- 0:03Speaker 1: Good next
- 0:05Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:08Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning and as
- 0:11Speaker 1: of last night, we've officially wrapped up our NDP ticket giveaway.
- 0:15Speaker 1: That means 3 more days to a long weekend here
- 0:18Speaker 1: in Singapore, the National Day weekend. Yeah, it's going to
- 0:20Speaker 1: be fantastic. So we're here to give you the energy
- 0:22Speaker 1: you need to survive the week and countdown with you.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Good morning and stay with us. 1 hit music station.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Not literally the weekend that is happening in a few days,
- 0:33Speaker 1: but the weekend live here in Singapore, month of October actually. Actually,
- 0:38Speaker 1: I would not be surprised if people are counting down
- 0:41Speaker 1: to two different types of weekends. The concert, October 2nd,
- 0:44Speaker 1: October 3rd, and the long weekend, and the long weekend.
- 0:48Speaker 1: So whenever we play a weekend song here on 987,
- 0:52Speaker 1: I'll always check Ticketmaster.sg to see how his ticket sales
- 0:55Speaker 1: are doing. Yeah, it is safe to say.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Both nights, it's almost sold out unless you really want
- 1:00Speaker 1: to sit at the corner. Oh, like those, uh, what
- 1:03Speaker 1: do they call that nosebleed seats, is it like in sports,
- 1:06Speaker 1: in sporting terms? I mean, nosebleeds, bleachers, but for this
- 1:11Speaker 1: one is really the corner of the stage. So he
- 1:14Speaker 1: has the little cross section of the stage, right? Only
- 1:17Speaker 1: if he goes forward, then you can see him. If
- 1:20Speaker 1: he stays on the main stage, you might have to
- 1:21Speaker 1: strain your neck a little bit.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It's like a, it's like when I go to church
- 1:25Speaker 1: on Sundays, and then sometimes we end up getting the
- 1:29Speaker 1: seat that's specifically this row that's behind this really huge pillar.
- 1:34Speaker 1: So I can't see anything that's going on like up there.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Something like that. And then the priest also cannot see
- 1:40Speaker 1: me sleeping, so it's OK.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I'm kidding. I don't always sleep. I don't always sleep.
- 1:46Speaker 1: You don't want to be sleeping at a concert, la.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I mean, I won't be. What a waste of money.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Probably too, yeah, exactly. Like go there, go to church.
- 1:55Speaker 1: It's free. Hey, but you know what I realized after
- 1:58Speaker 1: National Day parade, we got loads of happenings. Malone in town.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I mean, the whole F1 season is coming, so naturally
- 2:06Speaker 1: this is how it's like, and then Big Bang. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 2:09Speaker 1: and BTS.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Not forgetting. Sorry, I was in the midst of catching
- 2:12Speaker 1: Joakim up on something, um, personal, and it was just
- 2:15Speaker 1: getting funny. So I mean, it's one of those stories
- 2:20Speaker 1: where your girlfriends or your fellow bros will sit you
- 2:23Speaker 1: down for a while and give you the circle line
- 2:26Speaker 1: station format. No, I'm, hey, I'm giving you a very no.
- 2:30Speaker 1: When I say circle line station format summarize it really
- 2:33Speaker 1: has a lot of detail in it, and it's a
- 2:36Speaker 1: very important journey.
- 2:37Speaker 1: To go one big round, then we get to the
- 2:39Speaker 1: end point. Hold on, but I'm already giving you like
- 2:42Speaker 1: the express version. Oh really? This is the express version, dude.
- 2:45Speaker 1: That didn't even take. It was while while Martin Garrix's
- 2:50Speaker 1: song was playing. OK, is only 2 minutes and 30 seconds. OK,
- 2:54Speaker 1: I've sat longer than that. Yes. So be grateful. OK.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I'm very grateful. One day when I come to work
- 3:00Speaker 1: and I give you only one-liners, you will regret it
- 3:03Speaker 1: and you'll be very sad.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Actually, that's true and that is exactly what my mom
- 3:09Speaker 1: says as well. What do you mean? Whenever my mom
- 3:11Speaker 1: tells me whatever happens for her day or something that
- 3:14Speaker 1: happens in her life, right, I always tell her, Mom,
- 3:17Speaker 1: don't take circle line, go north-south line, top to bottom. Exactly.
- 3:22Speaker 1: But she will still give me as much detail as
- 3:25Speaker 1: she wants to because sometimes the details matter.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I cannot just give you like the, you know, the
- 3:31Speaker 1: straight up, uh, shortcut. And then with my mom, I
- 3:34Speaker 1: always have this habit, I guess what happens in the end?
- 3:37Speaker 1: I'll give her my opinion. I'm actually right, but she
- 3:40Speaker 1: wants to tell the story. Yes, so can I just
- 3:44Speaker 1: I feel like we have to open up phone lines
- 3:45Speaker 1: at some point for this, but um, OK, sometimes the
- 3:48Speaker 1: point is not whether you are right or not. No
- 3:50Speaker 1: one cares if you're right. In fact, you are irrelevant
- 3:53Speaker 1: in this conversation. What we want to do as partners
- 3:57Speaker 1: or as or as your mom, parents or family members
- 4:01Speaker 1: or whatever, we just want to tell you something. Like
- 4:04Speaker 1: we just want to communicate it to you or get
- 4:05Speaker 1: it off our chest. I don't need the like the.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Solution. No, I don't need like to know whether you're right. Yeah, fine, right?
- 4:12Speaker 1: You tell your mom this, she will agree with me, OK,
- 4:14Speaker 1: but I have to say between my mom and you,
- 4:17Speaker 1: your story is more interesting, more spicy, right? spicy for
- 4:21Speaker 1: my mom is, it can be Irene do.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Auntie Irene, Auntie Maureen, all the k. About to head
- 4:32Speaker 1: to the phone lines right now over at 669-11987. Hello,
- 4:37Speaker 1: good morning.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Hi, my
- 4:38Speaker 2: name is Natalie. I'm a very big fan of 987.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I've been listening for a very long time.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Oh, thank you so much. So Natalie, tell us which
- 4:46Speaker 1: school are you from?
- 4:47Speaker 2: I'm
- 4:47Speaker 2: from CHIJ Secondary.
- 4:50Speaker 1: OK, Natalie, when you say you've been tuned in to
- 4:52Speaker 1: us for a very long time, right? How long is
- 4:55Speaker 2: long? A few years already.
- 4:57Speaker 1: OK, really? OK, well, we, we feel ancient right now.
- 5:01Speaker 1: We really do. Anyway, Natalie, tell us more about your
- 5:04Speaker 1: school and what you love about it.
- 5:06Speaker 2: My school
- 5:06Speaker 2: has so many fun celebrations, like this thing called IJ Fiesta.
- 5:11Speaker 2: It's kind of like a school carnival that we, that
- 5:13Speaker 2: we kind of have like.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Every end of the first term and we, so for
- 5:19Speaker 2: National Day, we are having some dance parties in the
- 5:23Speaker 2: school and we get to wear our red color shirts.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Oh, that's nice. So are you dancing as well,
- 5:27Speaker 2: Natalie? Uh,
- 5:28Speaker 2: no, but I'll probably dance with the crowd. OK,
- 5:31Speaker 1: OK, so it's like a concert situation. It's a rave. Yeah,
- 5:34Speaker 1: sounds cute. OK. What song can we get you today
- 5:38Speaker 1: and what's your dedication?
- 5:39Speaker 1: Who is it going out to?
- 5:40Speaker 2: I think I want to play this for all Singaporeans,
- 5:43Speaker 2: like dedication to all Singaporeans on Home by Kate Chan,
- 5:47Speaker 2: my friends and my family and all the other Singaporeans
- 5:50Speaker 2: that
- 5:50Speaker 2: love this song.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Go, it's coming up for you right now. You enjoy
- 5:54Speaker 1: it and have a great day at school, OK? OK,
- 5:56Speaker 1: thank you, Natalie. Bye bye. Bye. OK, so we got
- 6:00Speaker 1: some drama in the world of CDC vouchers.
- 6:04Speaker 1: It should be pretty straightforward for most of us, right?
- 6:07Speaker 1: You have a registered address. So for example, you and
- 6:10Speaker 1: your mom will have to share the CDC vouchers, right?
