Transcript
- 0:38None. Sorry, what's up everybody?
- 0:46It's Kefi. Kefi.
- 0:48It goes cult mad.com. How's it going back with another
- 0:51live stream already off the rails.
- 0:53Amtrak Q is here. What's up Q?
- 0:58GQ having a liquid death. Cheers.
- 1:04Shout out to stream yard. I feel like I'm having a little
- 1:07bit of a problem with stream yard right now.
- 1:09But they just launched vertical video for like Instagram and
- 1:15TikTok and stuff. Not TikTok officially but
- 1:17Instagram seems like my ram is not showing.
- 1:23Let's try it one more time. Where is the stream key?
- 1:31Remove and re add? OK, we'll try one more time.
- 1:45How's everybody doing tonight? I am doing just fine.
- 1:50Like I said, Soundgarden got in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
- 1:52this weekend, long overdue, and it had me thinking that I should
- 1:59come on here and forecast who else should be in.
- 2:04The list is long. On one hand, Nina's here.
- 2:07What's up, Nina? On one hand, fuck the Rock and
- 2:10Roll Hall of Fame. On the other hand, just fun to
- 2:12talk about and debate. So I like doing that.
- 2:17Let's see if I can get Instagram to unfuck itself, but if not,
- 2:23then looks like not. I'm not sure.
- 2:25All right, Oh well, I'll put this back up on the gram later,
- 2:32but any who, which also means like I can save recordings to
- 2:38vertical view and then upload them later.
- 2:40That's super cool. Thanks.
- 2:41Stream yard. The for the magic of stream yard
- 2:43making it happen for ghost cult. But anyway, yeah, sound garden
- 2:47in the rock hall. I know the Rock and roll Hall of
- 2:49Fame is a bone of contention for a lot of people.
- 2:51Skull bashers here. What's up?
- 2:54I'm really bummed that I can't go live on on the gram.
- 2:56It's like shitting the battle. But anyway, yeah, I thought I
- 3:01would come on and and put some thought onto this.
- 3:04I polled a few friends and I was like, you know what, let's let's
- 3:10do this thing. So I put together a little, as
- 3:14usual, a visual aid just aids the visual aids.
- 3:19And, you know, obviously it goes without saying there's a lot of
- 3:24bands that should be in. Does the Hall of Fame even
- 3:27matter? Is it antithetical to rock and
- 3:30metal and punk to even be in a Hall of Fame?
- 3:33I know a lot of people are mad about the other genres of bands
- 3:37that are in the Hall of Fame, but from the very beginning, the
- 3:39Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a private club and usually we're
- 3:42not invited. But you know, when they started
- 3:44to put in heavier bands and, you know, ACDC was out for a long
- 3:48time, they were eligible for many years, and they got in like
- 3:5120 years after they were able to get in.
- 3:54So, you know, I think it's inherently interesting to talk
- 4:01about. I think it's very good that
- 4:02Soundgarden got in. I'm proud to say I was an OG
- 4:05Soundgarden fan. Even, you know, even from, you
- 4:12know, my earliest days as a fan, I'm glad to say that I was on
- 4:16board very early. I think there's a lot of bands
- 4:19that deserve to be in that haven't been in.
- 4:23What's up, Tim? Nobody goes.
- 4:25Cultist passes through. So yeah, let's just chop it up
- 4:29and talk about it and see what we can do here.
- 4:36Anything. It's also not working today.
- 4:43Well, seeking a spark. Again, another another device
- 4:47letting me down. All right, here we go.
- 4:54Anywho, rock'n'roll. So, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
- 4:58Let's talk about it. First off, some of the minutiae.
- 5:03If you've been following us and you're already a subscriber,
- 5:05thanks for being here. If you're new to the channel,
- 5:07please like and subscribe every Monday for the month of
- 5:10November. We are continuing to partner up
- 5:12with the Mojave Experience Music Festival taking place in Joshua
- 5:15Tree in March of 202126, March 20th and 21st and we're doing a
- 5:22line up announcement every week where we add two more bands that
- 5:25line up till the full line up is revealed and we have some more
- 5:28integrations coming up with them soon.
- 5:30I'm super stoked on this. Stoner doom, Stoner rock,
- 5:33psychedelic rock. Also also, I do a weekly live
- 5:39stream every Thursday afternoon. Stay tuned for that.
- 5:41I'll be back on my horse this week doing that after missing a
- 5:44week. I rarely miss a week but I was
- 5:46been really sick for the last week until yesterday and
- 5:49everyday I'm getting a little bit better so should be
- 5:51hydrating. This is my first liquid death in
- 5:54like 2 weeks actually which is weird.
- 5:59Maybe a week and a half a week and a half a week, A week and
- 6:021/2. And we ran our interview
- 6:06yesterday. Our brand new interview with Max
- 6:08Cavallera. I have interviewed Max Cavallera
- 6:10for all his bands, the most of any artist in my career.
- 6:14Great new interview, great new soul Fly record.
- 6:16Shama out now on Nuclear Blast. We have another new interview
- 6:21running tomorrow with Evoking the great Black and avant-garde
- 6:25band, Black and Death metal. Phenomenal band.
- 6:28And yeah, that's what we do here.
- 6:30Just in case you're feeling tipsy, I will drop the tip menu
- 6:35in the comments. Best way to enjoy this show is
- 6:40usually Instagram, but today it's Facebook, Twitch and
- 6:43YouTube and maybe one of my grams Grammy and yeah, if you
- 6:52feel like dropping us a tip or supporting us with a super chat
- 6:55or a super like or whatever they're called on Facebook,
- 7:00YouTube and Facebook, feel free to do that all righty.
- 7:05And there's our Cash App if you like.
- 7:08Let's talk about it. Obviously, you know, I tried to,
- 7:12hey, crank it up, Kitty. I tried to break these down the
- 7:16kind of the most obvious, you know, whatever the most obvious
- 7:22ones were in terms of, you know, obviously predominantly metal,
- 7:26but a little bit of Hard Rock post grunge, all those little
- 7:32different subgenres. But realistically, as much as I
- 7:35love death metal, death metal is not going to get in the Rock and
- 7:38Roll Hall of Fame. Some of the metal bands are not
- 7:40going to get in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, to be honest,
- 7:43just because it's just not for the mainstream.
- 7:46It's not big enough for the mainstream consumption.
- 7:49So I tried to think about the criteria that the Rock Hall has.
- 7:52I didn't include any rappers, although there's a whole bunch
- 7:54of rappers I could see being in. Usually one or two rock bands
- 7:58get in every year, usually one older and one more modern.
- 8:03And there's a few bands that I think I might have, you know,
- 8:07there's a few more I'll kind of give an honorable mention shout
- 8:10out to, but I just didn't focus on I am this year.
- 8:13What up, what up? Good to see you would like to
- 8:15see some hardcore and punk bands get in.
- 8:17We'll talk about them. I didn't really include any
- 8:20bands from the last 10 or 15 years.
- 8:22So there's not going to be Ghost, there's not going to be
- 8:24Sleep Token, There's a spirit box fan, Spirit box fans.
- 8:28I think most popular metal core is not yet big enough to get in.
- 8:33Although I could see eventually some of the metal core,
- 8:36mainstream E metal core bands getting in and I was very
- 8:40selective about, you know, who I considered for a few avant-garde
- 8:45picks. So let's see what you guys
- 8:47think. Drop a comment who you think has
- 8:49been snubbed and who is not in the Hall of Fame that you feel
- 8:52like you're to be in that has not been in.
- 8:54Drop a comment and I will try to shout it out in the comments
- 8:59myself, at least on the accounts that I can check out.
- 9:04Let's see, see if it'll let me log into my other account.
- 9:11So at least I can watch on at Ghost called Kefi on Instagram
- 9:15and YouTube, by the way, that you can now follow at Ghost
- 9:17called Kefi 666. So you know, first and foremost,
- 9:23first and foremost, it's you know, it's got to be it's got to
- 9:28be Maiden, right? Like priest got in, Sabbath is
- 9:34in Maiden has to be in. I know it's sort of a very
- 9:38American rock and roll Hall of Fame.
- 9:41And there's, you know, only the classic rock British bands get
- 9:44in. We did see Bad Company get in
- 9:47personally. Hey, thank you.
- 9:48I am for the gift. I think, you know, personally,
- 9:52I'm I always thought Bad Company was like the hall of very good.
- 9:56And again, this is just for discussion for fundies.
- 9:58Like I don't I don't take it too seriously.
- 10:00You shouldn't take it too seriously.
- 10:03You know, my word is not law. I don't have a vote in the Rock
- 10:06and Roll Hall of Fame or the Grammys.
- 10:07I just love dunking on them and discussing them because people
- 10:11love talking about them. You know, people just love
- 10:14talking about them. So anyway, let's see one more
- 10:24second trying to get that that gram one more chance.
- 10:41I will not sing Biggie. One more chance.
- 10:43No crank it up. 23 is back. What's up, Sir?
- 10:49Boston, Kansas Styx Maiden priest is in already and the
- 10:53Cure I believe is in already also.
- 10:55But good call on all those. You know, Boston is, you know,
- 11:00seems like there is many radio hits as they have.
- 11:02They're very underrated and the same with Styx.
- 11:04I think Styx kind of went too far down the middle of the road
- 11:08for me, but I do appreciate the, you know, I appreciate the the
- 11:14drop in there. They, you know, they absolutely
- 11:17should have been in by now. And let's see if I can get
- 11:24Instagram to cooperate. See doesn't seem to want to help
- 11:33all right anyway, so Maiden is my first kind of obvious Maiden
- 11:37metal band and like I said, I broke it down by metal more like
- 11:41Hard Rock and mainstream grunt rock and then some punk bands.
- 11:45You tell me who your bands are which you agree with Eastman and
- 11:50just like with the sports Hall of Fame's again, it's my my
- 11:52opinion is very subjective as a you know, 53 year old white guy
- 11:55from New York City that lives in California and you know I have a
- 12:00minor in musicology and I played in bands for a long time.
- 12:03So I have very strong opinions about who should be and should
- 12:05not be in. I wouldn't have put bad company
- 12:09in, but I understand why I like boomers think bad company is
- 12:12like, you know, one of the most incredible bands.
- 12:14I never did so Maiden number one with a bullet.
