- 0:02Speaker 1: Here we go. Susan Sluster are joining us right now
- 0:04Speaker 1: and you can check her out on the brand new
- 0:07Speaker 1: Splash Hit Territory about six weeks old as a regular
- 0:10Speaker 1: contributor there fp Santangelo hosting great show and of course
- 0:14Speaker 1: checking out all of Susan Slusser's articles as well, including
- 0:18Speaker 1: many in the San Francisco Chronicle about what the Giants
- 0:21Speaker 1: are up to this offseason. Susan, great to see you,
- 0:23Speaker 1: and yeah, let's get right to the good stuff. So
- 0:26Speaker 1: fans have been asking all day, actually giants, questions about
- 0:29Speaker 1: what's next and are they really involved on the second
- 0:31Speaker 1: base market. Are you about to make everyone in that
- 0:34Speaker 1: crowd very happy or a little disappointed?
- 0:38Speaker 2: Sorr, I got very angry Kat right now, who wants
- 0:40Speaker 2: to get fed? You know what, this could be the
- 0:44Speaker 2: shortest segment you guys have ever had because the Giants
- 0:47Speaker 2: just like they seem like they're doing almost nothing. You know, yes,
- 0:51Speaker 2: they've filled out their rotation sort of at the with
- 0:55Speaker 2: back end guys, but it's been underwhelming and all the
- 1:00Speaker 2: signaling from ownership has been that they are not going
- 1:05Speaker 2: to spend a time, They're not going to do long
- 1:07Speaker 2: term deals. I'm a little baffled because, yes, the Dodgers
- 1:10Speaker 2: are the power, not just in the division but in baseball.
- 1:14Speaker 2: They're looking up in the division for sure, but they
- 1:18Speaker 2: missed the playoffs by two games last year. All you
- 1:21Speaker 2: have to do is make the playoffs. The Giants dynasty
- 1:24Speaker 2: showed that they were never the best team those years.
- 1:26Speaker 2: They got some very clear needs and I feel like
- 1:29Speaker 2: they need to address them.
- 1:31Speaker 3: But doesn't Buster. If ownership says, Okay, we're not going
- 1:34Speaker 3: to go big on anybody, he isn't Buster's MO. And
- 1:37Speaker 3: I guess he's not been a GM for this long
- 1:40Speaker 3: to have a GMMO. But just the way he played,
- 1:43Speaker 3: the way he's talked since he's been a GM, doesn't
- 1:46Speaker 3: that just mean he's going to go after one of
- 1:48Speaker 3: these trades? Or is there something that ownership says, no, no, no,
- 1:51Speaker 3: we don't want to risk the future of our organization.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I don't know how you that line
- 2:00Speaker 2: as sort of a new GM. But he's Buster Posey.
- 2:04Speaker 2: You know, he comes with his own cachet. He's a
- 2:08Speaker 2: franchise icon, and he's a part owner, you know, very
- 2:12Speaker 2: small percentage, but he's in that ownership group. They obviously
- 2:16Speaker 2: do listen to him, and he has said repeatedly when
- 2:20Speaker 2: he goes to them with an idea, they have been
- 2:23Speaker 2: very supportive. So I'm not sure what to make of that. Right,
- 2:28Speaker 2: he knows their needs. First of all, they need another outfielder.
- 2:32Speaker 2: They need a very strong defensive outfielder at the least,
- 2:36Speaker 2: but with their offense being mediocre at best most of
- 2:40Speaker 2: last season, they need a really good defensive outfielder who
- 2:43Speaker 2: can also hit. A Cody Bellinger type or you know,
- 2:48Speaker 2: at least Harrison Vader, someone like that. We have seen
- 2:52Speaker 2: really no indications. They may calls on a lot of
- 2:54Speaker 2: guys early on, but we just haven't seen any major action.
