- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here and.
- 0:14And it's Yvonne, too. And it's Friday.
- 0:17It is. What's the date?
- 0:19Is it the 21st? It is the 21st of November.
- 0:22How do we get here, Yvonne? Just the days have rolled on and
- 0:26here we are. Christmas time upon US Christmas
- 0:29party starting today. Oh wow, Actually, yes.
- 0:36And, you know, mixing even in my sound and our different voices,
- 0:40we have just discovered a truth that has has kind of plagued me
- 0:45for a whole marriage 25 years. And I'm like, even you're so
- 0:48quiet. I as it turns out, apparently I
- 0:52naturally have a softer talking voice.
- 0:55But it's part of your charm, honey.
- 0:57But in my defence, other people in the room will hear what I
- 1:00say, just not you. Just me, just me.
- 1:02And it's not even like me. What do you call that?
- 1:05A selective hearing you out. So yeah.
- 1:09Well, the good news is we can beef up your microphone so
- 1:12everybody can hear what you have to say.
- 1:14Great. And Speaking of what you have to
- 1:16say, we are going to dive straight back in time to sit at
- 1:21the feet of that wonderful, wise King Solomon to hear some of his
- 1:25proverbs. So let's read together Proverbs
- 1:281813 to 18. Sprouting off before listening
- 1:43to the facts is both shameful and foolish.
- 1:49The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a
- 1:53crushed spirit? Intelligent people are always
- 1:58ready to learn. Their ears are open for
- 2:01knowledge. Giving a gift can open doors.
- 2:07It gives access to important people.
- 2:10The first to speak in court sounds right until the cross
- 2:14examination begins. Flipping a coin can end
- 2:19arguments. It settles disputes between
- 2:22powerful opponents and again, sprouting off before listening
- 2:31to the facts is both shameful and foolish.
- 2:36The human spirit can endure a sick body, but who can bear a
- 2:41crushed spirit? Intelligent people are always
- 2:46ready to learn. Their ears are open for
- 2:49knowledge. Giving a gift can open doors.
- 2:55It gives access to important people.
- 3:00The first to speak in court sounds right until the cross
- 3:03examination begins. Flipping a coin can end
- 3:08arguments. It settles disputes between
- 3:11powerful opponents. Boy, the question of who can
- 3:26bear a crushed spirit, that really that really stands out to
- 3:30me. How about you?
- 3:31Oh. I was thinking the last one, the
- 3:36flipping a coin can end arguments just reminded me of
- 3:41the high level things that were decided by paper, rock, scissors
- 3:46when we lived in Japan. And just a similar thing that
- 3:49it's just there can be a finite thing that can just settle these
- 3:53amazing yeah disputes. Because it feels so important to
- 3:57us, right? But I guess the outcome is
- 3:59trivial in the end, it's just about maintaining the
- 4:01relationship. So it feels fair, yeah.
- 4:04Yeah. Oh Lord, thank you for this
- 4:06wisdom. Thank you for simple things like
- 4:11paper, rock, scissors, Jung Kempoi as they call it, for
- 4:15flipping a coin. Lord, so often we get stuck on
- 4:19things that seem like we are playing for sheep stations.
- 4:22But really these decisions in the long run are inconsequential
- 4:27compared with the relationships and your love for us.
- 4:33Your love that grows and blesses and sustains our spirit from
- 4:39being crushed. And thank you that you are
- 4:42victorious over all and that your spirit of life lives
- 4:46powerfully and beautifully and generously in US.
- 4:51And thank you that that will sustain us through so many of
- 4:55the challenges that life throws our way.
- 4:58So I pray that we can look past the challenges that today brings
- 5:02us. We can look past what feel like
- 5:04the big decisions that we are faced with and that our spirit
- 5:08can be buoyed by being in you, resting in your provision and
- 5:12your love. You're wonderful and we praise
- 5:15you and we pray all of this in your name, Jesus, Amen.
