- 3:01talk about what's going on to their collective minds. We all those sponsors to
- 3:05the show, or the folks at fresh Air, John Lovejoy Fresh Air joins
- 3:07us now, John, good morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning,
- 3:10Dave. How are you? I'm doing fine, Thanks for thanks for
- 3:13being here for those who have not heard you on the show before. What
- 3:17exactly is fresh Air? Because we all want it, we all need it?
- 3:21But what is fresh Air? The company? Fresh Air is an air
- 3:23filter changing service. We come out, we build a custom fit air filter
- 3:30frame to fit into your HVAC unit, and then we come out on a
- 3:36regular basis and change that filter for you, so you no longer have to
- 3:39worry about when it's time to change your air filter or anything along that line.
- 3:44Now, what's the reason I would pay for this service? I mean,
- 3:46if I let me just say this, Let's say I'm a small business
- 3:50owner. Okay, now I know you do residential and business, but let's
- 3:53say I'm a small business owner or residential for that matter. Can I just
- 3:55do it myself. You can do it yourself, but there are advantages to
- 4:00having us do it. When that metal frame is heavier, it's it's a
- 4:03better fit. So that's going to help with your HVAC unit. Less is
- 4:08getting around our filters and into your unit. So it helps protect your investment
- 4:13from that. In small business wise, a lot of those don't have maintenance
- 4:18staff and so it allows us to be the maintenance staff for you. And
- 4:24then you know, it's the convenience of it and just you know, not
- 4:28having to worry about again when it's time to change, you know, and
- 4:34you know, different things come up, and it's it's taken care of exactly.
- 4:40I mean, you don't have to worry about it. You don't have
- 4:42to out of It's the peace of mind. Yeah, it's all take too
- 4:44many times, it's out of sight, out of mind. Yeah. Talking
- 4:46about customer service, I mean it's lacking in a lot of companies across America
- 4:51day. But it's something that I think your company really prides themselves on.
- 4:55We do. We pride ourselves on three different factors and the first of those
- 5:00is our customer service. And when we say customer service, we mean at
- 5:02all levels whether it be you know, as a sales manager, I take
- 5:08pride in my staff that works for me, whether it be scheduling. You
- 5:13know, we've got the flexibility there so you as far as scheduling goes,
- 5:16John, you can just have this set up on a on a regular basis
- 5:20so I don't have to call and necessarily make an appointment. I mean,
- 5:23you put it in your computer and you know that day's barbecue pit slash tanning
- 5:28bed salon is do every six months or a year or whatever. How often
- 5:31should the should that service be done? A service? Should the service should
- 5:35be done no less than every three months, every three months. So it's
- 5:40automatically, yeah, it's it's automatically in there. So I don't have to
- 5:43worry if I'm operating a business about calling you. You just show up and
- 5:46do it absolutely. And you know when we show we're going to call ahead
- 5:49of time to confirm your appointment. And when I say the flexibility, that's
- 5:55where I'm talking about. If there's something that's come up on your schedule and
- 5:58we need to reschedule that appointment, we can do that. And so Marcia,
- 6:03my office scheduler, is wonderful to work with and take care of that
- 6:11for you, so that way we can make it fit into your schedule.
- 6:15And then my technicians are absolutely wonderful and people are raving about them, their
- 6:21professionalism, the fact that they're on time. That's huge. Oh yeah,
- 6:27people's time is valuable. And you don't do the we'll be there between eight
- 6:30am and and Sunday. No, no, no, we do not.
- 6:34If your appointment is set for one o'clock in the afternoon, we're there are
- 6:38at one o'clock in the afternoon. Yeah, But we pride ourselves on our
- 6:43customer service. We pride ourselves on our affordability. You know. The way
- 6:46I view it is, what good is a service if nobody can afford it,
- 6:50you know. So we've got the service price to where it fits in
- 6:56everybody's budget. And then we pride ourselves in ourvigesults, our results, not
- 7:01only your system running more efficiently, which is going to save you money on
- 7:05your energy bills, but the inside results as well. Just as an example,
- 7:12have a gentleman that recently got a our Services added to his two units.
