- 2:16back again. I think we took a week off. You know, it's
- 2:20been uh, you know, there's been a lot going on in January prepping
- 2:23for some big things with the for All Nerds fams. So you know,
- 2:25we got some things moving behind the scenes right now, a lot of things
- 2:30going on, so we had to, you know, take a little break.
- 2:32But we back here to distress everything has been going on in geek and

- 2:52you so much. Make sure you hit us up on twitch dot tv slash
- 2:54for all nerds Twitch dot tv slash DJ Ben, I mean for me as
- 2:59well. And you know what's been going on with you? How you doing
- 3:01out there talking? How is your year treating? You know? It's twenty
- 3:04twenty four, Yeah, the year truth. I'll say that, the year
- 3:07of truth. Okay, I've been bringing the truth to a lot of people.
- 3:09I like that. I've been telling the truth to a lot of people.
- 3:14But yeah, I've been doing it, but I've had to really do
- 3:16it this year. I want to tell some more truths. But you know,
- 3:19I'm wanting to start a fight if I do that, So I'm I
- 3:21mean, we might start a few fights, do it. I'm gonna starting
- 3:24a fight earlier today. You know what, I am a proponent of violence.
- 3:30Violence is the answer many times, I'm not the peacemaker here. If
- 3:36y'all looking at me, like which one between me and Ben? Who's going
- 3:38to be more peaceful? Neither? Because I'm with the shits, I'm with
- 3:44throwing hands, I'm with it all when necessary. It is what it is.
- 3:47But on something more positive, I've had a good twenty twenty fourth,
- 3:52that's far. My birthday was January fourteenth. So I the Motherland for the
- 3:58second time in my life, actually to Tanzania this time, and was able
- 4:02to experience and be privileged to go on safari and actually see real life fucking
- 4:11animals up close, not too close. But unfortunately didn't get to see any
- 4:17lions, nor did I get to see any elephants up front. I've never
- 4:20seen African elephant. That's another thing, like, I've got to make that
- 4:24distinction because the African elephants are much bigger than a lot of elephants people be
- 4:27seeing in random places, random locales, particularly whether it's like a zoo or
- 4:32if you go over to the Philippines or any really other places in Asia,
- 4:35excuse me, where they have different types of elephants, they are not like
- 4:41African elephants. So just say that. So I was a little upset to
- 4:44see that, did not see that, but I did see damn near everything
- 4:47else, and lots and lots and lots of Impala and Pala specifically, they
- 4:55were like the fucking roaches of the planes, like they were everywhere, mass
- 5:00overpopulation. Even the people there were like, yo, y'all need to do
- 5:03something about this shit. So we'll see and when the time of year we
- 5:08went is considered the springtime. So I was lucky to see like a lot
- 5:12of the babies. There were tons of baby animals everywhere. It was so
- 5:15cute. So and my favorite land animals, giraffe. Saw them a billion
- 5:20times on safari, and giraffes are so fucking beautiful, so gorgeous, and
- 5:27like I'm always like an awe and I see it like wow, and then
- 5:30I also like, I also think about that Jimmie Fox comedy skit where he
- 5:35talks about giraffes and how I want to say it because it's so ridiculous,
- 5:41but it's it's so funny. But no, I got to see some amazing
- 5:44things, and you know, was also able to experience culture. Really got
- 5:49out there, like did a lot of excursions. Beautiful beautiful land right,
- 5:54beautiful beautiful water. I'm talking about one of some of the bluest water you've
- 5:58ever seen in your life, just gorgeous. Was able to actually go to
- 6:02the home of a Massai family and learn about their culture and and and actually
- 6:09was welcome into the family along with my group. They sing as a song
- 6:13of celebration like it was. It was it was fire, it was fire.
- 6:15And you know, I've been enjoying. I've been to Ghana previously,
- 6:19so that's my fore way into into the continent thus far. But I would
- 6:24I'm absolutely in love with all the different countries in Africa and and I'm just
- 6:29happy that I'm finally getting to do what I wanted to do since I was
- 6:31a kid. Like my next my next thing, Like I've always wanted to
- 6:35go to Kenya. Want to go to South Africa. I mean, I
- 6:40want to go down there everywhere. When I was coming back, someone who
- 6:45was from West Africa, they was like, yo, you need to go
- 6:46to Cultovoir. Obviously. I want to go to Egypt like I was.
- 6:50I just want to hit all the like the hot spots and see what it
- 6:54is. You know. Obviously, want to go to Nigeria with friends.
- 6:57You know, my sisters in Nigeria right now. Word she did, she
- 7:00got peoples there. Yeah. Yeah. My sister does a lot of Ephos
- 7:04spirit work and so she's over there right now doing that right now. So
- 7:09she's gonna be there till mid March. Yeah, oh wow, although she's
- 7:13out there for real. Yeah, she's out there for a minute. Yeah,
- 7:15yeah, oh that's what's up. Yeah, definitely want to go there.
- 7:17But again, just I was just so happy and just kind of overjoyed
- 7:23and felt really good and humbled by being able to do that. So nice.
- 7:29Whudos to Tanzania. Congratulations, that is great. Thanks. I've just
- 7:33been here in the crib. You know what I mean, I've been hearing
- 7:40the twenty degree with it. I mean, basically, you know, that's
- 7:44all I've been doing is struggling through this winter. You know, it's been
- 7:46It's been good though, you know, you know that's that's that stroke.
- 7:50It's been good. Note you know, I mean, I'm gonna hold you.
- 7:54That was a hard pillow swallow when I started seeing the reports that there
- 7:57was snowing and then I had to coming back out of connect through Paris and
- 8:01it's fucking snowing the ground in Paris, and I landed and I said,
- 8:03oh shit, like I sunk in my chair, like be back to this
- 8:07the ghetto. Oh well, welcome back. Well up there to be in
- 8:13my hometown. But geez, Louise, there it is. Yeah. But
- 8:18I've been good, you know, things have been good start off of the
- 8:22year. I've been you know, as you know, as we've been talking
- 8:24about on the shop and putting out a lot of music. I've got a
- 8:28new mix dropping. By the time you hear this, it'll be out.
- 8:33So I gotta sharing your music a lot, and especially funny enough, in
- 8:35Tanzia some of the best freaking high speed service I've ever had for my phone.
- 8:41When I say that, Lte and fig was hitting on Sofari, I
- 8:45was like, hey, yo, so I listen it was it was beautiful.
- 8:48So I was sharing your music out there too. Oh, thank you
- 8:52very much. Yep. I got a new mix and a new edit pat
- 8:54dropping, and I'm still really heavily pushing this Beyonce joint because I love it.
- 9:00So make sure you go follow me over on band camp and SoundCloud,
- 9:03dj Ben I mean on both of those. But you know, we've been
- 9:07talking enough about ourselves and there's a lot of things going on in this you
- 9:11know, world of geek in pop culture. So first I guess we should
- 9:16just address it, you know, since I did start of the show with
- 9:20standing and Lego my echo. I guess I don't know, man, I
- 9:26cannot lie at this point. I'm just somewhat tired of talking about the MT
- 9:33overall. I'm just like, it is what it is. So you do
- 9:35believe fatigue is real, Marvel fatigue is real. I think mid storytelling is
- 9:41real. Yeah, I think mid storytelling. And I would not say Echo
- 9:46was mid storytelling. It's not, it's not. I think it's all No,
- 9:50okay. I think my fatigue has to do with discussing superhero films and
- 9:58television with fans and doom. That's my fatigue because it's an apossibility. It's
- 10:05like I was talking with my boy DJ Loki the other day, big fan
- 10:09of the show from Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, of course. Yeah.