- 2:58Speaker 2: But he's buster posey, and we do know he likes
- 3:01Speaker 2: to take big swings. The Devers deal, hiring Tony Vaitello
- 3:05Speaker 2: out of the college ranks, I mean, these things are
- 3:08Speaker 2: really huge decisions, and he did talk ownership into both
- 3:12Speaker 2: of them. I think he needs to try to talk
- 3:14Speaker 2: ownership into adding probably another starting pitcher, but certainly a
- 3:20Speaker 2: good bat who can play in the outfield, because their
- 3:23Speaker 2: outfield defense was the worst in the league last year
- 3:26Speaker 2: and their offense was just not enough to compete with.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Okay, before I get to My follow up question I
- 3:35Speaker 4: want to know this is that because Buster Posey doesn't
- 3:39Speaker 4: want to spend money, because surely he wants to spend money,
- 3:41Speaker 4: and he knows that better players and more money makes
- 3:44Speaker 4: you a better team. So does he not have the
- 3:47Speaker 4: cachet with the ownership group and I know he's Buster
- 3:49Speaker 4: Posey and I know all that stuff where he can
- 3:52Speaker 4: go to them and say, hey, we need another twenty
- 3:54Speaker 4: five million to add a outfield or a starting pitcher
- 3:56Speaker 4: or a bullpen or whatever they might need or a
- 3:58Speaker 4: second baseman, where his owner just like nope, because they
- 4:01Speaker 4: sell out San Francisco and they're decent. That place is rocking,
- 4:04Speaker 4: they have the you know, all the stuff going on
- 4:05Speaker 4: around it. So what is why is that not happening
- 4:09Speaker 4: where they can go and say, hey, I need twenty
- 4:12Speaker 4: five more million guys.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I mean, he seems convinced that when he wants to
- 4:18Speaker 2: spend big they will let him. We just aren't seeing it.
- 4:21Speaker 2: So again, there's just sort of a disconnect between what
- 4:24Speaker 2: he's saying and what ownership is saying, and then what
- 4:27Speaker 2: we're seeing happening slash not happening at all. Really, maybe
- 4:32Speaker 2: they're waiting to pick up some deals closer towards spring training.
- 4:36Speaker 2: I don't know if that's necessarily going to happen, but
- 4:38Speaker 2: you know, early on the Athletic reported that they would
- 4:42Speaker 2: not be in am I Giants fans were outraged, but
- 4:45Speaker 2: as it turned out, they could have afforded am I
- 4:48Speaker 2: if they wanted. You know, absolutely they could. They could
- 4:51Speaker 2: have been in on you know, maybe not Tucker, but
- 4:54Speaker 2: certainly they could be in on Cody Bellinger. Greg Johnson
- 4:58Speaker 2: told me at the very Star to the off season,
- 5:01Speaker 2: right after Vitello was hired, actually that the team doesn't
- 5:06Speaker 2: want those big contracts. They've got five right now. They
- 5:09Speaker 2: don't want a ton on the books, particularly starting pitching.
- 5:12Speaker 2: But he also said they're not afraid to go over
- 5:15Speaker 2: the luxury attacks, which they've done before. But last year
- 5:19Speaker 2: their payroll was down and again they just missed the postseason.
- 5:24Speaker 2: So you know, look a lot of reasons for that.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I thought that Posey's moves at the time, at the
- 5:29Speaker 2: deadline and moving essentially the back into the rotation with
- 5:34Speaker 2: Camilla de Wall and Tyler Rodgers, I thought that was
- 5:36Speaker 2: the right thing to do. As it turned out, the
- 5:38Speaker 2: bullpen just wasn't enough down the stretch. With Randy Rodriguez
- 5:41Speaker 2: getting hurt and they just missed out. So add you know,
- 5:45Speaker 2: sometimes your windows you've got these five guys, your windows
- 5:48Speaker 2: can be short. You got to strike even if the
- 5:52Speaker 2: Dodgers are in your division. So it's going to be
- 5:54Speaker 2: interesting to see this next four weeks or so. I
- 5:58Speaker 2: think they still have to do something more and in
- 6:01Speaker 2: part to get the fans excited again. Their attendance was
- 6:05Speaker 2: way up last year. Take advantage of that great.
- 6:09Speaker 4: So why don't they just follow what the Dodgers doing,
- 6:11Speaker 4: do high av short term deals.
- 6:13Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 6:13Speaker 4: It seems like a win to me. Give opt outs
- 6:15Speaker 4: like they do a Chapman and man, it's weird he
- 6:17Speaker 4: end up staying.
- 6:18Speaker 5: I don't know, but.
- 6:19Speaker 2: That's a nice deal with Snell two years ago.