- 6:12Speaker 1: So I don't know how you guys split it, but
- 6:14Speaker 1: I'm sure you find your ways to, maybe you use
- 6:17Speaker 1: the regular one and she uses the supermarket one to
- 6:20Speaker 1: stock up your house. Sorry to sound disappointed or or what,
- 6:25Speaker 1: but CDC vouchers drama. Yeah. No, but when I tell
- 6:28Speaker 1: you what happened, um,
- 6:30Speaker 1: You, you might understand why this lady is very concerned, OK? So,
- 6:35Speaker 1: like I mentioned earlier, your CDC vouchers are directly linked
- 6:38Speaker 1: to your registered address, right? So you have to have a,
- 6:41Speaker 1: for example, if 3 people share one address, then the
- 6:44Speaker 1: whole household will share those CDC vouchers. If you happen
- 6:47Speaker 1: to live alone, you get to spend $200 worth of vouchers,
- 6:52Speaker 1: or however much it has been assigned that particular time.
- 6:55Speaker 1: For this, um, but this lady, she's in her 50s
- 6:58Speaker 1: and I'm assuming one day she was, uh, deciding to
- 7:01Speaker 1: go get some supermarket shopping done.
- 7:04Speaker 1: She realized that, eh, what happened to my vouchers? And
- 7:07Speaker 1: she claims that the CDC vouchers were redeemed by the
- 7:11Speaker 1: previous homeowner that didn't change his address. So, yeah, I know.
- 7:19Speaker 1: So I wonder what went on there because um maybe,
- 7:22Speaker 1: you know, it's hard for the system to detect, right?
- 7:24Speaker 1: Like they don't know what the living arrangements are. So
- 7:27Speaker 1: for example, if the previous person didn't change the address,
- 7:30Speaker 1: one might assume like, oh, OK.
- 7:31Speaker 1: There's 2 or 3 people living in the same household.
- 7:33Speaker 1: It doesn't seem that red flaggy, you know, but she
- 7:36Speaker 1: decided to make a police report because she said she
- 7:39Speaker 1: was able to redeem her own vouchers for the past
- 7:41Speaker 1: few years, but it seems like maybe the previous homeowner
- 7:45Speaker 1: might have gotten away with it.
- 7:46Speaker 1: And uh just didn't update his address at all for
- 7:50Speaker 1: dodgy reasons because she's also been getting some other like
- 7:55Speaker 1: sorts of letters and uh things like debt collection and
- 7:59Speaker 1: all that and she's now worried for her safety. So
- 8:01Speaker 1: I think the follow up to this is she contacted
- 8:04Speaker 1: our friends over at the ICC. She made a police
- 8:06Speaker 1: report also and she was informed that the man has
- 8:09Speaker 1: actually changed the address already and the ruling is apparently
- 8:13Speaker 1: if you move somewhere.
- 8:15Speaker 1: you have 28 days to report a change of your
- 8:18Speaker 1: residential address. But the thing is, he was still able
- 8:22Speaker 1: to redeem the vouchers. So I think, so where's the
- 8:25Speaker 1: loop what's the loophole here in time or didn't do
- 8:27Speaker 1: it within 28 days. Yeah, so, well, that's the, that's
- 8:31Speaker 1: the best explanation, right? Like that there was a bit
- 8:33Speaker 1: of an overlap. However, the fact that he realized, hey,
- 8:37Speaker 1: I can still claim, he go and claim it anyway,
- 8:40Speaker 1: knowing that he no longer lives there. I mean, come
- 8:42Speaker 1: on lah, bro.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I wonder whether some laws have been breached here or broken.
- 8:46Speaker 1: I'm sure, I think so. I'm sure it is. I
- 8:48Speaker 1: think so. Either that or he has to somehow pay
- 8:50Speaker 1: her back or something. Yeah, but the legitimate concern now is, uh,
- 8:54Speaker 1: if for example, the previous homeowner had any dodgy dealings
- 8:57Speaker 1: or whatsoever that's a scary one. Yeah. Yeah, that's what
- 8:59Speaker 1: the lady is right. So hopefully she's all OK. Yeah, exactly.
- 9:03Speaker 1: So fingers crossed for her and hopefully this doesn't happen
- 9:05Speaker 1: to anyone else. Just be very vigilant, I guess, and
- 9:08Speaker 1: double check. If you think that something's amiss, you might
- 9:11Speaker 1: be right.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Oh, this could have been a reminder to go and
- 9:13Speaker 1: redeem your CDC vouchers and enjoy it. Just used it yesterday. Oh,
- 9:16Speaker 1: well done. Um, so I, I feel quite, um, wealthy
- 9:19Speaker 1: when I walk into the hawker center with my CDC vouchers. Yeah,
- 9:25Speaker 1: but yeah, for everyone else here in Singapore, this could
- 9:26Speaker 1: really come in handy. We know, we know 100%. Alrighty,
- 9:30Speaker 1: so with regard to drink driving here in Singapore, something
- 9:34Speaker 1: that I feel we are reading a lot of when
- 9:38Speaker 1: it comes to the cases that happened in our country.
- 9:40Speaker 1: So there are plans to lower the legal alcohol limits
- 9:47Speaker 1: proven and backed by science and all that. So if
- 9:50Speaker 1: the new rule comes into play, if you drink, don't drive. Yeah, exactly. That,
- 9:55Speaker 1: that's the common slogan that we know, right? Actually, I'm
- 9:58Speaker 1: very curious to know as a, as a petite person
- 10:01Speaker 1: versus someone of your size and height, OK.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Does it, does it differ if let's say both of
- 10:08Speaker 1: us had one glass of wine, like one single glass
- 10:10Speaker 1: of wine? Does it differ? Isn't it not relevant to
- 10:14Speaker 1: your liver functions that's why I'm curious because, you know,
- 10:17Speaker 1: they said it's backed by science. I also want to
- 10:19Speaker 1: know the science behind like how different people process alcohol
- 10:23Speaker 1: differently because I believe that plays a part as well,
- 10:25Speaker 1: how fast you break down your alcohol, your drink, I'm
- 10:28Speaker 1: not trying.
- 10:31Speaker 1: with my car. No, no, no, no, no, don't drive.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Don't drive. We just drink one glass of wine and
- 10:37Speaker 1: see who. No, but how do we measure? It's, it's
- 10:40Speaker 1: not about see who, who's gonna be drunk after one
- 10:43Speaker 1: glass of wine. You never know. Neither, neither one of
- 10:45Speaker 1: us will be though. That's for sure. You never know.
- 10:47Speaker 1: But again, don't take that risk. Don't exactly that. And
- 10:52Speaker 1: there's this viral video now on TikTok about how they
- 10:55Speaker 1: should change the slogan.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Don't drink and drive, but no, if you drive, don't drink. Yeah,
- 11:00Speaker 1: it's like the, it's like the don't love your job,
- 11:02Speaker 1: your lover.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Remember that one? To be honest, if you drive, don't drink.
- 11:08Speaker 1: That slogan has been around as well. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I think different companies or different alcohol brands have used
- 11:13Speaker 1: that slogan before to try and give a change to
- 11:16Speaker 1: if you don't drive. Yeah. Well, OK, so here's my,
- 11:20Speaker 1: my solution is because sometimes, sometimes it's difficult because I
- 11:24Speaker 1: might be out the whole day, then I meet my
- 11:26Speaker 1: friends for a drink, for dinner, then it becomes drinks, right? Obviously,
- 11:30Speaker 1: I also feel like unwinding. I want to have it
- 11:32Speaker 1: with them.
- 11:32Speaker 1: If I do decide to eventually have a drink, I'll
- 11:35Speaker 1: have my valet number on standby. That, that's, that's my
- 11:38Speaker 1: backup plan. You just gave me a very good business
- 11:41Speaker 1: idea and a slogan as well. Like I should open
- 11:44Speaker 1: a valet service. My slogan is alcohol question mark. Make
- 11:47Speaker 1: the call. Thank you. Wait, wait, can I tell you
- 11:50Speaker 1: the one that I, I call? OK, OK, hold on,
- 11:52Speaker 1: I give you that slogan. I remember it. It, it
- 11:55Speaker 1: cracked me up as well. The Valetervices, alcohol, make the call.
