- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: The greatest artist of all time, Leonardo da Vinci, once said, the greatest geniuses sometimes accomplish more when they work less.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: But what did he mean by that?
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: Well, Da Vinci meant that the people who are the most successful are not necessarily the smartest or the most creative, because it's not just those qualities that make them successful.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: What really makes a difference is that they find ways to be more effective.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: There are a lot of books, workshops, podcasts, and even whole academic degree programs that have been created to help writers be more effective.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: But here's one simple way that you can use to achieve much more by working less, and that is repurposing your writing.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Here's how it works.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Take the primary way you produce content and then use it in a bunch of different places.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: If you write blog posts, those can be repurposed into book chapters, email newsletters, social media posts, podcast episodes, videos, speeches, courses, and so forth.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Any form of content can be translated into a lot of other forms of content.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: It'll take some effort because the medium does impact the message, as Marshall McLuhan once said.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: However, it's usually a lot less work to repurpose content than it is to create more content from scratch.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: You know, a lot of writers don't repurpose their material because they're afraid that people will be upset if they see their material in more than one place.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: But the opposite is actually true.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: People who like your content will appreciate hearing it more than once and seeing it in more than one place.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: In addition, not everybody sees your content in every format.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: For example, people who watch your videos are not generally the same group that will listen to your podcast or read your blog posts or sign up for your email newsletter or read your Facebook posts or whatever else.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: So try repurposing some material this week and watch how it connects with different groups.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: You will work less, but you'll end up getting a lot more mileage out of your material.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: And therefore, you'll be working less and achieving more.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
