- This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is spoil Me covering one piece episodes. I was about to say three, but no. We're in the four hundreds now, four hundred eight through four hundred ten, landing the all female island Amazon Lily, hurry back to your friends, the Maiden Island Adventure and everyone falls in love Pirate Empress Hancock. In these episodes, we have got a wonder Woman situation. Folks. Everybody, all hands on deck. We are at an Amazonian island. I didn't see this coming at all. Welcome to spoil Me. Welcome to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much to Gabriella for commissioning this episode. Gabriella, what's up girl? How you doing? Hope, everything's great. These episodes are bonkers, guys. These are really really wild. So I'm I I don't even know where to start, because the first of these episodes is a lot of a lot of physical comedy based around the fact that all of these women, and you know, we're talking sizz women here. Obviously this is like a various hiss normative show, so and heteronormative. So we've got this island that lufy winds up at because he gets sent there by Kuma, who I keep I know that this isn't even like really a good or even an actual joke, but I keep thinking of him as Paw Patrol in my head, and I just don't I want to get rid of it. I don't like it, but it's there and it's kind of wedged in, and I think it's here to stay. But this, like the fact that Lufy gets sent on this journey and gets to sort of see potentially what is up with his friends as well, it's very reassuring to me that now he has reached a point probably where he understands that they are not all dead, that he doesn't have to be in total despair anymore. Because I was genuinely a little bit worried that when we started this episode we were going to have to see him be like completely still. Just watching Lucy have that breakdown really bothered me, you guys, in a way that I wasn't ready for. So I was concerned that I was going to have to go through that again because he wouldn't get the answer to what happened to everybody right away. But we find a way around this a little bit So first I got to start things off with Captain Handsome, who is desperately trying to figure out how to wink and not look like a complete madman. He gets a call and I love when they call him Duval, and he apparently doesn't want to go by that anymore by the time we get to that, like the next scene where he's hanging out with them, but for now he accepts Duval and he's like, all right, guys, gather together, and I really enjoy the Pride of the Rosy Life Riders. Let's see, I'm I'm at a bay by island forty two. All right, man, listen up. The pride of the Rosy Life Riders is on the line here. We can't lose now, Come on, Motobalo go. This is his us, his loyal steed who has a kind of low top speed. But he is thinking to himself about out he felt the shockwaves, and that he's hoping that all of their friends are okay. And I wasn't really aware they were even still around, these guys, and the fact that he is like at all still concerned and checking in on them because I know they have it seems been sent far Afield and that he isn't a great fighter like our friends were. I'm a little concerned about him like sticking his nose in at this point, his handsome, handsome nose, his diamond like sharply chiseled features, because he could inadvertently get himself in some trouble. And I actually have grown to like this dude, so I am hoping that he knows to hang back a little bit and not get too involved. We also go back to the whole like fucking celestial dragon thing where the Princess Shalia I guess the saint. She is screaming at all of the men for having let the slaves escape, having let her people escape, or her people being like the people responsible for this, and she is really ready to torture and kill for quite a long time, it's very clear she takes this as a personal affront. Now, the thing with the celestial dragons, and this is something that's a little bit This is tricky because I've been sort of the fact that we have a slavery storyline is very surprising. I didn't think we were going to get this dark. But also they have made every single one of the celestial dragons so like cartoonishly evil, and I'm kind of wondering if we're gonna get a celestial dragon who doesn't seem like quite such a two dimensional villain, because and here's the thing with me just sort of hoping a little bit for more dimension. I want there to be a sense of why these guys have managed to maintain power and being this awful. It's so hard for me to understand them managing to continue subjugating and nobody, like I guess I also don't really understand what kind of power they have inherently, so we haven't really seen a display from them. And maybe that's the reason why they've managed to continue running things for this long, is just because they can beat the fuck out of anybody who tries to come up against them. But I haven't actually seen that. So I'm starting to get to a place with these guys that I'm like, really, they're so uniformly awful to everybody that I can't buy anymore that they're in charge. Does that make sense, not to say that terrible people can't be in charge, But there's just like the tradition of this isn't quite enough for me. And I think also there's a part of me and I understand, and I admit that this is probably getting a little bit too like esoteric for a kid's story, which is what I always talk about One Piece as being, and I stand by that even though plenty of adults enjoy it, it feels much more geared towards like tweens. To me, there is an aspect of making everybody who owns a slave a complete monster, when I think it's a little bit more nuanced and interesting to be like, well, what if the people who own slaves aren't monsters, or