- 0:00Speaker 1: Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
- 0:08Speaker 1: What so.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Proudly we hailed at the twilight's.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Last gleaming And the rocket's red.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Glare, the bombs bursting in air.
- 0:25Speaker 2: It's US Open week.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Show me perfect tennis.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Wow.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Oh, no way. Welcome back to Podlaver Arena with me,
- 0:34Speaker 1: Mike Goldstein, and my little buddy, Samuel Taunton. I am
- 0:38Speaker 1: your little buddy.
- 0:40Speaker 2: It is. Little, little, little.
- 0:42Speaker 1: The U.S. Open is in full swing. We are deep
- 0:45Speaker 1: in the first round as of recording. Obviously, the headline news,
- 0:50Speaker 1: Novak Djokovic will talk all things Djokovic and his health troubles.
- 0:57Speaker 1: And then also Alcaraz looking back in form immediately.
- 1:00Speaker 2: We're just back, to be honest, which is exciting.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Yeah, back in the New York groove. Sabalenka, obviously, you know,
- 1:07Speaker 1: some questions about her coming in, but she had an
- 1:10Speaker 1: easy first round match. All the big names on the
- 1:13Speaker 1: women's side seem to be cruising, but we'll get into
- 1:15Speaker 1: that a little bit later.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Mike, huge news. You were in the Novak documentary. Have
- 1:22Speaker 2: you got a sound effect for that? Slay! This is crazy.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Here it is. So I look over approvingly at him laughing,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and it's wow.
- 1:38Speaker 2: And did you have to sign anything?
- 1:41Speaker 1: Here it is again. We get a good look. Oh,
- 1:44Speaker 1: look at that.
- 1:45Speaker 2: There's chemistry.
- 1:45Speaker 1: There's undeniable respect and chemistry between me and nobody. I
- 1:49Speaker 1: think so.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Have a look at that look. I mean, the look
- 1:51Speaker 2: you're giving him just suggests that, like, I think you're thinking,
- 1:54Speaker 2: I love you.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Well, as long as we cut what Andy Lee says before,
- 1:59Speaker 1: I want to say I just told a joke and
- 2:01Speaker 1: Novak is losing it laughing. He is losing it.
- 2:05Speaker 2: To be fair, his eyes have closed and you can
- 2:08Speaker 2: see the mouth is open and he's thinking, what a
- 2:09Speaker 2: great time I'm having.
- 2:10Speaker 1: He's having a great time. And the thing is, I
- 2:13Speaker 1: did not sign a release, so I will be suing
- 2:16Speaker 1: Novak Djokovic.
- 2:17Speaker 2: You should do. I think so.
- 2:18Speaker 1: For putting me in his documentary.
- 2:20Speaker 2: But also- It's the best thing to happen to your career,
- 2:22Speaker 2: but still to him.
- 2:23Speaker 1: And dude, I remember when he had the team in
- 2:26Speaker 1: filming the documentary.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Oh.
- 2:28Speaker 1: And I said, you have to call it the documentary.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:31Speaker 1: And he just kind of gave a polite little- Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:34Speaker 1: He kind of went, uh-huh.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:37Speaker 2: This guy. So did you, can you walk me through,
- 2:40Speaker 2: did you see yourself watching or were you alerted by
- 2:43Speaker 2: text messages from friends being like, oh my God, you're
- 2:45Speaker 2: in the documentary? Yeah.
- 2:47Speaker 1: The documentary. I got text messages from friends. So yeah.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And how did you feel? Cause it's gotta be like,
- 2:53Speaker 2: it's gotta be like, I mean, you've had a great life,
- 2:55Speaker 2: but top 10 things to happen.
- 2:57Speaker 1: It's pretty good. But what they didn't get in this
- 3:00Speaker 1: very interview is he kind of puts me in a
- 3:02Speaker 1: headlock after I get a question, right. Which we have,
- 3:05Speaker 1: You've been to my place. It's framed and the still
- 3:09Speaker 1: picture of it. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Pride of place
- 3:12Speaker 1: over all my wedding photos.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Over any photos of my family.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Of course, rightly so.
- 3:16Speaker 1: It's Djokovic putting me in a friendly headlock.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah. They should have kept it. I guess it doesn't
- 3:20Speaker 2: paint him in the best way. They cut to him
- 3:22Speaker 2: and he's just like giving you a nookie.
- 3:25Speaker 1: But the can I use Amazon Prime as a credit
- 3:30Speaker 1: now on all my TVs?
- 3:31Speaker 2: I don't see why not.
- 3:34Speaker 1: The first time I met him. uh was the previous
- 3:37Speaker 1: year the year before that so like we're on a
- 3:39Speaker 1: first name basis now yeah a few times uh he
- 3:42Speaker 1: was absolutely oh i've heard this story visibly sick.
- 3:46Speaker 2: And didn't you didn't shake his hand or something i.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Didn't shake his hand i'm a germaphobe and he was
- 3:50Speaker 1: like dripping snot and he was like and he went
- 3:53Speaker 1: to shake my hand and i was like and then
- 3:57Speaker 1: i'm like sanitizing even just being near him and then
- 4:00Speaker 1: i just sit next to him and uh yeah and
- 4:03Speaker 1: everyone's giving me a lot of shit saying this is
- 4:05Speaker 1: one of your absolute heroes an icon yeah and you
- 4:08Speaker 1: uh didn't shake his hand because you didn't want the sniffles.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I mean yeah but it is i mean it's a
- 4:14Speaker 2: great conundrum to find yourself in to like meet your
- 4:17Speaker 2: hero or get really ill.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Before we get into the U.S. Open proper, it's been
- 4:25Speaker 1: a little while since we've recorded, and there's a few
- 4:27Speaker 1: things I want to touch on in the Cincinnati Open.
- 4:31Speaker 1: We were maybe midway through the last time we did
- 4:34Speaker 1: a podcast. A few notes. The Medvedev-Nakashima match with Nakashima
- 4:40Speaker 1: winning that. Medvedev was very petulant, was kicking mics over
- 4:47Speaker 1: in the back of the court. He was complaining a lot.
- 4:49Speaker 1: And he was also up a set 5-4-40 love and
- 4:53Speaker 1: still managed to lose to Nakashima. But my favorite part
- 4:56Speaker 1: of the match was Chair Empire Muhammad Layani. When a
- 4:59Speaker 1: baby would not stop crying in the stands, he got
- 5:02Speaker 1: everyone's attention and he looked over to where the baby
- 5:06Speaker 1: was and he said, please give some love to the baby.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Please.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Do you think Aj Barker could learn a thing from him?
- 5:15Speaker 1: Please give some love to the baby.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Give some love to the baby.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yeah, dude. If we can get that as a soundbite
- 5:21Speaker 1: and then please.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Wait, you saying it though? You saying it is pretty.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Please give some love to the baby.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like an old Motown singer.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Please give some love to the baby.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Ladies and gentlemen, please give some love to the baby.
- 5:34Speaker 2: All the babies out there.
- 5:37Speaker 1: And it's the most polite way of kind of saying.
- 5:39Speaker 2: It's like saying you've got to get the baby out.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Get out.
- 5:41Speaker 2: The best way to give love to the baby is
- 5:44Speaker 2: outside the stadium.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Please leave with the baby.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Please go to the foyer of the stadium because that
- 5:49Speaker 2: is the best place for love.
- 5:51Speaker 1: To give love to the baby. And then, of course,
- 5:54Speaker 1: Medvedev and Winston Salem had his meltdown where he said
- 5:57Speaker 1: he might quit and play pickleball.
- 5:59Speaker 2: You know, it's a common thing that's going to happen.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Pickleball.
- 6:02Speaker 2: It's an easy way out.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Yeah. And then in his post-match, he won his first
- 6:05Speaker 1: round of the U.S. Open. He said, oh, maybe around 37.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I'll think about switching to pickleball or something.
- 6:11Speaker 2: If only someone could give the same advice to Venus Williams.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Or Novak, maybe.
- 6:17Speaker 4: Well, yeah.
- 6:18Speaker 1: We'll get into it. We'll get into it. The other
- 6:20Speaker 1: notable things that happened in Cincinnati, Tommy Paul taking out
- 6:24Speaker 1: Zverev in the round of 16. Fies and Straits over
- 6:28Speaker 1: Diminar in the same round. Sabalenka not finding her form
- 6:32Speaker 1: yet in Cincinnati, where she went out to Sarah Bailick
- 6:35Speaker 1: in straights in the round of 32. She had a
- 6:39Speaker 1: lot of chances along the way, then Bailick got absolutely
- 6:42Speaker 1: stomped by Coco Gauff in the semis. Iga Sivantek showing
- 6:47Speaker 1: the form that she had in Canada. a walkover, well,
- 6:51Speaker 1: against Rebecca in the quarterfinals, and then losing to JPEG
- 6:56Speaker 1: in three tight sets in the semis. So when Iga
- 7:00Speaker 1: Sivantek was playing Jessica Pugula in the semifinals, this one
- 7:04Speaker 1: I recorded because I didn't see it pop up on
- 7:07Speaker 1: any tennis socials anywhere else. I loved what I caught
- 7:12Speaker 1: after Sivantek has an easy sitter to stay in the set,
- 7:17Speaker 1: first set, She just absolutely fucks it up, dude.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Bait that, bait that.