- 12:18They have to get in. It's it's kind of ridiculous.
- 12:21I think even though Bruce and and Steve Harris have said they
- 12:25would not accept an invitation in, they should absolutely be
- 12:30in. They will take it if they get
- 12:32invited it, you know, if they get nominated, they're going to
- 12:35be grateful and probably tell the line like everyone does.
- 12:40Next up, Soundgarden is in. Why not Alice In Chains?
- 12:43Alice In Chains his first year of eligibility.
- 12:45You have to be a band for 25 years and have a, you know,
- 12:48output for 25 years. And I feel like Alice In Chains
- 12:54feel to be in next year, like they absolutely need to be in.
- 12:58And I think they've only become, you know, they, they got their
- 13:00career kind of abruptly interrupted because of drugs and
- 13:05other issues in the band, not just Lane Staley and Mike Starr.
- 13:08But everybody in the band was fucked up on something.
- 13:11And it's not fair to just say it's Lane's fault that the band,
- 13:15you know, their meteoric rise was halted.
- 13:18Would have been really interesting to see if they had
- 13:20come back in like 98 or 99 with like a another full length
- 13:23album, what that would have done after the Unplugged and
- 13:26everything. Too bad they couldn't.
- 13:28But yeah, Alice In Chains just boggles the mind.
- 13:32They're better than some other bands that I'm sure other people
- 13:34feel like should be it to me. And they're still out and
- 13:38they're still vital all these years later.
- 13:39And they did get a second act, which most people don't get a
- 13:42second act. Also also Dio, Ozzy getting in
- 13:47as a solo artist made me feel like Dio absolutely needs to be
- 13:51in. Obviously he did not get
- 13:52inducted with Black Sabbath, which kind of sucks and is
- 13:55stupid. Certainly they got an extension
- 13:58of their early career because of Dio into the 80s and 90s that
- 14:02kept them, as you know, huge and relevant as they had to be.
- 14:07So I feel like Dio, you know, maybe it's not a foregone
- 14:11conclusion, but if you add up his whole career, rainbow Black
- 14:15Sabbath, DO solo heaven and hell later, basically Black Sabbath
- 14:19again with DO, you really can't complain that, you know, you
- 14:25really can't argue that it's not worthy.
- 14:28You know, that somehow they don't rate because I think they
- 14:32do rate. I think they do, you know, So
- 14:38there's that DO for sure. Let me know in the comments if
- 14:43you agree or not. Also Pantera.
- 14:49I think the Pantera reunion, especially with the goodwill
- 14:54know where we're coming up on the 10th anniversary of
- 14:56Phillips. Very unfortunate, you know,
- 14:59racist, dumb shit, but he's kept it quiet for a decade.
- 15:03I think he's going to have a cheap place to have a huge year
- 15:05next year with Pantera and down with new releases and maybe some
- 15:10scowl touring in there to scour touring in there also.
- 15:16So, you know, maybe Pantera should be it.
- 15:18It certainly would be, you know, valuable to get the brothers the
- 15:21nod. They deserve it.
- 15:23They're not here anymore. You know, I think like, bands
- 15:25ought to get awarded in their lifetime while they're still
- 15:28here. You know, maybe Pantera is
- 15:32perhaps too controversial, but I, I can see it.
- 15:35You know, I don't see that many more.
- 15:37We're about to talk about a whole bunch of strictly metal
- 15:39bands. And I don't know that how many
- 15:41of them will get in in my lifetime.
- 15:43But in terms of worthiness for the Rock Hall, I think Pantera
- 15:48has album sales. They have popularity.
- 15:50They've gotten a new lease on life.
- 15:52I think they'll probably put out a live album, maybe of that
- 15:55little club show they did. I think that would be really
- 15:57fun. Maybe for a record store day in
- 15:592026. That would be something I would
- 16:01want to buy. And yeah, also also Linkin Park,
- 16:09I think especially, again, another band that's kind of very
- 16:12similar situation. Members passed away, Chester was
- 16:14gone. They're humongous.
- 16:17They just did a world tour of arenas, sold out pretty much
- 16:21every city in the world. And I do see a situation where
- 16:27they get in. There's a lot of probably a big
- 16:29sympathy vote. Not to mention that a lot of the
- 16:31bands that are now coming of age and getting in were peers of, of
- 16:36Linkin Park. And I think Linkin Park is kind
- 16:38of, you know, linked to Soundgarden because of Chester
- 16:43and Chris's relationship. And now that Soundgarden is in,
- 16:47I think you, I think you could see Linkin Park get in in the
- 16:50next few years. This would have been their first
- 16:52year of eligibility this year also.
- 16:54I think, you know, while we're mentioning Soundgarden one more
- 16:57time, I do think it's very possible and probable that Chris
- 17:01Cornell will get in as a solo artist at some point.
- 17:03Also, even though I think some of those solo albums are me, but
- 17:07if you count like, OK, Chris Cordell came from Soundgarden.
- 17:10He went to Audioslave and then he had kind of a big solo
- 17:12career, James Bond theme song, Grammy Awards.
- 17:16I think you know that that goes a long way with the mainstream
- 17:20voters of the Hall. Fucking Houston life.
- 17:25What's up Hue life? I believe so.
- 17:30Linkin Park definitely possible. Also also Faith No More.
- 17:34I think we got hit with the news recently as Roddy Bottom is
- 17:36doing his book tour for his new book The Royal We his memoir
- 17:41that Faith No More is probably unlikely to ever return.
- 17:43That's his opinion. He is one of the founding key
- 17:45members of the band. It just makes sense.
- 17:49Patton doesn't seem to want to have anything to do with them or
- 17:51even contact them or talk to them, which sucks.
- 17:54And he's been, you know, suddenly busy with Bungle and
- 17:57and The Avett Brothers now. So I think it's very possible
- 18:01that Faith the more is never coming back.
- 18:03I think they're hugely influential.
- 18:05I know that the Hall of Fame has like different categories of how
- 18:08they put people in. And I think like, fuck that.
- 18:11It should just be in. You're in or you're not just
- 18:13like the sports Hall of Fame, you're in or you're not in all
- 18:16of very good Hall of Fame. There's a big line.
- 18:19It's not a fine line. It's a huge line actually to me.
- 18:25So, yeah, that's just me. Scott, Jeffrey, what up?
- 18:28Theodore is here. Norm Wilson is here.
- 18:33So I think Faith No More absolutely needs to be in.
- 18:35They influenced tons of bands. They were vital.
- 18:37They came back. They had a second act and
- 18:39reunited. They did 10 years as a reunion
- 18:42act to keep the pandemic screwed them.
- 18:46Yeah. Yeah.
- 18:46He's just done his own trip. And you don't.
- 18:49You never know what behind the scenes things are going on with
- 18:51them. You know, you really have no way
- 18:54of knowing what the dynamics of the band were.
- 18:57Tool. Tool is not yet eligible for the
- 18:59Rock Hall. I think next year is their first
- 19:02year of eligibility. They are one of the most popular
- 19:04bands. They are more popular now than
- 19:05they have ever been. I keep thinking that they're
- 19:10going to wind it down and wrap it up and go back and work on a
- 19:13new album, but they continue to get some money thrown at them
- 19:16for the tours. So while that's possible,
- 19:19they're going to keep doing it as long as it's motivating and
- 19:22and interesting and fun to them. Next year is the 30th
- 19:27anniversary of Enema. I don't think they would do
- 19:30anything with that like sentimentally or like let's
- 19:35celebrate that album by playing most of it.
- 19:37I don't think that's a thing for Tool at all, especially because
- 19:40they're very high on new music they made with Fear Inoculum and
- 19:43things like that and Lateralus, which they consider like more
- 19:46like the truer form of the band now. 10,000 days, Lateralus and
- 19:50Fear Inoculum is like the band that Tool is today versus Enema
- 19:53and earlier like Undertow. But Fool is hugely popular.
- 19:58Absolutely. You know, very few bands, I say
- 20:01this all the time, very few bands fall into the category of,
- 20:05you know, artistically exceptional and popular.
- 20:09It's very rare. Zeppelin was 1, Pink Floyd was
- 20:13one. Tool is 1, Alice In Chains is 1.
- 20:17They already didn't quite get the popularity they could have.
- 20:20So I feel like Tool is a band of the modern bands that are
- 20:24metalish adjacent. They would get in.
- 20:27And also I think there's probably some progressive rock
- 20:29nerd people voting for the hall that love the prog rock bands.
- 20:32And even though a lot of prog rock bands aren't in, I can see
- 20:36Tool getting in. And I am biased.
- 20:39Tool is one of my favorite bands, but system of a down boy,
- 20:43System of a down is again similar to Tool, you know, comes
- 20:47from a little bit after the the Tool and Rage Against the
- 20:50Machine error rages in Tool. Maybe next system I think would
- 20:54be the first one of those bands along with Linkin Park to get
- 20:57into just enormous now. They're bigger now than they
- 20:59have ever been. I think this test run for
- 21:03stadiums in America is a preliminary thing that they did
- 21:07to see if they could book a whole stadium tour and they
- 21:10clearly can. They're headlining sick new
- 21:12world. They're tour headlining arenas
- 21:14in Europe pretty damn big. I think they would get in again
- 21:18and be questionable whether they would get in because maybe
- 21:21they're too weird or they're too extreme or they're, you know,
- 21:24what are they going to say when they get the microphone?
- 21:26You know, Surge is brilliant. Hey, Badgers here.
- 21:29What's up? Mark, how are you today?
- 21:31We're talking about bands, the next bunch of bands to get in
- 21:35the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame from metal, Hard Rock,
- 21:39alternative rock and Pump. If you've got some pics that
- 21:43should be in. We've already mentioned that
- 21:44Maiden, Alice In Chains, Faith No More all absolutely need to
- 21:49be in Tool would be in on their next chance of eligibility and
- 21:54system of a down in Linkin Park or probably right in the queue.
- 21:57As my British friends say, next they got next.
- 22:01Who do you got? Who do you got next?
- 22:05OK, now for some more heavier bands.
- 22:08Some comments in this live stream were filtered to protect
- 22:11the community's experience. Somebody is shitting the bed in
- 22:15the comments. Keep it clean folks and tell me
- 22:17what you think. Drop a comment with your bands.
