- 0:24Speaker 1: keep it Holy Yeah.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Were you supposed to do something Monday?
- 0:29Speaker 1: This past is leading it's the week leading up to Eastern.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Because I ain't did nothing, I didn't know the whole week. Yeah,
- 0:37Speaker 2: I'm sitting. I'm behind the Holy Week. I'm starting today.
- 0:45Speaker 1: All right, you have a closing.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Here's my closing today. I was thinking about this. We
- 0:50Speaker 2: kind of talk about it off the air. Parenting is tough, man,
- 0:56Speaker 2: It really really is, if you're doing a good job
- 0:59Speaker 2: of it hard. It's hard to care for somebody. It's
- 1:05Speaker 2: hard to watch a person you love and care deeply
- 1:09Speaker 2: for make mistakes. It's hard to stay on top of
- 1:14Speaker 2: everything to help them through the mistakes, to try to
- 1:17Speaker 2: help them avoiding mistakes. It's really tough being a parent, man.
- 1:23Speaker 2: And then you got to give them enough range where
- 1:25Speaker 2: they have the freedom to learn. But then you got
- 1:29Speaker 2: to have enough restraints so they don't overdo it. And sometimes, man,
- 1:35Speaker 2: you wind up overdoing both. You wind up giving them
- 1:39Speaker 2: too much leeway. You wind up sometimes giving them too
- 1:42Speaker 2: much restraint. It's a hard job because parentsing don't come
- 1:46Speaker 2: with a manual. Ain't a book you can read and
- 1:49Speaker 2: says that when they do this, you do that. It
- 1:51Speaker 2: don't work that way. Every child is different. All of
- 1:55Speaker 2: my kids are different. The way I had to handle
- 1:58Speaker 2: them was different. One of the rewards I found about
- 2:02Speaker 2: parenting now that my children are older is I find
- 2:07Speaker 2: it really cool man that they still want to be
- 2:11Speaker 2: around you. If your kids no, No, this is not
- 2:15Speaker 2: all the time. Don't get me wrong, man. Now they
- 2:18Speaker 2: don't want to do everything with you. They got they
- 2:20Speaker 2: circle of friends, they got the spots they want to
- 2:22Speaker 2: go down. Younger, You're not gonna get invited to everything.
- 2:25Speaker 2: That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about just
- 2:29Speaker 2: occasionally they call and they check on you without wanting nothing.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Sometimes man, they just want to come hang out with you.
- 2:39Speaker 2: It's a rewarding thing, man, But you in order to
- 2:42Speaker 2: get to that side of it, you got to put
- 2:44Speaker 2: time in with your kids. Man. You got to invest
- 2:48Speaker 2: in them. You know, I watched Tommy on this show
- 2:52Speaker 2: as a father and deal with his kids. How he
- 2:55Speaker 2: invested in his kids and the payout is good to
- 2:59Speaker 2: see his daughters love him, his sons love him. You know,
- 3:04Speaker 2: they ask him questions, they come to him for godless.
- 3:06Speaker 2: I watched Shirley do it with her daughter. I'm watching
- 3:09Speaker 2: car and do it with her daughter. It's amazing. They
- 3:12Speaker 2: come in there and say goodbye every day on this
- 3:14Speaker 2: zoom while we do our radio show. It's amazing. Man.