- 6:22Speaker 4: You know, just just a thought if you had, if
- 6:25Speaker 4: you had to pick one thing that they need, would
- 6:27Speaker 4: it be an outfielder, Would it be a starting pitcher,
- 6:29Speaker 4: would it be a second baseman? If Buster Posey has
- 6:32Speaker 4: one bullet in his gun and he goes to ownership says,
- 6:35Speaker 4: I want to shoot this one bullet, which one would
- 6:37Speaker 4: help them the most?
- 6:40Speaker 2: For me outfield? Just because their outfield play was so
- 6:43Speaker 2: bad and that outfield is enormous, and you could fix
- 6:46Speaker 2: the offense at the same time. That's like a two
- 6:48Speaker 2: for if you get a really competent all around outfielder,
- 6:53Speaker 2: you could maybe if it's a center fielder fingers crossed,
- 6:56Speaker 2: you can move Jung who Lee over and I think
- 6:59Speaker 2: he'd be actually play really well in right. He's got
- 7:02Speaker 2: a decent arm. He's he just can't quite handle that.
- 7:07Speaker 2: That center field from what we saw on the metrics
- 7:09Speaker 2: support it. Sorry again, that's that's sugar That's Sugar Ray.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Everybody named after the boxer, not the band.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Nobody likes a bloated cell phone bill. It can consume you,
- 7:18Speaker 1: it can take over. It can be very annoying. So
- 7:22Speaker 1: I know that twenty twenty five ended Crafts and that's
- 7:25Speaker 1: when you have your end of your sales, but there
- 7:27Speaker 1: actually is still one sale that is running until the
- 7:29Speaker 1: end of the month.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Midmobile.
- 7:31Speaker 3: They still have their fifty percent off their unlimited premium
- 7:34Speaker 3: wireless offer that you got to go and get and
- 7:37Speaker 3: take advantage of.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It because it's not necessarily going to be around all
- 7:39Speaker 1: the time, and all plans come with high speed data
- 7:43Speaker 1: and unlimited talking text delivered on the nation's largest five
- 7:46Speaker 1: G network quit overspending on wireless with fifty percent off.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Unlimited premium wireless plans start at fifteen bucks a month
- 7:53Speaker 1: at mittmobile dot com slash territory. That's mintmobile dot com
- 7:56Speaker 1: slash Territory, Limited time offer upfront payment of forty five
- 7:59Speaker 1: dollars for three months, ninety dollars for six months, or
- 8:01Speaker 1: one hundred eighty dollars for twelve months. Plan required fifteen
- 8:04Speaker 1: dollars per month equivalent taxes and fees extra initial plan
- 8:07Speaker 1: term only over fifty gigabytes may slow a network is busy.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Capable device required, availability, speed and coverage varies cemimobile dot com.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Nice you were talking about the outfield defense and you
- 8:20Speaker 3: just brought up Jung Hu Lee. Wasn't he brought in
- 8:23Speaker 3: to be an elite defender?
- 8:25Speaker 1: Was he?
- 8:25Speaker 3: Isn't he being paid one hundred million dollars? Did that
- 8:28Speaker 3: shoulder injury that he sustained slamming into the wall or
- 8:31Speaker 3: jumping over the wall, like, did that hurt his elite
- 8:34Speaker 3: defense or was that a poor misread when they signed him?
- 8:41Speaker 2: I think there are a lot of things going on,
- 8:42Speaker 2: you know, running into the wall certainly didn't help but
- 8:45Speaker 2: after he came back from that shoulder surgery, he went
- 8:49Speaker 2: he plowed straight into the wall again right really early
- 8:51Speaker 2: on in the season. So I don't think there's necessarily fear.