- 22:20Who's your favorite band that's not in the Hall of Fame?
- 22:22Slayer. Hard to argue a more influential
- 22:26metal band beside Black Sabbath, Metallica then Slayer.
- 22:31Could Slayer get in singing about Nazis and serial killers?
- 22:35I don't know. Should they be in some Hall of
- 22:38Fame? They are in the metal Hall of
- 22:39Fame, which I don't know if you know that there is a metal Hall
- 22:42of Fame, but there is one. Slayer absolutely should be in
- 22:46some kind of rock and roll Hall of Fame.
- 22:47They they've had a tremendous second act.
- 22:51You know, it's unfortunate that Jeff died young.
- 22:54I don't think they care particularly about being in the
- 22:56Hall of Fame. They have always been an
- 22:58outsider band, even from one of the biggest bands.
- 23:00They are also arguably, oh Man of War dude.
- 23:04I am not a fan and know they shouldn't be in.
- 23:07I think Man of War is kind of crappy.
- 23:09Man of War is like the, you know, I don't have crew on this
- 23:14list and I'll talk about why in a minute.
- 23:16I don't think Man of War is good enough.
- 23:18And I love Ross the boss and I respect Man of War fans and I
- 23:21understand why people love those records.
- 23:24But I just feel like they are too corny to be taken seriously
- 23:29as a as a real interesting band. That's just me.
- 23:31I never liked them. I also didn't like Saxon.
- 23:34And then I kind of went back and did my homework and I was like,
- 23:36oh, Saxon is actually was always really good.
- 23:38Why did all my favorite bands make fun of them?
- 23:42But yeah, I don't know. So Slayer, not 100% sure that
- 23:48they are a lock, but they should be in some kind of theoretical
- 23:53Rock and roll Hall of Fame someday.
- 23:56Speaking of rockers, unapologetic rockers.
- 24:00This is one of my favorite photos I have ever taken.
- 24:02This is Lenny of Motörhead. I'm sorry for you all on TikTok
- 24:06and not appreciate this. Black Clay Demon is now watching
- 24:10and Arias is watching. What's up?
- 24:11So I think there's a lot of sentiment to put Motörhead in
- 24:15the Hall of Fame based on rap they did not have the album
- 24:18sales. They did not they everyone
- 24:20agrees that that Lemmy and Motörhead are hugely
- 24:23influential. And I think if you have people
- 24:25like Tom Morello and Dave Grohl in the Hall of Fame stumping for
- 24:31Lemmy every year to get nominated, I think if he they
- 24:34get nominated, they're going to get it.
- 24:37Although I was pretty sure that Oasis was a lock and I'll talk
- 24:39about them in a minute. Let them in I guess.
- 24:43Yeah, Motörhead find it should be in.
- 24:45They set the template for a lot of things.
- 24:46They were pre thrash before thrash there.
- 24:49I always say there's a handful of bands that punkers and metal
- 24:53heads agree on and Motörhead is one of those bands along with
- 24:56Ramones, Misfits and Suicidal. Those are that's the list.
- 25:00I know some people love Social Distortion.
- 25:02I think they also probably could get in, but I don't like them,
- 25:05so I didn't put them in later in the spoiler alert.
- 25:08I don't have Social D on this list, and I'll tell you now why
- 25:10I don't have Mötley Crüe. I think Mötley Crüe, first of
- 25:14all, like by design, Mötley Crüe does not want to be in the Hall
- 25:18of Fame. I'm sure they would like to be
- 25:20in the Hall of Fame. I think they are.
- 25:23You know, they have moments of brilliance, but the reality is
- 25:27the vast majority of Motley Crue's career at the kindest is
- 25:31uneven and mostly not good. They have three really excellent
- 25:36albums, and even those albums are like sevens and eights.
- 25:41And I love Shouted the Devil and I love Doctor Feel Good, but
- 25:43realistically, not a robots and monsters pass by.
- 25:47What's up y'all? And Wendy Liu.
- 25:50Hi. Wendy Liu.
- 25:52Yeah. I think Mötley Crüe is not a
- 25:53great band. Vince has always been a terrible
- 25:55singer, not just now, always been a bad singer.
- 25:58And I think the bullshit with them kind of overshadows any of
- 26:02the good. But that's me, you know?
- 26:05Would they get in? Would I be shocked?
- 26:06No. Should they be in their Hall of
- 26:09very good at best? They're not a Hall of Fame band.
- 26:11Again, Hall of GNR. I think GNR is in, right?
- 26:17I assume they were. I did do some research on this.
- 26:24Lickety clack. My least favorite thing to do.
- 26:28Yeah. Yeah.
- 26:30Two years ago. That's right.
- 26:34I think Guns and Roses, yeah, I had Dio at the very top
- 26:38actually, right after Maiden. I think Dio, black clad Demon
- 26:42GNR is in. I think DIO absolutely should be
- 26:46in, especially when you consider The sum of Everything and
- 26:49especially because Ozzy got in. Ozzy got in as a solo artist.
- 26:53So I mean, how can Dio not be in as a solo artist?
- 26:59Hugh says Vince is horrible. He is horrible.
- 27:02He was always horrible, he was always horrible and and you
- 27:06know, maybe with Man O War black clad demon Appetite for
- 27:11destruction is one of the greatest albums ever, man from
- 27:13the 80s. What are you talking about, pal?
- 27:16I mean, if you don't like them and you hate Axel and you just
- 27:18hate them, that's fair. But like to just say it's trash
- 27:22when it's like universally respected and loved, you know, I
- 27:26don't know. I also hate bands that people
- 27:28like. I hate Journey.
- 27:30I think Journey sucks. I never liked them.
- 27:32I understand why. They have great, great players.
- 27:34They have catchy songs, songs that have pervaded the fucking
- 27:38rock fucking, you know every fucking drunk white girl in a
- 27:41bar I've ever met met. The minute that piano intro
- 27:45comes in, you know they fucking go on and on.
- 27:49So like eggs be dropping. I don't like Journey.
- 27:53I understand why they're hugely popular.
- 27:55Not a band for me. Their their their retirement is
- 27:57a welcome thing for me. Yeah, Pre Steve Perry Journey,
- 28:01dude, Greg Raleigh is incredible.
- 28:03Steve is actually listen, Steve is an incredible singer.
- 28:05I don't like journey. I hate journey.
- 28:08Steve's got a great voice, incredible voice, but like I
- 28:12just fucked them fucked Jonathan Cain.
- 28:14I feel terrible for Arnelle Pineda.
- 28:16Imagine having to be in a band with that those two fucking
- 28:18guys. Neil.
- 28:19Neil is probably OK, but imagine the drama of the law suing each
- 28:24other and never fucking talking and coming on stage and coming
- 28:28on stage and you can't fucking give a pound and you can't
- 28:31fucking have a beer with the guy and it's just misery.
- 28:34Or Arnell, right? Arnell didn't ask for any of
- 28:36this. He just came out of obscurity.
- 28:38That takes these place, you know?
- 28:41Well, of course they were. Santana's Journey was Santana's
- 28:44backing band, as Mark points out.
- 28:46And oh, I know it's a joke, bro. Like I'm talking about it
- 28:51because it's a good for conversation.
- 28:53The Metal Hall of Fame is not bad, but I just feel like the
- 28:56Metal Hall of Fame is also kind of too narrow focused, so the
- 29:00modern bands are not going to get any DAP from them at all.
- 29:04But we'll see. Megadeth is another band of the
- 29:08metal, you know, along the metal spectrum.
- 29:11Harry had some bullshit to say about Van Halen.
- 29:13Yes he did. Hey VW blue Sky, welcome back.
- 29:16Thanks so much for being here. Figured Sticks would have made
- 29:19it in by now. Me too.
- 29:21And Kansas we talked about earlier, really is a fucking
- 29:25terrible oversight, especially like Floyd Genesis are all in
- 29:30and somehow like, you know, Rush is in, ELP is not in and Kansas
- 29:36and sticks are not in. Fucking weird.
- 29:37But you know Megadeth, you know, man, I'm I'm bummed about the
- 29:42end of Megadeth. I'm bummed about the end of Meg.
- 29:46Yes, very narrow black clad demon.
- 29:48And I'm talking about the Metal Hall of Fame and no diss to
- 29:50them. I appreciate that they're a
- 29:52thing and they've put in a bunch of people I love, a bunch of
- 29:54bands I love and respect and industry people and a lot of
- 29:57things that the Rock Hall will not do.
- 29:59But you know Megadeth, I know Dave.
- 30:03It would be like a validation of his whole life to get in the
- 30:05Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has Unfuck with a bull band.
- 30:10He's got a couple of bad albums like everybody else.
- 30:13Night, last Megadeth record, based on what I heard, the first
- 30:15song thought it was good. Dirk has come into the band and
- 30:18really transformed them into, you know, back to that 80s,
- 30:22early 90s Prague thrash talent that they've always kind of had.
- 30:27And you know, I just feel like maybe make it at the drawing
- 30:30line for a lot of people as the vocals patchy enough.
- 30:33But they have hits, they have Grammy wins.
- 30:35Dave has done soundtrack stuff. He's well liked at least.
- 30:38Like respected, not like, but respected.
- 30:41Don't know about Megadeth getting it.
- 30:42And along the same lines, as much as it pains me to say, I
- 30:45love fucking Anthrax. Anthrax is one of my favorite
- 30:48thrash bands ever. I'm from the Bronx, NY, as is,
- 30:50you know, two people in Anthrax, Charlie and and Frankie and
- 30:55Anthrax, I think could be considered an influence.
- 30:58They crossed over punk and hardcore.
- 31:00They were doing things nobody else was doing.
- 31:02They have the second. They had platinum singles in
- 31:07thrash, at least one, and then a second one that was kind of a
- 31:11novelty song, right? Like I'm the man I love, but
- 31:14it's a novelty song, right? But they in, you know, bring the
- 31:18noise. They had a.
- 31:20Platinum album. The only second band to have a
- 31:23platinum album in thrash after Metallica is Sound of White
- 31:26Noise, and it's a shame that current Anthrax doesn't really
- 31:30celebrate that stuff. I really would love to get down
- 31:32and see John Bush do some of that stuff on tour.
