- 2:23Speaker 4: Why do you suppose he doesn't answer? Doorny?
- 2:25Speaker 5: I don't know, Betsy. Maybe if we look through this
- 2:28Speaker 5: window weagan.
- 2:28Speaker 4: See hickqu's the matter? What are you staring at?
- 2:32Speaker 5: Look over there on the floor by the sofa, Betsy, Huh?
- 2:35Speaker 4: What is a man lying there? He's been shot in
- 2:38Speaker 4: the forehead.
- 2:38Speaker 5: Confound. He's the one man in the world who could
- 2:41Speaker 5: have told us why a young man who had everything
- 2:43Speaker 5: to live for or should want to take his own life.
- 2:49Speaker 2: And now the case of the Flowery Farewell Today's exciting
- 2:52Speaker 2: Adventures starring Lawn Clark as Nick Carter, drought to.
- 2:55Speaker 3: You by New post War Old Dutch Cleanser.
- 2:58Speaker 2: As our story opens, we find Nick seated at his
- 3:01Speaker 2: desk in his office, intently studying the front page of
- 3:04Speaker 2: the evening paper. Patsy stands behind him, reading over his
- 3:07Speaker 2: shoulder Nick.
- 3:08Speaker 4: It says he was only thirty five years old.
- 3:11Speaker 5: Yes, Patsy, he was one of the richest industrialists in
- 3:13Speaker 5: the world, and he.
- 3:14Speaker 6: Ends up by throwing himself in a lake. Oh, it
- 3:16Speaker 6: just doesn't make sense. Why would a man like that
- 3:19Speaker 6: take his own.
- 3:20Speaker 5: Life on a suicide note he left in his car
- 3:22Speaker 5: tells why it's reprinted here in the paper?
- 3:24Speaker 4: Well is it?
- 3:24Speaker 5: I didn't see it right down here at the bottom
- 3:26Speaker 5: of the column.
- 3:27Speaker 6: It is not the number of years a man who
- 3:29Speaker 6: has lived that enables him to say his life was justified.
- 3:32Speaker 6: It is the richness and fullness of his experience. I
- 3:36Speaker 6: say farewell in my own life with deep regret. And
- 3:39Speaker 6: yet I am convinced that it is better for a
- 3:41Speaker 6: man to die in his prime quickly and painlessly than
- 3:44Speaker 6: to let old age destroy him by slow stages.
- 3:47Speaker 5: For hell, pretty flowery farewell, isn't it for?
- 3:50Speaker 4: I say? Imagine anyone sitting down.
- 3:52Speaker 5: And Nick Carter speaking, mister Carter.
- 3:56Speaker 4: My name is Missus Holt, Missus Douglas Holt.
- 3:59Speaker 5: Yes, Missus Holt, I wonder.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Whether you can come to my home this evening.
- 4:02Speaker 6: My husband and I would like to speak to you
- 4:04Speaker 6: about the death of our very good friend, Miles Kincaid.
- 4:06Speaker 5: Oh, yes, the man who committed suicide.
- 4:08Speaker 4: The man who died, mister Carter.
- 4:11Speaker 6: Whether or not he committed suicide is what we'd like
- 4:13Speaker 6: you to find out.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Well, so far, missus Holt, I'm afraid you haven't given
- 4:27Speaker 5: me any really solid grounds for your suspicions that Kincaid
- 4:29Speaker 5: didn't kill himself. But Lester Carter, Miles had everything in
- 4:32Speaker 5: the world to live for. He was rich, famous, and happy.
- 4:36Speaker 6: Well, according to his note, he wanted his life to
- 4:38Speaker 6: end at the peak of his success.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Yes, but what about his call to me yesterday?
- 4:42Speaker 6: He said he had playing reservations and was leaving for
- 4:44Speaker 6: Florida very soon.
- 4:45Speaker 5: My wife checked on that, mister Carter. It's true, as if.
- 4:48Speaker 6: We were going to commit suicide today, why would he
- 4:50Speaker 6: make arrangements.
- 4:51Speaker 4: For a trip at a future date.
- 4:52Speaker 5: Let me ask you this. You're implying that Kincaid was murdered.
- 4:55Speaker 5: But do you know of anyone who would have any
- 4:57Speaker 5: reason to kill him?
- 4:58Speaker 4: Oh? No, I don't.
- 5:00Speaker 5: How about you, mister Hope, No, I can't think of anyone.
- 5:03Speaker 5: And that you both knew him, well, didn't you?
- 5:05Speaker 7: Oh?
- 5:05Speaker 4: Yes?
