- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31I am out here this morning on this very cloudy morning.
- 0:35Everything seems to be so serene.
- 0:36Everybody's so quiet. I've got chickens taking naps
- 0:39and baby chicks taking naps. I don't know, it's very quiet
- 0:41this morning. Must be the weather.
- 0:44Anyway, today we are talking about words and what they mean
- 0:48to us. So everyone defines things
- 0:53differently, shocking as that may seem.
- 0:56We can all generally agree on certain definitions for things,
- 1:00but when it comes down to brass tacks, the reality is we really
- 1:04have our own versions of definitions of most things.
- 1:07So let me give you an example of what I mean by this.
- 1:09I have a client who I cannot use the word goals with.
- 1:14If I use the word goals, I swear to you, he gets so upset with me
- 1:18and he's like, don't you remember?
- 1:19I don't like that word. And I'm like, OK, I get I, I do
- 1:22remember. And I'll every so often if I
- 1:24forget, boy, he will just let me know how much that word means to
- 1:28him. In the in the realm of
- 1:30negativity, his father was very driven and would make him set
- 1:34goals at an early age of like three and four years old.
- 1:37And he was always extremely strict and harsh with him.
- 1:40So that word has a meaning to him because words have emotions
- 1:43attached to them. And for we can all agree that
- 1:47there's a, there are definitions for things.
- 1:49We can go to the dictionary and look it up and we can say
- 1:51there's a definition. And yes, that's an agreeable
- 1:53definition, but the emotion we attach to it is really how the
- 1:57words affect us. Where this gets really
- 2:00interesting is if you think about it in definition of
- 2:03relationships and how we define our relationships.
- 2:07I know for a fact that my word, my world says that the word love
- 2:12means something very different often than my husband's
- 2:16definition of that. Where I might say, oh, I love
- 2:19this or oh, this is how I like, you know, this is how I show
- 2:22love. His version of showing love is
- 2:25very different and doesn't mean the same thing to him.
- 2:28Where, you know, making dinner for him is a way that he shows
- 2:33our family love. He loves to cook for us and have
- 2:35it ready for us and that's how he defines love is one of his
- 2:37ways. Showing his affection and
- 2:40cooking for me, that's kind of a chore just to get done.
- 2:44I don't really think of it that way, but he thinks of it that
- 2:47way and that's OK. We can have these different
- 2:50definitions, but it only works as long as we know we have these
- 2:55different definitions so that we don't get offended by the other
- 2:59person's actions. Now, there's a great book called
- 3:02The Five Love Languages, and that does help when you are out
- 3:07there and you're thinking about your partners and how you want
- 3:10to influence them. So if you've never read the book
- 3:12The Five Love Languages, it's a great book and it's very
- 3:14helpful, but this really transcends just that part of our
- 3:18world. Words consistently across the
- 3:21board for people have different definitions.
- 3:24If you say I want to go out and have a fun dinner and you are
- 3:30people you're hanging around with have a very different
- 3:32version of fun than you do, chances are you're going to be
- 3:35let down, disappointed. And the only way you can get
- 3:38around this is if you understand what everyone's definitions of
- 3:41things mean. And quite frankly, we don't all
- 3:43walk around with a little notebook clip to us that says,
- 3:48Oh, yeah, well, let me share my definitions with you because
- 3:50most of the time we don't even know what they are because no
- 3:52one's ever taught us to look at it this way and define what
- 3:55things are. So why this matters so much in
- 3:59in your own world and your own everyday existence is that half
- 4:02the time we don't know what things mean to us.
- 4:05We don't know how to define them.
- 4:06So therefore we get stuck. And when we get stuck, boy,
- 4:11aren't with ourselves and our own way.
- 4:13We go through things. It is detrimental to our
- 4:17progress moving forward if we don't understand what we keep
- 4:20running into and we keep doing the same thing.
- 4:23So if we have this, this meaning that we've attached to going to
- 4:28work, OK, so let's just say you go to work every day and you
- 4:33just don't like going to work and you've got this association
- 4:37to it and work. The word work to you just is
- 4:40awful. Anytime you go right away,
- 4:44you're going to start to feel a certain angst, a certain
- 4:48sickness in your stomach. It's going to start to mean
- 4:50something to you before you even get there, before anything even
- 4:53happens. It starts the triggers to go
- 4:56off. So what I want you guys to focus
- 4:59on right now is figuring out when these emotions start to
- 5:03show up and they're associated with certain words.
- 5:06When you hear something, when someone says something to you
- 5:10and you feel an emotion come up for it, you have to stop, pause,
- 5:15ask yourself, is this something that is true?
- 5:18Am I creating a meaning around this word that has no
- 5:22association that I want? Am I doing something outside of
- 5:28my well-being by sticking to this strategy and just keep
- 5:31pushing myself through it? Or I keep running into the same
- 5:34problems with the same people because I keep saying something
- 5:37that's, you know, triggering them and the words mean
- 5:41something because words matter. And even though they are 7% of
- 5:45communication, what happens is the words are associated to
- 5:49emotions. Always, always, always.
- 5:52You know, it's kind of like you just mentioned the word snake to
- 5:54some people and they freak out and it's like all I did was say
- 5:58the word, but they have an instant reaction to it.
- 6:02And that's across the board how humans work and human emotions
- 6:06work. So know what those words are,
- 6:08start to figure them out in yourself and question
- 6:11everything. Because the more you question,
- 6:12the better off you are at fixing what's going on inside of you.
- 6:16So I hope you all have an amazingly wonderful blessed day
- 6:19and I will see you tomorrow.