- 10:13I was talking with him the other day and he was talking about DJ's complaining
- 10:16the most out of anyone in the world. And I fully agree we are
- 10:18some of the most complaining people in the world. But I think right behind
- 10:22us are nerds. And I think because like MCU fans are one of them,
- 10:26they are so impossible to please, right And I don't know this person's
- 10:31name, but this is part of and parts of it. We were going
- 10:33back and forth on Twitter this week and they were last week and they were
- 10:37talking about how I gave one division a B minus and or B plus or
- 10:43something, and I gave Echo a C plus or B. It was like
- 10:48they're basically close, really closely related letter grades. And my issue is that
- 10:52was breaking down the fact that we talked on this show for hours at a
- 10:56time about these properties and then breaking it down to the these letter grades,
- 11:00trying to make a point. And I feel like that's a lot of the
- 11:03discussion that happens around these films. It's people wanting to make a point in
- 11:09arguing instead of just talking about it and enjoying it for what it is.
- 11:13Like I enjoyed Echo for what it was. It was a cool, nice
- 11:18series. It was five episodes. They were less than an hour. Most
- 11:22of them were like thirty minutes, really thirty five minutes, so there wasn't
- 11:26much time in it, much time invested, and it was cool. Are
- 11:28you talking about arguing or critiquing, I'm talking about both. I think I
- 11:33think that arguing comes because we post our critiques and then we are expected to
- 11:41defend them to one hundred people at a time. Well, it's kind of
- 11:48in that and that's where my fatigue come, Like, Okay, that's what
- 11:52we are here to do. That's see, that's what I'm saying that's where
- 11:54my fatigue comes from, because for me, Echo is just like, oh,
- 11:58okay, it's cool. Now there's something else you want to talk about
- 12:01later on the show. It's something like Blue Giant, this film that I
- 12:05saw this year, which is fucking incredible, and I can spend time talking
- 12:09about it, you know what I mean. I don't want to spend time
- 12:11talking about Echo. It was cool. I'm talking about the Bear. I
- 12:16can spend time talk about reservoir dogs. I can't spend time talking about Echo.
- 12:22I would also say, as a body of work is you don't have
- 12:24as much as you get in the Bear series, or as much as you
- 12:28know, as much time. And that was the other thing, like some
- 12:31like the same person said they enjoyed Iron Fit season two more than this because
- 12:37they at one point they said Iron Fist was better than I was. You're
- 12:39you can't start off like that. I don't take you seriously after that,
- 12:43and they said, well I enjoyed yeah, And I said and they said,
- 12:46well, I enjoyed iron fifth season two more than this, And I
- 12:48say, bro, iron Fist season two. That means there's thirteen episodes in
- 12:50seasons. It was the whole season thirteen episodes in season two, So that
- 12:54means the writers and creators had thirteen episodes which they spawned it in the first
- 12:58season, establish everything, and then thirteen more to bring you into it.
- 13:05Echo had five it was a limited series and ipants for an hour each.
- 13:09Yeah, I mean, it's comparing at least when you're talking about amount of
- 13:13content and things to go off of. It's comparing apples to oranges. I
- 13:18mean, and I I would have never said that one. But no,
- 13:22but like em for season two wasn't that bad because like you said, you
- 13:26know, they focused on Wing. I wouldn't even that's crazy again, And
- 13:31that's the other thing, is like why do you have to compare them to
- 13:35each other? I wouldn't. Wand Division is a completely different show than Echo,
- 13:39just like Echoes are completely different show. They're just just I don't know.
- 13:43I enjoyed Echo for what it was. That's what my you know,
- 13:46basically critique comes down to. I thought it was good. I thought Shorty
- 13:50playing Mayle was you know, fantastic. They didn't agree. And that's the
- 13:54other thing. People it's like becomes the thing, right They're like, oh,
- 13:56she didn't emote, she didn't do this, she didn't do that.
- 14:00I'm like, I thought she did. I thought and that and that's and
- 14:03that's. Yeah, it can't it can be more than that. If you
- 14:07think one thing and I think another, we're not gonna you know, it's
- 14:11cool, that's fine, but I'm not gonna sit there and go back and
- 14:13forth with you about that. And that's where it becomes. That's where I
- 14:18feel like this, I'm like, my fatigue comes in. Okay, Yeah,
- 14:22I mean, being a limited series, I also felt the same.
- 14:24I thought it was cool. After seeing it, I would still give it
- 14:28like a B minus seen the full things. I know, the last review
- 14:31we did was just the first what three episodes, and then the last two
- 14:35episodes came out like during the break. So yeah, like overall, probably
- 14:41B minus. You know, had Or was my favorite out of all of
- 14:48the limited run. And I mean cause it did everything I think it needed
- 14:52to do, just in terms of characterization. Like I said, I felt
- 14:54like she was emoting throughout the whole thing. That's the reason why I liked
- 14:58her and continue and will continue to like her when she continued to be introduced
- 15:01and in fact, Echo has done better than a lot of people expected and
- 15:05people think because like it actually helps stir renewed interest in the Netflix series and
- 15:11all the street level as they call the Street Level heroes. To the point
- 15:15where it started, Disney plus themselves started pushing all the other old shows like
- 15:20oh, oh, if you look at it right now, it goes oh,
- 15:22like echo, you want to watch Jared Double And obviously that's an easy
- 15:26end, but still like it gets people interested. So the fact that it
- 15:30gave that new renewed interest and what we said before, the fact that it
- 15:33was a platform for indigenous communities like specifically Witch tribe. Do you remember Wisch
- 15:39Tribe, Chaldaw, the chalk Taw tribe. Like, I think it did
- 15:46well for what it had to do in this limited amount of space. I
- 15:50think it did well. And it's just hard to try to compare it to
- 15:54something that's had thirteen episodes and had the time to either squander or utilize it
- 16:00very well, depending on what show you're talking about, right, I just
- 16:03I don't think that's fair. And as far as like subjective responses on whether
- 16:11or not you like the person's acting or this or that, I mean again,
- 16:14that's subjective objective. Yeah, And I don't mind that, you know,
- 16:18I do hear what you're saying, though about It can get tiresome when
- 16:21it's just like I'm not going to sit here and argue with you to make
- 16:23you agree with me. It's like, yeah, here's my thoughts, here's
- 16:26your thoughts. Cool, let's keep it pushing. Yeah, And it becomes
- 16:30tiresome to me when people are like, well you thought this like this,
- 16:36When people are like that person said the first thing, they're like, this
- 16:38is crazy to listen to I don't think people also understand how it sounds when
- 16:42they talk to us. You know, it's like like they're listening to the
- 16:47show and they're like, this is crazy to listen to it. I'm like,
- 16:48we'll turn it off. I think I think for everybody listening, I
- 16:55think we got to remember like and I would hope this is the case.