- 31:35Make it. Maybe he'll expand that tour
- 31:36next year. I love Anthrax and they
- 31:39absolutely are a huge influence and maybe even the most
- 31:42successful thrash metal band after Metallica in terms of
- 31:46record sales and, you know, clout.
- 31:49That's legit. But like, I just don't know if
- 31:51they can get it. But I would love to see it.
- 31:53It would make my whole life when I went to the Big Four at Yankee
- 31:57Stadium with my best friend Curtis in 2011.
- 32:00Next year's the 15th anniversary of that.
- 32:03You know, Anthrax got the key to the city from the Bronx and we
- 32:05happened to a handful of artists.
- 32:08DW Butte Loose guy says I made in some real good albums.
- 32:11Love to see you make it. Yeah, I had Maiden number one at
- 32:13the top of this list for metal. Maiden needs to be in.
- 32:16Priest is in. Maiden needs again.
- 32:18Hey, John, what's up? No worries, brother.
- 32:20You know, I've been doing these live streams kind of a little
- 32:22impromptu without much promotion.
- 32:24But thanks for being here and I owe.
- 32:27You a text. Message or something bro or DM
- 32:30because you asked me a question when I saw you in the shop last
- 32:34So yeah I'd love to see I'm talking about the Rock and Roll
- 32:36Hall of Fame style garden gets in who will be next from rock
- 32:39metal and punk if any. We know it's usually down to one
- 32:43of one every year of the modern last 2530 years of artists.
- 32:47So who should get in and I talked about maiden and I talked
- 32:51about house in chains and Faith No More and Theo, but if you
- 32:55anybody coming in, you know, may you know, we've had some really
- 32:58great stuff here about. Styx and Kansas and.
- 33:03Maiden all need to be in. But if you've got anybody, John
- 33:05Yep, Maiden, Alice In Chains. Bryan Adams is interesting.
- 33:08You know, like he does have a ton of fucking hits as a Hard
- 33:11Rock artist. I don't know if.
- 33:14He's just so. Mainstream that people don't
- 33:16think about him and Boston has come up on TikTok.
- 33:19Thank you John yes so John says maiden chains and Bryan Adams
- 33:23very interesting and I thought Brian Adams was great at the
- 33:26rock hall by the way he did a great job.
- 33:28He's got a great voice. He's really kind of like come
- 33:30into his elder statesman hero era, right?
- 33:34I think it's pretty great and Boston is very underrated.
- 33:36I don't know if they will ever get breakthrough to get in
- 33:40because they really didn't have a life much after the heyday.
- 33:45I so of some more modern bands. Billy Idol, you know, I love
- 33:49Billy Idol. I feel like Billy Idol is the
- 33:52hall of very good. He really, he's got a handful of
- 33:56banger hits. He's got quite a few good
- 33:59albums. I think he never really had that
- 34:02like level of excellence over a long period of time.
- 34:05And I think again, The thing is my criteria for the Music Hall
- 34:09of Fame's is the same as the criteria for the Sports Hall of
- 34:11Fame's. You're a lock.
- 34:12You're in, absolutely in or absolutely not in.
- 34:16There's not a like, well, let me make a case.
- 34:19Fuck Todd Rundgren, you know, I'm sorry.
- 34:22Bad Company does not deserve to be in.
- 34:24Sheryl Crow is not a Hall of Fame artist.
- 34:26She's a pop artist. She's a good writer of songs.
- 34:29She should not be in the Hall of Fame.
- 34:30Get fucked. Performers tend to make it the
- 34:34next year. That is true.
- 34:36That is true. And I do know that about Billy
- 34:38Idol and he is loved and he is getting up there in years.
- 34:41And I did say earlier in the broadcast here that I want to
- 34:44see artists get in while they're alive.
- 34:47Ozzy getting in while he was alive and they led the In
- 34:49Memoriam with the Ozzy recap of his life.
- 34:53That meant a lot to me. I know the Grammys get shit on
- 34:57from missing people and I didn't see if Ace was included in Kiss,
- 35:03but you're in or you're not. So who is this?
- 35:05One of the most punchable faces in all of music is M Shadows of
- 35:09Avenged Sevenfold. Now, I happen to be a fan, and I
- 35:12was a fan of their metal core stuff.
- 35:13And you will not see we're not at the 25 years was mentioned.
- 35:18Thank you, John. We're not quite at the 25 year
- 35:22mark for a lot of metal core bands and I don't know if they
- 35:25are mainstream enough to make it, but Avenged Sevenfold, also
- 35:29similar to Lincoln Park, similar to Pantera, similar to these
- 35:32bands is now headlining arenas worldwide.
- 35:36Could Avenged Sevenfold get in? They had a huge run in the MTV
- 35:41era. They were one of the first big
- 35:43bands on streaming. And they've made some mistakes.
- 35:48They took some very weird left turns.
- 35:49I love their last album Life is But a Dream.
- 35:51Very avant-garde and weird to a lot of people.
- 35:54Super talented. The screening stuff most people
- 35:57won't love. But their fan base is fucking
- 36:00die hard as they come to quote Jamie Josta of Hate Breed.
- 36:05So could Avenged Sevenfold get in eventually?
- 36:07Probably not now, they're going to come up in a few years.
- 36:11As I mentioned, Tool as a band is not quite eligible yet.
- 36:14Avenged Sevenfold is not quite eligible yet if Maiden can't get
- 36:17in. No way.
- 36:18Avenged Sevenfold, I agree. Avenged Sevenfold borrowing
- 36:20their whole guitar ethos from Iron Maiden, I agree.
- 36:24But I think Maiden will get in. And I said, I don't know, right
- 36:28before you joined, John. I think if Maiden gets
- 36:34nominated, they will humble up and say thank you and they'll
- 36:37get in. They're not going to be like,
- 36:39fuck you, I don't want to be in. That's just not.
- 36:41It's just not how it's done. I think the only artist that
- 36:43ever successfully turned down the Hall of Fame, I think was
- 36:47Garth Brooks. And what's her name?
- 36:54I can't remember right now. Gary Collingwood says Satan.
- 37:00I mean, Satan should be in the Hall of Fame for life for
- 37:02everything. Not Satan the band.
- 37:04Maybe Satan the band. I don't know.
- 37:06No, not Satan the band. All right, Other bands that.
- 37:10Have like the merits. To get in, but probably won't
- 37:13get in Melvin's. So, you know, it's pretty well
- 37:17agreed that like Nirvana copied Melvin's and whole basically
- 37:22beat for beat, note for note, song for song in some cases.
- 37:26Melvin's are incredible. They have a prolific, incredible
- 37:29career. They continue to put out
- 37:30multiple ally of three albums out this year.
- 37:33They continue to tour all over the world every year.
- 37:36Dale Crover had his whole neck and back rebuilt in the last
- 37:39year and they just don't stop. They just don't stop.
- 37:43Melvin's hugely influential. Would be nice to see them get
- 37:46in. I think they don't care at all
- 37:47about this. Buzz does not care.
- 37:49This is a great photo of Buzz. I'm trying to remember who shot
- 37:54this picture. Melvin should be in.
- 38:02But they probably won't be in. I think this is Kim Hanson for
- 38:05those cold shot this recently is the double Drummers or yeah,
- 38:10it's some Someone shot this for us recently.
- 38:13Sex Pistols in Dire Straits did not show up for their
- 38:16inductions. Well, I'm going to tell you what
- 38:17Sex Pistols do not like. If you want to credit the Sex
- 38:20Pistols for punk like you credit the Ramones, even though they're
- 38:25not quite purely punk. Sure.
- 38:29Pistols also were not a good band.
- 38:31They have one good album and that's their legacy.
- 38:34They should not really be a Hall of Fame band, they should have
- 38:36been an influence. I always feel like Dire Straits
- 38:39is one of the most overrated bad bands of all time.
- 38:42Not a good vocalist, great guitar player, greatest
- 38:46soundtracks. They have a couple of good
- 38:49albums. Replacements, yes.
- 38:51And you know what? I didn't have any photos or
- 38:53replacements. Let me talk about them when I
- 38:55get to the alternative rock in another minute because I have
- 38:58thoughts. So of the last 30 years.
- 39:02Now we're going to talk. We talked about some thrash
- 39:03bands. We talked about some sludge
- 39:05bands. Corn.
- 39:08If Faith No More gets in, I can see Corn getting in.
- 39:12Technically Corn and I think they have never been nominated
- 39:16and it would be really interesting to see and again, if
- 39:17Lincoln Park and System of a Down get in, can corn be far
- 39:20behind if not in front of one of them or beating them both to the
- 39:25punch in terms of being, you know, first out of the gate with
- 39:27that genre influence. Corn is also about as popular as
- 39:33they have ever been and I think it would be very interesting to
- 39:36see them get in. That's my two cents.
- 39:38My two cents is free. A lot of people watching On the
- 39:42Tick. Of the tock, I appreciate all
- 39:44the all. Also Deftones.
- 39:47Deftones. Biggest ever new album is one of
- 39:50my favorite albums of the year. Could be album of the year
- 39:53across the board, nominated for Grammys.
- 39:56Private Music's incredible. Chino wrote most of the riffs
- 39:58because Steph was dealing with his health issues.
- 40:02Deftones, influential, long running, no real bad albums, hit
- 40:07songs, Grammy Awards, all the things that tick the boxes for
- 40:11the BS Hall of Fame. I could definitely see Deftones
- 40:15getting in in the next few years.
- 40:16They are way eligible. They found it as a band in 89,
- 40:20so this is their 30th year with a recording out.
- 40:23This year was the date, you know, anniversary of Adrenaline
- 40:27and I can see them getting in the next few years.
- 40:31Slipknot arguably one of the biggest bands in the world and
- 40:35they have been a lot longer than these other bands.
- 40:37I think there's a kind of a thing going on in the concert
- 40:39industry where they're trying to test the waters and see if some
- 40:44of these mid level successful record sales and streaming bands
- 40:48can headline arenas. We know that Slipknot has their
- 40:51own festival, their own lifestyle website that's fucking
- 40:53bigger than Three Ghost Cults. Honestly, got to be honest,
- 40:58they're huge. Their fan base is huge.
- 41:00Whenever they drop new merch, people buy them up, they put on
- 41:03new bands that get successful. And Knock Loose is a very, you
- 41:06know, is part of their success is due to getting cosigned by
- 41:09Slipknot and not fests. Slipknot is one of the most
- 41:13consistent headline bands in the world, a headline arenas and
- 41:17huge festivals all over the world.
