- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with on our radio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Welcome to the Almost Famous podcast.
- 0:07Speaker 3: We are here tonight with one of my favorite people
- 0:11Speaker 3: in the world, one of Almost Famous listeners favorite people
- 0:14Speaker 3: in the world, Kaylan, Welcome. It's been a while since
- 0:21Speaker 3: you've been on here. Used to be a regular guest
- 0:23Speaker 3: with us, giving us updates on everything happening in your life.
- 0:25Speaker 3: But it's been a bit since you've jumped on the
- 0:28Speaker 3: Almost Famous feed.
- 0:30Speaker 4: It's been a bit. But I just come see you
- 0:32Speaker 4: in person, now, you know. I come seeing you and
- 0:35Speaker 4: your wife and Winnie.
- 0:36Speaker 5: It's great.
- 0:37Speaker 2: It's better that way, so much better.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Life is so the crazy part is, Kaylen, out of
- 0:43Speaker 3: any of Jess's friends, have met Winnie the most, you know,
- 0:48Speaker 3: because for the first few weeks we weren't seeing anybody,
- 0:51Speaker 3: and then you came and you've been here and you've
- 0:55Speaker 3: got it, and like, just wait to see her again.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I go on and on. She's changed. It's wild.
- 1:00Speaker 5: It's awesome, Sin sing Winnie.
- 1:02Speaker 4: And because we're so close that my goal is to
- 1:05Speaker 4: see her once a month, So I'm at once a
- 1:08Speaker 4: month and then in May Jess and I are going
- 1:10Speaker 4: to a concert, so that'd be the third month.
- 1:13Speaker 5: So I'm hoping I can keep it up.
- 1:15Speaker 3: It would be incredible, and I hope you do too.
- 1:17Speaker 3: It means a lot. That's kind of what we're here
- 1:20Speaker 3: talking about today. You and Dean, let's start with this.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Do live close ish to Denver. Close to Denver. You
- 1:27Speaker 3: live in Carbondale, which is just west of here. It's
- 1:30Speaker 3: a beautiful place. It's not far from where the two
- 1:33Speaker 3: of you got married. How is the experience being, you know,
- 1:37Speaker 3: moving from Vegas, Slash, La to Carbondale, Colorado.
- 1:45Speaker 5: It is the best thing ever.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I talk about it all the time, Like moving from Vegas, La,
- 1:52Speaker 4: I feel so at peace, Like I'm a very anxious person,
- 1:55Speaker 4: and I'm still anxious to some degree, but I'm just
- 1:57Speaker 4: so calm and I feel very grounded. Like I wake
- 2:01Speaker 4: up there's thirty elk in the backyard, and then there's
- 2:04Speaker 4: twenty deer in the front yard, and we've got turkeys
- 2:07Speaker 4: trying to attack alistair.
- 2:08Speaker 5: So it's it's it's fun.
- 2:10Speaker 4: I love it. It's the best thing, and it's really
- 2:12Speaker 4: hard to leave. I've never been in a place where
- 2:15Speaker 4: I love it so much. And also I love every season.
- 2:18Speaker 4: You live in Colorado, so it's like every single season
- 2:21Speaker 4: is perfect, which is great.
- 2:23Speaker 3: It's it is a unique thing. I think it's something.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I mean, obviously, we live outside of Denver twenty miles
- 2:31Speaker 3: and so there are similarities with the elk and the deer.
- 2:35Speaker 3: And today I have a buffalo. We have buffalo. And
- 2:38Speaker 3: today I had to bring Whalen in early from a
- 2:41Speaker 3: walk because a fox was like in our backyard and
- 2:45Speaker 3: it was acting all funny, like there's something very sacred
- 2:50Speaker 3: to me. And it's very peaceful. I think you said
- 2:52Speaker 3: it best right there. It's like very peaceful to this
- 2:56Speaker 3: kind of spot to live in. It's different than in
- 3:00Speaker 3: a city.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Yeah, and you guys are luckier because you are so
- 3:05Speaker 4: close to a city. So if you need, like well
- 3:09Speaker 4: if just needs this suphort, I'm thinking, like girl thingks
- 3:11Speaker 4: just needs a Sephora.
- 3:13Speaker 5: I have to drive to you guys to get to Sephora.
- 3:16Speaker 4: You have all the things that you need and we
- 3:18Speaker 4: are very isolated.
- 3:19Speaker 5: But there's like pros and cons.
- 3:21Speaker 2: To both it.