- 16:57One of the reasons why y'all look like to listen to us because we have
- 17:00informed opinions and sometimes y'all don't agree with us. And sometimes and you're subjectively
- 17:07speaking, you're like, yo, y'all are off base. I loved it
- 17:10or I hate it or whatever it is. And I think there's constructive and
- 17:15critical fun to have in that and having different opinions and bringing about like for
- 17:19example, when we do the All Stars, ten times out of ten,
- 17:22nobody agrees with us, right, it's always somebody. Not by nobody,
- 17:27I mean, it's always one or two contingent of people on the All Stars
- 17:32that like everything we say. They're gonna say the polar opposite of that because
- 17:34that's just how they feel. And they back up their thoughts with their reasonings
- 17:38and this and that and I I and then you know we're good. Right,
- 17:42We keep it pushing because we're critiquing a body of work from our lenses,
- 17:48right, and from our perspectives and so on and so forth. So
- 17:51that's when it's cool. And we're hoping that we're doing that with you guys,
- 17:53the listeners, right, that you'll understand that sometimes y'all gonna fuck with
- 17:56us about what we're saying about something, and sometimes y'all gonna be like like
- 18:00hell and no, I disagree, and all right, so let's have the
- 18:03constructive conversation. But let's also watch ourselves because to Ben's point, like I
- 18:08don't know, people understand how crazy they sound coming at us. Sometimes it's
- 18:12kind of and it's really coming at you, man, and I apologize.
- 18:15I feel like this will never end. People come at you. People don't
- 18:19really come at me crazy, to be honest, and if they are,
- 18:22you maybe deleting those comments anyway. But I just people not and I could
- 18:27say something wild and I don't get the flag for it, So I don't
- 18:32know. Yeah, no, it is what it is with that, you
- 18:33know, people are just definitely Yeah, I've accepted that part or beginning accepting
- 18:38the villain. I guess. Yeah, I've accepted being a villain. And
- 18:41sometimes I'll say things just to sit up get on you because they know you're
- 18:47fucking shit. Stirs sometimes, yeah, but I'm also a shitster who stirs
- 18:51scenes from a point of like this is reality, you know this, yeah,
- 18:56from y'all. Y'all are not really paying attention here. And that's something
- 18:59else said. I stirred things from a point like you said, we come
- 19:02from a very informed viewpoint, like something I wanted to make to that person,
- 19:06and like we are distressing but aren't We're dancing around. It's like the
- 19:08idea of real estate in real estate is something we learned when you get into
- 19:12the writing room and just in Hollywood and general. It's like what it's a
- 19:15term people use a lot. It's like how much real estate do you have?
- 19:18And so Echo only has this amount of real estate. And that's something
- 19:22I always talk about when it shows that involve culture, that involve POC,
- 19:27a lot of their real estate has to be taken up. Doing things that
- 19:30are show that straight white people does not have to be done because the straight
- 19:36white people are the norm, and so you don't have to explain their culture
- 19:37to you. You can just tell a story. But Echo has explained the
- 19:41culture of the chat taw and then tell a story and be entertaining and do
- 19:45all these other things. So that's why when people are critical of these types
- 19:49of shows, I really am like, yo, relax a bit, you
- 19:53know, like this is a good ass show that did a lot more than
- 19:56what Iron Fist ever did in two seasons, which involved Asian culture. So
- 20:04it's really kind of disrespectful, you know what I mean, because it was
- 20:07like our inference was straight disrespectful to Asian culture over twenty six episodes. Wow,
- 20:12this was in four and a half maybe you know of time wise of
- 20:18real estate time hm, and had so much more to do. But people
- 20:22don't take that into account. A lot of people don't because and I get
- 20:25that, because that's a very inside Hollywood type of thing. To understand.
- 20:29You have to get you have to understand what it's like when someone says you
- 20:32have twenty two pages to tell this story, not twenty three. Mm.
- 20:37That matters, that that last page matters. So I don't give a shit
- 20:41with that last page. Ass you got twity too, bro, Yeah you
- 20:45know. But I will say, regardss of how anyone feels Disney has in
- 20:48Marvel. Disney Marvel has seen this as a success. Yeah, that was
- 20:52something, and it's been sus well, it was like the at least over
- 20:56what that few days period, at least or maybe even that first week,
- 20:59it was the most wide Disney plus show Marvel. Anyway, Man, we're
- 21:03just too critical, man. And it's opened the door for a Loqua Cox
- 21:08and again apology if I'm mispronouncing pronouncing her name, but it's opened the door
- 21:12for her continue, open the door for that character to continue and continue to
- 21:15be integrated into future Marvel stories. So I think it did what was supposed
- 21:19to do. Yep. And now you want to see us talk about something
- 21:22that didn't do what it's supposed to do What If season two? But they
- 21:30didn't do that one episode with the other indigenous character Ki episode prompt otherwise,
- 21:38forget it a boo from me. It's a boo for me. And I
- 21:44know sometimes we try to be careful about I'm gonna tell you my sentiments,
- 21:47my real life sentiments. I kept falling asleep over and over and over again.
- 21:56So I have saw because we we got the episode. We got the
- 22:00episodes a week ahead of time. Yeah, And so I watched the first
- 22:04half and then I think I I was right before New Year's right something,
- 22:07Yeah, it was before New Years. So I wrote the first half and
- 22:10then I went away for New Years yep, and properly forgot about it.
- 22:14And then like a week later, I was like, oh shit, I
- 22:15didn't finish what If? Did I That's not a good sign, not at
- 22:19all. What If Season one? And I know people are gonna feel completely
- 22:23different from me. Some people may agree what If Season one was Nah,
- 22:29it was for me. It did what it was supposed to do. It
- 22:33provided that additional view of the multiverse and what it means to have characters that
- 22:41you know and love but being presented in a different manner in a different world
- 22:45and having a different background technically too, and what that looked like and the
- 22:49creativity the fucking zombie episode. I don't even fucking like zombies and none of
- 22:56that shit, and that shit went hard, and shit was crazy and it
- 22:59was a fucking catalyst and was used with from fucking Sam raimy like like in
- 23:03a later movie. I'm just saying, like, there was just so many
- 23:07things that you could pick up. Obviously there's a child episode. Yes,
- 23:10there's the heart strings there. Okay, Wait, let's be clear. Sam
- 23:14Raimi was did not was not influenced by What If. Sam Raimi didn't watch
- 23:18nothing. He said that. He said no straight up here, he did
- 23:21not watch whatever. The nigga didn't watch WandaVision. He ain't watching What If.
- 23:23I know this. Nigga ain't watch this. No, no, no,
- 23:26we ain't doing that because that's not fair than people who made that what
- 23:30If. And it ain't fair to Sam Raimi for not making because because fuck
- 23:33that bullshit. Hell no no, I'm not giving that nigga that credit.
- 23:36No, that's not fair. The niggas did that and what If, and
- 23:40this nigga did what he did on his own. You don't. You don't
- 23:41have to give him the credit. The point is that there's clear rather on
- 23:47purpose or not, there's through lines there that made it easy. And that's
- 23:56a goddamn problem with because everybody want to answer you to be just like,
- 24:02oh, it was always condented, No nigga, These niggas don't give it.
- 24:07Sometimes it works out. Let's be clear. It was always connected fifteen
- 24:11years ago when it was one movie, that's who It was always pronected when
- 24:15it was Iron Man because they didn't have to worry about it was all connected.
- 24:19I won't okay. Once there was like two or a lot of time
- 24:22it was all connected. It is came I don't know what happened. No,
- 24:29No, it was never that. When you go back and watch any
- 24:32of the makings of it this is great series on Hulu. When they went
- 24:34back and they go back up to like past the first of injuries, it's
- 24:38always by the seat of their pants and they're always hoping this ship worked.
