- 1:20[SPEAKER_04]: And I want to let everybody know we've got a website now, the sports cards CEO.com.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_04]: Current, you did a good job putting that thing together with guests and inventory.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_04]: Some updates and we're going to touch on that on your end as well.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_04]: And I also just want to make sure that it's a connection point for folks, where they can see what's going on, stay connected.

- 1:46[SPEAKER_04]: We got to hear from you guys.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_04]: We'd love to hear from you guys.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_04]: So call in, leave a voice mail, we're trying to answer those live on the show.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_04]: Love to hear what you guys are into and the feedback and I want to kind of give a little brief testimony before we jump into our roundtable.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_04]: So this week we were at our local card shop.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_04]: It's port city collectibles.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_04]: James and long shout out to he and his team.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_04]: Great dude.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_04]: Very, very involved in the hobby.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_04]: Great local card shop here.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_04]: He does awesome trade nights.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_04]: We were at a trade night, and honestly, man, it's kind of tired of sitting the corner, just kind of like phasing out, and a guy come up to me and he's like, hey, man, you know, I just wanted to say, like, I've just got back in the hobby, and, you know, I'm at your son's school, like he's a teacher at my son's school, and he's like, I've really enjoyed getting connected with the hobby, and your son's been a huge help, and the podcast.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, oh, cool, you've been listening, man.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_04]: He's like, yeah, I've been listening.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_04]: I think I've listened every episode.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_04]: And I said, what do you think about the mic trout episode?
- 2:33[SPEAKER_04]: He's like, mic trout.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, you're missing season one.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_04]: I said, you might've been listening season two since the first of the year, but go back and take a peek because we've done a ton of stuff.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_04]: And so, that's kind of why we do this, Kerm, is just to help people.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_04]: have a connection point in the hobby, learn a few things, and just encourage, man.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_04]: So anyway, for those of you who are loyal listeners, we appreciate you guys.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_04]: As you may notice, Bubba is not with us today.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_04]: Current, I think he's taking a little bit of a post-travel baseball break.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's taking a dip in the lake.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think that Bubba goes in the lake with a shirt off or on?
- 3:11[SPEAKER_04]: But was this shirt off kind of guy?
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: Is it anything so?
- 3:14[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I feel confident.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I feel confident.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, that's not something that I think about, but I mean, I know you well enough to know that probably crossed your mind.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_04]: So it's a me question.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_04]: That's the current question.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_04]: We'll give you the, yeah, we'll give you the piece of mine.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_04]: I think I think the Bubba is really enjoying his shirt off moment.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_04]: in the the lakes of South Carolina.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_04]: So we wish him well and some good recovery time from the the busy travel baseball season.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_04]: But we want to do our little weekly, you know, CEO update here.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_04]: I'll lead off current.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_04]: You get to go second.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_04]: You've got some stuff to update everybody on.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, it's it's funny.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_04]: I've been re intrigued with the Matrix movies as of late.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_04]: You know, those were really popular when I was in college.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_04]: And I enjoyed them back then.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_04]: And I haven't really thought about it much, but like right now my life feels like the matrix.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_04]: Like it feels like I'm living in this like alternative reality of like the busyness the day to day, the hamster wheel, the stream.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm trying to kind of,
- 4:08[SPEAKER_04]: You know, make sure that I don't lose myself in the middle of just the busyness, you know, I'm saying, yeah, it's hard, it's hard not to do.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, you know, when we started early Oak insurance group two years ago, it was an endeavor to get it off the ground.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, any time you're starting something new, it takes time, it takes energy, it takes resources.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_04]: takes a motion and we had gotten the plane up, you know, over the last two years and now it's kind of like, okay, now that the planes off the ground, we're going to like throttle up the plane and get to, you know, cruising altitude and we've hired two new producers and man, nothing slow down because I'm still having all of my personal clients personal production.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_04]: So I've just been.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_04]: They're overwhelmed with the demand or my time not to mention the sports card stuff that we're still doing and then, you know, five kids and all the things so I mentioned on last week's episode I feel like I'm a repeat record a broken record here just you know, I'm tired but that's just where I am and it kind of leads me into a topic we're going to talk about later for me personally, but on the card front, you know, we really liquidated the majority of our CrossFit boards heading into the season that was our game plan.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_04]: And right now, we're really not holding anything.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_04]: I think we have a handful, maybe five or six cards total.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_04]: And really just trying to navigate.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_04]: Have really been buying a lot.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_04]: Have not been buying into the 26 Bowman release, which we'll talk about as well.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_04]: You know, the boys and I got to a couple of break, which is always fun for us, but I try to limit that just because it is not a great ROI.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_04]: No, no.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's terrible.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, it's so every time I do it, I'm like, oh, this is fun for the 20 seconds that you rip the pack until you realize you didn't get anything.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_04]: And even when you do the prices fluctuate so much.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_04]: So that's been a little bit of a different pulse and and little Matt actually did has been diving deep on some value stuff with basketball.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_04]: You've got a lot of hype right now with the playoffs.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_04]: course, windy, you know, last night dropped 41, 24 boards and is looking like an alien out there doing his stuff.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_04]: So that's actually putting a lot of attention on the basketball market and little math's been doing some deep dives in the certain parallels, looking at population, looking at, you know, kind of
- 6:16[SPEAKER_04]: Jim Rates and stuff like that.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_04]: So he's kind of working hard man to do a deep dive.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_04]: Instead of just the same old routine, you know, buying a, buying a card and grading whatever.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_04]: So it's been, it's been a, it's been a different season for us in the, in the card thing, but it's been good.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_04]: And honestly, man, I'm actually looking for something to collect right now.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I'll talk about this more in a little bit.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_04]: So I'd love to hear from our listeners, like looking for something to collect.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_04]: Like, you know, I've kind of done my cow rib kind of thing.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_04]: I've gone after most of the stuff there that I want.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm looking at kind of the next thing, like, is there another player?