- 8:55Speaker 2: He is a little tentative when it comes to being
- 8:59Speaker 2: the guy in sharp arch in center, which is you know,
- 9:02Speaker 2: not ideal in centerfield. That a lot of miscommunication, but
- 9:07Speaker 2: he also had a lot of different guys he was
- 9:09Speaker 2: playing with, particularly and right, the numbers at Oracle do
- 9:14Speaker 2: skew defensive metrics. There's no doubt about that. If we
- 9:19Speaker 2: isolated road defense, it's a little bit better. I think
- 9:25Speaker 2: he is a competent outfielder. I just think he might
- 9:28Speaker 2: play a little bit better and right if you get
- 9:30Speaker 2: a real, real top notch center fielder, and then you know,
- 9:34Speaker 2: you start to look like you have an okay defense.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Elliott Ramos took a step backward in left. He has
- 9:40Speaker 2: said that he had got some stuff kind of in
- 9:44Speaker 2: his head, maybe focused, you know, a little bit too
- 9:47Speaker 2: much on some wrong things, and he feels like he
- 9:50Speaker 2: will be better if that outfield is better. You know,
- 9:53Speaker 2: maybe there's your two wins right there, or.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Is it in the prospects the great prospects that's what
- 10:00Speaker 3: built That's what built the Giants team, and then they
- 10:03Speaker 3: supplemented it in ten, twelve, fourteen, sixteen, whenever Crawford and
- 10:08Speaker 3: Posey retired and Brandon Bell was already out of the game.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Isn't that how the Giants push themselves over? Are these
- 10:15Speaker 3: prospects ready? Is Bryce Eldrick going to be the guy
- 10:20Speaker 3: or are the Giants afraid to let him be the guy?
- 10:24Speaker 2: Well, you know, I think the pitching might be a
- 10:26Speaker 2: little bit more of a sure thing. Guys. I think
- 10:28Speaker 2: bird Song will figure things out. I think wizen Hunt
- 10:31Speaker 2: is pretty close to being very much big league ready.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Bryce Eldridge is a you know, I think he will
- 10:40Speaker 2: flourish as a hitter. He doesn't really have a position.
- 10:43Speaker 2: He's learning first base. He's very driven. He said the
- 10:46Speaker 2: other day at their first fan fest that he wants
- 10:48Speaker 2: to be a Gold Glove winner. Great, he'll be working
- 10:52Speaker 2: with Ron Washington. He will definitely improve. But Rafael Devers
- 10:55Speaker 2: will be the first baseman the bulk of the time.
- 10:58Speaker 2: So you're talking about a twenty one year old. I
- 11:01Speaker 2: think he's very valuable as a trade ship. I don't
- 11:04Speaker 2: think anyone wants to see him moved but if the
- 11:08Speaker 2: Giants could get a big piece, especially somebody that has
- 11:12Speaker 2: some service time that's controllable, I think that they would
- 11:16Speaker 2: consider moving Bryce Eldridge. He might be most valuable, but
- 11:20Speaker 2: like that, but you know, it's also would be very,
- 11:23Speaker 2: very painful to lose a guy who's got forty plus
- 11:26Speaker 2: potentially home run power. So I don't know. I don't
- 11:30Speaker 2: know where I stand with that. I think he is
- 11:32Speaker 2: big League ready from the offensive standpoint, and he was
- 11:36Speaker 2: playing last year with a bad wrist. He had a
- 11:38Speaker 2: bone spur, had surgery, set, everything's going great. He's ready
- 11:42Speaker 2: to go essentially full go for spring, so I think
- 11:46Speaker 2: he will be nothing but better this year.
- 11:50Speaker 4: I want to know about Patrick Bailey, Susan. I think
- 11:52Speaker 4: one time you said he reminded you of me, but
- 11:55Speaker 4: clearly not because I could hit and he couldn't catch,
- 11:59Speaker 4: couldn't care. He can catch and can't hint. So is
- 12:02Speaker 4: there improvement? Is there a next step? Because he is
- 12:04Speaker 4: so good defensively, can they just get something out of
- 12:07Speaker 4: him offensively? And I know he was better in the
- 12:09Speaker 4: second half, but is there more in the tank offensively?
- 12:13Speaker 4: Because I think this guy has defensively has the ability
- 12:15Speaker 4: to be a star. But can they figure out a
- 12:17Speaker 4: way to get some offense at him.
- 12:19Speaker 2: First of all, I want to see the tape of
- 12:21Speaker 2: me comparing it to you.
- 12:23Speaker 4: You said it one time that he reminds you of me,
- 12:26Speaker 4: and I was like that, poor guy.
- 12:28Speaker 2: He's a very good talker. Maybe that was it.
- 12:31Speaker 5: That was it perfect, you know what.
- 12:35Speaker 2: He was much better in the second half. Actually he
- 12:37Speaker 2: figured some things out. I would like to see how
- 12:41Speaker 2: he does. And that was really the knock on him
- 12:43Speaker 2: his first two years. He really wore down in the
- 12:46Speaker 2: second half, and some injuries contributed the year before last
- 12:49Speaker 2: for sure, but he got nothing but better throughout last year.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Great sign. I think when he put some of the
- 12:57Speaker 2: things that he realized about his swing together.