- 24:42So it's like they never really had. The overarching plan was Danos is going
- 24:48to show up at some point. That was the plan. It was nothing
- 24:56else, and then it worked out, and now it's not working out he
- 25:03can't win them all. But no, that's a proud you had an unbelievable
- 25:07streak with flying by the seat of your pants. It's like Lost being perfect,
- 25:11you know, it's like Game of Thrones being perfect. All these flew
- 25:15by the seat of the pants and didn't do it, even if not by
- 25:18a meticulous millimeter by millimeter plan. I'm just saying, don't. Yes,
- 25:22they were like, sure, it's some seat of the pants there, but
- 25:26we cannot see it. Act like there was no planning either. This was
- 25:29not nigga, let's write this next movie. That's not what I was saying,
- 25:38which was What If? Season one was that girl? So I was
- 25:45extremely excited to see What If Season two? And for me it was a
- 25:48ball and I can't Like I remember I saw the trailer. The animation look
- 25:53like they stepped up. This would be dope. I was somewhere around that
- 25:57hell up. So I was like, what the fuck is going on here?
- 26:00That's what the one I fell asleep on like three times, and I
- 26:04was like, okay, cool, cool, cool, all right, let
- 26:07me try this on my top, Like just why am I? Why is
- 26:11this happening? And it should not be happening like and I was really irritable.
- 26:17But one thing I do not like, and I know some people do
- 26:18like this, I hate them weird seasonal Happy Gold Lucky typoles, like literally
- 26:26the one featuring Happy but those types of things that are I don't give a
- 26:33fuck what it was. I hate that ship. I hate that that Christmas
- 26:37or holiday themes stuff. It pisses me off because it's just you're just trying
- 26:41to fit that very specific motif and it annoys me. And it's rarely done
- 26:45in a clever way that I like funck with, Like, oh, y'all
- 26:48really flipped that shit on his head? Cool? Cool cool to me.
- 26:49I was just like, here we go again, Like I just I just
- 26:52wasn't fucking feeling it then, all right, that one, that one I
- 26:55had to disagree that one because it was a Diehard tribute and I love Diehard,
- 26:59so it worked for me. Now when it didn't work for me,
- 27:02it is you probably fell sleep for this is later on in the season that
- 27:06Happy Dano's looking Nigga shows up again, and it really made no sense when
- 27:11he showed up again. Hope the Purple Hope Nigga, Happy Happy Hope,
- 27:15the Happy Hope, and it was like, why is he here again?
- 27:19I didn't like him the first time. Yeah, I don't know, said
- 27:25AKA happy hole Colgan. I ain't using it because that's I'm not in whole
- 27:29Cogan. I ain't using no, no, ain't no association here. But
- 27:34that feeling is what I felt through the whole thing, So I don't I
- 27:37don't know. Yeah, no, I like giving Yeah, I like that
- 27:40die Hardship, but that I didn't like that purple ship, and then when
- 27:42he showed up beginning, I didn't like it at all. So now annoyed
- 27:51they did such animation, still looked fucking fire. Everything's still beautiful. It's
- 27:56just the stories were lacking for me. So I'm looking forward to being for
- 28:03season three to redeem the legacy. I mean. The reason why because we
- 28:07saw they released like I think six stills and one of them was like a
- 28:10fucking Gundam and they merely got me that ship. I was like, oh,
- 28:12what the fuck? And then Sam Wilson's gonna be in one whatever,
- 28:15whatever, We'll see what happens. Boot a chance. I'm gonna watch the
- 28:22ship. The animations though, I'm gonna give it a watch, but you
- 28:26know, they're gonna have to. Really, they're gonna they hope they paid
- 28:29attention to the criticism. Let's say that you know they understand, you know,
- 28:33let's hope. But what crazy it's already done or almost gonna be done.
- 28:37I don't think so. I think they hyping that ship like that,
- 28:38but they just have a few images and like hair, what we're working on
- 28:42is not. I think they realized that season two was boo and they were
- 28:45like, yo, we gotta you know. I remember when they when they
- 28:49released and talked about season one, season two was already done. Kind of
- 28:53no that that wasn't exactly it was like they were working on Remember because season
- 28:57two contains an episode from season one that didn't get finished in top for season
- 29:03one, the Gomora that was like, but wasn't if I recalled, I
- 29:07have to look it up again. I recalled there being reports out a lot
- 29:10of it was done already or like or just maybe that's the fact that it
- 29:12was greenlit before season one was like fully even like out there they were like,
- 29:18oh, by the way, season two was definitely coming. I don't
- 29:19know, I don't know. This is a completely side note, but like
- 29:23right now, the NBA is on and super Sys. I'm just throwing away
- 29:27in my whole career right now. Anyway. I just try to say,
- 29:30it's really crazy the amount of like free Palestine from Hammer's commercials. Did you
- 29:36see, because I don't really see. I don't watch a lot of TV
- 29:40like that. Yeah, it's on American television right now, yes, like
- 29:44every commercial it's and and the Comar one Day got on right now where he
- 29:47fucks me up because it shows all these dope images of like this Middle Eastern
- 29:51country, like people partying, having a good time of all this stuff.
- 29:53And then it's like, this is what Palestine could be like if not for
- 29:56Hammers. And it's like, if not for is real keeping y'all on an
- 30:00open air prison. You know, I'm not sure which one, you know,
- 30:03came first, but I'm pretty sure the open air prison came first.
- 30:08Yeah, I don't really know. So, yeah, I'm throwing my career
- 30:12anyway. But it's always free power, start, free to Congo, free,
- 30:15you know, yeah, free all pressed people everywhere. And goddamn Israel
- 30:19be slick with they bullshit, boy Jesus Christ. I mean they learn from
- 30:22the best, right, you know. I like Sandwich that in because now
- 30:26we're gonna talk about Invincible, So get your politics and nerd culture here.
- 30:36It's just it's like I don't watch a lot of TV. You know,
- 30:38like basketball pretty much the only normal TV I watched where I see commercials.
- 30:42So it's like, what you know, like this, I don't got commercial
- 30:45I don't watch TV commercials at the game is at an all time loan,
- 30:53I'm gonna have to keeep selling Heroin just to make ends meet. Oh man,
- 31:00what happened to that dream? What happened to Michael? Yeah? Michael
- 31:06John White's the Western, His Western, Yeah came out. Yeah, I
- 31:15think coming this year. I think it's coming this year. The spiritual sequel
- 31:18of Black Dynamite. Man. I need that. I need that in my
- 31:22life. Boy, jeez, I don't know. I can look it up
- 31:23for you, but I'm still quoting Black Outlaw, Outlaw Johnny Black. Yes,
- 31:27Yes, down, log Johnny Black. What's it come on? Give
- 31:30me a release date? Please? I need that? Is that as a
- 31:36twenty twenty It says it as a twenty twenty three film. Mystery it was
- 31:45released. It was released to September this past September, September fifteenth, No
- 31:48fucking way. I'm about yes fucking way, it says outlaw. Johnny Black
- 31:52was released on September fifteen, twenty twenty three, in US and Canada.