- 7:26Speaker 1: So here it is, like, their ball's floating up. Just
- 7:29Speaker 1: put it away into the court.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Oh, that rules.
- 7:31Speaker 1: She just ditches it into the net there.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Oh, the fist bump!
- 7:35Speaker 1: The fist bump, but then the reactions. Look at the
- 7:39Speaker 1: people behind her. That face is amazing. That lady with
- 7:42Speaker 1: the red hair is fantastic. Her realizing how lucky it
- 7:45Speaker 1: was that Pagoula missed that. This reaction here. Oh, hands
- 7:48Speaker 1: over the eyes. This guy, hands on the head.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 7:51Speaker 1: And then I love this expression from... him in the
- 7:55Speaker 1: player's box.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Yeah yeah yeah yeah oh you take it when you
- 8:01Speaker 2: can get it man oh wait that last one before
- 8:04Speaker 2: the clip went out the um the the blowing out
- 8:07Speaker 2: the the lips going oh.
- 8:08Speaker 4: Yeah yeah yeah it is but that's what makes the
- 8:14Speaker 4: game great like she must have hit I mean, it's
- 8:17Speaker 4: crazy to think how many times she could do that
- 8:19Speaker 4: with her eyes closed with two broken legs.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:22Speaker 2: And just for whatever reason, it just didn't happen.
- 8:24Speaker 1: On a windy day, maybe you could be like, oh,
- 8:27Speaker 1: the wind started to pull it back. No, no, no, no.
- 8:29Speaker 2: It's like so automatic with like the amount of muscle
- 8:32Speaker 2: memory she would have. It's just part of it. And
- 8:34Speaker 2: the fist pump to it is ridiculous. Red hot.
- 8:37Speaker 1: In the finals at Cincinnati, Fies over TFO. It was
- 8:42Speaker 1: a real topsy-turvy affair with Fies getting it done in three.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Big Foe going out. But then now in the U.S. Open,
- 8:51Speaker 1: Fies went out in the first round. And TFO got
- 8:54Speaker 1: through a weird opening round match to Martin Dahm. But
- 8:58Speaker 1: the final on the women's side, Coco Gauff taking out compatriots.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Jessica Pagula in the final.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Huge for Coco.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and the last time Coco won Cincinnati was in
- 9:10Speaker 1: 2023 where she went on to win the US Open.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Is it a sign?
- 9:16Speaker 1: Here's the thing. We picked our ladies for just, you know,
- 9:21Speaker 1: for a gentleman.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like a Saturday night type situation.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. We picked our ladies. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 2: We just picked our ladies. Yeah, Errol sent us a
- 9:30Speaker 2: website and we just kind of Just had a look through.
- 9:33Speaker 1: We picked our ladies for the tournament. I took Siobhan
- 9:36Speaker 1: Tech for the U.S. Open, I should say. Yes, yes, yes.
- 9:39Speaker 1: You took... You took... I don't know.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Even saying ladies makes it sound crazy.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Picked our women?
- 9:46Speaker 2: I think picked our women maybe is better.
- 9:48Speaker 1: You took Svitolina, and E-Roll took Marta Kostik.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Yes.
- 9:53Speaker 1: So the rule is you just can't take the one, two,
- 9:56Speaker 1: or three seeds so that's no Sabalenka or Bacana or
- 9:59Speaker 1: Jess Pagula no one took Coco.
- 10:02Speaker 2: We left Coco Coco was still yeah she's on the
- 10:05Speaker 2: table still I was I was in the gym if
- 10:09Speaker 2: I'm being honest when the when the messages came through
- 10:11Speaker 2: and I misread properly in hindsight I would have taken
- 10:14Speaker 2: Coco but I don't regret I believe in myself in
- 10:17Speaker 2: my gut what were you doing in the gym Deadlifts
- 10:20Speaker 2: at the time.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Picking other ladies. The 250 event in Winston-Salem the week
- 10:30Speaker 1: before the U.S. Open kicked off. Ignacio Booz over Arthur
- 10:34Speaker 1: Ferry in straights. And at the WTA 500 in Mexico,
- 10:39Speaker 1: Dionne Perry over Elise Martins, her first title. So let's
- 10:44Speaker 1: get into the U.S. Open. Hey.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Is that new, that one?
- 10:57Speaker 1: I don't know. I just hit a button. So the
- 10:59Speaker 1: US Open kicked off with obviously qualifying week, but then
- 11:03Speaker 1: they had a bunch of exhibition events. I don't know
- 11:05Speaker 1: if you saw Andy Roddick play Roger Federer.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Roddick is our rival in the podcasting space.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Fed took out Roddick 6-3. And I mean, it was
- 11:15Speaker 1: great seeing these guys play again. It just kind of
- 11:19Speaker 1: looked like they were playing in slow motion.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's kind of like, I do like the
- 11:23Speaker 2: exhibition energy of these fallen greats. Not fallen, I shouldn't
- 11:28Speaker 2: say fallen. I mean, like, you know, retired greats. They
- 11:30Speaker 2: went out on top and it's exciting. You get to
- 11:32Speaker 2: see them and then it's a bit more watchable and
- 11:34Speaker 2: they seem more human, which I think everyone likes.
- 11:36Speaker 1: It's true, but they still have that competitive vibe. dry
- 11:38Speaker 1: they're all psychos and Brodick the bane of his tennis
- 11:42Speaker 1: career was Roger Federer yeah like he would have won
- 11:44Speaker 1: way more slams had it not been and now he's
- 11:47Speaker 1: in New York playing an exhibition ruining his retirement losing
- 11:50Speaker 1: a set 6-3.
- 11:51Speaker 2: But Fed can't host a podcast and he's not in
- 11:54Speaker 2: movies about pickleball True. He's just a billionaire.
- 11:58Speaker 1: So, yeah, that was one of the exhibitions. The other
- 12:00Speaker 1: was the Mixed Doubles, which we were talking about a
- 12:04Speaker 1: couple weeks ago because some of the pairings were just crazy.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Are you calling the Mixed Doubles exhibition? Well, it's... Do
- 12:11Speaker 2: you know what I mean? It's a valid part of
- 12:13Speaker 2: the tournament, but now it is an exhibition side of
- 12:16Speaker 2: the tournament.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Seemingly it's there for star driven publicity and it sidelines
- 12:23Speaker 1: actual mixed doubles specialists, right? By the, some of these pairings,
- 12:26Speaker 1: you know, uh, Serena and, and Alcaraz and, uh, I mean,
- 12:32Speaker 1: and Djokovic who went out immediately.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Um, so with this mixed doubles, the thing I kind
- 12:38Speaker 2: of don't understand and I kind of, I did definitely
- 12:40Speaker 2: generate interest, but like how, how has this happened in
- 12:43Speaker 2: the U S open that, that we've ended up with
- 12:46Speaker 2: these superstar pairings did the us open put them together
- 12:48Speaker 2: have they enticed these players to to kind of join forces.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah and they're framing it as innovation to revive a
- 12:56Speaker 1: neglected event but they're giving preference to these superstar pairings
- 13:00Speaker 1: um in lieu of mixed double specialists yes who you
- 13:04Speaker 1: know have been playing these tournaments for years and i
- 13:08Speaker 1: guess it it effectively did revive.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Some interest um people were talking about it.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Yeah and i mean the fact that it seems to
- 13:15Speaker 1: be their answer to the one point slam we did
- 13:17Speaker 1: here at the australian open uh i mean for me.
- 13:20Speaker 2: The one point slam was more obviously it's compelling yeah
- 13:23Speaker 2: and i think historically will be remembered more.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And craig tyler please come back yeah we miss you
- 13:28Speaker 1: we miss you craig so yeah so there is some
- 13:32Speaker 1: controversy surrounding it but then uh i mean i'm happy
- 13:36Speaker 1: the mooch and mensik won a million bucks before the
- 13:38Speaker 1: tournament began proper.
- 13:40Speaker 2: What do you think about so also reducing to four
- 13:43Speaker 2: sets as well in the meet so it's very much
- 13:45Speaker 2: like changing the goalposts of of a like of a
- 13:48Speaker 2: game do you know what i mean like it is
- 13:50Speaker 2: a huge thing for the u.s open.
- 13:51Speaker 1: To a whole subset of matches like yeah it's.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Like messing with it's not like messing with singles obviously
- 13:57Speaker 2: but like it is still somewhat like this is an
- 13:59Speaker 2: important part of people's tennis lives and I imagine there
- 14:02Speaker 2: are a few people out there, I don't know where
- 14:04Speaker 2: they are, that when they watch tennis... They want to
- 14:07Speaker 2: watch mixed doubles and that's their favorite part of tennis.
