- 0:01I was like, oh, I at least turn off give me a favorite.
- 0:04Well that, let me pull that in front of a little bit more.
- 0:09Yeah, all right, go alfter this ship we can't use. All
- 0:21right, here we go. By the way I dressed up for you today,
- 0:25I appreciate that I had a nice shirt pecked out and the walk outside
- 0:30and I was like, oh man, it's too hot. Absolutely. Hey,
- 0:34so we're hanging in the studio with Brandley Goert just announced them an album
- 0:38today. Let's go baby? Is that exciting? Oh dude, this morning
- 0:41exciting. We've been working on it since before the last one came out.
- 0:45So how long? How long do you got to sit on news like this
- 0:50before you can share? Because it's been done, it's been known a minute,
- 0:55he looked. He by the way he looked at the record, it
- 0:56would be like, too long? What does take so long? Y'all?
- 0:59Do please do tell? Yeah? Man, we scott boards of us as
- 1:07that me all the time, because once I figured out what's going on on
- 1:10the album, I immediately start working on the next one. So I think
- 1:14we started with ninety something songs and whittled down to ten for this album.
- 1:19Uh so I'm really excited. Man. This has been the first time in
- 1:22a long time. Uh, well, probably the first time ever. We've
- 1:26as opposed to it being like a chronological chatter in my life. It's just
- 1:30like, we picked the best ten songs that sonically fit together, and man,
- 1:37there's some nostalgic stuff on there. We got away from a lot of
- 1:40the digital stuff and kind of recorded this album a little bit of old school.
- 1:44So I was pretty stoked about that. It kind of takes you back
- 1:47to my first two albums, and those are my favorite of mine. So
- 1:51I'm stoped, man. I can't wait to see what everybody thinks. So
- 1:53the album is called Tattoos. Obviously you're a guy who has plenty of them.
- 1:57Why does that fit? Because sometimes people just throw a title line and
- 2:01like who cares? Right, Like whatever, it's gonna live and we'll move
- 2:05on. But why did tattoos fit for this project? A few different reasons.
- 2:09So one, Uh, all of my album titles up to this point
- 2:14have been something to do with my faith, like the Faith or you know,
- 2:19spiritual based titles. This one's obviously different. Uh. But the you
- 2:24know, I have a cross that runs from the top of my chest to
- 2:28my belt line and sideways, and it's the biggest one I have. For
- 2:30a reason, it's kind of to remind me to keep that first, or
- 2:35at least attempt to. So that was one of the reasons. Another reason
- 2:38is if you listen to the song Tattoos one, every tattoo song I've ever
- 2:45heard sucks. They just suck cause it's a It's always like, look,
- 2:49how cool I have I got tattoos. Yeah, real tattoo people, I
- 2:53felt aren't necessarily like that, like we we have stories about them. There's
- 2:58there's reasons we have them, and uh, you know, we sit down
- 3:00for I'll never forget. We sat down through this writeing retreat in Texas and
- 3:06it was like the first three sessions I had, everybody was, man,
- 3:08we got to write a tattoo song. I was like, the tattoo song
- 3:12suck. I'm not doing that. And then on the last one, Randy
- 3:15Montana was in there and he was like, well, man, you know,
- 3:19he brought up we need to do a tattoo song, and I was
- 3:21like, I'm not doing it. They all suck and he was like,
- 3:23then make it your job on this one to not suck. And what we
- 3:27ended up with is if you listen to that song all the way through,
- 3:30I can point to every one of them specifically that the songs the song talks
- 3:36about, and you know, instead of this album, you know, kind
- 3:39of telling the story of my life and retracing steps and doing that chronologically,
- 3:45that song kind of does it in itself. So you know, we we
- 3:50do the things that we've done with albums in the past with one song,
- 3:53and you know, it kind of encapsulates my faith as well and kind of
- 3:58keeps us in the lanes to be as an artist. You get you don't
- 4:03get cornered too often. It's usually like, oh, what's your favorite song,
- 4:09what's your favorite memory, what's your favorite this I'm not gonna do that.
- 4:12I know out of all of those, there's one tattoo that you're like,
- 4:15damn, that was dumb. Which one is it? Which one do
- 4:18you look in the mirror and try and go that's still there? Eh?
