Transcript
- 0:00Sean McAllister: Welcome to episode 78.
- 0:03Dayna Roselli: Time magazine picks Las Vegas as one of the world's greatest places in 2021.
- 0:10Dayna Roselli: We'll tell you why.
- 0:11Sean McAllister: Plus, a handful of concert tours announced stops right here in Las Vegas.
- 0:18Dayna Roselli: And the Coliseum at Caesars Palace officially reopens with Usher on stage.
- 0:23Sean McAllister: The Raiders' president suddenly steps down after 30 years with the organization, and the president of the Smith Center talks with us after an emotional announcement about reopening that Performing Arts Center downtown.
- 0:38Dayna Roselli: We have a lot to get to.
- 0:40Dayna Roselli: Let's spin that wheel.
- 1:05Sean McAllister: We're like ships in the night.
- 1:07Dayna Roselli: Ships in the night.
- 1:08Dayna Roselli: That was the phrase I was looking for.
- 1:09Dayna Roselli: Passing in the night, walking through the hallway.
- 1:12Dayna Roselli: I didn't know what it was, but you got it.
- 1:14Sean McAllister: We have our brief time back together to record this episode, and then it's back to our separate ways until, you know, life returns to normal.
- 1:23Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 1:24Sean McAllister: In another week or so.
- 1:25Sean McAllister: But uh man, I mean, uh first of all, I I think we should welcome our any new listeners that we have, Dana, from hearing us on uh Highway Radio.
- 1:35Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 1:36Dayna Roselli: We announced our our partnership with Highway Radio.
- 1:39Dayna Roselli: You and I are providing these entertainment reports, which include pieces of our podcast.
- 1:43Dayna Roselli: And Highway Radio, for people that don't know, is the one radio station you can get on the highway from anywhere in Southern California to Las Vegas.
- 1:55Sean McAllister: Right.
- 1:55Sean McAllister: So it covers all of the desert area where nothing else comes in.
- 2:00Sean McAllister: But Highway Radio has you covered.
- 2:02Sean McAllister: We are now contributing uh entertainment reports on a regular basis.
- 2:06Sean McAllister: So you tune in to Highway Radio.
- 2:09Sean McAllister: You can find them at highwayradio.com to get all the digits to tune in on your dial, and we'll be a part of your next road trip here to Las Vegas or to Southern California.
- 2:21Dayna Roselli: That's right.
- 2:22Dayna Roselli: Another big thing going on in Las Vegas, not along those lines, masks.
- 2:27Dayna Roselli: Okay, I logged on to Twitter, getting on my flight, heading back, and like everyone in Las Vegas was fighting over vaccines.
- 2:32Dayna Roselli: Obviously, it's a very hot topic right now because people are on edge about more changes that could be possible in, you know, each part of the country.
- 2:43Dayna Roselli: But and actually the world really, right?
- 2:46Dayna Roselli: Because the new Delta variant.
- 2:47Dayna Roselli: So it's such a hot topic right now because we kind of got used to going back to normal, and now it looks like we're gonna take a step back.
- 2:54Dayna Roselli: And our area, Clark County, which oversees the strip, has made some changes.
- 3:00Dayna Roselli: They just had a vote.
- 3:01Sean McAllister: Yeah, the Clark County Commission is the board of politicians here in southern Nevada that kind of makes uh that is now in charge of the COVID mitigation efforts.
- 3:13Sean McAllister: It was the governor of the state for a long time, and then uh as of July 1st, he handed back the control of that to the Clark County Commission.
- 3:23Sean McAllister: Well, they just voted that now employees need to wear masks at work in public areas.
- 3:32Sean McAllister: So that means obviously casino workers down on the strip need to wear masks whenever they're in places that they come in contact with the public.
- 3:42Sean McAllister: That also means employees of restaurants, grocery stores.
- 3:46Sean McAllister: Pretty much if you work at a business that has a public area where people can come in and out, you need to wear a mask in those areas.
- 3:55Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 3:56Dayna Roselli: And then, you know, people keep saying, Well, do I have to, if I'm just, you know, a patron, a visitor, and it's like, no, no, no, well, not yet.
- 4:04Dayna Roselli: That is not part of the rule.
- 4:05Dayna Roselli: So it's the staff that needs to wear the mask.
- 4:07Dayna Roselli: So if you want to visit Las Vegas, you want to visit one of our hotel resorts, or you want to take in a restaurant, you don't have to wear a mask if you are vaccinated.
- 4:17Dayna Roselli: Of course, if you are not vaccinated, you are supposed to wear a mask.
- 4:22Sean McAllister: However, as part of all this, the Southern Nevada Health District is urging all casinos to post new signs that let visitors know that masks are strongly recommended while they're on property.
- 4:37Sean McAllister: Although it's not mandated, they are strongly recommending the masks, so it's still an honor system, but we all know that the honor system is not a bunk system at this point.
- 4:48Dayna Roselli: I mean, you know, it is frustrating, I think, for people that are vaccinated.
- 4:51Dayna Roselli: I get it.
- 4:52Dayna Roselli: It's, you know, you and I have been vaccinated for a while now, and not wearing a mask is, let me tell you, a real luxury these days.
- 4:59Dayna Roselli: I took a flight to Rochester, and I think like the total flight was like seven hours, you know, by the time you were in the airport and you're switching planes, and you have to wear a mask the whole time you're in the airport, the whole flight, and then, you know, as you're getting your bags and everything.
- 5:12Dayna Roselli: But boy, I hadn't worn one in so long that let me tell you, it took some getting used to by the end of that whole travel, I was exhausted, and I'm like, I do not miss the mask.
- 5:25Sean McAllister: I know.
- 5:26Sean McAllister: I'm gonna have to make sure that I that I shave before all my flights, because otherwise the the mask will get all like stuck in the stubble.
