- 0:10SPEAKER_03: This is what everybody's been waiting for.
- 0:12SPEAKER_03: You know, there's a lot of lists, a lot of power rankings, a lot of Mount Rushmore's.
- 0:17SPEAKER_03: It's out of hand.
- 0:18SPEAKER_03: I feel like I forget every year, fellas,
- 0:21SPEAKER_03: just how batshit crazy this time of year is because there's nothing happening.
- 0:28SPEAKER_03: But it's 24-7, 365.
- 0:31SPEAKER_03: The news hole never dies in today's NFL media.
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: I wish everybody would just read...
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: Our good friend Matthew Fairburn's hockey coverage, right?
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: Follow those Buffalo Sabres.
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: Does an excellent job over there.
- 0:44SPEAKER_03: That's where the action's happening.
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: But no, I can't complain.
- 0:48SPEAKER_03: It means the NFL is still king and people want content.
- 0:51SPEAKER_03: But yes, the lists are out of control.
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: So we figured we'd make one of our own.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: I got to defend my quarterback title here.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Last year, I don't think we did this, did we?
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: You guys kind of had your tails between your legs,
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: ran away scared after I schooled you in year one.
- 1:10SPEAKER_03: It took a full year for us to overcome that defeat, Matt.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: It was embarrassing, humiliating.
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: A couple of football guys like ourselves hosting a podcast called Real Football,
- 1:23SPEAKER_03: and we just bring you into our world.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: Draft quarterbacks and get our asses beat.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: So it took us some time to lick those wounds.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: You're right.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: You doing okay over there, Jim?
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I'm focused.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: I've been dialed in since then.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: The research has been nonstop.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: I have to get a free dinner.
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: I do wish that Tom Donahoe was in your room there for a fist bump,
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: Jim, so we could maybe reenact Howie Roseman.
- 1:56SPEAKER_03: Tom Donahoe, that epic.
- 1:59SPEAKER_03: Howie was all pumped up.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: Tom wanted nothing to do with him.
- 2:03SPEAKER_03: You do have a visitor coming, potentially around two, to work on your stove.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: So maybe he could be part of the fist bumping there at Monus HQ after
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: these picks.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: At that point, he can make the pick.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: Well, here's what we're going to do.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: We're going to draft quarterbacks.
- 2:21SPEAKER_03: We're going to snake it.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: And yeah, we each take six, I think we agreed to.
- 2:27SPEAKER_03: And then the five best will be recorded.
- 2:32SPEAKER_03: We've entrusted Jim Monas to handle all mathematics on how to do that
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: between total yards, touchdowns, QBR.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: We'll get the best of the best.
- 2:43SPEAKER_03: And then the winner gets dinner on the other two.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: Simple as that.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: We randomized it.
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: First pick.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: We'll be Matthew Fairburn.
- 2:54SPEAKER_03: Second pick will be myself.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: And I hate to tell you, Jim,
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: but you're bringing up the rear at number three,
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: but then you get to go number four and we'll go from there.
- 3:03SPEAKER_03: It's probably right where you want to be.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: Love that pick.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: Yes, love that pick.
- 3:07SPEAKER_03: But yeah, there's been a lot of debate out there.
- 3:10SPEAKER_03: And we'll get into all the quarterbacks, all the specifics.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: We'll make our picks.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: We'll BS about them,
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: what we like,
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: what we don't like, what we see this football season and have some fun.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 3:23SPEAKER_03: First of all, what restaurant are you guys picking if you win?
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: I already told you.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: We're heading down to the Dunn Estate down there in God's country for a home-cooked meal.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: I feel like that's going to be my pick once I win this thing.
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: I may poison those burgers, those steaks, those sausages, whatever's thrown on the grill.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: You never know.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: No, I would never do that to you.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: I will say though, we had a visitor in our grill a couple months ago.
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: It was a great day.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: It was sunny.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: He was loving it.
- 3:55SPEAKER_03: A couple of chipmunks.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: No, I'm sorry.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: Not chipmunks.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: Mice.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: Mice running around in there.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: I just used it the week prior and they were just living it up.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: So are you sure?
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, maybe we just cook up those mice for you if you win.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: It's funny you mention that.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: I have my car and the interior getting cleaned right now because we had
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: a little activity in there.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: They're everywhere, though.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: It's a real pain in the ass.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, maybe I'm going to have second thoughts, actually, now that you mention it.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: No, no.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: We want you down here.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: I'm going to have Gina cook the meal inside.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: I'm going to stay away from the grill.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: At FeedMeUnderSquareBuffalo on Instagram, my wife.
- 4:34SPEAKER_03: Yes, she'll handle all cooking for you.
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: That's what we'll do.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: Jim, how about yourself?
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think we got to do a new steakhouse.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: I think it's time to up our game.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: It's a long season.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: If we're going to do this, let's make it worthwhile.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: We can do wings, and I'm good with wings too, home cook for sure.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: There's that new steakhouse by Chef Daniel Bryan that he has a – I forget the name of it.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: I think it's Reserve, but I want to try that one.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: So we'll put that on the list if I win.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Good thing Jim's got the third pick.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Sounds like an expensive loss if we lose.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's exactly right.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: We're stepping it up.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: Matt's like, throw some hot dogs on the grill.
- 5:15SPEAKER_03: Jim's like, no.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: No, steak time.
- 5:18SPEAKER_03: You're buying me an $180 porterhouse.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: We invest a whole season.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: A celebrity chef in Buffalo.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: Wasn't he just on the Food Network winning something again?
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: That's why we're going.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: We got to treat ourselves to a good meal.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: It's your choice.
- 5:31SPEAKER_03: You can do whatever you want.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: It's a celebration.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: A long season.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Somebody has to pay.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: I mean, me and my brother eat at 9-11 Tavern all the time.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: That's always an easy choice here.
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: But I want to bring you guys down to the Southern tier.
- 5:47SPEAKER_03: It's part of the Grange family.
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: We're going to go to Westeros after I clean house here with my A-plus selections
- 5:55SPEAKER_03: across the board.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: Westeros is always solid.
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: Parents were just there for their anniversary.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: Delivered.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: I mean, it doesn't matter if you get a burger,
- 6:04SPEAKER_03: if you get pizza, if you get one of their other things.
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: Everything.
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: Everything there.
- 6:07SPEAKER_03: Fantastic.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: So we'll make that happen,
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: and then maybe we'll work our way over to Madigan's and have a pop or two.
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: Let's do it.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: Matt Fairburn, you are on the clock.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: I don't have a timer, but let's say that you got 10 seconds.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: I have a timer.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: I feel like it's an easy pick, number one.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: I'm taking Josh Allen.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: I believe I had Josh Allen last time.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: And the beauty of our exercise here,
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: as Jim Monas always likes to say, the numbers don't lie, right?
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: The stats don't lie.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: So you can have all your debates about who's the best quarterback in the league and
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Which one of these guys,
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: how do they rank all time and how do you weigh in playoffs and all that?
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: We're looking at the 17 games in the regular season.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: We're looking at the numbers.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: We're looking at cumulative QBR among our squad here.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: And I have a hard time picking against Josh Allen.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: He's...
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Year to year,
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: as consistent as any quarterback in the league,
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: you're always going to find him right near the top
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: of pretty much every statistical category.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: He still makes a huge impact with his legs, even as we'll see how that goes here, right?
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: He just turned 30,
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: I believe, so he's hit that magic number where we all start to feel a little old.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: He's become a father.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: We'll see how long he can keep that up,
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: but I'm guessing he can do it another few years at least where he's that good
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: with his legs and we know he's one of the best passers in the NFL.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Look, I'll leave the screaming debates about playoffs and wins.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Legacy and all that to the hot take shows.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: And I'm just looking at the numbers and I just have a hard time betting against this guy.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: And look,
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: I like the,
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: I know he's not changing offensive coordinators per se,
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: but new head coach, potentially new philosophy, new top receiver and DJ more.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: I think there's some things to like about the environment around him there offensively.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: And, um, Yeah, makes it easy.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: The number one pick.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: I feel like it gets a little trickier after Josh Allen,
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: but I don't know if you guys had anybody else at the top here.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: I think that's a slam dunk.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: Excellent pick by Matthew Fairburn right there.
- 8:35SPEAKER_03: And you know what?
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: You know, those hot take artists on the playoff.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: Clearly,
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: Josh Allen should have given Levi Wallace a hip check on 13 seconds,
- 8:45SPEAKER_03: gotten out there, defied his coaches, pressed a receiver.
- 8:49SPEAKER_03: And made a play defensively, just like he should have on defense for the last seven years.
- 8:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's done enough in the playoffs.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, he was no good against Denver last year, right?
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Like, obviously, he was not good against Denver.
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: They had a 27-23 lead with a couple minutes.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: You know, he was... Wasn't his best.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: He let them down, for sure, in that game in the first half.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: Claude is way back.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I think when you look at his cumulative playoff record, it's really solid.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: He's done enough to at least have appeared in a Super Bowl.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: The last taste we have in our mouth is not a good one from that Denver game.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Tough showing for him, but...
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: I don't know,
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: he seems in a pretty good place,
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: and I just think he's been remarkably consistent year over year of just raising
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: the floor, raising the bar for this team.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's an easy pick, easy pick for me.
- 9:46SPEAKER_03: You referenced it too, just a final point on Josh Allen.
- 9:51SPEAKER_03: He hasn't been juggernaut arcade stat Josh the last few years.
- 9:56SPEAKER_03: And there's a lot of reasons for that.
- 9:59SPEAKER_03: The shift into more two and three tight end looks for the best offenses with
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: the best play callers,
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: that's been the counterpunch with lighter linebackers and more finesse boxes.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: The Rams,
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: they went three tight end more than any team in the NFL,
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: and they had the MVP quarterback.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: So there's some of that.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: We've talked about it a bunch with Jim Monis at Real Football and Eric Wood on
- 10:21SPEAKER_03: the happy hour this week.
- 10:23SPEAKER_03: Eric Wood agrees.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: I mean, there is something to your boss, the head coach, wants a game plan a certain way.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: You're going to call plays that fit that game plan.
- 10:35SPEAKER_03: I think it's going to loosen up.
- 10:36SPEAKER_03: You know, there's always going to be a counterpunch to the counterpunch.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: Philosophically now across the NFL,
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: teams are going to be ready for all these tight ends and all this running.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, I think you're going to see more deep shots.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: They have better receivers.
- 10:50SPEAKER_03: DJ Moore is an upgrade.
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: I think the numbers will be ticking upward for Josh Allen through the air.