- 4:23You know what? Man? The honesty, god truth. Is there something
- 4:26that I look back on and I'm like, you know, I wouldn't have
- 4:29done that again. But then again, I'm kind of the the anti tattoo
- 4:35guy, which there's some that I have only that I wanted when I was
- 4:41young, and I either didn't have the money or the time to get them,
- 4:44and I got them as a married dad. And you know, some
- 4:48of them are a little on the gangster side. I kind of weaponized Bible
- 4:51verses making me what they won't remaining. My wife hates it. Songs one
- 4:57forty four one. It's like, oh my God, prepare my hand for
- 5:00battle, my fingers for warfare. I wanted that for as long as I
- 5:01can remember and never got it. And I remember getting it and my wife
- 5:08was like, what's the And I told her the verse. She was like,
- 5:11I know the verse, but in context, that's not what it means.
- 5:15And I was like, it means what I wanted to mean. You
- 5:17know what I mean. There are no rules. This is my tattoo and
- 5:21it means this to me. So yeah, I kind of instead of regretting
- 5:27them, I want to and got them later in life. She's like,
- 5:30the only fingers that you're dealing with warfare is how warm the bottle needs to
- 5:33be. Don't do that exactly until that's not the case. That's still gangster
- 5:40to me. You don't listen, you don't tell her. I said it,
- 5:44but between you and me. That's what I'm told about. See you
- 5:47get it. Uh, We're we're going to dive into the album in a
- 5:53second here. But as you sat down, you brought up something I can't
- 5:56not bring up, and that is, uh, you have a certain coming
- 6:00up. Yeah, nothing serious. It's just abdominal hernia, which is normal,
- 6:05right. Yeah, but then you mentioned there's the second one on the
- 6:08books. But it's like you and a bunch of your buddies are gonna do
- 6:11it together kind of like kind of like Bridesmaids would take down Lower Broadway.
- 6:15You're doing something different with you. Yeah, hired a nurse and we're all
- 6:20have go get mosetted me. It's the same day and just kind of go
- 6:24through the healing process to get you know what I'm saying. So, if
- 6:27there's such thing as a sausage party, would this be an unsausage party now
- 6:35that you mentioned it, Yeah, yeah, yeah, I hope they don't
- 6:40do nothing to the sausage. I hope, it's just it's just I think
- 6:44the how do you uh, that would be an extreme sausage party. Yeah.
- 6:50Yeah, there's like five or six that was doing it. Man,
- 6:53it's gonna be fun. We're in. It's during football season. You're just
- 6:56gonna hang because you got did you did? I see? Uh? It
- 7:00got pressed? Are you selling? You built up this man cave on this
- 7:03property? Are you selling that place? Yeah? Sure? I never planned
- 7:08on selling it, but uh, I've been looking for a farm in my
- 7:11hometown for about fifteen years, and uh we found one. I've lived there
- 7:15my whole life and had no idea this place was there. But the more
- 7:18time we spent over there, you know, it doesn't really make sense to
- 7:23keep both of them. So we we listed the other one. We're not
- 7:26and it's not like I have to sell it. We're not in a super
- 7:29hurry or anything, but it is on the market. T he a damn
- 7:34thing on it. It was like they did something they never do. They
- 7:38called and asked before they did it, which was really cool. But my
- 7:41realtor's funny as hell. He's sassy, and uh he said TMS. He
- 7:46just called me, and I was like, well that he usually don't do
- 7:47that, and you might as well go ahead and say yes, because if
- 7:50you don't, they're gonna run it anyway, and they're gonna put something embarrassed
- 7:54on there. And they did anyway. The picture they used looked like I'd
- 7:58relapsed. It was like I woke up snorted the whole first baseline like not
- 8:07the case, just the house. It was just a bad picture. Many
- 8:09But to be honest, are you like whatever sells house? I don't care.
- 8:15Are you gonna build? Do you have a new man cave built up?