some of them aren't in the way that you would think of the word monster, like genuinely malicious and mistreating people. But there's still monsters in the fact that they own slaves. It's just that they don't seem quite as hateful and vicious and cruel, because that's the reality. There were like plenty of people who were in families that own slaves or profited off of slavery that weren't themselves someone who would enjoy torturing and killing people, but who accepted this as how the world works, you know, And I wouldn't mind a slightly more nuanced approach to us getting to see like what that looks like in this world, because so far everybody is terrible. Gus says Duval was technically a slave trader before today. I don't know if that's really the same, though, Yeah, I guess that's true. I guess that's true. It's it's like so in the rear view mirror. I guess we didn't actually see him doing it. It sort of was over by the time we met his character, you know. So I think that's maybe why it doesn't quite land. But that's not nothing. But anyway, so they're asking me, what do you think is take the straw hats for so long? And they're thinking, well, we heard that things are kind of a mess at the port right now. Pirates and marines are fighting like crazy. I hope they didn't get caught in that, and I'm like, that's the thing they did, though, So Duval says to all of them, we've got to guard their ship with our very lives until the coating craftsman shows up and takes over. Don't budge an inch. And I really didn't think about the possibility of somebody going after their ship in the absence of them themselves, but I should have. And I'm feeling better that they're over here, like, you know, taking an interest in guarding this because it could really be a way to hobble them entirely. Then we go back to the bar where Hatchie is laying down covered in bandages, and we've got Kamie talking about how like worried she is about the straw hats, and she's saying, like, I really hope you're right. Papagoo is saying that she's getting upset over nothing and getting him worried about stuff over nothing because we've seen how strong Lufy is and there's no way that he's going to get beaten in a fight, and you know, he's just kind of getting impatient with her for worrying at all and saying that it's kind of infecting his vibe. And then Shocky chimes in and she says, look, I'm not saying he's not strong. He is, but it's possible that it's not gonna come down to who's the strongest. That may not be all it takes. So even though he is strong, I wouldn't get complacent about the fact that he's certainly going to come out on top because they're going to be in an ocean with waves bigger than they've ever seen, and she since says it's quiet. Can you hear it? Little by little, the tides are changing, and we get a kind of cool shot of the exterior of this whole archipelago, and the sky and the ocean itself are like orange because of the sun setting, and all of the bubbles are coming up. It's really really pretty, actually. So we go to Lufy and he is sailing through the air inside a kind of bubble like this, and Lufy is like crying out for his friends and saying, there's nothing I could do this, That warlord is going to pay for this, and then he starts to get down to more practical matters. How far have I flown? How long is this going to go on for? And where am I going to land? And all of these things, And he remembers that one guy talking about how he said that if you know he does this, the hit will send you flying for three days and three nights. And it's sort of fun. Outside of Lufy's like specific area, you can see even the toes around this like bubble that he's in, like the pawprint shape. I think that's fun. So Lufy decides he's bored and that he's just going to let himself sleep, and I think that's a very wise idea. So he closes his eyes and he is just thinking about how his friends are hopefully okay like he is, and we get a really cool, like milky way sort of looking sky that he's ying through. It's really pretty. This is extremely soothing, you know, in a lot of ways. So he sails right between some sea kings that are battling that like watch him go by and seem a little bit bemused by him, and eventually he lands on an island. He's like still asleep. So when he lands, he lands inside a giant pawprint because that was like the shape of the force that had sent him flying, which is kind of fun. And he wakes up and is a bit in a bit of a daze, and he's trying to figure out which way to go, remembers his Viver card and is deciding to follow that. What he doesn't notice is behind him this giant bore that has decided that Lufi is the perfect creature to eat for lunch, and it keeps trying to go after him, and he inadvertently is dodging it without even noticing it. When he goes off to the viver card to follow it, it chases him and it's like right behind him, and he's running in such a way that I at first thought he had caught sight of the boar and realized that it was after him, But then it becomes pretty clear he's just like very very eager to see his friends. There's an urgency to that, but it has nothing to do with knowing that the boar is there. And he eventually runs right up against like a wall of like it's like a cliff, and he's standing there looking at it, and the boar is watching him and sort of like thinking he's got him cornered. So Lufy decides, well, you know what, I can handle this, and he does his gum gum like pistol thing and punches a massive hole in the rock. And this is when the boar begins to sweat and realize is like, oh, I may have misjudged this little morsel that I thought I was gonna just pop in my mouth for a late afternoon snack. Maybe I don't want this smoke after all, And it's thinking this just as Lufy is like, oh, you know, I'm