- 0:01Speaker 1: We're close to another major college football weekend. The NFL
- 0:04Speaker 1: cranks up tonight with the 0-4 Buccaneers against the 2-2 Cowboys.
- 0:11Speaker 1: The kind of thing that makes you feel like, boy,
- 0:13Speaker 1: if you're a gambler, it looks so easy tonight. Lance
- 0:16Speaker 1: will educate us on that coming up here.
- 0:19Speaker 2: In a moment.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Later in the show, week two of the Righteous Gemstone Locks.
- 0:26Speaker 1: What was the week one record? I forgot. It was
- 0:28Speaker 1: close to 7-0. So 6-1? I'll go back and check,
- 0:32Speaker 1: but I think I nailed every one of them.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Don't remember one of your picks.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I know.
- 0:37Speaker 3: I know.
- 0:37Speaker 1: That's why I can say 7-0. We will never know.
- 0:40Speaker 2: We will never know.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I don't think our audience will know unless they faded you. Yeah,
- 0:44Speaker 1: I've got it where there were such strange picks. There were.
- 0:46Speaker 1: We'll try to pull some out. of our robes a
- 0:50Speaker 1: little bit later on in the righteous gemstone locks. But
- 0:52Speaker 1: we'll start with a little baseball. God, did the Yankees
- 0:56Speaker 1: lose again last night? They happened to, yeah. Oh, we
- 1:00Speaker 1: got a pennant. Well, you haven't won the pennant yet. Well,
- 1:04Speaker 1: we beat the Yankees last night. Throwback uniforms, did y'all
- 1:06Speaker 1: like them? I did. It's funny, I didn't like those
- 1:10Speaker 1: in real time, like when they were actually your uniforms.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Me too. But as they're throwbacks, I'm like, yeah, I
- 1:15Speaker 1: kind of like that. Me too. I was so happy
- 1:17Speaker 1: when they got rid of the devil and they brought
- 1:19Speaker 1: the Rays in and then they ended up... getting good
- 1:23Speaker 1: with the race and they bring these back and it
- 1:25Speaker 1: looked good last night. What'd y'all think of the call?
- 1:27Speaker 2: I thought it was just idiotic, uh, fan behavior.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Um, like no, no, a little bit better. And that's
- 1:33Speaker 1: not like a natural reaction. He reached over the fence
- 1:36Speaker 1: and I believe it was going to hit.
- 1:37Speaker 2: The top of the wall.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Yeah. I think it was top and go over. I
- 1:41Speaker 1: think it was.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Going to hit the top and go over. But again,
- 1:44Speaker 2: that's just, you know, I, and seeing all the different
- 1:47Speaker 2: angles and apparently video replay completely disagreed with that. And
- 1:50Speaker 2: they gave him a double and, They get out of
- 1:52Speaker 2: the inning, and that proves to be the difference.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I didn't know you could do what they did. In
- 1:58Speaker 1: my mind, I thought, well, it would be just a
- 2:00Speaker 1: straight-up ground rule double then, put the guy at second
- 2:03Speaker 1: and the guy that was on first at third. But apparently,
- 2:05Speaker 1: as they were walking through the process, they can sit
- 2:08Speaker 1: there and say, oh, yeah, that guy from first was
- 2:10Speaker 1: going to score. He wasn't going to catch the ball.
- 2:13Speaker 2: It actually was a bad defensive play. It wasn't even close,
- 2:16Speaker 2: and it was going to. at worst case or best
- 2:19Speaker 2: case for Tampa, depending on how you're looking at it,
- 2:22Speaker 2: was going to bounce off the wall and go back in.
- 2:23Speaker 2: So he definitely would have scored.
- 2:25Speaker 1: And your guy is probably down on the ground after
- 2:27Speaker 1: hitting the wall like that. So that ball is going
- 2:28Speaker 1: to lay out there for a minute. There was going
- 2:30Speaker 1: to be some time to run. I'm with LT. The
- 2:32Speaker 1: guy from first was going to score. Likely it was
- 2:34Speaker 1: going to be a triple. I think it would have
- 2:36Speaker 1: been a triple because the ball is going to roll
- 2:37Speaker 1: out and your guy is probably going to be on
- 2:38Speaker 1: the ground for a second. I'm watching my first baseball
- 2:43Speaker 1: of the season this week. Am I the only... Does
- 2:47Speaker 1: this only happen in Yankee Stadium? Because the most famous
- 2:50Speaker 1: example of this is from Yankee Stadium. That's what I
- 2:52Speaker 1: was about to say.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Jeffrey Mayer and Tony Tarasco.
- 2:54Speaker 1: That was in right field.
- 2:55Speaker 2: That was 30 years ago. But, you know, that wasn't
- 2:57Speaker 2: going to be a home run.
- 2:58Speaker 1: No, Tarasco had that ball caught. He was standing under it.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Do you remember how pissed he was? Didn't that benefit
- 3:03Speaker 1: the Yankees? Yeah, because there was no video replay.
- 3:07Speaker 2: They called it a home run. It was a Derek
- 3:08Speaker 2: Jeter home run.
- 3:09Speaker 1: That's right. A lot of people, did they call the
- 3:11Speaker 1: Orioles a series?
- 3:13Speaker 2: I don't remember, but I remember the Orioles being really,
- 3:15Speaker 2: really good. And I think it was a hell of
- 3:16Speaker 2: a series. And it became, I guess, so controversial because
- 3:20Speaker 2: they could have won the series.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Jeffrey Mayer, right? That was his name. And he actually
- 3:23Speaker 1: got celebrated. He was the opposite of the Bartman guy
- 3:25Speaker 1: in Chicago. This seemed more important than the Bartman thing
- 3:30Speaker 1: to me. The Bartman thing was in a World Series.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Yeah, the Bartman thing, though, with the way the Cubs
- 3:37Speaker 2: history had been up until that point, the Bartman was
- 3:40Speaker 2: a bigger deal. But I guarantee if you turn on
- 3:43Speaker 2: WFAN this morning.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I did.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Were they killing this guy, the fan?
- 3:48Speaker 1: Yeah, they were like, that's just stupid fan behavior.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I mean, it really is.
- 3:51Speaker 1: I was listening to Boomer and Geo on the way in.
- 3:54Speaker 1: And Geo, not Boomer, besides Geo that hosts the show
- 3:58Speaker 1: with him, Greg Giannotti, was like, I think he was saying,
- 4:01Speaker 1: so this was in left field, right?
- 4:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Yeah, so I was thinking he was saying, for some reason,
- 4:05Speaker 1: the right field fans, they're there all the time. The
- 4:08Speaker 1: left field fans, maybe that's like more general admission or whatever.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Like right field season tickets. And he's like, you watch
- 4:14Speaker 1: if they hit it to right field, because apparently it
- 4:15Speaker 1: happened earlier in the series.
- 4:16Speaker 5: It did.
- 4:17Speaker 1: And he said the fans in right field got out
- 4:19Speaker 1: of the way. They did the right thing and got
- 4:20Speaker 1: out of the way.
- 4:21Speaker 2: It's interesting because, you know, they do, they love, you know,
- 4:27Speaker 2: crediting themselves is the most intelligent fan baseball, a baseball
- 4:30Speaker 2: fan base. I think Yankees fans are a disgusting bunch. Yeah.
- 4:34Speaker 2: But if you're that intelligent and that knowledgeable of baseball,
- 4:37Speaker 2: but maybe it was people just coming for that. Yeah.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Apparently like right field is season ticket holders and they're,
- 4:42Speaker 1: they make a, They're like the, you know, I don't
- 4:45Speaker 1: know how to describe this. I'm not a Yankees guy,
- 4:46Speaker 1: but here's the play right there all the time. And
- 4:49Speaker 1: apparently the left field is a little more transient group there.
- 4:51Speaker 1: So are they buy their tickets? You know, some money,
- 4:54Speaker 1: money bros that bought their tickets to be right there
- 4:57Speaker 1: and try to get a home run souvenir. Yeah, well,
- 4:59Speaker 1: it's a natural reaction. So here's the question. There's the
- 5:02Speaker 1: still photo there. You see where, you know, is it
- 5:05Speaker 1: going to hit the top of the fence and go
- 5:07Speaker 1: over at the top of the wall and come back in?
- 5:10Speaker 1: never it's not going to be a clean home run
- 5:12Speaker 1: whatever it is it's going to hit something uh not
- 5:15Speaker 1: not beyond the fence but it was a controversial moment
- 5:18Speaker 1: but i remember us talking about the bartman thing back
- 5:21Speaker 1: in the day so do you think this guy somebody
- 5:26Speaker 1: ran down and got an interview with him or would
- 5:27Speaker 1: you have stayed uh you wouldn't have done any interviews
- 5:31Speaker 1: and try to get out of there like would you
- 5:32Speaker 1: have left the game early Would you have bailed?
- 5:35Speaker 2: Chicago fans are nice. Yankees fans, much like Dodgers fans,
- 5:39Speaker 2: might gut you, take you out to a train yard
- 5:43Speaker 2: somewhere and they never see you again.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I would be no interviews. In fact, I'd say, guys,
- 5:47Speaker 1: I'm out of here. Let's get out of here. Let's
- 5:48Speaker 1: get out of here early. Let's go and hit the road.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Again, I know that's difficult because it is a natural reaction.
- 5:53Speaker 2: But if you're a Yankees fan, which those guys were,
- 5:55Speaker 2: you've got to kind of know the situation, right?
- 5:58Speaker 1: Okay, let me ask another thing.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Because you reach over, you know that it is fan
- 6:02Speaker 2: interference at that point.
- 6:03Speaker 1: What if they're wearing Tampa Bay Rays gear? Oh, you'd
- 6:08Speaker 1: probably get beat down. No, I'm just saying. But it's
- 6:10Speaker 1: the same rule, though, right? Oh, it's the same rule, yeah.
- 6:13Speaker 1: They make the same call at that point?
- 6:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:15Speaker 1: But I would imagine if you're wearing Rays gear, it
- 6:18Speaker 1: goes way differently for you in the left field stand.
- 6:20Speaker 1: But it makes no sense that the rule, it could
- 6:22Speaker 1: be a Tampa Bay Rays guy leaning over and almost
- 6:25Speaker 1: helping the team out at that point.
- 6:26Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 6:28Speaker 1: But the ruling would have been the same. It was weird.