- 3:22Speaker 3: The I think for for anybody making the move from
- 3:26Speaker 3: a big city like Vegas or La to a place
- 3:30Speaker 3: like Carbondale, especially newly married, I think there, I mean
- 3:36Speaker 3: it would be for me at least, it'd be these
- 3:38Speaker 3: concerns of, Okay, do we really like each other enough
- 3:41Speaker 3: to be this isolated in the world. I mean, because
- 3:44Speaker 3: you are pretty isolated out there. So how has being
- 3:48Speaker 3: out there impacted your marriage? Because this is where Dina's from,
- 3:53Speaker 3: It's kind of where his roots are at least at
- 3:56Speaker 3: some level. So how has it been for the two
- 3:59Speaker 3: of you to get as you do move, you know.
- 4:02Speaker 2: To his home.
- 4:04Speaker 5: It has been.
- 4:05Speaker 4: It's been really great for me selfishly, Like all of
- 4:09Speaker 4: his high school friends are there. I've met all of
- 4:11Speaker 4: their wives and get along with them, so I already
- 4:14Speaker 4: have like a built in great group of girlfriends, and
- 4:17Speaker 4: it's been great for our marriage, Like it's been great
- 4:20Speaker 4: being isolated, but also living in the valley that we do,
- 4:25Speaker 4: there are so many community based events, like more there's
- 4:30Speaker 4: like a bigger sense of community than I've ever felt
- 4:33Speaker 4: in La and Vegas because it's just so big, but
- 4:36Speaker 4: there's constantly something going on. So every Wednesday we go
- 4:39Speaker 4: to trivia, Like the bartenders know us, like the whole
- 4:43Speaker 4: restaurant owners know us, and like every single place we
- 4:45Speaker 4: go it's so intimate that we kind of know everyone,
- 4:47Speaker 4: which is fun.
- 4:48Speaker 3: I'm curious because I don't know many people that are
- 4:51Speaker 3: better at it and more known for it than you
- 4:55Speaker 3: and Dean and and I don't want to see the
- 4:57Speaker 3: influencing space because that feels like a.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Diminishes exactly what you do.
- 5:04Speaker 3: But you, too, have done a really great job at
- 5:08Speaker 3: kind of showing off your life through social media and
- 5:11Speaker 3: through other platforms to the public in my opinion, and
- 5:15Speaker 3: you tell me if I'm wrong. This is where my
- 5:16Speaker 3: curiosity comes from. It would be a lot easier to
- 5:20Speaker 3: do that when you're in Los Angeles or Vegas, because
- 5:22Speaker 3: there's these big, fancy events that you're getting invited to,
- 5:25Speaker 3: and you know you're running into people who are like, oh,
- 5:28Speaker 3: there's Kaylin, let's hire her on to do this brand
- 5:31Speaker 3: deal because she's so great. Now you're in Carbondale. Has
- 5:36Speaker 3: it changed that at all? Does it feel harder? Does
- 5:39Speaker 3: it feel easier? Kind of talk through what it's like
- 5:42Speaker 3: to influence her, to show off your life from a
- 5:45Speaker 3: completely different city that this isn't super common.
- 5:48Speaker 5: In it kind of it feels easier and harder.
- 5:52Speaker 4: It does feel harder, like you're not like going face
- 5:54Speaker 4: to face with brands, But it feels easier in the
- 5:56Speaker 4: sense of, like, I feel way more comfortable sharing my life.
- 6:00Speaker 4: It's the happiest I've ever been. It's true, Like I
- 6:03Speaker 4: tell everyone, it's the best place in the world. So
- 6:04Speaker 4: I'm just like so much happier and feel like I'm
- 6:07Speaker 4: way more open. In LA there's a lot of showboating
- 6:12Speaker 4: in the influencer space, particularly, so it's tricky and I'm
- 6:17Speaker 4: just like, I feel whatever, if I don't get a
- 6:19Speaker 4: brand deal because I'm not at an event, that's fine
- 6:21Speaker 4: because I'm happy just like being here with my wild
- 6:24Speaker 4: animals in my front yard, you know.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I mean it's why I stayed, because the race to
- 6:30Speaker 3: stay relevant in Los Angeles was eating me alive, and
- 6:32Speaker 3: so I had to stay in Denver because, if anything,
- 6:35Speaker 3: it gave me the mental excuse to be like, I
- 6:38Speaker 3: wasn't invited to that because I don't.
- 6:40Speaker 5: Live there, right, and so your ego, it's better for
- 6:44Speaker 5: my ego.