really hungry man, and I can't do much more if I don't get something to eat, and it backs away, but it steps on a twig and gets his attention, and he looks up at it and licks his lips and the boar starts crying and like waves his hoof like no, no, don't, and then we cut to smoke rising because Lufy has already roasted and eaten the whole thing and his stomach is all distended and there's nothing left on the bones of this skeleton. That's it. I don't know why this got me cracking up so bad, but it was. I really like the acknowledgement too, because Lufy's like, oh, that really brings me back Grandpa Garpp used to throw me in the jungle all the time. And he's saying this like it's a nostalgia thing, and then he sits up and goes, actually, that kind of sucked, and God is for that isn't like what aging is like. You know, you sit back and sort of reminisce about something and then it catches you, like objectively what you're saying, and you sit up and go, WHOA, that's actually really fucked up. I never thought about that, but he at this point is starting to like really get a bit emotional about missing his friends, and he's wandering around and he spots some mushrooms and he's feeling sad, so he's like, Oh, I think these are laughing mushrooms, and I'm going to eat these because they'll make me feel better. Basically, he's like, I'm gonna get stoned so that I don't feel my feelings, which I sympathize with. I get it, Lufy, and I am not mad at you for that. I'm just not mad at you. You know. We gotta do what we gotta do. But then he sees other mushrooms and he just is like, oh, let's try those, and they somehow make him really angry. He breathes fire at this point, and oddly, as he's eating all these different mushrooms, the camera goes back to the boar skeleton, which has like a drop of sweat coming off it, like even in death, the boar is a little bit anxious about Lufy eating these mushrooms, which is a really weird moment. I don't really get what that even is, but we have a montage of him just going fucking ham boor boor not intended, but he's eating all of these mushrooms with abandon despite how obviously they are not all safe, Like the it's just mushrooms one on one is you don't eat foraged mushrooms unless you really know what the fuck you're doing. So he is eating, and then all of a sudden, we have this weird sequence where we hear two people talking, these two women, but they are not We don't see their faces. We just see the faces of these two snakes with little helmets on. I think they're supposed to be sort of samuraized style helmets, but they look like de rags to me. And these little like snakes have these goofy ass faces. And the figures are coming toward the pillar of smoke from his fire and they are thinking. As it turns out, we find out that the Marines have like dropped anchor a little ways off the island, So these women are starting to think that maybe some of the Marines actually have come to the land and are like, you know, setting up camp here, which is like super duper against the rules. So they come running and then they see this figure on the ground, and it was pretty fun because they come to Lufy's rescue, but assume that he's a woman because they've never seen a man before, and so apparently they don't even know about like the difference in reproductive organs because later on when they come across some extra appendages, they don't know what to make of it. And this is a real like body horror moment because he's laid out on the ground and has got mushrooms growing off of and out of him, and it's really really upsetting, like they're coming out of his mouth and nose and stuff. It's just awful looking. So apparently the mushroom that he ate is parasitic and is going to eventually sap all of his life force and kill him, and so they have to help him. So they say say stay strong, small one will find aid, and they carry him back to their village, which we find out this place is all women, and like men who show up, it don't go well for them. When we actually see him being worked on, they are just pulling the mushrooms off him, and eventually they are told to bring him down to the river and get him washed up. And once they are down there and they have him undressed and they're washing him, that is when they feel that he has got a dick and balls, which they mistake for more mushrooms, which is just such a stupid joke, But I honestly couldn't help giggle a little bit because he is oh and they also have to light him on fire to like kill the bases of the mushrooms that are still like embedded in him, but he is completely unconscious, so they're just like yanking on his dick and balls thinking they're removing mushrooms, but they won't come off, and they're really going to town like pulling in a way that I was like, I'm kind of glad Lofy's unconscious for this, because this feels like it could be real uncomfortable if he were awake. And eventually, once it proves like too much that they won't be able to pull them off, they ask whether they should get everybody else in here to help them pull or if they should just light them on fire instead. And it's the kind of thing that there's a part of me that's a little bit suspicious about this plot, like maybe we just, you know, our author here just wanted to fantasize about a scenario in which all surrounded by women, they would just be feeling up on his junk, and that would simply be what they would do, and he created a completely impossible situation to ensure that that would happen. But the violence with which they're doing this, it makes me kind of second guess that. At the same time, cock and ball torture is a very real fetish, so I can't dismiss it completely that this is still part of like a fantasy thing, you know. It is just very funny, how like unsexy it is as it's happening, And all