- 31:56It opened. It opened in three hundred and seven theaters, what and gross
- 32:01the total of three hundred and nineteen thousand dollars. I it came out,
- 32:07I mean, I remember the trailer being like making some splash, a little
- 32:09bit of splash, and then never heard about it. So where is it
- 32:14available? All to streaming? You two for fort ninety nine, Amazon Prime
- 32:17for for ninety nine, Voodoo for six ninety nine, Apple t beef,
- 32:22and Google Play movies. All right, so the ourlog Johnny Black now available
- 32:25streaming. I cannot believe that that. Really we need to get Michael back
- 32:30on the show because that's ridiculous that that. I mean, I cannot imagine
- 32:34it not being another classic, Like I get it may not making you know,
- 32:37not a be in a theater smash. I don't expect this movie to
- 32:38be and I know he doesn't. This man makes his money. You know,
- 32:42we already talked to him on the show, and he knows how he
- 32:44makes his money. So that was just probably I'm not sure why you even
- 32:49put in a theater, probably just for you know, whatever reason. Before
- 32:52we get to the Invincible, I did want to also mention this reminded me
- 32:55talking about Black Creators that Michael B. Jordan is reuniting with Ryan Coogler to
- 33:01do a vampire period piece. When I say, yes, God, I
- 33:07mean it because I fuck with vampire stories and we're gonna get kill mongerl Back
- 33:13and and that tag team, if you will. So I'm looking forward to
- 33:19that. Like all I heard was black Man Vampire, and I was like,
- 33:22I was there, so I'm interested to see how that goes. But
- 33:24I didn't hear that. I heard. I heard period piece, and I
- 33:30heard like spy. I didn't hear vamp vampire. I'm sure there's other shit
- 33:32going on, but this specific is reported to be a vampire period that's dope.
- 33:38I just got excited like immediately, so I was like, yes,
- 33:42I'm here, uh And then yes, Invincible. They're annoying as fuck,
- 33:47Like I love the show and let me tell you and I know you know
- 33:50you've you've been a prolific reader of the comics and you know everything about it
- 33:54and all this other stuff. They they they aggravated me because they may an
- 34:00announcement on January twenty second to announce that the second half the season will be
- 34:05dropping March fourteenth, And I was like, way to drag it, because
- 34:07like, I didn't need an announcement for the announcement that we're gonna get it
- 34:12in a couple of months. Number one, right, and number two,
- 34:15it was like, was that a mistake for them to have such a I
- 34:20mean, let me back up for a minute. It takes time to make
- 34:22these Yes, it takes time to do this work. Okay, yeah,
- 34:25whether or not it's ready or not or I don't know, right, but
- 34:30didn't make sense for them to split the season up like this. I don't
- 34:34know. I think Okay, now, I think this is why they split
- 34:37the season up is because they were splitting this season up because they knew they'd
- 34:40been away for so long and they knew that there was still gonna be a
- 34:45little bit more time in between season two and season three. Now recently,
- 34:51but is it Skybound Strybounders Kirtman's trumpany they bought a studio in Japan, so
- 34:57they are really ramping up on the animation side, and they're gonna be cranking
- 35:01out a lot more things. With Invincible being such a hit and there being
- 35:07a lot of characters in the Invincible universe that they could exploit. I see
- 35:10them doing more shows and stuff like that. And I see, even though
- 35:14they haven't made an announcement, I bet season three probably drops around the same
- 35:17time this year as season two did, like you know, November December of
- 35:22this year of twenty twenty four. Okay, and then perhaps not do this
- 35:27break again because I think they see that people are pissed and that's why they
- 35:30bought the studio so they can crank up, you know, their output.
- 35:34Okay, Yeah, so I think this will be the last break and hopefully
- 35:37we start getting longer seasons, even maybe ten episodes at least, because Invincible
- 35:44goes on for a minute, like it's uh, I want to say sixty
- 35:51issues. That's a little longer than that, I think, actually know,
- 35:53it's what am I to about? Is longer than that? Som what year
- 35:58they come out on? Mid two thousands? Yeah, it's like over one
- 36:01hundred. I'm bugging the six issues only like five years of brand for like
- 36:06ten years, I think I can't remember. I'd have to look at trades.
- 36:10But where we're at right now with Invincible, with ainstrom Levy just being
- 36:15introduced and just getting blown up, where there's a there's just so much.
- 36:21There's a lot. And I keep saying this every time we talk about this,
- 36:24but there just really is. So I'm really anticipating to see where we're
- 36:30at at the end of these next four episodes. That'll let me gauge how
- 36:34much longer they could really stretch this out. For they could easily stretch it
- 36:38and correction. This series began early two thousands, ye early, Yeah,
- 36:43January twenty two, twenty, two thousand and three, two thousand and three,
- 36:46and it had one hundred and forty four issues. God damn. Yeah,
- 36:51And right now we are somewhere around like don't say issue too no there
- 36:58We're like, I don't want to. I have to go check, you
- 37:00know, but I don't want to say we're pasted, like fifteen twenty or
- 37:04so, I don't. That's still nowhere descrassing the surface. Still, yeah,
- 37:07because the comment moves, you know, it moves, like every six
- 37:10issues is a big change in status broke. Okay, no, but things
- 37:15have moved far and fast because the Guardians of the Galaxy get killed at the
- 37:21end of Guardians of the Globe. Globe, Yeah, Guardian Globe get killed
- 37:24at the end of six. I think, so certain things have moved faster
- 37:29in the show, and then certain things they've taken a little more time with.
- 37:32But they're like, as far as the amount of episodes, we're moving
- 37:37at a good clip. I know that. Yeah, we're moving through the
- 37:39story very you know, Like for the amount of episodes we've had, we're
- 37:43moving through it. It's just there's a lot of story, you know what
- 37:45I mean. Yeah, but we're moving through it quickly. They're not doing
- 37:47slow. The series ended in the series again started two thousand and three,
- 37:52it ended twenty eighteen. No, that was a major part of my life
- 37:57reading this book, Like you know what I mean that, Like I like,
- 38:01I tell people I saw Walking Dead on the shelves when it was Issue
- 38:05Too, and I was like, Oh, that's a dope title. What
- 38:07the fuck is that about? Pits it up? And then you know,
- 38:10started liking that book, and then either in the letters page or someone at
- 38:16the comment store was like, oh, if you like this, you should
- 38:19read his other book, Invincible. And then I picked up Invincible, and
- 38:22I was like, Oh, what the fuck and it's like, my favorite
- 38:27story about Invincible is after I finished it, well after that, I think
- 38:30this book was done by that point. Yeah, I think it was done.
- 38:32Guru Young Guru was asked me about some comics and I was like,
- 38:37yo, bro, you gotta check out Invincible. So he goes pits up
- 38:38the First Trade, comes home, reads it, calls me up. He's
- 38:43like, yo, what the fuck? Why you ain't tell me? And
- 38:45then he goes back to the common Store and buys the whole series. Yeah,
- 38:52And it's like and I was like, bro, if you think the
- 38:55First Trade, and that's why I keep telling everybody what we've seen so far
- 39:00are it's so light, work fair, It's so light. But where this
- 39:06series goes, I'm with it, Nigga. It's so light, Like it's
- 39:10like nothing has happened yet. That's what I mean, nothing of the overall
- 39:15story. It hasn't even begun, really, you know what I mean,
- 39:19The real story hasn't even started yet. We're like so stretching the service of
- 39:23where this book goes. Man, and I love it. And there's and
- 39:27like I was talking to another friend of mine about it, there's certain shit
- 39:30in this book that I don't think I've ever seen in any medium, you
- 39:35know what I mean that it's certain storylines that I just haven't seen. And
- 39:39if they've been done, they definitely haven't ever done that much. But I
- 39:42haven't seen them. And since I was talking about it, I was,
- 39:45I asked my boy about it. I told him what the storyline is.
- 39:47I won't say it on here, but I told him and he was like,
- 39:51that's wild. He was like, I don't even know if they can
- 39:52do that on the show. And I was like, bro, they have
- 39:54to because it's such a big part of Invisible story. They have to.
