- 0:00Speaker 1: So yeah, the radio from Hell expole. We just want
- 0:03Speaker 1: to ask you a question, and it's simple. It's back
- 0:06Speaker 1: to school time. Look back on those times when you
- 0:10Speaker 1: were going back to school, or maybe you want to
- 0:12Speaker 1: talk about your children going back to school. But is
- 0:15Speaker 1: there anything that you really looked forward to going back
- 0:19Speaker 1: to school? And was there anything that you were kind
- 0:23Speaker 1: of you were worried about her? You didn't want to
- 0:26Speaker 1: go back to school for some reason.
- 0:27Speaker 2: So back to school stories? Can I tell you a
- 0:30Speaker 2: nauseating cute story.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I was just going to say I was always happy
- 0:33Speaker 1: to go back to it.
- 0:36Speaker 2: So today my daughter Jonesy is moving into her apartment.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Oh really, to go back to school.
- 0:44Speaker 2: She starts school on Monday, moving into her apartment, and
- 0:47Speaker 2: she claims she's never coming home again.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Which is what a quarter it's a quarter of a
- 0:51Speaker 4: mile away, very very close.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I'm never coming home again. But what she realized and
- 0:57Speaker 2: she looked at her little brother Mohammed, and she said,
- 1:00Speaker 2: I remember the last time you asked me to play
- 1:04Speaker 2: Minecraft with you. This was years ago, and I said no,
- 1:09Speaker 2: and I feel bad about that. So last night, her
- 1:13Speaker 2: last night at home, they sat on the couch and
- 1:16Speaker 2: played Minecraft together.
- 1:17Speaker 3: And it was adorable.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna puke. You're right, okay, im.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Just like I'm so sorry.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I told you I didn't want to play Minecraft. Let's
- 1:26Speaker 2: play Minecraft before I leave.
- 1:28Speaker 1: It was very cute. Are you putting people like this
- 1:32Speaker 1: out into the world is really bad for the rest
- 1:34Speaker 1: of us, you know, I mean, it really makes the
- 1:37Speaker 1: rest of us just look like jerks.
- 1:39Speaker 3: There was the pressure on it.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Come on eight seven seven six two nine six nine six.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I was always more than happy to go back to school.
- 1:48Speaker 1: I got me out of the house. I hated being
- 1:50Speaker 1: at home, and I like to learn stuff and I
- 1:56Speaker 1: liked school lunch.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Well, speaking of school lunch, we are getting some texts.
- 2:01Speaker 2: You can do that if you would like. Somebody says
- 2:03Speaker 2: tater tots and peanut butter bars.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Were the best.
- 2:05Speaker 5: I still have yet to find the peanut butter bar
- 2:08Speaker 5: that school lunch served.
- 2:10Speaker 1: It was so good. The peanut butter cookie, No, it
- 2:13Speaker 1: was a bar, different thing.
- 2:15Speaker 2: It was like a peanut butter flavored kind of a
- 2:18Speaker 2: thick thing of chocolate al the chocolate on top.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I still have yet to find it.
- 2:22Speaker 3: And they say the worst is remembering your locker combedes.
- 2:24Speaker 4: I was in fear of forgetting my locker combination.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Teacher Emily says one word for both the students. I
- 2:31Speaker 2: look forward to and bread the students.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Eight seven, seven, six oh two nine six nine six.
- 2:37Speaker 1: What did you like about going back to school? And
- 2:40Speaker 1: what did you not want to do?
- 2:42Speaker 5: I always liked the smell of new tough skin jeans
- 2:45Speaker 5: and yes, in husky size.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Remember when they that was one of the sizes was husky. Yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 3: it sounded better than extra large.
- 2:54Speaker 1: She does large. I think husky sounds horrible. I'm a
- 2:58Speaker 1: husky boy.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Let's see woodwork or Willie.
- 3:02Speaker 5: When I was going back to school, I really looked
- 3:04Speaker 5: forward to the weekends.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Lebody exchanged.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Somebody says school often felt like prison. We had some
- 3:10Speaker 2: pretty awful kids at our school. I hated getting stuck
- 3:13Speaker 2: for ten hours a day with kids who would pick
- 3:15Speaker 2: on you and your friends, be rude and disrespectful to teachers,
- 3:18Speaker 2: and destroyed the school any chance they could.
- 3:20Speaker 1: There's Sketchy Blake online one Hi Blake, good morning.
- 3:27Speaker 6: It was yeah, see things there well, peanut butter bars,
- 3:31Speaker 6: hater tots and friendship sandwich.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Yes, friendship sandwich was great.
- 3:37Speaker 6: And Kerrie the Davis County School District has a commercial
- 3:41Speaker 6: kitchen you can buy the peanut butter bars from. Are
- 3:43Speaker 6: that the real complex out there in West Davis?
- 3:47Speaker 4: Oh h, that.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Might be worth a drive by the sheet It might be.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Actually, a librarian in the chat room says that Macy's
- 3:55Speaker 5: has the closest ones.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Sounds good.
- 4:00Speaker 5: In Chine Cafe in North Salt Lake, lots of people
- 4:02Speaker 5: we didn't.
- 4:03Speaker 1: We didn't have the peanut butter or the Friendship sandwich
- 4:07Speaker 1: or not, but we did have Sloppy Joe's fairly. I
- 4:10Speaker 1: like the Sloppy Joe's eight seven seven six, Oh thanks
- 4:14Speaker 1: Blake eight seven seven six oh two nine six nine six.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Not just school lunch, but I mean, and there were
- 4:20Speaker 1: certain teachers that I really liked. Sure, oh yeah, I
- 4:24Speaker 1: was excited to see again. What when like when you're
- 4:27Speaker 1: in junior high then you have a variety of teachers,
- 4:30Speaker 1: and there were some that I really liked and wanted
- 4:32Speaker 1: to see again.
- 4:34Speaker 5: I always look forward to new pants, new pants, new pants,
- 4:38Speaker 5: and then yelling and pointing at kids.
- 4:39Speaker 3: New pants, pants and your new shoes always made you
- 4:42Speaker 3: go fast. Remember, yeah, you'd run fast and very fast.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Well that's that's not true. That's an illusion of some sort.
- 4:49Speaker 5: But then I also dreaded along with the new clothes.
- 4:52Speaker 5: My mom would make my shirts. Oh and kids, would.
- 4:56Speaker 3: You didn't have the cool shirts from the story?
- 4:59Speaker 1: Yeah you didn't. Yeah, it was that was kind of
- 5:01Speaker 1: I mean, I had a hard time. We couldn't afford
- 5:04Speaker 1: the really coolest clothes that people were wearing.
- 5:06Speaker 4: And you know two words, trapper keeper.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Oh yeah, there you go.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Let's go to steph.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Oh it's our dear stuff, nice staff, good morning, good morning.
- 5:19Speaker 7: So you know when you were little and you would
- 5:23Speaker 7: go back to school and be really excited about like
- 5:26Speaker 7: the energy and the renewal and all was in the air,
- 5:30Speaker 7: and it was just a really cool time. I am
- 5:33Speaker 7: lucky enough in my job now to be able to
- 5:36Speaker 7: still experience that every year at the university since I
- 5:39Speaker 7: was Oh yeah, so I never Yeah, it's super exciting.
- 5:44Speaker 7: That energy on campus is so great and it's one
- 5:47Speaker 7: of my favorite times of the year.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and Stephen, when am I not going to be
- 5:51Speaker 1: able to find places to park in front of my
- 5:53Speaker 1: own house?
- 5:55Speaker 7: You know, that's a great question. Since I'm not a lawyer,
- 5:59Speaker 7: I can not legal advice.
- 6:03Speaker 3: School starts this next week.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Next week.
- 6:05Speaker 4: Yeah, thanks, Steph.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I got plenty of street parking right now. But all right,
- 6:09Speaker 1: that's gonna go away. Cone con Yeah yeah, traffic cons.
- 6:15Speaker 1: All right, see you later.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Actually you don't even need to buy them. They're all
- 6:18Speaker 4: over the streets.
- 6:18Speaker 1: It just takes just go borrow them.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Yeah, let's see. I have the original. It's back to
- 6:24Speaker 4: the peanut butter bart.
- 6:25Speaker 5: I have the original peanut butter bar recipe copied from
- 6:28Speaker 5: the school around.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Seventy eight or seventy nine. Email it to me.
- 6:31Speaker 5: Wow, you're feeling the peanut butter bar thing to derailed
- 6:35Speaker 5: the thrust of the ex pole.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Well, what's all right?
- 6:37Speaker 1: You're back to school every you know, I always went
- 6:40Speaker 1: back to school with a really hopeful attitude.
- 6:44Speaker 3: This is gonna be a good year.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Well, well, not quite that it was. Well, I was
- 6:48Speaker 1: always hopeful that this would be the year that the
- 6:52Speaker 1: cool kids would like me. Maybe the cool kids would
- 6:56Speaker 1: like me this year. Maybe maybe I'll be part of
- 6:59Speaker 1: the in crowd this year, rather than someone that everybody ignores.
- 7:05Speaker 1: But I always did my best to try and make
- 7:07Speaker 1: sure they couldn't ignore me.
- 7:09Speaker 5: Ivy in the chatroom says, I used to look forward
- 7:11Speaker 5: to decorating my locker on the first day. Apparently they
- 7:15Speaker 5: don't do that anymore.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Don't let you do it? Huh are the kid?
- 7:21Speaker 3: Yeah? I think so.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Let's see.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Teacher Sarah loved new school supplies, especially crowned. Hated being
- 7:28Speaker 2: teased mercilessly about my curly, frizzy hair.
- 7:34Speaker 5: Patrick the friendly neighborhood middle school teacher. Best thing is
- 7:38Speaker 5: meeting my new students. But I don't like waking up early.
- 7:41Speaker 5: I'm a night owl.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Let's see that line one there. Here we go, Blake, Hi, Blake, Hello,
- 7:52Speaker 1: What's what's up? Blake? What? What is your story about school?
- 7:57Speaker 8: So ours is coming up this year. It's my daughter
- 8:00Speaker 8: senior year, and we are going to miss the entire
- 8:03Speaker 8: first week because we're going back to Chicago for my
- 8:06Speaker 8: son's Navy boot camp graduation.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Oh well, that's kind of a good reason.
- 8:11Speaker 3: We've got.
- 8:11Speaker 2: We've got our navy graduation in two weeks, and my
- 8:16Speaker 2: kids are gonna miss not We're not not going to
- 8:18Speaker 2: be gone a whole week, but they're going to miss
- 8:19Speaker 2: a couple of days for our navy graduation.
- 8:23Speaker 8: Yeah, it's kind of funny. We have never missed the
- 8:25Speaker 8: first day of school ever. And this is her senior year,
- 8:28Speaker 8: and I kind of feel bad, but we're going to Chicago.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Well does she feel bad?
- 8:32Speaker 3: My boy?
- 8:32Speaker 1: Does she feel bad? Not at all? Oh, well then
- 8:35Speaker 1: don't don't you feel bad? Yeah?
- 8:37Speaker 8: She's like whatever, We're good. It's my senior year. I
- 8:39Speaker 8: don't care.
- 8:40Speaker 2: When when Fastest graduated boot camp in Chicago, it was
- 8:44Speaker 2: during COVID so we couldn't go. So that's why we're
- 8:47Speaker 2: going to make a big deal of him graduating this
- 8:50Speaker 2: medical school.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Now, I got my Navy hat on today. Navy mom,
- 8:53Speaker 3: you got to get one of these.
- 8:54Speaker 8: Yeah, I know that it's new. It's all new. My
- 8:57Speaker 8: husband was in the Navy. He was in He joined
- 9:00Speaker 8: in two thousand and one before the attacks, and he
- 9:04Speaker 8: did his four years and got out. And now my
- 9:05Speaker 8: son is like, you know that, I want to go
- 9:08Speaker 8: to be like you. But he's pretty much one uping dad.
- 9:11Speaker 8: He's special Forces candidate.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Wow.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Cool.
- 9:15Speaker 8: We're like all right, yeah, so we'll be in uh
- 9:18Speaker 8: California next so special Forces.
- 9:21Speaker 1: But that's isn't that more more likely to be in
- 9:23Speaker 1: danger than you know?
- 9:25Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 9:28Speaker 3: Well, keep us posted on his progress.
- 9:30Speaker 1: If if he was just good at if he was
- 9:32Speaker 1: good at peeling potatoes. He could just be down down
- 9:35Speaker 1: in the galley all the time. You don't I know.
- 9:37Speaker 8: I'm like, oh no, this MoMA heart can't handle it.
- 9:40Speaker 1: But no, we're very proud. Good luck eight seven seven
- 9:44Speaker 1: six h two nine six nine six. Back to school frequently.
- 9:48Speaker 5: My birthday was the first day of school, so I
- 9:51Speaker 5: was bringing cupcakes to strangers. Oh yeah, I hated going
- 9:56Speaker 5: back because my dad always sang to wake us up.
- 9:59Speaker 3: Twenty years late, I missed that.
- 10:01Speaker 1: My dad always sang good morning.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Yep.
- 10:05Speaker 4: Let's see.
- 10:05Speaker 5: Uh oh, school lunch chili at Bella Vista Elementary. We
- 10:09Speaker 5: used to hollow out breadsticks so we could fill it
- 10:11Speaker 5: with chili. Yeah, let's see, everybody's talking about school lunch.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Somebody says I dreaded the first day of school because
- 10:23Speaker 2: my mom made me wear a skirt.
- 10:25Speaker 3: You got to dress up for the first day of school.
- 10:28Speaker 1: When I was in school, I believe young women had
- 10:32Speaker 1: to wear skirts. You couldn't wear pants at all. Ever,
- 10:35Speaker 1: I dreaded the bullying.
- 10:38Speaker 5: Those years were hard growing up and getting picked on
- 10:40Speaker 5: at school never made things easier.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Yeah, let's see.
- 10:45Speaker 5: I worked for the U and really enjoy helping students
- 10:48Speaker 5: find their classes during the first week. That was another
- 10:51Speaker 5: thing that terrified me, was being able to find the class.
- 10:54Speaker 1: It got really and it's got worse than when you
- 10:57Speaker 1: went to college and stuff. Yeah. Sometimes that was.
- 11:00Speaker 5: Because I went from a you know, a school house
- 11:05Speaker 5: that had just had two floors and only so many
- 11:07Speaker 5: rooms to this big high school.
- 11:10Speaker 4: I was just convinced that I was going to get lost.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Somebody says, hated having to go to bed while it
- 11:14Speaker 2: was still light outside.
- 11:15Speaker 3: That's hard this time of year, for sure.
- 11:17Speaker 1: We got line one, Melissa, I'm Melissa. Hey, Yeah, what
- 11:23Speaker 1: what's good? Good? Tell me the story.
- 11:27Speaker 8: Well, I am excited for my son this year. He
- 11:30Speaker 8: is autistic, and I was a little bit nervous about
- 11:34Speaker 8: him going to school last year. But he has not
- 11:36Speaker 8: stopped talking about going to first grade.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Oh that's so cute.
- 11:41Speaker 1: That's good.
- 11:43Speaker 8: I'm excited to stop hearing when I go first grade.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Yeah, good, good luck. And what's his name.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Jamison Jamison. Have a great first day, Jamison Jamison. You'll
- 11:57Speaker 3: do well, you will do the first grade.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, am I the only one who does not
- 12:06Speaker 5: remember my first day back to school.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Any of the years I do not remember?
