- 0:00You have been blaming the wrong person.
- 0:02Every difficult relationship, every rejection, every cold
- 0:06shoulder, every argument that spiraled into silence, every
- 0:10person who looked at you and saw someone less than who you know
- 0:13yourself to be. You blame them.
- 0:15You blame their mood, their history, their inability to see
- 0:19you clearly. And every time you did, you gave
- 0:22your power to someone who never had it in the first place.
- 0:25I'm going to tell you something tonight that will disturb you
- 0:28before it frees you. It disturbed me when I first saw
- 0:31it, and then it became the most liberating truth I have ever
- 0:35encountered in all my years of teaching.
- 0:38Everyone in your world, every single person you interact with,
- 0:41is you pushed out. Not metaphorically, not
- 0:44poetically, literally. And when you understand what
- 0:47that means, you will never again waste a single night blaming
- 0:51another human being for the state of your world.
- 0:54My name is Neville and what I am about to share with you is not a
- 0:58theory. It is not a philosophy I
- 1:00borrowed from another teacher and repackaged.
- 1:03It is the operating principle of consciousness itself and I
- 1:06discovered it through decades of testing it against every
- 1:09relationship, every circumstance and every so-called impossible
- 1:14situation I ever faced. The concept is this.
- 1:17Everyone is. You pushed out every person in
- 1:20your world, your partner, your employer, your mother, the
- 1:23stranger who was rude to you this morning morning is
- 1:26reflecting back to you the assumptions you hold about them
- 1:29in your own consciousness. This is the law of assumption
- 1:33applied to human relationships, and it works with mathematical
- 1:36precision. In this teaching, I will show
- 1:39you exactly what this principle means, why it operates the way
- 1:42it does, and how to use it to transform any relationship in
- 1:46your life, not by changing the other person, but by changing
- 1:50the assumption you hold about them within yourself.
- 1:53Let me begin where all truth begins with consciousness
- 1:56itself. Consciousness is the only
- 1:58reality. I have said this many times and
- 2:01most people nod along without truly hearing it.
- 2:04So let me say it differently. There is nothing outside of your
- 2:07consciousness. The room you sit in, the device
- 2:11you are listening through, the person sleeping in the next
- 2:13room, or the person you wish was sleeping in the next room.
- 2:17All of it exists within your awareness, not as a
- 2:20philosophical abstraction as literal fact.
- 2:23Your consciousness is not inside your body.
- 2:26Your body is inside your consciousness.
- 2:28The world is inside your consciousness, and every person
- 2:32you have ever met exists, as far as your experience is concerned,
- 2:36as a projection of the assumptions you hold within that
- 2:39consciousness. This is not cruelty.
- 2:42This is not victim blaming. This is the recognition that you
- 2:46are the operant power in your world.
- 2:48The state you occupy determines the world you see.
- 2:51When you walk through your day assuming that people are
- 2:54hostile, you will encounter hostility.
- 2:57Not because hostile people found you, because your assumption
- 3:00selected them, filtered for them, brought them forward from
- 3:03the infinite possibilities of the world, and made them your
- 3:07experience. When you assume that a specific
- 3:09person is cold, distant, uninterested, you will
- 3:13experience that person as cold, distant, uninterested.
- 3:17Not because they chose to be, because you gave them no other
- 3:20role to play in the drama of your consciousness.
- 3:23I tell you from my own experience, the moment I
- 3:26understood this, every grievance I had ever held against another
- 3:30person dissolved. Not because I forgave them,
- 3:33because there was nothing to forgive.
- 3:35They had only ever played the part I had written for them.
- 3:38You are imagination, and imagination creates reality, and
- 3:42every person in your world is a character in the reality your
- 3:46imagination has constructed. The question is not whether this
- 3:50is true. It is operating right now in
- 3:52every relationship you have, whether you are aware of it or
- 3:56not. The question is whether you will
- 3:58become conscious enough to choose what you project.
- 4:01So we have established that consciousness is the only
- 4:04reality, and that every person in your experience is reflecting
- 4:08back to you the assumptions you hold about them.
- 4:11You understand that you are the operant power, the one writing
- 4:14the script that others perform. But here is where most people
- 4:18stumble, because understanding this principle intellectually is
- 4:22not the same as applying it, and application requires you to
- 4:26confront something deeply uncomfortable.