I could think was if this were Sanji, this situation would be very, very different. And I'm I'm wondering if Sanji is going to get to see these ladies or if it's just going to be a loofy plot line and that by the time he meets up with his friends, he'll be away from this community. I personally don't really want to see Sanji in this scenario, you know, But there is also a part of me that I feel like there their feelings about men being like havn't being bad tempered and violent and not really good for anything. While I definitely understand the basis for it, Sanji would be so accommodating and obsequious, that maybe they would like be okay with him because he is the model of you know what I'm saying, just whatever you say, my lady, like always always doing what he can to make the ladies happy, and maybe that would actually like work for him here. I don't know. So this, uh, this bit ends with there bringing like an ancient woman to the shore and asking her advice and her saying that this is a man, and the camera going from one face to another of all of these women who have never even seen a man before and are like completely flummixed about this, and it's really fun. We get a look at like the exterior of this island and Amazon Lily is the name of the island, and the there's like a rock formation in the center that I guess has been like carved to look like a bunch of art snakes bodies and heads and they have moss like growing on their backs. It's so cool, you guys. I really love this design. Like, I think in terms of actual structures, this might be one of my favorites of the series. It's just really really neat looking. I still stand by the Archipelago as being like the coolest overall idea. Because of the bubbles, it's hard to beat. But this just looks really really dope. And then we get the voice over of them being called the Kuja. These women, woe be to the man who dreams of this island, and woe be to the man who seeks it, for if they shall ever set foot upon its soil, death surely awaits them. And I will say that, you know, anytime that you have a man writing about an all women community, you gotta be a little bit like suspicious about how it's going to be. And I will say that I really appreciated there's at least a representation of many many different body types. Everybody's the same race pretty much. They all look pretty white. There's a couple exceptions where they don't, but like mostly and other than this one old lady, they do all seem to be very similar ages. There again, there's a couple of small we see, like a very small girl a little bit later, and of course they have the old lady here. But that's enough, Like, you know, I feel like actually pleased. The one woman named sweet Pea, who she's got like a very bodybuilder sort of looked to her. I really appreciated that there were no like jokes about that, and I feel like that's part of the advantage of not having Sanji involved is being surrounded by women. He would think of his immediately like a fantasy paradise, but then we would get the occasional joke about the type of women that he doesn't want to be around him and would I'm really not interested, But Lufy is so not sexualizing these ladies at all that their attractiveness simply isn't a factor for him to consider because that's not how he's seeing them. That lens isn't there, so it's much more about them as people and what they each bring to the table. And like, when I say different body types, I mean fat and thin as well as very huge. Like there's a woman who definitely is part giant, and of course I started to think about the Stephen Universe. I just want to see a giant woman. A giant woman. If you guys timen't watched Stephen Universe, highly recommended, but she uh. I assume that this entire like plotline spawned a whole lot of slash fick. Like there's literally a point in the in the next episode where one of the Marines yells for her to yell to keep bossing him around with like big heart eyes because he likes being dominated clearly. So I was like, oh, okay, I thought we were gonna have this be subtext, but it's just text. I am okay with that. That's fine. But yeah, this uh, the community being able to like they're portrayed in as respectful a way as I could reasonably hope for, I think, And we have a whole like bit with the narrator talking about how they don't need men, like occasionally one will leave and come back with child, but otherwise and they always give birth to girls. Don't know why, but otherwise they have this like really cool sort of self contained economy. And all of them wear a snake as a sort of accessory. They all have it styled in different ways. Some of them have it like around their neck like a scarf, some of them have them around their waist. The snakes, as far as I can tell, don't speak or really do much. And maybe we just haven't gotten to see it yet. But because there's like a serpent princess, I'm wondering if this is simply meant to be a mark of your community or if it or if they serve a particular purpose, because like I'm trying to look, I guess some of the women very occasionally there's one that doesn't have one of these snakes, but I really it's very few and far between, because there's like one woman who's chopping fruit, there's another woman who's sewing, another who seems to be planting rice. And when they're doing like chores and stuff like that, it seems like they don't have the snakes with them. But if they're just like walking around town and shopping or doing something that isn't work related, that's when they have the snakes with them, I guess. And of course, all of these women and this is like the exception to oh Gus says, the snake stocks will also function as their bows. I forgot, thank you, guys. This is the one exception to me saying, like portrayed with as much respect