- 5:05Speaker 6: In fact, well, Miles and I had quite a crush
- 5:09Speaker 6: on each other.
- 5:09Speaker 4: A good many years ago. That was before he introduced
- 5:12Speaker 4: me to Douglas.
- 5:12Speaker 5: See, he and I were partners at that time. We
- 5:15Speaker 5: had a little organization that we called Inventors Incorporated. We
- 5:18Speaker 5: broke up after a while that we never lost touch
- 5:21Speaker 5: with each other. And in all these years he made
- 5:23Speaker 5: no serious enemies.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Of course he might have without our knowing it. And
- 5:26Speaker 4: still doesn't add up to murder, does it, Nick?
- 5:29Speaker 3: Oh?
- 5:29Speaker 5: Not to me? And you won't investigate this matter for us,
- 5:32Speaker 5: mister Carter. Oh, I didn't say that, mister Oh.
- 5:33Speaker 6: I wish you would, mister Carter. I just know something's
- 5:36Speaker 6: wrong somewhere. I've got a well and.
- 5:40Speaker 5: Intuition about it, very well, missus HOAt, I have a
- 5:43Speaker 5: lot of faith in a woman's intuition. There has been
- 5:45Speaker 5: a murder. I promise you I'll find it out before
- 5:47Speaker 5: the night is over.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Did you talk to that Ja Madison on the phone?
- 6:01Speaker 1: Nick?
- 6:01Speaker 3: Yes?
- 6:02Speaker 5: And you should have heard the horse lamp he gave
- 6:03Speaker 5: me when I suggested that Miles Kincaid might have been murdered.
- 6:06Speaker 6: Oh, that must mean the handwriting experts are sure about
- 6:09Speaker 6: the suicide now.
- 6:10Speaker 5: They are, Matty says, there's absolutely no question about it.
- 6:13Speaker 5: Wasn't a prosery.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Huh, well that pretty well, saiddles it. Then, doesn't it?
- 6:17Speaker 5: Perhaps? But at least it won't hurt to take a
- 6:20Speaker 5: look at kin Cage's home.
- 6:21Speaker 4: We're almost there, Nick, it's the house at the end
- 6:24Speaker 4: of the street.
- 6:25Speaker 5: All right, Matty wasn't even going to hold an autopsy?
- 6:28Speaker 4: Did you ask him to? I?
- 6:29Speaker 5: Did you finally agreed to it?
- 6:32Speaker 4: Good?
- 6:33Speaker 5: All right? How about uh, huh?
- 6:39Speaker 4: Whom do you expect to see here?
- 6:40Speaker 5: Nick Kincage's vallat man named Harry Otis Holt says it
- 6:44Speaker 5: was probably the last man to see King Cage alive.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Yeah, but do you think how was that? Nick?
- 6:49Speaker 5: Somebody morning? Someone in pain?
- 6:52Speaker 4: It came from those bushes by the side of the porch.
- 6:54Speaker 5: Yeah, come on there he is Nate.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Lying in the bushes.
- 6:57Speaker 5: Give me a hand past.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Okay, that doesn't my head.
- 7:04Speaker 5: What happened to you?
- 7:06Speaker 7: Who are you?
- 7:07Speaker 5: Nick? Her a private investigator? Who are you, Harry Otis?
- 7:10Speaker 5: I'm I was mister Kincaid's valet, Sir, what happened to you?
- 7:16Speaker 5: Someone ranging the door bell a few minutes ago? I
- 7:20Speaker 5: opened the door, but there was no one there, So
- 7:22Speaker 5: I stepped out in the porch. It's it's all I remember.
- 7:27Speaker 4: You must have been slugged from behind me.
- 7:28Speaker 5: Yeah, come on, where are we going? Whoever slugged I
- 7:31Speaker 5: may have wanted to get into the house could still
- 7:33Speaker 5: be there.
- 7:33Speaker 6: Okay, Nick, if my aleskin k committed suicide, Nick, what's
- 7:38Speaker 6: this all about?
- 7:39Speaker 5: Your guess is as good as mine. Passy.
- 7:42Speaker 4: The front door is open.
- 7:43Speaker 5: Don't break any noise.
- 7:46Speaker 4: No one in the living room. What are you gone upstairs?
- 7:50Speaker 5: Listen?
- 7:52Speaker 4: Makee someone moving around.
- 7:54Speaker 5: Right behind that closed door over there that's dropping on
- 7:57Speaker 5: him unexpectedly. Right, Oh, confound it?
- 8:03Speaker 4: The door locked?
- 8:04Speaker 5: Yes, I guess we'll have to announce ourselves after all.