- 13:00Speaker 3: It's tough.
- 13:01Speaker 2: You know, he's a switch hitter. It's tough to keep
- 13:03Speaker 2: both those swings going and run a pitching staff, for sure.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I've asked a few times, has anybody ever considered, you know,
- 13:12Speaker 2: having him just hit righty or just hit lefty, you know,
- 13:15Speaker 2: if whichever way is more comfortable, and nobody's considered that.
- 13:20Speaker 2: I don't think that that's an option. And I think
- 13:23Speaker 2: the fact that he really has picked up the pace
- 13:26Speaker 2: on both sides. I think pretty happy with them. And
- 13:30Speaker 2: you know what, he's so elite defensively even you know,
- 13:33Speaker 2: there's an argument that the ABS system will take away
- 13:38Speaker 2: some of the pitch framing value. He's such a good
- 13:41Speaker 2: He's still going to be a gold glove catcher no
- 13:43Speaker 2: matter what they do with any sort of replay. So
- 13:47Speaker 2: I think they would be fine, just fine. If he
- 13:49Speaker 2: hits two forty and you know, twelve to fifteen homers
- 13:52Speaker 2: or something like that, I think there's more power in there.
- 13:56Speaker 2: But even they've even just take two forty, you know what,
- 13:58Speaker 2: He's also a clutch guy. He is one of the
- 14:01Speaker 2: hitters that I think the Giants are really happy about.
- 14:03Speaker 2: If he's up with a runner on third and he's
- 14:06Speaker 2: very you, he will get you a sack fly he'll
- 14:09Speaker 2: hit the ball on the ground the other way. So
- 14:12Speaker 2: I like Patrick Bailey. I think he's underrated as an
- 14:16Speaker 2: overall player.
- 14:18Speaker 5: Susan big picture question for you.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I am old enough to remember when Dodger fans were
- 14:24Speaker 1: really jealous and envious of Giants fans. We have the
- 14:29Speaker 1: ultimate oneint eighty in place right now, but let's not
- 14:32Speaker 1: forget the dynasty the Giants had winning every other year.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Three titles this century really really successful, right that was
- 14:40Speaker 1: probably the most successful run of the century up until
- 14:43Speaker 1: this point. My simple question for you is what is
- 14:46Speaker 1: the perception of the Dodgers right now by Giants fans.
- 14:50Speaker 1: I'm just going off my little sample size of fans
- 14:53Speaker 1: that text me, Oh, it's not fair, blah blah blah,
- 14:56Speaker 1: and then I text them back Frank McCourt and then
- 14:58Speaker 1: they usually stop because I'm like, all you have to
- 15:00Speaker 1: do is go back a little bit to a time
- 15:03Speaker 1: when they were dominating, they were much more well run,
- 15:06Speaker 1: and we're in a shift at the moment.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Absolutely, you know, it's funny I get I get the
- 15:10Speaker 2: same sort of responsor fans, and then Dodger fans always
- 15:13Speaker 2: hop on and go, y'all are obsessed with us, like
- 15:15Speaker 2: we're in your heads. It's just funny. You know, baseball
- 15:20Speaker 2: everything winds up being say lical and this Dodgers. Yeah,
- 15:23Speaker 2: you know, they look set for a very long time.
- 15:26Speaker 2: But Giant fans got a little bit spoiled there, and
- 15:31Speaker 2: I think there's some residue from that, and they expect
- 15:34Speaker 2: everything right now, and sometimes you do have to be
- 15:38Speaker 2: a little patient. But I'm a little bit with them,
- 15:41Speaker 2: because I do see that there's a core here that
- 15:44Speaker 2: could be very good and that could be a at
- 15:48Speaker 2: least a playoff regular, you know, with a little bit
- 15:52Speaker 2: more helps. So you know, I feel for the Giant Sands,
- 15:56Speaker 2: but at the point the same time, they've been awfully
- 15:59Speaker 2: spoiled for a pretty long time.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Susan, can we go to your Hall of Fame bout
- 16:04Speaker 3: because I love that you put it out there. So
- 16:06Speaker 3: many people don't put it out there, so good for
- 16:08Speaker 3: you for putting it out there, because the biggest question
- 16:12Speaker 3: will be from me your Manny Ramirez and Alex Rodriguez
- 16:17Speaker 3: inclusion on your ballot. Where what is that thought process
- 16:22Speaker 3: for you when you went okay, I'm going to fill
- 16:25Speaker 3: that in.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Well, I used to not vote for any of the
- 16:30Speaker 2: steroids guys or sort of when, especially when when Bonds
- 16:34Speaker 2: and Clements first hit. You know, I didn't vote for
- 16:37Speaker 2: them for the first few years, and then you see
- 16:40Speaker 2: guys who have been connected with possible pet's use go in.