- 6:48[SPEAKER_04]: Is there another set?
- 6:49[SPEAKER_04]: Is there another, you know, item or whatever?
- 6:52[SPEAKER_04]: And kind of looking for that next thing to rejuvenate my passion in the space.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_04]: So that's kind of where we're, where I've been this last week.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: Nice.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I've never seen the Matrix, so I can't relate, but I can imagine.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_04]: You've never seen it.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: I've never seen the Matrix.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_04]: Did it in the city?
- 7:08[SPEAKER_04]: Like, that's actually very fitting.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I feel like the city is the Matrix on like, full throttle.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 7:15[SPEAKER_04]: Like, every day you wake up, it's horns, blaring, it's pigeons, flying, it's just nonstop, just repeat that.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: It is, it is, no, and I've probably should watch it.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I actually, I'm looking forward to diving into more of what you were just talking about.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: On my end, you know, I've been, I've been watching this 26th moment release, I guess we can get into this thoughts shortly here, but I did want to talk about, um,
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: As some of you know, I built an app for the iPhone that launched on Saturday, and it was something that I avoid that was missing in my life and following, you know, following prospects and major leagueers.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: I had always felt like I spent an enormous amount of time at night in the morning looking at box scores, and specifically on.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: MLB app, right?
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like you have to search, you have to search by either organization or level, figure out where you're like all the guys that I have cards of that I want to follow, I'd have to scroll through box scores and look and if see if they're in the lineup and look and see how they're doing like figure out which level they're at, what that team name is called if you're not familiar, right?
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like there's just so much back and forth, back and forth,
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: I want that to have a place where you can just have a follow list of the guys that you want to follow that you either have cards over that you like.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: So I came up with this app that and look, it might not be original.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know other ones out there that do this, but it allows you to.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: make a favorites list and you can make up to three different favorites lists if you want.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: But you could it has every it has in the index it has every MLB and minor league baseball player that place in the system and you can favorite that player and you can follow them and it'll give you
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: in-game live information.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: So if George Lombard is playing in a game and it'll say top second what the score is and it'll say if he's one for two with a home run three walks right and it'll also show you the season statistics that update from those live
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: live stats.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: And if you click on the players profile, you could see some more advanced metrics WRC plus ISO, walk break, a rate.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: It also can link to Bowman cards on sale for on eBay, golden fanatics, specifically their Bowman first.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: But and it also has some other cool tools where it's got MLB and it'll be pipeline and baseball America top 100 there.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: You could
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: and they'll be pipeline site to get do it all in there.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: You can compare two players side by side against each other for the season.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: There's leaderboards where you could sort by major league or minor league by organization or by just minor league as in general.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: You could sort by average.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: K-Ray, URC+, and you can look and see who the leaders are with minimum, you could choose 25, if that's 50, if that's 100 bats, there's also, I created just recently an activity list, so similar to the old Instagram style, right?
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: So look on your favorites, you could scroll or choose from the dropdown, your player that you want to see in game live, but
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: The activity tab, excuse me, the activity tab, will show you that night as it happens like Mike Trout Walk, Jr. Kamenera Home Run in real time, so you could just scroll like the old activity tab.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: So I made this thing, and for me, it's pretty awesome.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like I did it because I needed it, and I had assumed a lot of other people needed it.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I don't know, Matt, have you tried it?
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: Or no, are you supporting me?
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't see me.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_04]: He said, hey, check the link out and I was like, all right, cool, send it to me and then you're like, hey, I launched this thing and I'm like, okay, cool, we're going to send the link.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so if you want to look it up, I mean, I'll send you a link.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_04]: I'm busy.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I'm not, I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's not really a you thing anyway, but like I'll send it to you and I'll send you a little promo code so you don't have to pay five bucks.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, I got, I got the five.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I can hand it.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: I know you're good for it, but you know what, actually pay the five, please.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: But I will say, so like when I announced this thing, I got a lot of, I got like a, there was like a group of people that just came after me, came after me.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, what is going on?
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: And it turns out that there's a site, a paywall webpage, not an app that is called Prospect Pulse V2.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: I was not aware of this until I launched this thing and people came at me.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: Now, mine is called, mine was called Currence Prospect Pulse.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: I did not see, I looked up, there was no trademark for Prospect Pulse.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't, I wasn't aware of this.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: I filed for the trademark prior to launch for Prospect Pulse.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: There wasn't one out there, okay?
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, in hindsight, I should have just googled and see, and see if there was one there, but there wasn't.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: And there was no trademark.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I was going by, right?
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: And these people, these grown men with children are just attacking me
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, call me a dweeb, call me every name under the sun, as if I just copied what this person was doing, which I had no idea about.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, I had no idea about your website.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: And the functionality of it, yeah, there's some similarities in it.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's hobby-related, right?
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: But there's
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: One is a good buy when it's a good sell, that kind of thing.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's totally different functionality, but because the name was similar, I was getting grown men hate.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I look, I have filed for the trademark.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: I decided to change the name.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: The name doesn't mean anything to me.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: It's called the Prospect Club now.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: So go to the App Store, the Prospect Club, download the app.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's 499.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: One time charge right now, do it while you can because that will change as we add more tools to it.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: But it's pretty cool, man.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty cool.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_04]: What is a Dweeb, actually?