- 6:30Speaker 2: But I guess you don't know at that point if
- 6:33Speaker 2: the ball is actually going over or not.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I know. When it's slowed down, even those poor guys there,
- 6:38Speaker 1: it's just, as you said, it's a natural reaction. Because
- 6:41Speaker 1: you take those seats. If you're choosing on whatever app
- 6:46Speaker 1: you're on, you're picking your seat for the game, buying
- 6:48Speaker 1: secondary market. If you buy those seats right there... You're
- 6:52Speaker 1: talking all day. You're like, man, we're going to get
- 6:53Speaker 1: us a home run ball.
- 6:54Speaker 3: That's right.
- 6:54Speaker 1: We're going to get us a home run ball. That's
- 6:56Speaker 1: a front row left field, man.
- 6:57Speaker 2: You cost your home team in a regular season 162-game season,
- 7:00Speaker 2: I don't have a problem with it. No big deal. But,
- 7:02Speaker 2: you know, when they're on the brink of elimination and
- 7:04Speaker 2: ultimately get eliminated, by the way, your Rays are going
- 7:07Speaker 2: to be playing three games in only 14 days with
- 7:10Speaker 2: the way the layoffs have been when the ALCS starts up.
- 7:14Speaker 1: It didn't seem to affect you this time.
- 7:16Speaker 2: You know how long the Yankees led that series? Zero.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Never had to leave.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Y'all had the week off and were lights out.
- 7:23Speaker 2: And I think we were off the air. We were
- 7:24Speaker 2: talking about Aaron Boone yesterday.
- 7:26Speaker 1: He's got to be out.
- 7:27Speaker 2: But you think about $ 303 million payroll to your $ 91
- 7:29Speaker 2: million payroll. They were celebrating... The Rays were celebrating at
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yankee Stadium two weeks ago when they clinched the East.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Now they're celebrating last night in front of that fan base.
- 7:41Speaker 2: That's tough.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know how Boone survives this. See
- 7:45Speaker 1: the celebration in the locker room. Started by Cash the
- 7:49Speaker 1: skipper who said family bus leaves at 11. Team bus
- 7:55Speaker 1: leaves at 11.45. Nobody goes to sleep, and he starts
- 7:58Speaker 1: shaking and starts whispering. That's awesome, yeah. Because they don't
- 8:01Speaker 1: play for a while. They get plenty of sleep coming.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Three-day hangover, wouldn't matter.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and fly back. Good celebration for Tampa Bay. Twice
- 8:08Speaker 1: they've won the American League pennant. They'll try to do
- 8:10Speaker 1: it against either the Guardians who stayed alive yesterday, landmine,
- 8:15Speaker 1: or the White Sox. Give me Forrester's microphone. Forrester, it's
- 8:19Speaker 1: the only game today because everybody else ended yesterday. Nerves
- 8:23Speaker 1: for your jovial Southsiders.
- 8:26Speaker 7: Feeling less jovial today.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I am Japanese.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Frankly. Yep.
- 8:30Speaker 1: I hope I am Japanese. I am Japanese.
- 8:33Speaker 7: Feels like they blew an opportunity.
- 8:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Well, you said this in our text thread. How many
- 8:39Speaker 1: outs are there in a baseball game?
- 8:40Speaker 2: There are 27.
- 8:42Speaker 1: If you strike out 19 times, is that bad? That's
- 8:46Speaker 1: a problem. That's kind of bad.
- 8:48Speaker 3: 19 to 27?
- 8:48Speaker 1: Like I could have gone up with an invisible bat,
- 8:52Speaker 1: not even a bat in my hand, and stood in
- 8:54Speaker 1: the batter's box and only struck out What is that,
- 8:57Speaker 1: eight more times than your team did yesterday? If I
- 9:00Speaker 1: just went up there without a bat.
- 9:02Speaker 7: And now combine that with your pitchers walking nine guys.
- 9:07Speaker 1: It's pretty bad, Scott. Not a good recipe. Not a
- 9:10Speaker 1: good recipe, no. 19 strikeouts. Yeah, it's crazy.
- 9:14Speaker 4: It's a lot.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Two triples for the Guardians first time in postseason. History
- 9:18Speaker 2: of that franchise is being able to do that. You
- 9:20Speaker 2: go back, first two games, how dominant the White Sox
- 9:22Speaker 2: were on the road. Guardians 11 hits, 9 runs yesterday
- 9:26Speaker 2: after only 7 hits and 3 runs in the first
- 9:28Speaker 2: two games. We got a series now.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Hey, if you guys, Scott, have you thought about this?
- 9:34Speaker 1: I was just thinking about this. If you make the
- 9:36Speaker 1: World Series, the White Sox.
- 9:37Speaker 7: I'm not talking about that.
- 9:39Speaker 1: No, but if you all make the World Series. Will
- 9:41Speaker 1: Tyler spend money and go?
- 9:42Speaker 6: No.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I was going to ask, do you think the Pope
- 9:45Speaker 1: will come? No way.
- 9:47Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 9:47Speaker 1: No way.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I think he would to a game at Chicago.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I think the Pope might come. I think it's possible.
- 9:53Speaker 7: You know, there were rumors that, you know, the White
- 9:57Speaker 7: Sox were really secretive about who was going to throw
- 9:59Speaker 7: out the first pitch yesterday. There was some speculation that
- 10:04Speaker 7: he might be in the mix there.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I think the Pope might actually come to a World
- 10:07Speaker 1: Series game.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Is he in good enough shape to throw out a
- 10:09Speaker 2: first pitch?
- 10:09Speaker 1: I don't think he's all that old. I think this
- 10:11Speaker 1: guy is, I'm going to guess, Let's see if we
- 10:14Speaker 1: can guess the Pope's age. What's his name? What's his Leo?
- 10:16Speaker 1: I'm going to say Leo. Okay. I'm going to say 56.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Okay.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Well, that's a young Pope.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Pope Leo is 71.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Okay.
- 10:23Speaker 1: There's no way. They're all old. I mean, that's not
- 10:28Speaker 1: a young man's gig. Yeah, they don't try to find
- 10:31Speaker 1: a guy that can serve for 100 years. I mean,
- 10:33Speaker 1: what are we doing with presidents and popes, man? Let's
- 10:36Speaker 1: work some younger people into the mix. No, he's young
- 10:39Speaker 1: for a pope.
- 10:40Speaker 7: Yeah, he's a good-looking pope.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, he seems like— I mean, you guys
- 10:44Speaker 1: with Bob Chesney and now the pope? I think Scott
- 10:47Speaker 1: meant good-looking health-wise, not attractiveness, right?
- 10:50Speaker 2: He's a young-looking 70-year-old.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what Scott's saying. Great way to put it, Tyler.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Great way to put it. And I agree. I think
- 10:57Speaker 1: he looks younger than 71.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Well, look, if he's not there, Trump will be there.
- 11:01Speaker 1: That's right. Didn't know there's a hurricane. Do you see
- 11:05Speaker 1: that press conference? I saw the text. He's got a
- 11:07Speaker 1: lot on his plate. He didn't really say that, though,
- 11:09Speaker 1: did he? I thought he did. I saw the video.
- 11:11Speaker 1: It's great. So a hurricane coming for Alabama? So he
- 11:15Speaker 1: knew Bama, Georgia was playing.
- 11:19Speaker 2: We didn't start with the weather, by the way. I
- 11:22Speaker 2: got it. Coming up.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Coming up here. We'll get to that. Traffic and weather
- 11:24Speaker 1: on the 8th, Lance, if you'll settle down. We've got
- 11:26Speaker 1: to talk about the storm in Atlanta first. The Atlanta Braves,
- 11:30Speaker 1: a lot of our audience, Braves fans, Dodgers finished them off.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Dynastic is the word used with the Dodgers. They're chasing
- 11:39Speaker 1: a 3P. Talk about a problem. Ronald Acuna has become
- 11:44Speaker 1: a problem. That's a problem. But the team, the team
- 11:47Speaker 1: as a whole, one of 23 runners in scoring position,
- 11:51Speaker 1: and they hit 145 as a team in this series.
- 11:54Speaker 1: So it's not all Ronald Acuna.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Okay, but Ronald Acuna was behind that. He weighted that
- 11:59Speaker 2: 145 down. He hit 125 this series.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Even worse.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Austin Riley hit.. 091 for the series. Matt Olsen beefed
- 12:08Speaker 2: it up a little bit. He hit. 148 for the series.
- 12:11Speaker 2: I mean, look, it's amazing the Dodgers can go on
- 12:14Speaker 2: the road and play a team like the Braves that
- 12:16Speaker 2: were so good in the regular season against the Dodgers.
- 12:18Speaker 2: The Dodgers won through five in the lineup, one of 19,
- 12:20Speaker 2: and they still score four runs and win that game.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I just don't understand this Ronald Acuna thing. Are you
- 12:29Speaker 1: ready for Brooks' stat? This is going to blow your mind.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Go ahead, Brooks.
- 12:36Speaker 8: Ronald Acuna has not had an RBI in his last
- 12:39Speaker 8: 68 postseason play to pick.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Man, 68 appearances without an RBI.
- 12:44Speaker 8: His last RBI was game six of the 2020 NLCS
- 12:48Speaker 8: versus the Dodgers.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And I assume he's your highest paid player. Oh, he's
- 12:52Speaker 1: got to be.
- 12:53Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 12:53Speaker 2: He might still be on that kind of hometown deal.
- 12:57Speaker 1: What a waste of money.
- 12:58Speaker 2: He got a massive deal, I think, two years ago.
- 13:01Speaker 1: He announced yesterday before the game it came out a
- 13:04Speaker 1: massive deal with one of our second half sponsors. That
- 13:10Speaker 1: was a massive deal. The timing of that was, I
- 13:16Speaker 1: know you get a massive deal, a promo deal, commercial deal.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Can you imagine if I would have gone before the series?
- 13:23Speaker 2: You know what? Ronald Acuna is not going to have
- 13:25Speaker 2: an extra base hit in the postseason. What kind of
- 13:27Speaker 2: odds can you get on that? Three for 24 this
- 13:30Speaker 2: postseason with zero extra base hits.
- 13:33Speaker 1: I said it.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Yesterday on the show that it had been 2020 the
- 13:35Speaker 2: last time he hit a postseason home run, which... Seemed crazy,
- 13:38Speaker 2: but a postseason RBI.
- 13:39Speaker 1: RBI, Lance. You can walk with the bases loaded and
- 13:41Speaker 1: get an RBI.