- 39:59It's just it's and this has broken a lot of like alleged things that they
- 40:04couldn't do, and they fucking did it, so they breaking them all.
- 40:07This is like some other ship and so, and there's a few things they
- 40:12do in the series that are, you know, pretty like interesting, but
- 40:15this is just this ain't even like some superhero I mean, it involves superheroes,
- 40:20but this is just some like real life ship that I don't ever see
- 40:23handled on spring or even talked about a lot. And whenever it is talked
- 40:29about, it is all I'll say too much there. But yeah, it's
- 40:31just not done and I want to see them get there, so I'm really
- 40:36happy for you. Yeah, what I mean like, this is a series
- 40:39that I think I'll be able to talk about a lot. I won't be
- 40:43like, Okay, you know that was cool. Let me move on,
- 40:45you know, d damn it, don't bother me about my Echo review.
- 40:47You know what I mean, it was like but invincible. I'll be like,
- 40:50all right, let's talk, you know, Because one, I love
- 40:52the book so much and there's gonna be some shit I really undering just how
- 41:00far I think and that storyline. I'm just talking about it so far ahead,
- 41:04but there's a storyline coming up that I think they might get to.
- 41:07But if they do this cliff anger at the end of the season, niggas
- 41:10to be so mad. I'll tell y'all that, y'all niggas be so mad.
- 41:15I'm already mad. Y'all gave me an announcement for an announcement. I
- 41:17mean, if this, if this ship ends all where I think it's for
- 41:22the end of four episodes, y'all motherfuckers to be so tight if they gotta
- 41:25wait that long to see what happens that because I was tight when it was
- 41:30a month a month for the coming and watching this show. Yeah, I
- 41:37don't think they'll end on that one. That's too long a gap, that
- 41:39that's too big a thing that happens for them to end. And wait,
- 41:47I tried to beat his ass and we waited a whole year. I understand.
- 41:53But my point is they don't care about making us wait. No,
- 41:57but that what I'm saying. That type of ship you can wait. What
- 42:00I'm talking about, the type of ship that comes up, you can't wait
- 42:02on the ship that like, That's why I keep telling you that. If
- 42:06I keep telling everyone that whole huh, it's gonna be so forgotten. You
- 42:10know what I mean? All those means, all that ship, all them
- 42:14niggas getting stroumotion in the subway. Nigga, who cares it is to be?
- 42:17It's minor? You know what I mean. It's like it's a blip,
- 42:24it's nothing, y'all say, ready for that? Like, that's what
- 42:30I mean. People, y'all need to go read the book. That's what
- 42:32I'm saying, because that type of ship is like, who cares like that?
- 42:37Yes, Oh, nigga beat his ass? What what? That's what
- 42:42I'm talking about? What I mean turns into the melting emoji. I mean
- 42:52a nigga again. His ass beats one thing, but you know we're gonna
- 42:55take a quick break. There's worst thing, second a fault. This man
- 42:59needs to gather his composure. We'll be right Ben. This is Yvon Chapman.

- 46:46the movie and they had this, uh it was like the wrap it up
- 46:51button from when niggas We're talking too long? Oh yeah, and so that
- 46:54he popped out with the wrap it up b. Don't you see the button?
- 46:59Wrap it up? I'm gonna make you wrap it up because I want
- 47:02to get to the rest of this these topics with this show as well.
- 47:10I'm sorry one last when I was thinking about, you know, years ago,
- 47:14when we had a guess just walk out on us, and I was
- 47:15just wonder to could I just do that one day? But like ye,
- 47:19I'm I'm done show. No. I think about it very very rarely,
- 47:24but sometimes I think about that. But but I always remembered I wasn't our
- 47:28fault. He came back later, he said, he said he just he
- 47:30just wasn't. Man. We can say it now. It was like a
- 47:34million years, but he was just like I just wasn't feeling. But then
- 47:37he came back with like a day or so later, so it's just funny
- 47:40to me. But he gave us a classic drop that we can't use anymore
- 47:43because it was our old name. But Homeboy saying band was a great guest.
- 47:46But yeah, he straight up yo. We were sitting in the studio
- 47:50with this man. He was like, I'm sorry, y'all question I think
- 47:54and he was like I can't do this, and we got to ask him
- 47:58a question. I think I just said how are you okay? Intros and
- 48:00maybe said how are you? And that was like that was enough. He
- 48:05was like, actually I got to step out, and and in my heart
- 48:08I was like, damn, well we deets in this nigga was like,
- 48:10oh fuck with this ship. I didn't know who he was and still kind
- 48:15of but I didn't know who he was. I mean, I know,
- 48:20long story short, he was a guest given to us and that day that
- 48:25hour something was going on internally he wasn't there with it. But then he
- 48:30came back and we had a great interview like we always do. So yeah,
- 48:34whatever, yep, but no, I just sometimes I think about that
- 48:37and could I just get up and walk out him? You can do that
- 48:39when you're in guests on other people's podcasts. Oh yeah. In fact,
- 48:44I don't know you've never done it so far, but like I would encourage
- 48:46you. I had the opportunity to do it last night. Shout out to
- 48:50Drunk Back History and American Colins. But but you like the bunk. We
- 48:54liked the blunk blunk drunk Black History guys like guy now, oh we like
- 49:01them, so just be a singular too. Them could be using, but
- 49:13the point is with them, so that's the right. Well. Yeah,
- 49:16shout out to Drum Black History of American Collins. I was on their revamped
- 49:21I was on the inaugural episode the Revamped vers the revamped version of drump Black
- 49:27History to podcast, and I distrust one of my favorite people in the world,
- 49:30mister Jimmy Hendris himself. And that episode will be dropping a week from
- 49:36by the time you hear this. So thanks for burying well, burying the
- 49:39lead and giving away the big reveal because I did not know that that is
- 49:44now who knows, well, I don't think anyone did, but they did.
- 49:52I think that's the point of the episode. You literally just sag episodes.
- 49:59I'm like, Okay, was he supposed to tell me this? I
- 50:04probably I forgot, you know. Yeah. I mean even if you did
- 50:07it for for me to affect My point is you got to walk out on
- 50:10at least one interview in your life that wasn't the one. I'm going to
- 50:15do it now. That's what I said, and that's why I met Like
- 50:16I said, oh, we fuck with them or him like you probably wouldn't
- 50:20do it anyway, but yeah, I gotta do it. I'm one hundred
- 50:23percent sure you and me or one of the other will be put in a
- 50:29situation where we got to get up and fucking walk the fuck out. So
- 50:32I'm looking forward to it. I feel like I've done it before at some
- 50:36point, but I guess I haven't. No, Yeah, I bare to
- 50:42even walk out of movies. But yeah, anyway, speaking of movies,
- 50:46the astronoms came out and let me just you know, do my annual thing
- 50:51of saying that you know, the Oscars and most awards are basically meant to
- 50:55placate play kate is at the word plackate plakate. That was right, Look
- 51:00at that placate people, and even they're historically said that if you uh,
- 51:06it was some producers like if I, you know, give people a bunch
- 51:08of useless trophies, they'll make They'll do any movie I ever wanted to do.
- 51:15So I'm reading on home much thoughts to them, And the other side
- 51:17of it is that they're really a huge popularity contest. People think that the
- 51:22actual people vote on them, and in some cases they do. Like I
- 51:25was speaking to a friend of mine who's the industry and he was telling me,
- 51:29I'm not gonna name anyone because I want to put you out there.