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: Strong pick.
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: Any thoughts on Josh Allen before I make my pick?
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: That's me filibustering as I do some last-minute research in my head, Jim.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: No, I'm not going to comment anymore on him.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: We know.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: He's what you want to win a Super Bowl.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: It's just time for them to get there.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: That Denver game is a different game if the greatest player in the history
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: of football, James Cook, could actually hold onto the ball.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: I'm glad that you bring that up because nobody really talks
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: about that play.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: They're about to score on that drive to go up.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: I'm just telling you, same with DK Metcalf in that Steeler game against Houston.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Go back and look at it.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Changes the whole game on that drop.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: But anyway, no, Josh, no brainer.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Numbers are going to be sick.
- 11:41SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 11:41SPEAKER_03: At number two overall, my first pick.
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: This might come as a bit of a surprise.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: Because through all of the quarterback discourse across the country,
- 11:53SPEAKER_03: I don't know why I feel like nobody's talking about this guy.
- 11:57SPEAKER_03: The last imagery that we have of this quarterback was ugly.
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: But I think you have to look big picture with this all.
- 12:07SPEAKER_03: Give me Drake May.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: Number two.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: You just took my pick.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: You did.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: I was going to take him.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: Go ahead.
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: You got to trust your board, Jim.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: Just cross him off.
- 12:19SPEAKER_03: And go with the next best.
- 12:21SPEAKER_03: Look, here's why I love Drake May in year three, in year four, in year five.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: And I just see him only getting better, regardless of what their schedule is.
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: Obviously, it's going to be tougher.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: It'll be harder to get back to the Super Bowl with the AFC and all these quarterbacks.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: And that's where the best are.
- 12:38SPEAKER_03: But I was just chatting with Kurt Warner about this.
- 12:41SPEAKER_03: He's made this point.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: And then a quarterbacks coach who's had quarterbacks in the AFC and NFC.
- 12:49SPEAKER_03: And you had this conversation with all these guys.
- 12:51SPEAKER_03: They bring up the same thing.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: There are young quarterbacks who they get into the NFL and we'll be drafting some of them.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: They blow up.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: The numbers are through the roof.
- 13:03SPEAKER_03: But the offense is simplified.
- 13:07SPEAKER_03: It's very similar to what they ran in college.
- 13:09SPEAKER_03: You think that that's the way to go.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: We've talked about it, Jim.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: I go back and forth because, yes, you want it to be quarterback-friendly.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: You want that quarterback who had a Heisman Trophy winning season running all over
- 13:25SPEAKER_03: the place, throwing all over the place.
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: You want to give him what he wants, but it's almost like a snowplow parent in real life.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: You're not making it easy for him down the road because that's not going to last forever.
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: At some point, you've got to play the quarterback position.
- 13:41SPEAKER_03: You've got to read the field.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: You've got to make decisions.
- 13:44SPEAKER_03: You've got to have a lot on your plate.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: And Drake May with Josh McDaniels, it's all of that.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's running that Tom Brady offense.
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: He's not just doing pure progression stuff.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: He actually has to read a safety who might be trying to sell one thing pre-snap,
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: post-snap when he's really doing something else.
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: It's tough.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: And it wasn't perfect, right?
- 14:12SPEAKER_03: The Super Bowl against Seattle.
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: I forget who it was on the sideline.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: The Seahawks were talking about it.
- 14:17SPEAKER_03: They're saying, hey, he's not like Matthew Stafford, where he's just letting it rip.
- 14:22SPEAKER_03: You know, the guy has to be open before he throws the ball.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: I'm going to bank that the injury had something to do with all of that for Drake May.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: He just didn't look like himself for most of the year.
- 14:31SPEAKER_03: He lost the MVP by just a few votes.
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: I think the fact that they put a lot on his plate, it's been hard for him.
- 14:39SPEAKER_03: He really hasn't had a great supporting cast.
- 14:41SPEAKER_03: Now he's got A.J.
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: Brown.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: It's only going to get better for Drake May.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: And he can run.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, he's
- 14:47SPEAKER_03: athletic.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: There's nothing that he doesn't possess, right?
- 14:52SPEAKER_03: Like he reads the field.
- 14:53SPEAKER_03: He's got touch.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: He can layer throws.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: He can run.
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: He can lead.
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: And he's insanely young.
- 15:02SPEAKER_03: So I'm very happy to get Drake May at number two.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: I don't think he's had to play with expectations yet.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: I don't think he's had to play.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: He has not played well in the playoffs.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: That is concerning.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: We can easily write it off to injuries,
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: but that quarterback rating is the same as Tommy Maddox in the playoffs.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: I looked it up.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: That's not going to be good enough against real teams.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: The draw was good this year.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: Bottom line,
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: what he has done,
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: Before this injury was putting up numbers and had everybody on their heels.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: And it's only going to get better, I agree.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: That coach is a proven offensive coordinator.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: He's a beast, to your point.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Guys are open.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: You have to be smart with your reads and be accurate.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: And May is, I mean, he can miss touchdowns.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: That was my issue with him coming out in North Carolina,
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: where I thought he overthrew a lot of balls.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: I thought he left touchdowns on the field.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: I thought the release could sometimes be a little slow.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: And things processing, just everything in his game, I thought needed to be a little quicker.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: But no, right now it's just fine tuning it, doing it against the big boys consistently.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: He won't get away with playing like that again in the playoffs.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: But that's, like you said, there was other factors involved.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: I like the pick.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: It's a reach.
- 16:20SPEAKER_03: You know what I really think?
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: It's a reach.
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: Oh, hey, easy, easy.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: No, I like Drake May a lot.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: I think if we're picking a franchise,
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: and you're picking,
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: if the criteria is you're picking a team for,
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: the next 10 years,
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: Drake May,
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: this is probably an appropriate range,
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: but I'm feeling good that,
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: I mean, look, he was probably a top five, you know, ish pick for me.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: I think the floor is pretty high here because you mentioned he can run and
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: It's what I did last time.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: You zero in on the numbers, right?
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: You remove the emotion,
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: you remove the narrative, you remove all that, and you focus on the numbers.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: And I think to Jim's point,
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: there's potential for a little bit of bumpiness with a tougher schedule
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: and different expectations,
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: defenses playing them a little differently with an offseason to study them.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: But I just think there's other guys that are a little bit more proven.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: So it's a little bit of a reach for me, but.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: I like the player a lot.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: I think last year he was incredibly fun to watch and,
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: you know, makes the conference that much more interesting.
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: And just randomly,
- 17:30SPEAKER_03: whenever the Patriots were on and I'm like locked into a full game,
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, there'd be so many dropped passes and things that went wrong.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: His numbers were great and they won a lot of games and they still left a lot on the field.
- 17:43SPEAKER_03: I don't know, like final point on Drake Mays.
- 17:46SPEAKER_03: One of the early moments where I started to really believe when he was in the NFL.
- 17:51SPEAKER_03: And you guys know,
- 17:52SPEAKER_03: we try to do a deep dive or two on these quarterbacks,
- 17:55SPEAKER_03: which requires conversations with coaches who may be with that team,
- 18:00SPEAKER_03: coaches who maybe have left that team.
- 18:03SPEAKER_03: And to use an example, the Chicago Bears series, which was more than Caleb Williams.
- 18:08SPEAKER_03: It was really Ryan Poles, Kevin Warren, a lot going on there.
- 18:12SPEAKER_03: But, you know, The critiques of Caleb Williams, who I'm sure will be selected.
- 18:17SPEAKER_03: He's pretty high on all three of our boards, I'm sure, fellas.
- 18:22SPEAKER_03: But the response is, these coaches just have an ax to grind.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: It's sour grapes.
- 18:28SPEAKER_03: Well, all I know is Drake May in New England, that coaching staff, they all got fired too.
- 18:34SPEAKER_03: And when I talked to the quarterback's coach,
- 18:37SPEAKER_03: called him one of,
- 18:38SPEAKER_03: if not the smartest person in the building,
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: And then, quote, Drake is one of the best people I've ever met.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: He's always trying to do the right thing with little regard for anything else
- 18:47SPEAKER_03: in all areas of life.
- 18:48SPEAKER_03: That's TC McCarty.
- 18:49SPEAKER_03: So it's like it was the exact opposite.
- 18:51SPEAKER_03: Totally different experience working with a rookie,
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: Drake May, out there in New England when, I mean, these guys all got fired.
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: So, you know,
- 19:00SPEAKER_03: sometimes these perspectives all the time of these coaches,
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: it's worth listening to to get the full analysis out.
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: TC McCartney's in Green Bay now, by the way.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: So he landed on his feet.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: Number three, Jim Monas is on the board.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: I'm going to
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: go three and
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: four.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Three and four.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: I'll go back to back and you guys can analyze them because it's not going to take long.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: I'm not messing around anymore.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: I'm going Jared Goff, Matt Stafford.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: I want proven.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: I want coaches.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: I want vets.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: I want proven systems, off the chart numbers.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: These numbers are gonna be sick.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Both these teams, both these guys are gonna go out.
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: They're putting up, these vets, they have a year or two left.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: Goff, Stafford, they know this window is now.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Weapons galore for both.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: Weapons galore.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: There's no overthinking.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: No overthinking.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: You've got, again, we're talking about the numbers, right?
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: We're talking about,
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: and I mean, in Stafford's case, I think you get a little bit of both, right?
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: You get
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: the narrative components of the Matthew Stafford file are pretty strong as well, right?
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: This is,
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: I feel like in line with,
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: the way Jim Monas was thinking last time we put this together,
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: kind of,
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: finding these guys that are, look,
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: Stafford would have definitely,
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: you know, been on my radar at the end of the turn here.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: And Goff, you know, probably would have been in that mix as well.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, you're talking about two really high floors here and you got to nail those early picks.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: Tell you who I was thinking of once he's selected.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Like you said, I wasn't putting a whole lot of the system.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: You know what they're going to put up number-wise.
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: I'm stunned that Jim went with Jared Goff.
- 20:54SPEAKER_03: You've been a critic of Jared Goff.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: No, if I'm building a team, it's different.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: If we're putting up numbers in a system, no-brainer.
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: You're not going to get a lot of rushing production out of either quarterback.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: Does that concern you?
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: No, because we're doing QBR.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: So we're just adding the stats in.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: We just add the passing stats in.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: Take some rushing.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: QBR has rushing.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: Well, are you doing QB rating or QBR?
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: QBR.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: Okay, I got you.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: QBR has rushing.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: But I think even so, I mean, where did Matthew Stafford finish last year?