- 13:42Speaker 2: And he had so many opportunities in this series, too.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Key moments.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just astounding. And the fact that, I mean,
- 13:51Speaker 1: that he went to his skipper. In the last game,
- 13:54Speaker 1: it said he was too sore to play in the field.
- 13:56Speaker 1: That's enough for me if I'm a Braves fan. This
- 13:58Speaker 1: guy doesn't hit the plate, and in a postseason game?
- 14:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and I can't believe people were trying to annoy
- 14:02Speaker 2: him the best player in baseball a couple years ago.
- 14:03Speaker 1: A playoff game? You're too sore to play in the field?
- 14:06Speaker 1: What are we doing?
- 14:06Speaker 7: Hey, by the way, the Braves have five players making
- 14:10Speaker 7: more annually than Acuna.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Some of them might be earning it.
- 14:14Speaker 2: He's not.
- 14:15Speaker 7: Topped by Austin Riley, who was also not great.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Some of them might be earning it. He just got
- 14:19Speaker 1: that big pay raise and on the back end of
- 14:22Speaker 1: that had a horrible, I mean, it wasn't just his series.
- 14:24Speaker 1: He was horrible hitting all season long.
- 14:26Speaker 7: But Matt Olson, Hashong Kim, Spencer Strider, and Chris Sale
- 14:32Speaker 7: all make more annually.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:35Speaker 6: Wow.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Strider watches a lot of college football, right? He's never playing.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Never in October. In the fall, right? He's usually on
- 14:42Speaker 1: the IR.
- 14:43Speaker 2: How about Dubon, though? Actually, the left fielder probably should
- 14:48Speaker 2: have taken that call. But after making such an incredible
- 14:52Speaker 2: play on Freddie Freeman in the third, in game three,
- 14:56Speaker 2: what happened last night, that kind of set the table
- 14:59Speaker 2: for the Dodgers to tie it up. And that was,
- 15:01Speaker 2: you know, I was in Buffalo Wild Wings. When that happened,
- 15:04Speaker 2: the Braves fans were just like, oh, my. And you
- 15:06Speaker 2: could just, it was like deflating.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Boy, another Buffalo Wild Wings trip from you there.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Well, you know, it used to always be our friends
- 15:16Speaker 2: at Walk-Ons, but I got people that come to, we
- 15:19Speaker 2: have a meet every week.
- 15:21Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 15:21Speaker 2: And they don't want to come all the way down
- 15:22Speaker 2: to it. Okay, can I?
- 15:24Speaker 1: So it's a meeting place.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Halfway point with TV. Can I make an admission that's
- 15:27Speaker 1: probably going to make me the butt of the joke
- 15:29Speaker 1: again today? Tyler, can you Google, before I say what
- 15:32Speaker 1: I'm going to say, can you Google just a still
- 15:34Speaker 1: photo of the Buffalo Wild Wings commercial where the Big
- 15:36Speaker 1: Buffalo and the guy are sitting at the bars, their
- 15:38Speaker 1: most recent one, okay? Don't say anything. Don't say anything.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Don't say anything. Well, I think you just tipped it off.
- 15:44Speaker 1: All right, so years ago, we were still on radio
- 15:47Speaker 1: when Fansville started, and I thought the dad in Fansville
- 15:50Speaker 1: was Doug Flutie. And y'all were like, Doug Flutie?
- 15:54Speaker 2: Yeah, ended up being the drug dealer from 90210. Yeah,
- 15:57Speaker 2: and I thought it was Doug Flutie.
- 15:58Speaker 1: That one right there, top left.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it looks nothing like Doug Flutie.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Okay, is this Justin Herbert? Yes. Okay. Well, I thought
- 16:04Speaker 1: all along it was Justin Herbert. Wait, that's Justin Herbert?
- 16:07Speaker 2: That's Justin Herbert.
- 16:07Speaker 1: That is not.
- 16:08Speaker 5: No.
- 16:09Speaker 1: That is not Justin Herbert.
- 16:09Speaker 2: That's Justin Herbert.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Okay, at least I'm not alone in this. You think
- 16:12Speaker 1: that's Justin Herbert?
- 16:13Speaker 2: That is Justin Herbert.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure it is, Jim.
- 16:15Speaker 5: It is.
- 16:15Speaker 3: There it is.
- 16:16Speaker 1: See, it's Justin Herbert. Costumed Justin Herbert? Costumed Justin Herbert. No,
- 16:21Speaker 1: but he's in a costume. Scroll down. See, that's him.
- 16:23Speaker 2: That's Justin Herbert.
- 16:24Speaker 1: That's him in the Buffalo Wild Wings commercial. And I
- 16:26Speaker 1: watched it a number of times, and I'm like, is
- 16:28Speaker 1: that him? You guys never knew that?
- 16:30Speaker 4: No.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I thought it was him, Lance, but then I always
- 16:32Speaker 1: go back to the fans.
- 16:33Speaker 2: It's an awful commercial, by the way.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I don't love the commercial, but I just... Awful song.
- 16:37Speaker 1: For sure. Let me tell you, if my guys are
- 16:41Speaker 1: doing these commercials and they're sucking... I'd ask them to
- 16:44Speaker 1: go ahead and pull the commercials off the air. It
- 16:46Speaker 1: would drive me crazy if I'm a Chargers fan.
- 16:48Speaker 3: What are they, 0-4?
- 16:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and I'm watching that every commercial break. Every commercial break,
- 16:51Speaker 1: I'm getting that, and he's 0-4?
- 16:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:54Speaker 1: A little less mini corndog, more.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Touchdowns, please.
- 16:56Speaker 1: So I'm trying to talk myself out of that being
- 16:58Speaker 1: Justin Herbert back to the Fansville thing, but clearly I
- 17:00Speaker 1: was correct this one time. So baseball, one game tonight.
- 17:06Speaker 1: You can play at Cleveland, a hefty minus 120 favorite

- 18:21Speaker 1: our first break, it's time for, we're on the eights, right?
- 18:24Speaker 1: Weather on the eights, Brown. Oh, we're not going to
- 18:27Speaker 1: do traffic first? I go first? Yeah, traffic is okay
- 18:29Speaker 1: this morning. Traffic's good? Traffic all clear? All right, so
- 18:32Speaker 1: everything update-wise has been positive on this storm since basically
- 18:38Speaker 1: yesterday morning.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Isaias?
- 18:40Speaker 1: Is that how we're saying this? You know, I don't know, Jim.
- 18:42Speaker 1: This is a name I'm unfamiliar with. I think it's Isaias.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I think I'm getting that right. It's an interesting name.
- 18:47Speaker 1: I don't know how we come up with these names. Apparently,
- 18:49Speaker 1: some of these names get retired. If it's a really
- 18:51Speaker 1: big hurricane, they retire the name, I am told. I'm
- 18:56Speaker 1: just going to cut to the chase on this. It's
- 18:58Speaker 1: the football. Obviously, we are concerned about the people on
- 19:01Speaker 1: the Gulf Coast, and they've been given plenty of heads up,
- 19:03Speaker 1: so I hope people that have... Thank you, Stephen A.,
- 19:06Speaker 1: for correcting that really quick.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Well, you know, I talked to our friend real quick,
- 19:11Speaker 2: Mick Gillespie, this morning, who lives down in Baldwin County.
- 19:14Speaker 2: He's down on the coast.
- 19:15Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 19:15Speaker 2: He's talking about they might be relocating tomorrow to Tuscaloosa,
- 19:19Speaker 2: but he's not sure because they're only saying it's a
- 19:21Speaker 2: Cat 1 right now.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's growing stronger. Just a Cat 1. Yeah,
- 19:24Speaker 1: I wouldn't roll the dice. I'd go. Some are saying
- 19:27Speaker 1: it may be a Cat 2 when it hits. Key
- 19:29Speaker 1: word to that was right now. Yeah, right now. Those
- 19:32Speaker 1: things can't change.
- 19:32Speaker 4: All right.
- 19:33Speaker 1: So, obviously, our concerns with everyone on the coast, get
- 19:36Speaker 1: to safety as best you can and reach out to
- 19:40Speaker 1: the authorities if you need help. I'm saying all the
- 19:41Speaker 1: right things, I hope. I don't know how to deal
- 19:43Speaker 1: by the way i think it's 25 off with our
- 19:46Speaker 1: friends at the floor obama if you want to order
- 19:48Speaker 1: uh yeah drinks and hurricane and t-shirts and stuff from
- 19:51Speaker 1: them to get them shipped to you and yep sort
- 19:53Speaker 1: of have a hurricane party from from afar yeah praying
- 19:57Speaker 1: for those on the gulf coast that's right my daughter
- 19:59Speaker 1: is a student at the university of south alabama she
- 20:01Speaker 1: is on her way home so you know they're the
- 20:04Speaker 1: Students are going from there. It's actually fall break, so
- 20:06Speaker 1: it worked out well there. But for the football aspect, okay,
- 20:09Speaker 1: that's what we do here on this show. For the
- 20:10Speaker 1: football aspect, according to James Spann this morning, the weather
- 20:13Speaker 1: looks favorable for Saturday night's Alabama-Georgia game at Bryant-Denny Stadium
- 20:17Speaker 1: in Tuscaloosa. Lingering clouds, an outside risk of a passing
- 20:22Speaker 1: shower or two, and winds less than 15 miles per hour.
- 20:25Speaker 1: So I was worried about yesterday. I thought it was
- 20:27Speaker 1: going to be no rain, but winds 25 to 45.
- 20:31Speaker 8: No.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Everything has, from the moment we started the show yesterday,
- 20:34Speaker 1: every update has actually gotten progressively better for this game.
- 20:37Speaker 1: So if you don't complain about tailgating or anything like that,
- 20:40Speaker 1: if you just suck it up and say, okay, tailgating
- 20:42Speaker 1: is not going to happen this time. We're just going
- 20:44Speaker 1: to go to the game. get into you know a
- 20:47Speaker 1: great place like a galette's or an innisfree and hang
- 20:50Speaker 1: out walk over to the stadium then you'd be good
- 20:52Speaker 1: to go yeah i mean tailgating is probably not going
- 20:54Speaker 1: to be the best and The drive-down's going to be
- 20:57Speaker 1: a little dangerous. Yeah, I don't know. Have they announced
- 21:00Speaker 1: that the final decision is they're doing game day at
- 21:01Speaker 1: Coleman Coliseum? Has ESPN actually announced that? I think they did,
- 21:05Speaker 1: but it doesn't look like the rain's going to give
- 21:08Speaker 1: up there, so that's a good plan for them. They
- 21:10Speaker 1: always have an indoor backup plan. That's right. They've used
- 21:12Speaker 1: it once this year already without a crowd, but now
- 21:15Speaker 1: at this point, I guess they can have a crowd.
