- 0:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, hello, hello and welcome to another edition of the nine and always podcast parts of the fancited podcast network.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Robert Morrison and a contributor over in nine and always dot com and here with me to celebrate just, you know, what just a truly remarkable outcome one week after another of our little contributor, Mr. Okshaas, do a dual of Okshaas.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: It is, well, it's crazy.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: How are you?
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: Crazy is the right word, Robert.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_02]: Crazy is probably the exact right word.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_02]: I couldn't think of a better way to describe the last couple weeks for the 49ers and yeah being a fan But I'll take it.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_02]: I mean I would take it less than this game being in Santa Clara, but yes, I'll take it.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_02]: It was a it's been an up and down couple weeks But I think the Niners are you know, they're what last eight
- 0:59[SPEAKER_02]: right last eight remaining.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: Well, well, as we're recording not quite where we got to get one more as we're recording Monday night in the middle of the last wildcard game.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: So there's just technically one more one more team to sort out.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, we're getting there.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_02]: Given the way this season is gone and continue to go, which we're going to talk about the game and it's after math.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's impressive.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's wildly impressive.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think just what this team has ever come in.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_02]: Now they get a chance to, you know, clear a bad taste out of their mouth from week 18.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_02]: exercise some demons for me personally from 2013.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, get keep the train going.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_02]: So it's really exciting.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it was an interesting game.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: We'll talk about it.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you played well.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if it matters.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't really matter anymore.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_02]: Like, don't just got a win, but it was a weird game.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_02]: It was a, it's a good game to recap, which we're going to do.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, eventually.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, first of all, like, it absolutely just, like,
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: like on fire wild card weekend like, oh yeah.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: Truly, uh, I didn't watch any of the Patriots chargers game last night because I was, uh, doing student stuff, um, and after that point, I was like, I need no more football in my day.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I was like, I've reached the pinnacle of football for the day.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and apparently I missed the worst game of the weekend.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I, I'm not mad about that.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but like the, the, the Panthers pushing the Rams
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, the outcome, like the son of this added in that game, I think I watched the first quarter or so.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: And then I was like, well, and then I was just kind of like following it on my phone and I was like, oh, it's 21 to nine.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: And then I, or 21 to three, and I was, and then I did what the packers did.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: I gave up, and then proceeded to see that oh, things were starting to get crazy.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: And, and I locked back in and watched the fourth quarter.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and the bear, so the bear is coming back, and then the bills make it to come back on the Jaguars, you know, in the afternoon game, and obviously the 49er's game, like just like as good a wild card weekend as I can recall in certain terms of like the level of competition, like from the first game.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: Almost the last game.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's fair.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think so.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: And then I think like you can describe a lot of it to just the parody, right?
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: Like the NFL is fundamentally I think more even than it's been in usual years.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_02]: And so you get a lot of like close games.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I thought the game with the two games with the biggest like talent differential were
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: the rams playing the Panthers and you know the rams almost rams stand up but they unfortunately held on and the and the Niners playing the Eagles like at that those two were probably the two places where you were like oh yeah this is probably the biggest disparity but everywhere else like both op both teams were like it was close the lines were close the
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: quality of like players were close across the board, sometimes the like underdog had the better quarterback just just a fascinating sort of like I think set up that's going to continue into the divisional round, you know, not to get ahead of ourselves, but I think you can make the case in a lot of ways that
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: like Seattle and Denver are quite flawed.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, one seeds, especially on offense, especially at quarterback in a way that is not typically true.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_02]: And it'll be really interesting to see how that all plays out.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, that's the thing we've been talking about.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like, as we've been just ruining the fact that the Niners couldn't stay healthy all season.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: We're just like, because this would have been the year to do it, right?
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if you were a fully healthy 49ers team probably would have just
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: through the NFC.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, and yeah, oxas.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: They still care.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: There they go.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's, I think it's, it's such a testament to, like, the culture.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: More than anything.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, on their perspective.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: This is, this is a,
- 5:30[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know why.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_02]: Like people say dumb things all the time, but like I think there's a lot of discussion at times about like have the 40 like what are the 49ers are they like a quote unquote good like like are they a team that can like win the games that really matter, you know.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: are they resilient or do they are they like front runners in a way blah blah I don't know lots of discourse I mean this season I think blows a lot of it out of what this is the grittiest season yeah I think like an NFL team has seen it a while and I think that the 40 the NFL I think the 49ers have just like they've exceeded like any expectation you could have had after friend Warner went down yeah even by making the playoffs let alone knocking off the
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: getting a chance to play the one seed, just it's, it's, it's, it's, it's amazing.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's, yeah.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_02]: No words.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's, it's amazing.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: Um, it, I don't know about you.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: We, we obviously didn't record.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: We had some some scheduling stuff.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: So we didn't do a preview of the filly game.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: I, I, I didn't decide because, but we got to a point where it was clear we weren't going to be able to do it.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: So I never got to a point where I was like, I know what
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: not going to feel terribly optimistic.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: I did not feel terribly optimistic going into this game.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: And whether or not I was going to go so far as to like pick against the 49ers remains to be seen, or you'll never know.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: I guess is the better way of phrasing it because I don't have to tell you.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: But gosh, that that was probably about is it's funny because like the optimism going into the Seattle game,
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: versus the pessimism going into the, the filly game was was like palfully different.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if that was the same for you, but that was the way I felt kind of going into it.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think so.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_02]: And I think the reason why I was thinking a lot about this actually last week obviously we didn't record in preview.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: So no one got to hear these thoughts.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: So now you get like at the tiny version of them, I guess.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: But mostly I was just
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: The Seahawk seemed to like give a template on defense and then the 49er's defense is the 49er's defense.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: whole its own can of worms.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_02]: And I think the fear, the rightful fear was just that like this team was going to go as far as their offense could take them and their offense just got like shut down and not like a little a shut down.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_02]: And I think there's no reason to believe that like somehow magically they were going to figure it out against the Eagles.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_02]: Did they figure it out?
