seconds, true, true, Like
- 10:11Speaker 3: I'm sorry the round, the round was gonna end, not
- 10:14Speaker 3: the fight. Round eleven was gonna end in one or
- 10:16Speaker 3: two seconds literally, and you know that that barrage of
- 10:21Speaker 3: punches that Rico was taking again he was getting his
- 10:23Speaker 3: ass kicked. But I didn't see it as being too
- 10:25Speaker 3: different from anything that other fighters have powered through at
- 10:30Speaker 3: the very end of a round. So yeah, I mean,
- 10:32Speaker 3: maybe this was the kind of thing where you know,
- 10:35Speaker 3: as soon as you get a chance to get in
- 10:37Speaker 3: there and keep the belts with Usik, let's take it.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I do.
- 10:43Speaker 3: I love the sport and you know. But I'm also
- 10:45Speaker 3: not stupid to be like boxing because could never be corrupt,
- 10:49Speaker 3: you know, But I don't know. I mean, it's about
- 10:53Speaker 3: this as as a boxing expert is someone who knows
- 10:56Speaker 3: way much more about it in history than I do.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Do you think I'm going too far by by positing
- 11:00Speaker 3: these things, Jameson?
- 11:02Speaker 1: I mean, when it comes to the boxing, you can't
- 11:04Speaker 1: rule anything out because we've seen so much and there's
- 11:07Speaker 1: so much at stake. Also, it takes a lot to
- 11:12Speaker 1: dethrown a champ, especially in a division like that where
- 11:15Speaker 1: there's a lot of money at stake. So if that
- 11:18Speaker 1: guy is trying to close the show of around ye,
- 11:21Speaker 1: I can see that. I can see, I see the rest.
- 11:25Speaker 1: So the one thing I will say is this the
- 11:27Speaker 1: rest favor the favorite, the rest favorite the champ. You
- 11:32Speaker 1: have to literally beat the shit out of the champ
- 11:35Speaker 1: to win the fight.
- 11:37Speaker 2: This is how it goes, That's how it always goes.
- 11:39Speaker 1: You gotta knock them, you knock champ out, or you
- 11:41Speaker 1: gotta severely be able to champ.
- 11:44Speaker 2: And in the second instant there's no gette.
- 11:47Speaker 1: You'll win, but you got to really convincingly take that
- 11:51Speaker 1: champ's belt and if you're not going to do that,
- 11:55Speaker 1: it's very tough because the ref will do things to
- 11:58Speaker 1: keep the fight close.
- 12:00Speaker 2: The RAF will, you know.
- 12:02Speaker 1: They will, you know, if you guys are clinching too much,
- 12:06Speaker 1: they'll kind of you know, they'll kind of slope, I see,
- 12:09Speaker 1: muck up the fight. They'll slope the tempo and they'll
- 12:12Speaker 1: do things. They'll they'll do things. But also, hell, I
- 12:15Speaker 1: will say this, when it comes down to it, everybody
- 12:19Speaker 1: knows what's at stake when it comes to these fights.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Everyone knows what's going on. There's not a lot of
- 12:25Speaker 1: value in a challenger winning a fight, first heavyweight champion
- 12:29Speaker 1: at this stage in the game. There's just not not
- 12:31Speaker 1: like it ain't like it is twenty five years ago.
- 12:33Speaker 1: It's not the case. We understand what that stake, We
- 12:36Speaker 1: understand the business of everything. And you're in a different country,
- 12:40Speaker 1: so it's not like you're in Vegas or New York
- 12:43Speaker 1: City or LA.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Who knows what's going on over there.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Well, this this whole thing was kind of this whole
- 12:49Speaker 3: thing was weird. I did read I saw Jason Statham ringside,
- 12:52Speaker 3: which I was like confused by, but I looked it
- 12:55Speaker 3: up and apparently he was involved in making this fight
- 12:58Speaker 3: happen because he was friends with Ricover. You know, Case's
- 13:01Speaker 3: being a kickboxing guy. He was, he's he's good, he's
- 13:04Speaker 3: in't good with the Sadis, So yeah, he apparently he
- 13:08Speaker 3: was a big driving force behind this. But yeah, I
- 13:11Speaker 3: mean you've got not only you know, these deals being
- 13:14Speaker 3: made with somebody with a fighter that's not in boxing
- 13:17Speaker 3: at all, plus with the Saudis kind of like you said,
- 13:20Speaker 3: he can't rule anything out. But yeah, the other thing
- 13:25Speaker 3: is that you did say that the red favors a champion.