- 6:44Speaker 3: It's what I needed. I have a big ego and
- 6:46Speaker 3: it gets hurt too, so when I'm.
- 6:49Speaker 5: Away, so I get that.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Actually, I'm like, no, I wasn't invited because I don't
- 6:53Speaker 4: live close.
- 6:54Speaker 3: They got to buy a plane ticket or it has
- 6:56Speaker 3: me to travel in. It's I protected my ego by
- 6:58Speaker 3: staying here. I think that's like, if it comes down
- 7:01Speaker 3: to it, I was protecting myself, like I.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Don't want to go to Coachell or Stagecoach. But the
- 7:05Speaker 5: fact that I wasn't.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Invited, I've never been invited to either. So if that
- 7:11Speaker 3: makes you feel better, I've never been to either. It
- 7:13Speaker 3: never been invited to either. But the reason is because
- 7:15Speaker 3: I live in Denver. Yeah, it's just not convenient for
- 7:18Speaker 3: anybody to invite me to hang out with them. You
- 7:20Speaker 3: get it, Kaitlin, you have made the reason I asked
- 7:34Speaker 3: about this is E News has had an interview recently
- 7:39Speaker 3: talking about your fertility experience. Now they described it as
- 7:43Speaker 3: fertility struggles. But I am not going to put that
- 7:46Speaker 3: word on you unless you use that word yourself. So
- 7:51Speaker 3: for anybody listening who doesn't read E News but listens
- 7:54Speaker 3: to the almost famous podcast, I guess the assumption here
- 7:58Speaker 3: that I'm making is that you and Dean are at
- 8:01Speaker 3: least considering starting a family and expanding your family, and
- 8:07Speaker 3: then you take it from there to wherever you want
- 8:09Speaker 3: to take it to.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Yeah, so we've been trying for not quite a year,
- 8:15Speaker 4: but we're like coming up on that cusp, and it's
- 8:19Speaker 4: it's harder than I anticipated because I have many, many siblings.
- 8:23Speaker 4: My mom got pregnant super easily, and I thought that
- 8:27Speaker 4: would happen for me shet like first try every single time,
- 8:30Speaker 4: every single kid, so I like anticipated that. But I'm
- 8:34Speaker 4: still not pregnant and I'm not putting too much pressure
- 8:37Speaker 4: on myself.
- 8:38Speaker 5: And Dean and I were just talking about this.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Two of our best friends are getting married next year
- 8:43Speaker 4: in Ireland, and so it's like, if I get pregnant
- 8:45Speaker 4: right now, we won't be able to go. But Dean's like,
- 8:48Speaker 4: if there's always an excuse to put it off, you know,
- 8:51Speaker 4: So we're gonna keep trying. If we get pregnant, that's awesome.
- 8:54Speaker 4: If we don't, then we can go to Ireland. And
- 8:57Speaker 4: I don't know, we're not putting pressure on it yet
- 8:58Speaker 4: and we're just gonna keep like taking it easy and it'll.
- 9:02Speaker 5: Happen when it happens.
- 9:03Speaker 4: And you guys are proof of that because you have
- 9:05Speaker 4: a perfect little Winny, and you guys have made me
- 9:08Speaker 4: so excited for kids because anytime I see what she's
- 9:10Speaker 4: just so great and talking to Jess, Jess is like
- 9:13Speaker 4: the happiest mom ever, which you don't see that often.
- 9:15Speaker 3: I feel like, yeah, Jess, and like that's a genuine,
- 9:19Speaker 3: authentic experience for her. She was just telling me this
- 9:23Speaker 3: on the walk yesterday. She said, if I can do
- 9:26Speaker 3: one thing, not everybody's baby is the same as whinny,
- 9:31Speaker 3: easier or harder. Not everybody's mothering experience is the same,
- 9:36Speaker 3: you know, not everybody's postpartum is the same. But she's
- 9:40Speaker 3: she said, if I can do one thing, it's just
- 9:41Speaker 3: encourage moms that it's not bad. It's good, no matter what,
- 9:46Speaker 3: it's good. It could be hard, but it's good, and
- 9:50Speaker 3: to encourage that. But I'll tell you what, Jess, You're right,
- 9:54Speaker 3: she's thrived in this role. Like it's been incredible, and
- 9:58Speaker 3: I would tell anybody, like it's awesome. It's the coolest,
- 10:00Speaker 3: most fun thing. But the other side of that is
- 10:05Speaker 3: it took us time. It took us a lot of work.