- 41:20So I feel like. Slipknot as heavy.
- 41:24And Extreme and sort of dark as they are, have enough
- 41:28commercial, catchy ability to make it into the Hall of Fame.
- 41:32Very possible, Especially, again, as some of these other
- 41:34bands get in. They're all going to vote for
- 41:36Korn and Deftones and Slipknot. Now there's some more extreme
- 41:41bands and I didn't really jump them all in here, but this kind
- 41:44of goes back into my kind of my back to the beginning recap.
- 41:50So Lamb of God, you know, probably not there yet, right?
- 41:54They are 2526 years as a band, 27 years as a band.
- 41:59Burn the Priest officially had their release, I think in 99 to
- 42:03999899. And then New American Gospel is
- 42:0725 years old this year. So Lamb of God, hugely popular,
- 42:11hugely influential, kind of brought back that Pantera
- 42:14groove. With Pantera coming back out and
- 42:17probably getting in at some point, I could see Lamb of God
- 42:22being a band like Gojira and Lamb of God.
- 42:24And I think here's Gojira. Great shot here from Bloodstock.
- 42:29Open air this summer by our own Bill Motley in the UK.
- 42:32Incredible Kojira, still much bigger in Europe than America,
- 42:36but big. And then, you know, Mastodon.
- 42:38With Brett Hines passing away this summer and a new, you know,
- 42:42probable new Mastodon record next year we know about, I think
- 42:46it'd be fun to see Mastodon get in again.
- 42:50Prog. Rock bands.
- 42:51Do seem to get overlooked and so some of the progs and that's why
- 42:54like I don't have Opeth on here as much as Opeth is one of my
- 42:57top 10 bands. I just think some of the bands
- 42:59that are too far-flung with an all, you know, like an all over
- 43:04history are probably not going to get in and.
- 43:07OK, so now on. To some more classic artists,
- 43:10classic rock and alternative rock and mainstream rock, the
- 43:14most glaring omission of the classic rock era of bands,
- 43:18pretty heavy metal has to be Thin Lizzy.
- 43:22That's to be Thin Lizzy. They are not in the Hall of
- 43:24Fame. I know they didn't have as long
- 43:26a career, but hella influential. I think it goes.
- 43:30You know, if Metallica is the most popular, you know, rock and
- 43:33a band that transcended metal into rock ever statistically,
- 43:38financially. And one of their biggest hit
- 43:40songs is a cover of Whiskey in the Jar.
- 43:45And they and they, you know, they have to let people know
- 43:47it's not their song. You know Philo, man, he needs.
- 43:52To be in, they need to be in the Hall of Fame, especially those
- 43:56that like 73 to 83. I know that they had their ups
- 44:01and downs. I know they didn't get the
- 44:02breakthrough in America and that's why.
- 44:04But like, I know they just did the deal with primary wave to
- 44:08take over their royalties and try to administer their music
- 44:11into more television films. I'm hoping it's not just
- 44:14jailbreak Whiskey in the jar and excuse me as I'm still getting
- 44:22over my cold. Mostly whiskey in the jar Boys
- 44:24are Back in town, Cowboy Song Emeralds, which has been covered
- 44:28by Mastodon by the way. Lizzie much bigger in Europe and
- 44:31the Hall is extremely US biased. I agree.
- 44:34I feel like the Bad Company not like induction this year is
- 44:37because it's been so US leaning and realistically, except for
- 44:42classic rock and R&B, the US doesn't have a lot of great rock
- 44:46bands. We had great rock architects and
- 44:49great historical rock artists. But we don't have Beatles deep.
- 44:56Purple Led Zeppelin, you know, we know.
- 44:59So Lizzie needs to be in. They absolutely need to be in.
- 45:04I'll wait for you to tell me. I'm wrong.
- 45:06So Genesis is in the Hall of Fame and I could not find
- 45:08another photo of Phil to use. I think Phil Collins, I know
- 45:12he's more pop and mainstream as a solo artist, but he really
- 45:15doesn't get enough credit as a solo artist somehow, even though
- 45:18he's one of the biggest selling record artists of all time by
- 45:21himself I feel. Like Phil Collins.
- 45:24Deserves to be in the Hall of Fame as a solo artist and I'd
- 45:27like to see him get it. I know he's in bad health.
- 45:30He stopped pouring. I'd love to see him get it in
- 45:33his lifetime, just like Ozzy. So I hope there will be like a
- 45:36sympathy thing. He shouldn't have to get a
- 45:39sympathy thing because he is incredible.
- 45:41Phil Collins, his whole career beside Genesis, aside from
- 45:45Genesis running the gamut of everything, you know, really
- 45:52needs to really needs to get rewarded.
- 45:55I think. I think it would be sweet.
- 45:57It'd be great. We'd love to see some All Star
- 46:00artist take a shot at Phil Collins songs.
- 46:02He has tons of fucking songs, tons of huge songs.
- 46:05And he did a lot of, again, I talked about this earlier before
- 46:08you joined John, that there's this kind of thing that I talk
- 46:11about always in music that I learned in music school, which
- 46:14is there's very few artists that get to be like extremely
- 46:17artistically high valued and superstar famous and popular.
- 46:24And Phil is one of them. Phil.
- 46:26I know Tarzan sucks and I know South Park made fun of him.
- 46:29Fuck that. Fuck them and fuck that.
- 46:31I know Tarzan sucks, but like, everything else he ever did is
- 46:35fucking hard to fuck with. That's all I'm going to say.
- 46:37He's great. And I mean hard to fuck with.
- 46:39Like yo, I can't fuck with this. I mean like unfuck with.
- 46:43Bjork, not an. Artist We talk about enough here
- 46:46at Ghost Cult, but you know, it's my show and I'll fucking do
- 46:49what I want on my show. Bjork is incredible.
- 46:52Figure Cubes are really an unknown band, but Bjork's
- 46:54career, Huge record sales. She did 1 tour in the last few
- 46:59years and she had lined arenas all over the world.
- 47:03She did the chase. Center here in San.
- 47:04Francisco for crying out loud. Like she's huge and incredible
- 47:08and it taking artistic risks and still catchy and popular.
- 47:14I love to see Bjork get it. John says.
- 47:16My kids favorite soundtrack growing up was Brother Bear.
- 47:19Nice. Listen to that more than any
- 47:21Genesis album. And I love, I fucking love
- 47:22Genesis, bro. I fucking love Genesis, you
- 47:24know, Hugh says. Yep, Phil Collins definitely.
- 47:27You were right long time ago. For real.
- 47:31Stone Tumble Pilots. Now we're going to get.
- 47:33Into some post grunge. OK so Soundgarden's in is in
- 47:37Nirvana's in Allison chains got to be next Stone tumble pilots.
- 47:41Also where the fuck you at? Why are you not out?
- 47:43They are well overdue 33 years, 3435 years as a band basically
- 47:50and out since 92 when Core came out.
- 47:54And you know, I know it's tough for them.
- 47:57And they also similar to Chains didn't get the long, the long
- 48:00runway that Pearl Jam and and Soundgarden and and Chains did.
- 48:05And maybe not Soundgarden and certainly not Nirvana obviously,
- 48:11but just like, odd to me that Stone Tumble Pilots has not even
- 48:16been nominated. What the fuck?
- 48:18Just not even nominated. And they also had Chester
- 48:21Bennington as a lead singer at 1.2 which is wild.
- 48:26STP has to be in and probably soon snapping.
- 48:30Pumpkins, now I'm. Not the biggest Pumpkins fan but
- 48:33I will say as I get older and I get softer in my old age, I feel
- 48:38like Pumpkins are getting a lot of love.
- 48:40They had a huge tour this year. The addition of Kiki Wongo to
- 48:44the band is amazing. It's a lead guitarist.
- 48:46I know James is kind of off the road raising his family and not
- 48:50really doing a perfect circle either.
- 48:51Honestly. This year's the 30th anniversary
- 48:55of Melancholy. Those first 3 or 4 Pumpkins
- 48:58records are coming up soon. John, I'm doing punk last.
- 49:03The first 3 or 4 Pumpkins records are fucking great.
- 49:06And then, you know, mixed bag. My girlfriend Melissa is not
- 49:11here. She loves to say that.
- 49:12Billy, you are not. You were got for like 5 minutes.
- 49:14You would not speak for the Goths.
- 49:16You are not representative of all goth people.
- 49:22So anyway, Pumpkins probably going to get in in the next.
- 49:26I could see Pumpkins leapfrogging Alice In Chains and
- 49:29STP to get in. I don't agree with that, but I
- 49:31can see it. They are popular, they're
- 49:35popular, they're loved. I think Billy has never been a
- 49:37very good singer. I think he's a great songwriter.
- 49:42I've been in rather enjoying his interview series.
- 49:46It's not like I was going to get to interview those people
- 49:47anyway, so I'm not jealous. Oh yeah, Melissa's here.
- 49:50Awesome. Your time is coming, my dear.
- 49:51Because there's some bands you recommend that are coming up.
- 49:54Whoever I could find photos for. I love my girlfriend, she's
- 49:58brilliant. Pumpkins probably going to get
- 50:00in. Billy, you are knocked off.
- 50:03But you will. Probably get in the Hall of
- 50:04Fame. And he will be, you know, he'll
- 50:07brag about it whole. I know this is controversial.
- 50:12Whole not only should have been in a long time ago, they should
- 50:16be in before every one of these bands that I've mentioned except
- 50:19Dio, Maiden, Alice In Chains and Faith No More.
- 50:22They need to be in literally copy and paste.
- 50:26Nirvana is whole you I'll, I'll do the analysis on this sooner
- 50:31or later and I will have my day. I will die on this hill.
- 50:35You may not like her as a person.
- 50:36Courtney Love is a genius songwriter and everything
- 50:40Nirvana learned they stole from Melvin's and Hull Courtney.
- 50:44Fucking rules. And I will not hear any slander
- 50:47of her on my channel. No, if you didn't like her.
- 50:52Personally, I can understand that she did not kill Kurt
- 50:54Cobain by the way Kurt killed. Himself, just like Epstein, all
- 50:58right, No, Epstein didn't kill himself anyway.