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: That's why I suggested we go QBR and quarterback rating.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: Well, that would be tough then because, well, how would you do it if you have two?
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, Drake May was number one in QBR last year, so maybe ties onto something.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: And, you know, Stafford was four.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: QBR is fine.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: Stafford was four without any of the rushing.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: It's evolved over time.
- 22:05SPEAKER_03: Yes, it's evolved over time.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: You don't get it confused with QBR and QB rating, because rating...
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: Rating's different, yeah.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: Rating's different, and that's the one.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: QBR's been...
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: They needed that one.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: It was a good one.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: That came on the scene was good.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: It's an ESPN proprietary stat, right?
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: I think.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: I think so, too, and it's much better than rating.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: All right, who's up?
- 22:51SPEAKER_03: I believe I'm on the clock.
- 22:55SPEAKER_03: I think it's you.
- 22:55SPEAKER_03: This is an incredibly...
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: Easy selection.
- 22:59SPEAKER_03: I thought about him at two.
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: Cincinnati Bengals quarterback, Joe Burrow, has flown off the board.
- 23:07SPEAKER_03: Can't sprint up to the podium fast enough.
- 23:10SPEAKER_03: I get it.
- 23:10SPEAKER_03: Injuries.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: That was the only reason I wasn't.
- 23:13SPEAKER_03: They're a concern.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: That was it.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: That was the only reason.
- 23:15SPEAKER_03: Gotta see it.
- 23:16SPEAKER_03: Gotta see it.
- 23:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, was chatting with a coach out there in Cincinnati
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: last week,
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: and I thought he made a great point.
- 23:25SPEAKER_03: That players in that locker room are rejuvenated.
- 23:30SPEAKER_03: Not just, you know, Burroughs, the big thing is he's getting mean.
- 23:33SPEAKER_03: He's getting tough on guys with his leadership style.
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: And that's nice.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: I mean, Jamar Chase is locked up.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: T. Higgins is locked up.
- 23:41SPEAKER_03: They've drafted on the offensive line.
- 23:43SPEAKER_03: But I think their rejuvenation really comes from seeing the front office give a shit
- 23:49SPEAKER_03: about the defense.
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: I mean, they went out and got a Dexter Lawrence, Boye Mafé, Brian Cook.
- 23:57SPEAKER_03: This is a team that doesn't spend.
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: And it took Joe Burrow speaking up repeatedly to get them to spend.
- 24:04SPEAKER_03: I mean, we heard him late last season.
- 24:05SPEAKER_03: Remember, Jim, how sad he was at the podium.
- 24:08SPEAKER_03: It sounded like a guy who wanted out, just despondent.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: Everything that I can tell is it's been the exact opposite in that room.
- 24:18SPEAKER_03: And when he's been healthy, when he's been on the field, It's been ridiculous.
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: He is the most accurate quarterback in the NFL.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: I'm picturing that snow game against Buffalo right up until Christian Bedford's pick six.
- 24:35SPEAKER_03: Can't just overlook that,
- 24:36SPEAKER_03: but the way he can just place the ball everywhere it has to be with those weapons.
- 24:42SPEAKER_03: Would not be surprised if Joe Burrow just went scorched earth in 2026 and set some records.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: He is, he was high,
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: he was on my,
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: he was the guy I probably would have gone with here had you not taken him.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: Outside of the injury risk, he is, Um,
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: look, I think he's got, he's got the weapons around him to, to put up the numbers.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: And in terms of,
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: he, he almost seems like he belongs in a different era a little bit, doesn't he?
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: Like all these mobile quarterbacks that do a lot of damage with their legs
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: and Burrow kind of feels like he would have fit into that Tom Brady,
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Peyton Manning era of drop back passers.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think he might be the,
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: the best of the, the pure drop back guys, um, you know, that we see.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: And that's, uh, Makes him fun to watch.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Brings a little bit of nostalgia, right?
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: I love watching these guys run around and change the game that way,
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: but it is fun to flip on a Bengals game and see him picking apart defenses.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: Two years ago,
- 25:46SPEAKER_03: 4,918 yards,
- 25:47SPEAKER_03: 43 touchdowns, nine picks on a Bengals team that didn't even make the playoffs.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: Allen wins MVP.
- 25:55SPEAKER_03: Everybody thought Lamar was going to win MVP,
- 25:57SPEAKER_03: and Burrow might have been The best of the bunch even that season.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: So keep an eye on the Bengals.
- 26:04SPEAKER_03: All right, Mr. Fairburn.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty shocked sitting here six overall that I get Lamar Jackson to pair with Josh Allen.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: I mean, that is just.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: If I had picks one and two, I would have gone Alan Jackson.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: And so to have one and six and I get Alan Jackson, I mean, I mean, right.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: These are these like the probably the two biggest lightning rods for the debate shows.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: Guys that haven't gotten it done.
- 26:37SPEAKER_00: They haven't won the Super Bowl.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: That doesn't matter for our little exercise, right?
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: I don't need to concern myself with those things.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: It's interesting because when you look at QBR from last year,
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: Lamar Jackson was down to nine, Allen was seven.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: They had some things holding them back,
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: but the rushing for both of these guys does raise the floor considerably.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: It was a bit of a down year for Jackson last year,
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: but he's a couple years removed from a ridiculous season statistically and still one
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: of those guys that just is capable of putting up insane numbers every single year.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: So easy pick for me at number six.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: Trickier.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: I think we're entering into a choose your own adventure tier, right?
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Like there's some question marks about different guys in this spot.
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: I'm going to go with maybe there's a little bit of risk here,
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: but it's also kind of fun to put this trio of quarterbacks together.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: I'm taking Patrick Mahomes.
- 27:50SPEAKER_00: To sit here and have Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Patrick Mahomes as my three guys.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: Look, he's coming off the injury.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: Here's what kind of sells me.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: The injury is the big question, but...
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: I think we would all say last year was his worst year, right?
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs had a pretty terrible year.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: He was still sixth in QBR.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: So he was better than Josh Allen in QBR last year,
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: despite, you know, what was probably his worst year.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: So I look at that,
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: I look at our criteria,
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: and I also just think, you know, I don't think he's done yet, right?
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: I don't think this is...
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: The sign of a decline or anything.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: I think we're talking about one of the all-time great quarterbacks,
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: and I'm betting on a bounce back,
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: and I feel like I have the cushion to do it because I have Josh Allen
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: and Lamar Jackson, probably two incredibly high-floor guys already in my repertoire.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: So if Mahomes has another stinker, then hopefully I can make up for it here in my later picks.
- 29:01SPEAKER_03: I wonder how affected he'll be.
- 29:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, everything looks great.
- 29:07SPEAKER_03: What do you think, Jim?
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: I wanted to talk about this because, Matt, how you're drafting is exactly what I talk about.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: If you're drafting to build teams,
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: no-brainers,
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: Mahomes,
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: all these guys, Burrow,
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: I'm worried about,
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: I always worry about Burrow's injury,
- 29:23SPEAKER_01: and then The newness with Lamar and Baltimore this year, just a new thing.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: So I'm just throwing that in the equation.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: And then same with who we just talked about.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: Who did you just draft?
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: Mahomes coming off the injury.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: That's what I mean.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: So there's just those little scenarios involved this year that could be hiccups for them.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: Obviously, they are the hurdle, the best of the best.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: I hope they're all in the AFC Final Four and battling it out.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: If they're all healthy,
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: these numbers should be I just feel like this year everybody's going
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: to be putting up numbers.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: I think offenses are better.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: Here's why I love Matt's draft is the newness, Allen, with Joe Brady.
- 30:05SPEAKER_03: We know his fingerprints all over that hire.
- 30:08SPEAKER_03: He was sitting in every interview.
- 30:10SPEAKER_03: Great relationship from meeting number one to today.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: I can't remember, Matt, were you at One Bill's Drive for Brady's introductory repressor?
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: Not for the intro.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: I was there for minicamp for a few days.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: And I was there for the explanatory press conference when Sean McDermott was fired,
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: but I was not there.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: I think I might have been in,
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: I don't know,
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: I was on the road with the hockey team somewhere when Joe Brady was introduced.
- 30:40SPEAKER_03: The sight that sticks with me is Josh Allen, row one, just glowing.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: This huge smile on his face, eyes lit up.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: Throughout Joe Brady's presser, their relationship is real.
- 30:54SPEAKER_03: And I don't know as much about Lamar Jackson and Jesse Minner.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: I did speak to somebody close to Lamar at one point this offseason.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: And he said that they've got a really good relationship.
- 31:05SPEAKER_03: Like when he was there before, talked a lot.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: And in both situations, the quarterback and head coach are closer in age.
- 31:13SPEAKER_03: They can relate to each other better.
- 31:15SPEAKER_03: Does it lead to wins?
- 31:17SPEAKER_03: We'll see, right?
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: We can make every case for every opinion on what that relationship should be
- 31:23SPEAKER_03: and what leads to wins and losses.
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: It's not like Tom Brady and Bill Belichick were throwing shots back two decades in Foxborough.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: But this year,
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: this season,
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: the newness,
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: the quarterback's fingerprints probably being all over the game plans to an extent.
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: Love it.
- 31:42SPEAKER_03: I think Lamar is good.
- 31:46SPEAKER_03: Bounce back year for him.
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: I've always been a bit of a Lamar apologist too.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: I think we are incredibly fortunate to,
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: I mean with a handful of these guys,
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: but incredibly fortunate to be watching the game when guys like Lamar Jackson
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: and Josh Allen are playing it.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: Two of the most entertaining quarterbacks to watch in history,
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: and I'd throw Mahomes in that camp as well.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: He's not quite the rushing threat,
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: but just has the imagination and the ability to make plays off-platform.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: They have all, in their own way, changed the quarterback position, and here I go.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: I'm introducing narrative into it.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: I've just always been drawn to Lamar Jackson,
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: and I think the numbers always back him up at the end of the year.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: He hasn't played well in the playoffs, but by then I'll be enjoying a free meal.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: I won't be worried about it.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: That's why we do a separate playoff one.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: As long as Lamar carves up the Browns in week 15 or whatever it is, I'm good.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: It doesn't matter what he does wild card weekend.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Jim Schwartz is not there anymore, so he probably will.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: What is Jim Schwartz up to?
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: I don't think anything.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: Let's get him on the show.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: Let's get Jim on.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: Just so you know, I was funny you're bringing him up.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: We can talk about that.
- 33:12SPEAKER_01: I was just going to reach out to him.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: I was thinking about him, too.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: I was like, what is he?