- 8:18Because the man cave you built at this first property got like pressed didn't
- 8:20like motor trender or somebody come to a whole people did one. It was
- 8:24Uh, it's a seventy five hunder square foot man cave. During COVID,
- 8:30man our our road crew really is like a family, and a lot of
- 8:35times, a lot of years, we spend more time together than we do
- 8:37with our you know, families at home. Uh, so we get used
- 8:41to seeing each other. Man in the middle of COVID, I had this
- 8:45idea, and I've got four or five carpenters in my crew. So the
- 8:48band and crew, all the guys from Nashville came down, the guys from
- 8:52Georgia came out, and we uh, we built this big man cave and
- 8:58I loved it so much. Man it on the new form, I built
- 9:01a completely identical It's like copy and paste version of it, So we're literally
- 9:07just bringing all the stuff from that one. It's already built, it's just
- 9:11waiting on stuff. When it comes to this new album. You said,
- 9:16normally your album's your life. Whatever's going on influences that, right, So
- 9:22how did you would you say this is the most different album's ever been for
- 9:26you, like you from a very long time since like the first two,
- 9:31because it's not like it doesn't cover the chatter in my life. It does.
- 9:35It's just not chronological, right, It's not you know, we in
- 9:39the past, we've a big part of the song selection process is how they
- 9:43fit the story, and we wound up with like a surplus of ninety songs
- 9:48that we started from the wheel down to ten on this one, and we
- 9:52based it more on what sonically worked as opposed to, you know, just
- 9:58just tell the story better than than this other one. So, uh,
- 10:01when we went to the studio, it was it was really the songs that
- 10:03we were we were really digging at the time, and I kind of sent
- 10:09all ninety songs to the man so our management company and to the label,
- 10:13and everybody kind of came back with their top twenty and it was top fifty,
- 10:18and then we went to top twenty and then top ten and we kind
- 10:22of there's that, dude. I value the opinions of folks around me,
- 10:26and a lot of times they hear things I don't, and sometimes I hear
- 10:31things they don't. Like the song we released today, me and my house,
- 10:35everybody fought me on it. It was like, that doesn't need to
- 10:37go on the record. It was a weird demo kind of and I was
- 10:41like, man, if you guys could hear what I hear in my head,
- 10:43like it's sick. And we put the song together and it is probably,
- 10:48if not my favorite song on the album, it's it's my second.
- 10:52How often do you because as much as you lean on opinions and stuff like
- 10:54that, at the end of the day, you're the boss, right,
- 10:58Like it's it's your face, it's your image, it's your career. How
- 11:01often do you pull rank like that? Like, Man, I'm I'm blessed
- 11:07with with the label situation that I have Scott Boar, Shutter and the folks
- 11:11at Valley Music Company. I've always it's been more of a partnership than it
- 11:16has been like an employee employee relationship. It's it's like we really all do
- 11:20getting the trenches together and kind of make decisions with you know, the evaluation
- 11:26each other's input. And you know, I feel like that's for me,
- 11:31especially in this chapter of my career, my life. Like I'm not the
- 11:33youngest dudent on the block, no one, man, I'm fitting the fitting
- 11:37to turn old four oh here in a few months. So don't make that
- 11:41sound like a big deal because some of us have crossed that line, you
- 11:43know what I'm saying, because I hadn't yet. That's I get it.
- 11:46Hey, I yet either, I'm far from dead. Bro just put out
- 11:52a topless album coming. That is true. Like my tittes are on full
- 11:56display. You can't use titties on the radio, can you? We can
- 12:01on the videos. Let's go. Yeah, it was my band we sit
- 12:05in the cover art last Sight. On our group text, it was like,
- 12:09dude, full send on the cover. Hey, how does your wife
- 12:13feel about that? Though? Is she like, oh my god, calm
- 12:16down? A little bit of both, you know what I mean? She
- 12:20kind of gets it because it really is like the album's called Tattoos, And
- 12:24like I said, all all of my albums up at this point, I
- 12:26covered the chapter of my life. And and nothing does that better visually than
- 12:31than the stories and the creeds and the things that I put on my body
- 12:37for a reason. You know that song it says, uh, you know,
- 12:39I didn't get these things as I had to, you know, like
- 12:43somebody forced me to get them. I got them for a reason. You
- 12:46know. There's there's songs on there. There's tattoos on here that you know
- 12:50I got about when you know about my my battle with addiction, you know,
- 12:54so there's some for addiction itself. And and you know, like these
- 12:58cuffs here, if you look, there's there're two different handcuffs, but do
- 13:05that they're together, and you know they pulled them apart, and they're broken
- 13:09at the bottom, and it's got the date did I I put the bottle
- 13:13down on there? So it kind of just reminds me that I'm not shackled
- 13:16by anything anymore. And uh, you know, but took my whole body
- 13:20is my story, you know, so it kind of it kind of does
- 13:24that in the soul itself. What's what's the last time you got a tattoo?