- 51:30But they were like, no, I voted for this, and I voted
- 51:32for that, and it just didn't get part of the voting body, like
- 51:37randoms could vote. But that is sometimes the people are part of the voting
- 51:42body are pretty busy and they might just hand it off to an assistance,
- 51:45yes, or to a friend. Yes, those are still industry usually not
- 51:50all the time. Sometimes it industry related, like it could be an assistant,
- 51:52which technically is interestingly related, but also like are you really direct?
- 51:58Are you qualified qualified yet? I mean, I'm sure you're learning, and
- 52:01that's why you're an assistant but you know, but it is what it is,
- 52:05so and that's what I mean. It can be a very huge popularity
- 52:07contest, as is the case. I mean, we there's some stuff well
- 52:10that people have issues with, But I want to talk about the animated future
- 52:14that was near and dear to my heart this year, and the nominations were
- 52:19Pnemona, which is on Netflix, Fantastic Fantastic, We talked about it,
- 52:24which is a beautiful, absolutely beautiful film. One of those films is pushing
- 52:30animation, you know, further and further, which I always love, and
- 52:34story and I mean story, this is a great movie, you know what
- 52:37I mean, Just like that's the thing. It's like, I don't even
- 52:38think of that. It's like animated. It's just a great movie film,
- 52:43Yeah, great movie, Spider Verse. I mean just what we what did
- 52:49we say when we left that this is probably one of the best films period.
- 52:52Yeah. To me, that is insulting that it's not nominated for Best
- 52:55Film of the Year. Like that's one of the ones where it should be
- 52:59not just best animated film, it should be best Film of the Year.
- 53:02And I think that's a problem, and especially considered this isn't a popularity contest,
- 53:07and as popular as across the Spider Verse is, it should be up
- 53:10for Besson over the year. I can see that, you know, Elemental,
- 53:15I haven't seen. I liked Elemental, so this is probably maybe a
- 53:20popularity thing as well. Yeah, because while I don't think in terms of
- 53:25just strength of just an incredible film, I put the Mona in Spider Verse
- 53:30above, but I but Elemental was still a good animated feature, So I
- 53:35think it. I think it deserves There's a lot of good ones out there.
- 53:37Ye, well, we'll talk about that in a second. Yeah,
- 53:40the Boy and the Heron, the boy in their heron, Sorry, by
- 53:46the by the legend, mister Hio Miyazaki. I haven't seen it yet,
- 53:53but everything that man touches his golden so you know, okay, everything peaky,
- 53:59the lyrics on the line, you know, down the line. They
- 54:02got a goddamn what is it? A studio Ghibli sestion on a fo Max
- 54:08just press play fan and I've never been disappointed. You know, there's days
- 54:14I'll be like, oh, let me watch this random joint. Another classic
- 54:16classic? Wow, another classic, you guess, Yeah, because there's not
- 54:23President Monica. There's another one about this little Girl that I watched last year
- 54:29and I'm like another classic you know well. Also nominated was a Spanish animated
- 54:37feature called Robot Dreams. I did not. I have not seen this one,
- 54:40but now I want to look at look at it because they said that
- 54:44that was actually a big surprise. Pablo Berger's Spanish animated film it hald have
- 54:49made a major buzz dot com. So okay, I cut that out,
- 54:52you know, go to those you know, special streaming services as are called.
- 54:57And then you know the one that I shout out to my brother,
- 55:02my writing partner, my fan for life, my brother for life, Mellow
- 55:07Brown put me onto this one, Blue Giant, which is an anime from
- 55:09Japan about three young college age dudes who form a jazz band. And ah
- 55:22like as a musician, as someone who's you know, life is dedicated music.
- 55:27Ifec'ly, there's not a lot like Whiplash, right, I always go
- 55:31about the Whiplash and then the director turned around the la la language I had
- 55:36still seen. I really enjoyed Whiplash as a film, but it absolutely gets
- 55:40jazz just wrong. I mean, just like Buddhist man forever you thinking you
- 55:46knew anything about jazz or anything about music or anything like it's just so wrong,
- 55:52you know, it's just so weirdly wrong too. And it's like this
- 55:55obsession with timing and everything being so rigid when this is jazz, like the
- 56:01very opposite of that. And so then a film like Blue Giant, which
- 56:06just gets the joy and the passion and the pain and everything about what it
- 56:13takes to become a musician and to dedicate your life to something, and then
- 56:19just the revelation of performing and just everything, the emotion, the story,
- 56:24the journey's tids go on is like Mellow Halls in his Favorite from Me the
- 56:29Year. I never it's hard for me to always say this is my one
- 56:31of the year, you know, because different films for different things. You
- 56:34know, That's that's always tough for me. But goddamn it, it's you
- 56:37know, top five that are alive, Like easily, it's a fantastic film.
- 56:42I just encourage. It's like when I saw r R, I'm like,
- 56:45go fucking see Blue Giant. You know, when you have a chance,
- 56:47get one. Yeah, And when you get really when you specifically get
- 56:52really excited about films, I typically take key not to say that you don't,
- 56:55but like when you're like constantly like no, no, yeah, it's
- 56:59not it's not like it's like it's all r R. Like I watched it
- 57:01again the other day and I was like, god tack. And then the
- 57:06fucking shit. You know, he posted like a quick clip on Twitter and
- 57:08it looked insane, so like just like the how they framed how music moves
- 57:15and looks and sounds. And I was like, oh, okay, this
- 57:19this looks like my cup of tea. So I'm gonna be watching it and
- 57:22it takes a second to get into it. I won't lie because it was
- 57:24like the first thirty minutes and so I was like, mellow, why is
- 57:27this your movie the Year? And I was like, oh, like maybe
- 57:30thirty five minutes. I was like, oh, okay, that's what your
- 57:31movie the Year? Okay, you know the shop late, I get it.
- 57:37I called him up afterwards and he was like, no, yeah,
- 57:40that was the point when I got it too. You know. I was
- 57:43like, up until that is cool, and then it's like oh okay.
- 57:47And it might hit people different ways, but that was for both of us.
- 57:50It was about thirty minutes in and then it's like the last hour or
- 57:53so of and it's just like it's just you know, I was in tears
- 57:55By then, It's just it's a fucking movie, man. Damn that Yeah.
- 58:02Obviously, the billion dollar movie Barbie got a few OSCAR noms and controversy
- 58:09along with it. Ryan Gosling, who played Ken, He got a nomination
- 58:14for Best Supporting Actor. And I listen, not my not my business,
- 58:22my business, And ironically enough, Margot Robbie, who played the titular role
- 58:28of Barbie, did not. Neither did Greta Gerwig, who was the director.
- 58:34As far as your question as to why I also not my business,
- 58:37not my ministry, Greta deserved a sure, Robbie, why not? I
- 58:43mean different one? My thing is the only logic, like put everything else
- 58:46aside. The logic is and and again the ironic nature of it is,
- 58:51like, damn, the movie even touched upon that whole thing about patriarchy and
- 58:54ignoring the woman, and like, literally, harb, you nominated Ken.
