- 0:10Speaker 1: about your kiddies and your puppies. You can text questions,
- 0:14Speaker 1: it's it's better to call because we can ask you
- 0:17Speaker 1: questions if we don't understand something. Yeah, and doctor Davis,
- 0:20Speaker 1: thanks for being here. You got surgery today, I see.
- 0:23Speaker 2: We'll see. I actually don't know what's on the schedule today.
- 0:25Speaker 1: You're lazy.
- 0:26Speaker 3: You're wearing your It's just easier, so I just want
- 0:28Speaker 3: to wear my scrubs today.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I have a question, let's hear it.
- 0:32Speaker 4: I'm being fresh food shamed.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Me more so.
- 0:37Speaker 5: You know, dog food kibble is one thing, but Instagram
- 0:42Speaker 5: everywhere is telling me that I am a horrible dog
- 0:45Speaker 5: parent if I don't feed my dog fresh food.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Don't I don't feed my pets anything that I wouldn't
- 0:52Speaker 1: eat myself.
- 0:53Speaker 6: Are you being shamed by companies that provide the fresh
- 0:56Speaker 6: food that yes, or influencers that are being paid by
- 0:59Speaker 6: the company providing.
- 1:00Speaker 5: But it's working because I because I I like vullible.
- 1:05Speaker 5: I'm gullible and well and I want what's best for
- 1:08Speaker 5: my dog. So help me, help me decide on that.
- 1:11Speaker 3: What's yeah, nutrition is it's a crazy topic and everyone
- 1:17Speaker 3: has opinions about that, and I think at the end
- 1:20Speaker 3: of the day is that if the fresh foods are
- 1:23Speaker 3: well made, you know, they're probably not going to cause
- 1:25Speaker 3: any problems as long as they're nutritionally complete. And there's
- 1:30Speaker 3: a lot of advertising, like you're talking about, you know,
- 1:33Speaker 3: the pet food industry is gigantic and everyone wants a
- 1:37Speaker 3: piece of it. So I do think you have to
- 1:39Speaker 3: take a lot of it with a grain of salt
- 1:42Speaker 3: when you buy you know, dogs.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Salt in the in the food.
- 1:46Speaker 3: There should be the right amount. But there there's you know,
- 1:51Speaker 3: good quality pet food kibble. There's nothing wrong with with
- 1:55Speaker 3: pet food, you know, in general. Now there's different levels
- 1:58Speaker 3: of quality one hundred percent with that. And but the
- 2:01Speaker 3: fresh food thing is it is I won't say it's
- 2:05Speaker 3: a gimmick, but there's a lot of advertising behind it,
- 2:07Speaker 3: and it may and there's odds are it won't make
- 2:10Speaker 3: your pets life any better or anything. And I've seen
- 2:12Speaker 3: a lot of pets on it that it's often refrigerated
- 2:15Speaker 3: or wet, so there's a lot of storage requirements and
- 2:18Speaker 3: calorie calories can be different, and so it can be
- 2:22Speaker 3: a lot easier to cause obesity, vomiting, diarrhea. There's just
- 2:25Speaker 3: a lot of things that can come with it. So
- 2:27Speaker 3: I'm not saying it's all bad. But you're not a
- 2:29Speaker 3: bad owner.
- 2:29Speaker 2: If you feed your dog dry kibbles, there's nothing wrong
- 2:32Speaker 2: with that.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Are some of the big companies, you know, the now
- 2:36Speaker 1: known companies making fresh food.
- 2:38Speaker 2: There's I mean, there's so many.
- 2:40Speaker 3: I mean fresh pet is one of the big ones
- 2:41Speaker 3: that comes to mind, but there are there's so many now,
- 2:43Speaker 3: I mean I see them every.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Day when I walk by the coolers and the stores
- 2:46Speaker 2: and things like that.
- 2:47Speaker 4: And there's a new thing called meal toppers.
- 2:51Speaker 1: That gave me diarrhea.
- 2:53Speaker 5: So it's you got kibble, but it's just a little
- 2:56Speaker 5: extra like fresh thing that you put on top of
- 2:59Speaker 5: a tree.
- 3:00Speaker 3: And if you look at the statistics, I mean, I'm
- 3:03Speaker 3: not saying I'm one hundred percent on this, but in
- 3:05Speaker 3: my experience, about sixty to seventy percent of the dogs.
- 3:09Speaker 2: I see are overweight or obese, and it's probably.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Higher than that. And a lot of cats are obese.