- 13:10[SPEAKER_04]: Do you know it's me it's me you are you on the way looking up in the dictionary.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: It'll be Eric Manl It's a picture of me apparently and somebody somebody even like was like somebody even on on X was like is that the dude That dude is the worst isn't he the dude on the the CEO podcast where people where they talk about their small businesses like what a loser
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, buddy.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_04]: You know, that's us.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_04]: That's me.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_04]: You know, Karen.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_04]: You have a proclivity.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_04]: You have a proclivity.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_04]: We're just a magnet for some drama.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_04]: You know, the me back here.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_04]: We had our, our, our, our hater.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_04]: One of the go after your, your legacy, your family lineage.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_04]: Good Lord.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, my God.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_04]: It is.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_04]: It's always dramatic.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you know, congrats on the launch.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_04]: You're, you're passionate about something you've been wanting to do.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_04]: Like you said, it's not a me thing.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I don't have the same.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_04]: I actually have three in-house researchers that every morning when I wake up, they look at box scores for me.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_04]: So I've got my sources.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_04]: I think big little mat would like this.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think he would.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_04]: And I definitely want to encourage everybody to go check it out.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_04]: The prospect club on the app store.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, correct.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: Cool.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I want to be on Android.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, keep us, uh, keep us posted on the, uh, the updates there.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_04]: So that kind of leads us into this Bowman release man.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, you say you're now watching it.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_04]: I want to give my, my two cents here, please.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_04]: And, and, you know, uh, I'll be honest, like, you always have these Bowman releases and you get kind of jazzed up for them.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_04]: And then they happen.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_04]: And then all of a sudden it's like,
- 14:41[SPEAKER_04]: The Christmas afternoon, it's like the packages have been opened and there's all this crap on the floor and you're like, okay Christmas is over like it is happened and now I'm here to clean up the mess and the stuff that I got that I don't want I'm now got to take it back to the store and now we're looking at winter
- 15:03[SPEAKER_04]: until Groundhog Day when Punks of Tony Phil tells us if it's going to be six more weeks.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_04]: And so I'll be honest, man, I have this vibe right now of massive amounts of fatigue.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_04]: And it's card fatigue, it's prospect fatigue, it's life fatigue, it's all the things, right?
- 15:20[SPEAKER_04]: But it's specifically to like prospects, okay?
- 15:23[SPEAKER_04]: Like I was actually texting people this week and I was going, is this even real?
- 15:28[SPEAKER_04]: Like what it actually drives the value of cards?
- 15:31[SPEAKER_04]: Like, is the card actually have value, or is it all just fluff?
- 15:37[SPEAKER_04]: Is it all hyped up, you know, fluff, supplied the man, all this kind of nonsense?
- 15:42[SPEAKER_04]: Cause you've got this new product coming down, right?
- 15:45[SPEAKER_04]: And you're like, people are paying crazy money for Florentino or for our cat or whoever it is.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_04]: And then you're looking at like Ethan Conrad, who was a first rounder for the Cubs in draft, whose hurt, who's not playing,
- 16:01[SPEAKER_04]: 60% you know what I mean just because he got injured and I'm like, yeah, this is exhausting to have to keep up and it's like more names to add to the list and so I'm struggling right now with really getting into the release and I was just curious what your thoughts are on it.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I do hear you on that.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: I do.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: I've been through that.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: Many, many times and honestly it tends to happen.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: like right after these newer leases to me, you know, because you see like the draft guys start to get to slowly fade from a popularity standpoint, then these new guys come up and you're like, oh my god, when is it gonna, it's just like the cycle of cycle.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: of hype, you know what I mean?
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: And it really makes you question, you know, the true value of something based on like actual productivity versus perceived value of like what are people willing to like where do they see the future?
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: Now from a catch those standpoint like do they believe
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like the revenue is going to exist in the future for that, you know, like, and that determines what these people are willing to pay versus actual productivity, that's the difference, you know, and there's a fine line and I think, look, I do think people are getting smarter, but like there's still at product release, there's still that perceived value, you know, it's all perceived value, it's not true value because a lot of these guys, they might be performing, right, like,
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: There's so there is some true value there.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: But it's all perceived value.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: These guys are 18, 19 years old, right?
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's perceived value.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's how much money of these guys going could they make me in the future?
- 17:34[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you know, this is where I struggle, right?
- 17:37[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm going to use an actual card comp to kind of like make my point.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_04]: And this is one of those things where I told a little Matt this other day, right?
- 17:43[SPEAKER_04]: So take it on the podcast and in the hobby, we talk about these rare,
- 17:49[SPEAKER_04]: You know, number to five, number to 25, you know, these kind of inserts.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_04]: You take, you take a guy like Drake Baldwin.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_04]: So Drake Baldwin in case anyone doesn't remember was rookie of the year last year.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_04]: I'm correct and saying that's what I thought.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_04]: Who is having a stellar.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_04]: year this year, right, performing well, really solid kind of like arguably in the top slot as one of the best catchers in the game, you know, cross the bridge.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_04]: The braves are winning, right?
- 18:19[SPEAKER_04]: All the things and you just had a red, a true red Drake Baldwin cell.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: Did you know what it did first Bowman, first Bowman red, I believe.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't choose.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I don't know.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: Do what you like me to guess?
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: Take a guess.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: Take a guess.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to guess $6,500.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_04]: So as a PSA non auto 10, Drake ball when true first red did close and that's my thing.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_04]: It's like so when you've got, you know, a Murakami or a Florentino or whoever it is, like, we hit somebody, offer us a Murakami orange at 20 K. Yeah, they same thing.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm like, I'm like,
- 18:57[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, Drake Baldwin, an active performing guy is reds doing 5500.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_04]: It's just trying to rat my brain around the actual value of these cards and what that perceived thing is is so tough for me.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_00]: I hear you.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_04]: When I see these discrepancies, I just get frustrated.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_04]: And I, and I don't care.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm, the murk, the murk comedy thing is that's to me, it's a one-off like because I think we all know where the perceived value comes from and murk comedy and it comes from old Tony, you know, for sure.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he doesn't have a bone first.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: This is a rookie card just like Otani had a bone and rookie card and look what those cards are at.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: So that is, he's having success.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like there's true value in him, right?