- 12:02Speaker 1: You see, it catches on. But Joe, you can't, I don't,
- 12:06Speaker 1: I will not trust you with my car. So bad. OK,
- 12:10Speaker 1: it says here, hold on, I'm opening up their profile picture. Oh,
- 12:14Speaker 1: it's not very exciting. You drink, we drive.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I mean, it's straight to the point at least straight
- 12:19Speaker 1: to the point. It still gets its point across. They
- 12:23Speaker 1: got promotion now so not bad. So I always keep
- 12:25Speaker 1: them on standby just in case. Frankly, the, the cost
- 12:28Speaker 1: of like hiring a valet could be the cost of
- 12:31Speaker 1: you getting a grab bag at midnight. You are for real. Yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 1: so just, just do that with the surge and all
- 12:36Speaker 1: that have one on standby. So I believe on social.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Media in the news today, all you read about could
- 12:43Speaker 1: be about Maju Forest or Gilman Barracks and what's going
- 12:47Speaker 1: to happen to those areas. I mean, OK, I am
- 12:49Speaker 1: actually glad that Singaporeans are so invested in this, to
- 12:52Speaker 1: be honest. I, I'm enjoying the commentary online. OK, so
- 12:56Speaker 1: I must say in parliament yesterday, very eventful, yeah, um,
- 13:00Speaker 1: but
- 13:01Speaker 1: Long story short is and in my personal opinion, enjoy
- 13:05Speaker 1: it while it lasts, because it will still go under redevelopment,
- 13:11Speaker 1: but the question now is how much of the forest
- 13:15Speaker 1: do they clear? That's still up in the balance, and
- 13:18Speaker 1: it's up to us now for the public to really
- 13:20Speaker 1: send in our opinions.
- 13:23Speaker 1: And our expert takes on it or really how we
- 13:25Speaker 1: feel about Maju Forest or Gilman Barracks. So what did
- 13:28Speaker 1: they say about Gilman Barracks? What's the latest update for
- 13:30Speaker 1: that one? Um, I mean, basically watching the highlights of
- 13:34Speaker 1: whatever happened yesterday in Parliament, it was more or less
- 13:37Speaker 1: MPs putting forward questions about, oh, why can't we just
- 13:41Speaker 1: build it over here or over there, and most of
- 13:44Speaker 1: these questions.
- 13:46Speaker 1: I could say there was a rebuttal and it really
- 13:49Speaker 1: sounds like no, we've decided on Maju Forest and Gilman Barracks,
- 13:53Speaker 1: but now we are gonna work on how much of
- 13:56Speaker 1: it to clear. That's still not confirmed, but the redevelopment
- 13:59Speaker 1: will happen. And did they say what they're redeveloping it
- 14:02Speaker 1: to property or houses and all that.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I mean, it's a shame. OK, but here's my question, OK.
- 14:08Speaker 1: So places like Gilman Barracks remind me of Dempsey, for example.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Now if they were to ever touch Dempsey, I'd be
- 14:13Speaker 1: very upset. I don't think they will. There's too much
- 14:16Speaker 1: that has been developed there already. But the thing is
- 14:19Speaker 1: for Gilman Barracks.
- 14:22Speaker 1: If let's say they don't decide not to reclaim it
- 14:25Speaker 1: and like do their own projects and stuff, will, will
- 14:28Speaker 1: there be additional changes made to help support the businesses there?
- 14:33Speaker 1: Because I'm not gonna lie, it can be quite quiet sometimes.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Especially those areas where it's like weekdays, maybe people don't go. Weekends, OK,
- 14:40Speaker 1: no problem. I think people go drink, have dinner and
- 14:42Speaker 1: all that, but how do they survive?
- 14:44Speaker 1: Like on a day to day basis, like, will you
- 14:46Speaker 1: go and support them? Because I know they have over
- 14:49Speaker 1: there in Tropicana as well, but Gilman Barracks as a whole,
- 14:53Speaker 1: I don't know, but it can be quite quiet at
- 14:56Speaker 1: times at Gilman Barracks. I will, except for the people
- 14:59Speaker 1: that kind of work around the area, they will patronize
- 15:01Speaker 1: the the the shops there. But you also can't eat
- 15:04Speaker 1: the same thing every day, what, you know, the Labrador.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Alexandria area. So if you really want your voices heard,
- 15:11Speaker 1: there could be an extension of public feedback. You can
- 15:15Speaker 1: log on to form.gov.sg and look for the feedback form
- 15:20Speaker 1: for EIA at Sunset Way and just fill in your
- 15:23Speaker 1: opinions and hopefully they listen. Will they, will they? I
- 15:27Speaker 1: mean if thousands of people do it.
- 15:30Speaker 1: They, they have to listen and take in our opinions
- 15:32Speaker 1: and maybe decide, OK, we won't clear so much, we'll
- 15:36Speaker 1: just clear a bit first. I think the strategy is
- 15:38Speaker 1: to alternative suggestion. Yeah, yeah, so maybe that might help
- 15:45Speaker 1: it's nice to see.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Of environment-friendly groups here in Singapore banding together. That's why
- 15:51Speaker 1: I said I, I'm liking the conversations online posts and
- 15:53Speaker 1: all that. So this upcoming story I'm going to open
- 15:57Speaker 1: up phone lines for, I haven't told Joakim just yet, OK.
- 15:59Speaker 1: It just happened last night. Can you stop videoing me?
- 16:04Speaker 1: Enough. The reason why I'm, I have a face mask on.
- 16:11Speaker 1: What's a, sorry, I'm not promoting any brand or anything,
- 16:14Speaker 1: but this is the mask known for like you have
- 16:16Speaker 1: to leave it on for like 2 hours at least.
- 16:19Speaker 1: So
- 16:21Speaker 1: By the time I end, we end the show is done,
- 16:23Speaker 1: because I have a photoshoot later. I need to put
- 16:24Speaker 1: on the mask. I mean, this is the worst I've seen,
- 16:26Speaker 1: but it's not, it's not, yeah. Tell us your story.
- 16:29Speaker 1: But if it was a certain month, you might be
- 16:30Speaker 1: a bit scared lah, which is coming up, yeah. I'll
- 16:33Speaker 1: tell you in just a bit, but, uh, this has
- 16:35Speaker 1: got to do with, with being in a public space
- 16:40Speaker 1: and wondering if I should tell the waitress or tell
- 16:45Speaker 1: this person or not, OK.
- 16:47Speaker 1: It just happened last night, so I haven't even told
- 16:49Speaker 1: you this story yet. Find out more in just a
- 16:51Speaker 1: little bit and in exchange, you might walk away with
- 16:53Speaker 1: a lovely price. Dyson. Yes, I'm not wrong, special for
- 17:00Speaker 1: our nation's birthday. It's worth almost $150. Very nice. Your
- 17:04Speaker 1: chance coming up next. So early on, I asked you, um,
- 17:07Speaker 1: and I wanted you to answer very honestly, do you
- 17:10Speaker 1: think personally think that when
- 17:11Speaker 1: We go out and have meals or have drinks or whatever, right?
- 17:14Speaker 1: Are we very loud when we're like talking and yapping
- 17:18Speaker 1: and laughing and catching up? OK, if you, me, Justin,
- 17:22Speaker 1: and Vernon of the Muttons and our friend Sam, if
- 17:26Speaker 1: we are catching up, I would highly recommend that we
- 17:29Speaker 1: take the corner table, the quiet corner room, because we
- 17:32Speaker 1: could be quite loud and our laughter gets a bit
- 17:34Speaker 1: out of hand sometimes, but if it's.
- 17:36Speaker 1: You and me, yeah, are we, are we loud? No,
- 17:40Speaker 1: I don't think we are. I feel some shade coming here. No, no,
- 17:44Speaker 1: because I, I'm the kind of person that, OK, for example,
- 17:48Speaker 1: on a date night, right, or if I'm catching up
- 17:50Speaker 1: with friends and they put me in the middle of
- 17:52Speaker 1: a table with two people next to me, yeah, I
- 17:55Speaker 1: don't like it because you're an introvert, no, it also kills,
- 17:59Speaker 1: it also kills the convo and to be honest.