- 21:16Speaker 2: I was going to say it kind of kills the atmosphere.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Oh, it definitely kills the atmosphere. Well, the one time
- 21:20Speaker 1: they had to use it, I can't remember which game
- 21:22Speaker 1: they were at. It was LSU, Clemson to start with.
- 21:23Speaker 1: way they had to jump in momentarily because of lightning
- 21:26Speaker 1: yeah they had some music building or something they were
- 21:28Speaker 1: in and it was just the crew in there and
- 21:30Speaker 1: no fans i with enough advance i don't know if
- 21:33Speaker 1: they're going to open coleman call us in for fans
- 21:35Speaker 1: i mean they've done i hope basketball game day i
- 21:37Speaker 1: hope just do it for football game pat coleman yeah
- 21:39Speaker 1: so anyway that's the update it's a positive update uh
- 21:42Speaker 1: the updates have only gotten more positive as uh the
- 21:44Speaker 1: week is going on so that's good all right but
- 21:46Speaker 1: keep everybody on the gulf coast and then you know
- 21:49Speaker 1: we always make the the assumption, okay, there's landfall, and
- 21:52Speaker 1: then we forget that it's still a hurricane or a
- 21:55Speaker 1: tropical storm as it blows off the coast. So landfall
- 21:58Speaker 1: happens on Friday night, early into Saturday morning, but that's
- 22:01Speaker 1: still a pretty severe storm as it moves up its
- 22:05Speaker 1: path up Highway 43 in Alabama. So keep everybody safe
- 22:10Speaker 1: and think about everybody and be on standby to help
- 22:13Speaker 1: out if needed on the backside of that. All right,
- 22:15Speaker 1: when we come back, some more on the games going on,
- 22:18Speaker 1: both the NFL tonight. and what's happening in college football
- 22:22Speaker 1: this weekend on a major weekend. Right now, currently, we
- 22:26Speaker 1: have 15 unbeaten teams in college football, FBS. The most
- 22:33Speaker 1: we can come out of the weekend is 13 because
- 22:35Speaker 1: we have two unbeaten matchups this weekend. I'll ask the
- 22:38Speaker 1: question when we come back, how many unbeaten teams do
- 22:41Speaker 1: we still have when college football leaves week number six?
- 22:46Speaker 1: This is the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet
- 22:48Speaker 1: on Sporting Stage. One of the unbeaten teams this weekend,
- 22:55Speaker 1: one of the matchups that are between two unbeaten teams is,
- 22:58Speaker 1: of course, Georgia, number two in the country at number six, Alabama.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Cut 12, Tyler, if you can get me. Georgia defensive lineman,
- 23:05Speaker 1: Elijah Griffin. Boy, everyone's talking Alabama. coming off the start
- 23:11Speaker 1: of their season, very few people talking about No. 2 Georgia.
- 23:15Speaker 1: They've been laying in the weeds all year.
- 23:16Speaker 5: Are you Kirby?
- 23:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I'm just saying. They're pissed at 7-5.
- 23:20Speaker 2: It's pretty true, bro.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Is that not the truth?
- 23:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it is.
- 23:24Speaker 1: They've played one meaningful game, and they destroyed the team
- 23:27Speaker 1: they played. Yeah, but here's Elijah Griffin knowing that Georgia
- 23:32Speaker 1: goes in as an underdog to play Alabama this week.
- 23:36Speaker 3: You know, they're a great team, great physical team. And,
- 23:38Speaker 3: you know, we're a great team, a great physical team.
- 23:41Speaker 3: So it'll be a great challenge for us. But, you know, ultimately,
- 23:44Speaker 3: all the things that we do from yesterday's practice to
- 23:47Speaker 3: today's practice, all those things lead up to Saturday. So,
- 23:50Speaker 3: you know, if we execute well, you know, we'll get
- 23:52Speaker 3: the job done for sure.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you kind of said it right there.
- 23:54Speaker 1: You know, they're a great team. You're a great team.
- 23:56Speaker 1: As a team, how excited are y'all for the chance
- 23:59Speaker 1: to play a great team to prove that you're a
- 24:02Speaker 1: great team, if that makes sense? Yeah, no, definitely.
- 24:04Speaker 3: We're super excited because, you know, We don't back down
- 24:06Speaker 3: from any challenges. We run to the storm, and we
- 24:10Speaker 3: don't run away from it. We're definitely 100% ready, in
- 24:14Speaker 3: my opinion.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Interesting analogy. Running into the storm or to the storm.
- 24:20Speaker 1: True statement here, right? Winner and loser of this game,
- 24:25Speaker 1: still top four, top five teams in college football. You
- 24:29Speaker 1: can make that case, right?
- 24:30Speaker 2: Yeah, the winner, you can go on and book them
- 24:32Speaker 2: a ticket to Atlanta. I believe. And the playoffs.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 24:38Speaker 2: And the playoffs. You know, the loser of this game,
- 24:41Speaker 2: I still think, is going to be a two loss
- 24:43Speaker 2: team and it's going to get to the college football playoff.
- 24:45Speaker 2: You don't ideally want to lose this game, obviously, this early.
- 24:49Speaker 2: I say early. We're coming up on the middle of October.
- 24:52Speaker 2: But I do believe the winner of this game is in.
- 24:53Speaker 2: When you look at the remaining schedule, if Alabama is
- 24:55Speaker 2: to win this game. And they're impressive again when they
- 24:58Speaker 2: win this game. You look at the schedule, really the
- 25:00Speaker 2: only thing that sticks out is at LSU. I don't
- 25:03Speaker 2: know how you guys feel. I don't think Tennessee, the
- 25:05Speaker 2: way they're playing right now, if Alabama, you know, crosses,
- 25:09Speaker 2: you know, jumps another hurdle and continues to get better
- 25:11Speaker 2: and better, I don't see that Tennessee offense keeping up
- 25:14Speaker 2: with them. And then Texas A & M and Tuscaloosa,
- 25:16Speaker 2: come on.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I mean, I will point out Georgia lost this game
- 25:20Speaker 1: last year and got a bye. So, Different schedules. I
- 25:23Speaker 1: understand what you're saying, Lance.
- 25:24Speaker 2: And Georgia's got a different schedule than Alabama.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's not even, you know, I mean, a
- 25:29Speaker 1: loss in this game wouldn't even be, you know, a
- 25:32Speaker 1: bye penalty. You could still make it to Atlanta and
- 25:34Speaker 1: win the SEC championship and maybe not even have to
- 25:36Speaker 1: play an on-campus game. But both Alabama and Georgia had
- 25:39Speaker 1: favorable schedules going into the year, relatively speaking, in the SEC.
- 25:43Speaker 1: It's an SEC schedule. It's tough. But compared to Texas
- 25:47Speaker 1: and Oklahoma and some others... The Alabama-Georgia schedule, if I
- 25:51Speaker 1: had to choose any SEC schedule, those were the two
- 25:53Speaker 1: I would take as the contenders.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't disagree. I mean, Alabama's looked a little
- 25:57Speaker 2: more challenging before the year with that four-game gauntlet, and
- 26:01Speaker 2: that got mixed up a little bit, and Mississippi State
- 26:02Speaker 2: ended up being a little more challenging. But Georgia, speaking
- 26:06Speaker 2: of challenging, they haven't been challenged. 19 snaps in the
- 26:10Speaker 2: second half. It's been a total of 19 snaps where
- 26:16Speaker 2: they didn't lead by 14 points or more.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Sure.
- 26:19Speaker 1: And that can sometimes hurt you.
- 26:20Speaker 2: It can, yeah, especially on the road.
- 26:24Speaker 1: It's the first shakedown cruise. Alabama's been behind, and it's
- 26:28Speaker 1: had to battle back a couple of times. Been behind
- 26:30Speaker 1: on the road. They've seen where the holes are in
- 26:33Speaker 1: the boat, and they've plugged them up a little bit. Georgia,
- 26:35Speaker 1: they don't know if they've got any holes in their
- 26:37Speaker 1: boat yet. Yeah, no, you're absolutely right. It's a team
- 26:40Speaker 1: that has not been asked to play four full quarters. Now,
- 26:42Speaker 1: as Joel Klatt pointed out, you know, With Gunnar Stockton,
- 26:45Speaker 1: that's kind of his superpowers, how good he is in
- 26:47Speaker 1: the fourth quarter. He hasn't had to play a fourth
- 26:49Speaker 1: quarter yet. So, you know, I do find that really
- 26:52Speaker 1: interesting that Alabama has had to play a full 60. Yes,
- 26:56Speaker 1: kind of a couple times this year. I mean, Florida
- 26:58Speaker 1: State felt like a full 60 for Alabama. They had
- 27:00Speaker 1: to play to win that game. Had to come back. Kentucky,
- 27:03Speaker 1: I don't know. They won that game in the third quarter.
- 27:06Speaker 1: But had to come back. State was never a game.
- 27:09Speaker 6: So.
- 27:09Speaker 1: I mean, I shouldn't say State was never a game.
- 27:11Speaker 1: It was over in the second half, though. A couple
- 27:14Speaker 1: of pressure points. Yeah, I mean, it was 14-7 at
- 27:16Speaker 1: one point. You had to do something there. But even
- 27:18Speaker 1: Georgia hasn't really faced that.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd love truth serum with Kirby Smart just to
- 27:22Speaker 2: see how he is mentally for these Alabama games. I
- 27:24Speaker 2: know kind of exercised the demons last year in the
- 27:30Speaker 2: SEC championship game. But this has just not been a
- 27:33Speaker 2: matchup that has gone well for him.
- 27:36Speaker 1: It has not. 2-8 all-time against Alabama. More on that
- 27:40Speaker 1: game as we move throughout our four hours today. More
- 27:43Speaker 1: on the unbeaten matchups. The other one, which is Indiana-Nebraska
- 27:47Speaker 1: and the other unbeaten teams in action this weekend. I've
- 27:49Speaker 1: got a handful of unbeatens going down this weekend. We'll
- 27:52Speaker 1: see what Lance and Brownie thinks after Lance tells us
- 27:55Speaker 1: about the great folks at Clay Travis Law. Tell us
- 27:58Speaker 1: about Clay Travis Law.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Yeah, accidents do not wait for a good time. A wreck,
- 28:03Speaker 2: a fall, a doctor who wasn't paying attention, suddenly you're
- 28:06Speaker 2: fighting an insurance company that does this every single day.