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: Cause like you see the success.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: But then you compare it to, look, this is the hobby that we always talk about, right?
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like it doesn't make any sense.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm not paying $20,000 for in orange, right, for Murkami, but somebody is who's thinking of the perceived value as it could be a $300 card, you know what I mean?
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like, because they see Otani in that.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: So that's like a one off situation in my
- 20:06[SPEAKER_04]: And I think my point there was like I get it.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_04]: The McCarthy has actual value based on performance.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_04]: But when you look at Drake Baldwin's red doing 5K and Murray County's orange doing 20, like what does that mean Murray County's red would do?
- 20:21[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, a 200 K like you know, I'm saying it.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_04]: So then you get to a point of like, yeah, holy cow dude.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_04]: Like, is the scale really that big.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, look, my guess is that like the orange probably goes for it realistically probably sold for 13 K and that red sells for 25 to 30, right?
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: But, um,
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's the point.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's perceived value based on if that perceived value is if the hobby Collectively agrees that that person is going to Actually perform right and if everybody collectively agrees the prices are going to shoot up right like but Drake bald when like again This is prospecting though.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's fun.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's I know Mara Comey's not a prospect.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's a rookie, right, but I think if everybody
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we know what Drake Baldwin is, right?
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: We know what he is.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: Any solid, but you know what his ceiling is in a sense.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, no, no, I mean, no, I, like I said, I get it.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_04]: And it's just interesting when you start to kind of look across.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_04]: And you get the other thing, too, is it's like you said something.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_04]: a minute ago that's really important.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_04]: I want to touch on this.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_04]: You said, if the hobby collectively agrees, right?
- 21:27[SPEAKER_04]: I would actually argue that point and say, you know what?
- 21:30[SPEAKER_04]: It's not even the hobby.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_04]: It's for people.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_04]: If you get four of the big hitters in the hobby space, mm-hmm.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_04]: to agree or commit to buying a guy that got taken off.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't matter what the rest of the hobby says because when the capital starts to flow into certain guys, now everybody has this perceived value that, oh, I've got to chase this.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: So if you're you're saying if you see a comp for a redmer comedy at 30k and an orange at 20, let's say, or 15, let's say, you're saying the perceived value
- 22:06[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, there's something out there that's moving that market there.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_04]: Somebody out there that's kind of pushing that value.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_04]: And again, I'm not pointing fingers here.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_04]: This is just an observation.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_04]: I happen to see a post that Jeff Wilson put out there and he basically said Victor Wimbin yama is going to be to basketball.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_04]: What show.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_04]: Hey, Otani was to baseball.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, and I'm here thinking to myself like, okay, and Jeff could completely just believe that to his core and that's fine.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_04]: It's his opinion, but I'm sitting here thinking like, okay, if Jeff Wilson's saying that and it probably stands to reason that he has a good bit of money and invested in women Yamma.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_04]: And then now you're going to see everybody kind of follow that trail because I saw a few other guys comment true truth true truth whatever and I told them that I said watch women y'all with market right now.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_04]: He had 40 points last night, but it's not about the 40 points.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_04]: It's about a couple of key guys talking about him.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_04]: And that's what the market's going to respond to for sure.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's the actual performance part of it.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: And he holds up to it, right?
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: Because like, look at, we're talking about like sports cards and culture and Dana White buying that red Roman Anthony, like, yeah, it could have a significant impact on his market, right?
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if he had like he is not performing this year, right?
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, so he's not performing.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_00]: So nobody's talking about it.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, nobody's talking about the value of his cards going up because he's
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: truly not performing at all, right?
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_00]: But if he were to be performing, forget it.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the significance of Dana White buying that car talking about a publicly with his influence, like, that you can see the, that rise.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like, significantly.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: But at the end of the day, like, these guys do have to perform in order for that to be sustainable.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, sure.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_04]: Sure.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_04]: It's just a combination of hype and market influence plus performance.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, again, and that's the other interesting piece, like you talk about performance, right?
- 24:07[SPEAKER_04]: And, I mean, look at Connor look at, you know,
- 24:17[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_04]: There's nothing off the charts.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_04]: There's nothing that's like earth shattering, like look at Kyle Schwabber.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_04]: Kyle Schwabber got to 20 home runs faster than any year in his career.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 24:28[SPEAKER_04]: And like you're like, okay, that's kind of earth shattering.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, he has a pretty established career with a lot of bombs and this year he's gotten there faster than any year.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_04]: I'd be interested to see what his card, you know, market is.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_04]: So it's, it's this really interesting dynamic of if you can catch the cross section of the height
- 24:46[SPEAKER_04]: But not just performers, performance that has that sauce to it.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's where you can win.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_04]: But for me, that's what's become so exhausting to try to keep up with.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Niagara, and you said something interesting there, a lot like it all takes us for people, right?
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I think you're referring to like sales in that marketplace, right?
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, that could transfer to, you know,
- 25:08[SPEAKER_00]: Let's say, let's call it public companies, too.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like a company trading at 40X reflects belief about, you know, like future dominance, you know, like not the present day economics.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's about future dominance.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: So all it takes is for some cards to trade at a really high level, you know, and people and especially people with, you know, influence and all of a sudden, it becomes about that and not, you know, today's economics.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: It becomes about future dominance.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: Well, at these people are seeing.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_04]: You talk about businesses and stuff and the interesting piece that I kind of tied into this when I was talking to my buddy day that I sent him a text message and I was like, you know, the cards actually have any value and what are you talking about I was like, do they actually have any value the value is solely based on, you know, supply demand collectible performance market whatever.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_04]: unlike a business where I can show you that my business produces revenue, right?
- 26:01[SPEAKER_04]: Like it has a tangible asset that it brings in, you know what I mean?
