- 0:08There are rules to surviving a horror movie. Don't split up. Don't investigate the noise.
- 0:14And never say, "I'll be right back." Here, three friends break down the scares, the kills,
- 0:22the monsters, and the terrible decisions that got everyone there in the first place.
- 0:28We rate the scares. We roast the victims. And we ask the important question: Would we survive? So
- 0:38dim the lights, pour the drinks, and prepare for spoilers. This is the Scarier Things Club.
- 0:50Hello. Hi guys. Hey. Good morning. Good morning. Welcome to our first episode of the Scarier Things
- 0:56Club. We're doing it. Are y'all excited? Snaps for us. Very excited. Um, my name is Shannon. Um,
- 1:04here at the table with me I've got Beth and Mark. Um, and we really just our thing is we like scary
- 1:11movies. Um, the good and the bad, honestly. Sometimes the more cheesy it is, you could say,
- 1:18the better the movie is, right? More entertaining sometimes. More entertaining. Yeah. Um,
- 1:22and so we kind of started this on the idea of we like scary movies. Not everyone likes them. Um,
- 1:28and this is a place where we can come, we can watch them together and chat and honestly roast
- 1:34the people. I would say more than talk about we we listen and we judge. Absolutely. I am
- 1:41a professional judger. Yeah. Of all things at all times about anything. It's really actually
- 1:47a character flaw, but it's going to benefit me here today. Yes. And we love to beat a
- 1:51dead horse. Absolutely. The dead the better. And who doesn't love beating a dead horse? I mean,
- 1:58there's just so much. Um, there's also just tons of scary movies out there. And there's a lot I
- 2:03feel like there's like been a resurgence of like scary movies that have been released. Um, there's
- 2:08a lot coming out this year that I actually really want to watch. So, anyway, so that's kind of um,
- 2:13you know, we've got different uh, segments that we'll do kind of the same thing. We'll talk about
- 2:18um, would you survive? You know, we all kind of like to think that we would make better decisions.
- 2:23Um, for me that probably I just know in my normal life when I think that I'm making a good decision,
- 2:30most of the time it's not. Um, and so we'll talk about, you know, would you survive? What's
- 2:35the dumbest decision um that these characters are making? Um, there are, you know, general rules to
- 2:41surviving a scary movie. I always think of Scream when I think of those rules. That's kind of when I
- 2:46first learned about the rules to a scary movie. Um, and then we'll just, you know, yap and yap
- 2:51and chat. What do y'all think? Let's do it. Sounds good. So, so come and join us. Um to get started,
- 2:59I would like this is our first Scarier Things Club meeting and so each week we will start with
- 3:04what do you bring to the club? Um and that can be you know like what what's an update in your life?
- 3:10How are you feeling today? What's your vibe? Um did you bring anything like a show and tell? So,
- 3:16we actually have these beautiful fluted glass cups cups in front of us filled with a drink
- 3:22that Mark made us. Would you like to discuss what you brought today? Yes. This is the
- 3:26Pennywise Latte in honor of the movie It. And this is a white chocolate raspberry latte. Oh,
- 3:35it sounds delicious. What beans did you use for this latte? I used Arsaga beans. It's a
- 3:41local bean. Yes. And you guys like Arsaga? Is that like your bean of choice? I've actually never been
- 3:46to Arsaga. They they have some I mean it's not really any that's close by, but uh Walmart sells
- 3:54their beans locally and so Okay. That's where we usually pick them up at. But it's just it's just
- 3:59a good option. Yeah. Mark can tell the difference between an espresso bean or coffee bean the next
- 4:03one like a quality. Yeah. Honestly, I cannot. You could give me drip coffee and it would. I'm
- 4:12very picky when it comes to coffee beans. Now, I mean, Onyx beans are really good, too. That's
- 4:16another local local brand. I'm surprised that you didn't bring Onyx. Yeah, but I'm excited I mean,
- 4:23I like our Vegas, too. Yeah. Yeah. No, Onyx. Onyx is great. They are They're excellent.
- 4:29Um just they're in their own bracket. Price wise, for sure. We had some people Yeah. Unfortunately,
- 4:36we had some people come in from out of town and I was like, "You guys, we got to go to
- 4:40Onyx. It is like the best coffee I think in the country and like second overall in the world.
- 4:48That sounds right. I mean, it is it is excellent coffee. It's it's 100% if if you're in the area,
- 4:54it's worth worth taking a a trip to. And all the locations are beautiful and really unique and
- 4:59interesting. So, it's cool just to go into them. Like the one in Rogers is, I think, my favorite
- 5:03one. Yes. Um the Bentonville one is a lot more modern and kind of sterile feeling to me. Like
- 5:08everything's very mechanical exposed, but like the one in Rogers is like there's art everywhere,
- 5:17plants hanging down. It's very interesting. Yeah. Um so that's another thing I I did forget
- 5:23to mention. So we'll do one movie um for each episode. Um for our first one, we went with kind
- 5:29of a campy classic and we went with IT. Um Stephen King's original IT. And so that is kind of the the
- 5:37origin of the name behind this latte. It is the Pennywise Latte. So we do have a toast. Um so if
- 5:43you'll raise your glass now folks, this is the first time that we've done this toast together
- 5:47out loud. So if it's a little clunky, it'll get better. Um are we ready? Okay. To friendship,
- 5:54bad ideas, and great stories. And I even wrote it down and then I couldn't find it and I forgot it.
- 6:09Okay. They got some good ASMR there. Mhm. Now I'm like all the Soon I was like, "Oh,
- 6:15do we Yeah. Do we have mustaches? You do. Oh, a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. Love a little more.
- 6:23So, uh, Beth, did you bring a little more? Beth, did you bring napkins to the club?" I didn't bring
- 6:29napkins. You had one job. No, I Nobody has assigned me that job. You're right. We didn't
- 6:33I didn't think about I watched you foam and I I did think but I didn't I could have grabbed some
- 6:39paper towels. It's okay. It's a part of our charm. Yeah. Part of our charm. Yeah. Listen,
- 6:45who wants perfection? Who wants perfection? We are amateurs. Um so Beth has a podcast. I have a
- 6:51podcast. Mark is a novice on the mic, but I think he's going to do great. Um but kind of the beauty
- 6:56of this is that it's a low stress. We're just here to have a good time. Yeah. We're judging
- 7:01everybody else but not each other. So if you join the club, you're safe from our judging. I will
- 7:05say you can judge me. I would say a lot of times it's probably correct, you know. But yeah, but you
- 7:11are safe at the table for sure. Yeah. Um we're also in my home, which is not a podcast studio,
- 7:17so just deal with it. Okay. You get to look at my lovely wedding pictures in the background. Um
- 7:22there usually is a very messy high chair here. Um if you hear a dog barking, that's my dog, Edison.
- 7:30He's a crackhead. And I did give him a trazidone this morning and I don't even think you can tell.
- 7:37Have you ever taken trazadone? No. It's a human drug? I don't even know what that is. Yes. It's
- 7:42like a uh like a I should know this as a nurse, but it it helps like calm the mood, right? Oh,
- 7:48he's on gabapentin. Is he? Oh, does he need more? I don't have or tradone. Oh, gabapentin. Is it
- 7:57gab? Is it gabapentin? because I got a bunch of that I'm trying to get rid of. Oh my gosh,
- 8:00he's on Kepra. I'm so silly. He's on Kepra for seizures. He has seizures. He's on Prozac. We have
- 8:07to give him melatonin and calming treats at night to sleep. And then he gets PR and Trazadone. Oh,
- 8:13he is a high maintenance baby. Yes. And then if you see a cat jump up on the table, that is a very
- 8:19real possibility. A rare Luna sighting. Um right now she's she's sleeping. She's just a she's just
- 8:26a baby. Sweet. Um, okay. So, we've done our toast. We've have our latte. It is delicious. I do like
- 8:33it very much. Um, well, I'm scared to drink it more because I don't want to get foam all over my
- 8:38face. And also like the ice sound is really It is kind of satisfying though. It is nice. It's like,
- 8:45you know, that the meme with the girl that's like, "Tell me a sound that's better than this."