- 28:09Speaker 2: That's why Clay started Clay Travis Law. I built a
- 28:12Speaker 2: firm around one idea. People deserve someone willing to pay attention,
- 28:15Speaker 2: ask the hard questions, and push back when things don't

- 28:43Speaker 1: Okay, 15 unbeatens. I'll throw him out. LanceIsLocked.com for his
- 28:48Speaker 1: official plays. He's going to give us some leans and
- 28:50Speaker 1: thoughts and some of that. But these are his official
- 28:53Speaker 1: plays against the line at LanceIsLocked.com. First of all, Notre Dame,
- 28:59Speaker 1: an independent. is still unbeaten, hosting Stanford this weekend. No
- 29:03Speaker 1: pucker factor at all? Zero. Stanford's terrible.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Notre Dame's won 15 straight by double digits. I mean,
- 29:09Speaker 2: they have been completely dominant again. They missed the college
- 29:12Speaker 2: football playoff last year. Stanford is not good. I mean,
- 29:15Speaker 2: they're coming off their worst loss of the year where
- 29:17Speaker 2: they lost by 54 to Wake.
- 29:19Speaker 1: From the group of six, in fact, the other two
- 29:25Speaker 1: unbeatens in the group of six, Both pucker factor games
- 29:27Speaker 1: for me this weekend. North Dakota State at UNLV. My
- 29:31Speaker 1: gut is UNLV has found something. They win this football game.
- 29:34Speaker 1: You got a feel, a lean, a thought?
- 29:36Speaker 2: Yeah, UNLV got propped up a little bit last week
- 29:39Speaker 2: in the one possession. win over Cal when Cal committed
- 29:41Speaker 2: 16 penalties for 147 yards. I do have a lean
- 29:45Speaker 2: with UNLV right now. I like this North Dakota State team.
- 29:48Speaker 2: You guys, I backed them last week again. I've kind
- 29:52Speaker 2: of been riding them a little bit all year, and
- 29:53Speaker 2: I think they're a really good team. But this is
- 29:55Speaker 2: by far their biggest challenge. And you wonder if that
- 29:57Speaker 2: pressure gets to them.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Yeah, they've got a pretty good one-two run attack with
- 30:00Speaker 1: Jackson Arnold in their tailback there. So UNLV, it's a
- 30:04Speaker 1: Dan Mullen-looking team right now. Yeah, and they've settled into
- 30:07Speaker 1: their roles, to your point. They didn't really have that
- 30:09Speaker 1: when they lost their two games in the openers in
- 30:12Speaker 1: their big battle group of six matchups earlier, including the
- 30:16Speaker 1: loss to Memphis. They seem to have found their personality.
- 30:19Speaker 1: And I, too, think James Madison's in trouble at Georgia Southern.
- 30:23Speaker 2: If they're going to be in trouble, this is the weekend,
- 30:25Speaker 2: much like North Dakota State. I mean, because when you
- 30:27Speaker 2: look at what is remaining on JMU's schedule, it ain't
- 30:30Speaker 2: a lot. So if somebody's going to get them, it's
- 30:32Speaker 2: going to be this week with Georgia Southern. I thought
- 30:34Speaker 2: about drawing that eagle. It's a really bad logo, and
- 30:37Speaker 2: it's difficult to draw.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Hard to draw.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Yeah, but I do kind of like them this week.
- 30:41Speaker 2: But I think James Madison's really, really good.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Well, when you think health and family, you often think quarterback, right?
- 30:46Speaker 1: That's right. And for those that have forgotten, and it
- 30:49Speaker 1: is very easy to forget, Georgia Southern's quarterback is... I
- 30:52Speaker 1: knew this back in August. Max Johnson. He has been
- 30:55Speaker 1: playing college football since the late 80s, and he is
- 30:58Speaker 1: currently in Statesboro, Georgia. So there you go. He's got
- 31:02Speaker 1: a lot of experience. Max Johnson is still playing football.
- 31:05Speaker 1: It's hard to believe. And Billy Napier is on that
- 31:06Speaker 1: other side.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Try to name the schools. It was A & M
- 31:09Speaker 2: to LSU or LSU to A & M.
- 31:11Speaker 1: One of the two.
- 31:12Speaker 2: North Carolina.
- 31:13Speaker 1: LSU to A & M, I think.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it is LSU to A & M.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Yeah, the bad injury at North Carolina. North Carolina. And
- 31:20Speaker 1: then is now with Georgia Southern. He hasn't played at
- 31:22Speaker 1: that many schools. It just seems like he's been doing
- 31:24Speaker 1: it forever.
- 31:24Speaker 2: I think it's seven years.
- 31:25Speaker 1: I say we have– that's the world we're in.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Or 2020, I think.
- 31:28Speaker 1: He hasn't played for that many schools, and he's played
- 31:29Speaker 1: for four. And I say he hasn't played for that many.
- 31:32Speaker 8: Here's how long Max Johnson has been in college football.
- 31:34Speaker 8: He was the starting quarterback that won Ed Ogeron's last
- 31:37Speaker 8: game at LSU.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:40Speaker 1: 2020, right?
- 31:42Speaker 3: 2021.
- 31:42Speaker 1: But he played in 2020. Yeah. Everybody is pointing out
- 31:46Speaker 1: Max Johnson has been quarterbacking so long, he was already
- 31:49Speaker 1: a quarterback the last time Ronald Acuna had an RBI
- 31:51Speaker 1: in the postseason. Which is true, by the way.
- 31:57Speaker 2: But yes, both current undefeated group six teams are possibly
- 32:02Speaker 2: in trouble this weekend.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Three unbeatens in the Big 12. You have Texas Tech
- 32:08Speaker 1: on a bye, so they can't lose. BYU with Iowa State,
- 32:14Speaker 1: a little pucker factor there, I believe.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so, just because of the way Iowa
- 32:18Speaker 2: State is playing at this moment. I mean, they've got
- 32:21Speaker 2: a running back right now that is seventh in the FBS,
- 32:24Speaker 2: a former quarterback, Anthony Fiora. He's 594 yards. He's averaging
- 32:30Speaker 2: eight yards per carry right now. So Iowa State under
- 32:33Speaker 2: Jimmy Rogers has been kind of a pleasant surprise. They
- 32:36Speaker 2: haven't really missed a beat from Matt Campbell, which seems
- 32:39Speaker 2: kind of crazy. On the other side, unfortunately for BYU,
- 32:42Speaker 2: if you watched them last week against TCU, offensively challenged
- 32:46Speaker 2: because LJ Martin went out after three carries. He's out
- 32:49Speaker 2: again tomorrow night. Bear Brottmeyer has not been great. No, no, no.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Their defense is 100% carrying them. So this could be
- 32:56Speaker 2: a yuck game. I still think BYU will find a
- 32:58Speaker 2: way to win it. It's a flat spot because you
- 33:00Speaker 2: know what next weekend is.
- 33:02Speaker 1: And this is what worries me the most about BYU
- 33:03Speaker 1: in this game. What are they doing? They're looking ahead.
- 33:06Speaker 1: We've got Notre Dame coming in next week. It's easy
- 33:08Speaker 1: to overlook Iowa State.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Satake seems to always have his team focused, though. And,
- 33:13Speaker 2: you know, this might be a complete rock fight where
- 33:15Speaker 2: they win, you know, 13-10. I think they will find
- 33:18Speaker 2: a way to get out of this, but I do
- 33:20Speaker 2: think it's going to be close.
- 33:23Speaker 1: Then there's the ACC with three unbeaten teams. Miami has
- 33:27Speaker 1: a bye. I believe there's pucker factor in the Pitt-North
- 33:32Speaker 1: Carolina game. There should be. You've got a backup quarterback. Yep,
- 33:36Speaker 1: you've got a backup quarterback making his first start now.
- 33:41Speaker 1: North Carolina played Notre Dame pretty well. I mean, they
- 33:44Speaker 1: were not outmatched in that game. They hung with Notre Dame.
- 33:46Speaker 1: They had a kick return, and it was bad conditions,
- 33:49Speaker 1: and I know a lot of things happened. But North
- 33:52Speaker 1: Carolina's an improved team over the last year. I don't
- 33:54Speaker 1: think you can deny that. I know they've been through
- 33:56Speaker 1: a mess in the offseason, but they're an improved football team.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Yeah, Billy Edwards turning the football over a little too much,
- 34:01Speaker 2: but Holden Gerner getting his what, this is year five
- 34:05Speaker 2: for him getting that first start for Pitt. You know,
- 34:08Speaker 2: Heinzel going out, that's bad break for Pat Narduzzi. I agree.
- 34:12Speaker 2: I think this is going to be a difficult game
- 34:13Speaker 2: for Pittsburgh, but I think they won the game.
- 34:15Speaker 1: How come none of us drew a North Carolina logo?
- 34:18Speaker 1: Wasn't that at four, four and a half?
- 34:20Speaker 2: Well, it's an 11 o'clock game, so I stayed away
- 34:22Speaker 2: from it. Yeah, four and a half.
- 34:24Speaker 1: What an idiot I am. I should have drawn the
- 34:27Speaker 1: Very cute little foot.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Cute.
- 34:29Speaker 1: I think you've got, I was watching Jack State playing
- 34:31Speaker 1: that cute little stadium last night. Isn't that what you
- 34:33Speaker 1: call Kennesaw Stadium? That cute little stadium?
- 34:35Speaker 2: Nice winner for Kennesaw State. Thanks very much. You got
- 34:38Speaker 2: the outright win. I got the cover.
- 34:40Speaker 1: You got the cover.
- 34:41Speaker 2: I'll take it.
- 34:41Speaker 1: All I wanted was the outright win. Looked like it
- 34:43Speaker 1: was a gift. The Jack State should have covered that one.
- 34:45Speaker 1: That fumble, the fumble. The kid got blown up on
- 34:47Speaker 1: that fumble, but Jack State's driving to go up.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Well, what I was scared to death when he got
- 34:52Speaker 2: blown up, I was like, is that going to be targeting?