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know about other people what I certainly didn't take away from the Seattle game that perhaps we should have I should have is just that the defense actually did the defense played worse than I think the score indicated, but it didn't play like Corridor right played like it was mediocre and I mean it played well enough for them to win the game if the offense had had even a shred of itself that game and you know
- 8:49[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about this game.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's exactly what happened.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: They played a lot of stuff and the differences the offense was like functional enough and like you know the Eagles are supremely talented team potentially like.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_02]: You can make the case the most talented roster in the NFC.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: They're like, they have their own things going on basically in steam and like execute like that it's they're not a
- 9:23[SPEAKER_02]: That's not a team operating get like peak capacity.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_02]: And I think in many ways, the 49ers were the beneficiaries of that.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, of all the teams you could play on while hard weekend in the NFC, like that is the hardest team.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_02]: So I mean, the 49ers have the toughest tests.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I think they passed it, which is great.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so we haven't sent any like specific, so obviously the Niners win 23 and 19 went to Philadelphia took care of business.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: Um, they will now travel to Seattle on unfortunately yet another short week.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: We do not know as of now you probably know by the time you're listening to this and if they make some sort of announcement to change the times and everything.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: Um, right now we know that it's going to be, um, the Niners and Seattle and the Buffalo Denver.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's right.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: Um, because Buffalo is also the six seed, both the six seeds one, by the way.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of funny.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: the three seeds both unable to hold serve at home.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: So Buffalo, Denver, those two games will be on Saturday.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: It will be Bears, Rams, and the winner of tonight's game, Houston and Pittsburgh, which again, you'll all send to the answer to that, who that team is by the time you're listening to the end of this, traveling to New England on Sunday.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: which, you know, not great.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: Another short week for the Niners.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully it's the evening game by the merits of the fact that it's the West Coast, although the other game is in Denver.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: So it's only one time zone different.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: We shall see.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't love that.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: Apparently there's president that I wasn't aware of that the one seeds have generally played, I guess in the years since they switched this over, the one seeds have generally played that after the buy they played this at on the Saturday.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think the solution is you can play four games on in one day.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's just what I like.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_00]: Why I gotta say.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: Just me.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's annoying.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: The rest advantage is certainly magnified for this team given the injuries.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_02]: And like, but I think to some extent, there's a pretty good case to be made that like, if they just like if they didn't like forget how to play offense against Seattle.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: They would be playing in this game anyway.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_02]: And this wouldn't matter, and they would have had a weaker rest, and I don't know.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'm kind of amenable to that line.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's annoying.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I'll do enough favors, but like, you know.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well, in the reverse of the benefit of the reverse is that if they win, then the energy championship game, they get an extra day of rest because that will be on Sunday the following weekend.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_02]: So that's true.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: And they're going to travel somewhere, either Chicago or Los Angeles.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: I have my feelings about which direction I have to go.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think so.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_02]: Well, we can cross that bridge when we get to hopefully we get to that bridge.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_02]: But do you think the ramps start to be hosting an NFC championship game potentially?
- 12:35[SPEAKER_02]: I have to imagine no.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: No, I would think it's the five seed you think it's like the chances are pretty slim.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's a real, I mean, it's a real shame the way the final week worked out for the 49ers.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_02]: Just like it was basically a worst case scenario.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's the got what they got to run through it.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_02]: But yep.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: And that is what it is.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_02]: But you know, really not ideal for the team.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: not that great, but you know, they'll figure it out or they won't, but you know, they took care of the the thing they needed to take care of, which is going to Philadelphia, a hostile environment.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: by the way, as much as the broadcast wanted to remind us that this was the place that they lost the NFC championship game in 2020 in the 2022 season, which actually was in 23.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then, of course, skips over the fact that the 49ers have actually been back to Philadelphia since that game and pantsed the Eagles in front of their home crowd, that, like, what 10 months later, or something like that,
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: We just, they just gloss over that every time.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's very funny to me.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think, again, you sort of alluded to this idea of like, did they play well?
