- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hello, hello.
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: You're listening to the Jesse Morgan Devotions for the Christian Heart Podcast, episode 74.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: This week's devotional is titled David and I chose Fear Over Faith.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Let's go.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Jesse Morgan.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: I used to just share home decor and renovation tips on social media, but now I'm sharing something even closer to my heart.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: My journey in love for Jesus Christ, my Savior.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Jesse Morgan Devotions for the Christian Hawk Podcast.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: This is a weekly devotional I started back in May 2024, but the inspiration for it came much earlier.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: It was rooted in a faith journey that began when my daughter was born four months early in 2023.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Through that challenging time, God worked in ways that truly amazed me.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: On this podcast, I share personal stories of faith woven together with Scripture to show just how incredible God's word can be in our everyday lives.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: My hope is that through these stories, you'll be encouraged, uplifted, and reminded of God's love and presence, no matter what you're going through.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: So I invite you to spend less than 15 minutes with me each week as we reflect on these devotionals together.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Let's all pray within.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: David and I chose fear over faith.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Key passages.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: This week, woo! I was struggling.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: I really was struggling to see how this message or these chapters really tied together.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: But honestly, in just the last hour, God gave me clarity.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: And what he showed me actually connects to a really personal story of mine.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: So here we go.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: We're diving into 1 Samuel chapters 21 and 22.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: We're continuing the story of David, and which I call these two chapters, David on the Run.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Last week we talked about the deep relationship between David and Jonathan.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: You know, Jonathan being King Saul's son, the heir to the throne.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Um Jonathan yet was willing to surrender that because he knew God had chosen David to be next king, to be the next king.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: And of course, King Saul couldn't handle that.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: He was jealous, threatened, and full of rage towards David, even though David had done nothing wrong.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: And at that point, we know Jonathan and David hugged, embraced, and David went on the run.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: So now we're in 1 Samuel 21:1, and um David arrives at Knop terrified and running for his life.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: He meets Ahimelech, the priest, who is nervous when he sees David alone and asks, Why are you by yourself?
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Instead of telling the truth, David lies, saying he's on a secret mission for King Saul and needs food and weapons.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: You can almost hear the fear behind his words, the kind of panic that makes you say whatever you have to say just to get through that moment.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: And Ahimelech believes him and gives him holy bread from the table of the Lord, as mentioned in 1 Samuel 21.6.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: And he also gives David the sword of Goliath, the same one David used years earlier to defeat the giant, which is said in 1 Samuel 21 9.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: David thinks he's outsmarted the situation, but what he doesn't realize is that someone was watching, Doeg of Ebonite, one of Saul's officials.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Later in 1 Samuel 22 9 through 19, Doeg reports everything to Saul, twisting the story to make it sound like Ahimelech helped David betray the king.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: And in his jealousy and rage, Saul accused Ahimelech of treason.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Ahimelech pleads his innocence, which he was innocent, saying he had no idea what was going on.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: But Saul refused to listen.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: And in that moment, Saul ordered Doag to kill not only Ahimelech, but 85 priests, plus their families and the entire town of Nob.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: It's one of the darkest moments in Saul's story, I feel.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: A king consumed by fear and envy.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: And one man escapes, and it is um Abathar, which is Ahimelech's son.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: He runs to David around 1 Samuel 22, 20, and he runs and he runs to David and he tells him what happened.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: And when David hears this news, David's heart breaks.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: He says in 1 Samuel 22, I knew that day when Doag the Ammonite was there, that he would surely tell Saul, I have caused the death of all the persons of your father's house.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: David takes full responsibility and he's devastated, realizing that this small little lie, the moment of fear instead of faith, had devastating consequences.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: And that's where the story lies with me, because um I've had my own Ahimelech moments, times when fear made me act before I prayed for the for the blessing.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Um, a few weeks ago, I mentioned that I had been wrestling with a side business I was planning with my mom.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: I was really diving into the side business because I wanted to have extra income to support my family.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: That was literally the reason for it.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: And my mom got excited about it.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: I f and I started to feel bad because she got emotionally invested.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: But the more I thought about this business, the more I realized my heart was just was just not in it.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: I had to be honest with myself and with her, and it wasn't what God was telling me to do.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: That was hard because I love my mom and I know she was looking forward to it.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: But lately I've realized what truly lights me up is home renovations and interior design.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: I absolutely love it.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: And people that are close to me know that.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: And if I'm being real, I've been scared.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: I've been scared to step into that world, to invest in it, to make it more than just, you know, social media.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Interior designers have degrees, certifications, high-end clients, and honestly, sometimes they come off as intimidating or even unwelcoming, to be honest.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: And as a 38-year-old mom, I've had those thoughts like, how can I start now?