- 4:28The realization that every painful interaction you have
- 4:31ever had was authored by you, not by the other person, by you.
- 4:36In a moment I am going to show you exactly how to use this
- 4:39principle to rewrite any relationship.
- 4:42And the method is so simple, so direct, that your rational mind
- 4:46will resist it. But the law does not require
- 4:48your rational mind's approval. It requires only your
- 4:52assumption. The method is this.
- 4:54If you want someone to change, change your assumption about
- 4:57them, not your behavior toward them, not your words, not your
- 5:01strategy, your assumption. Let me give you an example.
- 5:05A woman came to one of my lectures in New York many years
- 5:09ago. She told me that her husband had
- 5:11become cold, distant, but he no longer spoke to her with warmth,
- 5:15that he came home late and left early, and that she feared she
- 5:19was losing him entirely. I asked her one question.
- 5:22What do you say to yourself about him when he is not in the
- 5:25room? She was quiet for a moment.
- 5:28Then she said, I tell myself He does not love me anymore.
- 5:31I tell myself he is looking for someone else.
- 5:34I tell myself it is over. I said to her, there is your
- 5:37husband. The man you see in your living
- 5:40room is the man you have constructed in your imagination.
- 5:43You have assumed him into coldness.
- 5:46Now assume him into warmth. She asked me how I said, Tonight
- 5:50before you fall asleep, imagine him as you wish him to be.
- 5:54Not as he was last Tuesday, not as he was when he forgot your
- 5:57anniversary. Imagine him looking at you the
- 6:00way he did when he first told you he loved you.
- 6:03Hear him saying words of tenderness.
- 6:05Feel his hand on yours. And do not do this as a
- 6:08technique. Do it because in the state akin
- 6:11to sleep, you are impressing a new assumption upon your
- 6:14subconscious mind, and your subconscious mind will
- 6:17externalize that assumption into your world.
- 6:20She came back three weeks later. Her husband, she said, had
- 6:24changed. He brought flowers.
- 6:26He initiated conversation. He looked at her differently.
- 6:30He had not changed. Her assumption about him had
- 6:32changed. And because everyone is you
- 6:34pushed out when she revised the inner man, the outer man
- 6:38conformed there to assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled.
- 6:42This is not manipulation. Manipulation is trying to force
- 6:45another person to behave differently through pressure,
- 6:48guilt, or strategy. This is creation.
- 6:52You are not changing them. You are changing the only thing
- 6:55that has ever determined their behavior in your experience,
- 6:58your consciousness of them. Now, how do you do this
- 7:01practically? First, identify the person you
- 7:04wish to experience differently. It can be anyone, a partner, a
- 7:08parent, a colleague, a friend, someone you have never met.
- 7:12Second, ask yourself honestly, what do I habitually assume
- 7:15about this person? What is the inner conversation I
- 7:18hold about them when they are not present?
- 7:21Do I assume they are difficult, unloving, dishonest,
- 7:25unavailable? Be ruthless in your honesty.
- 7:28The inner conversation is the blueprint.
- 7:30Whatever you are saying to yourself about them is the
- 7:33instruction your subconscious receives and externalizes.
- 7:37Third, revise. Construct a new in a
- 7:40conversation, not a wish, not a hope, a conversation that
- 7:44implies the relationship as you want it to be.
- 7:47Hear them saying words that would only be said if the
- 7:50relationship had already transformed.
- 7:52Feel the naturalness of it, the ease.
- 7:55The most important conversation you will ever have is the one
- 7:59you hold with yourself, and the most.
- 8:01The important version of that conversation is the one you hold
- 8:04about other people. 4th Take this revised conversation into
- 8:08the state akin to sleep. As you lie down at night, replay
- 8:12it, feel it, let it become real, and then let sleep carry it to
- 8:16the subconscious, which will accept it as literal fact and
- 8:19begin restructuring your world to match.
- 8:22Persist in your assumption and the world must rearrange itself
- 8:25to conform. This includes every person in
- 8:28that world. Now a common objection.
- 8:31People ask me, Neville, are you saying that other people have no
- 8:35free will? That they are puppets?