- 7:18He has one upstairs and one downstairs, and he said for years that
- 7:23upstairs unit had ran constantly and was not getting any cooler than seventy seven degrees
- 7:30inside, So you can imagine how low down that was upstairs. And he
- 7:34said since he since he switched to fresh air, he's noticed that his unit
- 7:41isn't running NonStop, but the temperature is so much cooler where the thermostat is
- 7:48actually set, which is going to in turn result in more efficiency, which
- 7:55saves us dollars and cents, which is what we're all trying to do today.
- 7:58Yes, exactly. You know that at a clogged filter, I like
- 8:03to compare it to trying to drink a really thick milkshake through a straw,
- 8:07you know, because that's basically if your filter is not changed on a regular
- 8:11basis, that's what your HVAC unit is trying to do is get that air
- 8:18through like a thick milkshake through a straw, you know, And that's causing
- 8:22it to work harder, which defeats the whole purpose of it being a high
- 8:24efficiency unit. Talking to John Lovejoy again for fash Air the day Vland showing

- 8:45Visit Bridge Valley dot et a u slash Apprenticeships today. Now, John,
- 8:48I can tell you I'm not exactly the handies guy in the world.
- 8:50Around my house, my wife is a lot better handying guy than I am.
- 8:54But when it comes to changing the filter in our heating and cool union,
- 8:58it involves me actually climbing up under the house and getting the old filter
- 9:01out. And it doesn't exactly fit the best in the world, so there's
- 9:05a lot of maneuver. It's a push, it's in and it's out,
- 9:07and so on and so forth. But it can be a little bit difficult.
- 9:09But with your company, you can pretty much custom make those to fit
- 9:13any any size, whether it's residential or it's it's commercial exactly and that's a
- 9:18that's a big benefit for us, and in a lot of cases we can
- 9:22build that custom frame that odd size at a cheaper cost than what you could
- 9:28buy it at the local box store or yeah, at the you know online
- 9:35at you know, one of the online outlets. Let's talk about it's springtime,
- 9:39almost summertime now, and people are doing a lot of home improvement projects
- 9:43around their home. To be a good time to maybe sign up for your
- 9:45service. It is actually, you know, home improvements. I was actually
- 9:50that's how I spent my Memorial Day, was, you know, working planning
- 9:54things in the backyard. And so home improvement, whether it be inside or
- 10:00outside, is something to really take into consideration. Your air filters as well.
- 10:03If you're doing inside renovations, then that's extra dust that's being created so
- 10:11that we can relate to that here in this building. Yes, that's that's
- 10:16why. That's what I've heard. I heard that on one of the sister
- 10:20stations this morning. Yeah, we were we're in the process of a massive
- 10:22remodeling project here and I was juggle with John and said, we've added to
- 10:28about ten more boxes in the studio. So we don't know what's in those
- 10:31boxes, but there's something very important in those boxes. And because of this,
- 10:35you know, this is an older building and we're completely renovating all new
- 10:39studios, all new everything. We've kicked up a little dust and dander up
- 10:43up at eleven eleven here, Yes, and that extra dust just means throughout
- 10:48the renovation project that filter really needs to be changed to keep the indoor air
- 10:54quality, you know, tolerable. Yeah, I hope put it that way.
- 10:58With the extra dust. And if you're working outside in your yard,
- 11:03you're going to be around all these plants and the grass and everything tends to
- 11:07kick up the allergies. So if you are an allergy sufferer, as I
- 11:11know, when you come in, a good quality air filter will help reduce
- 11:16the effects of being exposed to all that. And I'm presuming you guys offer
- 11:22estimates. People can come out. There's no cause, just just come out
- 11:24and see what they can do for you. Absolutely, they give me a
- 11:28call and I will actually come out and yeah, lots of times we can
- 11:31actually even do the estimate just right over the phone. Okay, all right,

- 11:48opportunity to talk about what's going on in their world. It's fresh Air again.

- 12:07we're going to talk about a program that goes on not only in this
- 12:09area but in other areas to try to feed some kids during the summertime.
- 12:13A lot of times you think it's a summertime is a great time for the
- 12:16kids and for unfortunately, when a lot of kids when that final school bell
- 12:20rings sometime in June, they don't always get fed like this said should.

- 14:50to think is as parents or citizens that when kids go home for summertime vacation,
- 14:54that they get to enjoy a summer of doing what kids do, swimming,
- 14:58playing ball, going to the parks, and you know, just all
- 15:01around just being kids. And that may be true, you know, folks,
- 15:03for many of them, but sadly that can mean that for a lot
- 15:09they no longer have meals that they can count on. We forget that the
- 15:13only meal a lot of these kids can depend on is the meal that they
- 15:18get at their schools, and when school is out for summer, for many
- 15:22kids, that all comes to an end. I want to bring in Doug
- 15:24Irwin. Now. Doug has been on the show in the past, and
- 15:26he's a director of a program called Backpack Buddy, and he joins us.
- 15:28Now, Doug, good morning, welcome back to the show. Ry Dave,
- 15:31thank you for the opportunity, Thank you for being there, and you've
- 15:33been on the show in the past. But for those who may not be
- 15:35familiar with the program, tell us what Backpack Buddy is backpack Buddy dot org.
- 15:39We focus on helping kids during the summertime with a little extra food during
- 15:45their summer break from school. Traditionally, a lot of kids on Fridays take
- 15:48an extra bag home. A lot of civic organizations support schools during the school
- 15:54year and give a little extra to get kids through the weekend. Well,
- 15:58once last day of school that's stop. So what we've done this is our
- 16:02twelfth year where we put together boxes of food and we actually mail food to
- 16:07kids because we've seen over time transportational logistics issues about coming to a central point
- 16:14in a community to pick up some extra food for the kids during the summertime.
- 16:18So what we've developed a program is that we pack up our boxes of
- 16:22food. We put about twenty three different items in the box, and we
- 16:26mail it to the kids every other week during the summertime to give them a
- 16:30little bit extra to help them get through the summer and get back to school
- 16:33in August. Now, what areas are we talking about here? We focus
- 16:37a lot all the schools in Putnam County, all the schools in Boone County,
- 16:41and then also Western Canal Clay and then also we're in Martin County,
- 16:45Kentucky as well. So what is in the packages that you mail out?
- 16:48What are you looking for. Well, what we do is that we put
- 16:52kids favorite six cans of ravioli, soup, fruit, vegetable, neutra green,
- 17:00our oatmeal, and then also kids favorite ram and noodles and so this
- 17:03is all just mailed out to them directly. How how do you find out
- 17:07what kids to mail the items to? Well, one of the things that
- 17:10we've done from the very beginning is we work really closely with the local schools
- 17:14and because those folks know the need and throughout this process through the last several
- 17:19years and through the from the beginning is the care and compassion that our school,
- 17:25our teachers, our counselors, our administration have for these kids. And
- 17:30we sign ups are offered to everyone uh in the counties that we serve.
- 17:33But then also we go back to the to the teachers and the counselor say
- 17:37hey, did everybody get signed up? And they look at the lists and
- 17:41say, okay, no, these folks really need the help. And we
- 17:45really focus on the kids that that get the support during the school year and
- 17:48then primarily focus in on the folks that free and reduce lunch in the communities
- 17:53and UH. And that's how we work with the schools to get the names.
- 17:57So how many approcs give me a ballpark? Figure? How many kids
- 18:00you're talking about with this program that are impacted. This year will be supporting
- 18:06about eighteen hundred and fifty kids with about seven thousand boxes that we'll be mailing
- 18:11out. This is our twelfth year, and later this summer we'll be mailing
- 18:15our fifty thousandth box from the beginning. Wow wow, So what is your
- 18:19ask of the general public here? Well, one of the things that we
- 18:23do is the first Saturday in June in Putnam County at the Tayes Valley Nazarene
- 18:29Church, and then also on the second Saturday in Boone County on June the
- 18:33eighth at the Madison Civic Center, we have what we call our Community Packing
- 18:36Days where we invite all of our community to come and really celebrate what the
- 18:41community has done for our kids. Because without this program and without incredible sponsors
- 18:45that we have, that this is not possible. So what we do is
- 18:48that we purchase all of the food that we will use all summer, and
- 18:52we set it out and we pack our boxes. For instance, this coming
- 18:56Saturday at ten o'clock again at the tay Tays Valley Nazarene Church. We'll be
- 19:00packing thirty eight hundred boxes. Has started ten and if everything goes right,
- 19:06we'll be done by noon. And what we do is we take we create
- 19:10this huge assembly line and we put in all of the food, all of
- 19:14the items into the box. And not only do we put food in the
- 19:18box, but we also put in a book and then also a personal enrichment
- 19:22flyer that we work with the schools in different community organizations, the informational flyer
- 19:26that goes in the box. So all of that's put together, we tape
- 19:30the box shut and then we store it for the summer, and then every
- 19:33other week we'll come in and we'll put labels on them and mail them out
- 19:37and we'll do that the exact same process on June the eighth in Madison at
- 19:42the boot at the Madison Civic Center as well, starting at ten o'clock.
- 19:47So who typically volunteers for this dog? I mean, what do you like,
- 19:49civic groups or just anybody, church groups, whatever, civics groups,
- 19:53sports teams, clubs groups. We say that we've got jobs for everybody from
- 19:57two to ninety two, that this is a we can you bring bring your
- 20:03young ones and bring your wagon and stroller and put the box and push it
- 20:07through. We've got kids helping hand out the food. We've got folks that
- 20:11can sit down and help us pass out the flyers that go in the boxes.
- 20:15So we can anybody and everybody that wouldn't want to come and participate,
- 20:21we'd love to have you, and again, give us two hours. You
- 20:23know, we'll start at ten and if if we've done everything right, you'll
- 20:26be back in your car leaving by noon. And you guys run this thing
- 20:30pretty much like a well oiled machine. I mean, every it's like an
- 20:33assembly line man. Everybody's got to everybody's got a job. As you said,
- 20:36from two to ninety two. Absolutely we've we've we've fine tuned this process
- 20:40over the last ten years to eleven years, and I think you know we've
- 20:45gotten down pretty good. But Dave Alan showing five. Eddie lie Bright to
- 20:48part by Morgan and Morgan. If you're injured hired Morgan to Morgan, America's
- 20:52largest injury law firm. We're talking to Doug Garwin from the Backpack Buddy program
- 20:56again. We are talking about getting volunteers to pack these boxes and get them
- 21:00ready to be mailed. Out. And again this is perfect right now because
- 21:03I know kids in school now they are required to do community service. This
- 21:08would be a great community service project for them. Absolutely, And we've got
- 21:11uh, we've got certificates for all of our students that that that come and
- 21:17participate. We've we will have it. We have a tent set up for
- 21:19for sign ups and community service certificates, and we've got that taken care of.
- 21:25And and we're looking for the student leaders to come and step up.
- 21:29We're always looking for additional help and hands to you know, really try to
- 21:33start working on that next generation of civic leaders and being involved. And we
- 21:38love to have the students, the teams, uh, any school organizations,
- 21:42churches, whoever might want to come again, we'd love to talk with them
- 21:48about and again, you know, in communities that we're not currently involved in,
- 21:51you know, if this is something that that your community be interested in,
- 21:53we'd love to talk to folks about sharing the concept the ideas because it's
- 21:59uh, you know, we're getting food to kids. I mean it's not
- 22:03we're not, it's actually been delivered. It's so we've got this this figured
- 22:08out in that way to get to get the support to the kids, and
- 22:12we'd love to talk to folks if if they'd be interested, give us your
- 22:15phone number and we'll hit this a couple more times before we let you go.
- 22:18But give us their phone number, your email, or however somebody's listening
- 22:22today that they want to get involved in the best the best part to find

- 22:33but you know backpack Buddy, uh Putnam backpack Buddy, but Boom County,
- 22:37so you find us there. What about monetary donations? I mean,
- 22:41it takes a lot to pull this off or you set up to take if
- 22:44somebody just says, look, I can't be there, I can't help,
- 22:45can't give my time, but I would like to make a monitor or maybe
- 22:48a business that would like to sponsor absolutely on our website, we've got some
- 22:52QR codes and and if you're specifically interested in a specific one community that we're
- 22:57in, we've got different opportunities that you can sponsor the entire program, which
- 23:04which will go across all of our locations, or we can for Boom County
- 23:08Putnam County where break down individual we're directed and again all donations for this would
- 23:15be accepted. So I mean, we want our businesses to get involved.
- 23:17But if somebody says, hey, I can I can send you twenty bucks,
- 23:19I can see you ten bucks or whatever, you certainly would take it.
- 23:22Twenty dollars a box that gets the box to a kid for the summertime.
- 23:26And how many years have you been how did you personally get involved in
- 23:29this? This is something that we that we started. Our church supports kids
- 23:33during this during the school year, and we were talking to some of the
- 23:36folks that were leading that program and nothing was being done. They tried several
- 23:40different things, And my background is the supply chain in logistics and thinking,
- 23:44you know, if the right gap for the job, if we can if
- 23:47we can get parts you know, shipped in here overnight, how can't we
- 23:49feed a kid you know twenty you know, ten to fifteen miles down the
- 23:52road. So that's how it all started twelve years ago. Do you need
- 23:56any help with people to go out to actually buy the individual products? Do
- 24:02you accept food donations if people want to bring it by? Well, because
- 24:04of our box, you know, we've got a twelve by twelve box.
- 24:07Yeah, you got it down to a science. So we work with Kroger,
- 24:12Carrie Parkins and the Kroger and Tayes Valley. He has been a great
- 24:15partner with for us for many years. And we purchase all that to make
- 24:21sure that we have it all one and then two that it fits in the
- 24:23box. Yeah, and then we don't want to discourage anybody from from from
- 24:29helping. But I mean that in this kind of a situation, you know
- 24:32exactly how many cans or ravioli, how many ramen noodles you can get in
- 24:34there, so bring it a bunch of extra straup probably wouldn't help them out.
- 24:38Just you know, a monetary donation probably would be better, or or
- 24:41your hands correct hands monetary donation. But if if somebody wants to donate food,
- 24:47we do have local partners that we will stock the pantries the schools at
- 24:52the beginning of the school year, that we will distribute that to them.
- 24:56But yeah, it's you know, for instance, we've got twenty four thousand
- 25:00cans of raveli coming for Saturday, so another thirteen thousand coming for in Madison,
- 25:07So we've got conn Ager and chef boy already hopping for give us some
- 25:11I know you can't get into specifics with names, and I wouldn't want you
- 25:15to do that, but give us some specific stories that you've seen in those
- 25:18past, as you say, twelve years or so, you've been involved,
- 25:21some some specific things that you've seen, or some gratitude that you've had reports
- 25:26of. We've had several, you know, we get back the stories from
- 25:30our from our counselors that that that folks say that, hey, you know
- 25:34what, our car broke down during the summer and we didn't have the opportunity
- 25:38to replace it, and we were paying a neighbor to take us to the
- 25:41store, and when these boxes come every other week, it was certainly helping
- 25:48them. Also, we've got a story that that we had one a person
- 25:55that just had had an opportunity that had they She when she sent the note
- 26:02to us, said hey, I've received these boxes in the past from you
- 26:04guys, and they helped us a great deal. She says, But now
- 26:07I've got it, I don't need it. Now I've got a new job
- 26:11and we've got the opportunity I'm looking to hire folks. Can I put my
- 26:15flyer in your boxes? To see if we can maybe find find some employees
- 26:22for my opportunity. Like sure, that's great, that's awesome, let's do
- 26:25it. So you know, it's helping folks get over the go to get
- 26:29over the hump to the other side, and then we see the generosity coming
- 26:33back, you know, trying to help others. All right, give us
- 26:34the website and other contact information. Again, we're kind of putting the plea
- 26:40out there for you that if you can give a couple of hours this Saturday
- 26:44or next Saturday or both, you'll be in Tay's Valley this Saturday. You'll
- 26:47be at the Madison Soup Center, Boom County the following Saturday. If you
- 26:49can give a couple of hours a time. If you can only give an
- 26:52hour, that's fine, they'll take it. You can give twenty minutes,
- 26:55they'll they'll take it. We'd love to have all hands available and you'll have
- 26:59a great time you everybody. It's a it's a lot of camaraderie coming out

- 27:06Tayese Valley, so it's not hard to find it, right off the exit,
- 27:08right off the exit between the exit and the hospital. All right,
- 27:11Dan, give us the website backpack buddy dot org and you can find all
- 27:15the information there. All right. I appreciate you being here, Doug,

- 32:09a time for Dave to drop a controversial bomb at the very end of the
- 32:13show and get out of town before the hate mail hits. Well, no,
- 32:16it's nothing like that. I just had something I was going to kind
- 32:20of mention that was that was on my mind yesterday. So yesterday was Memorial
- 32:25Day, and for many it was a day in the Lake day to get
- 32:30the pool open, the unofficial kick off the summer. My wife and I
- 32:35kind of spent the day just kind of working around the house doing some grilling,
- 32:37you know, that sort of thing. But I did a little video
- 32:43yesterday and I put it on my radio page, Dave Allen Radio and Facebook
- 32:50and on my ex page, The Dave Allen Show, the artist formally known
- 32:52as Twitter. Just something that happened to be on my mind at the time.
- 32:57And if you get really bored at work today, I mean really bored,
- 33:02maybe can go watch it if you want. First of all, a
- 33:06lot of us have no idea what Memorial Day even is. It is not
- 33:10a day to thank people for their military service. Now we should do that
- 33:15every day. That should be a three sixty five kind of video. I
- 33:19get that, but that's not specifically what Memorial Day is for. That's what
- 33:27Veterans Day in the Fall is for. It never hurts to thank people for
- 33:30their service. As someone who did not serve, I alway, and as
- 33:35someone who is the son of someone who did serve, I do always think
- 33:37we should thank them. But that's not what Memorial Day is for. Memorial
- 33:40Day is a time to honor the brave men and women who died in service
- 33:47of their country. That's it, nothing more, nothing less. And as
- 33:52a Texter pointed out on the show on Fridays, there's no such thing as
- 33:57a happy Memorial Day. Although well intentioned, you should never say have a
- 34:02happy Memorial Day because it's a somber time. It's not a time for happiness.
- 34:08It's a time of remembrance for those brave souls that gave their lives in
- 34:17defense of this country period. Memorial Day is for those who didn't come home.
- 34:28That's what the whole idea is. And the video I did yesterday,
- 34:34as I said, just something said out on my back deck and just was
- 34:37thinking about some things on my mind, and so go check it out.
- 34:45The fact that I, like so many others yesterday, could take the time
- 34:53to grill some bad for me, sorry Millie Snyder hot dogs, have a
- 34:59few adult bevere or tea or diet coke or whatever is your drink of choice,
- 35:06have some potato salad. All the fun things on a long weekend like
- 35:13Memorial Day weekend are because somebody laid down their life for me and others to
- 35:22have that right. And I am going to be the first to admit,
- 35:25because I host a political talk show, we are in a bad place in
- 35:31this country right now, and I don't think anyone listening to me could say
- 35:37otherwise. You know, in my fifty three and a half later this year
- 35:40will be fifty four years on this earth. I don't think that it's ever
- 35:45been in a worse place than we are right now. We cannot seem to
- 35:52agree to even disagree anymore. Liberals are the enemy now. Conservatives are the
- 35:59enemy to someone, Okay, just stop it. I'm a conservative Republican who
- 36:08quite frankly, is fighting it harder and harder to be a Republican anymore.
- 36:12But I'm still trying. But because I disagree with someone on abortion or the
- 36:20economy, or the situation with gays or whatever, doesn't make you my enemy.
- 36:28At the end of the day, we're all Americans, and it's my
- 36:35feeling that we need to start acting like it, or we're not going to
- 36:37have a country to fight over. I mean, seemingly gone are the days
- 36:46when we could simply agree to disagree. Do you think Ronald Reagan ever looked
- 36:53at Ted Kennedy or Tip O'Neil and said that's my enemy. No, no,
- 37:00no, no. They would go off to Camp David, they'd work
- 37:02it out, and we should be able to simply disagree. And we've got
- 37:10to somehow get back to that again. I mean, take a look at
- 37:16what just happened in the Republican primary for governor in West Virginia. What I
- 37:22heard on these airwaves and what I saw on my television screen and online from
- 37:28the supposed adults in the room was simply disgusting. Grow up, grow up
- 37:35people. And remember, as we head toward the November general election, it's
- 37:43going to get worse if Trump is reelected. Unless he falls asleep on the
- 37:50button, it's not going to be the end of the country as we know
- 37:54it. The same with Biden. And look as disgusted as many of you
- 38:00are with the choices that we have for president in November. Trump is a
- 38:09disgusting human being who has made his career on lies and deceit. Someone said
- 38:14the other day he's a godly man like my grandpa. Really don't know about
- 38:16you, but my grandpa never got involved in with porn stars. But that's
- 38:22just me and Biden. There's a reason why it took him so long to
- 38:28get to the level that he is now. Remember him totally plagiarizing speeches.
- 38:32There's simply no way that you can look at either of those guys and think
- 38:37they have any business whatsoever leading this country. But it is what we have.
- 38:43And the true leaders in this country are not the men or one day
- 38:47the women who reside at sixteen hundred Pennsylvania Avenue. They're the people that simply
- 38:53get up in hall of our butts out of bed every morning and go to
- 38:58work. And I realize I got off a bit of a tangent this morning,
- 39:00But Trump or Biden is not who we are, thank God, who
- 39:07we are are the greatest people on God's green earth, and we need to
- 39:13start being nicer to each other and forget about the two old codres in Washington,
- 39:20neither of which, in my opinion, is fit to run the country.
- 39:22But it's the hand we are dealt, So be nice to each other.
- 39:28If you're a liberal, take a conservative out for a cup of coffee
- 39:32or a beer. If you're conservative, ask the liberal, why do you
- 39:37feel so strongly about certain things? Talking? Talking is a good thing,
- 39:45you know. Turn off Fox News, turn off News Max, turn off
- 39:47CNN, and just listen to each other. Talking is a good thing.
- 39:52Shutting out those who may feel differently than you is not. And you've heard
- 39:59me talk about my father on the show for My dad was a decorated Vietnam
- 40:02Vet. Although he was not killed in the line of duty, he died
- 40:07in effect for his country because he died of poisoning because of Agent Orange.
- 40:12He once told me, he said, and he was not political at all.
- 40:15My dad was not a political guy. He just wasn't. My dad
- 40:21was a fundamentalist Christian who kind of believed this is not my world, so
- 40:24he didn't didn't really take part in politics. That was him, and we
- 40:28disagreed on that. But that was just him. But he told me,
- 40:30he said, Look, when I was in Vietnam, I didn't care if
- 40:35the guy next to me was a Republican, a Democrat, or a liberal
- 40:38conservative. I only cared that he had my back. So I'll just leave

- 41:20is pretty divided intense, it's still not as bad as fifty to sixty years

- 41:25perspective. That's an excellent point, there really is, Texas. What about
- 41:34going to the cemetery to visit a loved one who served that just passed recently
- 41:37and more. Yeah, I'm not going to say that you you know what
- 41:38you can and can't do. I mean, that's that's that's just one of
- 41:43those things. I just want us to remember why we have the three day
- 41:45weekend. It's not to go by it is. I mean, people use
- 41:49it as an excuse to go buy line lawn furniture and to open their pools
- 41:52and things. And that's all well and good. At your time. You
- 41:53do what you want to do with it, but just remember, just remember
- 41:55why why you have that, right, Texas Dave, yesterday was Memorial Day
- 42:01and Trump was calling people's scum and going on a rampage instead of remembering this
- 42:06day. But he just hates our military, and we voters are getting tired

- 46:28Texter, a somewhat tragic story that could have been a lot worse. From
- 46:32the West Side. Overnight, six people were sent to the hospital after a
- 46:36front porch that they were holding a candidlight vigil on collapsed. There were a
- 46:43dozen or so on the porch on Jackson Street when it gave away around nine
- 46:45to fifteen or so last night. Now they were gathered there for a candlelight
- 46:50vigil for a person who was shot to death Saturday night on the West Side.
- 46:52They have a story posted about at wv metronews dot com. Good news
- 46:58is the injuries there were not considered to be life threatening. Another wild couple
- 47:05of days weatherwise in the States, so a lot of people without power,
- 47:07and a tornado was confirmed to a touchdown Sunday afternoon in the Windfield area.
- 47:14In the meantime, FEMA representatives are in the area to sign up residents who
- 47:19had storm damage going back to early April. FEMA opened up their State Federal
- 47:23Disaster Recovery Center at the Tyler Mountain Fire Department across Lanes earlier this morning.

- 47:34Lincoln, Marshall, Nicholas, Ohio, Wayne or Wetzel counties that were impacted

- 48:02Todave Island showing five Avy Line Brighte Too part by Huston's Pizza this month as
- 48:06your favorite Hustons, get a large a ten inch Pepperoni pizza and an order
- 48:08of cinnamon bites with icing only twenty ninety nine at Huston's. Will he or
- 48:14won't he run for governor? Of course, talking about Senator Joe Manchin,
- 48:17it is a subject of Hoppy's commentary today, heard on the air this morning
- 48:21and available for you to read at wv metro news dot com. Those that
- 48:25are closest to the senator say he is not running, that his support is
- 48:30one hundred percent behind the Democratic nomine Huntington Mayor Steve Williams and those close to
- 48:34him looking at you. Former Charleston Mayor Danny Jones, great friend of mine,
- 48:37frequent guests on this show and on talk Line. Danny sent me a
- 48:40text while I was on the air last week saying that I could quote him
- 48:44that Joe is not running. So I did, Danny, I just did.