- 8:07Speaker 7: Open up, open this door.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Him through the door, not hurt you, no, But it
- 8:15Speaker 5: was all a closed Nick. It's all quiet in the now.
- 8:18Speaker 5: Fraid he's giving us a slip. That gunfire was propa
- 8:20Speaker 5: be intended to cover his getaway.
- 8:21Speaker 4: What are we going to do?
- 8:22Speaker 5: Only one thing to do? Shoot the lock off. Stand
- 8:24Speaker 5: back there, Nikki.
- 8:29Speaker 4: He must have gone out that open window.
- 8:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I know he was going after him in the dark.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Oh shucks. Oh you look at this room. It must
- 8:36Speaker 4: have been Kincaid's study.
- 8:38Speaker 5: That's a mess now. A friend tore it apart, every drawer,
- 8:41Speaker 5: every Friday have been after. I don't know. There is
- 8:44Speaker 5: one thing I do know, what's that? Nick? As of no,
- 8:46Speaker 5: I'm definitely interested in how Myles Kincaid really died. I certainly,
- 9:00Speaker 5: mister Carter, as Miles Kincaid's lawyer, I am happy to
- 9:03Speaker 5: help you clear up any questions you have regarding his death. Well, first,
- 9:06Speaker 5: mister Randolph, who stood and benefit by his death, Well,
- 9:09Speaker 5: all of his wealth is to be divided among various
- 9:12Speaker 5: foundations and charitable institutions. What he left no private bequest whatsoever,
- 9:17Speaker 5: only a comparatively small one to Melvin Dudley.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Melvin Dudley, that's the publisher, isn't it.
- 9:23Speaker 5: Yes, Sirs, Miles had arranged with Dudley to publish his memoirs,
- 9:26Speaker 5: and he left a few thousand dollars to cover the cost.
- 9:29Speaker 5: And Kincaid was writing his memoirs at the time of
- 9:31Speaker 5: his death. He practically finished them, though that fact uncommonly known.
- 9:35Speaker 5: I see, by what about all his property holdings? He
- 9:38Speaker 5: must have had an enormous estate.
- 9:40Speaker 8: Not anymore.
- 9:41Speaker 5: He'd sold everything in the past year. Converted it all
- 9:44Speaker 5: into cash. There's just one piece of land that he
- 9:47Speaker 5: held on to. Oh where's that over in the poorer
- 9:49Speaker 5: section of town on Montrose Avenue. That's to be sold
- 9:53Speaker 5: at auction now that he's dead. I don't understand Randolph.
- 9:56Speaker 5: Why on earth would he disposed of all his possessions
- 9:58Speaker 5: at the age of thirty five.
- 10:00Speaker 4: You'd almost think he knew he was going to die.
- 10:02Speaker 5: He did, miss Boorn what he and his personal physician
- 10:06Speaker 5: and I were the only ones who were in on
- 10:08Speaker 5: his secret? What secret? Mister Carter? In six weeks Myles
- 10:12Speaker 5: Kincaid would have been dead of heart trouble.
- 10:15Speaker 9: Why are we going back to the office, Nick, I
- 10:28Speaker 9: want to call him Mary and check on the autopsy.
- 10:30Speaker 6: Oh Nick, you promise, hope before the night is over
- 10:34Speaker 6: you'd at least know whether or not k and Kate
- 10:36Speaker 6: was murdered.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Do you think he will?
- 10:38Speaker 5: I don't know. Well I found out so far is
- 10:41Speaker 5: that he had a better reason than we thought for
- 10:42Speaker 5: doing away with himself.
- 10:44Speaker 6: But that still doesn't explain the mysterious visitor at his
- 10:47Speaker 6: house tonight.
- 10:48Speaker 4: And also, oh that's our phone, Nick?
- 10:50Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I got to kick good.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Harry, Nick before they hang out.
- 10:57Speaker 5: Nick Carter speaking, and Nick, this is matter, yea man,
- 11:00Speaker 5: I was just gonna call you. What'd you find out?
- 11:01Speaker 7: Kincaid was drowned?
- 11:02Speaker 5: All right? His lungs are full of water. What that
- 11:06Speaker 5: settles that? No, it doesn't make what you mean. His
- 11:09Speaker 5: lungs are full of water, right enough? But the water
- 11:11Speaker 5: was full of chlorine, chlarine. Yeah, but there's no chlorine
- 11:15Speaker 5: in lake water. You're right, Nick, but there's plenty of
- 11:18Speaker 5: it in the city water system. And Myles Kincaid was
- 11:21Speaker 5: drowned before he was thrown into the lake, right, and
- 11:23Speaker 5: that means murder.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Well, Nick knows at last that the wealthy young industrialist
- 11:32Speaker 2: did not die by his own hands. But why Myles
- 11:35Speaker 2: Kincaid left a suicide note, or why anyone would want
- 11:38Speaker 2: to kill a man who was doomed to die from
- 11:39Speaker 2: heart trouble within six weeks are questions that are still unanswered.