- 59:02This niggas is like word that that ship is crazy, and it was like,
- 59:06damn, the irony is lost upon you, guys. It's just at
- 59:09all, it's not a purpose like but that's kind of damn. Really,
- 59:19I really am happy though that one thing that I'm actually personally like excited about
- 59:22is the fact that it got nominated for like set design and things like that,
- 59:27Like that set design went went crazy, it went hard, so like
- 59:32that that whope absolutely wins. I don't know there, you know, did
- 59:36you never know? There's some hard ones in the case hard, Yeah,
- 59:39I don't even know what the other one production production people like. First of
- 59:43all, I have an affinity for things for production in general and everything that
- 59:46goes into it and attention to detail and the eye just like saying, hohow,
- 59:50I feel about costuming because I like fashion, but all of that,
- 59:53all of that background work, that's everything. So I'm really excited about that
- 59:59for them, that said, that does not end the controversy. So in
- 1:00:01all of this, there's this big uproar about yo, where's the nomination from
- 1:00:06Margot or Greta. But then people also kind of ignore the fact or didn't
- 1:00:10realize that America Ferrera also got nominated. She was also for that film.
- 1:00:15She got nominated for Best Supporting Actress. So it was getting annoying for me.
- 1:00:21Again, Twitter has been a very aggravating place for ever, for well
- 1:00:27more so than in the past for me. Personally, like it's just very
- 1:00:30aggravating and it's very negative. And I tend to like actually spend a little
- 1:00:35time on there now, but I literally for weeks this last week, it's
- 1:00:39just always been, you know, oh my god, why didn't y'all you
- 1:00:44know, understandably, why did y'all nominate Margot Greta? This is about Barbie?
- 1:00:47And then people are saying, oh my god, why y'all not given
- 1:00:51shine to America, like you know, she's a Latina actress and she got
- 1:00:55a nomination and why y'all white women crying and this and that, and then
- 1:01:00Ryan Gosen's in the middle of like what the fuck is going on? Like
- 1:01:01you know what I mean, Like it's just I wake up, like,
- 1:01:05fuck Ryan Goss. Funny, it's this funny it's this funny meme video that's
- 1:01:08going around of when they were at the Golden Globes and like the camera it's
- 1:01:13like, I guess they won something on their table and the cameras zooming in
- 1:01:15slowly on Ryan and Ryan's looking around real confused, like what's going on?
- 1:01:19And they keeps showing that throughout this whole opera on Twitter, and you know,
- 1:01:25I I will say that Ryan. Did you know he put like a
- 1:01:29little, a little speech out that he said, thank you for the denomination.
- 1:01:32However, Comma, you know what happened with my colleagues. I think
- 1:01:38they deserve too. And America did something similar. She's you know, she
- 1:01:42was like, you know, she was disappointed. She was just like,
- 1:01:45you know, in her head, that didn't make sense how y'all did that.
- 1:01:47But apparently you know why, Ben So I know they were trying to
- 1:01:51be petty. That was weird though, that's like a kind of a weird
- 1:01:54time to be petty. It's like it's it's nothing to be petty about.
- 1:01:57And made a billion dollars over a billion dollars, like I can put it
- 1:02:00out there. I think that's it's no. I think those are awards the
- 1:02:05money it made. I don't like I've talked about the before and I don't
- 1:02:07want to go back over, but I just did not think that movie deserved
- 1:02:10any nominations, Like I think greater than a fine job. I think,
- 1:02:14like you said, the said direction, it wasn't And I gave the movie.
- 1:02:17I think I gave it a C. Like I was okay, yeah,
- 1:02:21like let me let me take the back, like I would give a
- 1:02:22nominations just on the fact that, you know, like because I really don't
- 1:02:28think much of the Oscars, you know. So that's why we were like,
- 1:02:30yeah, if I give them all nomination, who cares? And I
- 1:02:32don't and I can't and last year I can't. I don't. There was
- 1:02:37it wasn't like when r like like that. And this is what came up
- 1:02:39to me that day when they were talking about this, right, like r
- 1:02:43R for all the greatness of this film gets reduced to a goddamn musical nomination.
- 1:02:47Yeah, you know what I mean. Like, that's why it's like
- 1:02:50I can't take these seriously and I can't think of them as like I don't
- 1:02:53care because r baits on everything on every level, and it turned into oh,
- 1:02:59look at the brown people dancing. You know. In fact, when
- 1:03:04I posted on threads about it the other day, somebody was like, yeah,
- 1:03:06great action and really funny. Now you know this was a white dude,
- 1:03:09and I just I couldn't respond. I was like, oh, I
- 1:03:12never thought of this movie is really funny. I mean there's funny parts,
- 1:03:15but you know, I never was like, yeah, that's not what you
- 1:03:17know, But I mean, I'm not will never cape for a white guy,
- 1:03:22but does that make him wrong and feeling that way, like if that's
- 1:03:24his lens that he's Many people otherwise felt that too, and I did respond.
- 1:03:30I was like, okay, cool, I didn't I didn't know people
- 1:03:32that this is permeded. But you know my man talking about load ain't fire?
- 1:03:37Yeah, I mean there was, there was. There was definitely comedy
- 1:03:39too. There was definitely a comedic element elements. Yes, there's comedians all
- 1:03:45throughout it. I brought it. Niggas was one. Niggas legs didn't wear
- 1:03:49that. Nigga's arms didn't worse, so they put on like each other's shoulders,
- 1:03:51like come on, Ben, that ship is fucking funny like and they
- 1:03:54know it's funny, which is why they fucking did it, why they played
- 1:03:57it like that. I think what you also maybe alluding what you are saying
- 1:04:02but also alluding to, is the fact that people are also missing the genius
- 1:04:05behind it, and it's I guess, in the way that they're communicating about
- 1:04:10it, it's a reduction versus an observation and also building further upon an observations.
- 1:04:16They're just saying something very plain and not really going any further, I
- 1:04:19think that's what you're really Yeah, because like even to the scene of the
- 1:04:23arms and the legs is foreshadowed early when they're working out together, and it
- 1:04:27seems like some goofy shit, but it shows how much these two are already
- 1:04:30bonded and then how much they support each other. And so it's like that's
- 1:04:35the thing, is like people take this goofy this that which the movie does
- 1:04:39have, but then they forget that this is an anti colonial film which has
- 1:04:43all huge thing to say about that, you know, and ends with the
- 1:04:46blood being splattered over the British Empire. Like it's yeah, you know,
- 1:04:53that's what I mean. And so, yeah, I just don't like Barbie
- 1:04:58is like, you know, a cool fling, you know, sure,
- 1:05:00give him some noms whatever, but it's like it looks, it looks,
- 1:05:03it does look great. It looks great, and and what's the name does
- 1:05:06a great Barbie and Westerna does a great kid. And I like Margot Robby
- 1:05:11as an action Yeah. I love Margot and I love Ryan for that matter.
- 1:05:15Yeah, and Ryan always there's there's rumors he might be playing Nova Nova.
- 1:05:23Yeah, I was wondering what happened Nova, because they now sitting in
- 1:05:26the kind of like, yeah, I don't again, that could be just
- 1:05:29word on the street type rumors. I hope not ship but like nothing,
- 1:05:32but but they pop up. So I don't read enough Nova comments to know
- 1:05:36about Dick Rider to know if he's a great character. Look, I'm going
- 1:05:41to take every opportunity to call that man Dick Rider. His name is Richard
- 1:05:44Ryder. I thought you was fucking around that. No, Nova's real name
- 1:05:51is Richard right writer. Yeah, so I don't know enough about Dick Rider
- 1:05:56the series because because because Jackie Ryan really wants to be a Dick writer.
- 1:06:06This is I mean, these jokes will right themselves, folks been I mean,
- 1:06:15please contain yourself. I got like, what do you mean, I've
