Speaker 1: And those are the sounds of Fifth Avenue and I'll
• 0:09
Speaker 1: have a little more for you. But here at One
• 0:11
Speaker 1: Leg Up Alex Media. I told you on the drive
• 0:14
Speaker 1: to thirty five we'd be having a lot of fun
• 0:16
Speaker 1: along the way, and marching with the Irish American Baseball
• 0:20
Speaker 1: Society was no exception. And marching on Fifth Avenue on
• 0:26
Speaker 1: a parade that my dad made a tradition to go
• 0:29
Speaker 1: to every year, and it was the first time my
• 0:31
Speaker 1: march since he passed involved in the society that he loved,
• 0:36
Speaker 1: you know, baseball something he loved and Saint Patrick's Day
• 0:40
Speaker 1: and I think being Irish he loved as well. So
• 0:43
Speaker 1: it was just special. But I did get a chance
• 0:46
Speaker 1: to on One Leg Up Media talk to some very
• 0:49
Speaker 1: important members of the Irish American Baseball Society. Let's lead
• 0:53
Speaker 1: off with current Long Island Ducks pitcher Garrett Crowley.
• 1:00
Speaker 2: You have to say, that's got.
• 1:02
Speaker 3: To be I sid. I was great, straight up.
• 1:07
  Speaker 4: You know.
• 1:07
Speaker 2: So I haven't got here represent my heritage.
• 1:10
Speaker 3: My grandfather's at home right now, he's nine years old.
• 1:13
Speaker 4: He's born in Court, So I'm uh. We were just
• 1:16
Speaker 4: so good to get back to the community and you know,
• 1:20
Speaker 4: you know, be a part of this tradition.
• 1:21
Speaker 3: I'm the Ducks. I mean, I've been in many others.
• 1:24
Speaker 1: Good nights over there. They do it, don't wow, don't they? Yeah?
• 1:26
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why I brought this hat out for the
• 1:27
  Speaker 3: last season.
• 1:28
Speaker 1: So I'm uh it's the green hat.
• 1:30
Speaker 3: So looking forward for another season this year.
• 1:32
  Speaker 1: I actually just.
• 1:32
Speaker 3: Signed back with him Holy Regain, So I'm looking forward
• 1:35
Speaker 3: to get back out there.
• 1:37
Speaker 4: To back and say hello.
• 1:42
Speaker 1: If you ever march in a parade, maybe you experienced
• 1:44
Speaker 1: a long wait time and stepping off on Fifth Avenue
• 1:47
Speaker 1: does take a while. I learned that yesterday. But I
• 1:50
Speaker 1: got to catch up with someone I used to announce,
• 1:53
Speaker 1: now not on Queen's College's side, but on their opponent,
• 1:57
Speaker 1: Concordia College. Name is Mitchell and he plays for the
• 2:02
Speaker 1: national team for the Irish in the Irish American base
• 2:06
Speaker 1: So Society. He plays for Team Ireland. We're just trying
• 2:10
Speaker 1: to get on the WBC. But that's a different story
• 2:12
Speaker 1: for another day, and you can support that cause in
• 2:15
Speaker 1: the petition below. But here is Patiller and bitch we
• 2:20
Speaker 1: got way back Accordia College, Queen's College. Yes, it's like
• 2:23
Speaker 1: being an Irish American baseball Society member.
• 2:25
Speaker 5: And play on the national team.
• 2:27
Speaker 3: It's been a great opportunity to build the community through
• 2:30
Speaker 3: baseball and bringing together the Irish community and all the
• 2:35
Speaker 3: cities that are just built by the Irish community. Coming
• 2:38
Speaker 3: over from Ireland and playing for the Ireland national team
• 2:41
Speaker 3: has been probably the best highlight of my career in baseball.
• 2:45
Speaker 3: Have you done any of these other marches?
• 2:47
Speaker 1: I guess your first march this year?
• 2:49
Speaker 3: I did one two or three years ago with Shaw Casinos.
• 2:52
Speaker 3: A great experience, like that's nothing like in the same
• 2:56
  Speaker 3: passion's brain.
• 2:57
  Speaker 4: Amen.
• 2:58
Speaker 1: Well, when you were repped the Irish across the chest?
• 3:00
Speaker 1: What does that mean to you?
• 3:00
Speaker 5: Like wrapping the Irish across the chest, that's gotta.
• 3:03
  Speaker 3: Mean a whole on a lot, right, Yes, there's a
• 3:05
Speaker 3: huge pride to it because you know that your roots
• 3:09
Speaker 3: and heritage come from Ireland and there's a whole lot
• 3:12
Speaker 3: of pride that comes along with it.
• 3:14
Speaker 1: Hey man, all right, thanks for joining me a bit.
• 3:16
Speaker 1: And then coming into the day, you know, there was
• 3:18
Speaker 1: a lot of uh excitement about the Irish American Baseball
• 3:22
Speaker 1: siding marching and alongside everyone was two time World Series
• 3:29

• 3:35

• 4:46
Speaker 1: And then the Grand Marshall for the Irish American Baseball
• 4:48
Speaker 1: Society was CBS two weather man and just an all
• 4:52
Speaker 1: around awesome guy. Remember the first time yesterday on the Avenue,
• 4:56
Speaker 1: Lonnie Quinn one like a alex At queen. What'd you
• 5:01
Speaker 1: like to march up to fabruy right here?
• 5:02
Speaker 2: Okay, First of all, we're marching up at fab the

  Speaker 2: opposite direction.