- 11:43Speaker 2: We'll continue with this baffling adventure in just a moment,
- 11:51Speaker 2: and now back to the case of the flowery Farewell.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Today's adventure with Nick Carter drought to you by new
- 11:57Speaker 2: post war old Dutch cleanser. We pick up our story
- 12:01Speaker 2: a half an hour has past Nick and Patsy have
- 12:03Speaker 2: joined Matty at the Kincaid home, and, guided by Kim
- 12:06Speaker 2: Kaid's valet, Harry Otis, have just entered the murdered man's bedroom.
- 12:10Speaker 5: I see the bed's been made, Otis. Did you do
- 12:12Speaker 5: that today? No, sir, no one's been in here all day. Well,
- 12:15Speaker 5: in that case, King Kaid didn't sleep here last night, Nick,
- 12:19Speaker 5: apparently not Maddy.
- 12:20Speaker 6: But he's dressing downs on the bed and there's one
- 12:22Speaker 6: of his ties on the floor behind that chair.
- 12:24Speaker 5: Yeah. Why has Kinkaid fully dressed when your man found him? Many?
- 12:27Speaker 5: For sure he had on a brown business suit, a
- 12:30Speaker 5: blue shirt and a green tie. A green tie? Yeah,
- 12:33Speaker 5: oh no, No, you must be mistaken, sergeant. Now don't
- 12:36Speaker 5: tell me he had on a blue shirt and a
- 12:39Speaker 5: green tie, Sergeant. Mister Kincaid would never have worn a
- 12:42Speaker 5: combination like that. He was very particular about his clothes.
- 12:45Speaker 5: Now listen a minute. This all adds up, huh, Otis.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Take a look around. Does this room seem just about
- 12:54Speaker 5: the same to you as I was? No, sir, it doesn't.
- 12:59Speaker 5: The bed's been he pushed back farther than usual in
- 13:01Speaker 5: the chairs all against the wall.
- 13:04Speaker 8: Hey, I'm beginning to catch horn.
- 13:06Speaker 5: Nick, Oh, this is where were you when your employer
- 13:08Speaker 5: retired last night? I had the evening off, Sir. I
- 13:10Speaker 5: drew his bath water for him.
- 13:12Speaker 7: Then I went out.
- 13:13Speaker 5: When I got back, I assumed he was asleep he
- 13:15Speaker 5: drew his bath Uh yes, sir, Well, Madie, at least
- 13:18Speaker 5: we know how he died.
- 13:19Speaker 4: But do you think he was killed hearing it?
- 13:21Speaker 7: I do.
- 13:22Speaker 5: It was probably getting undressed when the murderer found.
- 13:24Speaker 8: Him and they had a fight.
- 13:26Speaker 5: Yeah, that's why the furniture is out of place. Yeah,
- 13:28Speaker 5: that would also account for the bruises on King Kid's face.
- 13:32Speaker 5: We figured they was from being hit against the rocks
- 13:34Speaker 5: in the lake. Yeah, while he was probably knocked unconscious
- 13:36Speaker 5: in this room. Now, the murderer took him into the
- 13:38Speaker 5: bathroom and held his head underwater until he was dead.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Oh how hard.
- 13:40Speaker 5: And he dressed him again, Master benists a hurry. He
- 13:43Speaker 5: didn't see the tie King could have taken off, so
- 13:45Speaker 5: he grabbed one out of the closet without even noticing
- 13:46Speaker 5: the color.
- 13:47Speaker 8: And then he carried him out, shoved him in his
- 13:49Speaker 8: own car, and drove to the lake.
- 13:51Speaker 6: But what about the suicide note, I've got a little
- 13:53Speaker 6: theory about that too.
- 13:54Speaker 5: What sort of theory. I'd rather not say until I've
- 13:56Speaker 5: had a chance to confirm it.
- 13:58Speaker 4: But how are you going to do that?
- 13:59Speaker 1: Nick?
- 14:00Speaker 5: Dropping in and a publisher named Melvin Dudley and asking
- 14:02Speaker 5: him a few questions.
- 14:17Speaker 4: I guess there's no one home.
