- 0:00Speaker 1: Break May on corks a deep pass to the receiver
- 0:02Speaker 1: who just keeps making place here early in training camp.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Let's break it all down.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Welcome everybody to the Patriots training camp cast presented Buying
- 0:17Speaker 2: New Balance. We were here after day four where it
- 0:19Speaker 2: really kind of felt like and Christian Gonzalez said this, Paul,
- 0:21Speaker 2: felt kind of like the first day of camp, a
- 0:23Speaker 2: little hot in tensity, seems to be ramping up a
- 0:25Speaker 2: little bit, would you.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Think, Yeah, they ran at a lot of eleven on
- 0:28Speaker 3: eleven plays. I thought there were like four sets of
- 0:31Speaker 3: plays for Drake May and the regulars on offense in
- 0:34Speaker 3: two different periods. So I would agree that humidity was
- 0:39Speaker 3: was sky high. Today it did feel a little bit
- 0:41Speaker 3: more like training camp.
- 0:42Speaker 4: We had shells on, so a little bit of thudding,
- 0:44Speaker 4: a little bit of one on ones. Was watching the
- 0:46Speaker 4: big boys down there during seven on seven, so a
- 0:50Speaker 4: little bit more juice today. I thought the first three
- 0:52Speaker 4: days Franklin was a little bored. I was like, what, well,
- 0:55Speaker 4: you wake me up when we get to you know,
- 0:57Speaker 4: the real stuff. And then today I felt it a
- 0:59Speaker 4: little bit. He felt that training camp juice just a
- 1:01Speaker 4: little more, and.
- 1:02Speaker 1: We talked to have yesterday on the rap show we
- 1:04Speaker 1: did was you know, Drake maybe a little sluol start,
- 1:06Speaker 1: just missing some guys early, not a big deal early practice,
- 1:08Speaker 1: And almost felt that way today where he missed AJ
- 1:11Speaker 1: Brown on a pass. You know, a couple were high
- 1:13Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden it seemed to kick
- 1:14Speaker 1: in a gear. He hit Kayshan Boody on a deep pass.
- 1:17Speaker 1: And you know, before we talk about Drake, let's just
- 1:19Speaker 1: talk about Kasehan Boody because we talked so much about
- 1:22Speaker 1: him this offseason and this guy has just continued to
- 1:24Speaker 1: make place. He's been the best receiver in camping and
- 1:26Speaker 1: every day, including today, he just continues to make plays.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I would agree with that. I think he's been
- 1:30Speaker 4: the best receiver in camp so far. Now we'll see
- 1:33Speaker 4: you on SAJ Brown gets on the same page with
- 1:35Speaker 4: Drake may a little bit more. But just in terms
- 1:38Speaker 4: of what we're watching. Two long touchdowns today. One of
- 1:41Speaker 4: them looked like a bus, but one of them ran
- 1:42Speaker 4: right by Kevin Byron made a tough over the shoulder
- 1:45Speaker 4: catch like we've seen him make a million times in games.
- 1:48Speaker 4: And you just keep seeing him open all the time.
- 1:51Speaker 4: You look up and Kaishan Boody's making a play down
- 1:53Speaker 4: the field, even caught one from de Vedo today in
- 1:56Speaker 4: the whole shot, so it was another really good day
- 2:00Speaker 4: from him. And I agree with your Drake May assessment.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Maybe a little slow to start, but I thought the
- 2:05Speaker 4: last couple of team periods for Drake May looked like
- 2:08Speaker 4: Drake Drake May May.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I would add to Mario Douglas, to the group of
- 2:13Speaker 3: guys that seemed to be showing up every day, a
- 2:15Speaker 3: lot of crosses. Today he got the better. I thought
- 2:18Speaker 3: of Marcus Jones a couple of times coming across the middle,
- 2:22Speaker 3: and that connection seems to be there. We've seen this
- 2:25Speaker 3: a lot in the summer with with Douglas, you know,
- 2:27Speaker 3: I think he's got fresh legs and he's a hard
- 2:30Speaker 3: guy to keep track of. But Booty and Douglas stand
- 2:33Speaker 3: out on the positive side. And then we sort of
- 2:36Speaker 3: alluded it's been a little bit slower with aj Brown
- 2:38Speaker 3: and Romeo Dobbs. You know, I think Evan on Sunday said,
- 2:42Speaker 3: you know, maybe a small sea concerned. I think it's
- 2:45Speaker 3: still slow with Dobbs. Doesn't seem to be a lot
- 2:48Speaker 3: of connections unless they're specifically dialing something up for him,
- 2:51Speaker 3: a quick screen off motion or something like that. So
- 2:54Speaker 3: I think it's been slower with those guys, but Booty
- 2:57Speaker 3: and Douglas, those guys have been productive.