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: He'd be a good guy.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Let's get him on.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: I'd like to hear him when Whoever's blowing up early in the season after
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: that first quarter,
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: after the first four games or five games,
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: whatever,
- 33:30SPEAKER_01: like who maybe the offense that maybe is catching people off,
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: who's blowing up offensively and have him on to talk about what he's seeing with
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: that offense, how he would defend it.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: That's when you get a different,
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: I'm telling you right now, when he starts doing that, it's just let it go.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: It's a whole different football language, like above everybody.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: Greatest ever, in my opinion.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: We should do that.
- 33:53SPEAKER_03: I like that idea a lot.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: If we have access to him, any type of knowledge we could get from him would be fun.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: I always loved talking to Jim Schwartz when I was on the beat.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that year.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: That's right, Matt.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: Back in 2014.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 34:05SPEAKER_00: That was a great year.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: He's the best.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: Great year for the Bills defense.
- 34:11SPEAKER_00: Incredible individual performances.
- 34:13SPEAKER_00: And he was always just such a – I always just walked away from conversations
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: with him, kind of laughing at myself.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: He was like not –
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: He was ready to be done with the conversation, but also giving you great stuff the whole time.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: So it was just a really interesting personality, but I always loved talking to him.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: And he's put together a hell of a career.
- 34:39SPEAKER_03: That's a great description of some of the best coaches and players to talk to
- 34:44SPEAKER_03: from our perspective, isn't it?
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: It seems like they're disinterested and they want to be anywhere else.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: But they can't help
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: themselves, right?
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: They're like not even looking at you,
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: but they're just filling your notebook with incredible stuff.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: And you're like, you know what?
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: You only gave me eight minutes and you practically sprinted away when we were done.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: Dammit if this wasn't useful.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I'll take it, you know, you, you take what you can get.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: It's better than the alternative of,
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: uh, somebody who's, you know, really engaged, but holding back on you, right?
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: Like Jim Schwartz never really wanted to hold back.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: And maybe that's why he's bounced, bounced around a lot.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: If he's that way with,
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: with me,
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: then I imagine behind the scenes, he doesn't really pull any punches either.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: So, um, that'll tend to, that'll tend to ruffle some feathers.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: He doesn't hide it.
- 35:35SPEAKER_01: He has a list of demands to be a head coach.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: I know these, and it's a hard way to go into interviews for owners.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: So he definitely wants it his way, or else he's not that upset about not getting the job.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: And I admire that, too.
- 35:55SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's part of your dream team that you've discussed.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: No, he's it.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: He's a D.C.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, what a great,
- 36:03SPEAKER_00: what a great day as a rookie NFL beat reporter being in Detroit and seeing
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: the team carrying Jim Schwartz off the field.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: And then I remember interviewing him the next week,
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: you know, I got, it was like one-on-one asking him about it.
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: And he was kind of like, I'm not really sure.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: I don't even know what you're talking about.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: It was just another game.
- 36:22SPEAKER_01: And I was just like, I was like, it was, it was a, that was, it was a little strange.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: I'm not going to lie.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: The, the whole, That was a strange day in general.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: That was the Kyle Orton coming out party.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: A lot of things.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: I'm going back through it right now.
- 36:37SPEAKER_01: Strange years.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: There was part of me that thought we were going to win the Super Bowl that day.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: I'm not going to lie.
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: I think you did.
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: I think Jim thought you did.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: I'm like, this might actually work.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: This shit might actually work with Kyle Orton.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: And then he just got beat to hell.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: At the bottom line, he got beat to hell.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: That's who you need to get on the show,
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: Kyle Orton.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: The elusive Kyle Orton.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: I'd pay money for that episode.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: With my eighth pick, I'm taking Kyle Orton.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: No, I'm not taking it.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: Puts up numbers.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: He does.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: Jordan Love.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: Jordan Love.
- 37:17SPEAKER_03: Gotta do it here.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: I just want.
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: We planted our flag in the dirt early at Go Long.
- 37:24SPEAKER_03: Way back when in 2020, early 2021, after discussing David Yost, C.O.C.
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: Mariner, everybody out there at Utah State told us the Mahomesian qualities are there.
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: He can create.
- 37:40SPEAKER_03: And just the value of just shit going haywire and needing to make something happen.
- 37:47SPEAKER_03: That last year at Utah State,
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: I think this really did appeal to Brian Gutekunst and even Matt LaFleur,
- 37:52SPEAKER_03: the GM, he's making that pick.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: He's got the final say in Green Bay the way they have it set up.
- 37:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he threw picks.
- 38:00SPEAKER_03: There was a lot of mistakes.
- 38:02SPEAKER_03: But I feel like that year readied him for the NFL.
- 38:06SPEAKER_03: And he was able to sit for three years.
- 38:07SPEAKER_03: It's just different in Green Bay.
- 38:09SPEAKER_03: I mean, why more teams don't do this and have the trust of ownership to do this,
- 38:14SPEAKER_03: I'll never understand.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: Hey, he's got to step up.
- 38:17SPEAKER_03: Look, that was a long time ago.
- 38:20SPEAKER_03: He waited three years.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: Now he's been starting three years.
- 38:23SPEAKER_03: We've discussed it.
- 38:24SPEAKER_03: It's not ideal at times around him, but by the end of last season, right?
- 38:29SPEAKER_03: Micah Parsons, it's not just him who's down, but Josh Jacobs is hardly himself.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: Tucker Craft is nowhere to be found.
- 38:35SPEAKER_03: He's gone.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: They're missing a lot of pieces.
- 38:39SPEAKER_03: Jordan Love was incredible in that playoff game.
- 38:41SPEAKER_03: Went 300 yards, three touchdowns, no picks on the road.
- 38:44SPEAKER_03: You should win that game if you're a quarterback.
- 38:47SPEAKER_03: Uh, Even then, like a little bit of an overthrow to Luke Musgrave up that left sideline.
- 38:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think if he just puts it into play, I should say, it's a catch or it's a DPI.
- 39:01SPEAKER_03: Go to the end of the first half, the throw to Christian Watson, that could have been 28-3.
- 39:05SPEAKER_03: But also, you know what play sticks with me from that game?
- 39:10SPEAKER_03: He gets blasted.
- 39:12SPEAKER_03: Is it the second or third to last play?
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: The whole shot, deep middle to Christian Watson.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: Go back and rewatch it.
- 39:18SPEAKER_03: It's insane that he puts the ball where he does.
- 39:20SPEAKER_03: Taking that hit, bears defenders all over the place.
- 39:23SPEAKER_03: If Christian Watson lays out,
- 39:25SPEAKER_03: or at least puts two hands up,
- 39:27SPEAKER_03: we're discussing that play more than any play in the NFL.
- 39:32SPEAKER_03: It goes down in Packers lore.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: It's insane.
- 39:36SPEAKER_03: So that sticks with me when I make this pick.
- 39:38SPEAKER_03: I feel like the essential of Matthew Golden,
- 39:41SPEAKER_03: getting Tucker Kraft back, I think they're going to throw the ball more.
- 39:45SPEAKER_03: I think they're going to push the ball down the field a little bit more this year.
- 39:49SPEAKER_03: In spots, right?
- 39:51SPEAKER_03: Matt LaFleur has to figure out when to be aggressive and when maybe to get that run
- 39:55SPEAKER_03: in short to intermediate game going.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: I think it's a big year for Jordan Love.
- 40:01SPEAKER_03: Statistically, does it lead to wins?
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: Does it lead to getting to a Super Bowl?
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: We'll see.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: I think statistically,
- 40:08SPEAKER_03: fourth year as a starter, he turns a corner and becomes a legitimate player.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: Top ten, potentially top five quarterback.
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, go
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: ahead, Matt.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: I've always been, you know, pretty big fan of the game.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: And I think he,
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: for all the reasons you outlined,
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: another guy that with the athleticism,
- 40:34SPEAKER_00: like I think just a solid bet to be somewhere in that.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: Five to eight range at the end of the year.
- 40:41SPEAKER_00: I think probably on all of our lists would have been one of the next couple
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: of picks here, no matter what.
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: Ty's sticking to his theme.
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: If he wrote about a guy, he's going to pick him.
- 40:51SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: You're damn right.
- 40:54SPEAKER_00: He's got Drake May.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: He's got...
- 40:57SPEAKER_03: Hey, I didn't take Caleb Williams.
- 40:59SPEAKER_03: I wrote about him.
- 41:00SPEAKER_03: Draft's not over.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: In a certain way, and the draft is not over.
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: You've got to recover.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: You've got to recover.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: You've got to push back against the narrative.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: Hey.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: Throw people off.
- 41:12SPEAKER_03: I'll consider him on the next selection.
- 41:15SPEAKER_03: With my fourth pick, he'll be under consideration.
- 41:20SPEAKER_02: I like it.
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 41:23Well.
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: Jim.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: It's over, guys.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: I'm looking up that menu right now at Reserve Steakhouse.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: I will go ahead and select Bo Nix and Dak Prescott.
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: Thank you very much for two of the most loaded offenses in the league with coaching
- 41:49SPEAKER_01: and everything.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: I just love that Dallas offense is going to be off the charts.
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: And then I know what Coach Payton does.
- 41:57SPEAKER_01: He closes his eyes.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: His offenses are the same every year.
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: They don't put the ball over.
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: The quarterback will be set up for success.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: The rating will be good.
- 42:07SPEAKER_01: Two things you can
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: count on.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: If Ty wrote about a guy, he's going to pick him.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: And Jim Moniz is going to bank on Sean Payton, man.
- 42:15SPEAKER_00: That Super Bowl ring.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: If I tell you daily how I think about that Super Bowl, that's okay.
- 42:22SPEAKER_00: It's a good bet to make.
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: Dak Prescott, too,
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: I think is actually the I believe I had Dak Prescott last time,
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: and I believe I got him ridiculously late because he is the guy in
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: the hot take world that there's all sorts of feelings about Dak Prescott.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: But these stats like QBR and PFF, all these numbers love him.
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: So you don't have to love the whole package or believe that he's
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: a Super Bowl winning quarterback or any of that.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: Because the numbers really like this guy.
- 42:59SPEAKER_00: So I feel like that is a guy that is going to probably,
- 43:03SPEAKER_00: of everybody picked so far,
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: probably has the best chance to outperform his draft position.
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: Pretty shrewd pick by Jim Monas here.
- 43:11SPEAKER_00: I just had a fist bump with my
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: director of college scouting.
- 43:17SPEAKER_03: You don't see your other scouts that you had sequestered down the hallway in their offices.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: They're mother effing these picks.