- 8:49And she like shakes her ice coffee. Yes. Um, so it's a good sound. Um I today to the club
- 8:56brought some club clown facts. So we are talking about IT. So I was thinking to myself where like
- 9:04why are clowns so freaky? What is like the first kind of scary clown? Um what makes them
- 9:10so spooky? And so you know clowns originated from like jesters like court jesters who were
- 9:17known to be like pranksters. They like to cause drama. Um, they like to joke with people. Um,
- 9:25they just cause a lot of problems. Sometimes, apparently, they were creepy and violent. Um,
- 9:30the first scary clown movie was from 1924. Um, I think it's like something about slapping in
- 9:37the in the title, the man who was slapped or something like that. But apparently, this guy is
- 9:42like a betrayed scientist who somehow turns into a clown and then uses a lion to kill people. Okay,
- 9:49so that's really cool. I would say the fear of clowns really blew up in the 1970s with Mr. John
- 9:55Wayne Gacy. Do you all know about him? Oh yeah, indeed. Pogo the clown that he was messed up
- 10:02little little bit. Little bit. Yeah. Um so that really I think kind of you know uh made the fear
- 10:08of clowns blow up. Um, and then so 10 years ago, I don't know if y'all remember this, in 2016,
- 10:16people were just dressing up as clowns, like scary clowns, and just like standing on street corners.
- 10:21Yep. Or like chasing people on hiking trails. Um, I thought multiple times living in Conway
- 10:28that I was going to be a victim to a scary clown. Are there a lot around the area? No,
- 10:33I just was like, there's going to be one and it's going to come find me. Well, and that's
- 10:39the thing about living where we do. I don't think we've said I mean, we've mentioned cities around,
- 10:43but we live in Northwest Arkansas. So, living in the American South and doing something like that,
- 10:50whether it's a prank or not, is a really good way to increase your chances of dying because people
- 10:56carry guns and will protect themselves from what is a real or perceived threat. Yes. So,
- 11:04um maybe if you're somewhere where you can't just carry a gun, Yeah. then you are more safe
- 11:12to do those shenanigans, but here it's unwise. Do not do it. Yeah. Um it's not cool either. So,
- 11:19just don't do it. I mean, I think it is kind of funny, but I mean, it would definitely get
- 11:23me. It would scare me. Okay. I was going to say funny funny to watch like the videos and stuff
- 11:27of it. I would hate if it happened to me. From the safety of my couch. Yes. Always. Yeah. What
- 11:33would you do if like just a I like Are you fight or you flight? Uh I think I'm flight. Well, yeah.
- 11:42I've never been put in a position where I where I don't know that something is like fake. So like
- 11:53in a haunted house, I actively avoid them because I just I just know I don't like that environment.
- 11:59But like when we did ghost hunting, I was like chill cuz I didn't really think anything would
- 12:05happen if something had happened. No, I'm freeze for sure because I definitely thought something
- 12:12happened and I just sat there and was like, what is that? What do I do? So, for some context,
- 12:19we are you talking about the Crescent Hotel? Yeah. Beth and I and two other of our gal pals,
- 12:24we um stayed at and like it's like the second most haunted room at the Crescent. Yeah. And um
- 12:30we like went on the ghost tour, did the things. We like tried to ghost hunt, but I don't think
- 12:36we got anything. We recorded audio, but I don't think either of us have even like listened to
- 12:41it. I think the only notable thing is if we can listen to one of our buds. She ripped a
- 12:47fart huge. We were like, "Can you hear it on the recording?" But we haven't gone back and listened
- 12:53to it. I forgot about that. Who was it? That was that me? No. No. Should we out her? I don't
- 12:59remember. Who was it? Oh, I remember I fart. I kept farting in like the little mini closet. Weird
- 13:08closet. Yeah. That we were like, "Beth the midget's going to come and get you." No. So,
- 13:14Beth had gotten up. Also, there was no ceiling fan in this room and it was so hot and Beth, Lindsey,
- 13:21and myself shared this king bed and it was just so uncomfortable. And Beth had gotten up in the
- 13:27middle of the night to go to the bathroom and had her phone flashlight on which then scared
- 13:32our other friend Sarah Beth who let out like this guttural like and so I think that made you scream.
- 13:39It did. And I just kind of like froze up and then I moved to the floor because there was a lot like
- 13:46there was a lot of body heat in that bed. And so I moved to the ground and I was like this is going
- 13:52to be fine. And at the time I was carrying like a massive water bottle with me everywhere. Yeah. So
- 13:59I had it next to my head but with all the lights off I didn't know exactly where it was. And I woke
- 14:07up and I guess I moved my head a little bit and so then the light to the alarm clock on the thing
- 14:15like on the nightstand disappeared. Yeah. And I thought some thing had moved in front of it which
- 14:21it had. I thought like a I thought maybe like Theodora was in there. Oh yes. And then but no
- 14:27it was just I was behind my water bottle. Yeah. Yeah, but I couldn't see cuz it was so dark and
- 14:32I just I literally froze and thought, "What do I do?" Because everybody else is asleep and I could
- 14:40cause a ruckus, but is that the best thing to do? Yes. Yeah. So, I think I'm a freeze I guess. Yeah,
- 14:47I guess I would freeze. So, there have been We'll We'll get to the the movie really quick,
- 14:51I promise. Um, there have been a couple times. So, there was one night where I had just gone out of
- 14:56the shower in our in our bathroom and I like you can't really see like the house behind us because
- 15:01it's like really wooded and like up a hill and so I like to have the windows open and so the window
- 15:06was open and I saw a flown a phone flashlight walk by. This was like at night and I was like, "Alek,
- 15:13is that you?" And I didn't hear anything. Um, so I came into the living room and I was like,
- 15:17"Alek is outside for some reason." And I walk in and he is asleep on the couch. And I was like,
- 15:22um, somebody was just in our backyard. Like, no lie. And so we got up, there was a car that was
- 15:29like just idling in our driveway. And, um, so I before then would have thought I was a freeze.
- 15:38But I have a machete by my bed. Okay. And in that moment, I was like, I'mma pull out my machete and
- 15:46go in this backyard and mess someone up. And I did. I went into the backyard and I had that
- 15:51thing. I was ready. Was that pre or post Jay? That was pre. Interesting. I thought maybe like
- 15:57motherhood brought it out on you. Well, and then Luna one night opened our garage door and set off
- 16:01our alarm and yeah, I got up and I was about to I was going to beat someone down. But if it was
- 16:07a clown, probably different story. Really? I don't know. They're so scary. They are. Even
- 16:13the ones that are supposed to look harmless. Yeah. Are scary. So, and because of that,
- 16:17psychologists say it's because their makeup hides like their real facial features, so you can't
- 16:22tell if they are like menacing or actually kind, which I feel like is similar to like RBF. It's
- 16:29like the clown version of RBF, you know? I follow that train of thought. Yes. Yes. Um, okay. So,
- 16:38shall we crack into it? So, at the beginning of each once we finally get through all of like our,
- 16:43you know, catch up and whatnot, we'll um dive into the movie. Um I think all of us really don't care
- 16:51about who directed these movies and like what else they've directed. No, I mean, kudos to you for
- 16:56directing a movie, but we just want to do like a quick this is what the movie's about and then get
- 17:01into the meat. Yeah. So, I'm sure it is notable like especially with some of the movies we'll
- 17:09watch, they'll have like super famous directors or you know that'll play into it. But we just care
- 17:16about the movie really like it's fine. We're just not going to talk about those things much. So,
- 17:23yes. Um, so this week we watched IT and we're talking about it as if it were a movie. we say
- 17:29movie, but it was actually a two-part miniseries on television in 1990. So, I am the same age as
- 17:36this film. And when I was sitting there thinking, I was like, "Ew, this looks old." Um, it me. Uh,
- 17:43so it was interesting to me that the book though was released in 1986 and then they so that quickly
- 17:50turned that into a huge TV event. So, the book must have just absolutely gone bananas. which
- 17:56it being a Stephen King book that makes sense. I guess that it would have been a huge release. Um,
- 18:02so the story revolves around this monster that can Oh, spoiler alert, by the way. We're going to talk
- 18:06about all the stuff. Yeah. And if you haven't seen the movie, honestly, at this point, it's
- 18:10your fault cuz it's old as we just established, but like turn it off, go watch it, then come back
- 18:15if you haven't seen it. But carve out a lot of time cuz it's 3 hours. Um, so the story revolves
- 18:20around a monster that can transform itself into its prey's worst fears. Um, so throughout the
- 18:27movie you can see it exploiting these fears and phobias of all the people that it is attacking and
- 18:32it mostly takes the form of Pennywise the clown played by the one and only Tim Curry. Wonderful.