- 18:01Speaker 1: To be honest with you, we are so close to
- 18:03Speaker 1: the point where I can understand what the couple on
- 18:05Speaker 1: my left are saying, people on the right are saying.
- 18:08Speaker 1: So yeah, I try my best to keep it as
- 18:10Speaker 1: quiet as possible. I mean, but you know, drinks, you
- 18:13Speaker 1: might get kind of like loud and boisterous. I don't know. OK,
- 18:17Speaker 1: Jeremy thinks that I'm very loud. I agree. He thinks
- 18:19Speaker 1: that I'm loud and he's like, how can so much
- 18:21Speaker 1: noise come from such a small person? You were born
- 18:23Speaker 1: with a loudspeaker inside your diaphragm.
- 18:27Speaker 1: OK, thank you for the shade. Um, I was a
- 18:30Speaker 1: very quiet kid, just FYI, OK, like I was really quiet.
- 18:34Speaker 1: So you're making up for lost time. Maybe, yeah. So, um,
- 18:37Speaker 1: when we go out sometimes and you know, I'm just
- 18:40Speaker 1: in the moment and talking and laughing and like, or
- 18:42Speaker 1: I'm telling you a story that I'm very passionate about,
- 18:45Speaker 1: sometimes Jeremy will stop me and he'd be like, can
- 18:47Speaker 1: you use your inside voice?
- 18:49Speaker 1: Use your inside voice. She's like, use your inside voice
- 18:52Speaker 1: because maybe we're at a restaurant or something. I mean,
- 18:55Speaker 1: the last we had last Thursday, thank you very much
- 18:58Speaker 1: for burns, by the way, you're welcome. I mean, the
- 19:00Speaker 1: restaurant was quite empty, so I couldn't judge, and the
- 19:03Speaker 1: moment that people came in, they were noisy. Yeah, exactly.
- 19:07Speaker 1: So they drowned out our voices. Yeah, so that's the thing,
- 19:10Speaker 1: when we, when it started to fill up, right?
- 19:12Speaker 1: And every table was pretty much occupied and the way
- 19:15Speaker 1: that the layout is, our voices don't bounce off the walls.
- 19:19Speaker 1: You know what I mean, right? Like it didn't feel
- 19:21Speaker 1: that way at least. However, why was this question asked
- 19:24Speaker 1: to me this morning? Because yesterday, or rather last night,
- 19:28Speaker 1: and it's not me, I'm not the one that made
- 19:30Speaker 1: noise again.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Um, I found my match. OK, I've, I've met my
- 19:34Speaker 1: match in terms of noise levels. So, I went to,
- 19:38Speaker 1: to visit a brand new Izakaya around his, his place,
- 19:42Speaker 1: and I've been curious about it because I was like, oh,
- 19:44Speaker 1: it looks quite legit, you know. Then when we peeked inside, oh,
- 19:46Speaker 1: actually quite a lot of people at about 6:45, 7, thereabouts,
- 19:50Speaker 1: which is an early-ish work crowd, I would assume. Near
- 19:54Speaker 1: the Robertson Key area, yeah. So there's a new one there.
- 19:57Speaker 1: And uh it seems like the staff, they're also Japanese.
- 20:01Speaker 1: So I was like, OK, it looks legit. They got
- 20:03Speaker 1: promotional offers and all that. Why not, let's just go
- 20:05Speaker 1: try it, right? Yeah. So then you sit down. Um, overall,
- 20:10Speaker 1: I wouldn't say that it was super full, maybe it
- 20:13Speaker 1: was 50 to 60% full at the time. Um, good
- 20:16Speaker 1: for them since they're still brand new. And we were,
- 20:19Speaker 1: we were sat next to this table of 3 people, OK.
- 20:24Speaker 1: So when we sat down, I was like, OK, still
- 20:26Speaker 1: quite chill, you know, I ordered a simple beer and
- 20:28Speaker 1: some skewers and you know, like dishes and stuff like that.
- 20:31Speaker 1: As the night progressed, one of the guys at that table, um,
- 20:36Speaker 1: who I think might be someone important at that table,
- 20:40Speaker 1: I think he might be the boss, gathering from the
- 20:43Speaker 1: conversation that I was listening to, which was very loud.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Um, he had the loudest laughter I've ever heard in
- 20:51Speaker 1: my life, like in my life. Was it like rich people?
- 20:55Speaker 1: It was a little bit, a little bit of that,
- 20:58Speaker 1: the rich laugh, but also the bad guy villain kind
- 21:02Speaker 1: of laugh. So it was a bit like this, I
- 21:03Speaker 1: need to stand up for this. Hold on, wait.
- 21:07Speaker 1: And it's like he's laughing from his diaphragm all the time.
- 21:10Speaker 1: He's like, wow.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Ah wow this is Santa Claus meets Vincent Price, who
- 21:24Speaker 1: did Michael Jackson's thriller. Yeah, yeah, it was a little
- 21:26Speaker 1: bit like that. So every time he laughed, which was
- 21:29Speaker 1: very often, and the more like highballs they had, the
- 21:32Speaker 1: louder his laughter became and um the more often it happened.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Like Jeremy and I will literally look at each other
- 21:38Speaker 1: and try not to laugh because I, I told him
- 21:41Speaker 1: I cannot hear my own thoughts at this point.
- 21:44Speaker 1: You know, I swear. At this point, if it's happening frequently,
- 21:49Speaker 1: I would join in the laughter. No, I would look
- 21:51Speaker 1: around and like, a good time? Yeah, exactly. I would
- 21:55Speaker 1: join in. I swear I'm not even joking.
- 22:03Speaker 1: After we left the restaurant.
- 22:05Speaker 1: After we left the restaurant, um, he was saying, oh,
- 22:08Speaker 1: no wonder that there was another couple that came in like, uh,
- 22:11Speaker 1: after us. They sat quite far away at another table,
- 22:15Speaker 1: and he was jokingly saying, maybe that's the reason why the,
- 22:18Speaker 1: the waitress actually gestured us to sit at the other
- 22:21Speaker 1: end instead because those three have been there for quite
- 22:23Speaker 1: some time. Then I was like, oh, maybe, maybe, but
- 22:27Speaker 1: it wouldn't have made a difference. His laughter is so booming.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I tell you, people from Boon Lay can hear it.
- 22:32Speaker 1: What were you gonna tell the waitress? I wasn't, honestly,
- 22:36Speaker 1: I didn't want to be a buzz and, and actually
- 22:38Speaker 1: I didn't mind it because I have some self-awareness that
- 22:41Speaker 1: I'm quite loud sometimes. So I didn't say anything, but
- 22:44Speaker 1: I just wonder whether anyone will say something about it.
- 22:47Speaker 1: For example, let's say if you're at a restaurant, OK,
- 22:50Speaker 1: or maybe it depends what restaurant you're at. If you're
- 22:52Speaker 1: in a public space or a restaurant and someone at
- 22:54Speaker 1: the next table is making too much of a scene
- 22:57Speaker 1: or causing a ruckus or so loud until you cannot.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Let me hear your own conversations. Would you tell the
- 23:04Speaker 1: waitress or the waiter or the restaurant manager about it?
- 23:08Speaker 1: Or would you tell them nicely like, hey guys, like,
- 23:10Speaker 1: you know, we're also trying to catch up. Do you mind, uh,
- 23:12Speaker 1: lowering your volume? Would you say that, or would you
- 23:14Speaker 1: just ignore it and then leave for the next place?
- 23:15Speaker 1: For example, if I'm at Sushi Samba, OK, OK, where
- 23:19Speaker 1: there'll be the dancers, the drummer and all that, and
- 23:22Speaker 1: it's a bit of a catch up, good vibe kind
- 23:26Speaker 1: of night also can, yes.