- 16:46Speaker 2: And then for me it was when LaRussa cox Sea
- 16:51Speaker 2: leg there was one off season they all went in
- 16:52Speaker 2: and I thought, well, the architects of the steroid era
- 16:56Speaker 2: such as it was are all going in and these
- 16:59Speaker 2: are all people who, you know, kind of look the
- 17:02Speaker 2: other way. People knew what was going on, could have
- 17:05Speaker 2: maybe done more to institute drug testing earlier. And you know,
- 17:12Speaker 2: I could go through the whole list of you know,
- 17:14Speaker 2: well there's guys who are racists and you know, dolls
- 17:18Speaker 2: or wife beaters and all sorts of things. In the
- 17:19Speaker 2: Hall of Fame. It is, there are so many spots
- 17:23Speaker 2: on the ballot that actually say consider character, Consider character,
- 17:27Speaker 2: and I do think that's important. Absolutely, steroid use was
- 17:32Speaker 2: cheating one hundred percent. I don't think people disagree with that.
- 17:35Speaker 2: But there are plenty of steroid users who are in
- 17:39Speaker 2: there now. We're seeing more all the time. I feel
- 17:42Speaker 2: like it's unfair to hold it just to Bonds and
- 17:45Speaker 2: Clements and yes, Manny and a Rod failed actual tests,
- 17:50Speaker 2: but I've sort of just gone with.
- 17:53Speaker 5: This.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Hall needs to be represented by the best players of
- 17:57Speaker 2: the era, and I will tell you especially the I mean,
- 18:00Speaker 2: Annie Ramires is maybe the greatest right handed hitter I've
- 18:03Speaker 2: ever seen. A Rod obviously dominated the game for a while.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I mean, these are leaving these two guys out and
- 18:11Speaker 2: Bonds and Clemmens. This it's not a representative Hall of Fame.
- 18:14Speaker 2: It's just not for me. And I understand the flip side.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I get it. I have no problem with people who
- 18:22Speaker 2: feel opposite. But at this point, you know, Beltron looks
- 18:25Speaker 2: like he's going to go in, and he was there
- 18:28Speaker 2: for the little Astros things. So you know, cheating's cheating,
- 18:32Speaker 2: and we seem to be fine with some of it,
- 18:34Speaker 2: but not all of it.
- 18:35Speaker 4: Are you the morality police now, Susan? What changed about you?
- 18:38Speaker 4: I don't remember you being like this.
- 18:40Speaker 2: I'm the opposite.
- 18:42Speaker 5: I know, I'm just kidding. Listen, listen.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Yeah, you didn't vote for me, and I didn't do steroids, Susan,
- 18:49Speaker 4: So I'm disappointed, but.
- 18:52Speaker 5: Fair, Yes, exactly.
- 18:54Speaker 4: But but I asked, I asked Ken the same question.
- 18:57Speaker 4: You know, Andy Pettitt admitted to doing pds. Everyone now
- 19:01Speaker 4: was voting for him. Manny and a Rod are not
- 19:04Speaker 4: on a lot of ballots. And for me as a
- 19:06Speaker 4: former player that played through US and I played with
- 19:08Speaker 4: Barry Bonds, I played against Manny, I played against Air.
- 19:11Speaker 4: I played against all these guys on this ballot, right,
- 19:13Speaker 4: some that are in the Hall of Fame that have
- 19:15Speaker 4: been rumored to have done things, and some that you know,
- 19:18Speaker 4: are rumored to do things that was never proven that
- 19:21Speaker 4: aren't in the Hall of Fame.
- 19:23Speaker 5: Okay, But for me, the line is two thousand and five.
