- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Van Halen was one of the greatest rock bands of the 1970s and 1980s.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Although they had a lot of popular songs and albums, they are probably best remembered for their song Jump, which was featured on what was arguably their best album, 1984.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Now, the song is great for a lot of reasons, including its catchy lyrics, its great drum fills, and of course, Eddie Van Halen's amazing guitar licks, but who could forget the music video for Jump, which featured the band running around on stage in spandex and massive early 80s hairstyles.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: You know, the word jump is not just a great title for a popular rock song, it's also great advice as you consider your next step to success in your writing life.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: As you think about your next project or your next steps, you're probably dreading it a little bit.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: You're not sure how you're going to get it done.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: You might feel intimidated or scared.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: One of the defining qualities of successful people, no matter what their industry, is that they take action now and they figure it out as they go along.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: The famous science fiction writer Ray Bradbury said, first you jump off the cliff and you grow your wings on the way down.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: So if you're thinking about your next steps and you're thinking about your plans for 2023, or maybe even just your plans for tomorrow, don't sit around and do analysis on it for the next six months or next six hours.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Figure out your next steps and take those next steps within the next day.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: You're going to be energized by the forward momentum that you have and by your decisiveness and by the fact that you're just doing something about your dreams and your hopes and your desires.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Instead of sitting around twiddling your thumbs, doing a lot of navel gazing and figuring out all the possible scenarios of what you could do.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Six months from now, or my goodness, even six days from now, I think you're going to be really amazed at your progress if you keep on taking that leap, knowing that you're going to be able to figure it out as you go along.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: So I want to encourage you to go ahead and you know what I'm going to say, go ahead and jump.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Except you may not want to wear spandex on the way down.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question: what could your life be like six months from now if you just take the leap?
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Today's episode is brought to you by the Daily Writer Club.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: You know, in our Daily Writer Club, which you've heard me talk about here on the show before, we help people take the leap.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: We help people take action.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: And one of the foundational beliefs of this group, and it's honestly the big reason why I started this group a couple of years ago, is because I firmly believe that writers are better together than we are alone.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: You can be the most talented person in the world, you can have all the skills in the world, but if you're just trying to accomplish things totally by yourself, if you're trying to manufacture your inspiration, your motivation, and you're trying to concoct all your plans totally by yourself, you're not going to get as far as you would if you're running with a group of writers who are inspired, who are motivated, who are energized, and who are helping each other along the way.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And that is a belief that I will take to the grave with me.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: I feel very convicted about that.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Even though I'm an introverted writer, I'm a big introverted writer.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: But I know for a fact that whenever people get together in groups, whenever they support one another and they challenge one another and they inspire one another, really, really good things happen.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: So if you're tired of trying to do this writer thing by yourself, make sure and check out the Daily Rider Club.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: We're going to help you take the leap, but we're also going to be jumping with you because we're all achieving big things in the Daily Rider Club.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: So don't try to do this alone by yourself.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: This will be a great goal for you to have in 2023 to get involved in a great community and to achieve more than you ever thought possible with your writing and with your success.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: You can check it out at DailyRiderClub.com.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening, and I'll see you tomorrow.