- 23:27Speaker 1: You must be very aware there'll be music and dance
- 23:30Speaker 1: and all that loud, yeah, but if I'm at, um,
- 23:32Speaker 1: very like, OK, Oakase restaurant for example, where it's the
- 23:36Speaker 1: chef who's hosting you and all that, yeah, I would
- 23:39Speaker 1: have a convo but not at maximum volume. Yeah, but
- 23:41Speaker 1: some people don't have the awareness, you know, they just
- 23:43Speaker 1: go max volume. Yes, and there has been one occasion
- 23:48Speaker 1: where I was at an Oakase restaurant where once on
- 23:49Speaker 1: date night, and the three people.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Opposite me were very loud. But the chef, they didn't
- 23:58Speaker 1: say anything. Not the chef, but the server. The server
- 24:01Speaker 1: came to the table saying, sorry, can you turn your
- 24:04Speaker 1: volume a little bit down because you are inconveniencing your
- 24:06Speaker 1: other guests, our other guests. It was, it could be,
- 24:12Speaker 1: or maybe they took it into their own, you know,
- 24:14Speaker 1: was quite annoyed in the middle of the table, you see,
- 24:19Speaker 1: that's a time and place for everything, right?
- 24:22Speaker 1: Sometimes it's about awareness and maybe they've had one too
- 24:25Speaker 1: many sake or something to to notice. But give us
- 24:28Speaker 1: a call right now, 669-11987 or drop us a message 90050987.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Have you ever been in a situation where you're dining
- 24:36Speaker 1: out or you're enjoying a drink?
- 24:38Speaker 1: And there's a super noisy group of people next to
- 24:40Speaker 1: you or super noisy pair of people next to you,
- 24:43Speaker 1: let us know and let us know what happened as
- 24:45Speaker 1: well and if you dealt with it at all. I
- 24:48Speaker 1: love how we're going from noisy people to our prize,
- 24:51Speaker 1: the Dyson hush. OK. And you know what, it's pretty quiet.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I was just asking you about whether you've sat next
- 24:59Speaker 1: to a table that was super noisy at a restaurant
- 25:02Speaker 1: before or a bar or
- 25:04Speaker 1: Anywhere in a public space and could you take it
- 25:07Speaker 1: or did you do something about it? I mean, in
- 25:10Speaker 1: some situations I'll be very understanding if it's a bachelor
- 25:13Speaker 1: party or a bat, I'm not gonna be like, hey,
- 25:16Speaker 1: can you keep it down, you see that they're having fun, right? Yeah,
- 25:19Speaker 1: and sometimes I will join in. I'll make friends, but
- 25:22Speaker 1: I think it it depends on the context of where.
- 25:27Speaker 1: And what's the situation because I definitely have seen, been
- 25:31Speaker 1: in situations where I'm OK with this group making noise
- 25:34Speaker 1: because I can see they're having fun, but another table
- 25:37Speaker 1: couldn't deal with it, and they went and told them to,
- 25:40Speaker 1: to quieten down. I might give you a very unpopular opinion.
- 25:44Speaker 1: I feel as if if the mood is good between
- 25:46Speaker 1: the two of us, we won't mind. But if one
- 25:49Speaker 1: of us is in a bad mood or we're having
- 25:50Speaker 1: a bit of
- 25:51Speaker 1: You're irritable. Yeah, that's it. That's a problem. That's it. OK,
- 25:55Speaker 1: we're gonna go to our messages in a little bit first. Um,
- 26:00Speaker 1: I think we're gonna say hi to John first. Plenty
- 26:02Speaker 1: of times, it's like selfish people traveling on buses, trains,
- 26:06Speaker 1: or public places, blasting noise. Some elderly are really loud also. Um,
- 26:11Speaker 1: loud voices live longer, LOL. Well I encounter such situations.
- 26:14Speaker 1: I'll usually just request for the waiter to shift me
- 26:17Speaker 1: to a quieter table instead of confronting the group. Wow, OK, that's,
- 26:21Speaker 1: that's pretty considerate though. Got one more coming in from
- 26:24Speaker 1: Jasper who says, Morning, Sonia and Joakim. I remember there
- 26:27Speaker 1: was once I was drinking with my friends in a
- 26:29Speaker 1: pub where you can sing. The table next to us,
- 26:32Speaker 1: a group of 4 or 5, was playing games and
- 26:34Speaker 1: making so much noise that we couldn't even hear the singer.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Oh no.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Actually this reminds me, oh, sorry, finish first. So what
- 26:41Speaker 1: me and my friends did was we will bring our
- 26:43Speaker 1: drinks to their table and cheer with them. We do
- 26:46Speaker 1: it so often that whenever they are playing games or
- 26:48Speaker 1: making very loud noises, we would distract their thing that
- 26:51Speaker 1: was going on and eventually the noise died down. So
- 26:54Speaker 1: I guess if someone keeps coming to your table to
- 26:56Speaker 1: cheer with you, it means you're too noisy. You know
- 26:57Speaker 1: what's up. It's a sign. It's a sign. It reminds
- 27:00Speaker 1: me of this.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Um, TikTok video I saw of this girl who was
- 27:03Speaker 1: at a Jenny concert in the US and uh she
- 27:06Speaker 1: was unfortunately next to this fan, like super fan, standing
- 27:10Speaker 1: in the, the mosh pit area. This super fan was
- 27:12Speaker 1: singing at the top of her lungs, totally off key,
- 27:16Speaker 1: like completely off key. So in this girl's video, all
- 27:19Speaker 1: she picked up was that fan singing because she's right
- 27:22Speaker 1: in front, and her caption was when you can't even
- 27:25Speaker 1: hear Jenny singing.
- 27:28Speaker 1: And it was really like na na na na na
- 27:30Speaker 1: na na na na na that kind of singing. Was
- 27:35Speaker 1: she clapping off rhythm as well? I don't know, but
- 27:37Speaker 1: that's me. OK, to be, to be clear, I wasn't
- 27:40Speaker 1: the person in that video. I wasn't it. We're still
- 27:44Speaker 1: taking your calls and your messages. More of that coming
- 27:46Speaker 1: up soon. Uh, we would love to, uh, find out
- 27:48Speaker 1: from you. Have you ever sat next to someone or?
- 27:50Speaker 1: A table that was making so much noise in a
- 27:53Speaker 1: public place. Let us know this particular question based off
- 27:57Speaker 1: my experience yesterday. Quick recap in case you just joined us.
- 28:00Speaker 1: I was at Izakaya and it's a new one, so
- 28:03Speaker 1: not super full yet, maybe 50 or 60%. Food was
- 28:07Speaker 1: very good. Um, if you want to know the address,
- 28:09Speaker 1: it's actually along Mohammad Sultan. There's only one Izakaya there now, OK. Um,
- 28:13Speaker 1: so go check it out. It's right next to, it's
- 28:15Speaker 1: right next to Craftsman Coffee.
- 28:18Speaker 1: That stretch. Yeah, so it's a new, it's a new place,
- 28:21Speaker 1: next to 7-Eleven, you know, that area. Thank you. So anyway, um,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I actually sat down next to this group of three,
- 28:28Speaker 1: and this one guy had the loudest laughter I've ever
- 28:32Speaker 1: heard in my life. His voice is booming. He sounds
- 28:35Speaker 1: like he swallowed a JBL speaker.
- 28:38Speaker 1: I'm serious. He literally sounds like he swallowed a boombox
- 28:41Speaker 1: and then subconscious. He literally sounded like that, OK, and
- 28:48Speaker 1: he was like, like that kind of laughter. You actually
- 28:53Speaker 1: do a very good job imitating rich laughter. I think
- 28:56Speaker 1: more like villain laughter. He sounded like a villain, a
- 28:59Speaker 1: bit of both, yeah, there you go. So it inspired
- 29:01Speaker 1: today's question. Have you ever sat
- 29:04Speaker 1: To a table that was super noisy and what did
- 29:06Speaker 1: you do about it? Say good morning to Sarah on WhatsApp.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Hey Sonia and Jo, I was having lunch at the
- 29:12Speaker 1: restaurant on Sunday. Heard of it? Yes, over at, right?
- 29:15Speaker 1: The one with the famous soup. I'm, I think so.
- 29:18Speaker 1: I think so. There was a big table of seated
- 29:22Speaker 1: behind me with a loud toddler who wanted to be heard.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Next to me was a middle-aged gentleman, and he turned
- 29:27Speaker 1: to look at the loud toddler.
- 29:29Speaker 1: The mother of the toddler immediately asked, Yes, can I
- 29:31Speaker 1: help you? The gentleman requested the toddler not to scream
- 29:35Speaker 1: so much. The mother replied, This is a restaurant. If
- 29:38Speaker 1: you cannot take the noise, don't dine outside. I was
- 29:41Speaker 1: shocked with her reply. And when this big table of
- 29:43Speaker 1: young families left, the couple and their friends deliberately turned
- 29:46Speaker 1: to glare at this gentleman who was so baffled by
- 29:49Speaker 1: their self-entitlement. Honestly, that kind of reaction is uncalled for though.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I mean the fact that you, you think that it's OK.