- 14:18Speaker 5: Oh there must be, Patsy. I saw a light at
- 14:20Speaker 5: the side of the house. All let's go around the
- 14:22Speaker 5: side porch and take a look in the room where
- 14:24Speaker 5: the light is. Okay, Nick, Now he was wasting time here, Nick,
- 14:30Speaker 5: we can look in through this French window.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Look at all those papers scattered all over the floor.
- 14:35Speaker 5: He looks like a cyphone has been through here. What
- 14:38Speaker 5: ok over there beside the sofa, he said, what sofa?
- 14:41Speaker 5: Holy smoke, Nick, there's a man line. There's a master
- 14:44Speaker 5: the glass that he revolver. We got to get in there,
- 14:46Speaker 5: I'll say, we have or I stand back to reach
- 14:50Speaker 5: the latch. Yeah, yeah, I got it. Holy smoke. Look
- 15:00Speaker 5: at this skinnig, Yeah, shot through the head.
- 15:03Speaker 4: That's Melvin Dudley. Nick, I've seen his picture in the paper.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Well you'll see it again the more Patsy all over
- 15:08Speaker 5: the front page. Hey, Maddy, Yeah, Nick's paper's on the floor.
- 15:13Speaker 5: Ever seen any just like them. Yeah, yeah, sure. They
- 15:17Speaker 5: are the same kind of paper, the same handwriting as
- 15:20Speaker 5: the suicide note. But I figured and look, here's a
- 15:23Speaker 5: typewritten letter among them to Melvin Dudley from Myles Kincaid.
- 15:28Speaker 5: I'm enclosing the manuscript of my memoirs. Everything is here
- 15:31Speaker 5: except the foreword, which I'm working on. Now. Well, there's
- 15:34Speaker 5: the answer to your suicide note, Maddy. Well, it was
- 15:37Speaker 5: written by Miles Kinkaid, but it wasn't intended as a
- 15:39Speaker 5: suicide note.
- 15:39Speaker 7: And what was it? Nick?
- 15:40Speaker 5: A page from the foreword to his memoirs. The murderer
- 15:43Speaker 5: stole it last night from Kinkaid's house and planted it
- 15:46Speaker 5: in Kincaid's car as a suicide note.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Oh no, wonder it sounded so flowery.
- 15:51Speaker 5: We're up against the smalln operator, Nick Planty, smart Matty,
- 15:55Speaker 5: but he's made one big mistake. Uh, when he killed
- 15:58Speaker 5: Melvin Dudley. He should have taken those memory with him.
- 16:12Speaker 7: Oh morning, Nick.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Oh hello, Maddy. I've spent a very dull night reading
- 16:18Speaker 5: Kinkaid's memoirs.
- 16:19Speaker 8: Oh yeah, find anything interesting in him?
- 16:21Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 16:22Speaker 3: Not?
- 16:22Speaker 5: The most interesting part, isn't there is? I don't get
- 16:25Speaker 5: you Maddy. Unless I'm all wrong, these memoirs should hold
- 16:28Speaker 5: the key to Kinkaid's murder. What do you mean? Well, apparently,
- 16:31Speaker 5: when kin Kid learned he was going to die, he
- 16:33Speaker 5: decided to leave behind him a document that would expose somebody,
- 16:36Speaker 5: somebody he hated.
- 16:38Speaker 7: And you think this.
- 16:38Speaker 5: Somebody got twinned of it and knocked King Kaid off
- 16:41Speaker 5: so as to get hold of the document. I do.
- 16:43Speaker 5: But he didn't get hold of it because kin Kaid
- 16:45Speaker 5: had already sent it to Dudley.
- 16:46Speaker 7: Uh huh.
- 16:47Speaker 5: The murderer realized that after he went back and searched
- 16:49Speaker 5: kin Kid's study, so he went to Dudley's house to
- 16:51Speaker 5: get it and ended by killing Dudley. Right, But look, Nick,
- 16:55Speaker 5: why didn't the murderer take their memoirs while he was there?
- 16:57Speaker 5: He did, at least he took that part of them
- 17:00Speaker 5: which incriminated him as one whole section missing from the manuscript.
- 17:03Speaker 7: Oh, got any idea?
- 17:04Speaker 5: What was in that section? Yes? Mary, I have good
- 17:07Speaker 5: wall Boy. When Douglas Houlton, his wife, put me on
- 17:10Speaker 5: this case, Holt told me that he and Kincaid were
- 17:13Speaker 5: once partners in an outfit called the Inventors Incorporated in yeah,
- 17:18Speaker 5: but there's no mention of any such organization anywhere in
- 17:21Speaker 5: the memoirs. Hey, Nick, then maybe, yeah, what'd you find
- 17:27Speaker 5: it the newspaper? Morg passy, you get any dope on
- 17:29Speaker 5: kin Cag's background planning?