- 13:28Uh? We went and redid this whole arm. Uh. Corey Miller
- 13:35from L A. Ink or did the bottom half. Originally in the top
- 13:39was Tommy Montoya from New York, which is a crazy story because he's he's
- 13:43uh, I'll never forget. My dad called me as mad as hell and
- 13:48he was like, uh, you've seen the TV and he's everything's opening to
- 13:52the general him, it was like, I mean, yeah, there's TV's
- 13:56everywhere, Bro, I've seeing them. What am I missing? It's New
- 13:58York thing? Turn it on nowhere and uh tell me Mine. I forget
- 14:05where he's from originally, but I'm not sure Englicious his primary language. You
- 14:11know, he speaks a couple of different languages and he's got a heavy accent.
- 14:16But on that particular episode, if you look at it to this day,
- 14:20he's talking screens. Just blame it's regular when I open my mouth subtitles,
- 14:30that's a true story. That was How fuck does that work? You
- 14:33know? Does that work? You know what I mean? I got?
- 14:37I got the sub titles for real, you know. I mean, I'm
- 14:39not trying to be racist or anything else. But it's not even his primary
- 14:43language, so I need a translator. I get North of the Mason Dixon
- 14:46Line. You ought to sit it in Europe. We started the Nickelback tour
- 14:52in French speaking Canada bro them people looked at me like I was full blood
- 14:56out in my mind they already language. And then you know, I speak
- 15:03my own version of it that I guess, and that's that's I want to
- 15:05I'm glad you brought up the Nickelback tour because that's such a unique thing.
- 15:09And and it's funny because Nickelback gets such a bad rap now and they have
- 15:16for a long time, right, But like, but if I hit play,
- 15:18you'll sing along to how you remind me? Right, of course you
- 15:22will. But and it's funny because as soon as you were doing press,
- 15:24I had called Ashley. I'm like, hey, I'm like, are they
- 15:28doing uh press? She goes, well, we could get I'm sure Brandley
- 15:31would do something. I go, yeah, but Brandley and Chad still doing
- 15:33stuff or not that I didn't want to talk about it, but I was
- 15:37like, wait, tag Broker, Yeah, I'm kidding, we love you.
- 15:41How does that come about? And how do you stay open minded?
- 15:46Right? Because you've always done things your own way, But if you look
- 15:48at the tours you've been on, like, they don't I don't want to
- 15:52say they no match, but they aren't you, right, So how does
- 15:54how did you? How did that happen? And how excited were you?