- 14:11Speaker 2: And I wonder how they feel about having had a
- 14:14Speaker 2: knife get slashed to it to turn it into a
- 14:15Speaker 2: version of 2020 cricket.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I mean, I do understand US Open's thinking.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I completely understand. And it did bring a lot of
- 14:23Speaker 2: interest to it. And I was kind of like, how
- 14:24Speaker 2: cool is that to see, you know, these top players
- 14:26Speaker 2: playing together or these legends playing together.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, it's all fun and games until someone
- 14:30Speaker 1: rolls an ankle, you know, playing a mini set. on
- 14:34Speaker 1: the week before the US Open.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, and then it won't be happening.
- 14:37Speaker 1: It didn't happen, and the Mooch and Mensik looked sick,
- 14:40Speaker 1: and they're matching, and they're the only ones wearing matching outfits.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they took it seriously.
- 14:43Speaker 1: They took it seriously.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Yeah, they had a team spirit.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Yeah. So that was all the kind of lead-up stuff.
- 14:49Speaker 1: There was doubles with Augustine Roddick losing to Federer and McEnroe, 7-5.
- 14:54Speaker 1: They had a fun little set there. Federer hit this
- 14:56Speaker 1: around-the-back volley that was absolutely insane that he still has this.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Do you think Federer could still compete? Or would he
- 15:04Speaker 2: be just out in the first round every week?
- 15:06Speaker 1: I'd think out there.
- 15:06Speaker 2: It's hard to know.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Yeah, well, they asked him. They go, look, Venus is
- 15:09Speaker 1: still out there.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Yeah, but not a great comparison. I mean, Venus is
- 15:13Speaker 2: out there, but.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Is she there? For all intents and purposes, she is
- 15:16Speaker 1: physically out there.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Yeah, she's filling out the entry form. She's doing that much.
- 15:21Speaker 1: But they asked him and he was like, no, no, no, no.
- 15:23Speaker 1: He was like, I don't have any time anyways. I'm
- 15:25Speaker 1: running this.
- 15:25Speaker 2: I'm a billionaire.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I'm a billionaire. I got a shoe empire.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I'm a shoe guy.
- 15:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:29Speaker 1: It's, you know, 20,000 bucks to shake my hand.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Do you think he still cries much?
- 15:34Speaker 1: When's the last time you cried?
- 15:35Speaker 2: Well, in my work, it's the same. I love my
- 15:37Speaker 2: work as much as he probably loves his work. So yeah,
- 15:39Speaker 2: I cry every time after I do this podcast, I cry.
- 15:42Speaker 2: And I'm so thankful I get to hang out with
- 15:44Speaker 2: you guys.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Oh, so it's a joy cry.
- 15:46Speaker 2: It's a joy. He mainly joy cries. Sabs will do
- 15:50Speaker 2: like proper sad cry when she loses. And it can
- 15:53Speaker 2: be kind of quite hard to watch. Obviously a joy
- 15:56Speaker 2: cry is much better to watch from an athlete. But
- 15:59Speaker 2: a sad cry when you lose, that's hard to take.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Well, speaking of sad cries, Novak Djokovic. He realized he
- 16:11Speaker 1: was completely cooked in that fifth set against Mario Navone.
- 16:16Speaker 1: And people... Getting behind Novak is kind of a rare
- 16:21Speaker 1: thing throughout his career. And so the New York crowd
- 16:24Speaker 1: chanting for him and getting behind him, the emotions eventually
- 16:28Speaker 1: welled up when he was down a break in that
- 16:30Speaker 1: fifth set.
- 16:31Speaker 2: It actually makes me sad as well.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Man, this was a tough match to watch. This was... Suffering.
- 16:37Speaker 1: This was a challenge.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Physically, he was suffering. Mentally, yeah, look at that. That's
- 16:43Speaker 2: the vomit.
- 16:44Speaker 1: The ectoplasm. It's a hell of a vomit. Yeah. And
- 16:47Speaker 1: he was doing this in the- Thank.
- 16:49Speaker 2: God they put the replay on that as well. And
- 16:51Speaker 2: the slow-mo, sorry?
- 16:52Speaker 1: Slow-mo.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Why did they have to slow-mo the vomit? No one's like, oh,
- 16:55Speaker 2: we didn't see the vomit come out properly.
- 16:58Speaker 1: The V-A-R. The V stands for vomit. Vomit. Yeah. Yes, again.
- 17:05Speaker 1: It's too much. So gross. And it's like, obviously, there's
- 17:09Speaker 1: something physically going on with him.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Yeah, it's because he's nearing.
- 17:13Speaker 1: No, he's 39. Are you saying it's age? It's just age?
- 17:16Speaker 2: Well, no, but people age in different ways, right? And
- 17:20Speaker 2: he's arguably played more tennis than anyone because he's played
- 17:22Speaker 2: more matches. Yes, he probably hasn't played as... I wouldn't
- 17:25Speaker 2: be able to get his full schedule up for the
- 17:28Speaker 2: last 20 years in my head, but... He's played a
- 17:30Speaker 2: lot of tennis over his life.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Right.
- 17:31Speaker 2: People's bodies break down in a different way.
- 17:33Speaker 1: So you think this is 20 years of full schedule
- 17:36Speaker 1: tennis causing this physical condition right now?
- 17:39Speaker 2: Potentially, yeah. Yeah. You don't think so?
- 17:41Speaker 1: I don't know. He's just been such a freak with
- 17:43Speaker 1: his conditioning and everything in the past that it just, 39,
- 17:48Speaker 1: I mean, to me now, it seems like, you know,
- 17:52Speaker 1: youthful heyday. Yeah.
- 17:54Speaker 2: He's in his prime.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:55Speaker 2: I also think it could be a mental thing because
- 17:57Speaker 2: I think of all the, you know, this guy is
- 17:59Speaker 2: like a Jordan-esque, you know, there's probably only a handful
- 18:02Speaker 2: of like crazy competitors in the history of any kind
- 18:04Speaker 2: of sports like Djokovic. And I think mentally there would
- 18:08Speaker 2: be a disconnect as he's starting to find his body
- 18:10Speaker 2: not doing the same thing. And he's probably covered it
- 18:13Speaker 2: for the last three or four years with like crazy,
- 18:16Speaker 2: like tennis IQ almost, being able to change game plans
- 18:20Speaker 2: and adapt his His game to kind of cover those areas.
- 18:22Speaker 2: And then finally, it's getting to a point where he can't.
- 18:25Speaker 2: I know he made the final in the Australian Open.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Finals in the Australian Open, round three at the French,
- 18:32Speaker 1: and then semifinals at Wimbledon. So he's clearly not done.
- 18:35Speaker 1: These are best of five matches in the summer league.
- 18:38Speaker 2: I know, but my point is the decline is huge.
- 18:41Speaker 2: You can't deny that the decline's not there. Like, it's obvious.
- 18:44Speaker 1: But this seems to me like something more than just
- 18:46Speaker 1: being 39 years old and a lifetime of tennis. This, like,
- 18:50Speaker 1: vomiting on court, the inhaler, obviously his back went out
- 18:56Speaker 1: late in the match. He's just like, it's... And he
- 18:59Speaker 1: said afterwards he despised every moment on court. It's tough
- 19:05Speaker 1: to watch.
- 19:05Speaker 2: But that is like, I know I quoted a lot,
- 19:07Speaker 2: the Agassi book, He talks about in the final hours
- 19:11Speaker 2: of his career, not final hours, but like the back,
- 19:13Speaker 2: deep in the back nine.
- 19:14Speaker 1: The twilight.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Yeah, the twilight. How horrible it was in the sense
- 19:18Speaker 2: of not horrible, like they love tennis, but it's like
- 19:22Speaker 2: that competitive grind does take its toll. And I think
- 19:24Speaker 2: there'd be a mental effect that goes to your body,
- 19:26Speaker 2: but your body's so programmed, it doesn't know what else
- 19:28Speaker 2: to do.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:28Speaker 2: And you just, it would be, I can imagine it
- 19:31Speaker 2: would be, you'd be out there for four hours losing, vomiting.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 19:34Speaker 2: You inhalers going for the first time. You're so confused
- 19:37Speaker 2: for the first time in your career. The crowd is like,
- 19:38Speaker 2: we love you. And you're like this. I've never been
- 19:41Speaker 2: worse than I am right now.
- 19:43Speaker 1: But this was four games in to the match. I know.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Yeah. that's bad.
- 19:46Speaker 1: When he started to show that he was ailing and
- 19:48Speaker 1: he wasn't feeling right. When he started, he looked like
- 19:51Speaker 1: the Djokovic of old.
- 19:52Speaker 2: So what are you suggesting? That he has a serious
- 19:54Speaker 2: mental condition that he's not revealing?
- 19:57Speaker 1: Well, there's something going on more than just being 39
- 20:00Speaker 1: years old and then a lifetime of tennis. I know
- 20:02Speaker 1: he hates the humidity, and New York is disgustingly humid
- 20:05Speaker 1: in late August, early September. I think this is not
- 20:09Speaker 1: the last we see of him. I don't think he
- 20:11Speaker 1: plays any of the events for the rest of 2026.
- 20:14Speaker 2: We get him back next year.
- 20:16Speaker 1: I think he plays next year. He's talked about playing
- 20:21Speaker 1: the next Olympics, which is.