- 51:01Release the Epstein files Oasis. So I fucking don't like these
- 51:04guys, but you can't fucking deny the first few Oasis records are
- 51:09brilliant. This tour this year proves that
- 51:14even in two mostly unlikable, completely unlikable, feckless
- 51:19fucking ass wipes who are huge rock star buttholes can sell out
- 51:25a huge fucking thing. Well, you know what, John?
- 51:28I respect that. Hole is very good, but not a
- 51:30Hall of Fame. Well, I would say this.
- 51:31I would put a hole in before Sheryl Crow.
- 51:34I would have put a hole in before Todd Rundgren and I would
- 51:36have put a hole in before Bad Company.
- 51:38But I understand that. Oasis, definitely maybe I see
- 51:41what you did there, dude. I love you so much for that.
- 51:44Definitely maybe They're going to get in.
- 51:47They're going to get in. I thought they were snubbed this
- 51:49year, to be honest with you. I would have put them in instead
- 51:51of Bad Company. Oasis deserves it.
- 51:53Yeah, but they're fucking such pieces of shit.
- 51:56I just fuck, fuck me. They're so especially.
- 52:00The younger brother, older brother apparently not good
- 52:02either. I like him though I prefer him.
- 52:04I wish he sang all the songs. I like when he just sang all the
- 52:06songs. The best unplugged for like
- 52:08Oasis is unplugged is the most petty shit ever.
- 52:12Where the younger brother sat I got a sore throat.
- 52:14I Can't Sing tonight. And then he sat hackling the
- 52:16band the whole night with his wife, Wife at the time, Patsy
- 52:20Kensit. Anyhow, Cranberries.
- 52:28So here's another 90s alternative rock.
- 52:31Incredible loss, incredible talent.
- 52:34Dolores or Riordan, just rest in power.
- 52:37Please take care of your mental health and check yourselves.
- 52:41And please don't do drugs. And I'm deeply saddened that
- 52:45she's not around anymore. Cranberries are criminally
- 52:49underrated. They have so many, first of all
- 52:51commercially huge but also deep albums with great discographies.
- 52:58John says. Crazy that they sell out
- 53:00stadiums but no toward solo. He had like 5.
- 53:02Yeah, well, they built the hype on that tour.
- 53:04Then they were like, this is all we're going to do.
- 53:06Oh wait, we're going to announce 25 more shows.
- 53:08It's kind of shitty. I know that Rush fans are really
- 53:10mad about the Rush situation, and it's very similar.
- 53:14Cranberries. I think it's much more than
- 53:16Zombie and Linger. They should be in.
- 53:18They're much more than a headspan.
- 53:19Their unplug just came out. That is right.
- 53:21I should try to get that. Queens and Stone Age kind of
- 53:28critics, darlings. Thank you, Melissa.
- 53:31Kind of. Yeah.
- 53:32I bet Rush got you, man. I understand.
- 53:34I'm going to wait and see on Rush.
- 53:35We'll see where I'm at in May if I really want to go to LA and do
- 53:38that. But Queens and Stone Age, I feel
- 53:40like a lot of those Stoner rock bands are just not popular
- 53:43enough to get noticed. And Josh has, even though he's
- 53:46also not a great person, apparently.
- 53:48I know he's been through a lot with the cancer, but like I feel
- 53:52like Josh has enough of that cool cachet with the voting
- 53:57types that would put Queens of the Stone Age in.
- 54:00I think also Melissa and I were talking about this offline that
- 54:05you know, I was would like screaming trees and Mark Lanigan
- 54:08to have gotten mentioned by the Soundgarden guys because they
- 54:11are friends with them. Josh is.
- 54:15A genius. I agree.
- 54:16Just not a great husband or father apparently.
- 54:18I don't know. But I feel like if Queens gets
- 54:22in, that's like Mark getting in and that's how Mark can get in
- 54:25the Hall of Fame. So selfishly, I wouldn't be mad
- 54:28if Queens gets in. I think they're just on the
- 54:31borderline of they have the greatness, they have the
- 54:34records, they have the longevity.
- 54:36They could have been in already by this time.
- 54:38Late 90s right is the first Queens record.
- 54:44Hold on one second. Let's see.
- 54:55Yeah, Mark, man, Mark brought us together.
- 54:58Pixies. Here's another band from the,
- 55:00you know, 80s alternative rock. 90s definitely could have been
- 55:04eligible years ago, right? Like 10-15 years ago they were
- 55:07eligible. This is the most latest lineup
- 55:09of Pixies. But clearly I think Pixies is a
- 55:12band that kind of put the blueprint down for alternative
- 55:14rock, along with R.E.M., who I don't think are in and maybe
- 55:17they don't want to be in. I don't remember if they're in
- 55:19or not, but Pixies absolutely should be in first.
- 55:23Four to five Pixies records are just fucking classics and I
- 55:27always feel like Breeders and Kim and Kelly Deal and Frank
- 55:31Black and Black Francis and all these things are a little bit
- 55:34less than Pixies, even though I love some of those projects.
- 55:37And I'm very happy for Breeders and I was very happy to see
- 55:40Breeders again for the second time at Riot Fest in 2023.
- 55:43Don't know if you have no list and excess needs to be
- 55:45considered. Absolutely.
- 55:46I don't have them on the list, but I would like to see them.
- 55:49I know that they did some touring a couple of years ago
- 55:52with Terence Trent Darby as their singer and then they would
- 55:55do kind of like a mid set Terence Trent Darby solo stuff
- 56:00with in excess and an in excess and he was doing the big in
- 56:03excess hits. I wouldn't mind seeing that.
- 56:05Like I don't know why that didn't work out more to do like
- 56:08AUS tour. But again, they were never, you
- 56:10know, as huge as they were. They kind of had their moment
- 56:12and they faded. I believe Hutchins should be in.
- 56:16Melissa says Pixie should be in. R.E.M. is in first year
- 56:19eligible. Nice.
- 56:20Thank you for reminding me. In excess don't get enough to.
- 56:24Yeah, I love them. L7 this is.
- 56:28Maybe a controversial pick and we're starting to get into now.
- 56:31Maybe you know a little, you know, not enough female artist,
- 56:34not enough punk female artist representation.
- 56:37L7 killer band, great discography, had a second act.
- 56:42Better now than they ever were because they were fucked up on
- 56:45drugs and alcohol back in the day.
- 56:47Absolutely love this fucking band.
- 56:49I paid to go see them when I could have got in free because I
- 56:51wanted to buy a ticket to support them.
- 56:54I love them endlessly. And yeah, I really, I love L7.
- 57:01They need to be. And I know Omar Cordy took this
- 57:03photo at the Pomona No Values festival.
- 57:06Yeah, I have Bikini Kill also coming up soon, Melissa, in the
- 57:10punk section. And we'll talk about them at
- 57:12length. But yeah, L7 very underrated.
- 57:14Kind of needs to be. And I know people talk about,
- 57:18you know, there are other seven-year Bitch and the gets
- 57:20and some other right girl type bands, but I think only whole L7
- 57:24and Bikini Kill are the like the exceptional, exceptional Hall of
- 57:29Fame level bands. That's just me.
- 57:31There are many great bands. Babes in Toyland is also pretty
- 57:34great living. Color, you know, how can living
- 57:36Color continue to be so underrated?
- 57:38They were so fire out of the gate in their career.
- 57:42They are as good now as they have ever been, I'm sure people.
- 57:45So their Tiny Desk concert is one of the most watched Tiny
- 57:47Desk concerts of the year from NPR.
- 57:50So I really would love, I love Living color.
- 57:52I have loved them not only one of my first favorite bands with
- 57:55two of my childhood best friends, my late friend Damien
- 57:59Danville, and I love them as well as Curtis Dunlan from ghost
- 58:02Cult Living color, man. I mean, you know, loved by the
- 58:06critics, just maybe not like mainstream super huge, but like
- 58:11what's the wrestling theme that has cult of personality, right?
- 58:14Like there's a wrestler that uses cult of personality now.
- 58:16And I think what living color had to do was re recorded to get
- 58:20all the modern royalties in line.
- 58:23So they're just making every time that shit is used in a
- 58:26highlight reel in a social media on streaming, they are.
- 58:31That version is what's actually kicking money into their
- 58:34pockets. Living color is great.
- 58:36Court CM Punk. Thank you John.
- 58:37I'm really not the wrestling guy I was growing up.
- 58:41Agreed. Living color totally needs to be
- 58:43in, but maybe not breakthrough big enough.
- 58:47Kind of like Queens. All the other boxes are ticked
- 58:49except mainstream love, but I think Living Color is
- 58:53phenomenal. Sublime controversial.
- 58:57You know some people consider Sublime a very mid band band for
- 59:01average white guys that love weed and jerking off and playing
- 59:06Xbox. But I will tell you that Sublime
- 59:08has tons of bangers. Also didn't get the runway.
- 59:12Sublime With Rome is like it ever happened now with the kid
- 59:16in the band. I've seen him twice now with the
- 59:19junior Jacob Noel, and he is incredible.
- 59:23Look at him, he looks just like his dad.
- 59:25He plays fucking guitar. He actually does stuff that his
- 59:27dad could not and did not do, which is like he's a very active
- 59:31frontman running around. Sublime is headlining festivals,
- 59:36big pop and rock festivals, and I'd love to see them get in.
- 59:40They certainly have all the other, you know, Again, the
- 59:43boxes tick for them, at least in my book.
- 59:46And I saw them and I thought like, wow, this is like the
- 59:49sublime. I remember Zoe just found a
- 59:55shirt she hasn't seen in a while.
- 59:56What shirt is that? So who do tell?
- 59:58We're talking about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and future
- 1:00:01bands to get in. Mostly.
- 1:00:03We passed all the metal. We did the alternative rock and
- 1:00:05sort of post grunge. And now we're getting in the
- 1:00:07weeds a little bit on a few more bands.
- 1:00:10So Creed, this is going to be ultra controversial Creed.
- 1:00:15Is having a humongous moment the last couple of years since they
- 1:00:19reunited. I know they're cautious about
- 1:00:21making new music. But Creed could be.
- 1:00:25In the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I know just like
- 1:00:27Nickelback, it would grind people's fucking gears.