  Speaker 1: going northbound.

Speaker 4: Okay, because you have a sweat of just the American
• 5:24
Speaker 4: blood and if you love baseball, right, so I'm another
• 5:26
Speaker 4: baseball enthusias But but to be in.
• 5:29
Speaker 1: The Irish fol on this day.
• 5:31
Speaker 3: To be in the the Irish mark baseball for sasues.
• 5:35
Speaker 4: Two things are so important to the Tell me love
• 5:37
Speaker 4: love this day and this guy.
• 5:39
Speaker 1: Now, thank you, Ronnie. So to continue the tradition with
• 5:42
Speaker 1: Saint Patrick's Day, to honor my Irish heritage, I think
• 5:46
Speaker 1: you know the story on my mom's side, one surviving ancestor,
• 5:51
Speaker 1: beating disease and famine, coming over to America to make
• 5:55
Speaker 1: a fresh start, leading to all of us being here
• 5:59
Speaker 1: in the family. I mean, it's just pretty amazing. On
• 6:02
Speaker 1: my mom's side, and then on my dad's side, I'm
• 6:06
Speaker 1: pretty sure there's a lot of Irish in there, you know.
• 6:10
Speaker 1: On my mom's side, they say we're five percent, but
• 6:11
Speaker 1: it's the best five percent. I mean, come on this.
• 6:13
Speaker 1: The Irish part of me is the most strongest feeling
• 6:19
Speaker 1: of all of them. And I'm very proud because the
• 6:23
Speaker 1: Irish are a hardworking people. They are a good people,
• 6:27
Speaker 1: and they are special people. I've been to Ireland in
• 6:29
Speaker 1: two thousand and eight. I mean it was special at sixteen.
• 6:32
Speaker 1: I want to go back as an adult. But they
• 6:35
Speaker 1: are a special, welcoming people. You see in every pub
• 6:37
Speaker 1: in New York. You see it everywhere you go. The
• 6:40
Speaker 1: Irish are a special group to be around. And to
• 6:43
Speaker 1: be five percent of that, it's special. And I'm sure
• 6:47
Speaker 1: there's a lot more on my dad's side. We have
• 6:49
Speaker 1: to evaluate that one day. But there was another reminder
• 6:55
Speaker 1: on the parade route this year how much I miss
• 6:59
Speaker 1: Danny are already Danny voice, because when'd you know it?
• 7:02
Speaker 1: The first bagpipes with the New York pd pipes and
• 7:06
Speaker 1: drums I heard was Danny Boy, And so I want
• 7:12
Speaker 1: to end with that little playing up Fifth Avenue. And
• 7:15
Speaker 1: I always love the bagpipes up Fifth Avenue, but marching
• 7:18
Speaker 1: was special. But to hear the bagpipes up Fifth Avenue
• 7:21
Speaker 1: every year, pipes and drums, nothing like it. And when
• 7:26
Speaker 1: I think of Danny Boy and I hear that song
• 7:28
Speaker 1: Danny Boy, I think of Danny Voice, my dad, my grandpa,
• 7:34
Speaker 1: and of course someone that welcomed this in the cardinal
• 7:36
Speaker 1: into the cathedral for many years, Cardinal John O'Connor, who
• 7:41
Speaker 1: we lost twenty six years ago and I think is
• 7:45
Speaker 1: missed to this day, to this day as Archbishop Hicks
• 7:52
Speaker 1: takes over and Cardinal Dolan did march yesterday, which was
• 7:57
Speaker 1: really special with the MIPD. But yeah, this parade, of
• 8:03
Speaker 1: all the parades, hits home the most and it's the
• 8:08
Speaker 1: most exciting one for me. So to be on that
• 8:10
Speaker 1: route with the Irish American Baseball Society, John Fitzgerald, Rob Jesse,
• 8:15
Speaker 1: all those folks on the route very special and I
• 8:21
Speaker 1: hope to continue that connection and membership in partnership with
• 8:26
Speaker 1: Irish American Baseball Society in the days to come. I mean,
• 8:32
Speaker 1: we'll do some play by play of Wolfound baseball. What
• 8:33
Speaker 1: do you think If you want to know how hard
• 8:37
Speaker 1: working the Irish are, let me leave you with these stats.
• 8:42
Speaker 1: Two million Irish refugees. Two million fled to the famine,
• 8:51
Speaker 1: and though they were not always welcome here, they fought
• 8:54
Speaker 1: for their place in America and have built up an
• 8:59
Speaker 1: Irish community that is so tightened it and close, and
• 9:04
Speaker 1: an Irish American community that's so tightened it and close.
• 9:08
Speaker 1: And that is why we should love and I love
• 9:12
Speaker 1: the Irish American and the Irish people. And that's my
• 9:15
Speaker 1: message on one like a plex media