- 20:23Speaker 2: I get the Olympics, which the next Olympics is 2028. LA, right? Yeah.
- 20:30Speaker 2: But I kind of don't get why.
- 20:33Speaker 2: I could see a case for retiring right now.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Because... I.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Doubt he's got another slam in him. If he does,
- 20:41Speaker 2: it's going to be crazy. To play or to win?
- 20:44Speaker 1: To win. That's what I mean.
- 20:46Speaker 2: To win. So it's like, he would love playing. The
- 20:49Speaker 2: Olympics make sense because you want to represent your country.
- 20:51Speaker 2: It's a team thing. But you've kind of got to,
- 20:53Speaker 2: I guess, keep up your skill level and the amount
- 20:56Speaker 2: you're playing to keep doing it. But like, what's out there? Like,
- 20:59Speaker 2: what is out there for you besides a victory? You
- 21:02Speaker 2: see Stans on his victory lap at the moment and
- 21:03Speaker 2: that kind of looks like a cool way to do it. But,
- 21:06Speaker 2: If you're Novak, I'm like, he doesn't, like that doesn't look,
- 21:09Speaker 2: he can't be doing that. And it can't be that,
- 21:11Speaker 2: that can't be what he, that can't be how he
- 21:14Speaker 2: goes out.
- 21:14Speaker 1: But look at everything else this year. If you say
- 21:16Speaker 1: a final, a round three, a semi-final, and then first round, okay.
- 21:20Speaker 1: But then this is because of some kind of underlying condition.
- 21:24Speaker 2: No, but I'm saying, dude, it's like dog years. You
- 21:25Speaker 2: know how like dog years are quicker? When you get
- 21:28Speaker 2: to the back end of your career, it's quick. Like
- 21:31Speaker 2: it decreases. Like what's the famous one in cricket? Adam
- 21:34Speaker 2: Gilchrist says he missed a ball and he edged it
- 21:37Speaker 2: and he knew immediately he had to retire. He was like, oh,
- 21:41Speaker 2: that's my instincts. My eyes are gone now. I have
- 21:43Speaker 2: to retire. And I don't know if it's the same
- 21:45Speaker 2: in tennis, but I think you will see. Like, I mean, yeah,
- 21:49Speaker 2: he's 39. You're saying 39 like, oh, he's a whippersnapper.
- 21:51Speaker 2: I know people play into their early 40s, but it's like.
- 21:54Speaker 1: I'm not. I'm saying this year he's had results that
- 21:57Speaker 1: belie this first round loss.
- 21:59Speaker 2: But also when he got. In the Australian Open, everyone was, like,
- 22:03Speaker 2: super shocked he got to the final.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, it stars a lining thing that Mazzetti withdrawing
- 22:09Speaker 1: from the match when he was winning at the AO.
- 22:12Speaker 1: This one, you know, he would have gone into the U.S. going, well,
- 22:15Speaker 1: Sinner's not playing. You know, he's a guy I can't
- 22:18Speaker 1: get through outside of the Australian Open this year. Alcaraz
- 22:23Speaker 1: is questionable with his wrist. You know, like, Zverev just
- 22:27Speaker 1: seemed to be, like, the biggest... The next one, yeah.
- 22:30Speaker 1: But then, I don't know, this was, for me, like,
- 22:35Speaker 1: I probably went through it more than November. Because as
- 22:41Speaker 1: you saw from the documentary, we're very close.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Oh, that's so true. I forget that this is why
- 22:46Speaker 2: you're being so defensive because of your close personal connection.
- 22:49Speaker 1: But I'm not saying this means retire. I mean, I
- 22:53Speaker 1: don't think. It's back.
- 22:56Speaker 2: This just plays on a loop in your head.
- 22:57Speaker 1: That is just like electric chemistry between two men at
- 23:01Speaker 1: the top of their game. Well, or maybe in the
- 23:03Speaker 1: twilight of their game.
- 23:04Speaker 2: This is like a freeze frame where he goes, and
- 23:06Speaker 2: that's the moment I knew I was getting sick.
- 23:09Speaker 1: He hasn't felt right since this. You did it. He
- 23:13Speaker 1: actually vomited right after that shot.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Anyway, look, I hope he'll play again, obviously, and hopefully
- 23:22Speaker 2: in Australia. But, like, I'm just not– it's like, yeah,
- 23:25Speaker 2: this is– I think there's more results like this in
- 23:28Speaker 2: store potentially. And you're right, it could be the humidity,
- 23:30Speaker 2: and he's getting older, and that's affecting him more. He
- 23:32Speaker 2: did well in Wimbledon, but, you know, grass is quicker.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I think– You could use more of your tennis smarts
- 23:38Speaker 2: and experience.
- 23:38Speaker 1: The British summer, maybe not as brutal.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Not as brutal. It's definitely drier.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't know.
- 23:43Speaker 2: It's just, I guess this will be things, like, we
- 23:47Speaker 2: shouldn't be surprised when this kind of happens, I think.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Yeah, of course. I understand. Father Time is undefeated and
- 23:52Speaker 1: all that. Well, also, I don't know.
- 23:54Speaker 2: People love to say Father Time is undefeated. It's kind
- 23:57Speaker 2: of not. Like, he did make the finals... Like, it
- 23:59Speaker 2: is undefeated at the end, but you can beat it
- 24:02Speaker 2: a bit. No one ever talks about the wins along
- 24:05Speaker 2: the way against Father Time. It's only when Father Time
- 24:07Speaker 2: finally wins that everyone goes, well, it's undefeated.
- 24:10Speaker 1: It is. Well, it's not undefeated.
- 24:12Speaker 2: It is.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Of course it is.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Undefeated is a perfect record.
- 24:15Speaker 1: It is a perfect record.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Well, so every time you play Father Time, right?
- 24:19Speaker 1: Yeah. You might win some battles, but he wins the war.
- 24:22Speaker 2: No, the problem, Father Time's got a great loophole, because
- 24:24Speaker 2: if you beat Father Time, then they go, oh, you
- 24:26Speaker 2: weren't actually playing Father Time.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:28Speaker 2: And then when you finally lose, you're like, oh, that
- 24:29Speaker 2: was Father Time.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Of course.
- 24:30Speaker 2: He's undefeated. But it's like, tell me when Father Time
- 24:32Speaker 2: is showing up and I can prepare for Father Time.
- 24:34Speaker 1: You're only as good as your last match and Father
- 24:36Speaker 1: Time wins that last match.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm like, it's not fair that I don't
- 24:39Speaker 2: see Father Time's name on the sheet. So I know
- 24:41Speaker 2: it's Father Time.
- 24:42Speaker 1: You do know when it's Father Time.
- 24:44Speaker 4: How do you know?
- 24:44Speaker 2: So is that Father Time?
- 24:45Speaker 1: Well, Algaraz isn't playing Father Time. Yeah, of course. But
- 24:49Speaker 1: he will be.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So you have a rough idea in
- 24:51Speaker 2: scheduling when Father Time, when you might draw Father Time.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:55Speaker 2: But was that Father Time that Novak played?
- 24:57Speaker 1: Venus, Father Time is owning Venus.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Well, Father Time's been drawing him in the first round
- 25:03Speaker 2: for quite.
- 25:04Speaker 1: A few years. I don't like getting old. So this
- 25:09Speaker 1: stat is absolutely crazy. For the first time in 23 years,
- 25:13Speaker 1: the second round of a Grand Slam won't have One
- 25:16Speaker 1: of the big three, Fed, Nadal, or Djokovic.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Oh, of course. Yeah, that's crazy.
- 25:22Speaker 1: So I believe Ben Shelton was born 23 years ago.
- 25:25Speaker 1: So it's like.
- 25:26Speaker 2: And what a joyous day.
- 25:27Speaker 1: What a joyous day.
- 25:28Speaker 2: I mean, I guess we've always talked about the changing
- 25:31Speaker 2: of the guard, but that very much really solidifies it now. Yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 2: That's crazy. A crazy stat.
- 25:36Speaker 1: It's nuts. So, I mean, yeah. Father time undefeated. But
- 25:42Speaker 1: so that match was hard to watch. It was just
- 25:45Speaker 1: like painful. I noticed, we'll get to Sabalenka in a bit,
- 25:49Speaker 1: but when I watch her matches, she's just like going
- 25:51Speaker 1: through it and she looks like so just, I mean, grim.
- 25:56Speaker 2: With... I mean, I'm starting to vibe that. I'm kind
- 25:59Speaker 2: of with the people that are saying her social media
- 26:01Speaker 2: is getting.
- 26:02Speaker 1: In the way for tennis.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I'm starting to think I'm like, you need to just
- 26:06Speaker 2: become an influencer.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Well, she is sensitive about that fact because in her
- 26:10Speaker 1: post-match press conference, after she got through her round one easily,
- 26:14Speaker 1: a journalist asked her, like, do you feel like you've
- 26:16Speaker 1: been a bit distracted lately?
- 26:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a great question.
- 26:19Speaker 1: She snapped a little bit. What is the question there?