- 18:39Um, and while we'll probably talk a lot about the clown as the main villain, that's really not
- 18:46the true form of this creature or monster. Um, so the protagonists here are the Lucky Seven or the
- 18:52Losers Club, just group of outcast kids, um, who first confront Pennywise as children in 1960. And
- 19:01then the second time or the second half or well, I say half, it flips back and forth between time
- 19:08periods, right? So the second time period you see them in is 1990 current time in quotes. um current
- 19:16for when it was released. When they return as adults to Derry the town they lived in to defeat
- 19:23him a second time after he comes back, it's like the creature from Jeepers Creepers like he comes
- 19:27back every 30 years or however many times. So with all that said, that's the gist of the movie. And
- 19:34so we're going to talk about like what stood out to us, what we liked, what we didn't like,
- 19:39what was surprising. I will kick it off by saying that I loved the music. Like that was something
- 19:47that I found myself I wouldn't say focusing on because then it's not good music if it's not
- 19:52just kind of background but it set the tone for the movie so well because it still had that like
- 19:58circus feel but there was also this oppressive sense of dread that also was intermingling with
- 20:06that which was just really interesting to be able to successfully balance those two things. Yeah.
- 20:12And there would just be some times like right off the bat at the beginning of the movie I was like,
- 20:17"Man, that's a cool little musical piece." And then like motif would come back through and it
- 20:22would like drop back here and there. Um yeah. Uh yeah, I was a big fan of the music on this one.
- 20:29Um that's really interesting. I did not really pay attention to the music at all. But um but like now
- 20:35that you say that yeah like a synth-y is that kind of like the right way to kind of like and I guess
- 20:42with it being a circus type sound. I don't really know how I don't know what circus music what you
- 20:48when you think of circus music what it's normally played on. I could have looked it up. Sure didn't.
- 20:53Um but it's also a little bit distorted this version of it. So it's like it should be that fun
- 21:00innocent thing you do with your family, but it's not and you can't really put your finger on like
- 21:06what's wrong with it. So kind of kind of out of tune a little bit. Yeah. Or just like the timing
- 21:11of it is like stretched out a little bit. Yeah. Slowed down some. Yeah. Yeah. I honestly like
- 21:18going into this I thought like I mean yeah it's a classic but I just didn't anticipate enjoying
- 21:24it as much as I did until the ending. Oh yeah, I hated the ending. Yeah, I didn't which we can
- 21:29get to that. But um and I thought the casting was so good. Okay, Seth Green. Whenever he came on,
- 21:36I was like, is that Seth Green? What is that? Like Dr. Evil's son, you know? Um I had completely
- 21:44forgotten that he was in it. And I thought he played like a fantastic young Richie. Yeah. Um
- 21:49which is like my favorite character anyway. Um but yeah, the kid matches to the adults were really
- 21:54good. They did a great job with that. Yeah. And I really just thought it was going to be so cheesy.
- 22:00Um, and I remember like the scenes of Pennywise. Um, and like as a kid, wow. Like he he freaked
- 22:09me out watching it now as an adult. I was like, "Okay, this like you know, like the storytelling
- 22:14was so good." Um, but I was I really could not get over like Seth Green being in this and and yeah,
- 22:21the casting and like the matching of like the young kids to the adults, but also like the
- 22:25transformations that they I guess I didn't like put it together that they whenever they left
- 22:30Derry, they like had forgotten everything. Yeah, that took me a while cuz I haven't watched this
- 22:34since a very very long time ago. Like I probably was only halfway paying attention as a kid even
- 22:41when it was on. So, all of that stuff I it took me a while to like piece together. I'm like, why
- 22:49why are his parents not freaking out that there's blood all over this all over their floor right now
- 22:54or whatever? And then it took me until like Bev's house to realize that her dad couldn't see what
- 23:00she was seeing. Mhm. Um and so then I was like, "Oh, cuz I have my notes. I just kind of do like
- 23:05a stream of consciousness thing while I'm watching it." And so part of my notes are like, "Oh, they
- 23:09can't see it." Okay. you know. Um, so figuring it out, it was nice to be able to not know everything
- 23:17that was happening, even though I I thought I knew what to expect. Yeah. But to still be surprised by
- 23:22some things. So, you you both saw this as kids. Yes. I watched it with my dad. He was like really
- 23:29Well, my dad likes scary stuff. Um, but yeah, so we watched it. Okay. So, I was kind of wondering
- 23:34because it's an interesting take to see it as a kid and then also see it as an adult. Mhm. Um,
- 23:39fun fact, I saw this when it aired uh back in No Way I did. It was 1990. I was seven years old. Oh,
- 23:46yeah. I guess you were. And that's everybody when whenever whenever these things happened, it was it
- 23:51was a major event. Yeah. And when Stephen King released the miniseries, that's what everybody
- 23:56did. I think it was on Sunday nights or something like that. And so that's what you did because if
- 24:00you didn't watch it, you were going to be the kid on the playground that didn't know anything about,
- 24:05you know, the movie that everybody's talking about. And of course there was no reruns or
- 24:10anything like that. You just had one shot to see this film. Oh, really? Oh, yeah. And so,
- 24:18yeah. And I remember it aired on ABC. Yeah. And I remember it was it was terrifying watching it as
- 24:23a kid, but then but then yeah, watching it now as an adult, I was I was like, okay, it's really not
- 24:29that scary, but it does have some creepy elements to it for sure. The story is so good. Like I guess
- 24:35like it hits different age groups differently, right? Because as a kid you're like, "Oh my gosh,
- 24:41this imagery is so scary." And now we look back at it also because the time difference like if
- 24:47they remade this, which they have, but like if they one for one shot this, like it would still
- 24:54look a lot different because our technology is is different even if they hadn't changed what
- 25:00Pennywise looked like and all that stuff. like it would just look more realistic because we have
- 25:04better special effects now. Yeah. Um so we also see it we're kind of spoiled in that way of like
- 25:11oh this isn't that scary cuz the blood looks like you know red paint or whatever. It's not doesn't
- 25:15look like blood. Yeah. Um but that also could have been because it was on TV and they have
- 25:20to like mess with ratings I guess a little bit. But the true but with Stephen King like you can
- 25:27trust you're going to get for one, some disturbing stuff. Yeah. for two, good storytelling. Like I've
- 25:34never read or watched something of his that the story itself was not really really interesting.
- 25:43Yeah. Um he is a has a twisted mind. Speaking of being for TV, was anybody else just like befuddled
- 25:53by the casual use of slurs? I mean, it was by like a villain character, so it's not like it was like,
- 26:02"Oh, this is normal or an okay thing to do. It was the the bad kid that was doing it,
- 26:08but like I was just surprised to hear it period." I was like, "Surely," cuz it's on ABC. Surely they
- 26:13censored that. I honestly don't remember. I mean, you wouldn't remember, but like too too long ago.
- 26:19So, but that was kind of it set me on my heels a little bit because I did not expect to hear some
- 26:25of those things. To speak my truth, there were a couple times where I was not doing a whole lot at
- 26:31work and so I was like, gonna watch this because it is so long. It is so long. And like I heard
- 26:36a couple things and I was like, turn it down. Turn it down. Like don't hear that. Um but yeah,
- 26:41now that you mentioned it. Yeah. Um cuz it was by what was that? What was that kid? Henry,
- 26:46was it Bowers? Yes. Henry Bowers. The greaser kid. Yeah. What an awful kid. Awful. He just was scum.
- 26:53He deserved He deserved what he had coming. That was my first note about him was like I I'm ready
- 26:57for him to get got. Was he awful or was he being controlled by as a child? No. No, he was terrible.