- 10:07Speaker 3: It took us a lot of doctor's appointments and checkups
- 10:10Speaker 3: and tests and figuring stuff out to make it, you know,
- 10:15Speaker 3: make us both healthy enough to make this happen.
- 10:17Speaker 2: But it took time.
- 10:19Speaker 3: And not putting pressure on it, I think is the
- 10:21Speaker 3: best advice I could give and the best insight that
- 10:24Speaker 3: you're sharing.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Yeah. I also think it's cool that you said, like
- 10:29Speaker 4: Jess is being intentional about wanting to encourage, you know,
- 10:32Speaker 4: women to become moms, because that literally anytime I talk
- 10:35Speaker 4: to her, text her, see her. That's what I feel.
- 10:40Speaker 4: And it's really cool to see you be a dad.
- 10:42Speaker 4: I've only seen you twice now in that role, but
- 10:44Speaker 4: I remember the first time I came over. I don't
- 10:46Speaker 4: know if when he was I can't remember if she
- 10:48Speaker 4: was fourteen days old or twenty days old, but she
- 10:50Speaker 4: was very, very small, and you took her out of
- 10:53Speaker 4: Jess's arms and you were changing her and you're like,
- 10:56Speaker 4: is that my daughter?
- 10:56Speaker 5: It was so sweet. It's really cool to see you
- 10:59Speaker 5: both be parents.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a weird change in life, but it's an
- 11:03Speaker 3: exciting change. But it is hard, and it's a really
- 11:07Speaker 3: weird season where you are prepping and planning and trying
- 11:12Speaker 3: to do all these things to make, you know, to
- 11:14Speaker 3: bring something new into this world. And I would just
- 11:17Speaker 3: say this, I don't you're not asking for advice, but
- 11:20Speaker 3: it's just like, yeah, don't put pressure on it, because here's.
- 11:22Speaker 2: The truth to it.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Too, the dirty truth or the good truth. The more pressure,
- 11:25Speaker 3: the hearter, the whole thing becomes. That's when things get
- 11:28Speaker 3: really weird, is when it's all pressure packed and you're
- 11:31Speaker 3: like perform.
- 11:33Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, it's like friends with Chandler and Monica.
- 11:36Speaker 5: You know, that's what I want to avoid.
- 11:40Speaker 3: You know, as we close up here, I'm gonna make
- 11:43Speaker 3: a complete pivot away from the family and from the move.
- 11:48Speaker 3: We're gonna we're gonna finish talking about this show that
- 11:50Speaker 3: we were both a part of. There's been some big
- 11:53Speaker 3: changes with the show as of recent and almost Famous
- 11:56Speaker 3: podcast if you listen to the feed, there's a section
- 12:00Speaker 3: called Infamous. Now an there's these episodes called Infamous that
- 12:03Speaker 3: are highlighting these stories that are very iconic within the
- 12:06Speaker 3: Bachelor franchise, and we're getting more of the behind the
- 12:10Speaker 3: scenes of what exactly happened in these moments. Now, let's
- 12:14Speaker 3: do a little infamous here for just a few minutes.
- 12:18Speaker 3: The productions team that we knew, the editors that we knew,
- 12:22Speaker 3: the camera crew that we knew, the audio that we
- 12:23Speaker 3: knew are pretty much gone at this point. There's a
- 12:26Speaker 3: few remaining. And so if you were hired on as
- 12:29Speaker 3: the EP of the Bachelor franchise tomorrow. What would be
- 12:34Speaker 3: your insight to the team on what needs to happen
- 12:37Speaker 3: to make this show maybe what it was, or to
- 12:40Speaker 3: bring it back to relevancy in the future.
- 12:45Speaker 5: Okay, that's a really good question.
- 12:46Speaker 4: My heart is racing because Dean and I have both
- 12:48Speaker 4: been in many infamous headlines.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Where is it going with this?
- 12:53Speaker 3: Doing any of them? I just refuse to read them
- 12:56Speaker 3: if I see it, or saying that not for are.
- 12:58Speaker 5: We really doing this?
- 12:59Speaker 4: Last a couple of minutes of wow, uh gosh, It
- 13:05Speaker 4: just it does need to be more relevant because there's
- 13:07Speaker 4: way too much competition out there, and I think the
- 13:11Speaker 4: biggest thing, like I would love to get back to
- 13:13Speaker 4: like old school your season, JoJo's season, you know, like
- 13:16Speaker 4: those were prime days, but the contestants are so guarded
- 13:20Speaker 4: and they're so cautious of like looking bad or not
- 13:25Speaker 4: getting enough followers. I personally think that's a huge, huge hump,
- 13:29Speaker 4: and I don't know how.