- 26:22Speaker 1: I'm curious with. And he just meant like all the
- 26:24Speaker 1: US Open pomp and circumstance that surrounds the tournament. Yes,
- 26:28Speaker 1: of course. But she, I think, takes anything going, hey,
- 26:31Speaker 1: you spent a lot of time on socials.
- 26:34Speaker 2: I think the only way is she has to release
- 26:35Speaker 2: her screen time numbers.
- 26:37Speaker 1: You want to see those screen times?
- 26:38Speaker 2: I want to see the screen time.
- 26:39Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 26:39Speaker 1: And tennis time?
- 26:40Speaker 2: Tennis time versus screen time. I mean, their data's there.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Her team would have tennis time and her little iPhone
- 26:46Speaker 2: would have screen time. Put it out there. Put the
- 26:49Speaker 2: rumors to bed.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Ha ha ha ha. Uh, the absolute agony of watching
- 26:54Speaker 1: Djokovic was offset by the unfettered joy of Alcaraz smiling
- 27:00Speaker 1: on court, having a great time. He was a bit
- 27:02Speaker 1: tentative up the top and like, it was kind of
- 27:04Speaker 1: taken him a bit to get through service games, but
- 27:07Speaker 1: then a routine win over a tricky player, Roman Saffron.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Straight sets. He looked good. I, you know, like the
- 27:13Speaker 2: ring rust, I guess there's probably a little bit there.
- 27:15Speaker 2: There's always going to be that there, but maybe he did.
- 27:17Speaker 2: I mean, we've been speculating for ages. About when he's
- 27:20Speaker 2: coming back or what the injury is like. Why is
- 27:22Speaker 2: he growing his hair like that? Mentally, is he in
- 27:24Speaker 2: the right space? And maybe he was just like, what's
- 27:26Speaker 2: the point in coming back? Wait, let's just wait. I'll
- 27:29Speaker 2: just put, I'll pencil the US Open in. Not even pencil.
- 27:33Speaker 2: I'll use pen. That's when I'm coming back. And I
- 27:36Speaker 2: don't really care about the lead up to that. That's
- 27:38Speaker 2: my hope because I'd love to see him go deep.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Do you know what I mean?
- 27:41Speaker 1: Yeah, of course. I mean, he's won the US before
- 27:44Speaker 1: and then obviously he needs playoff. points after being out
- 27:47Speaker 1: since april.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Or you're still seated number two yeah and the okay
- 27:52Speaker 2: oh yeah we could talk this is the biggest story
- 27:54Speaker 2: in tennis.
- 27:55Speaker 1: The nipple has been a talking point i'm all for
- 27:58Speaker 1: it man hang that nip bro.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Well i think one of the great joys of being
- 28:02Speaker 2: a man you know and maybe this is it's unfair
- 28:05Speaker 2: but you can have your nipple out almost whenever you
- 28:07Speaker 2: want yeah there's very few occasions besides a black tie
- 28:10Speaker 2: dinner yeah where a male nipple will cause offense and
- 28:13Speaker 2: And in this case, it's being very much celebrated across
- 28:16Speaker 2: news sites across the world.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Celebrated? I think tennis stuffiness is like, put that nipple away.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Not according to our producer, Errol, who immediately put it
- 28:26Speaker 2: at the top of our little Word document. It's like, Carlos,
- 28:29Speaker 2: back his nipples out.
- 28:30Speaker 1: I mean, we don't need to see the hair follicles.
- 28:33Speaker 1: The follicles.
- 28:35Speaker 2: He shaved the nipple, actually.
- 28:36Speaker 1: That's Braille for going to win the US Open.
- 28:41Speaker 2: Imagine if there's a message in there. We get someone
- 28:45Speaker 2: in to read it.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Oh, my God. An expert. What are you doing? Yeah,
- 28:49Speaker 1: there we go. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Can I say, though, if we're going to keep objectifying him,
- 28:53Speaker 2: hair looks good.
- 28:54Speaker 1: I think he looks great.
- 28:55Speaker 2: I think he looks real good.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I mean, then I realize how much we missed him
- 29:02Speaker 1: on the tour, watching him play this match, play his
- 29:04Speaker 1: brand of tennis. hit shots you don't see anyone else do,
- 29:08Speaker 1: be as fast as he is. And I don't know
- 29:11Speaker 1: if you remember earlier this year, we were like, oh man,
- 29:13Speaker 1: is the tournament going to just be boring when it's
- 29:16Speaker 1: a foregone conclusion, when it's Sinner or Alcaraz? But now
- 29:19Speaker 1: I'm like, thank God.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Yeah, the answer is actually no, because the opposite is
- 29:24Speaker 2: far worse. It's kind of a bleak, unknown... Whereas at
- 29:27Speaker 2: least there's an excitement level if you have these two
- 29:30Speaker 2: horse race and then you have contenders that could take
- 29:31Speaker 2: them out. It's much more exciting. And you're right. I
- 29:34Speaker 2: think it's the way he plays that obviously has drawn
- 29:37Speaker 2: fans worldwide. Like he's so captivating and he does things
- 29:40Speaker 2: that kind of people don't do and even more than
- 29:43Speaker 2: Sinner like there's a bit more I don't want to
- 29:45Speaker 2: say star power because that's maybe offensive to Sinner but
- 29:49Speaker 2: there's something about Carlos that really draws people to watch
- 29:52Speaker 2: him play and it's probably the nipple I think you're
- 29:54Speaker 2: right it's probably the nipple staring you in the face
- 29:56Speaker 2: it's the nipple but it's so good to have him
- 29:58Speaker 2: back oh.
- 29:58Speaker 1: My god The close-ups of the nip. Yeah, Errol, Errol.
- 30:02Speaker 1: He's giggling away. He is giggling.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Jesus.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Is that a kit problem? Does Nike need a tighter tank?
- 30:09Speaker 2: I don't think it's a problem. Like, what is... Yeah,
- 30:11Speaker 2: the nipple just came out. He's not wearing... What, do
- 30:13Speaker 2: you want the guy to wear a bra?
- 30:14Speaker 1: It's not a Janet Jackson level wardrobe malfunction.
- 30:21Speaker 2: The stars are out.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:22Speaker 2: JT's doing it. No, it's not a... It's just... That's
- 30:24Speaker 2: just part of how it is. And it's an... I mean,
- 30:26Speaker 2: it was coming out all match, but... You know, it's fine.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Enough nipple talk. Yeah.
- 30:31Speaker 2: What happened to skins for those shirts? That's how men
- 30:33Speaker 2: used to roll.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Just going to be interesting to see what happens in
- 30:40Speaker 1: Alcaraz's next match. Was there soreness in the wrists? Well, yeah,
- 30:44Speaker 1: Kenny Last. Kenny Last. I mean, he looked awesome.
- 30:46Speaker 2: It's a hectic thing he's wearing as well. I know
- 30:48Speaker 2: we focused on the nipple and the hair, but it's like...
- 30:51Speaker 2: It looks like that's a bit of work that goes
- 30:53Speaker 2: into getting ready for the... Yeah, it's like a full sleeve.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Not a cast, but like some kind of compression thing.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I guess. But he wasn't really holding back in the match.
- 31:01Speaker 1: He was, you know, hitting the forehand at pace and
- 31:04Speaker 1: was serving well the whole match. So we'll see. He
- 31:06Speaker 1: comes up against Jamé, I think is how you say
- 31:09Speaker 1: his first name, Faria in the next match. So yeah,
- 31:12Speaker 1: he was a... A spicy player, let's say.
- 31:16Speaker 2: A spicy player?
- 31:17Speaker 1: Yeah, he loves to talk some smack.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Okay.
- 31:21Speaker 1: And then also in his player's box, Travis Scott in
- 31:25Speaker 1: Alcaraz's player's box.
- 31:26Speaker 2: That's exciting.
- 31:27Speaker 1: This is because of a Nike crossover shoe branding deal
- 31:32Speaker 1: that's happening. There's an Alcaraz Travis Scott Nike shoe where
- 31:36Speaker 1: the swoosh is backwards.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Well, I mean, that's important stuff. There hasn't been enough...
- 31:41Speaker 2: I think celebs, yeah. I mean, Shelton had, I think
- 31:44Speaker 2: Jimmy Fallon was at Shelton's game. But I haven't seen,
- 31:47Speaker 2: I want to see them all out and about. I
- 31:49Speaker 2: guess as we get further into the tournament, you start
- 31:52Speaker 2: seeing the big A-listers come out.
- 31:54Speaker 1: I mean, there's been a few. They'll start rolling out
- 31:57Speaker 1: deeper in the tournament.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Maybe this is my interpretation. I don't understand the American
- 32:01Speaker 2: media or sports or fame landscape. But I saw a
- 32:04Speaker 2: headline and it was like, Lindsey Vonn spotted at the U.S.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Open.
- 32:07Speaker 2: I'm like, is Lindsey Vonn that famous?
- 32:09Speaker 1: She's pretty big.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Winter Olympics, I'm like, but is she that famous that
- 32:12Speaker 2: she would deserve her own headline?
- 32:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Wow.