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll talk about that, I think, because when we get into the, the, the nitty-gritty of the game, but I think more importantly, the big thing to keep mine here is that they can play, like that for the rest of the playoffs and
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: If they if they play like that for the rest of the playoffs and they continue in the outcome is the same.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think anybody's going to care whether or not play well so you know it's it's really interesting.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: I think Robert you correct me if you're wrong.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: I think as a podcast you have a very strong like process over results.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_02]: You.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: Generally.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_02]: And like.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_02]: That's great up until week 18 ends.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, until like use words to mask my true meaning, but everyone who's listening knows what it means.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_02]: Then no one gives a what like what your process was.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: No one cares like, oh, like, did you make the right call or oh, man, you didn't like execute offense ideally.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_02]: Like, the only reason you care is because you're worried you're going to lose the next week.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's just the way that the only thing you care about is winning.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_02]: So it makes the playoffs fun because like, you know, the only thing you care about is winning.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_02]: But then as like, you know, me particularly.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like analyzing the games after the fact there's a bit of, oh, you know, I don't really, like the matters.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's almost like, yeah, yeah, it's almost like, it's, I will talk about it in the context of Seattle bit, but like really like who cares.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry, you're right.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: Right, no, no, it's the same, like, it's an interesting thought because it's not any less true that.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: that execute bad execution is bad and good execution is good and that you can get on a you know get on a rolls a team and all that like I think those things that we would talk about in the regular season and like it's important that you're executing well in this game because you want to be in a good space to continue to execute for the next game.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: and like how well you're playing is important and like that sort of thing like things we would talk about in the regular season like okay they want ugly but they really need to clean this up because next week they're not going to be able to get away with that like it's not as if that doesn't matter in the playoffs it's just for some reason we're willing to be like
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know, at this point, they got to win three more games.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: And if they went all three of them, kind of, eh, then we don't care.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's just funny.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's funny.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, people don't remember the fact that, like, I don't know, the Chiefs had to be straight come back and probably played pretty terribly in 2019.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: There were the fact that the Chiefs won in 2019, like, you know, right.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: Like, yeah, the history is filled with teams that didn't play particularly well, but didn't know.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_02]: And like, that's all that matters.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the giants were like eight, eight, eight, eight, eight, eight, nine and seven or something like that, the year they beat the undefeated Patriots.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_02]: Jeff, at the end of the day, the only thing that mattered against, you know, against the Eagles, they'll matter against the Seahawks, against whoever they played, it's just like it did they win or lose and like, I'm just, I'm mentioning this also to sort of like,
- 17:05[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, hedge the fact that, like, I think I'm going to be fairly critical of this team.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't, I want it to be understood.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_02]: Like, there's no part of me that's like, oh, this is like a, I don't know, a big dealer whatever, or like, man, like, how they really had to play better, like, I don't, it doesn't matter.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_02]: They would, they wouldn't be game.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_02]: That doesn't mean they played well.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_02]: It just means they won the game.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_02]: I guess it's the point of trying to make.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_00]: Sure, yeah, it doesn't have to, I mean, like, they can play poorly in this game and or play not as well as they could have in this game and win and that's not necessarily a harbinger of things to come because these two things are as much as we want them to be unrelated or to be related to one another, they're really not like because each week is different and each opponent is different and like even.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: Because like when we do a preview of the game on Saturday, I'm sure we'll talk about, well, the last two times, the last time these two teams played and it's just like, okay, but yeah, but the circumstances are different.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe that matters enough to like, like, you know, bridge the gap in talent or whatever, it'll be really interesting to see how that goes.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: But we got to get into this a little bit more.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: And we've gone really far too long,
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: without discussing the the latest and you you alluded to it the latest in the the the latest sacrificial lamb in the 49er season quite unfortunately towards cattle towards Achilles what was that the first quarter second quarter I want to say
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: Why do they keep showing, why do they keep showing the replay because you can see the Achilles like fold up on itself and it's really not a pleasant site.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: So stop doing that, tell a vision people.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's the same as if some of these leg twists the wrong direction or something like that.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: You can see it like snap, it's not cool.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: So stop doing that.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: So real bummer,
- 19:12[SPEAKER_00]: The worst part was they had not gotten Kittal into the game yet.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: That was his first catch, first and only catch, and it was something that they needed to try to take advantage of, and it didn't really didn't happen.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, I mean, a real shame, I was seeing the timetable on it as usually 9 to 12 months, which,
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: which means that his status for 2026 is potentially really up in the air.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if he's on the nine month range, closer to the nine month range, then that would put him right around the beginning of the regular season.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, the like Larry outcome is he's probably looking at missing the first.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: What quarter to half of the season next year.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: and we have to do this dance all over again.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: It feels like this is like the fourth year in a row we've done this like, oh well, so-and-so got injured at the end of the season.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: And now they're going to miss X number of games in the following season.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, uh, this is the worst.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully it'll turn out better than the one from this year.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: Hi.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_02]: That for sure.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: I think we'll have him by default.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, I agree.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: It's there's like layers of why this sucks.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, first layer, simple layer, bad for the 49ers for this playoff run.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_02]: Second layer, bad for the 49ers in the future, because kiddo's probably going to miss some to like like a lot of like the upcoming season.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: And potentially might not like, you know, there's like a hard recovery time for an Achilles, right?
- 20:47[SPEAKER_02]: There's no guarantee he's going to be the same player afterwards.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, actually actually saw some some doctor on social media that was like the tight tight ends actually have the highest.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: recovery rate.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: Interestingly enough, it's like 71% of them get back to like full strength, which is interesting.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_00]: Might be something about the position or something.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: I just thought it was funny.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: Interesting.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, so what do I know anyway?
- 21:10[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, that's still not 100% but no, I think and then the final thing I would say is that like, like just, you know, George Kittle.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_02]: will cartbeat of the team, lifeblood, emotional leader, along with Fred Warner, really defines what it means to be a 49er in a Kyle Shamey hand, super fun, happy guy.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it just sucks that, like, you know, he in, like, and playoff run where he could be super involved.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_02]: This team is like, finding it's all the odds is now couldn't miss it.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's just, it's a brutal loss, I think, just emotionally, that like,
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: someone who like I think all 49ers fans are like big fans of yeah is like on the sidelines for so long and one of those guys that I think they're they're not every team has players that I think universally people are like across the NFL are just like yeah we like that guy
- 22:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, maybe you don't like him as an opposing team because he's like, dunks on your team and plays well, but I think generally speaking, there's some most people who just like, yeah, George Kittle, good, like, good character, like, like to see it.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was funny.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: I thought I'm sure you saw this.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: I know exactly.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, George Jedyork was at the game and he went down to the, to the locker room.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, and it was like, hey, George, what do you want?