- 26:06[SPEAKER_04]: Whereas a card, it doesn't have any inherent value other than the perceived value of the beholder.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_04]: And so it's very different when you're looking at card investing versus like investing in businesses or something.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_04]: And so that's the part that's hard for me because I'm thinking right now of like,
- 26:22[SPEAKER_04]: trying to get beyond just buying and selling cards and making money buying and selling cards and going, okay, what's actually the best return on your money?
- 26:29[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 26:30[SPEAKER_04]: If you're true at true investor, what is it?
- 26:33[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 26:34[SPEAKER_04]: Because the market has its own speculation as well, and that's a dangerous game, and it was like, man, I'm really looking for a sure fire winner when it comes to actual value, and it's kind of hard, because you look at the world around you're like, man, all of this stuff,
- 26:47[SPEAKER_04]: is perceived value.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, enough is, you know what I mean?
- 26:50[SPEAKER_04]: It's the difference when you go to a game and you pay $1,000 for this seat versus 50 bucks for this seat, right?
- 26:57[SPEAKER_04]: You're paying for location, proximity, experience, all this kind of stuff at the same time.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_04]: Same game.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I don't want to be Debbie Downer.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_04]: It's just where my mind's at right now.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, I hear you.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, look, it's in a sports car world.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: It gets dangerous when the narrative completely detaches from, you know, the fundamentals, right?
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: If liquidity dries up or the collective belief of the hobby changes, like that's where that's where the danger lies.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, but I hear you, and you know, going back to the 26th moment with the prospects, it's all based on belief.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's all based on belief and perceived value, perceived dominance, perceived hype, you know, high periods.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's why it's just so much different in the prospect world than anything else, in my opinion, you know, where you, you kind of can have that room for error.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_00]: You kind of have that kind of have that margin for error.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why, you know, I like it.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: Is that there's room for margin of error because these guys are so young and there's
- 27:55[SPEAKER_00]: you know injuries that they can recover from you know what I mean you know these aren't guys necessarily in the league already that like have to show what they what they're capable of you know and like I talk about this all the time I mentioned it and that like there's hype periods like that's why you'd like buying prospects that are younger you know and I hate to talk about prospects and you're having prospects with fatigue but like the reality is it's like if a guy's 18 or 19
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: like, and you have a belief in that guy that he could be, you know, something special or even just, you know, have a two-high periods, like you have the time there, you know, I mean time is on your side, times on your side, and that's a good thing.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you know, it's funny, you talk about a prospect that, you know, both of us hold some cards in, it's like, Zion, your hope.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_04]: Zion, your hope is starting to rake.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I mean, how things got home runs and back to back games.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_04]: If you look at his OPS, you look at his stat lines, like they're pretty solid in AA, you know, and it's like, okay, well, what's going to call Zion to hit the next hype cycle?
- 28:56[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_04]: And so it's kind of one of those things right now where I'm sitting here looking at this tire hope that we're holding them going, hmm, I don't know what the timeframe is here, you know, because you've got good performance right now.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_04]: But is it, is it going to be call up?
- 29:08[SPEAKER_04]: Because I had a guy message me the other day, he goes, dude, like it's almost like at call up prices go down now.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I mean, back in the day, it call up prices would go up and now they just go down to check, check, call, Emerson last night.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_04]: You know, called every sin debut hits a home run.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_04]: It'll be interesting to see, you know, how long does it take for that to sustain Ryan Walshmit just got the debut, you know, and like so it's those are the kind of deep thoughts that I'm having about the hobby now and about trying to understand the new iteration of the hobby.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_04]: and understand when the hype cycle is actually hit.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_04]: Because if you look at Otani, I mean, Otani is a completely standalone thing, but it isn't anomaly in the hobby that you're probably going to see with Wendy and others.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_04]: Do when a card goes 50x, 100x,
- 29:53[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean like that's crazy crazy you know the mean is it seems like there's something else behind it You know, so I don't know that's just my kind of my thoughts on it, but I wouldn't move on I don't want to take up the whole episode talking about you would said you would said something about you know Kind of having some fatigue on your own as it relates to kind of the grading process right now.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah I don't know why but like cards that I own that are raw right now that are not created just don't have the
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have the want to grade them.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't know why.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think I'm fatigued with PSA.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm annoyed about the turnaround times.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm annoyed about the pricing to grade.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_00]: And like, I'm just, look, I see the value in it, but I'm just so over it.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it part of me is like, who cares?
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: Who cares?
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: Why?
- 30:41[SPEAKER_00]: I would, I pay $5,000 to have this card graded.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like, why?
- 30:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I get it.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not looking, like, if I'm not looking to just flip the card, like, I'm in no rush to grade my cards that are sitting there raw.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm just, I'm really, I really just had it with PSA to be honest with you.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_04]: Well, it's the same, it's the same thing.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_04]: It's why do we use PSA?
- 31:05[SPEAKER_04]: Well, we use it for one reason in my opinion.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_04]: It's to play the game of perceived value.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_04]: You know, and again, it's a 10 this got more value.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 31:17[SPEAKER_04]: And that's the thing.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_04]: It's perceived value based on scarcity and based on this whole game of, oh, I've got it and you don't.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, this is what, you know, a little Matt and I have capitalized on in recent years, you take, go back to the mid-90s, right, and you look at these 90s and certs of Michael Jordan or Kobe or whoever else, right?