- 17:30Speaker 9: Nick?
- 17:31Speaker 6: And about that company called Inventors Incorporated? There's something funny
- 17:35Speaker 6: about that?
- 17:35Speaker 5: Funny in what way?
- 17:37Speaker 6: Well, there was a third partner. Third partner, uh huh,
- 17:40Speaker 6: a man named Peter Jarrett.
- 17:42Speaker 5: Peter mh No mention of him in the memoirs either, Hey, Nick,
- 17:48Speaker 5: are you thinking this Jared.
- 17:49Speaker 7: Guy might be our man?
- 17:51Speaker 5: I don't know about that, Mary, but I am thinking
- 17:54Speaker 5: that it's strange that Holton, his wife didn't tell me
- 17:57Speaker 5: about this Peter Jarrett. I wonder why I know I
- 18:11Speaker 5: should have mentioned Peter Jarrett too, you, mister Carter. But frankly,
- 18:15Speaker 5: I was sticking to an agreement that Myles Kincaid and
- 18:17Speaker 5: I made long ago. What sort of agreement, mister Hope,
- 18:20Speaker 5: the cover up for Jarrett in spite of the raw.
- 18:22Speaker 7: Deal he gave us?
- 18:23Speaker 4: Oh well, he gave you a raw deal.
- 18:25Speaker 7: He certainly did.
- 18:27Speaker 5: Jared wrecked and Vendors Incorporated by walking out on us
- 18:29Speaker 5: one day, taking with him what little capital we had,
- 18:32Speaker 5: and you never saw him again, No, never, But I'm
- 18:34Speaker 5: confident he's still alive.
- 18:35Speaker 4: Nick, Peter Jarrett must be our man.
- 18:38Speaker 5: I certainly had a motive for killing kind ken Kada
- 18:41Speaker 5: is planning to expose him and the memoirs he was writing.
- 18:43Speaker 7: You say Miles was writing his memoirs, mister Carter, Yes,
- 18:47Speaker 7: he was.
- 18:47Speaker 5: They were practically complete when he died.
- 18:49Speaker 7: Well, then it all adds up, doesn't it.
- 18:51Speaker 5: Only a man like Jared who wanted to get hold
- 18:53Speaker 5: of those memoirs before that were published, would have had
- 18:55Speaker 5: a movie for killing a man who was going to
- 18:57Speaker 5: die anyway. Yeah, but the question is how can I
- 19:00Speaker 5: get our hands on Jaed. Well, I can tell you
- 19:02Speaker 5: where his wife lives. She ought to know where he's
- 19:04Speaker 5: hiding out. If anybody does, oh good, we'll go see her.
- 19:07Speaker 5: I have an idea that we will find Peter Jarrett.
- 19:09Speaker 5: We'll have this case sowed up. Yeah, you, missus jarreted,
- 19:28Speaker 5: what's it two years? I'm Nick Carter, a private investigator.
- 19:30Speaker 4: Dick huh, you'll get out of here this moment, missus,
- 19:33Speaker 4: I said, get out, jus, Jared, don't do that.
- 19:36Speaker 5: Butt that gun away?
- 19:37Speaker 4: Please you come one step closer and I'll start shooting,
- 19:40Speaker 4: So help me.
- 19:41Speaker 5: I don't think you're going to shoot anywhere with that gun.
- 19:44Speaker 5: And the next time you want to fire a gun,
- 19:46Speaker 5: missus Jarrett, remember to lift the safety catch.
- 19:48Speaker 4: Nice going, Nick, pretty darn smart.
- 19:51Speaker 5: Perhaps you better talk to us.
- 19:53Speaker 4: Ain't talking to no cops?
- 19:54Speaker 5: Why not?
- 19:55Speaker 4: Because I'm sick of you guys. You've been holding me
- 19:58Speaker 4: for ten years, ever since Pete he disappeared.
- 20:00Speaker 5: You wouldn't know where your husband is, would you?
- 20:02Speaker 4: Are you crazy? I wouldn't be living like this if
- 20:05Speaker 4: I knew him with all that dough.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Why did you see him last?
- 20:09Speaker 4: I ain't seen him since the day he went to
- 20:11Speaker 4: work and didn't come home.
- 20:12Speaker 5: And where was your husband working the day it disappeared?
- 20:14Speaker 4: He was working over that house on Montrose Avenue. Montrose Avenue.
- 20:18Speaker 6: But that's the one piece of property that milest and
- 20:21Speaker 6: kid held on to after he sold everything else.