- 5:34Dayna Roselli: It's a lot of yeah, and it's hard to breathe, you know, but you know, I must say, like, I didn't mind wearing a mask on the airplane because it is kind of you're stuffed in there with a lot of people.
- 5:43Dayna Roselli: So I was like, okay with that.
- 5:44Sean McAllister: But it was like stuffed in.
- 5:45Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 5:45Dayna Roselli: But all the, you know, at the airport, checking in, going through TSA, trying to grab a bite to eat, taking it on and off and all that.
- 5:53Dayna Roselli: But anyway, listen, I I know it has to be done, but we're allowed to complain, and and everyone does complain, don't they?
- 5:59Sean McAllister: Yes, they do, whether anyone's listening or not.
- 6:01Sean McAllister: So, bottom line, uh, next trip to Vegas, you are gonna see more people wearing masks.
- 6:07Sean McAllister: This is in effect through August 17th, and then everything's gonna be reassessed again.
- 6:13Sean McAllister: So that's the current state of affairs here, Dan.
- 6:16Dayna Roselli: Yeah, let's get it under control because um when it comes to lists, Las Vegas is, you know, struggling.
- 6:21Dayna Roselli: We're at the top of a lot of lists for high numbers.
- 6:23Dayna Roselli: Okay, well, here's some good news.
- 6:25Dayna Roselli: Time magazine has named Las Vegas one of the world's greatest places in 2021.
- 6:30Dayna Roselli: So there's that.
- 6:32Sean McAllister: Another list that we're on.
- 6:33Sean McAllister: I love it.
- 6:34Dayna Roselli: The article picks three things that they really, you know, think brings us to this list.
- 6:40Dayna Roselli: And one of them is Elon Musk's new tunnel, underground tunnel.
- 6:44Dayna Roselli: It's you know, the boring company tunnel.
- 6:47Dayna Roselli: It transports visitors from one side of our old convention center to our brand new convention center, and then eventually we'll take visitors to resorts world as well, and then eventually, eventually, is gonna go down the strip into downtown and to the airport and all sorts of stuff, but we aren't quite there yet.
- 7:01Sean McAllister: Yeah, there's big plans to have it be like the new transportation system of the future in Las Vegas.
- 7:07Dayna Roselli: Right, and you know, they use Tesla, so it's a big deal, obviously.
- 7:10Dayna Roselli: Elon Musk behind that.
- 7:12Dayna Roselli: Also, they talk about Resorts World opening in June, you know, how that's a big deal.
- 7:16Dayna Roselli: It's adding a major resort casino to the Las Vegas strip.
- 7:20Dayna Roselli: It's a big deal, and they pointed out Carrie Underwood's residency.
- 7:25Dayna Roselli: So they kind of picked her out of the group, yeah, and said, you know, it's a big, big deal to have Carrie Underwood there.
- 7:30Dayna Roselli: It is her first residency.
- 7:31Sean McAllister: It is, so it'll be exciting to see what she does here, and she is a huge superstar.
- 7:35Sean McAllister: But I think in addition to the the entertainment, some of the innovation that Resorts World has is that it is a completely cashless property if you want it to be that for you.
- 7:47Sean McAllister: Obviously, you can still use cash, but if you don't, you can use your your apps and cards, and you don't even need to touch cash on property if you don't want to.
- 7:58Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and and they also point out that it's comprised of three hotels, which is kind of a little bit different, and the they called it a hawker style food court.
- 8:07Dayna Roselli: What does that mean?
- 8:08Sean McAllister: Well, I think it's just one of those kind of places where it's like a marketplace where people are hawking their stuff.
- 8:13Sean McAllister: Oh, right.
- 8:14Sean McAllister: You walk around, lots of different options.
- 8:17Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 8:17Sean McAllister: It's set up like a like an Asian marketplace.
- 8:20Dayna Roselli: Okay, and then this is the third one that they picked a new restaurant out in Vegas, out west.
- 8:26Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and we're talking at Tivoli Village, which is a great place, has some great restaurants, cute little shops, super cute out there, um, right south of the Summerlin Parkway.
- 8:36Dayna Roselli: But they pointed out a new restaurant called Al Solito Posto.
- 8:40Dayna Roselli: It is apparently amazing.
- 8:43Dayna Roselli: It's upscale but old school Italian, serves elevated, you know, eggplant and chicken parmesan, lasagna, dessert, pie-sized rainbow cookies, you name it.
- 8:52Dayna Roselli: I haven't been yet, have you?
- 8:54Sean McAllister: No, I haven't.
- 8:54Dayna Roselli: And I hear it's delicious.
- 8:56Dayna Roselli: But they specifically pointed out that restaurant, so that's kind of cool too.
- 9:00Sean McAllister: Very cool.
- 9:01Sean McAllister: And sp anytime that there's recognition for things off the strip here in Las Vegas and that turns off-strip destinations into an attraction for Vegas visitors is always great because there really is so much to do here outside of the main resort corridor.
- 9:20Dayna Roselli: Other things do exist.
- 9:21Dayna Roselli: Because believe me, even just being home in New York now, all my f friends, I mean, that I feel like I know really well and know my life here for like 16 years, but they still think that I like just, you know, literally plant uh a lawn chair on the strip, and that's just where I hang out, I eat, I sleep, and and that's my whole life.
- 9:38Dayna Roselli: But anyway.
- 9:39Sean McAllister: If you planted a lawn chair on the strip, I would tell you to re-evaluate everything.
- 9:44Dayna Roselli: That could be a fun little, you know, day though, for someone when it gets cooler out.
- 9:48Sean McAllister: A day.
- 9:50Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 9:50Dayna Roselli: Well, let's talk shows because the we have a huge list.