- 31:40[SPEAKER_04]: It's very unlikely to find many in a high grade.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_04]: But the 10s, six figure cards, you know, or high five figure cards.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_04]: means some of the nines were doing like two grand.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_04]: And you're like, wait a second, a PSA 10 of this card, which there's only 300 of by the way.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_04]: And the PSA 10 might only have 10 of them or 15 of them or whatever.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_04]: But the PSA 9, there's only like 100.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_04]: And it's doing two grand versus 80 grand than a PSA 10.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_04]: Give me the PSA 9 all of that.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's the everything you need to know.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's like I have the card now.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_04]: Now, what's happened is is the hobby's called up to that.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_04]: And they're going, wait a second.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_04]: It's not about perceived value of the grade.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_04]: It's the actual card that is rare in scarce.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_04]: And so you see the sixes in the seventh, just fly into the moon as far as the value is concerned.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_04]: And I think if you see beyond the Fugazi scheme, the Fugazi scheme of grading and all this kind of stuff, and you go, wait a second, the card itself has value.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_04]: But I don't have to play the game.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_04]: I think you can win.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, Grey, I don't know dude.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_00]: I can't bring myself to submit anything to PSA that's been sitting there.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: I just can't, I don't know, for whatever reason.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: I just cannot.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_00]: I just can't help but think that there's some things going to change soon.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_00]: Something is going to change and it's going to happen soon.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I feel it in my bones.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what it is.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it's fanatics coming out of the grading cup.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they're grading service of their own.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know because it seems that the copies
- 33:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's the only thing I can see, but like I just had it, man.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: I've had it with the upcharges I've had it.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: They could do whatever the hell they want.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: Anything they want.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_04]: Do you do you think fanatics makes an announcement at fanatics festival this year that they're starting great in comedy?
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: If I'm putting money on it, no.
- 33:27[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: but I just, I feel like it's in the, in the future, like why would it not, why would it not be?
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like give me one reason why it wouldn't be.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_04]: Well, again, you talk about a company that is cornering the market and, you know, protecting the process from pack opening to distribution,
- 33:45[SPEAKER_04]: to grading, to you know, auctioning right the auction sites all the way start to finish.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_04]: The one element they don't have right and they've got everything else, they've got all the distribution, they've got all the, you know, manufacturing, they've got all the distribution, they have, they have the auction site with fanatics collect, you know, they just don't have the grading site.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_04]: So I mean, certainly.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_04]: on my vertical integration of the hobby making it easy from a consumer standpoint to buy grade cell, that's the one element that they're missing.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it makes sense from a business standpoint.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, 100 percent.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that's coming this year, but it's coming.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: It needs to come.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_00]: Something needs to happen because I've had it.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and I'm just getting fatigued.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_04]: While you say that with PSA, I mean, you know, I think, I mean, BGS processes have an improved and collect collectors bought them.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_04]: You know, SGC is nearly falling off the face of the earth, you know what I mean with that.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, again, so it's, it's a really interesting environment, but to your point, it does bring fatigue.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_04]: And then what actually, what else brings fatigue, man, is when you submit these cards and, you know, you take a regular submission.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, you're talking
- 35:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not even getting them back, I wouldn't even get them back in a week.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's like two to two and a half weeks, even at a walk through level.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, it's absurd.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_04]: That's crazy.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_04]: So you talk about a regular grading order.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 35:13[SPEAKER_04]: These submit down there, you're paying 80 bucks a card.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_04]: You know, like to have any kind of process turn around time of a business that focuses on grading and selling cards, right?
- 35:24[SPEAKER_04]: You have to build in a 30 to 45 day lead window, right?
- 35:29[SPEAKER_04]: Of the market changing on a specific prospect player, whatever.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_04]: So back in the day, you know, if you would get a new release and you would hit a true gold auto of somebody and send it off at regular level, you'd have it back in 10 days.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_04]: So that car would be able to sell, you know, within 10 days of it being hit and product and you'd be able to hold your value, whereas now,
- 35:51[SPEAKER_04]: If you're waiting 345 days after release, who knows what those card values you're going to be?
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: The best way to do it now, I would imagine is for example, the Dallas show, like, great amount site.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: It was perfect timing from a 26-bowlman standpoint, right?
- 36:05[SPEAKER_00]: You rip, you rip, you have the car, you get great amount site at BGS or PSA if they're there, you know, and get it right on site.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's the quickest way you're gonna get it.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_04]: It's just, and the downside with that is we were at Dallas and people constantly complain about how brutal BGS was on in-person grading.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_04]: You know, like, yeah, seven-year-halfs and bad.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it brings up another point to that is like I get more weary more and more weary about shipping expensive cards And I know you mentioned something about that, too, but I'm getting more and more weird I see more and more theft stuff coming up, you know, and even when you haven't insurance on something I'm seeing it not being honored.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know man.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's just I'm just I'm just like keeping these cards sitting to save from saying it
- 36:51[SPEAKER_04]: You know, it's it's funny man.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_04]: It's like you you kind of get in that mindset where you're like, I don't even want to go out I don't want to leave my house there's too much drama around you know to me.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_04]: Just like I don't stay in That brings me to a couple of points that I want to make and this is this might be like Big Matt's rant session So let's go.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, this is Big Matt's PSA public service announcement shipping how value cards
- 37:15[SPEAKER_04]: Dude, I don't know who you are, but if you ship me a 5th or card in a USPS label, like I'm going to drive to where you live, and I just want to kick you in the shin.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_04]: Just one time where it hurts really bad, and you just don't ever do that again, because I don't care what your margin is in the card, but if I'm spending $5,000 on a card, I do not want to track it through USPS.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm talking about somebody we've done a lot of business with.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_04]: They sell a lot of cards at some point in time.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_04]: You're just being cheap bottom line.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_05]: That's what it is.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_04]: Be in cheap because if you look at it, if you're paying priority shipping on a USPS label, you're paying like 12 bucks or whatever.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_04]: I have, you can go by shipping software.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_04]: We have UPS, through most of my UPS two days, cost me $15 to $17, right?
- 38:07[SPEAKER_04]: Actually, yeah, US second day, it's like, you know, whatever.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_04]: It's super cheap.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_04]: And then my overnight stuff is probably 30, 40 bucks.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_04]: So you're talking about a less than 1% fee on a card to ship it overnight that gives the seller and the buyer piece of mind to know that it's the most efficient way to get it there.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, I asked a little amount of, I could do why is this person's ship in USPS?