- 27:03Okay. He was just terrible. He was terrible as a kid at first. Yeah. But then but then Pennywise
- 27:10was controlling him. I don't think Pennywise was probably like stalking him like the others. Which
- 27:15also I wonder if he stalked like all of the kids the way he stalked like this group. At one point I
- 27:21was like, "This is giving Vecna." Yeah. cuz they had already they just mentioned it in passing.
- 27:29Mhm. There had already been six six missing or dead and then they got you got that little girl
- 27:36at the beginning which that I was watching that I completely forgotten about that too. And like as
- 27:42soon as that clothes line came up I was like oh I don't want to watch this. I remembered it and that
- 27:47terrified me. Mhm. Like as a kid and then as an adult that was very unsettling. Yeah. I mean, how
- 27:53about like never play outside by yourself? I guess not. No. Be Which is I mean, when I was a kid, we
- 27:59ran around the neighborhood just whatever. However I will say this, a clothes line has always scared
- 28:06me. Yeah. Because you can't see what's behind it. And I think Halloween scared like ruined clothes
- 28:12lines for me. So, thank goodness for washers and dryers because if everybody had just clothes lines
- 28:18out and about, I would not be able to leave my house. Okay, we'll have to That one's definitely
- 28:22on the list to watch cuz I don't know. That does not like mean anything to me. That is my favorite
- 28:28film in the history of the world. Okay. And it'll be interesting to hear Yeah. your perspective on
- 28:32it cuz I watched it growing up as a kid. So like obviously it was scary to me. Yeah. But um and
- 28:38we rewatch it every year cuz we both love it. But yeah, it'll be interesting to hear a fresh fresh
- 28:43pair of eyes on it. But perfect. Um let's see what else. So, for you guys, what do you think was like
- 28:49the best jump scare? Um, or like the best what was like the best kill, you know? I don't know about
- 28:56the best like for I don't know about the best kill, but definitely to me the creepiest part was
- 29:01when Beverly went to see where she went to her old house. Oh, yeah. And Mrs. Kersh was there. Yeah.
- 29:10And then that whole sequence where, you know, she basically her teeth turn turn black and then, you
- 29:17know, she turns into basically I guess her father, like a zombie version, then he starts chasing her
- 29:23and she runs out onto the street and turns around. The whole the whole house is like boarded up.
- 29:27Right. And so I thought that was a pretty cool pretty cool scene and also pretty creepy. Yeah.
- 29:32When she's like when the old lady is like guzzling the tea and then it's like blood. Yeah. That part
- 29:37always like I'm like gave me gave me chills. As a kid, the scene in the library where he was um kind
- 29:47of terrorizing adult Richie. Oh yeah. That used to scare me. But then I was like watching I was like,
- 29:53"Oh, this is the thing that used to scare me." And then I watched it and I was like, "Why? Why
- 29:57did I get so scared?" Maybe because there's a lot of blood in it. Maybe. Yeah. I don't know.
- 30:01Are you afraid of balloons popping? I do not like balloons popping. So many. Yeah. There's a lot of
- 30:07and like the blood like spurts on the people's face. Yeah, I was thinking about that and like
- 30:12that scene and I was like I could not not jump like if I were like when they were filming that.
- 30:18I don't know how those people stayed stone still. Um but I also love that part because Tim Curry
- 30:24was absolutely unhinged and he must have had like the most fun filming that. Could you imagine like
- 30:31that being your day job? Like that being your job? No. And he's such a good actor. He's one of those
- 30:36people kind of like Johnny Depp to me that they will play a character where you are loaded down,
- 30:42will put on any makeup, take on any appearance and fully commit to it. Like he's had some like major
- 30:51like makeup prosthetic type roles. Like there was this one um Frank N. Furter from Rocky Horror and
- 30:58then he was in I which I have not seen the movie Legend but he's some demon in it and it took like
- 31:045 and 1/2 hours to put him in that get up. He was like fully red and stuff which absolutely ripped
- 31:11like shredded. I don't know if that's his body, but I would have never thought I was I was looking
- 31:18at images and I was like, "Excuse me. We need the workout routine. We need the protein grams."
- 31:25That's hilarious. I don't know what you're talking about, but I I mean, I honestly I don't know what
- 31:28I'm talking about either, but uh cuz I'd never even heard of the movie. Is it scary? I don't know
- 31:34if it's like that or if it's more action because I think Tom Cruise is in it. I have no idea what
- 31:39it's about. I just was like, "Oh, there's another super like major prosthetics character he did."
- 31:45Okay. And I was looking at images of it and I did not investigate the movie at all. Perfect. Yeah.
- 31:51No, I do love him in Rocky Picture. Yeah. Was it Rocky Horror Picture Show? Yeah. He's fantastic.
- 31:57Um, yeah, that library scene. I'm trying to think of like as a kid, oh, as a kid, what messed me up
- 32:04was the shower, like him coming out of the storm drain. And there was like a time where I had
- 32:11gotten like one of those texts when I was younger. It was like, "Send this to 10 of your friends or
- 32:17um to like get the curse lifted off of you." And it was this girl who could like get you through
- 32:21the shower drain. And I was like, "What if it actually is like Pennywise?" And so that messed
- 32:26me up as a kid. It is always like people love to capitalize on a shower drain. Why? I don't know.
- 32:33Maybe because you don't know what's down there. It's because you're vulnerable in that in that
- 32:35statee. Well, yeah, that's true. You are. And also the toilet. I'm terrified of something coming up
- 32:42through the toilet. I was like, okay. Yeah. Like to this day or to this day? Okay. Like a snake
- 32:48or something? Mhm. That specifically? Oh, because that happened to you to me? No. And I don't even
- 32:54know if what I've seen online is real. I you never know. I'm so scared of it because it's just like
- 32:59you wouldn't know. Yeah. Until it is far too late. So I mean the worst thing I mean the thing that
- 33:05I kind of think about sometimes is like a brown recluse spider. New fear unlocked if you haven't
- 33:12thought of that. In the toilet. Well yeah they like damp they like damp places. But would it be
- 33:16in the water or would it be in the No. Even worse it probably be under be under the rim. But if you
- 33:21like sat on it, you know, like then you squish it. Squish it. Well, but got the fear though. Yeah.
- 33:27The venom see through your bottom. I don't know. They need to do a Mythbusters or something. No,
- 33:32no, no. It's got a No. It's got a It's got a bite. Yeah. No, no, you sit on it. We do have brown
- 33:41recluses in Arkansas. We do. We definitely do. That and black widows. It's fun. Yeah. Yeah. Um,
- 33:47as a kid, I don't know why, but I was convinced that Pennywise lived in the
- 33:52shed in my sister's backyard. And so, I would not go out there or like if I was out there,
- 33:57I would like make someone like stand and like watch me. I don't know why. I just was like,
- 34:01he's in there. I had a lot of irrational kid like fears as a kid. Nobody told you that he was. No,
- 34:07I made I completely made it up in my head. If he is okay. Yeah. And I just knew in my gut. I was
- 34:12like, he's I mean, he could be, you know, that's where your fear is. Yeah. Yeah. That's where
- 34:17That's where your fear is. And that's how he gets Yeah, exactly. So, that's like I I was like, man,
- 34:22he could have had a lot of uh a lot of material to work with with me as a kid. Did um anybody else
- 34:30feel a little bit off center? I feel like maybe I have been a victim of Mandela effect. I thought
- 34:37the balloon was red and he used a yellow balloon like primarily throughout the um when it was a
- 34:43singular balloon a lot of the time it was yellow. Oh, I wonder if you feel like it was red because
- 34:48I feel like have you seen the remake? Yeah, I feel like the remake had I've seen the remakes
- 34:52but I've totally forgotten almost everything about them. Wow. That's that's the IT effect,
- 34:58right? Forget about it. Also, I just don't retain things very well. Like well movies, TV shows I
- 35:05forget. I can remember a song word for word from whenever like but yeah this kind of thing I watch
- 35:13I take it in and then it's a brain flush and then it's gone. Yeah. Yeah. See I still haven't watched
- 35:17part two of the new one. I've only seen part one. No there's they're fantastic. They're really good.