- 34:55Speaker 2: And they never really, the two angles, they didn't go.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Back to it.
- 34:58Speaker 2: I would have thought with a turnover for sure they
- 35:00Speaker 2: would have checked that out.
- 35:01Speaker 1: But if Jack State, they're driving to score right there.
- 35:03Speaker 1: If they score right there, I get the win and
- 35:05Speaker 1: you get the loss.
- 35:05Speaker 2: I get it. But, you know, Kennesaw was up nine
- 35:08Speaker 2: in the second half. I felt good the whole game.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Duke unbeaten, and nobody talks about them.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Nope.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Duke at Georgia Tech. Pucker factor? I know the back
- 35:16Speaker 1: room thinks so.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Well, you know, I was talking about I was impressed
- 35:20Speaker 2: with Duke in week two. You know, I've been backing
- 35:22Speaker 2: them a little bit when they went into Champaign and
- 35:24Speaker 2: beat Illinois. But Illinois is two and three. Illinois is
- 35:26Speaker 2: not good. Nate Shepard is really, really good. Georgia Tech
- 35:31Speaker 2: is absolutely awful. If you go back to after the
- 35:33Speaker 2: 8-0 start, do you know what their record is?
- 35:37Speaker 1: How many games have they played?
- 35:40Speaker 2: They have played nine games.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Nine games?
- 35:42Speaker 2: Since the 8-0 start.
- 35:43Speaker 1: I'm going to say they're 1-8.
- 35:45Speaker 6: 2-7. 2-7?
- 35:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Well, this will be an emotional game, Jim, for Georgia Tech.
- 35:49Speaker 1: They are wearing the Reckham Tech logo on their helmet.
- 35:53Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys know this.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Duke's not wearing that?
- 35:56Speaker 1: Flants.
- 35:57Speaker 2: God almighty.
- 35:59Speaker 1: They're wearing the Reckham Tech. Do you do a sports
- 36:02Speaker 1: show in Birmingham? The Reckham Tech logo. So it's a
- 36:06Speaker 1: very emotional game for Georgia Tech. When they play that
- 36:09Speaker 1: Reckham Tech game each year. That's right. Don't leave off
- 36:13Speaker 1: the M part of that, the E-M part. No, you
- 36:15Speaker 1: don't wreck Tech. You confuse people if you wreck Tech.
- 36:18Speaker 2: Dude, 4-0 against the number Georgia Tech. 0-4 against the number.
- 36:21Speaker 2: We talk about good coaches win, great coaches cover. Redneck Gangster,
- 36:25Speaker 2: not only are they struggling, they're not even covering. And
- 36:28Speaker 2: Alberto Mendoza, you know, big name coming over from Indiana
- 36:32Speaker 2: to Georgia Tech. He is looking for his first ever
- 36:34Speaker 2: win over a power four.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Indiana, Nebraska, two unbeaten teams we'll talk about later in
- 36:40Speaker 1: the show. But obviously one of them will win and
- 36:43Speaker 1: stay unbeaten. One of them will lose. And then there's UCLA.
- 36:46Speaker 4: UCLA.
- 36:47Speaker 1: At Oregon, Bob Chesney's team now is a top 25
- 36:51Speaker 1: team again, up to number 21. Here's Chesney on his
- 36:54Speaker 1: message to the team.
- 36:57Speaker 6: We had our team meeting Sunday, and that was a
- 37:00Speaker 6: big part of what we talked about. You know, we
- 37:01Speaker 6: put up there the number 21, right, where we were
- 37:04Speaker 6: ranked or whatever the number is. And to me, I said,
- 37:07Speaker 6: if you pay attention to this number, you know, it
- 37:09Speaker 6: will go away, right? If you pay attention to what
- 37:12Speaker 6: you did to get that number, right, and only focus
- 37:15Speaker 6: on that, improve that maybe the number even gets better
- 37:18Speaker 6: who knows as time goes on but that can't be
- 37:20Speaker 6: anything we talk about or worry about and that's why
- 37:22Speaker 6: I wanted to bring it up one time and that
- 37:23Speaker 6: was the end of it and then just Refocus ourselves
- 37:26Speaker 6: back on the process. We're really eight weeks into this
- 37:28Speaker 6: season four of camp and in four of the scene
- 37:30Speaker 6: We have eight left to go right? So it just
- 37:33Speaker 6: like you walked in on day one of football camp
- 37:35Speaker 6: You know and you were committed to the cause and
- 37:38Speaker 6: committed to what you were going to do right now
- 37:40Speaker 6: eight weeks later With eight weeks left, right, we have
- 37:43Speaker 6: to recommit to that same process and that same mentality
- 37:46Speaker 6: and the same way we went into the season is
- 37:48Speaker 6: the exact same way we should be entering into the
- 37:50Speaker 6: second half of the season.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Just for feet. So he, they're the underdog, so obviously
- 37:54Speaker 1: a pucker factor for UCLA to stay in.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Yeah, look, I mean, the reality of the situation is
- 37:59Speaker 2: I love how they're playing. They are 4-0 right now,
- 38:01Speaker 2: but they've played the 113th most difficult schedule in college football.
- 38:05Speaker 2: They haven't beaten anybody, and they haven't beaten Oregon in
- 38:08Speaker 2: a long time at all. It's an eight straight losses
- 38:10Speaker 2: in Eugene. I ran across this yesterday. The last time
- 38:14Speaker 2: UCLA beat Oregon in Eugene, Dan Lanning was a freshman
- 38:19Speaker 2: linebacker at William Jewell, and Bob Chesney was the special
- 38:24Speaker 2: teams coordinator at Kings College.
- 38:26Speaker 1: It's been a minute, you're telling me. So they felt
- 38:28Speaker 1: so bad in the aftermath of the 96 bombing, they
- 38:31Speaker 1: named a college after a guy? Yeah, I think that
- 38:33Speaker 1: was Richard Jewell. What would their mascot have been?
- 38:37Speaker 2: A bomb?
- 38:38Speaker 1: The Bombers.
- 38:39Speaker 2: The Mad Bombers.
- 38:39Speaker 1: The Mad Bombers.
- 38:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 38:41Speaker 1: And then the Georgia-Alabama, both unbeaten. One will stay unbeaten.
- 38:45Speaker 1: One will take a defeat. And then there's Texas in
- 38:48Speaker 1: the Red River against Oklahoma. Pucker factor for Texas. It's
- 38:52Speaker 1: got to be. I mean, with that offense being as
- 38:55Speaker 1: anemic as it can be and going against a quality defense...
- 38:58Speaker 1: I mean, I think if you're a Texas fan and
- 39:00Speaker 1: in a rivalry game that is often surprising and played emotionally,
- 39:04Speaker 1: I think you've got to be worried.
- 39:05Speaker 2: I mean, you guys know I'm a contrarian, but I
- 39:07Speaker 2: look at this and somehow Oklahoma will scratch and claw
- 39:11Speaker 2: and find a way.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Oh, they'll be in it.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Texas has more takeaways defensively, five, than touchdown drives they've
- 39:17Speaker 2: allowed in four. They've allowed four touchdown drives the entire season,
- 39:20Speaker 2: and now we're looking at this Oklahoma team. How is
- 39:23Speaker 2: Oklahoma going to manufacture drives?
- 39:25Speaker 1: No sense. How are they going to do it? Well,
- 39:26Speaker 1: I mean, it's going to require... short fields and probably
- 39:30Speaker 1: a defensive or special team score maybe both you know.
- 39:32Speaker 2: And it's going to require a really really low scoring
- 39:34Speaker 2: game we brought this number up yesterday since 2000 the
- 39:37Speaker 2: team that wins the rushing battle is 24 and 2
- 39:39Speaker 2: in that matchup.
- 39:41Speaker 1: So 15 is what would go into the weekend unbeaten
- 39:44Speaker 1: The least we can come out with if there's massive
- 39:47Speaker 1: upsets is four because of two buys and two head-to-head matchups.
- 39:52Speaker 1: The most we can come out with is 13. How
- 39:54Speaker 1: many unbeaten teams do we come out with? I'm going
- 39:57Speaker 1: to say the group six split.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I'm going to say one loses, either JMU or North
- 40:02Speaker 2: Dakota State. What is a mandatory that we've got?
- 40:05Speaker 1: That takes it down to 12.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Okay.
- 40:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:07Speaker 2: But then what do we got? Don't we have undefeated
- 40:10Speaker 2: on undefeated?
- 40:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that counts that. That counts that because we got 15.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:14Speaker 1: So 12 is where you're at right now.
- 40:17Speaker 2: I'll say we get down to 10.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I was going to say 10 as well. I
- 40:20Speaker 1: don't know where they're all going to come.
- 40:21Speaker 2: I'll say we get down to 10.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Massive chaos, down to eight for me.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Wow.
- 40:24Speaker 1: That'd be a fun Saturday.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll take it.
- 40:26Speaker 1: That's a fun Saturday. Because two going out, Georgia and Alabama, Indiana, Nebraska.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Then I think Texas goes down. I'm going to say
- 40:34Speaker 1: UCLA goes down. Pitt goes down, and then both G6s.
- 40:38Speaker 1: North Dakota State, James Madison goes down. Did you say BYU?
- 40:42Speaker 1: I did not say BYU. That's very much in play
- 40:44Speaker 1: right now.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I would think that on the surface, I feel
- 40:46Speaker 2: good about saying UCLA. I feel good about one of
- 40:49Speaker 2: the group six, not great. I don't feel great about Pitt.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:56Speaker 2: But if I play in that game right now, I'd
- 40:58Speaker 2: play Carolina plus points.
- 41:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 41:00Speaker 1: So you can play his games at lanceslike.com. We'll talk
- 41:04Speaker 1: to Clay Travis. When we come back on the other side,
- 41:06Speaker 1: tell me about Clay Travis Law one more time before
- 41:08Speaker 1: we take this break.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Yeah, look, accidents do not wait for a good time.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Our man Clay Travis started Clay Travis Law, built that
- 41:14Speaker 2: firm around one idea. People deserve someone willing to pay attention,
- 41:18Speaker 2: ask those hard questions and push back when things don't
- 41:20Speaker 2: add up. They lead negotiations with honesty, determination and southern grit,
- 41:24Speaker 2: car and truck wrecks, ride share accidents, medical malpractice. They're
- 41:28Speaker 2: going to promise you honesty. They don't sugarcoat your case.