- 9:53Dayna Roselli: We're gonna just run through them all because there's so many new shows announced.
- 9:58Dayna Roselli: And we're also talking about like tour stops.
- 10:00Dayna Roselli: We have a lot of tour stops announced recently, which is kind of cool.
- 10:04Dayna Roselli: Um, the tour stops include, let's just go through that.
- 10:07Dayna Roselli: First of all, the killer's coming out with a new album.
- 10:09Dayna Roselli: They are from Las Vegas.
- 10:11Dayna Roselli: We love them.
- 10:12Sean McAllister: There's the killers are phenomenal.
- 10:15Dayna Roselli: And they just keep pumping out albums recently.
- 10:17Sean McAllister: They have been.
- 10:17Dayna Roselli: They had the one that wasn't too long ago, the Mirage one.
- 10:20Sean McAllister: Yep.
- 10:20Dayna Roselli: And now they have a new one coming out in August.
- 10:22Dayna Roselli: They announced a tour, they're gonna be stopping at T-Mobile Arena in 2022, but tickets will go on sale in July.
- 10:30Dayna Roselli: You'll have to lock those in because their Las Vegas shows sell out really quick.
- 10:33Sean McAllister: Yeah, they do.
- 10:34Sean McAllister: People love to see the killers in their hometown.
- 10:37Sean McAllister: Also, Journey is coming back to Las Vegas this time at uh the Coliseum at Caesars Palace.
- 10:43Sean McAllister: This is a one-night only concert on that band's tour.
- 10:48Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 10:48Dayna Roselli: I think that's sometime in December, but tickets are on sale as well.
- 10:51Dayna Roselli: Hey, Goo Goods had to mention this because you know they are from Buffalo, where Sean and I are from.
- 10:56Sean McAllister: Western New York.
- 10:58Dayna Roselli: Well, the Goo Goodolls will be performing at the Laughlin Event Center, and so tickets on sale for that.
- 11:02Dayna Roselli: I think they're performing with Collective Souls, so go check them out.
- 11:05Dayna Roselli: It's a quick little drive from Las Vegas.
- 11:07Sean McAllister: That'll be such a good show.
- 11:08Sean McAllister: That's like my era of music, too.
- 11:10Sean McAllister: Uh Harry Styles also coming to town.
- 11:14Sean McAllister: Uh, John Mayer has announced a tour stop here.
- 11:18Sean McAllister: So the concert tours are just endless.
- 11:21Sean McAllister: And we've got all of the information on dates and ticket sales and all that.
- 11:25Sean McAllister: If you go to our Vegas Revealed uh social media channels, also at Vegas-Revealed.com, just scroll down to the articles and we've got information there.
- 11:34Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and real quick mention that, you know, Mexican Independence Day is huge here in Las Vegas too.
- 11:39Dayna Roselli: Tons of different shows scheduled for that all over, and they keep having to add shows to the weekend because they're so popular.
- 11:45Dayna Roselli: So great concerts going on affiliated with that weekend as well.
- 11:50Dayna Roselli: Um, something I wanted to mention just to update folks on, we interviewed Chris Angel last podcast.
- 11:55Dayna Roselli: We went to his restaurant in Overton, Nevada, explain why he's opening it, what it, you know, means to him.
- 12:02Dayna Roselli: It has a charity hook, obviously, with uh families that we mentioned that have children with cancer, so they're hoping to make money from that restaurant and then be able to um have families afford to do some camping on land out there in Overton, which is about 45 minutes to an hour north of Las Vegas.
- 12:19Dayna Roselli: Well, the restaurant's officially open because he wasn't sure.
- 12:21Dayna Roselli: He didn't have a specific date when we talked to him last.
- 12:23Sean McAllister: Yeah, but now the doors are open for business.
- 12:27Sean McAllister: I know in some of those preview days leading up, uh word got out about the restaurant, maybe because people heard it on Vegas Revealed, and there was so much traffic down there that they ran out of food.
- 12:39Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 12:40Sean McAllister: They had to shut the restaurant down, do more training to, you know, get the staff ready for so many people coming there, get their food orders in.
- 12:48Sean McAllister: But the restaurant called uh Kablip, Chris Angel Breakfast Lunch Pizza.
- 12:54Sean McAllister: Um, and by the way, if you didn't listen to the Chris Angel interview, listen back, and he specifically addresses the name Kablip, and you'll want to hear what he has to say about it.
- 13:04Dayna Roselli: That was good.
- 13:04Dayna Roselli: That was good.
- 13:05Dayna Roselli: But yeah, Chris was doing some videos keeping everyone up to date, and so it's now open.
- 13:10Dayna Roselli: Head up there, support uh the small town, and support, you know, this this new kind of movement Chris is trying to trying to do, and and getting this, you know, getting the families that that have kids that that have dreams of camping and riding their dirt bikes in kind of open land.
- 13:25Dayna Roselli: He's gonna he's gonna make that possible, and he said he's gonna provide the food for those families on weekend camping trips as well.
- 13:31Sean McAllister: Yeah, and that's such a great thing.
- 13:32Sean McAllister: We love that.
- 13:33Sean McAllister: Always great to talk with Chris.
- 13:35Sean McAllister: Uh somebody else who has a show coming back here to Las Vegas, the one and only NFL legend Terry Bradshaw.
- 13:44Sean McAllister: He's so funny.
- 13:45Dayna Roselli: He is so funny.
- 13:46Dayna Roselli: We both have interviewed him many, many times.
- 13:48Dayna Roselli: Um, we've been in TV, and he's come into the studio, and he's just a hoot.
- 13:53Dayna Roselli: His show is great, does a little bit of music, some storytelling, and it's great because it's gonna kick off again.