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: I can't go back to square one.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: What if I fail?
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: What if I owe all this money in the end?
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: My mom even said, just take out a business loan.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: But that idea terrifies me.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: The thought of debt, your credit being affected, all of that is at risk and it's just unknown.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: And then it really, you know, it's like it hit me.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: My version of fear over faith isn't running from Saul or lying to a priest, it's letting finances and comfort dictate my my journey, my obedience.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: It's saying, no, that's too risky.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Instead of saying, God, if you called me, you'll make a way.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: And that's my survival mode.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: That's my David moment because fear doesn't look like running all the time, it can look like you just standing still.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: It looks like you're settling.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: But here's the thing God has provided so much for me this year.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: Our daughter just started school and we prayed for that.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: He's been faithful in ways I can't even imagine.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Financially, even.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: So why would I doubt him now?
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: I have to really sit back and think about that.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Why now?
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: When I went to San Diego a few months ago, uh about a month ago, God surrounded me with confirmation.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: I met a man named Ash, one of the early pioneers in the tech world who helped develop targeting algorithms.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: And he even told me that you have such strong people skills.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: You should be leading and connecting people.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Then the same week, I spent time with a coworker who's also such a strong mentor for me and a friend, and one of my best friends, I had a long conversation with Chris Rogers.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: None of them knew what I had been praying about, but every single one of them spoke words that lined up perfectly.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: It was like God was saying, You already know what I told you to do.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Now trust me and go do it.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: And maybe that's where you are today.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: Maybe God's been nudging you to take a step of faith, to start the thing, forgive the person, apply for the job, or simply believe he can do what he promised for you.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: But fear keeps whispering, it's too risky, it's too risky.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: Friend, whoever is listening, fear will always feel safer.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say that again.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Fear will always fear.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Fear will always feel safer.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: But faith is where the miracles and the blessings happen.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: Don't let fear overpower your faith.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Let faith overpower your fear.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: Don't be like David in this situation, lying, pretending, acting out of panic.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: When God had already promised to provide for him.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: David forgot, just like we do sometimes for a moment, that he was the chosen king of Israel.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: And sometimes we forget that we're the chosen children of God.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: So whatever you're facing, financial pressure, uncertainty, anxiety, or that dream you've buried in the back, take it up to God.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Pray this with me.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Lord, I'm scared, but I trust you.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: I know you'll provide.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: I'm stepping out in faith.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: I believe you'll meet me where I need to be.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: You know, when you do that, you realize God's hand was already there making a way.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: And remember, when we let fear dominate faith, we are delaying a blessing.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: God already prepared.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: But when we repent, reflect, and return to God like David did, God still redeems all of it.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: So ask yourself this week, are you living with faith over fear?
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Or fear over faith?
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Because I promise, faith wins every single time.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: And Satan will hate it, but God will love it.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Love you all.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: God bless.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Let's pray.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: Heavenly Father, thank you so much for this amazing lesson of us realizing that we can't get far with fear.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: And realizing that Satan wants us to just grow up in fear so we don't take those risks.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: We don't, you know, have that faith to move forward in the direction and the journey that you have already prepared for us, Lord.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Father, we thank you so much for your love, your compassion.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: We thank you so much for sending your son here to die on the cross for our sins, Lord.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: And Father, thank you so much for everybody listening.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: If anybody is going through something and they need to really put that fear aside, Lord, I just pray that they are encouraged to put that fear aside and trust in you.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: And when we trust in you, Lord, our faith will flourish, the blessings will come, the understanding will come.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: Father, we love you and we praise you in Jesus' name.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Amen.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Love you all till next time.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: We're going to continue David on the run.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Well, that wraps up this week's episode.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: My prayer is that these devotions bring you a little closer to God each day.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: If you felt encouraged, don't keep it to yourself.