- 2:59Speaker 1: We've seen a little bit from Brown. I mean, look again,
- 3:01Speaker 1: first pass of practice in eleven's Drake goes his way,
- 3:03Speaker 1: kind of overshot him a little bit. But you know,
- 3:05Speaker 1: to your point, Paul felt similar to me in that
- 3:08Speaker 1: kind of the design stuff, the quick game, that's where
- 3:11Speaker 1: they're finding aj Brown, but when they're kind of looking
- 3:13Speaker 1: a little more Downfield's sound like they're on the same page.
- 3:16Speaker 3: And I thought Charles Woods did a nice job on
- 3:17Speaker 3: him today. You know, Carlton Davis was kind of out
- 3:20Speaker 3: of the lineup at times. You know, Christian Gonzalez continues
- 3:24Speaker 3: to be you know, virtually every play of full team
- 3:27Speaker 3: work he's he's been out there. We got to hear
- 3:29Speaker 3: from him after practice. Not surprisingly, he's going to keep
- 3:32Speaker 3: all that between himself and the front office, his team
- 3:35Speaker 3: in the front office. But I do think that it
- 3:38Speaker 3: hasn't necessarily looked smooth. There's been a lot of I
- 3:43Speaker 3: tend to be a quarterback apologist under normal circumstances, but
- 3:46Speaker 3: certainly Drake May coming off the season that he came
- 3:48Speaker 3: off of. I'm going to say some of these passes
- 3:50Speaker 3: that look a little off, a little high, I'm going
- 3:51Speaker 3: to put on the receiver when the receiver's new, and
- 3:54Speaker 3: right now I think Brown's still trying to catch up.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Yeah, there was one Brown curl he curled in. Drake
- 4:00Speaker 4: May threw it out, you know, he threw it to
- 4:02Speaker 4: his outside shoulder. Brown was looking for it on his
- 4:04Speaker 4: inside shoulder, and you just wonder what those like is
- 4:07Speaker 4: that by week five, weeks six, week seven, we're probably
- 4:10Speaker 4: not talking about those little communication things. The other one
- 4:14Speaker 4: I thought Elijah Ponder got and Drake May's face really
- 4:17Speaker 4: quickly off the snap on a little stunt and that's
- 4:19Speaker 4: why that throw was erin. So a couple of things
- 4:22Speaker 4: like that, you know, maybe some underneath stuff, but I
- 4:25Speaker 4: look at it with AJ Brown. A lot of the
- 4:27Speaker 4: things that we're seeing are, well, where's your landmark on
- 4:30Speaker 4: this play? Like where are you going to be on
- 4:32Speaker 4: that one? You know, where's where are you going to
- 4:34Speaker 4: break the route off? And you know things like that.
- 4:36Speaker 4: That type of stuff. That's what this time of year
- 4:38Speaker 4: is about. They'll get that all ironed out. I'm not
- 4:40Speaker 4: really super concerned about that yet.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Just two more player observations for me. Just trade on Henderson.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Anytime you get the guy the ball in space. He
- 4:47Speaker 1: is just an absolute missile. I love watching him run
- 4:50Speaker 1: up the sidelines. I'm broken plays. But the guy that
- 4:53Speaker 1: I'm you know, encouraged by and it hasn't and I
- 4:54Speaker 1: mentioned him earlier this week, is Eli Meritan, who you
- 4:57Speaker 1: know showing up with a couple catches here. I know
- 4:59Speaker 1: it's been a little bit slow with him. It's a
- 5:01Speaker 1: big need for the team though, and seeing him start
- 5:03Speaker 1: to you know, today we soon settling the zone, kind
- 5:05Speaker 1: of finding those crease. I think it's a good sign.