- 30:03Speaker 1: The the argument, the argument is that for most restaurants
- 30:06Speaker 1: that don't have a policy where you cannot bring kids,
- 30:10Speaker 1: you know, technically you are allowed to be as as
- 30:12Speaker 1: you want to be, but it's up to your own discretion, right.
- 30:16Speaker 1: One more coming in from Melissa. Hey guys, I have
- 30:20Speaker 1: a group of about 7 girlfriends. We are really loud
- 30:24Speaker 1: whenever we are together, but more in terms of laughter
- 30:26Speaker 1: instead of talking volume. We usually meet to hang at
- 30:29Speaker 1: one another's house for dinner. On the occasions we meet outside,
- 30:32Speaker 1: we always are mindful to find a location who doesn't
- 30:34Speaker 1: mind the noise or isn't as well known yet. We've
- 30:37Speaker 1: Been to casual cafes before and have had next door
- 30:40Speaker 1: tables ask us to lower our volumes because they can't
- 30:43Speaker 1: hear or speak to their kids. Perhaps we are in
- 30:46Speaker 1: a bit of our own world, so we don't mind
- 30:48Speaker 1: the feedback and also most of us are moms anyway,
- 30:51Speaker 1: so we get where they're coming from. Moms on the loose.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Why do I feel this will be you and your
- 30:56Speaker 1: poly friends in maybe say 10 years' time?
- 30:59Speaker 1: Yeah, it's kind of us right now in Singapore. That's why,
- 31:03Speaker 1: that's why nowadays we meet at hawker center.
- 31:08Speaker 1: No one's gonna complain. We were at Maxwell Hawker Center
- 31:10Speaker 1: on Friday, having like, like hawker food and beers, and
- 31:14Speaker 1: we were loud and laughing, and no one, no one complained.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Can imagine I read it through that this Sonia very loud.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Stop it. Lucy's on the line right now. What about you?
- 31:23Speaker 1: Have you experienced this before?
- 31:24Speaker 2: We
- 31:25Speaker 2: were with my husband, my grandkids, and the people there
- 31:28Speaker 2: were talking very loudly. So my husband was very, very annoyed.
- 31:32Speaker 2: So instead of him doing the dirty work, he told
- 31:34Speaker 2: my grandson, can you go and tell those people to
- 31:37Speaker 2: lower their volume or don't.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Talk and this boy really go and do it and then,
- 31:41Speaker 2: and then they kept quiet.
- 31:42Speaker 1: So you use, you use the kid to ask them
- 31:45Speaker 1: to keep quiet, very smart, very smart. They really dialed
- 31:51Speaker 1: it down. Yeah,
- 31:52Speaker 2: they really
- 31:52Speaker 2: dumb, but I do not know their reaction because they are,
- 31:55Speaker 2: you know, yeah. But anyway, my grandson did the work lah.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Did you give your grandchild a nice big fat ang pao?
- 32:03Speaker 1: Just asking.
- 32:04Speaker 2: No, he's our favorite, so he always has stuff, only
- 32:08Speaker 2: need to give him that.
- 32:09Speaker 1: I see, I see. He already gets the treats, dude. Yeah,
- 32:12Speaker 1: you go and tell the people uncle buy you toys.
- 32:15Speaker 1: mites right here on 987. Sonia and Joakim here with you.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Back to more messages before we get to Sharon who's
- 32:21Speaker 1: hanging on the line.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Talking about whether or not you've been in a situation
- 32:24Speaker 1: where you had to sit next to a table at
- 32:26Speaker 1: a restaurant or in a public place and they were really,
- 32:29Speaker 1: really noisy. Did you do anything about it? What happened?
- 32:33Speaker 1: Let us know. We got one coming in from Rachel.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Good morning to my favorite duo. Rachel. I'm very sensitive
- 32:41Speaker 1: to sound, and it triggers me to a certain extent
- 32:44Speaker 1: depending on the setting. If it's a bar, it's OK,
- 32:47Speaker 1: but sometimes in a cafe or restaurant, it's too much.
- 32:50Speaker 1: There was a family.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Oblivious to their kid who was screaming and squeezing her
- 32:54Speaker 1: filled balloon stop till they left. Oh, that sounds skin crawl.
- 32:59Speaker 1: I'm deathly afraid of balloons and my ears were hurting.
- 33:03Speaker 1: Her dad was just in his own world while she
- 33:05Speaker 1: was going around screaming with the balloon. I'm quiet, but
- 33:08Speaker 1: when provoked, I get quite intimidating. I was ready to
- 33:11Speaker 1: go and confront the family, but my partner doesn't like confrontation,
- 33:15Speaker 1: so he just puts his noise cancellation earpiece in my ears. OK, OK, yeah.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Anyway, it reminds me of this time where I was
- 33:23Speaker 1: at a cafe. It's a dog cafe, OK, but, um,
- 33:26Speaker 1: this particular cafe allows dogs indoors as well. So, so
- 33:31Speaker 1: I was sitting down and you know, Maxi's relatively quiet
- 33:34Speaker 1: unless you go and get her into her zoomy mode, right,
- 33:38Speaker 1: then she was like, she might bark, but hardly ever.
- 33:41Speaker 1: She only barks at home most of the time. Next
- 33:44Speaker 1: to us, there was a table and there was a dachshund, OK,
- 33:47Speaker 1: I hope I'm saying it right.
- 33:49Speaker 1: And this dog is so small, but so noisy. And
- 33:55Speaker 1: are you calling me a dog?
- 33:58Speaker 1: Again, it is always a small one. It's always a
- 34:02Speaker 1: small to medium dogs, dogs lah, not humans. So, so
- 34:07Speaker 1: Jo is giving me this look like, you know, you
- 34:09Speaker 1: know what you do. Um, this dog couldn't stop barking.
- 34:12Speaker 1: I think he just wanted food from the table, but
- 34:15Speaker 1: it's like the yippee yaye kind of like.
- 34:18Speaker 1: What a great job of imitating the dogs. Yes, well done.
- 34:23Speaker 1: And everyone around this table, they were looking at kind
- 34:27Speaker 1: of like glancing at them, glaring, you know, because they're
- 34:29Speaker 1: all dog owners too. But at the same time, it's
- 34:32Speaker 1: like that person had no awareness or rather, the owner
- 34:36Speaker 1: chose to ignore and just pretended like nothing was happening.
- 34:39Speaker 1: I think the owner. No, that's the thing. I think
- 34:42Speaker 1: so too.
- 34:44Speaker 1: When we come back, we've got Sharon on the line
- 34:45Speaker 1: and last few messages. So back to more of your
- 34:47Speaker 1: messages before Sharon, who's hanging on the line. Question is,
- 34:51Speaker 1: have you ever sat next to a table that's making
- 34:53Speaker 1: so much noise and what did you do about it?
- 34:55Speaker 1: Saying good morning to Minnie on WhatsApp. Morning, Sojo. Every
- 35:00Speaker 1: Friday night, my hubby and I will stay up to
- 35:02Speaker 1: have a couple time catching up on dramas together.
- 35:05Speaker 1: We will always hear one of our neighbors and their
- 35:07Speaker 1: friends laughter. I tell you, it was quite scary at first.
- 35:12Speaker 1: It sounded just like a banshee. Hey Sonia, am I?
- 35:17Speaker 1: I'm kidding. I'm kidding. It starts to get really loud
- 35:20Speaker 1: to the extent somebody called the police because it was
- 35:22Speaker 1: that loud and scary, but somehow it doesn't work. They
- 35:26Speaker 1: still do that every Friday.
- 35:28Speaker 1: What? Wow. You, you know this neighbor. Do you know that?