- 35:24There's I need to and especially after watching the old one again. I think now it's would be a
- 35:29good time for to go back and revisit that. They're very different from much darker. I think Yeah,
- 35:34definitely. I mean much darker and they're definitely in my opinion what I've seen so far
- 35:38is you know they're definitely scarier. Yeah. As far as you know the the visual effects are
- 35:43much more realistic and Yeah. of course the and I've seen the scene that is actually kind of the
- 35:49remake of the the Mrs. Kersh scene and that that's terrifying. Yes it is. So I don't know. It's just
- 35:55it's weird that that like took some which I don't know that could be closer to the book. It may be,
- 36:00but like what's weird for me is is that it's so hard to watch uh like a three-hour Yeah. movie or,
- 36:09you know, we we struggled to get through this one. But what's weird is that I can sit down or we can
- 36:14sit down and watch a TV show. We can binge it all day long. And but for some reason, a three-hour
- 36:22movie, it's like, maybe we need to go get diagnosed with some ADHD. Oh, yeah. Short. maybe
- 36:29shorter attention span than I think like with TV shows I think it's just they're they're chunks
- 36:33but then they put cliffhangers at the end and so they're like I got Yeah, that's true. Or like the
- 36:40resolution is so much faster. Yeah. Yeah. More instant gratification. Yeah, I think so. I think
- 36:45that's that must microwave society. The problem with our generation, as some would say. Yeah. Um,
- 36:53I think I also really enjoyed the um when they're like all looking at that book that Mike had. Is it
- 36:59Mike? Yes. And um like when Pennywise like comes through the page. That was creepy. And like the
- 37:05glove shoves up like Yeah. into the air. But then I did kind of laugh whenever Stan's like, "No,
- 37:10no." And they're all like, "Yes, yes, yes, you did. You did see that." Um that that scene scared
- 37:17me a lot as a kid, too. Yeah, I'd forgotten about that. But that part was actually that I think that
- 37:23scene still holds up pretty well. I think there's a lot that is just you're like, "Okay, this is
- 37:29definitely made 35 years ago or whatever." But that Yeah, that'll creep you out. Yeah. You see
- 37:36that in modern horror movies where they're looking at a photo and it comes to life. Yeah. You know,
- 37:41so that's definitely a mechanic that's still used. Yeah. Why did they think, and maybe I just missed
- 37:48it, why did they think that silver would kill the clown? Like, what was the logic? Probably because
- 37:54that was like that's kills a werewolf, but yeah, I mean, it's just And I say that like it's real. I
- 37:58mean, it will kill a werewolf. Yeah, of course. Scientifically, it will kill a werewolf. So,
- 38:02why wouldn't it kill Penny Pennywise? Also, those earrings were hideous. Yeah, it looked up like
- 38:07chewed up. It looked like a chewed up gum wrapper. Like, she's honestly, he did her a favor stealing
- 38:12those. Yeah, cuz those were not cute. Yeah. Um, as we judge. As we judge. Yeah. Yeah. And she's ugly.
- 38:23I love that. Uh, but who am I to judge? Who am I to judge? Yeah. Me with my no earrings. It's
- 38:30really It's just jealousy. Do you not have earrings? I used to. And then I never wore
- 38:36earrings. And so like throughout high school and stuff cuz I was doing sports and stuff,
- 38:40there was really no reason. Yeah. Um and so then when I got into college and I was doing
- 38:48choir in college, they gave us like part of the uniform were these earrings. Oh. And I was like,
- 38:53"Oh yeah, I have pierced ears, bet." And no, I could get one of them in and the other one had
- 38:58grown up. And I tried. Did you? I tried and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I was not a strong
- 39:03enough girl. And I just said, "You know what? You can dock me a couple of points on my grade
- 39:08because for an earring, I wore my hair down. They couldn't tell. Okay, that's great. Yeah,
- 39:13but anyway, so my I don't wear earrings. I could get them repierced, but also why? Yeah. I mean,
- 39:19I'm just like a stud girly, so that's all. But I'm like a minimal jewelry person. Me, too. If
- 39:23it doesn't mean something, I'm not really going to wear it. I don't do things just for the kicks and
- 39:29giggles. Like everything that I wear, I wear it all the time because it's either a wedding ring,
- 39:33this bracelet that we have like it's family stuff, you know. Yeah. But yeah. All right. So, you know,
- 39:40in each in each scary movie, um there's typically like the fatal flaw. That's the
- 39:46or the fatal decision. Um and so that's kind of what we want to we want to talk about, too. So,
- 39:52what do y'all think the dumbest decision was in this movie? At first I'm thinking like this that
- 39:57poor little girl at the very beginning like just standing there like girl I would have been I would
- 40:02have been running. I would have been screaming to get my mama. Um and then then like obviously just
- 40:09um going down into the into the sewer. Terrible decision. And to go back to just don't to make
- 40:17the promise. Yeah. Like to be like promise me that you'll come back. No. No. Sorry. And to come back
- 40:23and have dinner like okay. Oh yeah. But to to to say, "Yeah, we're going to do it. We're going to
- 40:28go back down in there after you've already seen this thing once." Yeah. All right. No way. Also,
- 40:33I did want to make a note like that whole Chinese restaurant scene was so unhinged.
- 40:37Like Bev is passing out. Richie's like screaming. She immediately kisses Bill. Yes. Who was married.
- 40:45Yeah. Right. And he's just like, "Yeah, this is fun." Yes. Um What? But I was like,
- 40:51why did why does nobody but that must be like the effect of Derry. Like no one ever came to
- 40:56check on them. Like can they can they even see what's happening? Like in this group room I was
- 41:00like what is happening? True. And um one thing I thought like what what would your fortune cookie
- 41:07be? You know like it went crazy. Like everybody had a different one. So like was there one that
- 41:13like really stuck out to you that you were like oo that would have been bad? I don't
- 41:17like the claws like little claws. little crab one. Yeah, the the one for me was the
- 41:23um the little slimy bird thing that was on the table. I think it might have been Mike, but like
- 41:29it was like a naked bird baby. Yeah. Slimy thing just laying on the table. That was gross. Yeah,
- 41:37mine would have been the one that had I think it had a spider leg that poked out of it. Oh, yeah.
- 41:41You don't like Yeah, I do not like spiders. Well, so okay. So then the end should have been No, no,
- 41:47it was It didn't hold up. No, it didn't. And that's that's the thing. I was like,
- 41:51it was so good until the end. And I was just like, that's how it that's that's how they kill it. I
- 41:59can't remember like Yeah. Was it Was it It wasn't with the albuterol. I keep doing this. No. No,
- 42:04it wasn't with the albuterol. That actually did nothing. U It was It was the silver through the
- 42:09through the chest. Yeah, basically is what did it. But yeah, I mean I was I was kind of disappointed
- 42:14cuz now it's been it may have actually been since 1990 since I've seen this. Wow. Um so I did not
- 42:23recall that the spider I remember I remember the spider but I didn't recall that that was
- 42:29that was it the monster. I remember think I think I actually asked you last night that I was like
- 42:34was wait Pennywise was the spider the spider was Pennywise. What what's the deal? Yeah, cuz I was
- 42:40expecting a clown at the end, you know, that they were going to beat a clown. And so, yeah, I was I
- 42:46was very very disappointed with that. So, Mhm. I would also say like poor Eddie trying to um Eddie
- 42:55like that was a dumb decision, I think, cuz he's just so wimpy. Like, so brave. He was brave. He
- 43:03I mean he tried but also okay what I didn't get he was told that his asthma medication was a placebo.
- 43:16Why did he I'm dead. Sorry. I was like vacuum like tried to I was like what who who is here?
- 43:25I feel like I was like did I touch something? I was scared. um dead cuz I could only hear it like
- 43:30through the styrofoam selected room cleaning, but he was told that his medication was a placebo. And
- 43:37then he continued to get the prescription filled. Yeah. So, I thought about that. I was wondering
- 43:41if maybe it didn't work because it wasn't water because the the second time around it was actually
- 43:47albuterol because and then the the guy even the old pharmacist was sitting there says it was only
- 43:51water. It's it's or it's water or something like that. And so maybe it was water that he
- 43:57should have had to spray the spider and but it lives in the sewer around a lot of water. Hey,
- 44:01I don't make the rules. He loves water. Everybody floats, which also nobody floated. Okay,
- 44:06I was going to not single person. Why is that a thing in the in the remake, which I guess you
- 44:12guys haven't or don't remember like they float? I mean, I guess Audrwa s suspended in the web,
- 44:20but that's the only float adjacent thing that was in the movie. But he made great point to say,
- 44:27"You'll float." Yes. Nobody's floating. Which like we haven't talked about like how that traumatized
- 44:35me to storm drains. And even still as an adult, I would say I if I can avoid it, I will avoid it.