- 32:15Speaker 1: She's huge. They love her.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Okay.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. Winter Olympics is big business in the States.
- 32:19Speaker 2: I guess, of course, it is big. Yeah, well, yeah,
- 32:20Speaker 2: of course.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Yeah. And other results from round number one. Well, let's
- 32:26Speaker 1: talk about it with Drew before even playing a match.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Kasper Ruud out, Cilic out, and sadly for the Aussies,
- 32:33Speaker 1: Kakanakis out. withdrawing with an ankle injury before playing Hodar. So,
- 32:38Speaker 1: I mean, maybe he dodged a bullet there. But speaking
- 32:42Speaker 1: of Kokonakis and the other Aussies, let's just talk about
- 32:45Speaker 1: the Aussies who are through to the second round. Taylor
- 32:47Speaker 1: Preston beating Alicia Parks. Duckworth, great win over Arnaldi, who's
- 32:52Speaker 1: the 30th seed. at the tournament. Maya Joint over Samsonova.
- 32:57Speaker 1: She's had an up-and-down year, but she is through to
- 32:59Speaker 1: the next round.
- 33:00Speaker 2: My favorite name in tennis, Maya Joint. Maya Joint is
- 33:02Speaker 2: sore if.
- 33:03Speaker 1: She was Italian. She plays your pick, Svitolina, next.
- 33:06Speaker 2: I know, and then Nerv. Is it too late to
- 33:08Speaker 2: get back to Coco?
- 33:10Speaker 1: Well, Svitolina, surely.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Well, no, Maya Joint. You've got to get on the Australian, maybe.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Poppy over Demi. That's Alex Popperin over Grigor Dimitrov in
- 33:20Speaker 1: four sets. Kim Beryl is through. Sweeney over Moutet, because
- 33:25Speaker 1: Moutet withdrew from the match.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Best way to go, in my opinion.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and then today, School Kate beat Basavareti. So, I
- 33:34Speaker 1: think there's a rain delay as we speak, but we'll
- 33:37Speaker 1: look at some results happening right now.
- 33:39Speaker 2: They're always playing at some point today.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Yeah. The match that I did not expect to be
- 33:47Speaker 1: as interesting as it was. was our boy Terence Atmane.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Oh, the great man.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Went out in five to Munar, but this was not
- 33:56Speaker 1: short of drama in any way whatsoever.
- 33:59Speaker 2: He was kind of like, I would say, losing his mind.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Yeah. He was kind of.
- 34:06Speaker 2: He was saying he had... He didn't have cramping. He
- 34:09Speaker 2: was saying he was in pain. Yeah. I mean, a
- 34:10Speaker 2: common problem that we see with players. But really getting
- 34:13Speaker 2: quite aggressive about it and saying he knows the difference
- 34:17Speaker 2: and kind of... I don't know.
- 34:18Speaker 4: He looked.
- 34:19Speaker 2: You were talking about Novak looking in distress. I think,
- 34:21Speaker 2: as we know, he's a complex guy and there's a
- 34:23Speaker 2: lot going on in his head. He's very intelligent. But
- 34:25Speaker 2: I think, you know, he was kind of maybe trapped
- 34:28Speaker 2: in his brain.
- 34:28Speaker 1: For a little bit. Well, so the whole... The rule
- 34:31Speaker 1: that if it's cramping, it's a conditioning issue, so they
- 34:34Speaker 1: can't treat it with a physio. And him saying, this
- 34:37Speaker 1: isn't cramping. Ant-Man was saying, I'm not cramping. And he
- 34:40Speaker 1: kind of yelled at the physio.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Well, I think he thought he's... Because he's so smart.
- 34:43Speaker 2: I think he thought he had found a perfect logic thing.
- 34:46Speaker 2: And he was saying... I know that I can't receive
- 34:48Speaker 2: treatment for cramping, which is why I've called out the doctor.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Because why would I call out the doctor to deal
- 34:55Speaker 2: with my cramping? Because you're not allowed to do that.
- 34:57Speaker 2: So I think he was like, aha, I have got
- 34:59Speaker 2: you perfectly.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Checkmate. Excuse me, can you just give me treatment and
- 35:03Speaker 1: then stop acting stupid? Is it possible to have some
- 35:09Speaker 1: common sense? I tell him I have pain. Why is
- 35:12Speaker 1: he saying no? I have pain. Yeah, but it's my body, right?
- 35:17Speaker 1: I have one on both there, so I need treatment, please.
- 35:24Speaker 1: What do you mean, come on, man?
- 35:28Speaker 2: I tell you I have 10 months of an election.
- 35:31Speaker 1: It's not parenting. I have pain. P-A-I-N. Oh, that helps. Yeah,
- 35:37Speaker 1: I know the rules. That's why I'm asking you. That's
- 35:39Speaker 1: why I'm calling you because I know I cannot get
- 35:40Speaker 1: for cramp.
- 35:41Speaker 2: See, I think he thinks he's one with logic.
- 35:45Speaker 1: It's not terrible. I mean, but then you got the
- 35:49Speaker 1: physio going, no, it's cramp. It's cramp. What's your credential?
- 35:58Speaker 2: I think he just wanted to see the past because
- 36:06Speaker 2: he likes spelling out words. You know, you saw him
- 36:09Speaker 2: when he said pain, P-A-I-N. I think he wanted to
- 36:12Speaker 2: see his name and say Richard. All right. Yeah, you know,
- 36:14Speaker 2: like to get into the fun of that potentially.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Yeah. But this guy, he's already called him stupid.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Yeah. He's like, are you stupid?
- 36:21Speaker 1: And he's like, I have pain. Treat me. But then
- 36:24Speaker 1: you watch when he's like waddling around and you're like,
- 36:26Speaker 1: that's clearly cramps.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Look, it's kind of like a morally ambiguous area, I guess,
- 36:32Speaker 2: because they all kind of deal with the cramping thing.
- 36:36Speaker 2: We all know people are cramping and there's kind of
- 36:37Speaker 2: this blur. It is hard to prove, hence his logic.
- 36:41Speaker 2: But I guess... I mean, he really kind of put
- 36:43Speaker 2: the foot down and went a bit hard on it.
- 36:45Speaker 2: But in his defense, and I mean, you or I
- 36:48Speaker 2: don't have this problem, but imagine everyone you meet is
- 36:52Speaker 2: less intelligent than you. It must be very hard to
- 36:55Speaker 2: keep it.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Together sometimes ah right so he was he was condescending
- 36:59Speaker 1: he was condescending to a medical professional because he's smarter
- 37:02Speaker 1: than the medical because he knows the aliens built the pyramids.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Well of course and why else would he help that
- 37:07Speaker 2: that um physio out by teaching him how to spell
- 37:10Speaker 2: pain that's true then him being like god i've got
- 37:11Speaker 2: to do everything i need to help this physio out
- 37:13Speaker 2: that probably hasn't done as much study on the area as.
- 37:16Speaker 1: I have yeah and i mean maybe he was in
- 37:18Speaker 1: pain maybe the government had something.
- 37:20Speaker 2: To do yeah exactly maybe the government put a fake
- 37:22Speaker 2: cramp in the leg think about that that could have.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Happened So, I mean, eventually leading to him losing in
- 37:30Speaker 1: five to Munar. He lost it after all that. So,
- 37:32Speaker 1: I mean, that was a wild one. Another unexpected result
- 37:36Speaker 1: was Tsitsipas beating Arthur Fies in four. Fies was up 6-4, 5-2,
- 37:43Speaker 1: and then managed to lose the match from there.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Could Tsitsipas be back? I mean, I feel like everyone's
- 37:48Speaker 2: said that for the last few years.
- 37:50Speaker 1: New coach, not his dad, Patrick Mourataglou.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I like that. It would be hard
- 37:55Speaker 2: to get coached by your dad. You know, there'd be
- 37:57Speaker 2: all these other emotions. So maybe that could be, you know,
- 37:59Speaker 2: a breath of fresh air.
- 38:00Speaker 1: I think, I mean, he looked great and fees just
- 38:04Speaker 1: won Cincinnati.
- 38:05Speaker 2: He could be tired as well.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Bit of a hangover from that. He's had trouble in
- 38:08Speaker 1: Grand Slams. He's, I don't know if he's been that
- 38:11Speaker 1: deep in a slam because maybe it's the five set
- 38:14Speaker 1: format or, you know, whatever, like you said, fatigue from Cincinnati.
- 38:19Speaker 1: But since it passed through to the second round, which
- 38:21Speaker 1: not a lot of people saw come.
- 38:22Speaker 2: I mean, you wouldn't, there's some part of you that
- 38:25Speaker 2: wouldn't want to win Cincinnati because you're playing so close
- 38:29Speaker 2: to the US Open.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:30Speaker 2: And like, I don't know if it's bad luck, but
- 38:32Speaker 2: part of you would be like to make the quarters
- 38:35Speaker 2: or the semis would be perfect because then you focus,
- 38:37Speaker 2: you've got the match practice in and then you could
- 38:39Speaker 2: just kind of get your head in the game for
- 38:40Speaker 2: the US Open.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:41Speaker 2: It would, I mean, I don't know. I'm completely speculating.