- 20:23Speaker 5: Yeah, well, thank you, missus Jared. I'm very grateful to you.
- 20:27Speaker 4: What I didn't do nothing for you?
- 20:30Speaker 5: Oh yes, you did. You just gave me the last
- 20:32Speaker 5: piece of a very complicated jigsaw puzzle.
- 20:41Speaker 6: Oh Nick, what a horrible, musty old plate should be musty.
- 20:48Speaker 5: Oh, nobody's been done in the cellar for over ten years,
- 20:51Speaker 5: not since myleskin Kad and Douglas Holt closed up the
- 20:54Speaker 5: business they called Inventors Incorporated.
- 20:56Speaker 4: What do you expect to find here, Nick, A.
- 20:58Speaker 5: Key to three murders?
- 20:59Speaker 4: I three, but only two men were killed.
- 21:03Speaker 5: Patsy, If my hunch is right, Wait a minute, what
- 21:06Speaker 5: do you see, Nick? Look where my flashlight's parting. Notice
- 21:10Speaker 5: anything about that slab of concrete over there.
- 21:12Speaker 7: Oh?
- 21:13Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a different color from the rest of the.
- 21:15Speaker 5: Cellar floor right because it was laid at a different time.
- 21:19Speaker 5: Let's see, it's about three feet wide and six feet long,
- 21:22Speaker 5: isn't it.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Nick? Do you think that's a great I do I.
- 21:26Speaker 5: Think A man who has been buried under that slab
- 21:28Speaker 5: of concrete for ten long years? Patsy stares at the
- 21:38Speaker 5: circle of light from Nick's flashlight. Who was buried in
- 21:41Speaker 5: the musty cellar on Montrose Avenue And what bearing his
- 21:43Speaker 5: death has on the murders of Myles Kincaid and Melvin Dudley.
- 21:46Speaker 5: We'll find out in just a moment.
- 21:53Speaker 2: And now for the conclusion of the case of the Flowery,
- 21:56Speaker 2: Farewell today's adventure with Nick Carter, brought to you byen
- 22:00Speaker 2: You post war old Dutch cleanser. Almost an hour has
- 22:03Speaker 2: passed since Nick and Patsy discovered what Nick believes to
- 22:06Speaker 2: be a grave in the cellar of the abandoned house
- 22:08Speaker 2: on Montrose Avenue. They left the cellar for a time,
- 22:10Speaker 2: but have now returned to it and are waiting impatiently.
- 22:14Speaker 4: A sign of him yet, Nick.
- 22:16Speaker 5: He'll be here, all right, can't afford not to come.
- 22:19Speaker 4: I still don't understand why you're so sure he's the murderer.
- 22:22Speaker 5: You will before long?
- 22:23Speaker 4: Yeah, but hold it here he comes.
- 22:28Speaker 5: Yes, we're here, Come on down.
- 22:31Speaker 7: What's this all about?
- 22:32Speaker 5: Anyway? Familiar territory to you, isn't it. It's been a
- 22:35Speaker 5: long time since I was here. This is where Myles
- 22:37Speaker 5: Kincaid and I had our laboratory. You, Miles Kinkad and
- 22:41Speaker 5: Peter Jarrett. Don't forget Jarrett. Mister Holt's right by the way.
- 22:45Speaker 7: Have you got a line on his whereabout? Yet?
- 22:47Speaker 5: I've done better than that. I've found it. Well. Where
- 22:51Speaker 5: is he right where you and Miles Kinkaid buried him
- 22:54Speaker 5: ten years ago? What are you talking about, Carter? I'm
- 22:57Speaker 5: talking about murder. You and Kinkaid killed Ert and buried
- 23:00Speaker 5: him down here.
- 23:01Speaker 7: That's ridiculous.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Probably did it so that you could seal an invention
- 23:03Speaker 5: of his, and you spread the word that he'd run
- 23:05Speaker 5: off of your fun.
- 23:05Speaker 7: You must be out of your mind. No, but I.
- 23:07Speaker 5: Imagine you were nearly out of your mind when Melvin
- 23:10Speaker 5: Dudley happened to mention to you that Kincaid was writing
- 23:12Speaker 5: his memoirs.
- 23:13Speaker 7: Why should not worry me because you guessed.
- 23:15Speaker 5: That he was planning to expose your part in the murder,
- 23:17Speaker 5: something he couldn't have done during his lifetime without incriminating himself.
- 23:21Speaker 5: When the police dig up Jarrett's.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Body, I'll never take it up because you won't be
- 23:24Speaker 2: alive to tell him about it.