as all of these women are as scantily clad as it's possible to be and still be obeying the requirements for like television. All they are all wearing two pieces. All of them are either in like briefs and a bikini top or like a sports bra and a loincloth is something like this. It's always very teeny tiny. Another thing that is in its favor, though, is that even the fat women are in these totally skimpy outfits, which is the sort of thing that if you are somebody who notices this stuff, you'll get what I'm saying. A lot of times fat women's bodies aren't given the same clothing styles on TV because it's not what anybody wants to see, quote unquote. And unfortunately we even run into this in like the Barbie movie. There's a fat Barbie, which I really was pleased by, like that was a surprise and I didn't expect it, and I was like, oh, okay, cool. But there's a scene when they're all gathered around Barbie on the beach on like a set of risers kind of, and all of the Barbies are in these sort of traditional Barbie bathing suit designs that are they look kind of normal, and then the fat Barbie is literally in like knee length shorts under a swim skirt with a top that's practically a turtleneck, and it's like she's like covered from knee to neck in the midst of these other women who are like not they're been suits are odd looking, but none of them cover them up the way that hers does, so it's this is always a thing. It was also a bit of the complaint when a lot of people saw the promo material for Melissa McCarthy as Ursula that she is wearing. Traditionally, the Disney's Ursula has a strapless top like that it's part of her octopus look, but it doesn't go up over her shoulders or anything. It's just like the strapless edge coming up over her tits like a strapless dress would. And Melissa McCarthy, they have her in like a full up all the way up to the nape of her neck, cutting down in like a V neck, but then flaring out even over like her upper arms and shoulders. They have her covered up so much more, and many people theorized that this was simply because she's fat, you know, and Ursula is supposed to be fat. That's a big part of the look of her character and why so many fat people cause play as her, because there are precious few fat characters in cartoons that are fun to cause play as, and for them to just be like, yeah, we're not doing that. You could look at it as either a purely in a vacuum design choice, or you could be realistic about how infrequently fat women are permitted to show their bodies and admit that that was likely a factor of just not wanting to show a fat body. So as much as I want to like kind of snort at the fact that this all women community, they're basically prancing around and string bikinis all the time, I really do appreciate that, no matter what their body type is, their prancing around like that, and that is pretty gratifying, Like it's just not something that you see. And we get a really fun wrestling match between a couple of characters named Poppy and Pansy, and I think it's Pansy is the redhead, the real giant fat one, and she just knocks Poppy out and it's like a devastating blow. So when we have the moment where Lufy wakes up and he's been bandaged up but is naked otherwise, and all of the women are looking through the bars at him and just fascinated with the whole like the fact that he has a totally flat chest and shaggy hair, and they're all really curious about him, and I was like, think to myself, I bet Lufy is not going to be phased at all by the fact that he's naked. A lot of other characters would be, but I've kind of feeling it's not really going to bother him, and that is correct. He wakes up and it takes a moment for him to even notice that he's naked, and once he does, he's just kind of like, oh, whatever, this moment, you guys, is so he doesn't remember what happened. All he recalls is like eating those mushrooms and you know, landing here and stuff. And then he notices his hat's missing, and there's a woman in I think it's Sweet Pete who's wearing it, and he reaches out with his rubber ability and grabs it, and all of the women assume that means that all men have the ability to turn themselves into rubber And I love this Guy's not only that they're just attributing anything Lufy does to like that's male behavior, but also the fact that, like, he is naked and does not give a shit, but the one piece of clothing that he's like, I will get that back at least is his hat and he is insistent upon it, so he grabs his hat back and he They are like, so, what's your name? And he says, Oh, I'm Lufy, and then oh, that's weird. I'm naked. It's kind of breezing in here. Anyone know where my stuff went? And like I said, he's just so chill about it. There's not a panic. Oh my god, and covers himself up, goes and grabs the blanket. No, he's just like, huh, well, I mean, I'd kind of rather not be naked. It's a little bit chilly. So at this point I can't remember what her name. Oh, Margaret, pardon me for asking, but before you get dressed, could you please tell us what's in that little bag that's between your legs there? Bag? Come on, you don't know what those are? Those are my family jewels. And they all think they're actual jewels and want to cut the bag open and look at them. And when he won't do it, Margaret accuses him of being a cheap skate, which I thought was pretty funny. Like, I actually really liked this. This joke is so so childish and immature, but I'm not mad about it. I just am not so Lufy gets a batch of clothes because his were shredded, and Margaret says, I made these for you. They're exact versions of what you had, but I just added some improvements. And then he puts them on and he is feeling a bit of a way because the vest has flowers all over it. She's like embroidered or I don't know what, and