- 5:07Speaker 1: You used to see him start to catch some balls.
- 5:09Speaker 3: I'm gonna throw Tanner Arkin in that group. I continue
- 5:12Speaker 3: to see him out there early in these team periods.
- 5:14Speaker 3: You know, they opened up a lot of those team
- 5:16Speaker 3: periods with running plays. He's on the field, so I
- 5:19Speaker 3: think they have a role carved out for him in
- 5:21Speaker 3: their minds. I think it's his to win. You know,
- 5:23Speaker 3: there's a long way to go. We're obviously just underway here.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Pads haven't even come on. But there's a need obviously
- 5:29Speaker 3: for a blocking tight end, and he absolutely fits that
- 5:31Speaker 3: profile a guy. He's huge.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I've been impressed by rared and I think right
- 5:35Speaker 4: now when he runs with the twos with the veto,
- 5:37Speaker 4: he looks better than everybody else around him. And we'll
- 5:39Speaker 4: see if that can translate to him going up against
- 5:42Speaker 4: the starting defense and if he's still making plays. But
- 5:45Speaker 4: you mentioned, you know, the zone settle, that he had,
- 5:47Speaker 4: those little heady things with his receiving, you know, instincts
- 5:50Speaker 4: and feel like those are the things you look for
- 5:52Speaker 4: with young receivers. A lot of these tight ends, especially
- 5:54Speaker 4: guys that are drafted high. They all can run, they
- 5:57Speaker 4: all have good frames on him, they all have good hands,
- 6:00Speaker 4: things like that. But the question is, you know, between
- 6:02Speaker 4: the ears, are they going to be able to work
- 6:04Speaker 4: the middle of the field and find those soft spots.
- 6:06Speaker 4: So I was impressed by Rodan again today. I thought
- 6:09Speaker 4: that he flashed a few times.
- 6:11Speaker 1: One last thing, I mean, it seems like maybe some
- 6:12Speaker 1: injuries starting to I don't want to say pile up,
- 6:14Speaker 1: but maybe the first injuries a camp. We saw Carlton
- 6:16Speaker 1: Davis left. That meant Charles Woods got in there. And
- 6:19Speaker 1: then Charles Woods looked like he got a little banged up.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Could be a spot of concern there at the cornerback spot,
- 6:24Speaker 1: but I'm not going to panic guys, because we saw
- 6:26Speaker 1: Carlton Davis do this many times last summer.
- 6:29Speaker 4: Before he always I do think that it did solidify
- 6:33Speaker 4: that hierarchy at corner where I do think that Charles
- 6:36Speaker 4: Woods is kind of in his own tier as the
- 6:38Speaker 4: fourth corner you have, you know, Gonzales, Davis, Marcus Jones.
- 6:42Speaker 4: That's one tier, that's the S tier. Then I think
- 6:44Speaker 4: the next tier is Charles Woods by himself right now
- 6:47Speaker 4: is a guy that's really going to be on this team,
- 6:49Speaker 4: I think. And the guys that are competing for roster
- 6:52Speaker 4: spots or the following tier, you know, the Kendallvilldors, the
- 6:56Speaker 4: Kobe Minors, Karan Prunty. So I think Charles Woods is
- 6:59Speaker 4: kind of ahead of that group, but not quite in
- 7:01Speaker 4: the starter you know, S tier group. But we'll see
- 7:04Speaker 4: if he's out there tomorrow or I guess Thursday.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Yeah, well that is Thursday, and their pads are supposed
- 7:08Speaker 1: to come on. However, rain might be in the forecast,
- 7:10Speaker 1: so if you're planning on coming down here to Jillette Stadium,
- 7:13Speaker 1: be sure to check patriots dot com to see if
- 7:14Speaker 1: the practice does move inside, it will be close to
- 7:17Speaker 1: the public, and I don't know if we'll even do
- 7:18Speaker 1: a live show during that, so hopefully the rain holds off,
- 7:21Speaker 1: you'll tune into US Live. We'll break that whole practice
- 7:24Speaker 1: down as things get to ramp up a little bit
- 7:26Speaker 1: in intensity with the onset of pads.