- 41:33Speaker 2: You're going to hear what it's actually worth, not what
- 41:34Speaker 2: you want to hear. Case evaluation is free. Go to
- 41:37Speaker 2: claytravislaw.com or call 877-222-4444. That's claytravislaw.com. No case too big
- 41:44Speaker 2: or too small.
- 41:46Speaker 1: As we head to Clay Travis here, just an amazing story.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Watching Eli Drinkwitz earlier this week, Emotions, saying that one
- 41:56Speaker 1: of his players, DJ Jones, because of being caught by
- 42:01Speaker 1: the medical staff at Missouri, realized he had a very severe,
- 42:04Speaker 1: life-threatening heart issue. And then good news comes today that
- 42:09Speaker 1: they've had successful heart transplant surgery for DJ Jones. And
- 42:16Speaker 1: he's now recovering and everything is positive in that surgery today.
- 42:20Speaker 1: It's a remarkable story.
- 42:21Speaker 2: You wonder if he is not an athlete at Missouri
- 42:24Speaker 2: with the facilities and the resources they've got if this
- 42:27Speaker 2: has ever come.
- 42:27Speaker 1: We've seen this before, things like this. I would say
- 42:30Speaker 1: it would have ended very differently if he had not
- 42:33Speaker 1: been blessed enough to be a college athlete and had
- 42:35Speaker 1: the great medical staff there at Missouri that monitored and
- 42:38Speaker 1: then sent him to the Mayo Clinic and now the
- 42:40Speaker 1: heart transplant. So good for him. A lot of people
- 42:42Speaker 1: have been praying for DJ Jones. All right, let's talk
- 42:45Speaker 1: to Clay Travis, founder of Sporting State. You see him
- 42:47Speaker 1: on Fox and the Big Noon Kick as well. Welcome in, Clay.
- 42:49Speaker 1: How are you?
- 42:51Speaker 5: Well, how are y'all?
- 42:52Speaker 1: Doing awesome. Thank you very, very much. I want to
- 42:55Speaker 1: start with something you tweeted about. You were discussing the
- 42:58Speaker 1: schedule for next week where Alabama and Tennessee will play
- 43:01Speaker 1: a 2-30 game. There is no SEC primetime game on ABC. Instead,
- 43:06Speaker 1: they are showing Notre Dame and BYU. The SEC and ESPN,
- 43:11Speaker 1: Disney are business partners. And in your reporting with the
- 43:15Speaker 1: people you've talked to, including SEC coaches, this half of
- 43:18Speaker 1: the partnership seems upset with that decision.
- 43:22Speaker 5: Yes, that is accurate.
- 43:23Speaker 4: And by the way, it's not just Tennessee, Alabama playing
- 43:26Speaker 4: at 3.30 Eastern. You guys may have the roster of
- 43:29Speaker 4: games next week up. It's that there are.
- 43:32Speaker 5: Two 11 a.m. kickoff games.
- 43:36Speaker 4: You've got Florida at Texas at 11 a.m. Central in Austin.
- 43:41Speaker 4: And then you have, I believe, LSU is hosting Mississippi
- 43:45Speaker 4: State at 11 a.m.
- 43:46Speaker 5: Central.
- 43:47Speaker 4: So you have a head-to-head 11 a.m. local kickoff in
- 43:51Speaker 4: the SEC. And then you have three at 2.30 Central,
- 43:56Speaker 4: 3.30 Eastern. Alabama, Tennessee is one of those. You also have,
- 44:00Speaker 4: I believe it's Ole Miss-Missouri, if I'm not mistaken, and
- 44:05Speaker 4: Georgia against Auburn.
- 44:06Speaker 3: That is right.
- 44:07Speaker 5: Correct me if I'm.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Wrong on that. No, you're right on all those. The
- 44:10Speaker 1: Deep South's oldest rivalry, third Saturday in October, which are
- 44:12Speaker 1: two of your historic rivalries, and then also a very
- 44:15Speaker 1: good Ole Miss-Missouri game. It's a very good 2.30 Central
- 44:18Speaker 1: Time window.
- 44:20Speaker 4: There are five games kicking off at 2.30 Central, 3.30
- 44:24Speaker 4: Eastern or earlier, including the dreaded JP.
- 44:27Speaker 5: Game, Doubleheader, at 11 a.m. Central.
- 44:31Speaker 4: And then you have two, I think it's fair to say,
- 44:34Speaker 4: relatively weak, a.k.a.
- 44:36Speaker 5: Crappy, would be another way to put it, games in
- 44:40Speaker 5: the evening.
- 44:41Speaker 4: ESPN has stacked the deck so they are not competing
- 44:45Speaker 4: with the BYU Notre Dame game or arguably even worse,
- 44:50Speaker 4: the Miami.
- 44:51Speaker 5: Hosting FSU game, which is nowhere near as good of.
- 44:55Speaker 4: A game as the five SEC games that are slotted
- 44:58Speaker 4: earlier in the day. So there is a great deal
- 45:01Speaker 4: of anger inside of the SEC over the fact that
- 45:06Speaker 4: ESPN is rigging primetime scheduling to avoid competition. By the way,
- 45:11Speaker 4: they did it this past Saturday, too, when they put
- 45:15Speaker 4: Clemson hosting Miami in as a primetime game.
- 45:18Speaker 5: If you happen to look, I know I don't have
- 45:20Speaker 5: to tell Alabama fans.
- 45:22Speaker 4: You had Mississippi State hosting Alabama kicking off at 11 a.m.,
- 45:27Speaker 4: which was arguably the best game all day in college football.
- 45:32Speaker 4: I know Alabama won comfortably, but on paper... That looked
- 45:36Speaker 4: like it was going to be the best game of
- 45:38Speaker 4: the day. And so I just think there's tension building
- 45:42Speaker 4: here is the way that I would put it over
- 45:46Speaker 4: ESPN not allowing the best, most signature SEC games to
- 45:50Speaker 4: be put in a position where they would appeal to
- 45:54Speaker 4: the biggest possible audience.
- 45:55Speaker 1: Walk me through the way these contracts work, though, Clay, because.
- 45:59Speaker 1: Does the SEC go into this just expecting a little
- 46:03Speaker 1: good faith with your partner that they're going to spread
- 46:05Speaker 1: these games out a little bit and not put other
- 46:08Speaker 1: conferences in that primetime slot? Is this something in the
- 46:11Speaker 1: future that the SEC is going to want written into
- 46:13Speaker 1: the contract that? that maybe we need to spread some
- 46:15Speaker 1: of these games out. How do you deal with all this?
- 46:17Speaker 1: Is some of this part of the mandated windows that
- 46:21Speaker 1: we give out in the summer that had Alabama and
- 46:24Speaker 1: Mississippi State put into a morning window and no ability
- 46:27Speaker 1: to move and flex those around?
- 46:29Speaker 4: I think sometimes games end up, to be fair, sometimes
- 46:33Speaker 4: games that we don't anticipate being really good games end
- 46:36Speaker 4: up being good games.
- 46:37Speaker 5: Everybody out there can anticipate this. I'll give you an
- 46:41Speaker 5: example this weekend.
- 46:42Speaker 4: I don't think very many people thought LSU going to
- 46:45Speaker 4: Kentucky would be that intriguing of a game. It now
- 46:48Speaker 4: looks like a decent game. Kentucky's 3-1. They've won two
- 46:51Speaker 4: road games. They look like a much better team.
- 46:53Speaker 5: Than we anticipated. But on the window question that you asked, Dunaway,
- 46:57Speaker 5: I think it's a good one.
- 46:59Speaker 4: They said either Tennessee-Alabama will be in that 3.30 window,
- 47:03Speaker 4: or I think they said 8 p.m.
- 47:04Speaker 2: Eastern.
- 47:06Speaker 4: So the expectation from the SEC is, and I think
- 47:10Speaker 4: reasonably has been, that ESPN is going to put the
- 47:15Speaker 4: best games in the best window, right? So if, for instance,
- 47:19Speaker 4: Tennessee had lost two games or Alabama had lost two games,
- 47:23Speaker 4: pulling it back and saying, hey, we're going to kick
- 47:25Speaker 4: this game off at 3.30 Eastern, I think would have
- 47:28Speaker 4: been acceptable, right?
- 47:30Speaker 5: Because the game wasn't as good as people expected.
- 47:34Speaker 4: Presuming that Alabama were to beat Georgia, even if they don't,
- 47:36Speaker 4: presuming Tennessee beats Arkansas, even if they don't, game's still
- 47:40Speaker 4: going to be pretty good, right? And traditionally, the game
- 47:42Speaker 4: has been pretty good. So I know directly Tennessee was
- 47:46Speaker 4: furious that they did not put this game in primetime,
- 47:51Speaker 4: and the expectation was that the game would be put
- 47:54Speaker 4: in primetime.
- 47:55Speaker 5: And I think it's emblematic of a.
- 47:57Speaker 4: Larger issue, which is the SEC has become so popular,
- 48:02Speaker 4: particularly now because they've gone to nine games. I think
- 48:05Speaker 4: there was a handshake, hey, ESPN players, telling the SEC,
- 48:11Speaker 4: if you go to nine.
- 48:12Speaker 5: We're going to pay you.
- 48:14Speaker 4: And we know that your overall games are going to
- 48:16Speaker 4: be even more popular because you'll have more bigger games, right?
- 48:20Speaker 5: And we'll take care of you.
- 48:22Speaker 4: And that's going to lead to higher television ratings, which
- 48:24Speaker 4: is going to set you up for way more money
- 48:26Speaker 4: in the future. Well, if you're rigging it so that
- 48:30Speaker 4: the ACC is artificially benefiting or the Big 12 is
- 48:34Speaker 4: artificially benefiting when their games are not on the same magnitude,
- 48:39Speaker 4: the SEC I think has a reason to be upset
- 48:43Speaker 4: at the method by which their games are being distributed.
- 48:46Speaker 2: Okay, Clay, now on to the games. As a Tennessee fan,
- 48:49Speaker 2: Faison Brandon was obviously benched last week. George McIntyre comes in.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Now Tennessee goes to Fayetteville to take on an Arkansas
- 48:56Speaker 2: team that has lost 13 consecutive SEC games. We got
- 49:00Speaker 2: into this a little bit yesterday. As a Tennessee fan,
- 49:03Speaker 2: how would you like Heupel to handle this? Because even
- 49:06Speaker 2: if McIntyre goes out, against a terrible Arkansas team and
- 49:09Speaker 2: plays well, does that really tell you who your starting
- 49:12Speaker 2: quarterback is going to be moving forward, especially going against
- 49:14Speaker 2: a team like Alabama next week in Knoxville?