Lufy, this bummed me out a little bit. Lufy reacts pretty badly to this, and what they needed for the episode is for Lufy to get upset about something so that the ladies could have a really strong reaction to him, because it would seem like he is about to lose his temper. So I understand needing to, like, you know, insert a little plot point that would rile him up. But I don't like thinking about like fragile masculinity Lufy, and he like, there's lace edging to this, and he finally is just like, what the hell is wrong with you? Are you trying to make fun of me? And all of the women back up and immediately pull their bows and notch their arrows and are ready to fire on him and are like this is what we thought along. Finally he's showing his true nature because as a man, he's always got to be pulling shit. He's growling and snapping like the beast he is, and Lucy very quickly realizes that maybe he misstepped here, and he says like, Hey, I'm sorry for getting so upset when you were nice enough to like make me these clothes. But also, you guys just said that you saved my life and I don't even know what happened, so could you tell me what went on there? And one of the women explains about how the mushroom thing went down, and he's like, oh, okay, well, thank you, I appreciate that. Sorry for flipping out and complaining about the clothes. Just don't shoot me. But the main leader here, she's got dark hair and like purple eyeshadow. She is first, your apologies mean nothing. Secondly, you're not allowed here as a man. You're supposed to be killed. Thirdly, Margaret is probably going to be tried for bringing a man into our midst, which is really unfair because if you don't know what men look like, how can you not bring them into their midst? Because you aren't educated enough to be able to tell a man from a woman. That feels like you should have taught them the basics so that they don't do that by a mistake. But anyway, she's trying to convince him like I'll kill you and then we can keep this whole incident secret and it doesn't have to go any further than this, which I did find funny because literally the whole town is here that is super not secret. I mean, somebody is gonna tell like, it's too late, girl, this isn't gonna be secret. That's the end of that. Gus says. That's one of the rare times the joke translates pretty well. The world for the word for testicles in Japanese is kintama, which sounds the same as golden balls. Also agreed they should have just did the getting mad part when he got mad about them wanting to take his balls off to look at them. That's a good point, Gus. We didn't need the clothing thing. It could have just been like, you want to cut my balls open? What the fuck is wrong with you? So this is when he tries to be like, my friends want to see me. I need to get to them, and they release their arrows and there is a pretty strong like blowback after they fire, but he's in there just fine. Of course he is. This moment, there's like an explosion out the roof because he he kicks his way out and flees, which they didn't know he could do. So he begins to run, and as he runs through town, there's an ongoing joke about how he keeps stealing food from either the street vendors or from people who are just eating. And I thought that was really funny. I did think, like just that bit about him still being preoccupied with food even as he's fleeing for his life. I liked it. I thought that was a pretty good joke. So he continues running, and eventually he's like realizing, I don't even know where to head toward because I don't have my favor card anymore. So he grabs up Margaret and he jumps off a cliff with her and then does the thing where he blows himself up to cushion their landing so that he falls like a giant balloon. Understandably, Margaret is very much like, what the fuck was that you jumped off a fucking cliff? How did you turn fat like that? Why did you pull me off with you to begin with like, what the hell is going on? And eventually she pulls the Vivor card out of her bra because she did indeed save it since it had writing on it, she had a hunch that it was probably like somewhat important to him, and he gets really excited and sort of showing her the way that it works, that it moves on its own. And as this is all happening, she's getting a little bit frustrated at the fact that the more they talk, the more attached to him she's gonna get. She eventually like even admits that this is a potential problem and I love the Lufy is like, well, thanks for saving my life and making these clothes and taking the flowers off of them when I asked, and giving me my Vivor card. If there's any thing I could do for you, just let me know. And she's like, yeah, look, take out your family tools so I could see them. Men are savages and cheap skates. He's just yet like, put the sword down and leave my jewels alone, please, oh, Lufy. So this is when he says, my friends and I are pirates. Are you pirates or not? Are you pirates? Do you know what pirates? Are here, and she's like, oh yeah, our ruler is a pirate and he's like, you got an all girl pirate crew. That's pretty cool. And I love when he says are they strong? And she just says, what a foolish question. Only the most elite are allowed to ride aboard the pirate ship with our emperors, so of course, And she just looked out into the middle distance and is like, all of our women are you know, in awe of the snake, Princess Boa Hancock And I have to be real, the fact that her name is Hancock is a real weird choice, Like why we gotta put the word cock in the name of the leader of the all woman island. I'm just just asking questions, that's all. I just want to know what that that feels very pointed. I'm just saying. And this is you know, the end of the episode is her saying like truth be told, Her