- 35:33Speaker 1: I'm so curious now, do they know this neighbor? have
- 35:35Speaker 1: you ever seen it and it just like echoes of
- 35:36Speaker 1: the walls. Oh man, that's kind of creepy to compare
- 35:44Speaker 1: laughter to a banshee, it's quite scary. I mean, my
- 35:47Speaker 1: parents used to call me a hyena, so I'm not
- 35:49Speaker 1: sure if there is anything.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Better or worse
- 35:54Speaker 1: Joking, you're supposed to be my friend. Hello. Are you
- 35:57Speaker 1: on my side or what? I'm your friend. That's why
- 35:58Speaker 1: I'm very honest with you. Yes, I'm not a hyena.
- 36:01Speaker 1: I don't sound like a hyena. I can't lie. I
- 36:03Speaker 1: don't lie to you. I, I sound like a, um,
- 36:05Speaker 1: you know, beautiful butterfly hopping between flowers. Hey, Sonia, if
- 36:10Speaker 1: that's what you think, good for you. I love that
- 36:12Speaker 1: for you, Sonia.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Yes, OK. Self-awareness. Sharon is on the line right now. Sharon,
- 36:17Speaker 1: have you ever encountered this before and what did you do?
- 36:20Speaker 2: Uh, OK, uh, this is not in the context of
- 36:22Speaker 2: any cafe or any restaurant, but more like watching musical
- 36:26Speaker 2: quite a number of years ago, Phantom of the Opera.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Oh no, that kind of context is that you're supposed
- 36:31Speaker 2: to be seated.
- 36:32Speaker 2: And listen to the singing, uh, but this person was
- 36:35Speaker 2: humming along throughout the whole 1.5 hours, and I'm like
- 36:39Speaker 2: paying the $130 just for listening to the person singing. So,
- 36:44Speaker 2: but I didn't, I didn't dare to tell the person off,
- 36:47Speaker 2: so I glared at the person a few times, but
- 36:49Speaker 2: obviously the person was like, uh, self-indulged in, indulged in
- 36:52Speaker 2: her own singing. So I had to endure and I
- 36:56Speaker 2: can't move anywhere, you know, because it's a.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Uh, ticketed seats, you see, so I just have to like, OK, alright,
- 37:02Speaker 2: this one of those episodes, maybe I'll buy another ticket
- 37:04Speaker 2: again.
- 37:05Speaker 1: So the fact that he wasn't very bad singing. Yeah,
- 37:11Speaker 2: correct.
- 37:12Speaker 1: No wonder. But also it's not musical etiquette you should
- 37:16Speaker 1: listen to the songs, but I wonder if sometimes people
- 37:18Speaker 1: are oblivious about it. Like, you know, when I'm at
- 37:21Speaker 1: home alone or I'm in the shower and I hear
- 37:23Speaker 1: a song, I kind of like sing along with it.
- 37:25Speaker 1: But maybe we bring that lack of awareness, you can't
- 37:28Speaker 1: do in a musical.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's correct. So, but, um, then I learned
- 37:35Speaker 2: the lesson that I will not do it to another
- 37:37Speaker 2: person again, you
- 37:38Speaker 2: know.
- 37:38Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, thank you so much for sharing your story
- 37:41Speaker 1: with us and we, we don't wish this upon you
- 37:43Speaker 1: ever again. May you have good seats with good seats
- 37:47Speaker 1: in the future. Take care, Sharon. Have a good day.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Hi. We've got lovely treats thanks to Dyson coming your
- 37:53Speaker 1: way to beat the heat, the Hush Jet Mini Cool,
- 37:56Speaker 1: and it's a portable fan that you can bring around
- 37:58Speaker 1: with you. It honestly is small but powerful, just like
- 38:02Speaker 1: some of the laughter and the noise levels that people
- 38:04Speaker 1: are giving us today. I thought you're gonna say just
- 38:07Speaker 1: like me.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Hey man, like, you're not wrong, you're not wrong. But
- 38:12Speaker 1: thank you so much for your messages and your calls
- 38:14Speaker 1: this morning. Really cracked us up. Yeah. The question was,
- 38:16Speaker 1: have you ever sat next to a table that's super
- 38:18Speaker 1: boisterous and loud and noisy, and what did you do
- 38:21Speaker 1: about that based on my own experience yesterday? So you
- 38:24Speaker 1: know what, congratulations to today's winner. Wanna give it to
- 38:27Speaker 1: #tmms on the loose.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Melissa, OK, we found that really entertaining and you know,
- 38:34Speaker 1: at least you guys are self-aware and you will find
- 38:37Speaker 1: places that are also equally vibey and loud so that
- 38:40Speaker 1: you kind of don't, you know, you don't disturb other people.
- 38:43Speaker 1: So Melissa, congratulations to you from the heat here in Singapore.
- 38:46Speaker 1: It's a nice Dyson hush jet fan in Carnelian sky.
- 38:51Speaker 1: It's worth almost $150. Look, even though it's small, it's mighty.
- 38:57Speaker 1: I use it now. Yeah, so now I have two.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Officially. It's also available in other colors. Um, I think
- 39:03Speaker 1: there's blue, there's pink, there's red. You can kind of
- 39:06Speaker 1: wear it and incorporate it into your outfit or hold it,
- 39:08Speaker 1: place it on your desk, whatever you want to do.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Visit their website, Dyson.com.sg or their IG that is Dyson_SG.
- 39:15Speaker 1: The official name for the blue is in Cobalt. I
- 39:18Speaker 1: cobalt sold out. Yeah, it's OK. You can have the
- 39:21Speaker 1: Carnelian Sky one, I think. It's a Singapore exclusive for
- 39:24Speaker 1: National Day. There we go. OK, so, um, this juice
- 39:27Speaker 1: vending machine.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Has made the news in more ways than one over
- 39:31Speaker 1: the past few months. And I feel for them because
- 39:35Speaker 1: it almost isn't their fault at all. At this point
- 39:37Speaker 1: there's only one juice vending machine here in Singapore there's more. Yeah,
- 39:42Speaker 1: so I know we're talking about juice.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Which is the orange juice machine that I love, and
- 39:47Speaker 1: we have one here in this uh in the office.
- 39:49Speaker 1: I think it's the most prominent. It is. There's one
- 39:51Speaker 1: literally at my house also and many places where you
- 39:54Speaker 1: where you walk to. I noticed there was another one
- 39:56Speaker 1: that has apple juice, but I don't think it's the
- 39:58Speaker 1: same company. And it's called something else like.
- 40:01Speaker 1: I don't know, I squeeze or I something, I don't know,
- 40:04Speaker 1: something else. Why must always be in front? I don't know.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I wonder as well. Anyway, regardless of whether it's the
- 40:10Speaker 1: same company, I have no idea. But for this particular
- 40:14Speaker 1: case of the i juice vending machine, you would have
- 40:17Speaker 1: known that there was a, there was a guy that
- 40:19Speaker 1: got caught for.
- 40:20Speaker 1: Licking the straw and putting it back, right? $600 fine, OK,
- 40:24Speaker 1: let's move on that was, that was what happened previously. Now,
- 40:28Speaker 1: I'm just making the news yesterday, and apparently the incident
- 40:31Speaker 1: occurred on the 2nd of August. This poor uncle, lah,
- 40:34Speaker 1: this elderly man got his hands stuck in the Ajuice
- 40:37Speaker 1: vending machine over in the Hougang area, OK.
- 40:40Speaker 1: It's a developing story because it's yet to be, it's
- 40:44Speaker 1: yet to be revealed how and why his arm got
- 40:47Speaker 1: stuck in there, because I'm looking at some of the
- 40:49Speaker 1: pictures and videos. I'm wondering why was it in such
- 40:51Speaker 1: an awkward position. Again, I'm speculating here, just food for thought.
- 40:58Speaker 1: We have used the juice machine before many times, and
- 41:01Speaker 1: we know once it's done, it will push the cup
- 41:03Speaker 1: out to you, right.
- 41:05Speaker 1: And I'm looking at the pictures in the video. There
- 41:07Speaker 1: is no reason why your hand should go all the
- 41:08Speaker 1: way in like that unless the stuck. No, I'm just
- 41:13Speaker 1: gonna speculate unless he was trying to reach in.