- 43:27SPEAKER_03: They're not happy with these selections.
- 43:29SPEAKER_03: They wish that you take their work into account.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: That is false.
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: Nobody does that until you get outside of the building.
- 43:36SPEAKER_01: You know that you're wrong.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: That's when you talk behind everybody's back.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: Bo Nix is an interesting one.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: I believe in the offense.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: I'm going off the rating.
- 43:47SPEAKER_03: The record was great last year, but they were kind of like the Bears of the AFC too.
- 43:51SPEAKER_03: They won a lot of funky games where he'd kind of be blah for three quarters and
- 43:57SPEAKER_03: then turn it on to the fourth.
- 43:59SPEAKER_01: I'm going to say the same thing I say about Caleb,
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: Drake May, all these, Jaden Daniels in Washington.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: They've barely played in the NFL.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: They have barely played yet.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: And we have already kind of like,
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: What they have done,
- 44:13SPEAKER_01: what they have accomplished already is seriously – these guys,
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: that's why I keep saying this league to me seems like it's about to erupt because
- 44:22SPEAKER_01: of – there's a lot of really, really impressive quarterbacks in my opinion.
- 44:26SPEAKER_01: I read something where John Gruden says he thinks the play is eroding or whatever.
- 44:32SPEAKER_01: I disagree.
- 44:32SPEAKER_01: I think these quarterbacks are outstanding.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: I think the game is going to be fun to watch.
- 44:37SPEAKER_00: Bo Nix was nails in the playoffs, man.
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: He was, I was impressed because
- 44:43SPEAKER_00: was it the year earlier that the Bills had played them in
- 44:46SPEAKER_00: the playoffs as well?
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: And I remember just thinking like.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: He wasn't ready.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: He made some throws in that game that I was like, okay,
- 44:53SPEAKER_00: but you just had the feeling the whole day like Bills are going to win this game.
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: Like there's no way that Bo Nix is going to be able to hang for four quarters.
- 45:00SPEAKER_00: Not yet.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: He just wasn't ready to do it.
- 45:02SPEAKER_00: And having not watched him super closely throughout the regular season when
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: that matchup You know, it was unfolding.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: I just kept thinking, man, this guy is nails in big moments.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: And again,
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: probably won't be,
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: won't always show up in the,
- 45:18SPEAKER_00: how we're measuring this thing,
- 45:19SPEAKER_00: but he had, he showed me some stuff in the, in those big games.
- 45:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, he drastically outplayed my pick,
- 45:29SPEAKER_03: Jordan Love late in the season,
- 45:32SPEAKER_03: uh, 23-34 for 302 and four touchdowns at home against Green Bay late in the year.
- 45:38SPEAKER_03: That was awesome stuff from Bo Nix.
- 45:40SPEAKER_03: And he can throw it deep.
- 45:41SPEAKER_03: And now you give him Jalen Waddell.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: There it is.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: And that's what I'm talking about with why I love Sean Payton.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: That's that I'm choking you out right now.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: I have a window with Bo Nix.
- 45:53SPEAKER_01: I have a window with this defense.
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: I have a window with this team.
- 45:56SPEAKER_01: Give me this ridiculous playmaker that every D coordinator is going to know
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: where he is on the field.
- 46:01SPEAKER_01: That's who's keeping people up at night.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: Coach Payton already knows he'll have the quarterback right.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: He needs to keep that other coordinator guessing.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: And Waddle does that.
- 46:13SPEAKER_03: I am glad, though, that you left.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: Another quarterback from that class on the board, Jaden Daniels,
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: Washington Commanders.
- 46:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he was on mine.
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: I feel like he falls this far because of his frame and the injuries.
- 46:32SPEAKER_03: And look,
- 46:32SPEAKER_03: this is a coaching staff that will be,
- 46:35SPEAKER_03: I should say a head coach in year three who has to win.
- 46:41SPEAKER_03: They burned through the coordinators already.
- 46:43SPEAKER_03: It's David Blau is OC now.
- 46:46SPEAKER_03: I feel like they'll...
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: I don't think...
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: It's not going to be 5-12.
- 46:51SPEAKER_03: It's not going to be 6-11.
- 46:52SPEAKER_03: I think the commanders are going to be competitive this year.
- 46:55SPEAKER_03: I think the reason is Jay Daniels.
- 46:57SPEAKER_03: We're kind of forgetting how good he was as a rookie.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: The point I made earlier and why I selected Drake May on things being hard for him
- 47:05SPEAKER_03: on purpose so he's built to last, that's the unknown now.
- 47:08SPEAKER_03: Jay Daniels came in with Cliff Kingsbury and they were really able to use his legs.
- 47:14SPEAKER_03: He's got a big arm too.
- 47:17SPEAKER_03: It'll be interesting to see what that offense looks like with David Blau.
- 47:20SPEAKER_03: It was a surprise hire.
- 47:23SPEAKER_03: You have to take advantage of what he does best, though, right?
- 47:26SPEAKER_03: Where do you stand on that, Jim?
- 47:27SPEAKER_03: Because we've talked about Jalen Hurts.
- 47:30SPEAKER_03: Just run him.
- 47:31SPEAKER_03: That's what he does well.
- 47:32SPEAKER_03: Just use him in that way.
- 47:34SPEAKER_03: As much as I love these coaches and coordinators asking these quarterbacks to handle
- 47:39SPEAKER_03: a lot and run their offense for the longevity of that quarterback to have success
- 47:43SPEAKER_03: in year 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,
- 47:47SPEAKER_03: Same time, you look at what Jane Daniels can do.
- 47:49SPEAKER_03: It's like, man, accentuate that while you can now.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: If you're David Blowling, how would you use him?
- 47:57SPEAKER_03: Because I don't know.
- 47:58SPEAKER_03: I've got no clue what this offense is going to look like.
- 48:01SPEAKER_03: All I know is that Jane Daniels was fun as hell to watch.
- 48:05SPEAKER_03: He works hard.
- 48:05SPEAKER_03: He's the first person in that building.
- 48:07SPEAKER_03: He's doing the virtual reality stuff back to his LSU days.
- 48:13SPEAKER_03: How would you use him if you're creating an offense?
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: It's funny when you break down offenses,
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: if you ever do a study and actually go back and watch a game and say, okay,
- 48:22SPEAKER_01: was that play because of the play call or because the quarterback and receiver,
- 48:27SPEAKER_01: whoever tight end made a play because of a breakdown.
- 48:31SPEAKER_01: And that's what I'm trying to say.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: You cannot control.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: And you can't control playmakers.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: So Jaden Daniels, what makes him special is the legs.
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: It is a nightmare to defend him.
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: I'm 100% with you.
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: I almost took him with one of my last picks.
- 48:46SPEAKER_01: He was in the mix because he is that talented.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: I believe in him.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: Dan Quinn is on the hot seat, to your point.
- 48:55SPEAKER_01: I think they have to make the playoffs.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: You don't mess around with this quarterback.
- 48:59SPEAKER_01: He's legit.
- 49:00SPEAKER_01: So the expectation should be playoffs and then make your run.
- 49:04SPEAKER_01: But I can't wait to watch him again.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: Once again, to my point, I think the league's loaded right now with quarterbacks.
- 49:11SPEAKER_03: So you let him go.
- 49:12SPEAKER_01: You let him go.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: You play football.
- 49:14SPEAKER_03: RPOs, boots, whatever it takes to get him
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: one-on-one with
- 49:18SPEAKER_03: the linebacker.
- 49:20SPEAKER_01: Why you drafted him.
- 49:21SPEAKER_01: Exactly right.
- 49:21SPEAKER_01: What are his strengths?
- 49:22SPEAKER_01: Let's use it.
- 49:23SPEAKER_01: Enough.
- 49:24SPEAKER_01: I say it to this day.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: Cam Newton got beat to hell.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: They got to the Super Bowl.
- 49:29SPEAKER_01: You got to let those guys just go and see where it takes you.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: And then Once it runs out,
- 49:34SPEAKER_01: I hate to say it,
- 49:35SPEAKER_01: if it gets beat up or if it's not working, then that's you to self-scout.
- 49:39SPEAKER_01: But while he is fresh, I don't care if he's coming off injury.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: You know what makes him special.
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: Let him be.
- 49:46SPEAKER_03: We were texting before starting the pod, Matt,
- 49:50SPEAKER_03: and Jim offered his all-time top 10 quarterbacks,
- 49:55SPEAKER_03: and a name you had in there was Mike Vick.
- 49:59SPEAKER_03: That is such a great what-if.
- 50:02SPEAKER_03: Those early Atlanta Falcons days, if he had a coach who just took advantage
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: of that speed.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: Nobody knew what to do.
- 50:10SPEAKER_03: Nobody knew what to do.
- 50:11SPEAKER_03: Nobody had a clue.
- 50:13SPEAKER_03: They tried to run a West Coast offense because that's what you had to do.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: Because the same with him, he can really throw the football.
- 50:20SPEAKER_01: His release and accuracy is insane.
- 50:23SPEAKER_01: It's so natural and pretty.
- 50:24SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, he can run any offense.
- 50:27SPEAKER_01: Andy Reid proved it with him.
- 50:29SPEAKER_01: Out of jail.
- 50:30SPEAKER_01: That's how natural he is.
- 50:33SPEAKER_01: Learned Andy Reid's offense and was lighting people up.
- 50:36SPEAKER_01: The talent was... You said it great, Tyler.
- 50:39SPEAKER_01: I'm glad you liked that one.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: What could have been with all the right circumstances, but wow.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: There's no way you can't... That's never been seen.
- 50:49SPEAKER_02: Incredible to watch.
- 50:51SPEAKER_01: Incredible to watch.
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: He beat Lambeau in Lambeau.
- 50:54SPEAKER_00: He won in Lambeau.
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: That had to have been...
- 50:59SPEAKER_00: Like a top five game that just sticks in my brain as a football fan.
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: Growing up, just thinking, man, what is going to become of this guy?
- 51:12SPEAKER_00: He's doing this in Lambeau.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: Obviously, things went off the rails a little bit, but man, he was incredible.
- 51:24SPEAKER_03: So that's right.
- 51:25SPEAKER_03: Jim Mora Jr. is the head coach.
- 51:29SPEAKER_03: By that 0-4 season,
- 51:31SPEAKER_03: so a couple years after the Lambeau win,
- 51:32SPEAKER_03: that's when they were 11-5,
- 51:34SPEAKER_03: blew out the Rams,
- 51:36SPEAKER_03: 47-17 in the divisional round, played the Eagles in the NFC Championship game.