- 44:43And he's like, "The storm blew me away." I'm like, "So creepy." Yeah. Poor Georgie. Also, I guess I'd
- 44:52forgotten that like he just only ate body parts and like didn't eat like the whole thing because
- 44:56like bodies would be left. Yeah. Like mutilated. Yeah. That's don't like that. Um it reminds me
- 45:04of like her legs were cut off, her arm was cut off. Have you heard that clip? No. No. Oh my
- 45:10gosh. I think it's like from like a true crime, but it's like this guy he's like her legs were
- 45:14cut off. Her arms were cut off. Her head was cut off. Just like super dead. Yeah. Pin. No. Okay.
- 45:20And I didn't which Mark and I had to look up the re Eddie's speaking of Eddie his revelation before
- 45:27they go and fight. But oh goodness like hey guys I've never been with anybody before and we're like
- 45:35okay I forgot about that. That's as good a time as any to talk about this. And everybody's like
- 45:40it's fine. We love you too. And then let's go kill this monster. It was so strange. That was weird.
- 45:46But we looked it up why and um it's like a slight reference to what happens in the book. Oh. Oh,
- 45:59bad. That's bad. Which they could not put that on TV. Should never shouldn't have been in the
- 46:05in the book. Why was it in the book? To be as Yes. I have not read the book, but I remember
- 46:11I don't and I don't remember who read the book, but someone telling me about this thing and I
- 46:16was like that wasn't in the movie. No. So, but okay. But like why leave that out? And I'll just
- 46:23say if you're like what are they talking about? Look it up for yourself. Yeah. I mean there it's
- 46:27just there there's special friendship time between people who shouldn't be having special friendship
- 46:33time. Correct. Yeah. And he felt the need. I wonder why they kept that in. I don't know. I
- 46:39guess maybe to like they acknowledge it. I guess maybe it must have been a huge controversy when
- 46:45the book came out. I guess because I guess maybe they had to like reference it in some
- 46:50way instead of just taking it out. Maybe they felt like that was the best thing to do. Yeah.
- 46:55I don't know. I had forgotten about that. In the remake, he's gay and apparently in the book he and
- 47:04Richie are like closer than Yes. in that than the show kind of insinuates. Yes. Which they
- 47:12the um golly the greaser kid Henry he called him and I mean he called him like [ __ ] or whatever
- 47:23which you knew was to mean that he was calling him gay as a kid. Oh, I didn't know that. Um,
- 47:30but like that was one of the things it was like going down the whole group of like you're this,
- 47:35you're the word that shall not be said. You're And then he was like another another racial slur.
- 47:41And then and I was like, "Oh, wow. They're just hitting all of the the bad things that you could
- 47:48possibly say." They also must have been like really fat phobic. Yes. In that time. Yeah. Um,
- 47:54absolutely. because he was I look at like kids today. I'm like he maneuvered his life like a
- 48:02normal person. Yeah. Oh yeah. I mean yeah he ended up uh as as an adult he comes out there and he's
- 48:09like this you know Ronnie Dunn looking Yeah. Yeah. dude. Well even as a kid though I mean like you
- 48:16he he could do all the stuff normal kids could do. It wasn't like he was unhealthy to a point that he
- 48:24couldn't live his life. It's so It was such I mean kids are mean. Yeah. But it was excessive. It was
- 48:31a lot. It was a lot. Yeah. Like that was his whole character as a child. And I'm like is that really
- 48:37the Well, but I guess that's like what what you know the losers club like they really capitalized
- 48:43on Yeah. what made them different? I guess so. And how about that medical miracle bike ride?
- 48:50That was an unconventional treatment. I know. I know. That was also I was like,
- 48:54"Okay, I'm I'm checked out. Like, I'm done." Um I thought that was I thought that was dumb. I mean,
- 49:02they absolutely would have gotten hit by a car. You know, that that would have happened. Yeah.
- 49:06And every single person just getting out of the car, I'm being like, "Oh." Like, "This is so
- 49:10dumb. They're just making out the street." Yes. Like, "Why did you stop there? Pull over. Get
- 49:14on the sidewalk. Have some respect. people got work to go. We got we got places to be. Yeah,
- 49:19absolutely. I had forgotten that like the whole there was like the whole thing with
- 49:24Audra and that he like got her. Honestly, in the in the book it must have been more of a plotline
- 49:32because it was kind of a non issue like he saw her hanging there and then they saved her. I
- 49:38mean I forgot he was even married like halfway. So Oh, was that before or after he kissed Bev?
- 49:45I mean, when when when when he kissed Beverly, I I it didn't even dawn on me that he was married. I'd
- 49:50already forgotten about Audra. I didn't realize they were married, but I was definitely like,
- 49:52"You got a lady back in wherever." Yeah. And a pretty one. Like, come on, man. Yeah. An actress.
- 49:58And her manager guy or whatever. Oh, terrible. What? Oh, and he's. Yeah. He's like, "Well,
- 50:04he's gone." I know. And I'm like, "And now, no." But for me, dumbest decision was Bill's ponytail.
- 50:12There was there was no reason for that character to have that ponytail. It was
- 50:17so bad. He looked like a pilgrim from the back. He did. There was no reason that big old mole on
- 50:22his face too. Yeah. Like Yes. That's a defining character of that. Like it's not even like, oh,
- 50:27we have to differentiate between all these mid like 30s white men. Like there's no He
- 50:34had that facial feature which is like sets him apart. The kid didn't have super long hair.
- 50:40No. Yeah, there's no reason. It's like It's like a Violet Beauregard. Wait. Yeah,
- 50:46that's Baudelaire. I just watched Charlie the Chocolate Factory last night. I was like, "Okay,
- 50:52Blueberry where she's fresh on my mind." No, she's like Violet Bottle. Baudelaire. Did you ever read
- 50:57the Series of Unfortunate Events? I did, but it's been She had like the hair and like whenever she
- 51:02would like tie it up in a ribbon was like when she was getting like her fancy ideas. Yeah. Okay,
- 51:09maybe it helps. Maybe that's where the power is for his writings. Some detail. I mean, you know,
- 51:14pull in was it Samson? Samson. Yes. Um, so we've talked a little bit about club rules or well,
- 51:21not about movie rules, but we Yeah, let's let's talk about the club rules or the rules that
- 51:27uh we would follow to survive Pennywise. And I'll start. Uh, don't make out with Beverly. Oh,
- 51:35I mean I get maybe she's like a black widow type. I mean Oh, everybody Well, no. Bill lived. Well,
- 51:43Bill and I guess they all lived. Just I can't imagine the the traumatic experience it would
- 51:47be. You know, he was uh Ben was making out with Beverly and then it turned out to be Pennywise.
- 51:53Oh, that's right. Yeah. I forgot about that. That I think was done so well like whenever he pulls
- 52:00back and there's like the makeup or like in the mirror he sees like And that was I got chills when
- 52:05you just described it actually. That was good. I forgot about that. Yeah, it was well done.
- 52:09Um I you know just like don't run amuck in your neighborhood as a child. Um and don't split up.
- 52:15Always. Always a solid rule in a horror movie. But if they had not split up, Mike wouldn't have got
- 52:21stabbed. And it was funny cuz they actually made that point. They said literally right before, hey,
- 52:27don't split up. And then they get up to the top of the stairs and then and leave your doors open.