- 14:00Dayna Roselli: I believe it's in September and run through December, which is perfect for, you know, football season.
- 14:05Dayna Roselli: You can go see the Raiders and then pop in and and go see Terry Bradshaw's show at the Luxor.
- 14:10Dayna Roselli: So welcome back to Terry.
- 14:12Dayna Roselli: Glad to have him back in town.
- 14:15Dayna Roselli: Also, Banachek, he's the kind of like the mind behind a lot of the very famous magicians all over the world.
- 14:23Dayna Roselli: He is starting a show at the Strat, and he's apparently never had like his own residency show.
- 14:27Dayna Roselli: So the Strat got him over there, and he's a 4 p.m.
- 14:31Dayna Roselli: show, which I thought was kind of cool.
- 14:32Dayna Roselli: Tickets only start at 29 bucks, and apparently he's like one of the greatest mentalists of all time.
- 14:38Dayna Roselli: So that will be a show that I think that will get a lot of attention as well.
- 14:42Dayna Roselli: And then another really affordable show down at Bally's is back.
- 14:46Sean McAllister: Yeah, Potted Potter.
- 14:48Sean McAllister: And this is kind of a a spoof on the whole Harry Potter franchise.
- 14:53Sean McAllister: Um, it's it really is an enjoyable show.
- 14:56Sean McAllister: If you've read all the books, you're gonna really be into uh what this show does and how it brings those stories to life in an all-new way.
- 15:06Sean McAllister: Potted Potter is over at Bally's shows, are uh resumed.
- 15:11Sean McAllister: They're back on right now, and tickets start at right around$37.
- 15:15Sean McAllister: So another really affordable show.
- 15:17Dayna Roselli: Alright, and let's talk Bruno Mars.
- 15:19Dayna Roselli: He had some shows planned for July 23rd and 24th and had to cancel, sadly.
- 15:25Dayna Roselli: And, you know, he sold out right away.
- 15:27Dayna Roselli: So we know a lot of people were going to this show, and I bet they were disappointed because if they can't make those shows, even though he's moved them to August, you know, you may not have plans to be here then, and so you missed out.
- 15:41Dayna Roselli: But um, unforeseen circumstances is what they're saying, why they had to cancel this show.
- 15:46Dayna Roselli: So we don't know if he was sick, somebody was sick, something, you know, scheduling-wise came up that they had a conflict.
- 15:53Dayna Roselli: We aren't sure.
- 15:54Sean McAllister: But uh for a show at that scale, there has to be something pretty, pretty major that comes up where you have to cancel a weekend of shows because that is a lot of people and a lot of money from the tickets that you know they're kind of putting on pause to uh reschedule those shows for August.
- 16:13Sean McAllister: Uh so that's Bruno Mars uh up at the Coliseum at Caesars Palace.
- 16:17Sean McAllister: We talked about this last week, Dana.
- 16:19Sean McAllister: Usher is back on stage.
- 16:22Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 16:22Dayna Roselli: Now you went it was a big deal, first of all, because the that was the first time the Coliseum had opened its doors.
- 16:28Dayna Roselli: Um, I think there was a performance before the one that you went to, but it was the first show back at the Coliseum that has been closed since the pandemic started.
- 16:38Dayna Roselli: So a big deal.
- 16:39Dayna Roselli: They, you know, announced Usher was coming there during the whole shutdown, remember?
- 16:44Dayna Roselli: And then people were like so excited to have a show on sale and excited Usher was coming.
- 16:49Dayna Roselli: He did really well, I think sold out right away, and so you went to the performance, and not only was he performing just last weekend, but also he has more dates coming up.
- 16:59Sean McAllister: Yeah, he does, and I believe he has dates all through uh December of this year, but his residency is going to be an ongoing thing.
- 17:09Sean McAllister: This isn't just for a short chunk of time, he's gonna have dates ongoing.
- 17:13Sean McAllister: And I know the people at uh Caesars Palace and Live Nation and Usher's team have really worked on this show for for over two years, and it's been described to me as a labor of love for a lot of people involved in this show.
- 17:30Sean McAllister: So, everybody involved, congratulations on getting the show up and running, um, especially throwing a pandemic into the mix.
- 17:38Sean McAllister: That is a big undertaking to get a show off the ground like that.
- 17:42Sean McAllister: Right, definitely.
- 17:44Sean McAllister: And as far as the show goes, I think production-wise, it's they've really done a lot to step up the game at the Coliseum with the production that that goes on in there.
- 17:57Sean McAllister: The the lighting, the staging, all that, it was really over the top and good.
- 18:02Dayna Roselli: Good.
- 18:03Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I saw a lot of clips, and and you were sending me some videos of Usher dancing and coming down the aisles, and so does he like enter that way?
- 18:11Dayna Roselli: Does he end that way?
- 18:13Dayna Roselli: How did the what was the kind of the format for folks that might want to go see?
- 18:16Dayna Roselli: Where do you go?
- 18:17Dayna Roselli: That way they know where to sit.
- 18:18Sean McAllister: Yeah, there's a few times that he comes out and meanders through the audience.
- 18:24Sean McAllister: Yeah, I don't know if it was a couple times during the show he kind of wandered out, and I don't know if that was just like I I assume it was planned.
- 18:32Sean McAllister: Okay.
- 18:32Sean McAllister: And that he didn't just hop off stage and like go chill with people in the audience.
- 18:36Dayna Roselli: But how was the crowd?
- 18:37Dayna Roselli: Were they into it?
- 18:38Sean McAllister: The the crowd was into it.
- 18:40Sean McAllister: Here is my personal review of the show.
- 18:44Sean McAllister: I think for Usher fans who have bought his albums, who have followed him through the years, I think Usher fans are gonna be super into it.
- 18:56Sean McAllister: I don't fall into that category of being like an Usher fan that has really followed him closely.
- 19:03Sean McAllister: I'm uh obviously aware of some of the big hits that he's had, but I I wouldn't like buy tickets to go and see him in concert when he's out on tour.
- 19:14Dayna Roselli: Okay.
- 19:14Sean McAllister: If you are, you know, among those people, I think it's a show you're gonna love.
- 19:19Sean McAllister: But uh here's my thing with Vegas residencies is that uh it's my belief that when an artist comes into Vegas and does a residency, you need to appeal to more than just your core base of fans.
- 19:34Sean McAllister: You need to broaden your spectrum a little bit so that regardless of who is sitting in those seats, they walk away saying, That was a damn good show.
- 19:44Sean McAllister: And now I'm interested to go and buy the music of this person that I just heard.
- 19:50Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 19:51Dayna Roselli: It's like when I tell you all the time, I went to Brooks, Dunn, and Reba at the Coliseum, and I did not think I was gonna really get much.
- 20:00Dayna Roselli: I'm not I don't follow tons of country music, I haven't followed them, but I was well aware.
- 20:04Dayna Roselli: But I left a fan, and I was like, that was one of the best shows I'd ever seen.
- 20:09Dayna Roselli: And then I downloaded some songs.
- 20:11Sean McAllister: And that's the same way I felt about uh Ricky Martin, his show over at the Park Theater, and Jennifer Lopez, her show, over at uh Zappo's Theater at Planet Hollywood.
- 20:23Sean McAllister: I was never big fans of them, but I walked away being like, oh my god, they were phenomenal, and they brought Vegas elements into the show, and it I really didn't get that from Usher's show.
- 20:37Dayna Roselli: Now, I would assume he's very entertaining.
- 20:39Dayna Roselli: My friend and I, we were at the iHeart Music Festival one year and we waited.
- 20:42Dayna Roselli: Usher was like the last performer.
- 20:44Dayna Roselli: We waited and waited and waited for Usher to perform, and we liked it, but then it we came away going, Oh, I would have thought it was gonna be like, I don't know.
- 20:52Dayna Roselli: I guess just, you know, it it must be like his music videos that stick in my head from the past, that they were always so amazing, and his dance moves were so cool and all that.
- 21:00Dayna Roselli: And so are are you getting that from the show at the Coliseum?
- 21:03Sean McAllister: Oh, you totally are.
- 21:04Sean McAllister: Okay, good.
- 21:04Sean McAllister: You're getting Usher dancing, you're getting him singing, you're getting you're getting the hits, you're getting and that's why I say Usher fans are going to love it.
- 21:14Sean McAllister: Right.
- 21:14Sean McAllister: But I feel like it was more of a show that you would get if he was doing a tour.
- 21:20Sean McAllister: Okay, rather than doing a Vegas residency that brings in the Vegas elements and all that kind of thing.
- 21:25Dayna Roselli: Or showcases something different.
- 21:27Dayna Roselli: Like he didn't do something that maybe you're like, oh, I didn't know Usher could do that, or uh maybe in a I don't know, an acoustic, or a cool sit at the end of the stage, maybe in you know so there's nothing really He I mean he roller skates.
- 21:39Sean McAllister: Okay, well there's a And I don't think he roller skated before this residency.
- 21:42Dayna Roselli: That's huge on Tic Tac.
- 21:43Dayna Roselli: Didn't you say there were stripper poles involved too?
- 21:46Sean McAllister: There are poles and strippers, apparently who he brought in from Atlanta.
- 21:52Dayna Roselli: Okay, wow.
- 21:53Dayna Roselli: Not even Vegas strippers?
- 21:54Sean McAllister: Not even Vegas strippers.
- 21:55Sean McAllister: What?
- 21:56Sean McAllister: He said they were straight from the ATL.
- 21:58Dayna Roselli: That is not fair.
- 22:00Dayna Roselli: Come on, Usher.
- 22:01Dayna Roselli: You gotta employ the local economy.
- 22:05Dayna Roselli: So well anyway, I I saw a lot of great videos.
- 22:08Dayna Roselli: It looked like a great show.
- 22:09Dayna Roselli: Uh your take, interesting.
- 22:11Dayna Roselli: And you know what?
- 22:11Dayna Roselli: He's probably gonna tweak things because I've gone to see like Mariah Carey like at the beginning, and then like two years later, and I noticed a big change in her show, and that she took a lot of you know things and feedback that she got from the audience and people, you know, that came to see the show that they might know and made some tweaks.
- 22:29Sean McAllister: Well, and let me just put this out there in all transparency.
- 22:32Sean McAllister: I have shared my uh my review with others who were at that same show that night and other people who have seen it, and they think I'm crazy.
- 22:43Sean McAllister: Really?
- 22:44Sean McAllister: They're like, Are you kidding?
- 22:45Sean McAllister: I had so much fun.
- 22:47Sean McAllister: Great.
- 22:47Sean McAllister: I was up dancing the entire time, and I wouldn't change a thing about that show.
- 22:53Sean McAllister: So, and I said, you know what?
- 22:55Sean McAllister: Good.
- 22:56Sean McAllister: I hope I'm in the minority of what goes on because I want the show to be successful.
- 23:03Sean McAllister: I want people to go and see Usher at the Coliseum.
- 23:06Dayna Roselli: And listen, bring on the Vegas strippers.
- 23:09Dayna Roselli: We gotta support our people.
- 23:10Sean McAllister: And we got them.
- 23:12Dayna Roselli: Well, then maybe you can go see Usher and then, you know, afterward, maybe head down to some of our local strip establishments and support the economy.
- 23:19Sean McAllister: Well, the show will definitely get you in the mood for it.
- 23:21Sean McAllister: I'll tell you that.
- 23:22Dayna Roselli: Yeah, well, it looked good.
- 23:23Dayna Roselli: His costumes look good too.
- 23:25Dayna Roselli: All right, well, speaking of costumes and performing and stages, let's talk about the Smith Center.
- 23:30Dayna Roselli: I was so happy to see Myron Martin's face everywhere last week when the announcement came out that they were gonna start bringing shows back to the Smith Center because he looked so happy.
- 23:42Dayna Roselli: And I know you were able to go to that announcement, Sean, and pull him aside and chat with him one-on-one and really talk about the emotion of this.
- 23:49Dayna Roselli: It's been hard.
- 23:50Dayna Roselli: The Smith Center's been closed for a very long time.
- 23:52Sean McAllister: Yeah, it has.
- 23:53Sean McAllister: And Myron Martin, the president and CEO of the Smith Center, he's the guy who really made it possible to have a big world-class performing arts center here in Las Vegas.
- 24:05Sean McAllister: It's in downtown Las Vegas, it's off the strip, and it's really become a hub for touring Broadway shows, and it's also launched some touring shows as well.
- 24:16Sean McAllister: Um, but yeah, I was over there as the ghost light on the stage that's been the only light that's uh been illuminated inside Reynolds Hall at the Smith Center, as that light was dimmed and the house lights came up for the first time.
- 24:32Sean McAllister: Myron Martin was visibly emotional at that moment.
- 24:38Sean McAllister: And it's because it has been so long since patrons have been in the seats over there at the Smith Center.
- 24:46Sean McAllister: Just how long has it been?
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: Uh 482 days.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: This stage has been dark, lit only by our ghost light, and today we got to turn the lights back on.
- 24:56Sean McAllister: And and explain the emotions, the feelings that you had when that ghost light rolled off the stage and the house lights turned on.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: But you know, when when you've been dark that long and you're in the business of inspiring people, you know, I haven't seen one body in this theater for over a year.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: And it really hit me.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: And then to see the actors off stage ready to come on and entertain our folks today, it really hit me.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: So w was I thrilled uh that we were able to do this today?
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 25:44Sean McAllister: And obviously you're excited to have a new Broadway season launching again this fall, but to have uh a a national tour launching here at the Smith Center as part of that, uh what does that mean?
- 25:57Sean McAllister: How significant is that?
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: Well, you know The Smith Center has become one of the most important stops on Broadway tours.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: Uh that that in and of itself is a big deal.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: The fact that we can now make world premieres in Las Vegas says an awful lot, not only about the Smith Center, but about Las Vegas.
- 26:18Sean McAllister: And and talk about the upcoming uh Broadway season that you have, because I I know people are gonna be itching to get back into the theater and have that live performance in front of them that that they've been deprived of.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: People uh have renewed their subscriptions, they can't wait to come back.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: Of course, Broadway starts with the great Andrew Lloyd Weber musical Cats, which is gonna be here for the very first time.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: It's a classic, but it's making its Smith Center debut and many other great shows.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: If you go to thesmither.com, you can see the whole list of upcoming Broadway shows.
- 26:54Sean McAllister: And and if people aren't season ticket holders, I I know in the past you've done ticket lotteries for for some last-minute tickets.
- 27:02Sean McAllister: Is that going to continue?
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: So uh um we always hold a certain number of tickets for single ticket buyers, for people who say, I can't come to the entire season, but I want to see these two or three.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: Uh they sell out quickly, uh, but we hold them for for folks that just want to come to one or two or three shows.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: So again, go to the Smith Center box office, get them quickly, because they do sell out.
- 27:25Sean McAllister: And and what is your uh overall message to the Las Vegas community as we're we're coming out of this and as we are able to have the arts, uh live arts uh being a part of our lives again.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: So, Sean, when you think about sitting in these seats right behind me, uh 2,050 people sitting at any given time taking in a Broadway show.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: Most of them don't know each other, right?
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: You may be sitting side by side with someone you've never met, who may come from the other side of town, who may have a different background than you.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: But when we gather together in this space, we laugh together, we cry together, uh, we commune as a community.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: We come together as a community uh to be inspired by by Broadway shows.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: So it's needed.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: It it is so needed.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: I can't wait for us to come back together, be inspired to laugh, to cry, and to share these experiences together.
- 28:29Sean McAllister: Well, Myron, it's great to see you here on the stage in Reynolds Hall today, and can't wait to see you again when uh I come and sit in these seats myself.
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: I can't wait to see you.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: Thanks.
- 28:39Dayna Roselli: Well, you can tell he's just so happy to open the doors.
- 28:43Dayna Roselli: Uh I'm re I'm relieved for him and for the entire community.
- 28:46Dayna Roselli: We need the Smith Center back.
- 28:47Dayna Roselli: And for folks that are listening that don't know what the Smith Center is, it, you know, we mentioned it's a performing arts center, but you know, back in the day when they built the Smith Center, there was a lot of naysayers in the community going, this isn't gonna work.
- 28:58Dayna Roselli: We aren't a performing arts town.
- 29:00Dayna Roselli: We don't, you know, nobody wants to go see Broadway shows.
- 29:02Dayna Roselli: We've got the strip, but the strip didn't have a lot of Broadway shows.
- 29:06Dayna Roselli: There were a few they brought in.
- 29:07Dayna Roselli: Jersey Boys, obviously, was a big hit, and Rock of Ages and Phantom of the Opera.
- 29:12Dayna Roselli: So we had a few.
- 29:13Sean McAllister: Also Avenue Q.
- 29:14Sean McAllister: Oh, yeah.
- 29:15Sean McAllister: Over at the win back in I mean, but that was back in the day.
- 29:18Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 29:18Dayna Roselli: We just don't have a lot of Broadway shows on the strip, you know.
- 29:21Dayna Roselli: But so the Smith Center opens and everyone's like, oh, this ain't gonna work.
- 29:24Dayna Roselli: And then everyone was buying season tickets that lived here.
- 29:27Dayna Roselli: People were coming into town and going to see shows that were coming through.
- 29:31Dayna Roselli: I mean, we had Hamilton there, Book of Mormon.
- 29:33Dayna Roselli: So anyway, um, long story short, the Smith Center has become really important to the Las Vegas community and to people that come through and visit Las Vegas.
- 29:42Sean McAllister: Yeah, and as you mentioned, uh, an officer and a gentleman is launching its national Broadway tour right here at the Smith Center in Las Vegas.
- 29:51Sean McAllister: It's full of great 80s music.
- 29:54Sean McAllister: So good.
- 29:55Dayna Roselli: One of my favorite movies.
- 29:56Dayna Roselli: I've seen it over and over and over again.
- 29:58Dayna Roselli: And I know that might be weird to you because I feel like it doesn't seem like a movie that you would watch over and over.
- 30:04Dayna Roselli: However, Richard Gere, Officer and a Gentleman.
- 30:08Dayna Roselli: I know the all the lines, you know.
- 30:10Dayna Roselli: I mean, way to go, Paula, way to go.
- 30:12Dayna Roselli: But he carries her out of there.
- 30:14Dayna Roselli: It's just there's some great moments, and I can only imagine the show's gonna be great.
- 30:18Sean McAllister: And you'll leave with all those great songs going through your head.
- 30:21Dayna Roselli: Can't wait.
- 30:22Dayna Roselli: All right, and check out, you know, like Sean mentioned, too, uh, the full schedule on the Smith Center's website.
- 30:27Dayna Roselli: Tons of great shows coming, and we look forward to the doors opening there at Reynolds Hall.
- 30:32Sean McAllister: All right, what do you say we get to our tips?
- 30:35Dayna Roselli: Let's do it.
- 30:36Dayna Roselli: And this one I love because it came from a question from a listener.
- 30:40Sean McAllister: It did.
- 30:40Sean McAllister: John Durante, who has been a very loyal listener of Vegas Revealed, sends us messages, gets our advice on things, which, by the way, reach out to us anytime you want.
- 30:52Sean McAllister: Um, not just John, but any of any any of you listening, feel free because there's lots of information to share.
- 31:00Sean McAllister: But John says, I'm coming back to Vegas in August for the first time since 2019.
- 31:07Sean McAllister: He tells us where he's staying, he's going to check out uh Resorts World and Circa.
- 31:13Sean McAllister: But John asks, is there any must-see new things that the two of us really like since Vegas has reopened?
- 31:23Sean McAllister: Thank you for your question, John.
- 31:25Sean McAllister: Dana, take it away.
- 31:27Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and John has a list of some things that he wants to do, and he did mention he's gonna go see Circa, and we said, Well, you gotta go to the legacy club.
- 31:34Dayna Roselli: That's got a great view.
- 31:36Dayna Roselli: Um, you know, just go check out the whole resort, but that's one of our favorites because of the view.
- 31:41Dayna Roselli: And then Resorts World obviously is brand new.
- 31:44Dayna Roselli: You gotta go over there and check it out.
- 31:45Dayna Roselli: The one place that Sean and I have talked about in the past, and we did an interview with the folks that run it, is Gatsby's.
- 31:52Dayna Roselli: It's a beautiful large lounge right in the middle of the casino.
- 31:56Dayna Roselli: Go there, have a cocktail for sure.
- 31:58Sean McAllister: So classy, and it makes you feel really fancy, doesn't it?
- 32:01Dayna Roselli: It really does.
- 32:02Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's it's a beauty.
- 32:03Dayna Roselli: Um, and then a new supper club has come to the win, and we think John should go there.
- 32:08Sean McAllister: Absolutely.
- 32:09Sean McAllister: Delilah is now open at Wyn Las Vegas, and it's a 1920s era supper club.
- 32:17Sean McAllister: Uh, the food just looks absolutely phenomenal.
- 32:20Sean McAllister: We have not been over there yet to experience it, but it's on our list of things to do too.
- 32:26Sean McAllister: But it's just beautiful inside.
- 32:28Dayna Roselli: Everyone that's been over there has said it's it's gorgeous.
- 32:31Dayna Roselli: And um, you and I were chatting with at a different event, the fashion show, with one of the architects or designers of it when it first started, and I know that he was so proud of this space.
- 32:42Dayna Roselli: So uh go check out Delilah.
- 32:44Dayna Roselli: And then also Mayfair Supper Club.
- 32:46Dayna Roselli: You know, speaking of Supper Club, I mean, Supper Clubs are just a cool thing to do in Vegas because you can go have a dinner, drink, dessert, but also be entertained at the same time.
- 32:54Dayna Roselli: And the Mayfair Supper Club, I don't think, was open the last time that John came here because he said he came in sometime in 2019.
- 33:04Sean McAllister: And it opened uh New Year's Eve going into 2020.
- 33:09Sean McAllister: Right.
- 33:10Sean McAllister: So we had gone there, you know, for its grand opening weekend, had dinner there, and um then the world shut down.
- 33:18Dayna Roselli: Yeah, exactly.
- 33:19Dayna Roselli: It's still one of our most popular videos, by the way, on our YouTube that we have of the Mayfair Supper Club.
- 33:24Dayna Roselli: We threw together a bunch of clips from our phone, and people love to see the inside.
- 33:27Dayna Roselli: So if you want to see it, uh check out our YouTube at Vegas Revealed.
- 33:31Dayna Roselli: But yeah, I think John should go there too because it's a great night out.