- 41:16Speaker 1: And pull out an orange and try to be funny
- 41:18Speaker 1: with the machine. That's an orange, bro. Again, that's my
- 41:22Speaker 1: thought and speculation. My, I wonder whether it was because
- 41:25Speaker 1: it was taking too long to come out, but you
- 41:26Speaker 1: got to be patient with it because, you know, it
- 41:28Speaker 1: goes through the squeezing the ceiling of the cup and
- 41:30Speaker 1: then it comes out. Isn't it a countdown timer they
- 41:32Speaker 1: have for you as well? I think it's sort of
- 41:35Speaker 1: some vending machines have a function.
- 41:37Speaker 1: They only release the latch when it's done. So I
- 41:41Speaker 1: can't remember whether, I don't know whether all their machines
- 41:43Speaker 1: are the same or whether or not it took too long.
- 41:46Speaker 1: Then he was wondering whether it was stuck. He go
- 41:47Speaker 1: and pry it open and try and, you know, grab
- 41:49Speaker 1: it up, then it jammed up the whole system. See,
- 41:51Speaker 1: now I'm I'm invested too. Yeah, so we'll see what,
- 41:56Speaker 1: whether there's any other developments because I think the various
- 41:59Speaker 1: um
- 42:01Speaker 1: Publications have reached out for comments. They've yet to get
- 42:05Speaker 1: more information. So I think ijuice themselves are looking into investigating.
- 42:08Speaker 1: But you know, SCDF was called in and everything. So
- 42:11Speaker 1: I hope the uncle is OK. But whether they like
- 42:13Speaker 1: it or not, ijuice has been in the limelight again.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Maybe this is a good publicity for them. Great, but
- 42:18Speaker 1: I can imagine having a headache right now. Someone going, Why, why?
- 42:23Speaker 1: I know curse this year. Hey, let's look at it
- 42:27Speaker 1: from a positive light, man. Now everyone's talking about Ajuice.
- 42:30Speaker 1: I juice, now is the best time to spin it
- 42:32Speaker 1: your way. Let's go. OK, so you mentioned Singaporeans, as
- 42:36Speaker 1: we know, nostalgia. Yes, we do. I mean, we dig it.
- 42:39Speaker 1: So what's happening now? I mean, our grandparents, they have
- 42:43Speaker 1: Air Supply and Engelbert Humperdink who always seems to come
- 42:45Speaker 1: to Singapore for a concert. Almost like he's got a
- 42:49Speaker 1: PR here or something or he never left. Tell me,
- 42:52Speaker 1: when will you be? Oh, he's the one that sang that.
- 42:56Speaker 1: That's it, or maybe a version of it. And then.
- 42:59Speaker 1: For our parents, maybe it's people like Michael learns to rock. True, yeah,
- 43:04Speaker 1: or even I would go as far as to say
- 43:06Speaker 1: Westlife and Backstreet Boys. Yeah, yeah, my mom grew up
- 43:10Speaker 1: remembering them listening to that or Michael Jackson, I guess.
- 43:13Speaker 1: For us millennials, Sonia, this band for some strange reason enjoy,
- 43:18Speaker 1: they enjoy coming to Singapore and it's a pop like
- 43:21Speaker 1: mainstream pop maybe because there's money to be made here
- 43:24Speaker 1: as well. Maroon 5, they're coming back.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Why you sound like you're pinching your nose. You got
- 43:36Speaker 1: a sinus problem ah.
- 43:38Speaker 1: So, you know. Hey, look, man, like memories, lots of
- 43:42Speaker 1: great memories. Maroon Five's music, um, and I think in
- 43:45Speaker 1: the recent years also.
- 43:49Speaker 1: This is with Sizza and uh Cardi.
- 43:54Speaker 1: They've been, they've still been pretty active in the recent years. Yeah,
- 43:57Speaker 1: so they have a tour and it's happening here in
- 44:00Speaker 1: Singapore 12th of February 2027 at the National Stadium, OK,
- 44:06Speaker 1: proudly brought to you by our friends over at Visa,
- 44:08Speaker 1: UOB and Live Nation. Oh, I love that. So when
- 44:11Speaker 1: are tickets going on sale, do you know? Yeah, so
- 44:13Speaker 1: it looks to be on 11th of August 2 days
- 44:16Speaker 1: after NDP at 10:00 a.m.
- 44:19Speaker 1: OK, so lock it down if you are keen. I
- 44:21Speaker 1: think they've been here before, but it was a couple
- 44:24Speaker 1: of years ago. Oh, many times many times. I only
- 44:27Speaker 1: attended their concert like once. So maybe given how UOB
- 44:31Speaker 1: are the sponsors, right? If you have a UOB card,
- 44:33Speaker 1: maybe got special deal for you or maybe a bundle deal.
- 44:39Speaker 1: You will be not bad. They brought in Gaga last year, yeah,
- 44:42Speaker 1: they did.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Maroon 5. I'm very proud to say that my first
- 44:46Speaker 1: credit card was UOB and I still have it. The
- 44:49Speaker 1: same one. Well done. Coming up in just a few minutes.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Here's a gentle reminder for you to check your e-vouchers, OK?
- 44:56Speaker 1: Especially if it's issued to you online or a digital
- 44:58Speaker 1: voucher or something. Wait, wait, wait, today seems to be
- 45:01Speaker 1: very voucher CDC vouchers got e-vouchers. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So
- 45:05Speaker 1: it kind of, it was inspired by the fact.
- 45:07Speaker 1: That I realized I had a lot of e-vouchers racked
- 45:11Speaker 1: up on because of my link points that I never checked.
- 45:13Speaker 1: I never checked it. No, no, no, I want it.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Now I realize, I realized I'm like, oh, I got
- 45:19Speaker 1: this amount. I'm gonna use it right now. I think
- 45:20Speaker 1: my mom wants to take some from me too. But also,
- 45:23Speaker 1: another drop of vouchers that you don't want to miss.
- 45:26Speaker 1: So yesterday, um, I came to a realization that I
- 45:29Speaker 1: had a lot of link points. OK.
- 45:32Speaker 1: And it's because the, the card that I use for
- 45:35Speaker 1: certain shopping, it's got a direct tie with Link points, OK?
- 45:41Speaker 1: It's Trust. They do have, they always promote it or
- 45:44Speaker 1: they got this partnership, whatever. So. Yeah, yeah, and zero
- 45:49Speaker 1: FX fees and all that. We're not promoting it, it's
- 45:51Speaker 1: just genuinely what we use or what I use rather.
- 45:54Speaker 1: And when I actually realized like, oh my gosh, I
- 45:56Speaker 1: accumulated these points directly into my app, and I didn't
- 46:00Speaker 1: even notice it. I didn't realize. So now I'm like, OK,
- 46:03Speaker 1: I'm gonna, I'm gonna use these vouchers. I'm gonna use
- 46:05Speaker 1: it to get my groceries. Then speaking of which, uh,
- 46:08Speaker 1: e-vouchers wise, you can enjoy $61 worth of e-vouchers, Sheng
- 46:13Speaker 1: Sheng vouchers, and
- 46:14Speaker 1: More at places like Changi City Point, the Clementi Mall, Kinex,
- 46:18Speaker 1: places like that for National Day Month. So, gentle reminder,
- 46:23Speaker 1: please check because I think um our friends over at
- 46:26Speaker 1: the Elegant Group, they have various special promotions and I'm
- 46:29Speaker 1: guessing their main partners are Changi City Point, Kinex, Clementi Mall,
- 46:32Speaker 1: and so on. So please go and check, especially if
- 46:34Speaker 1: the ones.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Uh, if these malls are near you, only because you
- 46:38Speaker 1: mentioned National Day Month and all these vouchers and e-stuff, right?
- 46:42Speaker 1: That's $61 yeah, um, look, MINDEF and people from NDP
- 46:47Speaker 1: will not call your handphone to tell you you have
- 46:49Speaker 1: tickets to. Oh yeah, yeah, they won't, they won't. So
- 46:52Speaker 1: if they call you, just put on the phone, OK,
- 46:54Speaker 1: it's a scam.
- 46:56Speaker 1: So please check it out, especially if you live near
- 46:58Speaker 1: these areas. You don't want to miss out on these
- 47:00Speaker 1: e-voucher drops that they're having, and you know, if you
- 47:02Speaker 1: miss it, it's gone lah because the month of August,
- 47:05Speaker 1: you know, will zoom by. if you don't want you
- 47:11Speaker 1: accompany this person to go like a boyfriend for rent.