- 3:15Speaker 3: So every time we're throwing toppers at them. Every time
- 3:17Speaker 3: we're throwing all this stuff at them. It's it's just
- 3:20Speaker 3: it's wasting your money because they don't need the calories
- 3:22Speaker 3: and there's not all these giant health and the.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Good old days, in the good old days, when you
- 3:26Speaker 1: were having dinner and then whatever was left on your plate,
- 3:29Speaker 1: you put it down on the floor and the dog.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and they'll eat it, you know.
- 3:33Speaker 3: And just the obesity comes with so many health consequences,
- 3:37Speaker 3: and if you're going to feed something, I just there
- 3:40Speaker 3: should be a benefit.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Okay, that's how I look at that. I know. But again,
- 3:44Speaker 2: ask one hundred vets, you'll probably get a hundred different opinions.
- 3:46Speaker 6: It was easy for us because we tried that stuff
- 3:49Speaker 6: and the dogs didn't like it.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:50Speaker 4: I preferred the kibble.
- 3:51Speaker 1: It was easy.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and the quality kibble.
- 3:53Speaker 3: If their poops are normal and their skin and hair
- 3:56Speaker 3: coat are shiny and healthy looking, you're you know, probably
- 3:59Speaker 3: in a good spot.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Okay, Yeah, all right, that's helpful, Thank you. Okay, let's
- 4:04Speaker 4: go to Jed.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Hello, Jed, Hey, Jed, where are you calling from?
- 4:08Speaker 7: Oh, Salt Lake City?
- 4:09Speaker 1: Well, I love this question. What what's your cat's name? Okay?
- 4:15Speaker 2: What the avatar?
- 4:17Speaker 1: Yeah, go ahead, and ask the question.
- 4:20Speaker 7: Yeah, so when I'm outside with them, they love eating
- 4:22Speaker 7: grasshoppers on the ground. They'll like stock them and jump
- 4:25Speaker 7: on them and eat them. And I did a little
- 4:28Speaker 7: bit of googling on this. It sounds like eating grasshoppers
- 4:31Speaker 7: is okay in moderation, But I'm wondering what in moderation means.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Yeah, cats love that. I mean, it's the hunting, stocking nature.
- 4:42Speaker 3: So yeah, they're there one hundred percent love to do
- 4:44Speaker 3: that kind of stuff. Moderation, I would see, is it's
- 4:48Speaker 3: flexible because you know, the insects do have the hard parts,
- 4:52Speaker 3: those back leagues are spiny. On a lot of grass
- 4:54Speaker 3: them out.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I've noticed the cats.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Yeah, certain things they'll try not to eat, but if
- 4:59Speaker 3: they eat an enough of that that those hard cells
- 5:01Speaker 3: they may not digest that appropriately, so that can lead
- 5:03Speaker 3: to vomiting.
- 5:04Speaker 2: And if I mean, if they're.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Eating piles of grasshoppers, you know that even enough could
- 5:08Speaker 3: be obstructive to them too, and their stomachs. Even like
- 5:11Speaker 3: hair balls, you know, just enough hair can cause problems.
- 5:13Speaker 3: In enough hard material like insect kite can cause a
- 5:16Speaker 3: problem for them. But in general, you know, if it's
- 5:19Speaker 3: a grasshopper here and they're probably not gonna hurt anything.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Yeah, all right. Cool. It's fun to watch them do it,
- 5:25Speaker 1: isn't it.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that's are amazing hunters. They are.
- 5:29Speaker 1: They love it. Yeah. It's doctor Josh Davis, veterinarian extraordinary
- 5:35Speaker 1: power excellence. Good morning. He's here in the studio with
- 5:39Speaker 1: us to answer questions about your kiddies and your puppies.
- 5:42Speaker 1: You can text questions, It's it's better to call because
- 5:47Speaker 1: we can ask you questions if we don't understand something. Yeah. Uh,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and doctor Davis, thanks for being here. You got surgery today,
- 5:52Speaker 1: Actually we'll see.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I actually don't know what's on the schedule today.
- 5:56Speaker 1: You're lazy.
- 5:57Speaker 2: You're wearing your Yeah, it's just easier.
- 5:58Speaker 1: So I just want to wear my broke today.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I have a question, let's hear it.
- 6:03Speaker 4: I'm being fresh food shamed.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Tell me more.
- 6:07Speaker 5: Oh so, so you know, dog food kibble is one thing,
- 6:10Speaker 5: but but Instagram everywhere is telling me that I am
- 6:15Speaker 5: a horrible dog parent if I don't feed my dog
- 6:19Speaker 5: fresh food.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Don't I don't feed my patch anything that I wouldn't
- 6:23Speaker 1: eat myself.
- 6:23Speaker 6: Are you being shamed by companies that provide the fresh