and her sisters are our heroes. And we get to see the ship and it's coming upon the marine ship, which a couple of the lookouts on the island begin to alert the rest of the community that their princess has returned, and everybody's starting to be like shit, really going to have to do something about this fucking man on the island because she's going to be mad about that and she could be here at any second. So then we jump into the next episode, which is mostly hanging around with the See the Snake Princess, who I keep wanting to call the Serpent Empress, and that is not it, but I also kind of prefer it. Lufy isn't really thinking things through as usual, so he's about to leave and go find his friends, and then he sort of stops and realizes, I guess I'll need a ship actually, which Mark Grit is like, man, you really are moving a little bit too fast, and she says, we don't have any ships. We're in a calm belt and we are surrounded by sea kings, so the only ship we've got is the one that the princess is on. She says castaways do occasionally make their way to our shores, but almost always as corpses, which I'm going to just assume that they are fully clothed, because these women should know what a man looks like if they're dealing with corpses, but they don't, so let's just pretend that they're all wearing you know, a full three piece suit and everything is discreetly covered up. But yeah, the ship is pulled by two poisonous sea kings, so nobody dares to attack it. Lufy is just like, God, damn it, Maybe I should just build a raft and paddle my way there, And just as Margaret's like, that's a joke, isn't it, he tells himself, Oh, that's actually an amazing idea. Why don't I do that? And we jump ahead to him standing on a raft that you could barely call a raft. It really just looks like a bunch of trees that got like temporarily lodged together in like the eddy of a river, and they break apart under him almost instantly, so, of course, since he can't swim, he goes plummeting to the bottom, and Margaret is once again obliged to save his life and she rescues him, and it's like, hey, I did not have to do that, but I keep on saving your life, and honestly, I mean, I'm kind of tired of this, Like you should have just run. Why did you have to cling to me of all people. I don't want anything to do with this mess, This is getting to be an issue. So he's laying there on the ground while she's looking at him with this sort of like regretful expression, and she finally like knocks an arrow again and is pointing it at him, and it's like, maybe I should just kill you before I start to get too attached to you and finish this problem before it starts. And Lucy says, why do you even want to shoot me? She begins actually firing at him, and he's dodging while he asks her the question, and he pulls out one of the arrows because they are going into the stone like a foot deep, and he says something about how these arrows are going hard, but they aren't made of anything unusual, and she says, well, they're imbued with our hockey. You're mocking me, aren't you? And he says, hockey never heard of it? So I guess he just doesn't remember pretty much anything from the human auction. But it is funny to me that she says, are you mocking me? As if him pretending to not know what hockey is, although we know he really doesn't know, as if this is like such a common thing that not knowing about it is absurd just like you know. I think it's surprising there's a community where we've got hockey as such a matter of course that everybody uses it, when our friends don't even know what it is yet and have only just stumbled across a person who can use it at all. So then we go over to the actual snake princess and she is talking to the guy from the Marines. He is I can't remember. He's an admiral, I think, and he is kind of feeling himself because they killed one of the sea kings over here, and there's a deal that they've got going. It says the agreement between the Kuja and our government forgives forbids us from getting closer than three kilometers from your island. So like tools here we are waiting while you're lady, while you ladies take your sweet time. And as he's talking to her, a couple of the Marines are whispering that there's a rumor the princess can turn men into stone. And it took me a little while, you guys, to finally put it together. Here, how we've got some parallels with Medusa, the snake motif and the turning men to stone thing. I did not get it at first, so yeah, she the princess is like, oh, I'm pretty impressed that you managed to kill one of these things. We get a little like cutaway scene of how it went down, not necessary to get into, and eventually when we come back to the present, he is standing there and saying, if I didn't kill it, how could I call myself vice admiral? And the Marines are all cheering, So back to the present day they are. The woman who's like speaking for the princess is saying, the marks on the sea King are kind of weird, like were you inside it cutting out? How did you even do that? And he's like, that's none of your business, don't worry about it. Are you guys going to uphold your end of and handle the situation or not? And finally demands the prince has come out, and this woman it's really funny because she is being treated as the most beautiful woman in the world. But I think that a lot of the characters we've seen are like way prettier than her, So you just have to sort of accept that for whatever reason, she is considered exceptional even amongst these many, many beautiful women. The intro we get is of her kicking a kitten out of the way, so we get to really see, in true Stephen King fashion, that she's a fucking monster. That's for those who don't know. Stephen King loves introducing villain characters by having them do something shitty to an animal to signal how awful they are. And it's so sometimes like so upsetting. But yeah, she kicks the kitten. The kitten winds up being fine. But I was really startled by that. I was super saddened. I didn't want this lady to be this monstrous, but she is. So she's standing there, She's got this like you know, long skirt and plunging neckline, these very cool serpent earrings that look dope. Honestly, I have a pair that's very similar that I've been wanting to wear. I have to find the right outfit for them. And all of the marines are noses wide open. They are just so fucking into it. Meanwhile, by the way, Lufy is like getting chased on the land by the others who are like trying to kill him as best they can before the princess gets back and gets angry at them. So this is when we get an interest reduction to the Gorgon's sisters. The youngest is Boa Marigold, and she has really wild hair. The other is let's see Boa sort of Sandersonia, and she has green hair and a snakelike tongue. It's a only the main one who is really human looking. The others don't quite look human. So she just says to the admiral, I don't really like the world government, so no offense, but no, I'm not helping you guys, like I'm definitely not doing that. Also, I want your stuff, so it'd be great if you would just give me all your stuff, and please don't wind about it, if you can do me a favorite and just do it without fucking making a big deal out of it. And the Admiral's like, the fuck do you think we're really going to do it? But then he turns around and all the men are carrying shit off of their ship to her, and the admiral was like, what the fuck dudes, and they're like, hey, sorry about it, we couldn't resist, and they lay they go ahead and like they it seems like they're gonna stop, like they're not going to give her the stuff. I feel like maybe they unloaded a lot of it already before this happens, and that's why she ends up like feeling free to turn them into stone. But you don't really see them like going back and forth, so it wasn't totally clear to me. I'm just going to assume that she got everything that she wanted because she just seems like the type of woman that gets everything that she wants. You know, she just does. And she tells him, all right, well, if you to play it the way you want to play it, I will transform all of you guys into stone. And you can just tell them that's what happened to them. And the men start to get anxious and are saying, oh, I've heard about how this is. You know this could happen that one ship was discovered with just like a bunch of weird statues on it. But the admiral is not hearing it, and it's like, you're about to have a temper tantrum. I don't think so. So she's like, all right, I guess if that's how you want to play it, and she stands up and she says, the reason that I can do whatever I want. I could kick a kitten and yank off your ears and even commit murder. But the world would forgive me is because I am beautiful. And she says this, and all of the women start cheering, and the men lose their minds. One of them yells out, you can abuse me all you want, your Highness, and then she closes her eyes and she says, the guilty thoughts swimming in your hearts shall turn your flesh to stone. And as she says it, their eyes go into hearts and she reaches out and does the love love beam, and that's how they turn to stone. And I'm really confused about how the love love beam causes them to turn to stone. I don't really get it. Meanwhile, the Admiral looks up and hasn't turned to stone, and she walks up to him and sees that he drove his sword through his hand so that the guilty thoughts wouldn't be in his mind because he'd be so distracted by the pain. And she's like, yeah, you know what, that's pretty good. I gotta hand it to you, pun intended, but you're the only one left. And he pulls the blade out and says one is not zero, and I was like, that's actually a pretty badass line, like, you know, I'm not mad at it. I am a little bit bummed that instead of her just being like an incredibly badass warrior, the whole thing is just I get meant to do what I want because I'm hot. That is a bit nothing. You know, what can you do? The rest of her women are badasses, So I guess we could take it, but it does seem especially it's funny, like as a woman, I know the concept of getting away with things because you're beautiful. While that can be true in a certain sense, it's also something that will actively work against you in the wrong context. Like if you are somebody accused of murder and you are a beautiful woman, there is a lot about your beauty that can be played against you in the eyes of a jury. Because women are just not really trusted by society in general, and so a lot of women have to play down their looks and make themselves look almost more matronly in order to be seen as less threatening. If they are too beautiful, that is the threat, and it can cause a sense of resentment not only in other women, but in men as well, depending on the context. So the whole energy of this, like I get what he's doing, but it's also just so untrue threw in a fundamental sense. But yeah, this dude is telling her as he's like watching her sail away that he's going to go tattle on her to the world government basically and her position as a warlord will be revoked. And she just says, I guess, do what you feel like, and that's the end of the episode. Weird ending. So yeah, all right, guys, I'm gonna wrap this one up, but thank you so much Gabrielle again for commissioning this, and thank you Guss and Brian for hanging out in the chat with me. Appreciate you both, And until next time to lou Motherfucker's That was an Unspoiled Network podcast talking about about the book, about the park, about the part that was an Unspoiled Network podcast