- 38:44Speaker 2: I would be happy to be at either, to be honest,
- 38:47Speaker 2: me personally.
- 38:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:48Speaker 4: But.
- 38:48Speaker 2: You know, it does make you think. To win and
- 38:50Speaker 2: then just go out immediately.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean.
- 38:53Speaker 2: But then running into Tsitsipas, you'd be like, oh, well,
- 38:56Speaker 2: if he turns it on, we know where he could be.
- 38:58Speaker 2: You'd kind of be like, God, well, what do you
- 38:59Speaker 2: do there? That's not the first round match I wanted.
- 39:01Speaker 1: And Tsitsipas had a losing record against Arthur Fies going
- 39:05Speaker 1: into this match. And then maybe it is the coaching difference.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Patrick Moritagalu, for anyone who's like, follows any kind of
- 39:12Speaker 1: tennis algorithm on socials he is all over it with
- 39:15Speaker 1: tips and coaching and really and yeah he runs an
- 39:18Speaker 1: academy i think out of spain somewhere and he's uh
- 39:22Speaker 1: he's now in his corner and so is that the
- 39:25Speaker 1: difference is Tsitsipas going to make a deep run? Totally.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Remains to be seen. This one, I mean, like you
- 39:32Speaker 1: mentioned briefly before, Varinka playing his last Grand Slam match ever,
- 39:39Speaker 1: losing to Berrettini. Unfortunately got bageled in the last set.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Had a chance in the second set, but couldn't close
- 39:45Speaker 1: it out on his serve. And, yeah, another guy. Tears.
- 39:49Speaker 1: More tears.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Have you enjoyed his, I mean, because that's the last slam.
- 39:56Speaker 2: Have you enjoyed his kind of farewell lap?
- 39:58Speaker 1: Loved it.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I think it's been nice.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:00Speaker 2: And I think that's a sign of, that's why I
- 40:02Speaker 2: think tennis is a good game. One of the best.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Get rid of that.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Moving on. No, no, no.
- 40:12Speaker 2: I was about to make a good point. I was
- 40:15Speaker 2: going to say that is what I think is so
- 40:18Speaker 2: attractive about the sport of tennis is the personalities and
- 40:22Speaker 2: that it offers the individualistic side of it. Thing can
- 40:25Speaker 2: be kind of a little bit, you know, tedious sometimes,
- 40:28Speaker 2: but it does offer the chance for people to have
- 40:29Speaker 2: real connections and say goodbye in a way that sometimes
- 40:32Speaker 2: you wouldn't get to with team sports and tennis because
- 40:35Speaker 2: they're so at the forefront and so open and vulnerable.
- 40:38Speaker 2: You get these great moments where you get to say
- 40:39Speaker 2: goodbye and he's saying thanks and the American fans, The
- 40:42Speaker 2: US Open, New Yorkers are saying thank you. I found
- 40:45Speaker 2: it very nice. And it's happened all year.
- 40:47Speaker 4: It has.
- 40:48Speaker 1: And Monfils on the other end of that also doing
- 40:51Speaker 1: his victory lap at the moment. Let's check in. He
- 40:56Speaker 1: just won his first round match against Vallejo in four sets.
- 41:02Speaker 1: So that is an absolutely awesome result. So we'll see
- 41:05Speaker 1: Monfils playing in the second round. In the women's side
- 41:10Speaker 1: of things, Kazakina is struggling against Bedosa right now. Coco
- 41:16Speaker 1: Gauff just took out Zeynep Sonmez of Turkey. So, yeah,
- 41:21Speaker 1: do yourself a favor. Watch a Putintseva match if you
- 41:26Speaker 1: get the chance. She just beat Belinda Bencic. So that's
- 41:29Speaker 1: a huge upset on the women's side.
- 41:30Speaker 2: Bencic seeded 12th.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Seeded 12th. So that's huge. Putintseva. Very feisty and volatile.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Can you say feisty?
- 41:39Speaker 2: I think you could say feisty. Yeah, feisty is fine.
- 41:41Speaker 2: If you say it without that grin that you said
- 41:43Speaker 2: it with.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Can you not say feisty?
- 41:44Speaker 2: No, you can say feisty.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Feisty is good. I love watching her play. Her and
- 41:49Speaker 1: Ostapenko are probably two of the most entertaining just in
- 41:52Speaker 1: terms of their reaction to when a call doesn't go
- 41:55Speaker 1: their way.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the best.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. So she, beating Bencic is huge in three
- 41:59Speaker 1: very tight sets. They had to stop play at one
- 42:02Speaker 1: point because there was drones flying overhead.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. 2026. What the hell's going on?
- 42:09Speaker 1: I know. On the women's side, though, like, a lot
- 42:11Speaker 1: of just, like, par for the course, Sabs cruising over Osorio.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Amanda Anisimova, a great win on her birthday. Siobhan Tech,
- 42:22Speaker 1: easy win. So, like, Yeah, the women are kind of
- 42:24Speaker 1: cruising along. I'd say Bencic would be the biggest upset
- 42:28Speaker 1: happening on that side of things. So, the U.S. Open.
- 42:34Speaker 1: I can't wait to talk about it next week when
- 42:36Speaker 1: we know.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Should we do a podcast every day from here on in? Yeah.
- 42:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:42Speaker 2: I'm also saying this. I really want to get out
- 42:43Speaker 2: of the house at the moment.
- 42:46Speaker 1: I was super dry in my mouth. Okay.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Now, contractually, I actually don't know if I'm on a contract,
- 42:51Speaker 2: but Errol just told me that I have to do
- 42:52Speaker 2: everyone's favorite segment, Approaching the Net, a.k.a. Sam Slam.
- 42:57Speaker 1: No.
- 42:58Speaker 2: No, I said play the other one, the fun one
- 43:01Speaker 2: we did before.
- 43:02Speaker 1: I made an editorial choice.
- 43:04Speaker 2: No, play the fun one. No, play another one.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Yes, this one. Terrific.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Welcome back to Approaching the Net, a.k.a. Sam Slam.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Grand Sam.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Grand Sam Slam featuring me, Sam Taunton.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Son of Sam.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Son of Sam.
- 43:22Speaker 1: If you had.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Broken up with a partner, I know you've only ever
- 43:26Speaker 2: been with one person your entire life. That's kind of
- 43:28Speaker 2: the way you roll.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Jesus.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Jesus. So say you break up with Jesus. Do you
- 43:34Speaker 2: go back to the scene of the, to where you
- 43:36Speaker 2: know Jesus is hanging out and kind of poke.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Church? Yeah.
- 43:40Speaker 2: Poke your nose. Okay.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Let's say hypothetically, do I go back to where my
- 43:47Speaker 1: ex works?
- 43:48Speaker 2: Yes. To their workplace.
- 43:49Speaker 4: Yes.
- 43:50Speaker 2: Because this week, Morgan Riddle, she's back. She's at the
- 43:54Speaker 2: US Open. Now, it kind of makes sense in her
- 43:56Speaker 2: work capacity, but is it disrespectful since parting ways with
- 43:59Speaker 2: Taylor Fritz for her to be there?
- 44:01Speaker 1: Her work capacity as an influencer.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:03Speaker 1: That's what I mean.
- 44:04Speaker 2: It is legitimate for her to be there. We can't discredit.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Go back to that last photo of her. That is terrifying.
- 44:10Speaker 2: She looks scary.
- 44:12Speaker 1: I know this wasn't during a Taylor Fritz match.
- 44:14Speaker 3: Yes.
- 44:14Speaker 1: But if it was, and you look over and see your,
- 44:17Speaker 1: say you're on stage and you look, And your ex
- 44:19Speaker 1: is in the front row with that look on her face.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Oh, you walk off stage.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Do you have a good set?
- 44:24Speaker 2: Absolutely not. Absolutely not. But also I might ask.
- 44:26Speaker 1: With a boyfriend clearly hotter than you.
- 44:29Speaker 2: The new boyfriend. I don't know who he is. He
- 44:31Speaker 2: looks good. To describe her, I would say she looks
- 44:34Speaker 2: like the ice queen. She's got a kind of blank
- 44:38Speaker 2: look on her face. Like maybe she doesn't want to
- 44:40Speaker 2: be there or she's eyeballing someone trying to maybe telekinetically
- 44:44Speaker 2: pass on some kind of like super virus to insert
- 44:47Speaker 2: into their body. Next to what can only be described
- 44:49Speaker 2: as like a 10. She's with a 10. Like a hunk.
- 44:52Speaker 1: This is a perfect specimen of a man. A perfect specimen. Yeah.
- 44:56Speaker 2: I mean, it's a shame that his nipple isn't out
- 44:58Speaker 2: like Carlos's was.
- 44:59Speaker 1: They both look AI.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:01Speaker 2: She actually does look like she's not real. Like she's
- 45:04Speaker 2: been created in a lab right now. But it would
- 45:07Speaker 2: seem like imagine if she. Just went to a Taylor Fritz.
- 45:10Speaker 2: I guess she's allowed to go.
- 45:12Speaker 3: Sure.