- 8:37I am saying something far more radical than that.
- 8:40I am saying there is only one consciousness and it is yours.
- 8:44The people you see are individualized expressions of
- 8:47the one infinite awareness that you are.
- 8:50When you change the assumption within, the expression without
- 8:53must change because they were never separate from you.
- 8:57This does not mean other people do not exist, it means they
- 9:00exist within in the same consciousness that you do, and
- 9:04the version of them that you experience is always, always
- 9:07determined by the state you occupy.
- 9:10A man who assumes his boss is unreasonable will have an
- 9:13unreasonable boss. A woman who assumes her children
- 9:17are difficult will have difficult children.
- 9:19A person who assumes the world is hostile will live in a
- 9:23hostile world. Change the assumption.
- 9:26The world changes. Man's imagination is the only
- 9:29redemptive power in the world. Not negotiation, not
- 9:33confrontation, not therapy designed to fix the other
- 9:36person. Your imagination, the image you
- 9:39hold of another in the privacy of your own mind, is the only
- 9:42force that determines how they show up in your life.
- 9:46Let me bring you into this. Now. close your eyes if you are
- 9:49able. Think of one person in your life
- 9:51whose behavior you wish were different.
- 9:53See their face. Not with judgement.
- 9:56Simply see them in your mind. Hear them say something they
- 9:59have never said to you, something that would only be
- 10:02true if the relationship were exactly as you desire it to be.
- 10:06It might be a word of love, a word of respect, an apology, a
- 10:10congratulation, an invitation. Hear their voice.
- 10:14Feel the warmth of the exchange. Let yourself feel the
- 10:17naturalness of this moment, as though it is simply how things
- 10:21are between you. Isn't it wonderful?
- 10:23Hold this feeling. This is not fantasy.
- 10:26This is an impression being made upon the subconscious mind, and
- 10:30the subconscious does not distinguish between what is
- 10:33physically experienced and what is vividly imagined in the state
- 10:37akin to sleep. You may release the scene now
- 10:40the impression has been made. I want to return to the woman I
- 10:43told you about, the one whose husband had grown cold three
- 10:47weeks after she revised her inner image of him.
- 10:50He was a different man. But here is the part of the
- 10:53story most people miss. He did not know anything had
- 10:56changed. He did not feel manipulated, he
- 10:59did not feel controlled. He simply felt different.
- 11:02He felt drawn to her, he felt warmth where before there had
- 11:05been distance, and he could not explain why.
- 11:08That is how the law works. It does not announce itself, it
- 11:12does not leave fingerprints. The world simply rearranges to
- 11:15match the new assumption, and the people within it behave as
- 11:19though they have always been this way.
- 11:21This is the truth that sets you free, not from other people,
- 11:25from the belief that other people are the cause of your
- 11:27experience. Experience they are not.
- 11:29You are. You have always been, and
- 11:31tonight you can begin to assume a new world by assuming new
- 11:35things about the people in it. What you desire, you already are
- 11:38in eternity. The relationship you want is not
- 11:41something to be earned or negotiated.
- 11:44It is something to be assumed. Assumed with feeling, assumed in
- 11:48the state akin to sleep, assumed with the calm persistence of
- 11:52someone who knows the law and trusts it completely.
- 11:55Sleep as though the wish were fulfilled.
- 11:57Wake as though it is already so. The person you most want to
- 12:01change is not the problem. The assumption you hold about
- 12:04them is. Change the assumption tonight,
- 12:07and then watch them become the person you always knew they
- 12:10could be, because they were never anyone else.
- 12:13They were always you, pushed out.
- 12:15If this teaching has opened something within you, I invite
- 12:18you to test it. Choose one person.
- 12:21Revise your inner conversation about them tonight.
- 12:24Do not tell them. Do not announce your experiment,
- 12:27change the image you hold of them in the silence of your own
- 12:31mind and observe what happens. If these teachings speak to
- 12:35something within you, you will find more of them here.
- 12:38Return when you are ready. There is always a deeper layer
- 12:41to uncover, and I will be here to take you further.
- 12:44Consciousness is the only reality, and tonight you can use
- 12:48it to reshape every relationship in your world.