- 13:28Speaker 3: And let's be real, so so do the.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Judges always always, unless you're in a weird state or
- 13:34Speaker 1: something's going on. But for the most part, nine times
- 13:37Speaker 1: out of ten, the judges give the benefit of the doubt,
- 13:40Speaker 1: especially on the first fight, especially the first fight to
- 13:44Speaker 1: the champ.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:46Speaker 3: So, I mean, I'm not gonna sit here and say that,
- 13:49Speaker 3: you know, one hundred percent say that it was a robbery.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Because here's another thing too. I do strongly believe seeing
- 13:56Speaker 3: how much ass Lusik was kicking at the end the
- 13:58Speaker 3: eleventh round, if Usik kept that up in round twelve,
- 14:02Speaker 3: it could absolutely have ended with a knockout. Right, So yes,
- 14:08Speaker 3: he was very snoozy throughout the fight. Even the announcers
- 14:10Speaker 3: were saying, you know, well, Usik can kind of take
- 14:13Speaker 3: his time to download information. He might be a sow starter.
- 14:16Speaker 3: But by around like eight, they're like, where the hell
- 14:18Speaker 3: is he? Like why has he he woken up and
- 14:21Speaker 3: thrown it? Let his hands go, things like that, And
- 14:24Speaker 3: I agree, you know, Rico was definitely we looked really
- 14:28Speaker 3: good in terms of punch volume, speed, But yeah, Usik did. Finally,
- 14:35Speaker 3: finally somebody called him and reminded him that there was
- 14:37Speaker 3: a fucking boxing match happening, and he woke up and
- 14:39Speaker 3: run eleven. Thank god, but he and again he looked great.
- 14:43Speaker 3: You know, the punch he through were precise and definitely
- 14:46Speaker 3: hurting Rico. And I would believe as well that if
- 14:49Speaker 3: it went to a twelve, Usik would have gotten the knockout. Yeah,
- 14:53Speaker 3: that's that's I'd give that like a seventy five percent
- 14:55Speaker 3: chance of happening based on what we saw. But again,
- 15:00Speaker 3: if you take the risk, let it go to a
- 15:03Speaker 3: decision and it comes out of majority draw, after what
- 15:05Speaker 3: we would have seen, I think I think people would
- 15:07Speaker 3: have thought it was even more ridiculous that it was
- 15:10Speaker 3: a majority draw. To be quite honest with you, yeah,
- 15:13Speaker 3: because we're not talking about you know, we're talking about
- 15:15Speaker 3: an eleventh round stop. The fight was pretty clear for
- 15:19Speaker 3: the majority of the time, So right, yeah, I mean,
- 15:23Speaker 3: the biggest thing about Usak's career going forward is that
- 15:26Speaker 3: I've lamented kind of that there's not really any a
- 15:29Speaker 3: lot of exciting things happening because he was talking about
- 15:31Speaker 3: maybe fighting Tyson Fury a third time, fighting something maybe
- 15:34Speaker 3: like Daniel Duboi again or something like that. Nothing that
- 15:38Speaker 3: really like made me stoked for the end of Usak's career.
- 15:42Speaker 3: And now I mean is are people going to see
- 15:45Speaker 3: blood in the water? Like what's gonna happen to the guy?