- 23:26Speaker 7: Don't wait for your gun, Carter. I've got you both covered.
- 23:29Speaker 5: Hope. You made a bad mistake when you admitted that
- 23:31Speaker 5: your knew Kincaid was a dying man. That was a
- 23:34Speaker 5: tip off on you, especially since you neglected to tell
- 23:36Speaker 5: me that fact when you hired me. Well, I slipped
- 23:39Speaker 5: up once, but I won't slip this time. I'll take
- 23:42Speaker 5: you first, Carter, I'll hold.
- 23:44Speaker 4: I'll take you.
- 23:45Speaker 7: Drop your gun hold, I'll kill you.
- 23:48Speaker 4: You.
- 23:49Speaker 8: Oh nice shooting Nick.
- 23:53Speaker 5: You cut that gun right out of his fan, and
- 23:55Speaker 5: you made a nice dramatic and Prince Mary, well, you
- 23:58Speaker 5: set the stage for it when you put me behind
- 24:01Speaker 5: that packing box.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Oh, I thought you'd never come out of their sargean.
- 24:04Speaker 5: Yeah, a lot of ben out sooner, Patsy. Only my
- 24:06Speaker 5: pants got caught in the nail. Yeah, oh sarge Yeah,
- 24:09Speaker 5: and my new suit too. Okay, hope, let's get moving. No,
- 24:13Speaker 5: you're just hanging around this damp cellar and we got
- 24:15Speaker 5: a nice drive cell waiting.
- 24:17Speaker 7: For you down at headquarters.
- 24:26Speaker 4: Then Jared's thought he was buried in the saillar neck.
- 24:29Speaker 5: Yes, Patsy, and the case is closed.
- 24:31Speaker 6: Uh uh, not quite, m Harter, Not until you've told
- 24:34Speaker 6: me how Hole found out that Kincaid was dying of
- 24:37Speaker 6: heart trouble.
- 24:37Speaker 5: Well, according to his statement, Holt gave Maddy down at headquarters,
- 24:40Speaker 5: Kinkaid told him he did m When Holt went to
- 24:44Speaker 5: inquire about the memoirs, Kinkaid gloated that he'd be dead
- 24:47Speaker 5: in six weeks and that everybody would know that Holt
- 24:49Speaker 5: was a murderer.
- 24:50Speaker 4: But why on earth did Kincaid want to expose Hold.
- 24:53Speaker 5: Patsy, don't you remember what missus Holt told us that
- 24:55Speaker 5: she used to go with Kinkaid. Well, kin Kate never
- 24:58Speaker 5: forgave hold for taking her away from him.
- 25:00Speaker 4: I get it.
- 25:01Speaker 6: He couldn't get eaten with Holt until after he himself
- 25:04Speaker 6: was dead. That's right, Yeah, But I can't understand why
- 25:07Speaker 6: Holt brought.
- 25:07Speaker 4: You in on this case.
- 25:08Speaker 5: He didn't his wife did.
- 25:09Speaker 4: What do you mean it was her idea to are
- 25:11Speaker 4: you sure?
- 25:13Speaker 5: She knew nothing about the murder of Peter Jareded and
- 25:15Speaker 5: she had no idea that Holt had killed kin Kaid.
- 25:17Speaker 5: She just didn't believe that King Kid had killed himself.
- 25:19Speaker 9: M m.
- 25:20Speaker 6: And when she wanted to call you, her husband had
- 25:23Speaker 6: to agree with her so she wouldn't get suspicious of him.
- 25:25Speaker 6: That's just oh, brother, When you walked into that house
- 25:29Speaker 6: and took the case, it must have been the life's
- 25:31Speaker 6: darkest moment for Douglas Holt, the.
- 25:33Speaker 5: Darkest so far, Betsy. The state is planning an even
- 25:36Speaker 5: darker moment for him in the very near future.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Can you tell us something about the adventure new post
- 25:53Speaker 2: war old Dutch cleanser is going to bring us Next week, Nick,
- 25:55Speaker 2: next week, Mike, we're going to be the man who
- 25:57Speaker 2: is honest and upright for five years in order to
- 25:59Speaker 2: build up to fraud worth half a million dollars.
- 26:01Speaker 4: Only his plan broke down because he put his fraud
- 26:04Speaker 4: in an envelope.
- 26:05Speaker 5: Of fraud in an envelope. Well that sounds exciting. What
- 26:08Speaker 5: do you call this adventure? I call it the case
- 26:10Speaker 5: of the King's Apology. Friends. This is Nick Carter again,
- 26:19Speaker 5: and I'd like to take this opportunity on behalf of