- 13:30Speaker 5: To overcome that. So I don't really think I have
- 13:33Speaker 5: an answer.
- 13:34Speaker 4: I think we just need to get rid of it
- 13:35Speaker 4: for a few seasons and come back and revamp.
- 13:37Speaker 2: That's insight right there.
- 13:39Speaker 3: If you're hired on the as the EP, you'd say, Hey,
- 13:42Speaker 3: I'm firing myself and everybody else. We're gonna take a
- 13:47Speaker 3: break in three years. We'll hope this thing comes back
- 13:50Speaker 3: in three years.
- 13:51Speaker 2: We'll see it then, and we hope people watch. That's
- 13:53Speaker 2: the insight. I like it. I think it's a great move.
- 13:55Speaker 3: I think people would be so ecstatic if you like
- 13:58Speaker 3: American idol over again, take a few years off, come
- 14:01Speaker 3: back with the old host and your rock and roll Kaylin.
- 14:06Speaker 3: As we close here, is there anything about your life,
- 14:09Speaker 3: your life with Dean? I don't know these infamous headlines,
- 14:13Speaker 3: that's not what I would put you in a position
- 14:15Speaker 3: to have to answer to.
- 14:16Speaker 2: But I'm glad that you thought I would.
- 14:18Speaker 3: But is there anything that you would love to share
- 14:21Speaker 3: with anybody?
- 14:22Speaker 2: As we close up that I didn't ask?
- 14:25Speaker 4: No, I think you did a great job. I love
- 14:28Speaker 4: you and Jess, and I know Dean loves you and Jess.
- 14:31Speaker 4: And it's great too. You know, it's a rare thing
- 14:36Speaker 4: to like love a couple equally, you know, like the
- 14:38Speaker 4: wife loves the wife, the husband loves the husband.
- 14:40Speaker 5: So it's really great.
- 14:41Speaker 4: We love you guys, and I know Dean's really looking
- 14:43Speaker 4: forward to his golf trip with you next month.
- 14:45Speaker 2: I know he needs to get down here and meet
- 14:47Speaker 2: when he is well.
- 14:48Speaker 5: Though, that is, you won't come to Denver. It's so hard.
- 14:52Speaker 3: The guy has literally gone from traveling in a van
- 14:55Speaker 3: across the US too.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Oh v this, I'll text you this video. He's cuddling
- 15:01Speaker 4: with Carl right now. Carl is like wrapped around him
- 15:04Speaker 4: and he won't leave the couch.
- 15:05Speaker 5: So he's a good dad.
- 15:07Speaker 2: That's I mean, that's good for him, it's good for us.
- 15:09Speaker 2: We love you so much.
- 15:11Speaker 3: It means so much that you've came and visited Winnie.
- 15:15Speaker 3: You're gonna see her grow up. I could talk about
- 15:18Speaker 3: her forever, but I refuse to because nobody wants to
- 15:21Speaker 3: hear an hour long of me just talking about how
- 15:24Speaker 3: cute that little girl is. But here's the cool part,
- 15:25Speaker 3: kaylen uh. Four days ago, here's the update for anybody
- 15:30Speaker 3: listening and you. Four days ago, she started to mirror me.
- 15:34Speaker 3: So when I smile, she smiles. When I stick my
- 15:36Speaker 3: tongue out, she sticks her tongue out, and it breaks
- 15:40Speaker 3: me in two in a way that she never did before,
- 15:44Speaker 3: and that I've never had happened to me in.
- 15:46Speaker 5: My life so special, it.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Is something to behold.
- 15:51Speaker 5: So she do it to Jess, you or just you.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Jess as well, she'll do it to anybody you can.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Just wait, you come here, you stick out your tongue
- 15:57Speaker 3: and she starts giggling and she'll do it.
- 15:59Speaker 5: Beat so excited.
- 16:00Speaker 3: It's something. Caylen, thanks for jumping on with us tonight,
- 16:04Speaker 3: and we appreciate you. Best of luck and everything, and
- 16:07Speaker 3: I can't wait to see you soon.
- 16:09Speaker 5: Thank you so soon.
- 16:10Speaker 3: With that, this is the Almost Famous podcast we had
- 16:12Speaker 3: Kaylin here tonight. Until next time I've been Ben, We'll
- 16:15Speaker 3: talk to you soon.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Everybody follow the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcasts
