- 0:00Speaker 1: Let's head across and catch up with the Lord Mayor
- 0:03Speaker 1: of Darwin right now. Convat Scarlets, good morning to you.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Good morning Katie from beautiful Money Grida. I'm visiting Money
- 0:10Speaker 2: Grida as the president of Local Gum Association of the
- 0:13Speaker 2: Northern Territory and I'm in the company of the Mayor
- 0:16Speaker 2: here of Money Grida, Matt Ryan, which shows me around
- 0:19Speaker 2: the community, the infrastructure of the houses, your houses, the
- 0:22Speaker 2: new houses. And yes, we discuss exactly the same plot problem.
- 0:25Speaker 2: We're discussing law and order in the general community.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Well, Conn, my mum lives out in Maden Grida.
- 0:31Speaker 1: So if you head out and head out and and
- 0:34Speaker 1: catch up with Leslie, you have to say.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Hello, find another wolf. I say hello the girl.
- 0:39Speaker 1: But she has said, yes, there are some issues in
- 0:42Speaker 1: Maden Grida at the moment when it comes to crime.
- 0:44Speaker 1: So there's no doubt this is something that we're experiencing
- 0:47Speaker 1: right around the territory. Con Can I ask you, I
- 0:51Speaker 1: know we raised this on the show last time you're on,
- 0:54Speaker 1: but wondering if there has been a bit of an
- 0:56Speaker 1: update around the Jingly Water Gardens, the footbridge there. It's
- 1:00Speaker 1: been raised by well a number of a number of people.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Is there any update on that foot bridge?
- 1:07Speaker 2: Well, the update Katie is at the moment is closed
- 1:10Speaker 2: for the same reason because we have to get the
- 1:11Speaker 2: engineers to actually put a plan for repairs, and then
- 1:14Speaker 2: we have to get the subcontractors and material. What appalls
- 1:18Speaker 2: me is the fact that we close the bridge. We
- 1:20Speaker 2: extensively advertise why the bridge is closed because it is
- 1:24Speaker 2: a risk to the public, and we secured it. People
- 1:27Speaker 2: cut the ropes. We secured it with metal barriers. Somebody
- 1:31Speaker 2: use an angle grind or to cut it. I don't
- 1:33Speaker 2: know what people don't understand. When we say it's a
- 1:35Speaker 2: risk to the public, that means if you walk on it,
- 1:37Speaker 2: you might fall through, might hurt yourself. Then of course
- 1:41Speaker 2: you have nobody else to blame. The bridge is going
- 1:44Speaker 2: to be fixed, and it's going to be all the
- 1:46Speaker 2: faulty paths are got to be replaced. But it can't
- 1:48Speaker 2: be done overnight because it has to have an engineering
- 1:52Speaker 2: study and we have to actually do it properly. I'm
- 1:55Speaker 2: not going to cut corners just because somebody wants to
- 1:57Speaker 2: actually ride it tomorrow. It has to be done properly
- 2:00Speaker 2: because the danger to the public is what worries me
- 2:04Speaker 2: a lot.
- 2:05Speaker 3: So how long do you reckon it's going to be
- 2:06Speaker 3: closed for corn.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Kerry At the moment, I've got believed a lot. I've
- 2:10Speaker 2: got problems getting contractors to do some of the gardening
- 2:14Speaker 2: and some of the menabers in the park. There are
- 2:16Speaker 2: enough people out there or they're all fully occupied. Darwin
- 2:20Speaker 2: is buzzing at the moment. So it's going to be done.
- 2:22Speaker 2: I can't give you a timeline for the same reason
- 2:24Speaker 2: because nobody can actually give me a timeline where they
- 2:26Speaker 2: can do it. But it is going to be done,
- 2:28Speaker 2: and I'm trying to do it as soon as practically possible.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Corn A message from one of our listeners this morning.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Are the down City Council going to start lending cat
- 2:38Speaker 1: traps again?
- 2:41Speaker 2: Well, the only thing they have to do is speak
- 2:42Speaker 2: to our people. The city Council is actually prepared to
- 2:46Speaker 2: address the issue of the cats because they can be really,
- 2:50Speaker 2: really significant problem with a native life. And if you
- 2:56Speaker 2: see what's happening in the statistics, their cats are terrible
- 3:00Speaker 2: and kill more birds and more native life than anything else. Yes,
- 3:03Speaker 2: we are prepared to give cut traps. The only thing
- 3:06Speaker 2: we have to do is talk to our people in
- 3:07Speaker 2: their council and make the arrangement.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Okay, well, I'm sure to that person listening that answers
- 3:13Speaker 1: that question for them. Colney's been a bit of media
- 3:15Speaker 1: today well or over the last couple of days about
- 3:19Speaker 1: the bus exchange at Casuarina Square. I know that it's
- 3:21Speaker 1: something that Sentinel had raised in the past about whether
- 3:24Speaker 1: that bus stop there at Casarina Square may or may
- 3:29Speaker 1: not move. Do you have any update from the council's perspective.