- 45:12Speaker 2: And she's probably got a AAA pass.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:15Speaker 2: She might see him around. It would be very off-putting.
- 45:17Speaker 1: It still seems like an intentional move. Yeah.
- 45:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:22Speaker 2: But the problem is, I guess she's in the one
- 45:25Speaker 2: world where, like, if you broke up with your partner,
- 45:28Speaker 2: you can't. go to their office, bang out of order.
- 45:31Speaker 2: They'll call people.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Bad look.
- 45:33Speaker 2: But if your partner is playing at the US Open,
- 45:36Speaker 2: you're allowed to go to the US Open.
- 45:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:38Speaker 2: And so you can still mess with them a little bit.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Well, this is it.
- 45:40Speaker 2: And she's kind of got a free pass here.
- 45:43Speaker 1: It's still slightly odd. But if the partner, your ex-partner,
- 45:47Speaker 1: has a public-facing job, like stand up. Yeah. So like
- 45:51Speaker 1: I said, if an ex came and sat in the
- 45:53Speaker 1: front row, it would be nuts.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Yeah. She could sit in the back. A ticket is
- 45:59Speaker 2: a ticket. She'd have to buy a ticket.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Unless her new partner is, like, gross.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Then sit in the front.
- 46:06Speaker 2: If he's, like, disgusting and he's, like, got, like, food
- 46:09Speaker 2: stains on his shirt and he's, like, dribbling or something,
- 46:13Speaker 2: please sit in the front. I'll have the best set
- 46:14Speaker 2: of my life.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Yeah, his meatball stains.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Yeah, and you're a little bit embarrassed about him. But
- 46:19Speaker 2: when he looks like that.
- 46:20Speaker 1: I know.
- 46:21Speaker 2: And you're just like, God. When do they.
- 46:29Speaker 1: All right, so they've done some TikTok trend here.
- 46:32Speaker 2: She's sitting really close to the front.
- 46:35Speaker 1: I mean, Fritz won his first match, so he's through
- 46:38Speaker 1: to the second round, but I just wonder if this
- 46:43Speaker 1: plays into his mental landscape.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Yeah, it can't help. It makes you just think you
- 46:47Speaker 2: should never date anyone. Put your tennis first, go back
- 46:52Speaker 2: into the bubble and just concentrate on the tennis because
- 46:55Speaker 2: you don't need this kind of hoo-ha going on.
- 46:58Speaker 1: I mean, the new boyfriend must be like, am I
- 47:01Speaker 1: being used as a pawn in this mental warfare?
- 47:04Speaker 2: Well, if he's not, he's like, God, he needs to
- 47:07Speaker 2: wake up. Hey, sweetie, I know we've been dating a month.
- 47:10Speaker 2: You want to come to my ex-boyfriend's work with me
- 47:12Speaker 2: for the afternoon?
- 47:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:14Speaker 2: And we'll show off and try to make him jealous
- 47:16Speaker 2: because I'm totally over him.
- 47:17Speaker 1: And he's got some diamond studded bracelet on just to
- 47:21Speaker 1: flex whatever.
- 47:22Speaker 2: I kind of like that bit. That's kind of nice, that.
- 47:25Speaker 2: He's obviously got money.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I don't know.
- 47:29Speaker 2: This is too much. Anyway, moving on. Now, speaking of money,
- 47:33Speaker 2: you know, America personifies wealth and kind of extravagance. At
- 47:37Speaker 2: the US Open, you can get caviar. on your chicken nuggets,
- 47:42Speaker 2: which I've never heard of this before. It'll set you
- 47:43Speaker 2: back a cool $ 100. Cockaduck? Is that Cockadack?
- 47:48Speaker 1: Probably. Cockadack. Have you ever heard that?
- 47:51Speaker 2: Is that an American?
- 47:52Speaker 1: Some financial. I think it's a funky Korean restaurant in
- 47:53Speaker 1: New York.
- 47:55Speaker 2: Oh, okay. So they're doing fried chicken with caviar on
- 47:59Speaker 2: it for a cool $ 100 USD. So you're kind of
- 48:03Speaker 2: looking at, what, $ 180 Australian there?
- 48:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:05Speaker 2: Yeah. $ 140. $ 100 for a box of six nuggets. It
- 48:10Speaker 2: would want to be good.
- 48:11Speaker 1: It's officially the U.S.
- 48:12Speaker 3: Open, which means the $ 100 Caviar Chicken Nugget Box is back.
- 48:16Speaker 3: And I'm going to tell you if it's still worth getting. Now,
- 48:18Speaker 3: the box comes with 30 grams of Petrosian Imperial Caviar, which,
- 48:22Speaker 3: in my opinion, is worth $ 100 in and of itself.
- 48:24Speaker 3: You get six pieces of Kokodok's Crispy Chicken Nuggets that
- 48:27Speaker 3: come with creme fraiche, chives, and, of course, some delicious daikon.
- 48:31Speaker 3: This bite and doing a caviar bump at the U.S.
- 48:33Speaker 3: Open is worth $ 100 in my opinion.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Bump? I mean... Wait, what? Bump? That's New York.
- 48:41Speaker 2: A caviar bomb.
- 48:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:43Speaker 1: I don't know how appetizing that looks to me.
- 48:46Speaker 2: Also, she said it's back and is it still worth it,
- 48:50Speaker 2: implying that it was definitely worth it last year.
- 48:53Speaker 1: Right.
- 48:53Speaker 2: But this year, maybe it's not because there's better uses
- 48:56Speaker 2: of your $ 100 USD. I don't know.
- 48:59Speaker 1: Maybe. But also, I've never had a chicken nugget and thought,
- 49:02Speaker 1: you know what would make this better? Fish eggs.
- 49:04Speaker 2: Yeah. I have a chicken nugget and I'm like, I'm disgusting.
- 49:08Speaker 2: I'm a slob.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:09Speaker 2: And then I don't want to be like, oh, now
- 49:10Speaker 2: I'm also can't pay my mortgage. That bite right there
- 49:13Speaker 2: was worth every dollar in my pocket. um and finally
- 49:16Speaker 2: this is not us open related but this really caught
- 49:19Speaker 2: my interest some guy and i don't know why he
- 49:22Speaker 2: did this has put like um what like a sound
- 49:25Speaker 2: thing a speaker inside a tennis ball and when you
- 49:28Speaker 2: hit the tennis ball it moans so it mimics the
- 49:31Speaker 2: noise of a professional tennis player you i think you'd
- 49:34Speaker 2: like this have a look at this all right.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Do you like it no.
- 49:44Speaker 2: So you need a ue boom yeah here you go
- 49:48Speaker 2: what's the point i don't know what the point is
- 49:52Speaker 2: i guess in case you're out there playing tennis and
- 49:54Speaker 2: you want.
- 49:54Speaker 1: To annoy everybody.
- 49:56Speaker 2: You're too lazy to kind of do it yourself to
- 49:58Speaker 2: replicate your favorite tennis player.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Right right so you need a grunt.
- 50:02Speaker 2: Yes also it's the it's the male grunts which i
- 50:05Speaker 2: like the least it sounds like you're in a a
- 50:07Speaker 2: cubicle at a golf course and four 80-year-olds come in
- 50:09Speaker 2: to use the urinal.
- 50:10Speaker 1: Aren't a bit backed up.
- 50:11Speaker 2: And they're like, oh, and you're like, oh, my God,
- 50:13Speaker 2: what am I hearing right now?
- 50:15Speaker 1: They had a bit too much cock-a-dock nuggets.
- 50:18Speaker 2: I think they had cock-a-nockers.
- 50:21Speaker 1: Cock-a-nockers.
- 50:22Speaker 2: But anyway, that's definitely something that no one needs, no
- 50:25Speaker 2: one asked for, and I can't see it. Well, what?
- 50:31Speaker 1: What? That hurts.
- 50:34Speaker 2: No. You know, for such a positive podcast episode. Do
- 50:42Speaker 2: you feel bullied? To end in that way, it's just disappointing, really.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Thank you very much.
- 50:49Speaker 1: Yes, we did it. So, early days of the U.S. Open.
- 50:53Speaker 1: At this point, has your predictions changed for the eventual winner?
- 50:59Speaker 1: I mean, I'm thinking I would love to see Alcaraz
- 51:01Speaker 1: obviously win it all.
- 51:02Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I think now that Carlos, he was kind
- 51:03Speaker 2: of such a we didn't know, unknown, I think.
- 51:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:06Speaker 2: I don't think a lot of people watching it would
- 51:07Speaker 2: love to see. It's kind of a cool story.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Oh, God.
- 51:11Speaker 2: Maybe Errol wants to see more nipple. That's the only
- 51:13Speaker 2: reason why he wants Carlos to stay in the tournament.
- 51:16Speaker 2: But I would love to see outgrows do well.
- 51:17Speaker 1: I would obviously still think it's Igor Spontak taking the title,
- 51:20Speaker 1: but we will find out next week. Bye-bye. Please give
- 51:26Speaker 1: some love to the baby.
- 51:27Speaker 4: Love to the baby.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Love to the baby.