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: And he was like, I'm a bottle of tequila.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_00]: And he got any brats.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, absolutely stunning, stunning word valid valid if I if I tore my Achilles in a playoff game add effort to kill it too.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I probably wouldn't be to kill it for me, but yeah, I'm right there with you with the general feeling of it.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_00]: That is not fun stuff.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, I think the only other major injury to speak at not major injury necessarily, obviously nothing in comparison to that, but
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: Jair Brown left the game of the hamstring injury, not sure what the status of that is.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: Although, I don't know if you're about to say this, the college hand was like, oh, he's probably not looking good for Sunday, just because of the nature.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_02]: How we reacted to it.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: And plus for Saturday, sorry.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, short, and that's what we probably doesn't help them there either.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, kind of a bummer for a judge, who's,
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think this season has been obviously better than his sophomore year was his last year two for him last year in that he's stayed on the field and he's managed to be a part of this team.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's probably some fair criticism of his play and his consistency of his play across the board.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, it's just, it's a bummer because it's just another, like it feels just like it's another hit.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like whether or not he's been like the most spectacular safety on the planet is another thing is, excuse me, not really relevant to the point as it's just like, really like, come on, man, like it would just be really nice to just go the rest of the year without any further injuries would be nice.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, I mean, totally agree.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: Just not a bummer, I think, like,
- 24:21[SPEAKER_02]: It the cost is really high just downstream now when the night is played through safety sets it's going to be like Jason Pinnock and Marcus see go out there so the gyro brown and maybe I don't know.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_02]: Pick your poison of which guy you want it out there next to gyro brown it just like.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_02]: Huge downstream like like all like frankly.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_02]: just sort of the reality of this team is that like, the injuries are at this point really affected death too.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a bit of like, oh, like, why can you really like, I mean, the live actors just for example, it's the cost is like manifold.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_02]: So real bummer, he played pretty well.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_02]: I want to say like, when he was in the game, so like, but we're going to see go play well.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_02]: I think the 49ers,
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: as they've done this entire year, we'll have to learn how to, like, adjust and handle it.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, absolutely.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: That was the only other, you know, I think other than that, and I know there's a huge, those are huge things, like other than that, I think they managed to stay pretty healthy otherwise.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: Realisticly.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I want to say Kaiser White is still dealing with a groin injury apparently.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, they didn't, did he?
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: Well now you got me thinking, was he playing?
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: He was, yes, he had the one sack of the game.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: Not cause here, oh my god.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: No, cause your wife is on the.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's your wife.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, cause your wife is on the practice squad.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say, no, you mean key on like, yeah.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah, key on the white.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, key on white.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, wait a minute.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: It was, it made me think it was my mind a little bit.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, wait a minute.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they elevated a linebacker, but it wasn't that one.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: The only other thing that we want to talk about before we get into, we don't have to spend a lot of time on this.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't really know how much of many thoughts you have on this at this point, but the Texans as they were preparing for their game tonight.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: had to make some roster moves, and one of the roster moves that they made was to release Edd's Russia Daryl Taylor, who was on IR, and came back injured, or not injured.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: I should say, he's healthy now.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: He was on IR, so they did that this afternoon.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: He heads to waivers, and any of the remaining teams can pick him up.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, they've a lowest remaining seed left.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think so, we'll be done with the bills.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: The bills might be by record, I don't know how it works with the playoffs.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: If it's a seeding thing or if it's a record thing, if it's a record thing, then I think it would be buffful though.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: I guess Pittsburgh technically.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: but they can't really do anything until after this game.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: So the Niners are near the bottom of the list, I would say.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, no, the Niners should totally get it.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_02]: They should get them right now.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't even know who he is, and I should just get him.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm being honest.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_02]: There's like a little bit of, I think Darnell Taylor was on the C-Hawks last year.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that's true.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_02]: Might as well.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_02]: But beyond that, like,
- 27:47[SPEAKER_02]: healthy, edd rushing body that can give you any boost on your defensive line.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_02]: Good.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, we want that.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: That's about it.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if the North analysis is necessary.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's frankly like they just need to upass rush.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I think the defensive line, a lot of the players are playing admirably.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think they're doing a lot of what they have to do.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_02]: But like you just need someone to push.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_02]: And I really think that
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: If you have the opportunity to get a guy in the building, see what he's got.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_02]: Just see what he's got.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_02]: Worst case, it doesn't work out.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: You release it and move on.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_02]: But I definitely would get him in the building.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_00]: They're about to have a roster spot open because kills going to go to IR.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_00]: So that seems to work out pretty well.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_00]: Not, I mean, I would not for the record.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_00]: It would not trade George Kittle for Darrell Taylor.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but that's what you gotta be.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he was he'll be just turn he'll be 29 and March.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_00]: So 28 years old seahawk strapped in the second round out of Tennessee.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: Um, he is, um,
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: it's been a not like a pretty like play other than this year has been pretty healthy not been a starter has been like a situational past rusher um... he has twenty four and a half career sex including nine and a half with the c-hocs and twenty twenty
- 29:08[SPEAKER_00]: two and six and a half the year before and five and a half the year after that three sacks in Chicago in 2024 only played four games after a before going on higher this year didn't have any sacks wasn't really like a major contributor there but yeah I mean I think like you said if a guy with experience who's shown that
- 29:33[SPEAKER_00]: he can go out there and get the job done plus, you know, maybe he's got some thoughts about the C-Hux as you mentioned.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: So, all right, well, that's easy enough.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so let's go ahead and get a little deeper into the game and we'll do that, of course, as we always do with our one up-one-down segment, and that is brought to you by our friends at Underdog Fantasy.

- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: The playoffs right there.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_02]: The games you're interested in.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm not going to sit here and tell you that like you need extra incentives to watch the Niners in the playoffs.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think anyone here does.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: But I continue to think that like,
- 30:40[SPEAKER_02]: things like underdog are great ways of just being able to sort of like get that extra boost that vested interest in the game, get your juices flowing a little more when you're watching, I don't know, the AFC, like next week, or you're watching even the game that's playing as we're recording, Texan Steelers, like...
- 31:00[SPEAKER_02]: Super fun, super easy.

- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: Well, OXS, let's start with you with your up from the game.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: We'll give that go.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_02]: I, well, so I mean, there's big like pitch about why they're looking for matters as they, is they won.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that, like, informs a lot of it, but I'm just going to, like, say the trick play.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I don't know, I don't know, like, actually, McAfrey, but the trick play.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_02]: Like, the trick play specifically, I think, is my up, because I think in encapsulates, like so much about what made, it defines this game for me.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it's really smart play calling,
- 32:29[SPEAKER_02]: It's like not perfectly executed.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_02]: And it works.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a momentum shift for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, which I would be surprised by.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: It's the Joanne Jennings touchdown pass to Christian McCaffrey, if you're still confused, and you're like, did you just say Joanne Jennings?
- 32:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, and I did.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_02]: Robert Crazystatt, Joanne Jennings, has the most perfect passer-grading gains as of a, I think a Tennessee volunteer in the playoffs are passing Peyton Manning.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: Amazing.
- 33:04[UNKNOWN]: Yes.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: I think one of the big disparities which to me this is really surprising when I saw this like on the box where afterwards it didn't feel like this in the game at all is the Niners out like gained the Eagles by 15 like four yards or so there was like not as good in the run but much better in the past it didn't feel that way but I think the trick plays an example of like they took their spots they attacked like selectively and aggressively
- 33:34[SPEAKER_02]: They took advantage of an eagle's defense just enough times to like win this football game.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_02]: And I just thought, I thought it was balsy.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was like exactly what the team needed, it was super fun.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_02]: And it worked.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I only wish they could go back to that as well again.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you can only use the rest of the playoffs.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_02]: But.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, and you remember they did use that play previously, I believe it was where he most started on the on the receiving end of it the first time this that first time he I believe Jennings under through it and Raheem had to like go back and get it like I remember him
- 34:07[SPEAKER_00]: Catching it like in the air like high above his head Because Don't want to get enough on this this one look like it.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think McAfrey mentioned like it got caught in the wind and he was like looking up He was like oh my gosh, it's balls in the air forever Which is what it felt like to me.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: I was like oh no Diddy over throw it I don't think he did.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think the wind just kind of like pushed it and Christian like like absolutely like Superb athleticism to like get under that ball and catch it and
- 34:35[SPEAKER_00]: just like really great overall.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_00]: It was great timing, too, as you kind of alluded to, like the offense was kind of sputtering a little bit.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't seem like it was really hovering and Shannon was just like, you know what, we knew you'd kick in the butt.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's safe to say that was kind of like a turning point in the game, because suddenly it's like, oh, I mean, at that point I didn't really feel like they were in the game and at that point, I mean, they were down.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_00]: They were never down by more than one score, but it kind of felt like they were just sort of,
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they weren't giving them the lead.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_02]: It didn't say.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_02]: No, you're totally agree with you.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's just it's such an insane sort of like outcome.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: No, I mean, I think you're definitely right.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's like to like the guts to to pull that out in that moment to be like, it's the fourth quarter where we're down by a field goal.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_00]: The offense is not really, I mean, they'd always, the only touchdown they scored was in that first drive.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, just the,
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: The ineptitude of the offense in the second quarter.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, like, like, mlink turners out there clearly doesn't know what he's doing.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like, very, like, the fact that he hadn't played really played this season was very, very clear, you know, Kendrick Born even looked pretty lost at points in the second quarter.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it was like a crowd noise situation or something like that.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like to think that that team, and I'm sure we'll talk about this in a little bit, the team that was looking like that at times in the second quarter, and even into the third quarter, the fact that they were able to sort of, I kind of pull it together in the fourth quarter, and when the game was pretty impressive, and I think that's the turning point of the game, like if they don't score that, I mean, I don't, if they don't score that touchdown, I feel like that's sort of like,
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: that's maybe the end of the game and they just sort of like whimper out.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: But somehow that light to fire in them and they're and then they look like a different team through the rest of the game.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it was about as necessarily like bold as they needed.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think you think about the last time they were in the run center near the run center.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_02]: Like it was right off the
- 36:55[SPEAKER_02]: pretty split.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_02]: And just felt like not getting six there was a huge cost to them.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like that was going to really come back to buy them.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, it could have absolutely could have.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_02]: It didn't.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_02]: Thankfully, you know.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_02]: But I think it's just, it really was a game changer for them in that moment.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_02]: And like you said, I think it just gave them life that they didn't otherwise have.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I really propelled them to victory.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, 100%.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: I want to highlight a couple of things.