- 1:00:30They just want to hate on this band for the Christianity or
- 1:00:33whatever. Creed's first three albums are
- 1:00:35full of bangers. They are doing so well
- 1:00:40commercially now more than they ever did.
- 1:00:42I could absolutely see Creed getting it.
- 1:00:45I'm not a huge Creed fan but I will say that I am a huge fan of
- 1:00:47Marc Tramonti and I like Scott is a solo artist.
- 1:00:50So I think Creed could very well likely get in in the next few
- 1:00:55years. This is their 25th anniversary.
- 1:00:56They are eligible. I believe this year they were
- 1:00:58eligible. Weezer, if we're talking about.
- 1:01:02Green. Here's the other side of the
- 1:01:03coin. Weezer is either the one of the
- 1:01:05best bands ever or one of the worst bands ever, depending on
- 1:01:07who you ask. Also similar to Sublime, I think
- 1:01:13Weezer's got like a very uneven catalog, but their eyes are
- 1:01:17super fucking high. And all those like Pantone color
- 1:01:20albums, the blue, the red, the green.
- 1:01:22This is the teal press photo from their covers.
- 1:01:26They did like a season cycle thing in the last couple of
- 1:01:29years that I thought was super interesting, at least for a
- 1:01:31veteran band. They they close every show would
- 1:01:33run to the hills by Iron Maiden already talked about how Maiden
- 1:01:36should be in. I don't know.
- 1:01:38Weezer is a Hall of Fame level band, but like if you just take
- 1:01:42the best that you might get in. They have some clunkers and I
- 1:01:46like Pinkerton, which is the record that everybody's divided
- 1:01:49on in their early career. But like, there's a lot.
- 1:01:52Of and. Rivers Cuomo's lyrics are
- 1:01:54fucking dreadful, but so are the Chili Peppers, and they're in
- 1:01:57the Hall of Fame. So like, dreadful fucking
- 1:01:58lyrics. So is kisses.
- 1:02:00And I love kiss. This is pretty fucking
- 1:02:05interesting. So here we go.
- 1:02:06Now we're going to talk about Melissa.
- 1:02:07It's your time to shine. Here's new order shot by my
- 1:02:11partner Omar. Riot Fest a while back, so new.
- 1:02:15Order in Joy Division was on. The docket this year as a
- 1:02:17potential and they didn't get in.
- 1:02:19They absolutely should get in. I can see them getting in as a
- 1:02:24influence and. I feel like they should.
- 1:02:27Be in Because they've influenced so many bands across so many
- 1:02:30genres, so many people cite Joy Division and New Order as a
- 1:02:34band. They absolutely kind of need to
- 1:02:37get it. Will they get in is a question.
- 1:02:40Because I think the thing that people look at is record sales.
- 1:02:43Joy Division certainly didn't have a long enough career to
- 1:02:45have those record sales. But if you want to just consider
- 1:02:48New Order, the second version of Joy Division, which is it, which
- 1:02:52it is in a way, I think they belong in.
- 1:02:56I think they belong in on their merit.
- 1:02:59I think they belong in. But you know, it's hard to know.
- 1:03:02Other bands. So now we're talking.
- 1:03:04About kind of danceable avant-garde, post punk, new wave
- 1:03:10and industrial music metal bands, right?
- 1:03:13So here we go. This is an interesting little
- 1:03:15subset. Killing Joke.
- 1:03:17This is a photo I shot. I'm very proud of this photo.
- 1:03:19I shot this at Irving Plaza in 2018.
- 1:03:23I want Killing Joke to get in the Hall of Fame just so Jazz
- 1:03:26Coleman can just go fucking ham on the acceptance speech and
- 1:03:30just go stream of consciousness batshit insane Flat Earth
- 1:03:34bilderbergs, fucking lizard people.
- 1:03:37Like, you know, aliens. He's going to just go fucking
- 1:03:40nuts in front of a microphone. Joy Division, Killing Joke, just
- 1:03:45like Joy Division, super influential, ahead of their
- 1:03:48time. Come as you are absolutely
- 1:03:51ripped off 80s. But OK, fine, fine, fine, fine.
- 1:03:53A lot of vans have ripped off a lot of things.
- 1:03:58I really feel like killing Joe. Needs to be in and especially
- 1:04:01because Jordy Walker died recently and I think the band
- 1:04:04has a final album ready to go and I think that just maybe it's
- 1:04:08going to come out and maybe it's not their scientists find farm
- 1:04:10records for one more album at least.
- 1:04:12I would love this farewell or final album to come out.
- 1:04:15I don't see the band coming back without Jordy but.
- 1:04:22Tough, but I love this photo. And there's actually my correct
- 1:04:25photo. Mark the echoes in the well,
- 1:04:27photography that looks like the Black Sabbath Masters reality
- 1:04:31thumbnail. There, I love that thing.
- 1:04:33Guitar pick looking thing. I did a good job on this.
- 1:04:35This is I'm proud of this ministry.
- 1:04:39Ministry is calling it a career. In the next couple of years,
- 1:04:42they're winding down their career with one final studio
- 1:04:45album on Cleopatra Records. Barker and Jorgensen ride again.
- 1:04:51I think Ministry over the long like the first early influential
- 1:04:56again, Killing Joke, Joy Division.
- 1:04:59Ministry would be the third band.
- 1:05:00The Cures in there, they're already in and Cure crosses so
- 1:05:04many things. Post punk and alternative and
- 1:05:06goth and ministry absolutely I think needs to be in and I would
- 1:05:11love to see it. And I think Al would also be
- 1:05:14like, I wouldn't want to put a microphone in front of them
- 1:05:16depending on the day, in front of all those people in tuxedos
- 1:05:19and bullshit. But like it'd be kind of great
- 1:05:21to have him do it and it'd be great for him to get in.
- 1:05:24It'd be a real fuck you to the establishment, even though that
- 1:05:27is the establishment, but it'd still be like a fuck you.
- 1:05:31Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Now, 9 Inch Nails just got in a
- 1:05:34couple years ago and I can absolutely see the way it's
- 1:05:38going with their composing career and especially this Tron
- 1:05:41Erie soundtrack. I can see Trent and Atticus just
- 1:05:44getting in the Hall of Fame as composers.
- 1:05:48I think in the future you will see composers Hans Zimmer and
- 1:05:51people like John Williams be invited into the Rock and Roll
- 1:05:55Hall of Fame. Because if you're going to put
- 1:05:57in rap and country and Blues and jazz, you're going to put in
- 1:06:00anybody. And this music is actually
- 1:06:02really more the mainstream music than anything else 9 Inch Nails
- 1:06:06has done. If you just look at the success
- 1:06:08of the movies, they've worked on billions of dollars worth of
- 1:06:11movie soundtracks. I'd love to see. 9 inch nails
- 1:06:15or. Trenton Atticus do a Star Wars
- 1:06:16movie soundtrack. How cool would that be?
- 1:06:20Tales, of course, on. Just a thought.
- 1:06:25I'm just putting it out there, everybody.
- 1:06:28I think it's possible someday now to talk about some punk.
- 1:06:32And I think this is hella interesting also because I
- 1:06:35think. You know, I think this is the
- 1:06:40one. Area that you know, maybe
- 1:06:42doesn't get completely well talked about.
- 1:06:45Oh well so here so here's sort of like the crossover of punk
- 1:06:48and also dance music is Devo. Devo has been eligible forever.
- 1:06:53They are criminally underrated. They're, they're, I know right
- 1:06:56now they're on tour with the B50 twos and they're doing like
- 1:06:59amphitheaters and 10 to 15,000 seaters and people are saying
- 1:07:03that maybe you know. Maybe that B50?
- 1:07:07Twos have lost a step in terms of their energy, and they're
- 1:07:10tuning down everything to be able to sing the way they used.
- 1:07:13You know, they're around for 50 years.
- 1:07:14You let me see where you're singing 50 years into your
- 1:07:17career. But Devo is still, I know that
- 1:07:20they've been kind of on a farewell tour for about 5 or 6
- 1:07:22years or seven years. Maybe it's an Akron versus
- 1:07:25Cleveland thing. I don't fucking know, but Devo
- 1:07:28should be in the Hall of Fame. I mean, Talking Heads are in,
- 1:07:31Blondie is in, Ramones are in Devo punk, post punk,
- 1:07:35alternative, new wave everything, right?
- 1:07:38Danny Elfman and Oingo Boingo for composer and rock band.
- 1:07:42Yeah, I I, you know, maybe I I think Danny's got also, we got a
- 1:07:48sketchy artist coming up in one more second.
- 1:07:50Danny's a little sketch, but he is genius, right?
- 1:07:53He's a fucking genius. Speaking of sketchy, Speaking of
- 1:07:57sketchy, your next artist here on this list and we're coming
- 1:08:01toward the end Rammstein. So maybe too perverted, too
- 1:08:06sketchy, too much controversy. But like in 10 more years when
- 1:08:11Rammstein has been around for 40 years and they're all retired by
- 1:08:14then, I'm sure they'll be done in the next few years.
- 1:08:17They have innovative, carried forth the their influences in a
- 1:08:23new way, made countless great albums.
- 1:08:26They don't have a bad fucking record.
- 1:08:28Their live shows are unfucking believable and I think Rammstein
- 1:08:32probably of like if 9 Inch Nails is in and Ministry could get in,
- 1:08:36I don't know that there's a lot of other bands in that genre
- 1:08:39that should be in strictly. You know what?
- 1:08:43We were talking offline. Melissa, about KMFDMI, love them
- 1:08:47and I'm you know, and the same with yeah, I just think they're
- 1:08:50all a little too small. Lords of acid, KMFDMD, Crips
- 1:08:53just a little too small comparatively to Rammstein and 9
- 1:08:58inch channels in ministry. But you're not wrong.
- 1:09:00Devo doc may have helped them nominate in 18/21/22 but nothing
- 1:09:04in three years. So fucked up Devo get get them
- 1:09:07in now for some punks, here's misfits.
- 1:09:10John, you said misfits. A bunch of people in TikTok said
- 1:09:13Misfits. I don't have a you know, like I
- 1:09:17have photos of Danzig and I have to use gingerly because he puts
- 1:09:20a copyright claim on everything. Even I just said it out loud.