- 52:32Yeah. and he didn't have time to close the door. So if he had left the door open unless Pennywise
- 52:38through his magic of possession or whatever closed the door for him because he was in a struggle with
- 52:44Henry. Yeah. So Henry couldn't have closed the door. I don't think unless I missed that. I don't
- 52:50think so. He just like shows up. He literally came out the bathroom. Could be a continuity
- 52:54issue I guess. But it's a pretty big plot point that they're like, "We can't get in and it so like
- 53:00they didn't get there in time to pull him off of him." Yeah. As much. I don't know. I had forgotten
- 53:05that like Mike doesn't even go into the sewer for like the last like the last battle. I was like,
- 53:10"Oh, okay." He called him all back there and was like, "See you." Yeah. Okay. I did my part. Well,
- 53:16I mean, I guess technically he went down by himself once to get those earrings. So,
- 53:20he really did more than everybody else. Wow. Yeah. You guys remember more than I did? Oh,
- 53:26we just finished that yesterday. Yeah. Very good. Very good. It's quite fresh. I would say another
- 53:31rule is move out of Derry. That's what I said. Yeah. Don't come back. Just leave. It's that
- 53:36easy. Just leave for I mean this is morbid, but it's like it's somebody else's kids. It's not your
- 53:42like you don't live there. It's not your family or anything. Like you're just going back because
- 53:47you said you would go if it ever came back. Like it's not really affecting you in Chicago, in LA,
- 53:53in wherever. like let them deal with it. Didn't they say that the parents basically knew about
- 53:58this whole thing and they just chose to ignore it? It was like a whole like all of the adults
- 54:03just kind of were like apathetic or I don't know if it's something like his Pennywise's like magic
- 54:10only worked on kids and like the adults were just kind of like immune to it. Um well that one guy
- 54:16that they showed basically he just he saw what was going on with the the bully was what was his name?
- 54:23Henry, I can't remember his name. Henry. Yeah, Henry. And he was picking on maybe an Eddie at
- 54:28the time or something. And then that old guy they showed on his on his porch and he saw what
- 54:32was going on and he just turned around. Yeah. He turned around and walked off. He turned he turned
- 54:36a blind eye to it. And so I took it that basically the adults knew something was wrong, but none of
- 54:44them ever wanted to do anything about it because they even mentioned about how the police like we
- 54:49can't call the police or anything like that. So to me it's like this is a town where they've accepted
- 54:56this whole thing. So yeah, why go back to it, you know, just leave. Maybe that I don't we haven't
- 55:03watched Welcome to Derry. We've watched maybe one episode. So maybe they explore that more in why
- 55:10it's why it's in Derry or why Derry is the way it is. Um yeah. So, we've got rules that we've had,
- 55:18but I I mean, would you We know the rules. We know what it takes, I guess, to increase your chances,
- 55:27but do you think you would survive? I said probably not because like I said earlier,
- 55:33Pennywise would have had a lot of things to work with on me as a kid. That was exactly my
- 55:39thought process as well. Yeah. Like he would have I would have gotten got Yeah. Yeah, he would have
- 55:44had a field day honestly. Oh, for sure. Maybe he wouldn't have gotten me cuz it would be like
- 55:48decision overload and he'd be like, "There's too much. I don't even know which one thing to focus
- 55:52on to get her." It's like that meme. Have you seen the meme of like the lady and it's like Tylenol,
- 55:57whatever enters my body and she's like she doesn't know where to start. Yeah, that's what he would
- 56:02have been like. He would have been that meme. Yeah. I think uh so I did I actually thought about
- 56:07this two ways. Uh I think as a kid it would be an epic fail. He would probably get me. As an adult,
- 56:15no way. No way. You're not going back. I I'm not going back. Ah, you're smarter. Not going back.
- 56:20I You know, if you live through that, you go down into the sewer, you beat Pennywise,
- 56:24you go through all that traumatic experience. Yeah. And then there, you know, they gather
- 56:29around. Promise me you'll come back. Like, sorry, man. Not not going to make that promise. Yeah. No,
- 56:34definitely not. I mean, I think I would have been I mean, I would have been gone quick, fast,
- 56:38and in a hurry. Like, I would have been Laurianne first one. So, but if I happen to make it through,
- 56:44I wouldn't go back. First one. Oh, that's funny. Yeah. No, my word means nothing, you know. Oh,
- 56:54absolutely. No, I'm not going to They didn't even remember half of these people. Exactly. You know,
- 56:58you're a kid when you make You can't You can't make a promise when you're a kid and then,
- 57:02you know, honor it 30 years later. Yeah. I mean, Georgie's already dead, dude. Like, well,
- 57:07but then he forgot. And he was like, "I forgot. I you know I told you my brother died. I forgot
- 57:13he was murdered. That was really dramatic. Yeah. Um so maybe as an adult I don't know. I guess it
- 57:22just depended on like how persuasive like whoever was like calling me back was you know but yeah
- 57:29unfortunately I think I would be like well I mean those people who live in Derry could also leave
- 57:34too. So true. Yeah. I wonder like how did he wind up in Derry? But that's like Stephen King's thing,
- 57:41right? Like all of his movies take place in Maine. I think so. Yeah. I think so.
- 57:45Yeah. Cuz uh what's it Rose Red? I think is there what's the other miniseries? Is it Rose Red? Oh,
- 57:53there's a lot. There was I mean pretty much if there were a Ste if there's a Stephen King book it
- 58:00Yeah. I think that is mainly where he I don't know if that's where he's from or Yeah. I think it's I
- 58:04think it might be where he's from but I mean hey Maine is beautiful. They've got great lobster. So
- 58:11I can't exactly blame him. Go to Maine. Have you all been to Maine? Did you? No. I would love to
- 58:14go to Maine. Okay. But yeah, it's on the list of places we want to go. Although sorry Maine. I do
- 58:20prefer the Connecticut lobster roll. Oh. Oh, I'm sure all of our listeners in Maine, the tens of
- 58:26people who might listen to this. I know they're they're ready to throw down with me. You had me,
- 58:31but the mayo is better. No, no, it's the the melted garlic butter. That's That's the choice. I
- 58:36love seafood so much. I wish I liked it. So good. Freaks me out a little bit. Um, okay. So, this is
- 58:44a fun little bit that we I think we'll have some fun with. Um, monster smash or pass, you know.
- 58:52And this might be a segment where it's mostly just Beth and I talking. Mark is going to be just going
- 58:58to observe facial expressions. Yeah. When we get to the point where like if we ever watch the ring
- 59:02or whatever when it's a girl, you do Samara. Oh goodness. That's pass. Hard pass. Um, so yeah,
- 59:10I kind of looked at this as at like Pennywise as like the person as a whole. Like, yeah, if I were,
- 59:16which I never did like dating apps or anything, but like if I saw him and like read his bio,
- 59:21you know, I might have like some a couple of things to note on. So, let's give him the benefit
- 59:27of the doubt and say smash, right? This man had some serious real estate living in that sewer. You
- 59:35know what I mean? Yeah. Probably more equity than what I have in my home. Yes. So, I mean, you know,
- 59:44lots of room to expand. He might he needs to clean up a little bit, but he had a lot of real estate.
- 59:50Um, another thing I thought of, he will never run out of balloons for birthday parties. You
- 59:58would have unlimited birthday party supplies. And someone who is planning a first birthday party,
- 1:00:04that stuff adds up. True. And you could have turned that into a business. Oh my gosh,
- 1:00:09you could. I didn't even think about that. Yeah. Yeah. Pennywise the birthday clown and you have
- 1:00:13no cost because he just materializes them. It's all profit. It is all profit. Yeah. No capital.
- 1:00:19Okay. So, see now it's starting to sound better. You just got to take a step back and just make
- 1:00:24like a pros and cons list, right? Mhm. I do think the cons outweigh the pros. But yeah,
- 1:00:31um he also um you could have a lot of fun with the shape-shifting and like he would be really
- 1:00:37fun to go to a Halloween party with. Like he would completely commit to the bit. Trying to get Alek
- 1:00:42to commit to a couple's costume. Oh yeah, I know. is like pulling teeth. Like he does not want to do
- 1:00:47it. He's like too cool. Penny type Pennywise would be like, "Yeah, whatever you want." Absolutely.