- 37:30[SPEAKER_00]: You talked about that trick plague.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: Always all good.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_00]: Good to see.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_00]: I also thought I should mention this.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you saw this, but in our nine or noise slack, somebody posted.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: John Jennings is a higher rated quarterback coming out of high school.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_00]: What was at the Joe Burrow and Sam Darnell?
- 37:49[SPEAKER_02]: Sam Darnell.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and a little more Jackson.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's funny.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_00]: I could see it like depending on like certain in certain areas of like high school.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: If you're the biggest and the fastest.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_00]: you're going to be at the quarterback right like that's just how it works.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and if you have the wreck was at skills like that's how those things go.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_00]: Um, we want to point at a couple of things.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: Um, to Marcus Robinson, I think needs to be highlighted.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_00]: Um, like,
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: literally kept the Niners alive in the first half with his play, you know, and then do a whole as much in the second in the second App, but six catches on on 11 yards, including that first long one, which was like the absolute answer that the Niners needed to like keep that like it looked not so great, and he came out and had his best game as a forehand or by a long shot.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: But the other names that I wanted to mention is a trio of defensive players, which I know is kind of wild to think.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_00]: On this team, but it is Garrett Wallow, Eric Kendrick's and Marky Seagull.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_01]: Totally agree.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like, first of all, two guys that were not on this roster a month ago.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_00]: Click, at all.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_00]: And one guy that started the season as the starting safety and just fell off a cliff and everybody was like,
- 39:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that didn't work out.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_00]: And then the injury to Jaya Brown, he just stepped up.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the first of all, I thought, I don't understand.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_00]: I've never seen Garrett Wall play football until Sunday afternoon.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he was solid, and I thought Kendrick's next to him was excellent.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_00]: And the pair of them, just.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like no disrespect to the dewinters or to date in Bethune, but this seemed to be the best tandem of linebackers that the Niners have put out there together, like neither of them are obviously better than Fred Warner, or I don't even know if individually, maybe they're better than some of the other guys that've been out there, but like the grouping, the pairing of them seemed to work better than the other options that were out there.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: And that's just like,
- 40:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's wild to me and then like an absolute credit to Marky Seagull who could have just like been like all right.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I got bench like who cares, but he stuck stuck with it.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's been pretty solid on special teams and came out and said, you know what?
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm going to do my job and he was an integral part of that secondary in the second half.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_00]: and came out and did the thing, did the job, what was expected of him.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_00]: And the other thing I wanted to point out to you and you were talking about the Eagles and all this kind of stuff, and there's all the stuff that was going, the lead up into this game was, well this is basically the same team that won the Super Bowl last year, and but they're not as good and why are they not as good?
- 40:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think and I think Nick Seran is sort of alluded to this in his post game comments just just like they got out coached and like coaching matters and I think the Niners sort of showed that on Sunday and we've, you know, certainly had points in the season where like Kyle Shannon and didn't get the job done, Robert Salad didn't get the job done.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_00]: Man, and it wasn't a great showing end to end, but man, they were just like the clear discrepancy between Kyle Shanahan as a offensive play collar and I shoot the name of the officer coordinator.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_00]: Petula, yeah.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like,
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: was like miles apart.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like the way that Shanahan put that game plan together and it didn't always come together.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: But he was clearly more prepared for how to put a plan together against the big fangeos defense than was then Ptole of us against solid defense, which is very interesting considering the gap and talent at these particular points.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_02]: So that was a lot of stuff, but just throw on those things out there.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_02]: You know, my back is in particular.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm gonna, I'm gonna caveat you just slightly just slightly.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_02]: I know, this is not what you meant at all and I'm being just like a boyfriend.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_02]: But I think like the best night is like backing combo this year was bread Warner and Dean Winters, but that's what I'm saying.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_02]: Like, not your point.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_02]: I totally agree, you know, I've really liked to have a theme play this year, but I think he and Winters both,
- 42:25[SPEAKER_02]: were a little over aggressive at times.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_02]: And think Kentrix is was quite circumposed in the way in which it was possible.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_02]: And I think like wallo was like fine, but like fine is good.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't need the big play from your linebackers.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_02]: You needed them to be like solid and they were solid.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Siegel played great.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think he was third.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_02]: You named the threes
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: which is, and like, you could feel that.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_02]: And I think coaching is definitely true.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_02]: I you didn't mention that you didn't see charges, Patriots, the pre-game to that discussing the 90s game was, want to say, Devon and Cori, just like saying how, like, the 49ers, when they needed a touchdown, run a play, they've never run before.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_02]: The Eagles, when they need a fourth-down
- 43:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right into the teeth and the defense.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I think like I think that was true.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_02]: I thought the Eagles defense had a great game plan.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_02]: They knew what they wanted to do.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_02]: They did it.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers attacked them.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_02]: They played.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_02]: I think those two sides played each other to a draw.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_02]: Even maybe slightly advantage to the Eagles.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_02]: But I think the 49ers defense somehow some way outplayed the Eagles offense.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_02]: In part because the Eagles offense played really poorly, but also because the 49ers defense didn't what they needed to do.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_02]: And that is the name of this postseason.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_02]: This can the 49ers defense creep itself up to like just enough.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, we're one week through and the answer is yes for one week.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's really encouraging because that's gonna be necessary.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean, like frankly, this is two straight weeks where they've done that.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_02]: Like again, see, I don't, that defense played well enough to win.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's not very good.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_02]: Well enough to win.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_02]: So like I think it's encouraging to see sort of the the bend but don't break stabilize a little bit.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's interesting.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_00]: I was just going to kind of use check what's talking with Matt Meoko.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you've heard this, but it's very interesting like the things that we talk about with this defense.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: or things that you check was like, oh, the other, they're very bent on break, like we, we know that they can do enough to like whole, like if they can hold teams to feel goals.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so this is it's just very like the whole, like the conversations that we have about this team are the exact ones that at least call you check.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I would imagine that he is,