- 51:40SPEAKER_03: Greg Knapp is his offensive coordinator,
- 51:45SPEAKER_03: and he threw for barely over 2,000 yards,
- 51:50SPEAKER_01: 14 touchdowns, running for 9-0-2.
- 51:53SPEAKER_03: That's where they had Warwick Dunn, TJ Duckett, I don't know.
- 51:56SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't know who the coach would have been, who the play caller would have been.
- 52:00SPEAKER_03: Who would have been perfect for Mike Vick at the peak of his powers early in
- 52:03SPEAKER_03: that Falcons career?
- 52:05SPEAKER_03: You know, and also if he's not getting into dogfighting, that probably would have helped too.
- 52:11SPEAKER_01: So why can't he be perfect with Andy Reid from start to finish?
- 52:15SPEAKER_00: I was thinking Andy, I mean, it worked so well.
- 52:17SPEAKER_01: He took McNabb from, McNabb didn't know that offense.
- 52:20SPEAKER_01: Vick didn't know it in jail.
- 52:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, he might have a little familiarity from Atlanta, but.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: I'm just going with the safe call with Reed.
- 52:27SPEAKER_01: It's boring, I guess.
- 52:29SPEAKER_03: That's the crime of the NFL draft.
- 52:31SPEAKER_03: Not throwing Greg Roman there?
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: There's a list of – I mean,
- 52:38SPEAKER_00: he made it work with a couple of similarly athletic quarterbacks in various spots.
- 52:48SPEAKER_00: But, no, Andy Reed was the first guy that came to mind for me.
- 52:53SPEAKER_03: That's what stinks about the draft, though,
- 52:55SPEAKER_03: is a transcendent talent comes around,
- 52:59SPEAKER_03: and they're going to go first overall,
- 53:00SPEAKER_03: and they're probably going to go to a team with a coach and a fit that isn't
- 53:06SPEAKER_03: the best.
- 53:07SPEAKER_01: You just said it.
- 53:08SPEAKER_01: The best doctors at Harvard don't have to go to the worst hospital right out of,
- 53:12SPEAKER_01: you know, it's like, there's a reason.
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: If you get rewarded for being the best of the best,
- 53:17SPEAKER_01: it's like,
- 53:19SPEAKER_01: But well, hey, the pay, it's all compensated fairly wherever you get picked.
- 53:23SPEAKER_01: But bottom line,
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: when you do those top 10,
- 53:26SPEAKER_01: everybody's Tyler,
- 53:27SPEAKER_01: you had a great line about everybody's doing the rankings top 10
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: on everybody's doing rankings on steroids right now.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: I thought that was hilarious because it is it's become obsessive with me and some of
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: the guys I worked with in the NFL about
- 53:38SPEAKER_01: because now YouTube has everything you can't hide anymore.
- 53:41SPEAKER_01: We can watch full games just like our eyes can watch it like we evaluate tape.
- 53:46SPEAKER_01: And that's how I do this list now, like all these.
- 53:49SPEAKER_01: It's just how I would evaluate them drafting them.
- 53:51SPEAKER_01: It's not a knock on Joe Montana.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: It's not a knock on certain guys.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: It's just those things have to line up for certain guys like that.
- 53:59SPEAKER_01: These guys are just insane talents.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: That's all.
- 54:03SPEAKER_00: I think the league is a bit better about a Michael Vick if he was drafted in 2022 or 2023.
- 54:11SPEAKER_00: I think the league is better at saying, all right, we're getting this guy.
- 54:17SPEAKER_00: We're going to change some things to fit this guy instead of saying,
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: all right, Michael Vick, now I see all these things you can do, but.
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: Really going to need you to throw this five yard curl on time.
- 54:29SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm going to need to see that five step drop.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: It's got to be out.
- 54:33SPEAKER_00: You know, I think the things have evolved.
- 54:35SPEAKER_00: Teams are a little more open minded.
- 54:37SPEAKER_00: So, you know, you're at the top of the draft.
- 54:40SPEAKER_00: You're probably not going to the most functional organization, but sometimes you are getting.
- 54:45SPEAKER_00: A new coach, maybe, because the season before didn't go well.
- 54:47SPEAKER_00: A coach that has thought through a plan of how to use you,
- 54:52SPEAKER_00: and I feel like that's all you can really ask for at that point.
- 54:56SPEAKER_00: There's incredible parity in the league year to year,
- 55:00SPEAKER_00: so even the worst teams that seem like the worst situations, it can change quick.
- 55:09SPEAKER_01: There's one in the NFL right now.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: There's a quarterback right now we haven't talked about
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: that is fitting some things you just talked about,
- 55:16SPEAKER_01: Matt, about going to a horrible team and turning them around quickly.
- 55:21SPEAKER_00: Still out there.
- 55:25SPEAKER_00: Am I on the board here?
- 55:27SPEAKER_00: I think I'm on the clock here.
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: I'm not on the board, certainly.
- 55:32SPEAKER_00: I would not have made a good quarterback.
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: We're in a weird spot,
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: I feel like,
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: in this draft where there's a lot of guys that are kind of clustered together and...
- 55:46SPEAKER_00: It could go in a lot of different directions.
- 55:47SPEAKER_00: It could decide the draft in a lot of ways where we're at.
- 55:51SPEAKER_00: My first guy I'm taking is pretty easy, Justin Herbert.
- 55:57SPEAKER_00: Pretty surprised that he's hung around.
- 56:02SPEAKER_00: Look, he was 13th in QBR last year,
- 56:05SPEAKER_00: so he had a good year but still wasn't fully reflected in In QBR,
- 56:10SPEAKER_00: but I like where that team is heading.
- 56:12SPEAKER_00: I like where his career is heading,
- 56:14SPEAKER_00: more importantly,
- 56:15SPEAKER_00: like betting pretty big on the upside,
- 56:20SPEAKER_00: that there's still some untapped potential with this guy.
- 56:24SPEAKER_00: You talk about a coach believing in a guy.
- 56:27SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of belief out there.
- 56:29SPEAKER_00: I believe they've thrown out some Hall of Fame talk with this guy.
- 56:35SPEAKER_00: The talent is there.
- 56:38SPEAKER_00: I'll be curious to see if he can put it all together.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: We see him really high.
- 56:45SPEAKER_00: On all the stats,
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: like we know he can,
- 56:48SPEAKER_00: he's going to have those weeks where he puts up huge numbers,
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: but can he do it for the whole season?
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: Can he get it done in the playoffs?
- 56:56SPEAKER_00: All those things,
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: but it feels like an easy bet for me to make here with my,
- 57:00SPEAKER_00: was that my fourth quarterback?
- 57:03SPEAKER_00: So now I have Allen.
- 57:05SPEAKER_00: Lamar, Mahomes, Herbert, loading up on the AFC.
- 57:10SPEAKER_00: This second pick is pretty tough.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: There's a couple guys I'm back and forth on,
- 57:15SPEAKER_00: and I'm not going to say who they are because you guys might not pick the other guy.
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: But I'm going to go with Brock Purdy.
- 57:26SPEAKER_02: Hmm.
- 57:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I like your picks, Matt.
- 57:31SPEAKER_00: I like both your picks.
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: Sort of similar to the Dak Prescott conversation of the advanced stats, love this guy.
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: That coach is putting up numbers.
- 57:43SPEAKER_00: Great environment, you know, pretty high floor.
- 57:46SPEAKER_00: There's other guys in this tier who I could bet on, but,
- 57:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, Brock Purdy last year, there was all sorts of injuries in San Francisco.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: He was out for a while, so that skews, I think, his numbers a little bit.
- 57:58SPEAKER_00: Just knowing that it was a smaller sample size,
- 58:00SPEAKER_00: but he had the second best QBR in the NFL last year,
- 58:05SPEAKER_00: but maybe the better number to support this pick, Mack Jones had the 10th best QBR.
- 58:12SPEAKER_00: So to Monus' point about the offense, right,
- 58:15SPEAKER_00: if Purdy just stays healthy for the whole season,
- 58:19SPEAKER_00: you're looking at a pretty high,
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: almost a guaranteed top 10 QBR guy, just based on the offense.
- 58:26SPEAKER_00: And so...
- 58:28SPEAKER_00: I like having that kind of dart.
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: a couple different dart throws here with Herbert and Purdy,
- 58:33SPEAKER_01: but I'm feeling pretty good about what I got.
- 58:36SPEAKER_01: I like those a lot.
- 58:39SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: Purdy's fascinating.
- 58:43SPEAKER_01: I was talking about him the other day, Tyler, with Collar in Minnesota on a pod.
- 58:49SPEAKER_01: And it's funny.
- 58:50SPEAKER_01: He gets this right away.
- 58:52SPEAKER_01: Collar was talking about Purdy being the The smart system quarterback type,
- 58:58SPEAKER_01: I said, no, no, no, he's not.
- 59:00SPEAKER_01: He's actually a high interception rate.
- 59:02SPEAKER_01: He takes a lot of chances because he's actually a very talented athlete
- 59:06SPEAKER_01: that moves around and tries to make plays because he is that good.
- 59:09SPEAKER_01: Don't sleep on this guy's physical talent.
- 59:11SPEAKER_01: He is, to me, Matt, I think he is a top 10.
- 59:15SPEAKER_01: Everybody has their list in the league, all that.
- 59:17SPEAKER_01: He fits.
- 59:18SPEAKER_01: He and the quarterback and the head coach match exactly what you just said.
- 59:22SPEAKER_01: What I love about Shanahan, Purdy gets hurt.
- 59:25SPEAKER_01: Plug in the backup.
- 59:26SPEAKER_01: Guess what?
- 59:27SPEAKER_01: He picks it up.
- 59:28SPEAKER_01: Look at all those guys that go through McVeigh and Shanahan.
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: They stop in.
- 59:31SPEAKER_01: It's almost like going to a rehab center for a quarter.
- 59:34SPEAKER_01: Hey, go in there for a year.
- 59:35SPEAKER_01: Mayfield, Darnold, boom, get in, get out.
- 59:38SPEAKER_01: Go rehab, go out.
- 59:39SPEAKER_01: These guys are unbelievable, masterful teachers of offense, McVeigh and Shanahan.
- 59:45SPEAKER_00: Makes it easier to bet on them, right?
- 59:46SPEAKER_00: Bet on the quarterbacks.