- 48:49Brad mcklahoney reported last week that two sources, though close to Mansion,
- 48:52have confirmed he is being encouraged to enter the race, one source saying that
- 48:59a lot of the lobbying is coming from moderate Republicans who are reluctant to support
- 49:04the actual Republican nominee, Attorney General Patrick Morrissey. A lot of this coming
- 49:08because the fact that Morrissey had a very narrow win in the Republican primary.
- 49:14When you divide it out by four, it was a hard fought battle between
- 49:19Morrissey, Miller, Capitol, and Warner, with Morrissey coming out on top.
- 49:23The Democrat nominee, Huntington Mayor Steve Williams talked in the interview with Brad.
- 49:29Brad actually I think ran into him at the Capitol last week about the
- 49:31forty year friendship that he's had with Joe Manchin and basically added that the rumors
- 49:38don't have any legs to them. Well, Hoppy's commentary this morning talks about
- 49:43Mansion attending an event at the Greenbrier Resort last week. I know a little
- 49:47about it because I was there also. It was the Game Changer anti drug
- 49:52event, and the commentary says the lobbying for him to run really intense during
- 50:00that event. I can tell you I wasn't part of any of that,
- 50:02but I can tell you Wednesday night, I did talk to Senator Mansion about
- 50:06I actually ran into him. I just happened to get up during the event
- 50:09before it got started. Jenifer Garner, by the way, did a great
- 50:12job as the guest speaker, and I just happened to get up and passed
- 50:15Senator Manson. I shook hands with him and I just kind of said,
- 50:20well, you certainly are the center of attention these days, and he just
- 50:24smiled and said something like, well, people love to talk and that's all
- 50:28it is. But as I said when I was on with With with Dave
- 50:32Wilson was in for Hoppy on Talk Line West week, the good Senator could
- 50:37put all this dress at some point many people thought he would do he would
- 50:40do that at some point over the Memorial Holiday weekend, which which he did
- 50:45not. I think, with all due respect, I think Joe likes the
- 50:49attention. I mean, we all like attention, we like feeling wanted.
- 50:53And I never thought for a minute that Joe Mansion was simply going to write
- 50:57off into the sunset after he announced he would not seek reelection for that sentency.
- 51:01I don't see him going away anytime soon, although when you consider how
- 51:05long he's been in the political game, no one certainly could blame him if
- 51:08he did. Go Read Hoppy's commentary on the website speaking to mister Kirschwell.
- 51:13He's back in the big chair today after a week and a day off.
- 51:15Brad McIlhenny will continue the Mansion for Governor Talk puts. Chris Stirewald is on
- 51:20talking to Trump trial and other topics. By the way, if you haven't
- 51:22seen Starwalt show on News Nation The Hill on Sunday, it's Sunday Morning's attending
- 51:28him really really really good show and he always manages to squeeze a little West
- 51:30Virginia in there as well. So Starwald is on with Hoppy today, plus
- 51:35a lot of talk about the Libertarians lately, especially since Trump picked up a
- 51:38lot of booze at the Libertarian convention over the weekend in DC. Taylor Richmond
- 51:44is the state chair of the Libertarian Party. He's on with Hoppy today,
- 51:46as is the Libertarian Party for a candidate for Governor, Erica Kalinitch. Hoppy
- 51:52will spend some time talking to both of them. It's also going to talk
- 51:54about the shortage of teachers in West Virginia. That's talk Line with Hobby coming
- 51:59up at ten on this show Tomorrow. I'm gonna spend some time talking about
- 52:01the ongoing traffic and construction headaches in Kaanasa City. A big story about that
- 52:07in the paper last week. Chad Robinson, who's the city councilman who's kind
- 52:09of fired of, but he's gonna join us talk about that on the show.
- 52:13Gotta go. Thank you to my guest today, Thank you to the
- 52:15A Train Anthony Harmon. Hoppy back in the big chair for talk Line coming
- 52:19up at ten o six this morning. If you haven't done so already,
- 52:21download the all new Metro News TV app to get ready for the Boys State
- 52:23Baseball Tournament later this week in Charleston. See you tomorrow. Till then,
- 52:27have fun and love somebody