- 45:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a good enough spokesperson for the for the whole of the team to be able to say like okay what he's saying probably holds is like what the what the group as a as a as a unit like the offense as a as a whole feels like
- 45:18[SPEAKER_00]: The defense is the most injured part of the team right now.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, even with George Kettle, I think that's out, I think that's still the case.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_00]: And the offense knows that it's on them, so it's very interesting to see that play out.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: But, all right, any thoughts on that and then we can go into the down.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_02]: No, I mean, I think they understand.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_02]: I think the up like,
- 45:43[SPEAKER_02]: There was a lot of discussion about how's the role of this offense to help their defense out.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think they didn't do that against Seattle and they did that against the Eagles.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_02]: That's just, that's the way it's going to go and you know, we'll see how, hopefully they, the offense will bail out the defense against them.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_02]: Seattle.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_02]: Or like show up.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they better show up.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sure enough is good.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_01]: the police show up.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, good to the damn.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_02]: Um, there's a, I don't want to say there's a lot because they won.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you don't need to give up 19 points to the Eagles.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, score 23, not great, but like against if Eagles defense that's
- 46:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think, like, the adult Houston vehicles are in there for sure.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville's defense probably in there.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_02]: Just like, really good talented unit.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_02]: So lots of good, but I mean, the 49ers like, not great against the run, not super great against the past.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_02]: The stats I think are misled
- 47:05[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I think the defense gave up, you know, one big run, but with otherwise kind of like five yards here, maybe a stop here, five yards here, maybe a stop here.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_02]: Bym, not great, better than against Seattle.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_02]: Not good though.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_02]: The passing game though, I think the 49ers got a little more lucky than the stats might lead on, and I think that's a concern.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like, the giggles have, again, this kind of goes to like,
- 47:33[SPEAKER_02]: what we just said about like the Eagles and Play Calling.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_02]: They have one of the most talented audiences in the NFL, like two like really good receivers are great tied in, like second best running back in the NFL, behind Christian McCaffrey and St. Korn Barclay, well, like really, really good, like skill position players.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: And they just missed on quite a few plays, like AJ Brown had three drops.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't like the 49ers were in great coverage there, you know, I think,
- 48:02[SPEAKER_02]: The defense did an admiral job giving up only 19, but you fast forward next week.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_02]: If they play the way they played today, against like Seattle, or like even looking for their head the Rams, that 19 is gonna jump away, I think, just because of the, like I think a lot of the reason why the score is as low as it is, is because of
- 48:30[SPEAKER_02]: sort of the eagles being unable to capitalize as much as the 49ers sort of doing something right on defense.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, I think there's there's there's certainly that's a fair assessment to be sure.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_00]: It all I was just reading something today as well that like the eagles are
- 48:55[SPEAKER_00]: most of the season, but it got like exceedingly worse in the second half of games this year.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like they drop from like a top 10 offense to like a bottom five offense between the first in the second half.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_00]: So it's kind of like a teams would feel them out in the first half and be like, okay, what are they doing?
- 49:14[SPEAKER_00]: All right, all right, here's what the plan is.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, we figured out what they're doing.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_00]: And then this, you know, half time they'd be like, okay guys, here's here's what they're doing.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_00]: And then in the second half, they go out there and sort of execute and do the job a little bit better.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I think that's certainly the Eagles are not, we're not a good offensive team this season.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_00]: And despite having good offensive players, like it's a coaching thing, it's all that kind of stuff.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, it was definitely a better second half.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_00]: had a few more ideas about how to stop them.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there's certainly some things you can take away from the way that they handled the second half versus the first where it looked like they were kind of get run over.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_00]: And fortunately, only down 13 to 10 heading in half time, and all that sort of thing is good.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_00]: And as you said, it does kind of make you a little nervous about like, what's a better offense going to do?
- 50:19[SPEAKER_00]: like what a better offense under the same circumstance been able to put up like 21 points on them in the first half and then you're just like a I don't know if we can if we can come back from that kind of thing who knows.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but yeah, it's certainly a.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_00]: a concern, adding, adding into, as the, as the playoffs go along and they, and conceivably the matchup gets a little bit more difficult.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_02]: Also want to throw in there, sir.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like, they are related, because I don't think, I don't know if you're going to mention this, but.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's just like it was sitting around my special teams was bad bad special teams not good what happened very disappointed like lots of miscuses all around just not not a fan that do do better guys I was I was so happy we were talking so much about how this team like special teams is now weapon for them how it's going to be like the difference and the playoffs no just
- 51:18[SPEAKER_02]: do better.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_02]: Please.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_02]: That's well.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, but, you know, not to look to, you know, take your frown and turn it upside down.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_00]: I could say, well, that's good, right?
- 51:28[SPEAKER_00]: Because when we talked about during the regular season a lot, we talked about, oh, they want ugly and that's a good skill to have.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe this is, this is the reason you want to be able to win ugly, right?
