- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way, hey?
- 0:27Everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30The girls are having breakfast. I'm sitting out here under a
- 0:33tree. It's.
- 0:33Later than normal. Sun is up so it's not 6:00 in
- 0:38the morning. Now we're talking about tools.
- 0:42Believe it or not, it's crazy to me how having the right tool can
- 0:48change the way you feel about a task.
- 0:52We're going to talk about my boots and I consider my boots a
- 0:57very important aspect of my day. So when I come out here in the
- 1:00morning and I go. To the.
- 1:02Chicken coop. I never wear my normal shoes,
- 1:05sneakers, whatever. I always wear my boots.
- 1:08My literally these are called muck boots, which is just the
- 1:12best. Now I never had muck boots, OK.
- 1:16I always would go in to Tractor Supply and I would buy cute
- 1:19boots that had chickens on them or whatever little thing that
- 1:24they put on and these rubber boots.
- 1:25But here's the thing. Inevitably, these boots would
- 1:28fall apart. They don't last a long time.
- 1:31And I got really frustrated with the fact that I would be out
- 1:34here, it would be muddy. It would be whatever the rain
- 1:37comes and boom, my boots leak. And I would get infuriated about
- 1:42that. And I would say I need to go get
- 1:44a new pair of boots. And then I would go right back
- 1:46to where I had gotten those boots and I would buy the same
- 1:50damn boots. And so earlier, few, probably
- 1:54like maybe 8 months ago when we were in a really, really
- 1:58torrential downpour season, like we had days and days and days
- 2:01and days and days of rain. My boots leaked again.
- 2:05And I didn't even think anything.
- 2:07I was like, I need new boots. And I make an offhand comment in
- 2:10the truck to my son who's extraordinarily practical with
- 2:13things. And he says, I said, I need to
- 2:15go to Tractor Supply. You want to go to Tractor
- 2:17Supply, I need to get new boots. So he's like, sure, we go and I
- 2:21go pick him up and he goes, aren't those the same boots you
- 2:23had? I said, yeah.
- 2:24And he goes, well, you know, they're going to leak.
- 2:26And I said, well, that was the last pair.
- 2:27He goes, well, actually it's been quite a few pairs.
- 2:29And I started laughing and I said, you know what?
- 2:31You're right. And he goes, why?
- 2:33Why do you want to keep getting those?
- 2:35And I said, I don't know, I just like them because they have that
- 2:39on there. And he goes, well, you need a
- 2:40pair of really like boots that you can't break, boots that
- 2:45you're not going to ruin with all the things that you do.
- 2:48And I just stopped and looked at him and he turns around and he
- 2:50says to me, mom, you got to have the right tool for the job.
- 2:55And I just paused and I was like, Oh my gosh, how right is
- 2:58he? So I bought these again, they
- 3:02were at Tractor Supply. That's The funny thing.
- 3:04And I, and this is not an endorsement for Tractor Supply.
- 3:07This is just the place I shop all the time.
- 3:09And lo and behold, there they were, muck boots.
- 3:13They're not attractive. They're all black, but they're
- 3:15super comfortable and they never have a problem.
- 3:19And I'm like, why didn't I do this before?
- 3:22What was the reason I didn't do this before?
- 3:24Well, I was emotionally purchasing the other boots.
- 3:28Instantaneous emotions were showing up for me when I walked
- 3:31in and saw the cute little boots with the flowers or the chickens
- 3:35or the peace signs, and they were selling to me.
- 3:38But the muck boots are really like very practical black, solid
- 3:43black boots, rubber on the bottom, neoprene on the top.
- 3:47I mean, they're, they're like indestructible boots and they
- 3:52have them made for, I mean, they, they fit me.
- 3:54I have them. So what was, what was it that
- 3:56was happening to me? Because I was emotionally caught
- 3:58up in the cuteness, not realizing that that part was
- 4:02really becoming a problem. The the cuteness was not giving
- 4:05me what I essentially needed in having a really, really good
- 4:09pair of boots that I could do whatever I wanted to in like.
- 4:13So I had to stop and say to myself, this is not the right
- 4:16tool. So now here I've had these boots
- 4:18for months and this morning I come out and it's warm, there's
- 4:21no rain, but I still put my muck boots on and I think, huh, right
- 4:25tool for the job. I still hear him saying it in my
- 4:27head. I can hear that.
- 4:28Get the right tool for the job. I come out here and of course
- 4:32I'm not paying attention and I step in chicken poop because
- 4:35there's, there's chicken poop in the chicken coop run area and
- 4:39I'm opening the gate. They're leaving.
- 4:41And here I am and I look down and it's on the bottom of my
- 4:44boot, but I don't care because it's on the bottom of a boot
- 4:47that's meant to do the job. And I don't have to worry about
- 4:49my feet getting all crapped up literally.
- 4:52And I just started laughing and I thought, where else does this
- 4:55show up in life that I don't have the right tool and I really
- 4:59need to have the right tools Immediately I walk in and I've
- 5:02got this beat up old broom that I refuse to throw away because
- 5:08I've just been like, oh, it, it still works.
- 5:10But it, you know, sometimes brooms the handle twists off the
- 5:13bottom. Well, it happened this morning
- 5:15and I looked and I said this is not the right tool for the job
- 5:18anymore. So I'm going to finish this up.
- 5:20I'm going to go in and get dressed and I'm going to go to
- 5:23Lowe's and buy a new broom because I need the right tool
- 5:26for the job. And I'm going to go and make a
- 5:28list today of all the things that I am tolerating as tools
- 5:33that I know are making my job harder.
- 5:36And I'm sure there are a few. I, I know there are some,
- 5:39especially when it comes to being here on the farm.
- 5:41Like I tolerate tools that need to be sharpened or need to get a
- 5:45better tool for the job because it's just like, oh, I don't like
- 5:48to be wasteful. But again, where else does that
- 5:50slow us down? And where does that prevent us
- 5:52from being more successful? So my friends, what tools do you
- 5:56have that you need to replace and get better tools for the
- 5:59job? I'm going to go buy some stuff
- 6:02today. I hope you guys have a blessed
- 6:04day and I'll see you tomorrow.