- 59:47SPEAKER_00: If Mac Jones can have a top 10 QBR season,
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: and again,
- 59:51SPEAKER_00: not a full season's worth of work,
- 59:53SPEAKER_00: but if he can do that,
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: then Purdy is absolutely, to me,
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_00: a guy that can be a top 10 guy,
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: and we're sitting here in the top of the fifth round,
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_00: taking him off the board, feeling pretty good about that.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's averaging 300, 400 rushing yards, and Four touchdowns.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_03: You're right.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_03: He's got some movement, some mobility.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_03: One of my favorite plays out of the position in general last season was
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_03: that crazy shootout against the Bears where he was like a Frogger character.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_03: Toward the left sideline,
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_03: I want to say,
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_03: he went to the side,
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_03: went up, went backward, to the side, went up, and placed a touchdown.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_03: Blooped it over a linebacker's head.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he's great.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_03: I love that pick.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_03: You mentioned...
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_03: Throws at the dartboard, Mr. Fairburn.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_03: I'm going to select one Jackson dart at quarterback with this pick.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_03: I think it's my pick, right?
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_03: I'm not jumping the gun.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_00: Ballsy.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_03: You know, we're getting some health risk, all of us, to some extent.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_03: We'll see if they can figure that out because,
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_03: man, does anybody know how many concussions he had last year?
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_03: Only Jackson dart probably knows that.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_03: That's a concern.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_03: Malik Nabors' health, a concern.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_03: A little birdie told me the other day that Odell Beckham Jr. looks really good
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_00: in practice.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_03: For what it's worth,
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_03: I'm not saying the Giants are relying on Odell,
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_03: but I kind of wrote him off a half decade ago.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_03: So they've got a ton of receivers out there, young and old in camp like that.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_03: And I love the John Harbaugh hire.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_03: Here's what John Harbaugh had to say.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_03: I think this was on Dominique Foxworth, his podcast.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_03: Quote, but now we can also get in the gun.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_03: We can get in the pistol.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_03: We can run RPOs.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_03: We can run quarterback driven runs with Jackson Dart.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_03: A lot of the stuff that we did in Baltimore with Lamar as well.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_03: So there you go.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_03: Jackson Dart will be as productive as Lamar Jackson with the New York Giants.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_03: So I'm basically getting Lamar late in the draft here, only with the Giants.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: Truly, truly a masterful spin on Jackson Dart and Harbaugh.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_01: Well done.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_03: Hey, he's fun to watch, though.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_03: He is.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_01: He is.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_01: Agreed.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_03: I mean, look what he had.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_03: Everybody was hurt last year, too, when he was making plays.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_03: He's got a feel for the pocket.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_01: Matt, I want you to go after this, your take on Dart.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_01: I want to just throw this out there, and I want you guys to go with Dart and Harbaugh.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_01: But believe it or not, I don't believe in this Giants team.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_01: And this is a team I don't think is going to have a good season.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_01: And I'll just leave it at that.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_01: And Matt, I want you to talk where you're at with Dart.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: Dart, I mean,
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_00: he was definitely fun to watch last year,
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_00: exceeded my expectations in terms of there was something about
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_00: the way Brian Dable believed in him before the draft that made me think, OK,
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_00: maybe there's something here because Dable had that same conviction
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_00: about Josh Allen.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_00: And so you just kind of think, you don't want to give him too much credit for that.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_00: But.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_00: I also think Dable's pretty sharp,
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_00: and it's like if he sees something in this guy, is there something there?
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_00: This is just another one of those picks for me that I...
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_00: It was the temptation I had at the Purdy pick, right?
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_00: You kind of want to...
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_00: You kind of want to add some flavor to your draft, right?
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_00: You kind of want to be like, I'm sticking my neck out there.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_00: This is a Tyler Dunne draft tendency I've noticed.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_00: He's trying to be early on a guy.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_00: And my philosophy is kind of a little bit different,
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_00: where I'm just going to take the steady performers.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_00: I'm going to kind of raise my floor, but I mean...
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_00: Dart's got the rushing that definitely could help him.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_00: Where did he finish in QBR last year?
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_00: He was 17th, so it's not wildly off the board here, but lower on my board.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_00: I didn't come into today.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_00: I didn't sit down in my chair thinking I was ever even going to consider him,
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_00: frankly, because we make 18 picks.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_00: I don't even know if he'd be in my top 18.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_03: That's why we bring in the hockey guys.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_03: That's why we do it.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_03: Hey, I'm pulling up his numbers too.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_03: He had more rushing production than I even remembered.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_03: And that's the...
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and the throwing can get wild.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_01: That's what I was going to say.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_01: He needs a lot of developing.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_01: Harbaugh, honestly, we know his resume is what it is.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_01: So it's not that pairing that scares me.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_01: Not Harbaugh necessarily.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_01: It's just Dart himself.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_01: That division's real.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_01: And it's like he's the worst quarterback to me in that division.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_00: Do you like Jalen Hurts?
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_00: I think he's significantly the worst quarterback.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_01: And I would agree with Matt on that.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_03: You guys are just dumping all over this pick.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_03: This is brutal.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_00: It goes back to what we talked about at the beginning.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_00: Like if we're picking a team for the next 10 years, do I change my stance on Dart?
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_00: Maybe, maybe not.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_00: But that's not what we're doing, right?
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_00: And like taking a guy in year two with the injury and the volatility,
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_00: like I'm just looking at – look, I don't want to be –
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_00: Treating Jim Monas to a big steak dinner, you know?
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_00: So I'm trying to raise my floor here.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_00: Menu looks good.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_00: And trying to box him out.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_00: So I don't have as risky of picks.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_00: This is a risky pick, frankly.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_00: And I think to Jim's point, it's almost like a lot.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_00: He has a lot of developing to do.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_00: And there's a lot.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_00: It's like kind of this narrow.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_00: A lot of different outcomes need to come true for him to really hit.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_00: And that relies on different guys around him staying healthy,
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_00: him staying healthy, him picking up this new scheme.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_00: The team probably has to play pretty well for the environment to be right,
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_00: for him to put up the numbers.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_00: Look, it's good to mix in some bad picks to give us something else to talk about here.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_00: So I like it.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_03: Oh, I can't wait to clip this in a few months.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_03: We'll let the season play out, but the season will play out.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_03: Jackson Dart is just going to be electrifying.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_03: Basically what you saw as a rookie, creating, play in and play out, improvising.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_03: Celebrating Cam Scadaboo in the end zone.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_03: Only now he's got talent around him, at least right now, while they're healthy.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_03: And hey, give me the upside.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_03: Give me the playmaking.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_03: I saw a lot there with a lot of nonsense going on around him.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_03: Love Brian Dable.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_03: I love that belief in him.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_03: He did kind of act like Jackson Dart was his son on the sideline.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_03: I thought he was just going to give him a big old kiss a few times last year.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_03: But it kind of got strange, didn't it?
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_03: I didn't understand some of the game management,
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_03: some of the decisions when he was so bold in year one,
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_03: taking the chances he did to win Coach of the Year.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_03: And then also, I think what probably spelled the end of Dable is the concussion stuff, right?
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_03: Putting him out there, putting him at risk.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_03: Then you had the tent gate, whatever was going on there.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_03: That's an unknown for me, is what's the coaching going to be like at the quarterback position?
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_03: I like the staff, and I think that Matt Nagy was kind of dealt a not ideal hand in Chicago.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_03: Let's see, right?
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_03: Like, Jim, you brought him up a few times in Kansas City.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_03: Like, what was he doing in Kansas City?
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_03: I don't really know.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_03: Do we really know?
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_03: So he'll be the OC.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_03: But I just saw enough wow plays out of Jackson Dart as a rookie to suggest.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_03: Give him a top five wide receiver, Malik Nabors.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_03: They drafted a lineman in the top ten.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_03: Got to think that helps them stay upright to an extent.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_03: Andrew Thomas is healthy.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_03: Cam Scadabo comes back.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_03: The defense should be good.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_03: The pass rushers could be some of the best in the NFL.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_03: Not declaring the Giants Super Bowl champs here, but I disagree with my co-host.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_03: I think the Giants are going to be competitive.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_03: Have I been wrong on that before?
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_03: Yes, I have been.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_01: Well, that sounds like an extra steak dinner on the side bet, Tyler, for you and I.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_03: Let's do it.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_03: What's your win count for the Giants?
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_01: Well, let's just check DraftKings.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_01: I believe it's five.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_01: Okay, who's up?
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_01: Am I up with two?
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_03: You're up with two.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_03: Unless I'll do another bet.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_03: Let's throw it out there.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, hold on.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_01: Let me get my two picks in quick.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_03: Five and a half?
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_03: Put it at five and a half.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_01: Let's look what it is.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_01: Let's just see it.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_01: Whatever it is.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_01: Let's just do this.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_01: Whatever it is right now.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_01: We're anti-gambling at Go
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_03: Long, Jim.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_03: We don't have to look at the ass.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_03: Matt's looking it up right now.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_01: I'll make the picks.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_01: Seven and a half.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_01: Seven and a half.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_01: Seven and a half.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I got under on that.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_01: Is that good?
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_01: I'll take you over.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_01: We'll do the same.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_01: You pick the restaurant, whoever loses.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_01: Same thing.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_01: Same thing.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_01: The two picks.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_01: Here we go.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_01: Sam Darnold and my fun one, Cam Ward.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_01: Darnold is,
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_01: I don't know if there's a more underappreciated quarterback,
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_01: what he does every year,
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_01: just the last couple of years,
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_01: jumping in and out of organizations and taking them to heights that you Desire in
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_01: the NFL, and you worked so hard for it in these front offices to build and find.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_01: And there he is just jumping around teams.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_01: And finally, it happened.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_01: And that Super Bowl was no fluke.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_01: And I think it's just going to get better for him.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_01: I think he has all the physical ability.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_01: I like that he pairs up well.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_01: He seems to be comfortable with the coaching there.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_01: We know the talent.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_01: I just don't see any reason he doesn't always be a consistent,
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_01: high-level QBR-type quarterback for sure.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_01: And in Ward and Dable, that thing is going to be one of the most fun, in my opinion.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_01: Get ready to watch that offense with this quarterback.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_01: He is that ridiculously talented.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_00: Can't wait to see those personalities.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_00: That's a spicy one.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_00: You guys are mixing in some...
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_00: Some sizzle in the late rounds.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_00: 28th in QBR last year for Cam Ward.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_00: But Dayball changes the picture, for sure.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, and, you know, young kid.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_00: Look, betting on these young guys, I think Jim probably feels pretty good about what he's got.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_00: You know, you've got to feel good about the five to
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_00: roll the dice on a sixth, right?