- 51:39[SPEAKER_00]: Is that in the playoffs more often than not?
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to have to win ugly.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like,
- 51:44[SPEAKER_00]: not a lot of these games when we talked about a good of a lot of a weekend this was for the wildguard games but there's also some like grit and then you talk you called this team gritty and earlier and I think that's true like the fact that they won games like that this year where maybe everything wasn't quite firing on all cylinders and yet they still found a way to get the job done.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_00]: I got to think that's a benefit as they head into this part of the season where that's the likely a sway that they're going to win at this point given where they are with injuries and given where they are in terms of like what that creates in terms of talent, in terms of talent, discrepancy against teams that they're going to play moving forward.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I think you're right, and so far as like
- 52:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's like the flip side whenever we mention all the bad things, and I think we've done this this entire season stuff.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_02]: In spite of all that, they still won.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_02]: So imagine what'll happen if you know, they, um, like they should figure it out.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think that the concern is, you know, in the playoffs, like maybe they won't, maybe they won't.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_02]: Again, don't anything that matters as if they win.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_02]: But you're a little less, how do you say, like,
- 52:55[SPEAKER_02]: Do you don't have a leeway to figure it out like you have to have have figured it out.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_02]: And that's like, that's always the concern.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_02]: Is that like.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the margin, the margin for air, the margin.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_00]: They thin is the way the play also is as your opponents.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_00]: Generally speaking, you're going to get better.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_00]: And especially if you consider the fact that.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_00]: the rest of the way, let's see.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the rest of the way through the NFC, they're definitely going to get a rematch of some kind.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_00]: They got Seattle for the third time.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_00]: They've got possibly the rams for the third time and pot or the bears for the second time.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_00]: And it will be the bears on their home turf this time, which may change things a little bit.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_00]: The weather is certainly going to go into account when you talk about Chicago and January, it's supposed to Santa Clara in January or Santa Clara in December, even.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_00]: there.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there are any rematch opportunities in the AFC, you know, going way on down the line.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_00]: Because they didn't play Buffalo, they didn't play New England.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_00]: They did not, the Houston Texans, I guess, are the only possible one there, right?
- 54:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, the text in this game was weird.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_02]: It came to poor time for the team, but they got dominated by Houston.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, but yeah, I mean, like that is going to matter too.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just something that I don't know what.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_00]: what difference it makes, you know, they say it's hard to beat a team twice in one season.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they've beat all those other teams once and lost two of them once and so it'll be really interesting to see like mentally what difference that makes.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_00]: But again, like ultimately I think it comes down to the thing that comes down to me is like this team seems to have
- 54:58[SPEAKER_00]: And whether or not that ends up making a difference in the end, I could not tell you.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_00]: But in whether it's enough to make up for the loss of all these players, I mean, it doesn't seem likely, right?
- 55:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, is you think, like, in the end, the best, the most talented team or the team that's playing the best at this particular point is going to be the one that wins.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_00]: But who knows, if, I mean, there's, I think there's some truth to mental fortitude and that sort of thing in these situations.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_02]: I agree, I agree.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_02]: No team has dealt with more adversity than the 49ers this year of the team's remaining, and that's going to matter.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think Trent Williams said a great point.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_02]: He said.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_02]: The players having seen Fred Warner go down with his like injury.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_02]: Kind of like in a way prepared them for the fact that like one Trent went, not one Trent went George went down like.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_02]: They could have folded over in that moment, but they realized okay.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_02]: Like we've been here before, we understand what's going on and we have to like keep it going.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_02]: And I think, I don't know, I thought that was a really interesting point that he made in.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of agree, like I think that's like did experience the ups and downs.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_02]: There are players on this team that have experienced like several ups and several downs.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_02]: So like, oh, like a cross their career and I think that's like this gonna come back to benefit them.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we can only hope.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_00]: Um, did.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 56:28[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so it'll be Saturday.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_00]: Um, at some point.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's, what do they for 30 and eight Eastern time are the starts for the two games on Saturday.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_00]: So, one of the other.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be one of the other, but we'll be back with you.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_02]: uh... to discuss that match up uh... hopefully if all works for comes together um... oxygen to join the other final words before we wrap up this this episode and a great win and like i don't know like you know i say i said i've heard map what i was going to look like what that so is going to look like what i was going to say but like what's not forget they beat the raining champs yeah they did
- 57:12[SPEAKER_02]: There, they walked into the fillet, lost their like, start tight end and beat the Eagles.
- 57:20[SPEAKER_02]: Now they get a chance to walk into the Seattle and beat the number one seed who took the number one seed from them in week 18.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_02]: And then they'll get a chance to potentially play, you know, the team that took the NFC championship from them in 2021.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you know, you can't make this up.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_02]: This is like,
- 57:40[SPEAKER_02]: In some ways, this is pretty ideal for how you think about like a team sort of like coming back and like exercising playoff demons.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_02]: At least from the time I've been a fan like, you know, nothing better like these three teams if those are the three teams, they face on the way nothing sweeter than beating off three and they're one through the way through.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, it's exciting.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's fun.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_02]: It was a great game.
- 58:07[SPEAKER_02]: My heart rate was through the roof at the end.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_02]: Like we're feeling it.
- 58:12[SPEAKER_02]: It's playoff time.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's the best time of football and like
- 58:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's always like, no matter what the feeling is, it is infinitely better that your team is going through it than not.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, cherish it and we'll see you next time.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_00]: Enjoy the ride folks.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_00]: Um, that is what we have to say.