- 38:30[SPEAKER_04]: Like, what are they even doing?
- 38:31[SPEAKER_04]: Like, how do they stay in the card business?
- 38:33[SPEAKER_04]: Like, are you serious right now?
- 38:35[SPEAKER_04]: Like, just be better.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_04]: You know, just be better.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_04]: Like, just be better.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_04]: And the other thing is, is like, when it comes to packaging.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_04]: Like, I am a bit of a stickler for making sure that stuff is done well.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_04]: right and and not picking on my younger friends the previous generation sound like the old man on the porch, but a lot of these young kids in the hobby they don't have necessarily attention to detail, you know what I mean?
- 38:58[SPEAKER_04]: So they're just taking my slab and they're just putting it in a pack, you know, a little little bit slab as that, which is nice.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_04]: That's the Ethan Conrad Goating.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_04]: I like that.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_04]: So they're just sticking it in a padded mailer and they're slapping a label on it and they're sending it out.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_04]: You know, protect the card a little bit.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_04]: You know, make sure that we're clear on protecting the card.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_04]: Cut up a couple pieces of cardboard, put those over top of it, you know, double wrap it, put, put, put.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_00]: Show some damn respect for the card.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_04]: Well, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
- 39:48[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, that's the PSA.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_04]: The other thing I'll say this is like when it comes to selling damaged cards, right, or being very transparent about the condition of a card, we had a really large showeotani that we purchased.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, the pictures were sent, per my recollection, the pictures were taken while the card was still in the toploader and the, the,
- 40:11[SPEAKER_04]: the hands were holding it a certain way when they took the picture and you get the card in and it's got indents.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_04]: It's got corner issues and you're like, and the sellers like, well that was a that was a shipping issue.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, okay, it's a shipping issue.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_04]: So we'll handle it that way if that's the way you want to handle it.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_04]: But
- 40:27[SPEAKER_04]: At the end of the day, you have to lay your head on the pillow at night knowing that if you sell a card and the card has issues and you don't disclose those issues, it's really on you now there is the honest assessment of like listen I don't really know what to look for somebody had been in the hobby long and they're not looking at the back and they're not using lights, you know most people are and so again am I saying that we've you know never sold a card that has issues no I mean I'm sure we probably have
- 40:54[SPEAKER_04]: I think we've tried to be pretty forthcoming every time we have so cards, but just one of those things, man.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's where the grade matters is why people do that is because the grade, the grade of the card matters so damn much that that's why people do it and people are desperate to capitalize and to have as high margins as they possibly can and it forces them to be non-transparent, unfortunately.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_04]: And so just kind of buyer beware, you know, just this is the hobby we're in.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_04]: This is the stat and I'll tell you this too.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_04]: It's like going to card shows.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_04]: I tell you a little Matt is all done.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_04]: I almost never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever buy raw cards at card shows.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, it's just, why would you, you know, because these people are all looking.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_04]: And again, even on new product releases, if I see a card go up, you know, raw for sale, I'm like, uh, probably not, you know, I'd honestly rather buy the none and try to regrade it, rather than buy the raw and go for the 10.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because of wrong now, you assume, made or less.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, because it's, it's just a way of the world.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I didn't do release as an exception for it, honestly, to a point, because you know, people are just ripping this posting it, whatever.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_04]: And it's into, like we've talked about.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_04]: If you look at the feedback, you know what I mean?
- 42:07[SPEAKER_04]: From the buyer, if the buyer has a lot of feedback, and you think that they grade cards, they probably looked at it.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_04]: If it's somebody who's new to eBay, doesn't have a ton of feedback, maybe they open it in a box and they threw it out there.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like nobody's buying a raw card from me.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody, like a high-end raw card, nobody's buying from me.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_04]: ever never, you know, it's like so hard to move raw cards once you get them.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_04]: It's easier to just grade it, let it be a seven in auction and what exactly.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 42:36[SPEAKER_04]: Or auction it with, you know, the condition listed in the description and just, you know, and just let it ride.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_04]: But current here's another thought I had it.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_04]: And this something you might not be as familiar with.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_04]: But think through this with me, I'm asking your opinion directly on the show.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_04]: If you're looking at a card that has a fresh 9-digit certification number, okay, versus the card that was say graded 10-12-15 years ago, okay, and let's say they're both a PSA 9, in your opinion, do you think there's any true difference in the division of those cards?
- 43:10[SPEAKER_00]: There should be.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if the market recognizes that the new search should certainly be more valuable in my opinion.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_00]: And what is that based on from your opinion?
- 43:18[SPEAKER_00]: the grading standards that PSA has now now has their tougher grading standards.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_04]: You know, would you not think there's more attention to the grade now with magnification and all this kind of stuff?