- 3:33Speaker 2: We haven't got anything concrete yet. The only thing we
- 3:36Speaker 2: hear is rumors luck it's going to be relocated in
- 3:38Speaker 2: the trial roads out of Casarina. What really works me,
- 3:42Speaker 2: it's already a hive of undisocial behavior. Why you want
- 3:46Speaker 2: to put an exchange bus exchange cender and next to
- 3:50Speaker 2: the liquor store, which is going to create more problems
- 3:52Speaker 2: because whether they're proposed to put it is next to
- 3:55Speaker 2: the Casurina Club. Now, I don't say that Casuna Club
- 3:59Speaker 2: would do the wrong thing. Our go to everybody, but
- 4:01Speaker 2: of course the temptation is there. And my biggest problem
- 4:04Speaker 2: is not direct sale. It's secondly supply. I think the
- 4:08Speaker 2: department of the Depot has to think seriously where they're
- 4:11Speaker 2: going to put it, because sometimes we're asking we're inviting
- 4:14Speaker 2: troubles ourselves.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Now, what about with the you know, with the bus
- 4:17Speaker 1: stop that's there at the wool Words CB day do
- 4:19Speaker 1: you reckon We need to have a recink on that one.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Thank you Katie for raising that one. We've been asking
- 4:25Speaker 2: for that one to be rethink they relocate the bus stops.
- 4:28Speaker 2: The answer we get this, we don't know where to
- 4:30Speaker 2: put them. Well, that's the idea where you pay consultants
- 4:33Speaker 2: so much money to find a place to put them,
- 4:35Speaker 2: because it looks like the concentration of the bus stops
- 4:38Speaker 2: next to Woolworths it creates problems for the public and
- 4:41Speaker 2: suddenly for the shopping center. We've seen some footage video
- 4:46Speaker 2: about the issue with the fight between people from Port Kits.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Even Matt Ryan, the mayor of Money Good that he
- 4:53Speaker 2: watched this footage and he was a pole that people
- 4:56Speaker 2: will behave like that when you've got indigenous leaders because
- 4:59Speaker 2: this other people for the way they behave in the cities.
- 5:02Speaker 2: That tells you something that is a serious problem. And
- 5:05Speaker 2: people used to be standing up and be counted for it.
- 5:08Speaker 2: And I'm glad that matt Ryon does that conn with the.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Wool Worth one or with the you know, with that
- 5:14Speaker 1: bus stop. Have you got any idea where you reckon
- 5:16Speaker 1: it could go?
- 5:18Speaker 2: Well, we have no say on that one of the decisions.
- 5:20Speaker 2: It's by people, and people will decide where to put it.
- 5:23Speaker 2: We can only advise them that this is not the
- 5:25Speaker 2: right location. It can be further up, further down, or
- 5:28Speaker 2: even split the bus stops and do them in different areas.
- 5:32Speaker 2: But they keep telling us that if they do that
- 5:34Speaker 2: to underre disturbing the bus network. I mean, how much
- 5:37Speaker 2: how difficult it is actually to get somebody to provide
- 5:39Speaker 2: some solutions and then consult with the community.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Where it should But so con is it something that
- 5:44Speaker 1: the council has actually written to Dipple about about having
- 5:48Speaker 1: it moved.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Well, it's not only the council that talks to people
- 5:52Speaker 2: about it, but if you look the newspaper and the
- 5:55Speaker 2: comments in Facebook, you find out that the whole public
- 5:58Speaker 2: is concerned about this issue you and they want something
- 6:01Speaker 2: to be done about it.
- 6:02Speaker 3: All right, Corn, a very quick one.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I'm wondering if there is any update on that Bayview
- 6:06Speaker 1: issue that we'd asked you about about last week. I
- 6:09Speaker 1: know the wet season's coming soon. Apparently the poll's not
- 6:12Speaker 1: cemented in concerns about lack of lighting.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Any idea where it's at.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yes, I asked for that one after we finish Kate.
- 6:19Speaker 2: The answer I got is the problem we have is
- 6:21Speaker 2: in the state. Supplies haven't arrived yet and we can't
- 6:24Speaker 2: finish the project with get without getting the unnecessary equipment.
- 6:29Speaker 2: The problem is that the necessary equipment have to come
- 6:31Speaker 2: from overseas, mainly from China, so it's a logistics problem.
- 6:35Speaker 2: We were trying to sour local material now with not
- 6:38Speaker 2: much access on my head, but will continue to do so.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Corn, Before I let you go this morning, I understand
- 6:43Speaker 1: that there's another plant give.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Away, another plentad plants.
- 6:50Speaker 3: You know your plans, you tray.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Well, actually you're right. It's a price giveaway
- 6:55Speaker 2: for the local residence because giving plant away it's a
- 6:57Speaker 2: big price. Yes, it's coming up in the first weekend
- 7:01Speaker 2: to August. Heavy look our website. We're going to give
- 7:04Speaker 2: it another three thousand plans Already this year will be
- 7:07Speaker 2: six thousand plans giveaway and will continue to sow for
- 7:10Speaker 2: the rest of the year. We already allocated three million
- 7:13Speaker 2: dollars for more trees in Darwin, and that's what it
- 7:16Speaker 2: will be done by us. But at the same time
- 7:18Speaker 2: we want to give plans to people to actually plan
- 7:21Speaker 2: their own verges or their backyard. Well contacts free and
- 7:25Speaker 2: only for people in Darwin, not Palmerston, not surroundings, well Conn.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Thank you very much for your time this morning, saget
- 7:31Speaker 1: I to everybody in Maddeningrada for us. I know we've
- 7:33Speaker 1: got a few listeners there. We've interviewed the may from
- 7:36Speaker 1: mad and Grador a couple of times before, so I'm
- 7:37Speaker 1: make sure you say hello.
- 7:39Speaker 2: And I'm promised to chase your mother here for you.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Good on you. Thanks God,