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_00: That's why I did it.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_01: Well done.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_01: I feel like Tyler,
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_01: I feel like you went,
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_01: you're probably more off the wall than I thought you would ever have been.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_01: I will say that.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_00: I knew he would be.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_00: He's just got that in him.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_01: And Matt's steady.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_01: Matt's steady single double on base all day.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_01: I feel that with your pace.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_01: You're just going to take the, wow, okay, I'll take another MVP.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_01: Oh, you guys told me he's generational.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_01: I'll take him too.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, you told me he's generational.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_01: I'll take him too.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_01: Makes sense.
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_03: Cam Ward and Brian Dable, I want to see how these two operate day to day.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_03: I was told that Cam Ward has a personality.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_03: I guess people are seeing it on Netflix, the quarterback show.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_03: But somebody who knows him said he's got a personality.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_03: He'll bark back.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_03: Because you know Dable, he'll be in your ear.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_03: He'll bring the fire.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_03: And Josh and him, they hit it off.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, you saw it up close too, Matt, where Josh can take it.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_01: He's that son of a farm hand growing up there in Fireball.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_03: Cam Ward, it could be a great thing, right?
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_03: They could be going at it and reach solutions, figure out what they have to figure out.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_03: But I think there'll be some healthy volatility,
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_03: maybe a little strong,
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_03: but I think they'll butt heads in the best possible ways in training camp.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_01: I like how you said that because I think those debates are,
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_01: however you say it, healthy coach, quarterback, OC.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_01: Those things are always can be very healthy because that means everybody's dialed in.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_01: I like the head coach in Tennessee.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_01: He and Sam Darnold are looking at each other in the mirror.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_01: I thought they both got a raw deal with the Jets.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_01: They are both qualified,
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_01: I think,
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_01: to be head coach in the NFL and franchise quarterback where he was drafted, Darnold.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_01: So here's his redemption now.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_01: He gets another talented.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_01: This quarterback is every bit,
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_01: in my opinion, ready to take them to that level with an OC in Dable.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_01: I like all the pairing.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_01: I think it takes that big year to jump.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_01: That's why I'm going with that.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_01: Matt, you're right.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_01: You deflated my little with facts.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_01: I forgot about facts sometimes.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_00: Well, This is one of those that I'm really—it'd be fun to see it work out.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_00: It's two guys kind of fighting for their career a little bit.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it's—that might be hyperbolic in terms of Cam Ward
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_00: because it's early, but we see this happen all the time in the NFL.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_00: Like, if it doesn't work in the first couple years, teams pivot.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_00: Teams figure out a different way to go,
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_00: and Dable is kind of fighting for his reputation,
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_00: and he's got the history of developing quarterbacks.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_00: It would be pretty cool to see it work.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_01: This is my final pick,
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_02: I believe.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_02: So you're done, Jim.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're done.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_02: Done.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_03: A lot of quarterbacks on the board.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_00: Somebody big is going to go undrafted, I feel like, just based on who's left.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_00: Darnold's a nice pick, by the way, just off and overlooked.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_00: Just look at how many.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_01: I know quarterbacks and wins.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_01: We don't do quarterbacks and wins, which I don't do.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_01: I hate that, but look what he's done the last couple of years.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_03: Baker Mayfield.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_03: We're going Baker Mayfield, sticking with that theme.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_03: Quarterbacks that we've written about, why not?
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_03: He was beat to hell last year.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_03: Had about three or four significant injuries.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_03: Granted, that's the case for Baker Mayfield just about every other year.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_03: Thinking back to 21 with the Browns when he wrecked his left shoulder
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_03: and he's playing through that in basically a contract year and
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_03: the Browns don't pay him.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_03: He moves on.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_03: Just a couple years ago, he had 41 touchdowns of the NFL.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_03: I think Emeka Ekbuka is a rising star.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_03: Todd Bowles gives me pause.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_03: Man, that Bills-Bucks game is stuck in my head where you can't stop Josh Allen.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_03: You can't stop the Bills.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_03: You've got a fourth down at midfield and you punt.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_03: But this has been a good offseason for the Buccaneers.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_03: To get your boy Reuben Bain at, what, 15?
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_03: Steele.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_03: Al-Quidi Muhammad, another pass rusher.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_03: They lose Mike Evans, but he was probably...
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_03: On borrowed time at the end.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_03: So you prepared for it if you're Tampa Bay.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_03: Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, Ekbuka, K-Dot in a tight end.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_03: There's enough there for a healthy Baker Mayfield to light it up again.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_03: That last month of the season, he was a shell of himself.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I'm happy to get Baker Mayfield my final pick.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_01: Real quick on Tampa.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_01: You mentioned Bowles at head coach.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_01: What if they have a not make playoff year?
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_01: Is he hot seat?
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_01: And do you know who I think replaces him?
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_01: Mr. Sean McDermott.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_01: Who's the GM in Tampa?
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_01: Jason Light, who all started way back in Philly together.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_01: Keep that one on the...
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_03: You'd go defensive coach to defensive coach.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_01: I just think Jason goes relationship more.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_01: In the style.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_00: I'm just throwing stuff out there.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_00: I feel like I haven't heard that connection made for McDermott when we think
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_00: about his next landing spot, but that one makes a lot of sense.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_01: I think Jason's one of the best GMs.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_01: I think they draft.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_01: I think they reload talent-wise every year.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_01: I think Baker's good enough as a starting quarterback in the NFL.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_01: He's a good starting quarterback.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_01: You just have to Everything else has to be pretty good,
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_01: but he's definitely tough, good, all the leadership.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_02: Baker fan.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_02: Here I am with the last pick of the draft.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_00: Really, I mean— Who's the last
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_00: MVP out there?
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, to set the table,
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_00: we've got, like I said, a big-time quarterback will end up going undrafted here.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_00: What might be interesting is to— Make a team of the undrafted guys after we're done
- 1:18:03SPEAKER_00: and see if the undrafted guys beat us.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_00: At the end of the year,
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_00: take the five best undrafted guys and see if they have the best team
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_00: because it's not out of the question.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_00: Jalen Hurts has not been picked.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_00: Caleb Williams has not been picked.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_00: Trevor Lawrence has not been picked.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_00: Daniel Jones, eighth in QBR last year, has not been picked.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_00: CJ Stroud has not been picked.
- 1:18:31SPEAKER_00: Malik Willis.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_00: Those are kind of the... Malik Willis, if you're...
- 1:18:39SPEAKER_00: If you're building the board of guys Tyler has written about,
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_00: then Malik Willis would be pretty high on your board.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_03: One and a half game, sample size.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_00: I'm actually surprised he wasn't picked since you so recently had a glowing quote
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_00: about him from a teammate.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_00: Aaron Rodgers is still out there.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_00: I believe I had him last time.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_00: I think I had him last time and I lucked out on our injury rules because I think
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_00: that was the year he tore his Achilles.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_00: Like two plays into the season.
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_00: This is a tough one for me.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_00: The whole time I thought I was going to take Jalen Hurts, but he ranked 20th in QBR last year.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_00: And I'm just trying to think about the metric we're using.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_00: My heart wants to take Trevor Lawrence because there's a lot going right down there.
- 1:19:29SPEAKER_00: System.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_00: All those things.
- 1:19:33SPEAKER_00: I'm going to go...
- 1:19:35SPEAKER_00: This is going against everything that my heart and brain are telling me to do,
- 1:19:40SPEAKER_00: and I'm going to follow the numbers because that's what I've done.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_00: CJ Stroud had a pretty bad year last year, and he finished 11th in QBR.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_00: And if we're using QBR— Good stat.
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_00: Good stat.
- 1:19:51SPEAKER_00: I didn't even know that yet.
- 1:19:52SPEAKER_00: I'm sitting here thinking, this guy has a pretty high floor.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_00: The protection should be a bit better.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_00: We saw a pretty good year from him.
- 1:20:01SPEAKER_00: We've seen some real flashes of this guy being special.
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_00: Again, this is one where if we were narrative,
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 1:20:09SPEAKER_00: hot taking it, building our boards, Stroud, I don't know if I believe in him.
- 1:20:14SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I have that conviction, but here we are in the last.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_00: I'm sticking to my theme of kind of these guys that I think have high floor.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_00: So like Hertz was my gut.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_00: Trevor Lawrence was my heart here.
- 1:20:26SPEAKER_00: Like it was tugging at me.
- 1:20:29SPEAKER_00: Caleb Williams was even on the brain, but I'm just going by the numbers.
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_00: The numbers are telling me CJ Stroud.
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to go.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_00: Feels risky,
- 1:20:37SPEAKER_00: feels like one I might regret,
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_00: but I feel like the five guys I already picked are pretty rock solid.
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_00: So I may not even need C.J.
- 1:20:43SPEAKER_00: Stroud.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_03: No quarterback in the NFL facing more pressure in 2026 than one C.J.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_03: Stroud.
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_03: When you consider the defense,
- 1:20:56SPEAKER_03: best in the league,
- 1:20:57SPEAKER_03: had a chance to be historic,
- 1:20:59SPEAKER_03: had to watch Seattle get all the love, the dark side, all of that.
- 1:21:04SPEAKER_03: They've burnt through coordinators.
- 1:21:05SPEAKER_03: They've burnt through quarterback coaches.
- 1:21:07SPEAKER_03: They've got a new offensive line.
- 1:21:09SPEAKER_03: They've got a new starting line.
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_03: Everything around them changing up.
- 1:21:13SPEAKER_03: It's on you, C.J.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_03: Stroud, and it's in there.
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_03: The rookie year was sensational.
- 1:21:19SPEAKER_03: Even there were moments we could cherry-pick last year that give you a little hope,
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_03: that play he made against Kansas City, shrugging off Chris Jones.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_02: But, man, the playoffs were
- 1:21:35SPEAKER_02: Hell of a draft, fellas.
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_03: This was fun.
- 1:21:38SPEAKER_03: We have it all documented, recorded, archived.
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_03: We all know where we want to eat.
- 1:21:46SPEAKER_03: I'm looking forward to having you guys down at West Rose here in Ellicottville, New York.
- 1:21:50SPEAKER_03: So you can work that into the calendar.
- 1:21:53SPEAKER_03: We can aim for, you know, let's get right to it, mid-February, right when the season ends.
- 1:21:58SPEAKER_03: Or hell, we'll know by the playoffs.
- 1:22:00SPEAKER_03: Let's watch a playoff game together.
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I like that.
- 1:22:02SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 1:22:03SPEAKER_03: All right, perfect, perfect.
- 1:22:05SPEAKER_03: Thanks so much, guys.
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_03: Let's do it again soon.
- 1:22:07SPEAKER_03: Appreciate you.