- 49:18Speaker 5: Yeah, I know.
- 49:19Speaker 6: So.
- 49:20Speaker 5: step back.
- 49:20Speaker 4: Tennessee managed to get the only judge in the entire
- 49:24Speaker 4: country that wasn't biased in their favor, who ruled Joey
- 49:28Speaker 4: Aguilar was not going to be eligible, which is the
- 49:31Speaker 4: exact opposite ruling that Diego Pavia got. If Tennessee had
- 49:35Speaker 4: Joey Aguilar, which I think was the hope, I think
- 49:38Speaker 4: they'd be undefeated. I think they would have beaten Texas.
- 49:40Speaker 4: The defense has been better than anticipated. Quarterback play has been,
- 49:45Speaker 4: with Faison Brandon, atrocious. I presume you guys watched a
- 49:49Speaker 4: lot of that game against Auburn. I mean, Tennessee was
- 49:52Speaker 4: almost able to... They had a 40-yard touchdown called back
- 49:55Speaker 4: for an unnecessary hold.
- 49:57Speaker 5: That was away from the play.
- 49:59Speaker 4: Deshaun Bishop almost had 300 yards rushing against Auburn. And
- 50:03Speaker 4: Tennessee couldn't even throw the football with Faison Brandon.
- 50:06Speaker 6: So.
- 50:08Speaker 4: Going with a true freshman, I think in many ways
- 50:10Speaker 4: he was overwhelmed by what he saw against Texas. A
- 50:14Speaker 4: little bit unhealthy. Came out against Auburn. Still looked like
- 50:17Speaker 4: he was seeing deer in the headlights. Ghost in the
- 50:21Speaker 4: Sam Darnold vernacular back in the day when he was
- 50:24Speaker 4: going up against Bill Belichick. And they had that clip
- 50:27Speaker 4: of him from an audio perspective. So, look, I think
- 50:31Speaker 4: Tennessee is going to be very vanilla. They have to
- 50:34Speaker 4: be given the young quarterback situation. They have a very
- 50:37Speaker 4: talented running back core. They have, I think, a really
- 50:40Speaker 4: talented wide receiving core that they haven't been able to
- 50:43Speaker 4: break out. But they're running basically an eighth-grade offense. And
- 50:48Speaker 4: I think that's a function of what's going to go
- 50:52Speaker 4: on there. Heupel benched Faison Brandon after he made his
- 50:55Speaker 4: first turnover. I think if you told Josh Heupel right now, hey,
- 50:59Speaker 4: your quarterbacks are not going to turn the ball over,
- 51:01Speaker 4: I feel like he believes the talent that he has
- 51:05Speaker 4: elsewhere is good enough to be a 9 or 10
- 51:07Speaker 4: win football team. And so presuming Tennessee gets past Arkansas,
- 51:13Speaker 4: I think you look at the schedule going forward, there
- 51:15Speaker 4: are three games really that would jump out, Alabama, LSU,
- 51:21Speaker 4: and I would say at Texas A & M. Now
- 51:24Speaker 4: you can argue Kentucky, South Carolina, somebody else could certainly
- 51:28Speaker 4: rise up and be a major challenge. But if you
- 51:31Speaker 4: could go one and two in those three, right, You
- 51:34Speaker 4: have a very good chance, I think, of finishing 10-2,
- 51:37Speaker 4: which I believe would get Tennessee into the playoff. And
- 51:40Speaker 4: it's a little bit of a sort of an echo
- 51:43Speaker 4: of the 2024 year when Nico was a first-year starting quarterback.
- 51:47Speaker 4: Defense was really, really good. Offense was the question mark
- 51:51Speaker 4: all season. We'll see how much better Tennessee can get
- 51:53Speaker 4: at the quarterback position. But again, I think if Tennessee
- 51:56Speaker 4: had Joey Anguilar, I would be very comfortable that they
- 51:59Speaker 4: would be a playoff team this year.
- 52:00Speaker 1: How strange does it feel for you, Clay, to watch
- 52:02Speaker 1: Alabama and Georgia play a regular season game and be
- 52:06Speaker 1: the two highest scoring offenses in college football? It feels
- 52:09Speaker 1: like we're in a weird world.
- 52:12Speaker 5: I took the over in this game.
- 52:14Speaker 4: I know we've got the hurricane watch, the questions to
- 52:17Speaker 4: see what exactly is going to happen. Keelan Russell, to me,
- 52:19Speaker 4: is the best quarterback in college football right now.
- 52:23Speaker 3: I mean.
- 52:24Speaker 4: That 39-yard pass he made against Mississippi State on third
- 52:27Speaker 4: and 19, I think it was. I don't think very
- 52:29Speaker 4: many guys in college football can make that throw on
- 52:32Speaker 4: a line laser. And then a couple plays later, he
- 52:35Speaker 4: had the, I think it was a 24-yard run for
- 52:38Speaker 4: a touchdown. He's performing at an incredibly high level. I'd
- 52:41Speaker 4: be a little bit concerned about the Alabama secondary. Can
- 52:45Speaker 4: they consistently keep getting turnovers? Sometimes those come in bunches.
- 52:48Speaker 4: But I like the over, and I took Alabama to
- 52:50Speaker 4: win this game against Georgia this weekend.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Any concerns for you yet about TV ratings in college football?
- 52:57Speaker 1: They look down to me, but Brown says they're about
- 53:00Speaker 1: the same. Are you worried about them at all?
- 53:02Speaker 5: No, I think what you're.
- 53:03Speaker 4: Going to see is what we have been seeing, a
- 53:06Speaker 4: flight to quality. The SEC and top-level Big Ten games
- 53:10Speaker 4: are going to produce huge audiences. I think it's going
- 53:13Speaker 4: to be harder and harder for the mid-tier and lower-tier
- 53:16Speaker 4: games to produce substantial audiences. I think we're going to
- 53:20Speaker 4: see that rush to quality going on.
- 53:23Speaker 1: By the way, as you head out, you mentioned the
- 53:25Speaker 1: weather in the Alabama game. Every forecast we get, it's
- 53:27Speaker 1: only getting better. So there does not appear to be
- 53:31Speaker 1: much of an impact, hopefully. By the way, I am.
- 53:35Speaker 5: Up guest hosting Fox News this weekend.
- 53:38Speaker 4: I had to turn down an offer from President Trump
- 53:42Speaker 4: to fly into Tuscaloosa on Air Force One to watch
- 53:46Speaker 4: the Alabama-Georgia game. So I just want everybody out there
- 53:50Speaker 4: to know how much I'm willing to sacrifice to be
- 53:53Speaker 4: the hardworking person that I am.
- 53:55Speaker 5: I didn't call in sick.
- 53:56Speaker 4: I didn't say, hey, the president wants me on Air
- 53:58Speaker 4: Force One. I'm going to be in a television studio
- 54:00Speaker 4: in New York City on Saturday. I'm going to be
- 54:02Speaker 4: watching this game from a sports bar instead of hanging
- 54:05Speaker 4: out with my boy, the president of the United States,
- 54:07Speaker 4: and flying in on his plane.
- 54:08Speaker 2: Can't you get him to pardon that and get Buck
- 54:11Speaker 2: or somebody to sit in for you?
- 54:13Speaker 1: Yeah, but you're not the only one giving for the
- 54:16Speaker 1: show because I had to be here this morning. I
- 54:18Speaker 1: passed sitting with Kamala Harris last night at the Atlanta
- 54:21Speaker 1: Dream Game. So we all make sacrifices.
- 54:25Speaker 5: That's very good.
- 54:27Speaker 4: You're a girl. I mean, look, I appreciate all the
- 54:29Speaker 4: white dudes for Harris.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Clay, thank you. Have a great weekend.
- 54:36Speaker 5: All right, I'll see you all. Thank you.
- 54:37Speaker 1: All right, Clay Travis with us, all the show. And
- 54:40Speaker 1: you can see he and Buck following us here on
- 54:43Speaker 1: Sporting State and the Daily Wire. Clay and Buck show
- 54:47Speaker 1: follows us right here. And then the Clay Travis show
- 54:49Speaker 1: after that. All right. Because I do too much show prep,
- 54:52Speaker 1: dream a winner last night. They're one win away now
- 54:54Speaker 1: from going on to the WNBA championship.
- 54:57Speaker 3: Really? Wow. Wow.
- 54:58Speaker 2: That's some show prep you wasted your time on.
- 55:00Speaker 1: I mean, Lance, no, this is not performative. It's not performative.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Any chance you can name any of the other teams
- 55:08Speaker 1: in the playoffs. We're in the semifinals. So there's four teams.
- 55:11Speaker 2: I mean, I would guess the Aces. I think Vegas
- 55:13Speaker 2: was good.
- 55:14Speaker 1: I would guess the Aces. The Aces are against the wall.
- 55:16Speaker 1: The Valkyries, Golden State's team, they're only two years old.
- 55:19Speaker 1: One went away from going to the championship. And the
- 55:22Speaker 1: Dreamer beating, hang on. It's not the Indiana team because
- 55:26Speaker 1: old girl was making picks last week. That would be
- 55:27Speaker 1: on TV somewhere. Yeah, I would have seen some discussion
- 55:30Speaker 1: about that. But Kaitlin Clark was making the picks at Iowa,
- 55:33Speaker 1: so her team had been bounced.
- 55:35Speaker 2: They've got to be rolling that Sidney Sweeney out on
- 55:38Speaker 2: the WNBA games because you know they're salivating when they
- 55:41Speaker 2: see Sidney Sweeney.
- 55:43Speaker 1: The New York team.
- 55:44Speaker 4: Yep.
- 55:44Speaker 1: Liberty.
- 55:45Speaker 2: Oh, is it?
- 55:45Speaker 5: I got it.
- 55:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 55:46Speaker 5: Liberty.
- 55:47Speaker 1: If I'm right about all of that.
- 55:49Speaker 2: Hey, again, women's basketball top heavy?
- 55:51Speaker 1: Shocking, right? I can't get a helmet sticker right, guys,

- 57:48Speaker 1: It was?
- 57:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:50Speaker 1: I guess so. It looked a little trashy for Clay's backyard.
- 57:55Speaker 1: Only had one paved court, not a bunch of them.