- 15:47Speaker 1: Blood is definitely in the water. Blood is one of
- 15:50Speaker 1: those things where it's like whoa, okay, like what's going
- 15:52Speaker 1: on here? It's one of those like hey, like you know,
- 15:57Speaker 1: he look kind of shaky, like okay, because remember, all
- 16:01Speaker 1: you need is one fight versus somebody take their built
- 16:03Speaker 1: in your career has changed forever. All you need is
- 16:06Speaker 1: the one fight, and everybody's looking like, oh, it looks vulnerable,
- 16:10Speaker 1: all right, a little older. By the time the next
- 16:13Speaker 1: fight happens, were months away. Because he's not gonna come
- 16:15Speaker 1: back in two months, so you know, he might be
- 16:18Speaker 1: forty five time he fights again.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll say this. You know, we talked about Turkeyela
- 16:25Speaker 3: Shik was talking about Benavidez versus Usak, and you know,
- 16:29Speaker 3: last episode we mentioned that Benavide's kind of said, well,
- 16:32Speaker 3: I would move up to heavenweight, but not for another
- 16:34Speaker 3: five years. Benavidez would beat that version of Usek easy.
- 16:38Speaker 3: I would definitely give it to Benavidez after what we
- 16:40Speaker 3: saw on Saturday. Right previously, I'd said, you know, have
- 16:45Speaker 3: to maybe look at some tape and kind of determine,
- 16:47Speaker 3: you know what where Ustik's vulnerabilities were. But yeah, it
- 16:51Speaker 3: was wild. I mean definitely, if Rico Verehovan had one,
- 16:57Speaker 3: if it went to decision anyone, it would have been,
- 16:59Speaker 3: like I guess, one of the biggest modern upsets that
- 17:02Speaker 3: I that I can think of. But again, like I
- 17:06Speaker 3: don't see the boxing world kind of just letting this
- 17:09Speaker 3: dude pop in from the kickboxing after one fights and
- 17:12Speaker 3: becoming the heavyweight champ, Like that's that's the kind of
- 17:15Speaker 3: thing you would just it would be kind of an
- 17:16Speaker 3: embarrassment for boxing. Does that make sense?
- 17:19Speaker 1: It is, but an ay, I mean, I think we're
- 17:20Speaker 1: in a different world now. I think we're thinking to traditionalists.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I think now we have to understand that boxing is different,
- 17:28Speaker 1: Boxing is in a different stage now, and I think
- 17:30Speaker 1: we also have to understand the guys that are pure boxers,
- 17:33Speaker 1: that are older, they're way more vulnerable than we think of.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Even like you mentioned Tyson Fury versus Nicano a couple
- 17:39Speaker 1: years ago, Tyson Fury was older than too. He was
- 17:42Speaker 1: in his thirty upper thirties during then, too, and I
- 17:45Speaker 1: know of his training regimen it wasn't great. So yeah, no,
- 17:50Speaker 1: it's we're in a different stage of things, and the
- 17:54Speaker 1: boxers nowadays process and do things a little bit differently
- 17:59Speaker 1: than gods.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Yes, it's just a different era, that's all.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Sure, that's fair. And I do think as well that
- 18:06Speaker 3: even with the loss, you know, ric Overhoving isn't walking
- 18:09Speaker 3: away empty handed. If he wants to continue boxing, if
- 18:12Speaker 3: he wants to continue being a boxer. He's got hype
- 18:15Speaker 3: behind his name. People will say, you know, oh, now
- 18:18Speaker 3: people are fans of this guy. They know who he is.
- 18:21Speaker 3: You know, obviously he was a big name in the
- 18:23Speaker 3: kickboxing world, but especially after his performance that people are
- 18:28Speaker 3: going to show up to her his next one if
- 18:29Speaker 3: he keeps going right. So I feel like, let's say this,
- 18:33Speaker 3: I feel like if he was robbed and you know,
- 18:35Speaker 3: the powers came together to make sure that he didn't
- 18:38Speaker 3: become the heavyweight champ, it was sort of like, but
- 18:41Speaker 3: you got something out of this rico, Like, you got
- 18:43Speaker 3: some fame, you got some hype, and you made some fans.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Right, So here's a similar situation. Okay, remember tank first
- 18:51Speaker 1: roach that was on the verge of being a very
- 18:54Speaker 1: big upset. It was very it was very close, very
- 18:57Speaker 1: very close. These things do happen that might wrote to
- 19:00Speaker 1: a lot of money, and they basically propelled his career
- 19:04Speaker 1: to where he's getting regular fights that people care about.