- 33:34Dayna Roselli: It's it's a beautiful venue.
- 33:36Dayna Roselli: You can see the fountains.
- 33:37Dayna Roselli: Very iconic as well.
- 33:39Dayna Roselli: And then speaking of fountains and water, we're gonna send you back to the wind, John.
- 33:44Sean McAllister: Yeah, for the Lake of Dreams.
- 33:46Sean McAllister: So if you haven't been over there, um just check it out.
- 33:50Sean McAllister: It's just outside uh Parasol Down, which is the little lounge at the bottom of the escalators that's right behind the big center bar that's there at Win Las Vegas.
- 34:02Sean McAllister: Um, but Lake of Dreams is it's a show.
- 34:05Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 34:06Sean McAllister: And uh it's been totally reimagined, redone since uh the pandemic, since your last trip in 2019, John.
- 34:15Sean McAllister: They've totally redone it.
- 34:16Sean McAllister: There's a few restaurants out on the lake as well.
- 34:19Dayna Roselli: Yeah, then there's a variety of songs, which I was I love, you know, because there's things from Lady Gaga to Sonny and Cher.
- 34:25Dayna Roselli: And the shows go off.
- 34:27Dayna Roselli: Yeah, shows go off like every 20, 25 minutes.
- 34:29Dayna Roselli: A lot of people don't know about the Lake of Dreams.
- 34:31Dayna Roselli: You can sit out there and have a cocktail, like Sean mentioned, or go to one of the restaurants.
- 34:35Dayna Roselli: But if you go to one of the restaurants that are around the Lake of Dreams, make sure that you request the patio.
- 34:40Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 34:41Sean McAllister: Otherwise, you're not gonna see everything that's going on out there.
- 34:45Sean McAllister: But yeah, Lake of Dreams, Delilah, Mayfair Supper Club, the Legacy Club up at the top of Circa, and Gatsby's inside resorts world.
- 34:54Dayna Roselli: That's a list.
- 34:55Sean McAllister: That is a list.
- 34:55Sean McAllister: That'll keep you busy, John.
- 34:57Dayna Roselli: I'm gonna write John back right now and say, do you want to wait for the podcast to come out for our list, or should we send you the list?
- 35:02Dayna Roselli: So hoping he's gonna wait, and that way he can like have something to look forward to.
- 35:06Dayna Roselli: But um, that's a great list, that's for sure.
- 35:08Dayna Roselli: Wanted to quickly mention to you, I am heading to Sunset Station, which is off the strip in the Henderson area, and going to the outdoor amphitheater.
- 35:17Dayna Roselli: Station Casinos is kicking off their live entertainment, and I'm going to see a country concert there.
- 35:24Dayna Roselli: I can't wait.
- 35:25Dayna Roselli: I am going to see Justin Moore perform at the amphitheater.
- 35:28Dayna Roselli: And, you know, stations is just letting people know, hey, we're kicking off live entertainment again.
- 35:33Dayna Roselli: I've actually never been to the Sunset Station amphitheater.
- 35:37Dayna Roselli: So I was like, I need to go to this because I am still checking things off my list as long as we've lived here that I haven't been able to do.
- 35:45Sean McAllister: I know, and that's the great thing.
- 35:47Sean McAllister: Your options here are pretty much endless, which is the beauty of living in Las Vegas.
- 35:53Sean McAllister: Can't wait to hear about the Justin Moore concert and the Sunset Station Amphitheater uh when we're next together, Dana.
- 36:00Dayna Roselli: I know it's been um, you know, a long list of things today.
- 36:03Dayna Roselli: We we know there was a lot to go through, but things just keep coming through.
- 36:07Dayna Roselli: We will keep you updated on our social media as always.

- 36:19Dayna Roselli: Sean, just recently we interviewed the president of the Raiders, Mark Bedain, and then he stepped down suddenly.
- 36:25Sean McAllister: Yeah, it was sudden resignation.
- 36:27Dayna Roselli: I was what I I was shocked about that.
- 36:30Dayna Roselli: I feel like everyone else was too.
- 36:31Dayna Roselli: He's been with the organization since he was a summer intern, so 30 years.
- 36:35Sean McAllister: Man, alive.
- 36:36Sean McAllister: So you will hear one of the last interviews with Mark Bedain as the president of the Raiders uh uh right here on our Vegas Revealed podcast.
- 36:45Sean McAllister: Just go a couple episodes back and you'll see that.
- 36:48Dayna Roselli: Next week, since Sean's out of town, Sean and I have recorded a podcast that we really think you're gonna enjoy, and it kind of goes through a top ten kind of best moments in Vegas that we we have had.
- 37:01Dayna Roselli: Like so we we shared I we I would share some of my stories, he would share some of his, and then we went through and we listed them off in order, and we've got some doozies.
- 37:09Sean McAllister: And these are celebrity encounters, unforgettable moments, things that really just only happen in Las Vegas.
- 37:17Sean McAllister: And since Dana and I have uh each been in Las Vegas for over 15 years, there have been a lot of run-ins, especially.
- 37:28Sean McAllister: That's a good way to call-ins.
- 37:32Dayna Roselli: That's a good way to call it.
- 37:33Sean McAllister: Well, just put a period right there and tune in next week.
- 37:37Dayna Roselli: Oh my goodness.
- 37:37Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's gonna be a good one.
- 37:39Dayna Roselli: So anyway, listen, have a great vacation, Sean.

- 38:10Dayna Roselli: Captain?
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: We've been cleared for landing.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: On behalf of the flight crew, thank you for flying with us and have a pleasant day.
- 38:17Sean McAllister: Let's go to the day.
- 38:21Sean McAllister: Let's go, baby.
- 38:23Sean McAllister: Let's go.