- 3:18Speaker 2: You want to have kids that when they do grow
- 3:23Speaker 2: up and they appreciative of what you did for him. Now,
- 3:29Speaker 2: they ain't always and they don't always get it right,
- 3:34Speaker 2: and oftentimes they lack in the appreciation department. But that
- 3:38Speaker 2: don't mean you didn't do a good job. Sometimes being
- 3:41Speaker 2: a parent is a thankless job. It really is, especially
- 3:46Speaker 2: to single mothers. Man, single mothers out there, it is
- 3:50Speaker 2: such a thankless job because they have no idea what
- 3:54Speaker 2: you're doing. They have no idea. Your children are clueless
- 3:58Speaker 2: to the real sacrifice as you done made, and I
- 4:01Speaker 2: know they are. That's why my foundation comes to the
- 4:05Speaker 2: aid of single mothers who are raising boys by theyself,
- 4:08Speaker 2: because I know it's a daunting task. So we try
- 4:11Speaker 2: to take them for five days and kind of give
- 4:13Speaker 2: them something else mental to think about and reshape their mind,
- 4:16Speaker 2: and they thinking, and try to give them back a
- 4:18Speaker 2: better boy. But it's tough. So many things about parenting
- 4:23Speaker 2: is tough. But man, how rewarding is it? Though? Man?
- 4:28Speaker 2: When my sons go, hey, Dad, you fishing this weekend?
- 4:31Speaker 2: Can I come fish with you? Yeah? Man, how rewarding
- 4:35Speaker 2: is it? Man? When your son is getting dressed for
- 4:37Speaker 2: an event and he calls you with a friend on
- 4:39Speaker 2: the other phone. Wentton did this to me last year
- 4:44Speaker 2: getting ready for a galo. He was coming to my
- 4:46Speaker 2: gala with a friend of his and he was trying
- 4:50Speaker 2: to tie his tie. The boy had on the wingtip
- 4:53Speaker 2: tuxedo shirt, but he wanted to wear a regular tie,
- 4:56Speaker 2: and he asked wanting to tie his tie for him,
- 4:58Speaker 2: and Win couldn't get it straight. The not kept being slanted.
- 5:02Speaker 2: So he called me. He said, Dad, my buddy Sean
- 5:07Speaker 2: got this tuxedo shirt on its got a wing tip
- 5:09Speaker 2: on it. I knew what he was talking about, the
- 5:11Speaker 2: little collar to stick up like a penguin. I said, yeah, man,
- 5:15Speaker 2: what's wrong? He said, I keep tying the knot, man,
- 5:17Speaker 2: but it's coming out slanting and it don't look even.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I said, son, you gotta tie a double windsor. He said.
- 5:24Speaker 2: I said, instead of going around once bringing it through
- 5:26Speaker 2: like you do on a regular shirt to make a
- 5:28Speaker 2: thin knot, you got to make that vnight. So you
- 5:30Speaker 2: need a double windsor. He said, hold on, Dad, let
- 5:33Speaker 2: me try that. He said, Wow, that worked. He said,
- 5:37Speaker 2: thanks Dad. I appreciate that.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Man.
- 5:40Speaker 2: But he didn't hang up the phone, and I didn't
- 5:42Speaker 2: hang up, and I overheard him saying to his boy, Man,
- 5:48Speaker 2: my dad know everything. He said, I ain't ever called
- 5:52Speaker 2: my father and he ain't have an answer for me.
- 5:56Speaker 2: He has never told me he didn't know. Dude said, yeah, man,
- 6:01Speaker 2: that's cool. I ain't had that. And that teared me up, man,
- 6:06Speaker 2: because my son man realizes that I've been there for
- 6:10Speaker 2: him like Tommy been there for his son. And that's effective, man.
- 6:14Speaker 2: So it's a really cool thing. That's one of the
- 6:16Speaker 2: rewards and parents, or one of the rewards of parenting
- 6:20Speaker 2: when you find out that they get it, and sometimes
- 6:22Speaker 2: they don't get it till they've grown just hanging there,
- 6:25Speaker 2: but they will get it. Those are my closing remarks today,
- 6:30Speaker 2: y'all keep parenting. Stop trying to be their friend, be
- 6:33Speaker 2: their parent. It's the most important thing you can do
- 6:36Speaker 2: for them. Y'all have a great day today. Talk to God.
- 6:39Speaker 2: He would absolutely love to hear from you. I'm gonna
- 6:42Speaker 2: go fish.