- 19:06Speaker 1: So these things do matter. With that being said, if
- 19:09Speaker 1: you're able to close the show, it changes everything. But
- 19:13Speaker 1: you bring up a good point. You know, we got
- 19:15Speaker 1: kickboxers coming in, we got all these hybrid fights, and
- 19:19Speaker 1: I just think that expect the unexpected.
- 19:23Speaker 2: At this point with the heavyweights, I think you kind
- 19:25Speaker 2: of have to expect unexpected because.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Remember, they're in it to make money, and right now,
- 19:29Speaker 1: there's not enough name brand heavyweights. So if there is
- 19:33Speaker 1: a cross promotion thing going on, then we kind of
- 19:36Speaker 1: just gotta live with it because it ain't going nowhere,
- 19:39Speaker 1: and everybody's in to make money. No one people care
- 19:42Speaker 1: about the sport, but they care about making money more.
- 19:44Speaker 3: If that makes sense, Oh absolutely, And I definitely with you.
- 19:48Speaker 3: How about this, I'll say that we're definitely going to
- 19:51Speaker 3: see more cross promotion, more stunt fights. Like that's perfectly
- 19:55Speaker 3: like understandable. But I feel that maybe I could hear this.
- 19:59Speaker 3: I'm totally speculating. I'm just you know, just going off
- 20:02Speaker 3: vibes and and you know, just completely making this up.
- 20:05Speaker 3: But I feel like somebody would could make a deal
- 20:09Speaker 3: with like a kickboxer, you FC guy, and they say,
- 20:11Speaker 3: we're gonna give you a chance to fight a big
- 20:13Speaker 3: ass name. You're not gonna win, but if you show
- 20:15Speaker 3: up and like kick ass in this fight and look good,
- 20:18Speaker 3: then that'll kind of propel you forward and you'll have
- 20:20Speaker 3: good promotion, good hype behind you, and somebody would take
- 20:22Speaker 3: that fight because they're gonna make a load of money
- 20:24Speaker 3: and they're going to walk away, you know, with with
- 20:28Speaker 3: hype behind them for the next one. So again that
- 20:31Speaker 3: just kind of I'm feeding into my own conspiracy theories
- 20:35Speaker 3: about uh, you know this this particular fight again, comparing
- 20:40Speaker 3: it with the Fury Nagano This this literally has happened
- 20:42Speaker 3: twice when there's a very good chance that a complete
- 20:47Speaker 3: unknown in the boxing world comes in upsets the champ,
- 20:52Speaker 3: you know, it becomes the heavyweight champion with only one
- 20:55Speaker 3: or two boxing matches under there, you know, in their career, right,
- 20:59Speaker 3: And I feel like maybe that's just that's just not
- 21:01Speaker 3: that's not going to be allowed, you know, Okay, I
- 21:05Speaker 3: don't know. I mean, it was very very interesting to see,
- 21:08Speaker 3: and uh yeah, I definitely wanted to come at this
- 21:11Speaker 3: with a kind of a different approach other than people
- 21:13Speaker 3: just saying bad stopage robbery, et cetera, and kind of
- 21:16Speaker 3: really dig into what we saw and and what what
- 21:21Speaker 3: what the basically what the hell happened? And how did
- 21:24Speaker 3: this kickboxer come in looking so good and ready to
- 21:27Speaker 3: take this win? But yeah, you know, like I say,
- 21:31Speaker 3: we want to keep this episode short. We're going, uh
- 21:33Speaker 3: at least for the summer, We're definitely going to be
- 21:35Speaker 3: doing weekly content, but uh, we're going to try to
- 21:38Speaker 3: find a couple of topics here that we hyper focus