- 43:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's a lot more attention to the grade.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_00]: I also think it's subjective somewhat, too.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: But as an overall picture, like the new certain
- 43:43[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and that's the thought and I I'm glad you said that because we will map post it a real about that specific to not modern cards now again, if it's a fresh release product, you know, to me, yeah, it's different.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_04]: You're talking about cards that have some age to them, you know, or paper cards, and he was specifically talking about like Steph Curry up to rookie from 2009, brown rookies from like 2003 or whatever it was.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_04]: you know, Kobe rookies from like 96 and he was making the art and some guy jumped on the reel and goes, you know, basically this is just based on influencer data and you're not even aware of whatever and I'm like wait a second.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_04]: So you're suggesting that we don't have experience with this being an actual value ad.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I'm clarifying for me, Stella.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_04]: because I think it's probably fairly common among the educated hobbyists would say that a fresher label certificate does carry more value in the market.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_00]: It should.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: It should.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: It does to certain people.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: I would say the educated sophisticated collector.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_00]: It should.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_00]: Look, I've owned a card.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying a thing in one specifically, but I don't own it anymore, so I don't want to say what it is, but it was a super from
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: The early Bowman days and the card was in a nine and I wanted to get a fresh holder for it right like with a new serred and you know, but if you're getting a fresh holder, he is a reviews the card again and that card, I did not just I decided not to get it because the card would agree to the six or seven, not a nine, not even close, not even close, just looking at it to the slab.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that's something to be really, really mindful of because those are like real, real, real issues.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_04]: Like there's certain old vintage cards that are in an old holders that are 2s and 3s, or even 3s or 4s.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_00]: Then the value significance is yeah.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, 1s or 2s now.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 45:41[SPEAKER_04]: And so you're seeing this resurgence, I think, in new search or whatever.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_04]: So those are those are ways, I think that I'm kind of looking for value in the hobby.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_04]: And it's dangerous game to go and buy an older label, you know, to try to re-grade it or whatever.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_04]: I had a, I had a Ted Williams, 1948, bought it as an SGC for older label.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm looking at the card, I'm like, dude, this is great, Matthew.
- 46:03[SPEAKER_04]: We could probably resub it.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_04]: Flip it over right across the back, dude.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_00]: Just straight up, wrinkle.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's it's why I do like the direction that you that little man is going in this.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_00]: So like looking for the strategic ways to find the value, you know, like, you know, I know that you guys get over the the baseball prospect game once the season starts, it's kind of like baseball's over for you guys.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: And so looking at the value of like like if he's looking at like,
- 46:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Cooper flag nines, you know, to try to, to try to buy and potentially regrade like he sees the value in those, you know what I mean, like he's looking where the value is, which is like it's really smart like based on population, it's just based on demand and population like that's a really smart different way to look at it.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_00]: You kind of have to look outside the box of what everybody else is doing and I think that's what he's doing, which is cool.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it is, man.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_04]: And that's what he's spending his time doing.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_04]: You know, he was tied up with baseball and basketball and all this kind of stuff.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_04]: And he kind of got free and he's like, hey, you know, I want to go do this and he've run like three or four ideas by me.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_04]: And one of the ideas he did was interesting.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, this is a 15 year old kid, right?
- 47:08[SPEAKER_04]: And honestly, I'm like learning stuff from him every day and it's like, man, this is interesting.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_04]: because he has that passion right like I'm 40 44 going to be 45 later this year I'm talking about living in the matrix being worn down being tired don't have any passion you get around a 15-year-old kid who's full of ideas and passion you're like oh dude wake me up a little bit I need that shot in my veins you know he's like dad one of the things I want to start doing is making controversial reals.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_04]: You know, he's like little little hot takes that I have and throw the sauce out there and see what happens dude.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_04]: I like it a bunch of feedback.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 47:40[SPEAKER_04]: It's like, uh, it reminds me of like Custanza in a way like it didn't know when they're in a soft out episode where Custanza was talking about like in any press as good press or like negative, you know what I mean feedback is good feedback.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_04]: All the bad boy.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_04]: I'm in the short episode.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the bad boy.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, bad boy.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, I'm the bad boy, Jerry.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a bad boy.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a bad boy, Elaine.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a bad boy.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_02]: Don't tell me I'm a nice guy.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 48:04[SPEAKER_02]: That's a little mad, a little mad.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_00]: She's on the phone, she's like, what are you doing?
- 48:07[SPEAKER_04]: He's like, you don't want to know.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_04]: Hello, Matt's doing this castan's thing, where he's trying to be like the hot take bad boy.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_04]: He's trying to like stir up some sauce and we're getting a lot of comments.
- 48:17[SPEAKER_04]: And dude, it's, it's why I looked at our Instagram feed and like we've added like, I don't know, 50 new followers over the last week.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_04]: And it's a little mad like going, hey, I'm gonna be a little saucy.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_04]: I'm gonna like stir it up a little bit.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like, hey, if you can take the heat,
- 48:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that's all I was going to say, as long as you could take the heat, you know, power to them because like I'll tell you what I can't take the freaking heat anymore.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just annoyed with it.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have it in me.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 48:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, why do I do this sometimes?
- 48:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like why don't I put myself out there for that?
- 48:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like I didn't get putting yourself out there allows that to be like
- 48:46[SPEAKER_00]: What's the point when I get to see?
- 48:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't need this man.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like I don't need this.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_00]: I don't need the drama and again He's 50 don't you see get deal with it.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we can handle it or whatever like you know So funny too.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_04]: He'll come to me sometimes to be like death.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_04]: Check out this guy.
- 48:59[SPEAKER_03]: What a loser And it's so funny.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_03]: That reminds me of what wedding crashes.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_03]: You know the meme when he's like Go he died a handcliding accident.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah
- 49:11[SPEAKER_03]: Like secretly drilling everybody on social so it's it's all good man.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_04]: Well, dude, as we wrap up the day man any kind of final thoughts on our little chat today.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_00]: No, I enjoyed the chat.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_00]: I know it was a little all over the place, but like I feel like we, you know, we really died into some stuff and it was a lot of fatigue talk, which is honestly I feel the same way just in different parts of the hobby and in life, you know what I mean, but all good stuff, man.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, good stuff is good chat and today.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_04]: You know, for us, man, we have this run in early winter, January, February.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_04]: We always have a couple of big car shows to go through or go to.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_04]: And then we generally have a law, April, May, you know, into early June.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_04]: And we're kind of in the law right now.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_04]: And I just reminded Matthews, I mean, to this last year.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_04]: But now we've got fanatics fest coming up.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_04]: We'll be there in July.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_04]: We've got the national coming up last week of July into August.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_04]: You know, so some energy kind of coming back in.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_04]: I think the world cup, just the energy around the world cup is going to be huge.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_04]: Just for the hobby in general sports.