- 19:25Speaker 4: If you did them and you got suspended, you knew
- 19:27Speaker 4: what you were doing, you were cheating, you're out. If
- 19:29Speaker 4: anything before that, I can't say what you did because
- 19:33Speaker 4: I don't know, Okay, I don't know what everyone did.
- 19:36Speaker 4: I don't know who did this or did that or whatever.
- 19:38Speaker 4: That's not my place to do this to anybody, not
- 19:40Speaker 4: judge anyone. But if you did it and you got caught,
- 19:43Speaker 4: you're out.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's that's certainly a fair take. I
- 19:49Speaker 2: don't think any of I don't think anybody's takes on
- 19:51Speaker 2: this is really unreasonable. I see it. I have just
- 19:55Speaker 2: decided at some point in general, we all seem okay
- 19:59Speaker 2: with some forms of cheating in the Hall of Fame.
- 20:02Speaker 2: These were great players regard I you know, even this
- 20:06Speaker 2: argument I don't love. I saw Tom Verducci shoot this
- 20:10Speaker 2: one down really well once, which was like, if so
- 20:13Speaker 2: and so was a Hall of Famer before they started
- 20:15Speaker 2: doing steroids, they should be in the Hall of Fame,
- 20:17Speaker 2: and he was. At that point, Peter was still playing
- 20:19Speaker 2: but forward the end of his career, and Verducci said, well,
- 20:23Speaker 2: does that make it okay for Jeter just start doing
- 20:25Speaker 2: steroids now? It doesn't like it's either okay or it's
- 20:30Speaker 2: not okay. I don't think it's really okay. But I
- 20:34Speaker 2: think the Hall needs to represent the eras. That's where
- 20:37Speaker 2: I've come down.
- 20:38Speaker 5: Okay, so they should have a steroid era.
- 20:40Speaker 4: But are you okay with like Phil nicro who maybe
- 20:44Speaker 4: did put Gaylor Perry who, by the way, you're welcome
- 20:47Speaker 4: Gaylor for wearing your number last and getting it retired
- 20:49Speaker 4: in San Francisco? But are you okay with them because
- 20:51Speaker 4: they were accused of maybe putting some stuff on the
- 20:55Speaker 4: ball every once in a while to make it move funky?
- 20:57Speaker 5: Is that cheating? Right?
- 20:58Speaker 4: You mentioned Beltrom people, we'll call him a cheater because
- 21:01Speaker 4: of the trash can thing. At some point out two
- 21:03Speaker 4: Bay is probably going to go in the Hall of Fame.
- 21:05Speaker 4: He's going to be brought up as part of this.
- 21:06Speaker 4: So it's like, what do we do here? Because yeah,
- 21:10Speaker 4: I mean, it's a weird it's a weird thing. Hall
- 21:12Speaker 4: of Fame is Hall of Fame is a tough decision.
- 21:15Speaker 4: I wish I had a vote, and then I could
- 21:17Speaker 4: vote the way I wanted, and then I could everyone
- 21:18Speaker 4: could tell me how wrong I was.
- 21:20Speaker 5: So we're here to tell you how wrong you are
- 21:21Speaker 5: on certain things. Susan.
- 21:22Speaker 2: It's okay, that's totally fair that I mean, I really
- 21:25Speaker 2: this is one where I don't think that there there's
- 21:27Speaker 2: no easy answer. There just isn't. There are strong arguments
- 21:31Speaker 2: to be made everywhere, but this whole era is starting
- 21:36Speaker 2: to become very underrepresented in the Hall in general, and
- 21:40Speaker 2: two of the greatest players are not in and looked
- 21:43Speaker 2: like they might never be in with plaques. You know
- 21:47Speaker 2: there there is like you know there is. There's Barry
- 21:50Speaker 2: Bond's memorabilia in the Hall of Fame. There is Roger
- 21:53Speaker 2: Clemens memorabilia in the Hall of Fame. But these were
- 21:56Speaker 2: two of the greats. They should be in.
- 22:00Speaker 1: The whole process is tainted, but it's fun to talk about,
- 22:02Speaker 1: and we don't cover it a ton in general. But
- 22:05Speaker 1: this week, of course, is the time to do it.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Is we get the announcement coming up later today, Susan.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Awesome to catch up with you. We always appreciate it.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Tell Sugar Ray, we say hello, and the time is
- 22:15Speaker 1: now Sugar Ray is again.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, absolutely I should have stuck them in a room.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I didn't realize