- 1:00:52And he would just go in all in. There it is. Yeah. Snap and it's done. Exactly. Yeah. Um
- 1:00:58you also don't have to like wonder if he's being honest with you about like what he's doing in his
- 1:01:02spare time or like what his hobbies are. Like it's pretty, you know. Yeah. If you can get over that,
- 1:01:08the murder. That's a pretty big one. Eating the kids. Yeah. You know, the diet. I don't know if
- 1:01:14I could. Obviously, I couldn't do that. That is a pretty specific That's like worse than a gluten
- 1:01:19allergy. It's like all you eat is kids. Yeah. I mean, you're so limited in your foods. I mean,
- 1:01:24they're they're everywhere, but also hard to get. Nope. Yeah. Um, so those were my smashes. Did you
- 1:01:31have any smashes? Yeah. So, I mean, like the aura is there. Okay. Confidence is key, right?
- 1:01:38Something that I personally don't have a whole lot of. No. Yeah. I mean, he would definitely be the
- 1:01:42one that everybody's like, "Oh, can you guys come over?" But you're really just with him.
- 1:01:47They really want to see. They want to hang out with him. They want to hang out with him. He's
- 1:01:50the the fun. He could also exact revenge on all your enemies. Oh, yeah. Which is enticing. Yeah,
- 1:01:57because he's like all powerful. Yeah, that's a good point. So, I don't know. and killing them
- 1:02:04or just scaring them. I guess in any way you want because if I, you know, sometimes I wish things on
- 1:02:10people that are like I wish you had to walk around with wet socks. Like I just want in you to be
- 1:02:17inconvenienced. I don't necessarily wish anything bad upon you, but I don't want you to have a good
- 1:02:21day. Just a temporary time cuz you have you have upset me and so I don't want great things for
- 1:02:28you. Yeah. I'm not going to wish you harm. Right. So maybe maybe a little scaring wet socks would
- 1:02:35be okay. Some eggshell in your step on a Lego barefoot. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. That's funny.
- 1:02:41Yeah. And he could he can make that happen. He can. Wow. Bird bird like poops on your head right
- 1:02:46before you're about to walk into an important meeting. Ooh yeah. I mean I don't know. There
- 1:02:51are just so many things that could just be like, "Oh, I'm having a bad day." And it's like, "Yeah,
- 1:02:54it's cuz of me. It's cuz of me and my boyfriend Pennywise. Me and my boy." But also like I don't
- 1:03:00know like passes like the makeup smudging that's a very messy you know the teeth the living in the
- 1:03:08sewer like like ultimately I think I'm going to have to pass but there are like I paused.
- 1:03:14Exactly. And that's the thing. Yeah. Like let's let's think about it as a whole. But ultimately
- 1:03:19Mark I just want to be clear. I would choose you over Pennywise every day of ever. Okay. I love
- 1:03:25that. In case, you know, I don't want to sit here and disrespect when it come when it comes between
- 1:03:30myself and a creepy clown, you would choose me. Every time. Every time. Every single time. You can
- 1:03:35rest easy in that. I will rest easy in that. Um, I did also have that he will ghost you every 30
- 1:03:40years. He will. He just he'll be gone. But are you free to do whatever you want to do at that point?
- 1:03:47I mean, I feel like it's one of those things like what's he doing? He's sleeping. Yeah. I mean,
- 1:03:52well, he doesn't know. Is he going to know? Yeah. How will they know? Um and then your entire
- 1:03:57relationship's going to be based off of fear and manipulation. Okay. Been there, done that. That's
- 1:04:04true. I'll I've done my time. I will pass. Well, I don't I mean like Bev, she went right back to it.
- 1:04:12That is the cycle. Unfortunately, unfortunately. Yeah. That whole scene, not now, not ever again.
- 1:04:20I thought was really cheesy when she threw that lotion and that was all that it took to knock
- 1:04:24that man out and like take him to the ground. I was like, "Okay, if if one if getting hit by
- 1:04:30one lotion is going to put you to the ground, you can't be hitting anybody." Exactly. Yeah. For one,
- 1:04:35you just don't need to hit your your partner. Yeah. But for two, if you can't take being hit
- 1:04:40by a lotion bottle, sit down. Yeah. Sit down. Um, I also had thought he does enjoy mutilation.
- 1:04:51Can't get behind that arm fetish maybe? I don't know. Um, okay. So, was it actually scary
- 1:05:02or is it just a good story or a classic? I think is it's absolutely a classic. Yes. Um,
- 1:05:08so much iconic imagery. Yeah. Um, so for like for that reason, it's definitely worth a watch as a
- 1:05:17recommendation. Is it scary? Maybe for like none of the people's fears that he played on were like
- 1:05:28anything that really for me. So maybe if there had been something that would have gotten to me that
- 1:05:35I had in common with one of the kids or the, you know, like maybe. And Pennywise is creepy. Yeah,
- 1:05:40for sure. So, is the movie scary? I would not say so. There's a lot of comedy in it really. I mean,
- 1:05:48like some of the lines like just cuz they're kind of cheesy or old or whatever, but also like like
- 1:05:55there's some intentional comedy in there that is really funny. Like we were laughing out loud at
- 1:05:58some stuff. I can't remember what it was, but Yeah. But I I think it's a great movie. It's a
- 1:06:02great story, but I don't think I would say it's scary. Yeah. Yeah. I don't I don't think it's
- 1:06:07scary at all. Uh, and I'm not I'm not I don't mean that in a bad way. Um, it definitely is a good
- 1:06:12movie. The storyline is really good. I love the back and forth when they're kids and when they're
- 1:06:16adults and facing this entity, you know, over a period of 30 years. Uh, that's that's really cool.
- 1:06:22And so, it's a very entertaining movie for sure. I do think it is. I think it would be scary for kids
- 1:06:28though. I mean, if a kid watched it, I think it would probably uh, you know, give them give them
- 1:06:33nightmares. But, uh, yeah. As an adult, we know a few kids. Let's test it. We could we could test
- 1:06:38it, but let's terrorize the children. But yeah, I mean, as as an adult, yeah, it it wasn't really
- 1:06:44it wasn't really scary. Yeah. Yeah. What do you think? Um, I agree. It was not scary as an adult.
- 1:06:50It did scare me as a kid, but I very much enjoyed my experience of like getting to rewatch it. Yeah,
- 1:06:56me too. Yeah. So, I would say it makes the club. I agree. Yeah. Put it on the shelf. Sweet. The
- 1:07:02imaginary shelf here. We would recommend it. So, I know one thing that we've talked about and we
- 1:07:07didn't talk about it before we started recording, but um we have a spinny wheel of death to help us
- 1:07:13decide what we're going to watch next. So, shall we? Let's spin and see what we get. Let me pull it
- 1:07:19up here. Now, this is like I think over a hundred different scary movies and it will be completely
- 1:07:27random. So, we'll spin it. We need to have like a Okay, it is chosen. Looks like we'll be watching
- 1:07:37Alien from 1979. You've seen that, right, Mark? I have seen that. I have not. This will be a new
- 1:07:43one for me. Yeah, I haven't watched either. I actually am terrified of aliens. Yeah. So,
- 1:07:47this one might get you. Yeah. Like Reach Mad as a kid also. And honestly, till now. The UFO files
- 1:07:54have been released. Yeah. Yes. Very timely. It is timely. Yeah. The wheel knows. It's a It's a
- 1:08:00wheel of death and fate. Yes, it's meant to be. It does say we pick, fate decides, you suffer. Well,
- 1:08:07I guess we'll see if we suffer. I don't f I I did not find that I suffered this time cuz I
- 1:08:12quite enjoyed IT. So, we'll see if it's a moment of suffering for the next one. I don't know. I'm
- 1:08:19already freaked out. Yeah, this one is like up your scary alley. Yeah, I have like a couple like
- 1:08:26certain gore is a no for me and yeah, aliens. Like I was really afraid of aliens as a kid. I
- 1:08:33honestly still kind of am, but we deal with it. All right. Well, I'm excited. Yeah, this will be
- 1:08:38a good one. Okay. Well, so that's kind of, you know, the the idea behind this whole podcast. So
- 1:08:44hopefully you enjoyed. Um stick around. We do have um some social medias. We'll add that into our
- 1:08:52um little closing bit. Um, but we'll see you guys later. Do we have any closing remarks? No. Just
- 1:08:57watch Alien and then you can have it fresh on your mind while we talk about it, too. Just watch it
- 1:09:03with us and Yes. Yeah. join our discussion. All right. We'll talk to you guys later. Bye. Bye.