- 12:10Speaker 3: Blocked them out for some reason.
- 12:14Speaker 5: Let's see, uh, I hated the first days with everybody
- 12:16Speaker 5: wearing trendy new clothes, which mine never were.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Yeah, that I had that sort of problem.
- 12:21Speaker 2: It's one of the nice things about having uniforms. Everybody
- 12:25Speaker 2: always looks the same. There's no one with the hot,
- 12:28Speaker 2: new trendy clothes.
- 12:29Speaker 3: We all look the same.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I wish that the uniforms that you know, you had
- 12:33Speaker 1: to wear the were really dowdy. Just really just keep
- 12:39Speaker 1: you humble, you know.
- 12:40Speaker 5: For my wife, we had a different schedule on alternating days.
- 12:44Speaker 4: That's hard, and I would have nightmares. I would go
- 12:46Speaker 4: to the wrong class on the wrong day. Yeah, let's see.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Back to school lunch.
- 12:52Speaker 5: There was a barbecue like sauce that they served with
- 12:55Speaker 5: the chicken sandwiches. I've not been able to replicate it.
- 12:58Speaker 3: I still think about it.
- 13:02Speaker 2: I mean, that's so my my my experience was different
- 13:04Speaker 2: because I had uniforms. We also didn't have school lunch.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Really we had.
- 13:10Speaker 3: To want an elementary middle school.
- 13:12Speaker 1: We had to just bring a sack lunch or they
- 13:14Speaker 1: would do catered lunch. Well that business.
- 13:18Speaker 3: And well, that was in high school.
- 13:21Speaker 2: My mom, the Saint and Mary Claire would come to
- 13:24Speaker 2: school and take orders. I'm going to Arctic Circle today.
- 13:28Speaker 2: What does everybody want? She would go pick up lunch.
- 13:32Speaker 3: That was our school.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Lunch, but elementary and middle school it was only sack lunch.
- 13:37Speaker 3: There was no hot lunch at all.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Really, so what sort of sack lunch would you take?
- 13:40Speaker 3: Salami sandwich?
- 13:42Speaker 1: Salami dong saloon.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Dong in the in the in the foil wrapper like
- 13:47Speaker 2: it should be.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Now, wait a minute, when you say salami sandwich, what
- 13:51Speaker 1: you're telling me it was bread and salami.
- 13:54Speaker 3: The perfectly reasonable sandwich.
- 13:55Speaker 1: What kind of bread? White bread, like wonderbread? What like
- 14:00Speaker 1: with with a couple of pieces of salami and then
- 14:02Speaker 1: another piece of bread. Yep, it's a sandwich. Nothing to
- 14:05Speaker 1: make it, give it some texture.
- 14:08Speaker 3: I don't need texture. Texture confuses me.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Well, I'm glad you're owning up to that after all
- 14:15Speaker 1: these years.
- 14:17Speaker 5: The smell of opening a new crayon box, yeah, and
- 14:21Speaker 5: sharpening new pencils or markers. I remember in middle school
- 14:25Speaker 5: there was you could buy pencils for a nickel or
- 14:29Speaker 5: something like that. I can't remember, but there was a
- 14:30Speaker 5: machine and every once in a while they'd have thematic pencils.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Oh, it was like well, it was like collect the mall.
- 14:38Speaker 5: There was like you know one time there was NFL
- 14:41Speaker 5: teams yep, I remember those, so on your pencil it
- 14:44Speaker 5: would say, you know, Washington Redskins or whatever it is,
- 14:47Speaker 5: you know, Dallas Cowboys, and it was like you got
- 14:50Speaker 5: to get them all where you're trying to get your
- 14:53Speaker 5: favorite team.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Somebody says, my mom would dress up in a banana
- 14:57Speaker 2: costume and walk us to our class and embarrass the
- 15:00Speaker 2: all out of me.
- 15:00Speaker 3: But I sure miss it now.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Well, see if you can get your mom to do
- 15:04Speaker 1: it now. Yeah, all right, for all the time sake