- 1:09:23Probably getting fucked down but Misfits especially right now, I
- 1:09:27still feel like Danzig hates touring so much that he probably
- 1:09:31has not taken huge paydays to go to Europe by now.
- 1:09:35Anybody else that's not Danzig would have already been like did
- 1:09:38A50 date arena tour of Europe and just cashed in and cashed
- 1:09:43out and fucked off. But he hates touring so much
- 1:09:46that he can only bear to do this sporadically.
- 1:09:49I saw Danzig. Danzig as a solo artist would be
- 1:09:52inherently interesting. I think he's just not big
- 1:09:54enough. Maybe as an influence.
- 1:09:56But I'd love to see Misfits get in.
- 1:09:59It would be really fitting for them to get in.
- 1:10:01They really are kind of the band the Hall of Fame should put in
- 1:10:04honestly. Came from nowhere, made their
- 1:10:06own thing, did it better than anybody else, even with a
- 1:10:09million clowns. So yeah, cheers to.
- 1:10:14Danzig and the guys, I hope. I hope Misfits would get in
- 1:10:17someday. And Danzig, thank you.
- 1:10:22Thank you very much. Bikini Kill.
- 1:10:26Here you go, Melissa. Bikini Kill absolutely needs to
- 1:10:30be in. If you want your heart broken,
- 1:10:32watch the Bikini Kill Kathleen Hannah documentary.
- 1:10:37If you want to hurt your heart and your brain, read her book
- 1:10:40Rebel Girl Bikini Kill. I still feel like Hole is a
- 1:10:44better band. I will always feel like Hole is
- 1:10:47a better band. But Bikini Kill is iconic and
- 1:10:51necessary and they should have been in a long time ago.
- 1:10:55Technically they were eligible 10 years ago, So what the fuck
- 1:10:59of 10 years ago? No, 10 years ago.
- 1:11:02This is like their 35th or 36th years band even though they were
- 1:11:05broken up for a long time so I don't know.
- 1:11:08Should have been out already. Should have been in already.
- 1:11:11And also L7 and probably Bikini Kill would get in before L7 just
- 1:11:16because they're more popular. Bad Religion.
- 1:11:19Now we're really. Into the punks.
- 1:11:21This is a great This is one of my favorite photos or my
- 1:11:23favorite show reviews of the year was by airline partner
- 1:11:25Omar. This is where Bad Religion and
- 1:11:29Dropkick Murphy's played on a rooftop overlooking New York
- 1:11:33City skyline in in lower Manhattan with the Brooklyn
- 1:11:36Bridge and the skyline behind them.
- 1:11:39Insane. I love Bad Religion.
- 1:11:42I got to see them three years ago in a tiny club with 125
- 1:11:45people. I still have the set list.
- 1:11:47Incredible. I had a great night.
- 1:11:49I bullshitted. My way in and I got in for.
- 1:11:51Free. It was wild.
- 1:11:54Great band, tremendous discography, hugely
- 1:11:56inspirational, hugely influential.
- 1:11:59Epitaph Records is because of Bad Religion, all the things.
- 1:12:02Even though Brett Gurwitz is not with the band anymore, you know
- 1:12:06should be in by all rights. Suicidal tendencies a little
- 1:12:12bit. Of punk, a little bit of metal,
- 1:12:13right? Like a lot of people consider
- 1:12:15Suicidal A thrash band, but they really were a hardcore punk band
- 1:12:19for the first half of their career.
- 1:12:21They will have a new record next year.
- 1:12:23I do have several Bad Religions on vinyl, by the way.
- 1:12:26Suffer in particular is my favorite, but Suicidal one of my
- 1:12:30favorites. I'm, I'm hugely biased, hugely
- 1:12:34inspirational, hugely influential.
- 1:12:37I know there's this element about them that were, you know,
- 1:12:39banned from LA gangs this that the other thing, but like.
- 1:12:45Ramones are in Sex Pistols. Are in if and religion gets in.
- 1:12:49Maybe suicidal should be in between all the different
- 1:12:52things. Also.
- 1:12:56No effects. Also controversial.
- 1:12:59No effects. Much better than a lot of bands
- 1:13:01that came after them that copied them, including some other bands
- 1:13:04coming up on this list. I know that Mike is very
- 1:13:07controversial and would be also another guy.
- 1:13:10Would love to just give him a microphone and have him come up
- 1:13:13to the mic and be like penises, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:13:18Vaginas, hermaphrodites. He just go nuts with the sex
- 1:13:22talk and the horn talk. But like, you know, no effects
- 1:13:26is hugely important. They retired last year.
- 1:13:28Maybe they will come back at some point.
- 1:13:30I know Mike is working on his musicals and other things and
- 1:13:33the Punk Rock Museum is rule. Just rules.
- 1:13:35Absolutely fucking rules. But yeah, I think no effects,
- 1:13:41eventually you should get in the Hall of Fame.
- 1:13:44Especially because other bands that came after them that copied
- 1:13:47them are already in Green Day. Looking at you, even though I
- 1:13:50really like Green Day a lot. And Speaking of bands that
- 1:13:53copied No Effects, literally tracing around the fucking
- 1:13:57outline of them. Blink 182.
- 1:13:59Not my favorite band, but obviously huge to a certain
- 1:14:04generation of fans. Hugely important.
- 1:14:06I know Melissa hates them. You notice Rancid is not on
- 1:14:09here. And I do love Rancid.
- 1:14:12You know Social D is not on here.
- 1:14:14I know people love Social D and Mike, but Blink is probably
- 1:14:18going to get in in the next few years.
- 1:14:19It seems like they've also been a little overlooked, but they
- 1:14:23are bound to get in. They're huge, hugely popular and
- 1:14:27inspired a whole bunch of other really bad bands.
- 1:14:30So super interesting. 5th Bone is a band that maybe they don't
- 1:14:36have the commercial popularity, but they absolutely have the
- 1:14:38chops, the albums and the integrity despite the personal
- 1:14:41drama and strife of the band. Fishbone is an essential 90s and
- 1:14:472000s band. They're the last album that's
- 1:14:49out now. I'm going to get to them in a
- 1:14:51second. Their last album that's out now,
- 1:14:54Stockholm Syndrome, that's out. And Omar interviewed Angela
- 1:14:59Moore. Really.
- 1:15:01Fucking great. Love Fishbone.
- 1:15:03I love fishbone, dude, and I know Q loves fishbone.
- 1:15:05Oh, I lost one of my lights. All right, so, so Black Flag and
- 1:15:09Dead Kennedy's. Dead Kennedy's should be in.
- 1:15:11Should have been in a long time ago.
- 1:15:14I don't have any really good photos of either Jello or the
- 1:15:17Dead Kennedys and whatever version of that band they're
- 1:15:19doing right now and Black Flag. I just feel like Greg is just
- 1:15:23fucking shitting on his whole fucking legacy with whatever
- 1:15:27he's doing now. He's got every right to put the
- 1:15:29band out and do whatever he wants, but like, it just doesn't
- 1:15:33feel good listening. When I watched some of those
- 1:15:35videos and I had to turn it off, I was like, this is a disgrace.
- 1:15:38I also think Rollins could theoretically get in as a
- 1:15:41musical influence as a solo artist between his sort of pop
- 1:15:45culture, like his sheer will and love of music to put music upon
- 1:15:51a pedestal, as a public figure because of his Black Flag and
- 1:15:55Rollins Band history, I feel like Rollins solo should
- 1:15:58definitely be in. You know, Black Flag deserves to
- 1:16:00get in. I know people are mixed on them
- 1:16:02and how good they are, but yeah, I think Rollins maybe culturally
- 1:16:07could deserve to get in. I also don't have any real good
- 1:16:09photos of Rollins. I have permission to use and
- 1:16:12that's the. That's an hour.
- 1:16:14And 16 minutes I. Only, you know, 55 slides of
- 1:16:17these things. I didn't really realize how how
- 1:16:19much we were going to go do this, but.
- 1:16:23Yeah, man. Like I love that.
- 1:16:25Soundgarden is in, they deserve to be in.
- 1:16:28I'm sad that Chris is gone. Shane's Faith No More Maiden,
- 1:16:33Dio Solo, absolutely all need to be in.
- 1:16:35STP needs to be in. I feel like Pumpkins will get in
- 1:16:39whole should be in. Maybe never going to get in, but
- 1:16:41should be in. Bikini Kill should be in.
- 1:16:44And some of those bands, Yeah, it's like we're hanging at the
- 1:16:48store, bro. This is that's the that's I did
- 1:16:50my job. That's what I love to do.
- 1:16:52Talk about, you know, blue sky, my love of music.
- 1:16:56That's why I do what I do. Thank you so much for being
- 1:16:58here, John. You're the best.
- 1:17:00We do have a package coming your way from that glacially musical
- 1:17:03contest also soon. But yeah, we'll be back,
- 1:17:07probably. Not tomorrow, we got a new band
- 1:17:09interview running tomorrow morning with Evoken and then I
- 1:17:12will be back Thursday afternoon evening with The Weekly Ritual,
- 1:17:15your one stop shop for Rocky metal news and concerts and
- 1:17:19metal festival news and all the drama and rumors of the week.
- 1:17:24Oh yeah, man, I. Can't believe I missed that
- 1:17:27show. Fuck me, what a regret.
- 1:17:30I have some regrets. Regrets.
- 1:17:32I've got a few, but still too few to mention.
- 1:17:36Thanks everybody for being here. Everybody on on the tick of the
- 1:17:38talk. Everybody everywhere except
- 1:17:40Graham. The Graham did not work out too
- 1:17:41well today. Except maybe that goes called
- 1:17:44Kefi. I'll go check that out in a
- 1:17:46little bit. Yeah.
- 1:17:48Chris and Andy. Nobody sings like you anymore.
- 1:17:50For real, bro. And Lane too.
- 1:17:52Lane especially, actually. The Glacier, The Musical.
- 1:17:57Podcast is doing our last episode on Alice In Chains
- 1:18:00tomorrow for now with the Alice In Chains Unplugged.
- 1:18:03So I'm looking forward to that'll be out on Friday.
- 1:18:05Thanks everybody for being here and appreciate you all.
- 1:18:09I'm Kifi. Have a good night.
- 1:18:10Be safe and we'll see you in the next one.
- 1:18:13Peace and grease.