- 15:58Once it was actually on the road, but it was like, man,
- 16:00you know, the tour before that was Five Finger Death Play, and that
- 16:06was the one where everybody was like, you know what, I mean,
- 16:07what's going on? Ivan and I have been friends for a long time and
- 16:12we talked about doing a song together before Blue and Black. We finally did
- 16:17a song together, and then, you know, we the conversation kind of
- 16:19turned the tour together. They were in a situation where they had toured for
- 16:27more than a decade with a lot of the same bands, and we had
- 16:32done you know, they had a really similar like working model tour model,
- 16:37and we were kind of in the same boat. It's like we'd always bring
- 16:41out two or three up and comers in our genre. It was like,
- 16:45COVID, I'm not telling you anything, you don't know, but it took
- 16:48everybody a minute. I mean, I still feel like we're still kind of
- 16:51getting back to normal on the live show side of things. So it's like,
- 16:55as opposed to offering people a similar show format that we've shown them in
- 17:00the past, you know, let's let's mix it up something, let's throw
- 17:03something at them that that they're not they don't see coming. And dude,
- 17:07it was. It was really kind of a bonus for us because a lot
- 17:11of those a lot of their fans showed up thinking what the world is country
- 17:15dude doing, and and then we showed up and did everything. They're like,
- 17:18oh, it's it's it's country, but it's not all At the same
- 17:22time, yeah, you don't and you don't do a country so anyway at
- 17:26all. There's some country stuff in there. The songs are due. I'm
- 17:30a country dude, man, That's all I've I've ever known. So I
- 17:33feel like when I write one, you know, everybody has their own definition
- 17:37of what is and what it and country if you if you don't know,
- 17:41just ask them. But I don't think they hand out degrees in that that
- 17:47area. And and to me, you know, I mean, I think
- 17:51it's all personal preference, right to me, what makes its own country is
- 17:53what it's about, you know, if it's if it's storyteller is talking about
- 17:59country things like a lot of people get caught up in the at it's got
- 18:03a rap beat on it, that rap in country's crap. It's like,
- 18:07shut the fuck up, Like the rules are out the window now, like
- 18:11we're you know, you really kind of there are no rules songs in the
- 18:17past, like if you listen to this album is another thing I'm excited about.
- 18:21In the past, sonically you wanted everything to fit and with us,
- 18:25there were always songs that we had to kind of tune down for radio,
- 18:27if it makes any sense, Like I mean, this is heavy as all
- 18:30get out. We got to change this and put some country instrumentation, you
- 18:33know, to kind of make it fall in line sonically with the rest of
- 18:37the album. And now that doesn't exist. You know, all the rules
- 18:40are out the window. And man, you hear songs on this record that
- 18:45you just you hadn't heard on a country track before. And then we'll turn
- 18:51around. There's one on the end of it that that couldn't be more country.
- 18:53It's just a guitar and a dough bro like it it. I'm really
- 19:00about that aspect of the album. But yeah, man, I think all
- 19:03the rules are out the window, and we're one of those acts we've always
- 19:07been able to kind of play in multiple sandboxes. Then that was our chance
- 19:11to show it. You know, when the Nickelback opportunity presented itself, it
- 19:15was like, man, we cannot do that. Like people can talk all
- 19:18the crap they want. They had a merch shirt right, one of their
- 19:22shirts at the merch table set it perfectly. It's a Nickelback fan or liar
- 19:29because it's like, I guarantee you the same people talking all that crap on
- 19:33social media or the same one singing every word of that show, and you
- 19:37can say what you want about them. Guys, to me, until you
- 19:42come see a show, can't really talk. Is if you come see them
- 19:47play, you won't leave talking shit. Yeah, you know you'll leave impress.
- 19:51There's no offensuch about it. Those just row men. You brought up
- 19:56the blurred lines that is country music right now, and that's kind of where
- 20:00I wanted to go next because over the last year itself, we have been
- 20:06introduced to artists who were discovered on TikTok, which was not a thing back
- 20:11in the day. Right, you have artists who are dabbling from one genre
- 20:17to another. From Beyonce did it, I feel like not super committed because
- 20:22now it feels like it's not as much of a priority. You got Post
- 20:23Malone, who's about to put out a full country album. From where you
- 20:30sit, and I'm not going to ask you to like judge each one,
- 20:33but like from where you sit, does all of that influence you seeing other
- 20:38people kind of dabble in and what does it mean for you to be you
- 20:41know, someone who's done this and watch everybody want an invite to the party?
- 20:47Well, man, you know, I see some folks roll up in
- 20:49arms about it. I like a little bit of good, healthy competition one
- 20:53And you know, to me that being said, a large part of this
- 20:59is the music business for me is it's always been more collaborative than competitive.
- 21:06It's because we've always kind of been in. If there's a box in country
- 21:10music, we know where we belong. As long as there's a box,
- 21:12I know where my spot's at that's right on the outside of it, close
- 21:15enough to touch it, but close enough to playing that other sandbox. So
- 21:21as a dude that has that's had a song on rock radio, I can't
- 21:25speak negatively to people that are kind of dancing over into this genre. I
- 21:29think it's kind of cool that they're fans of country music and spend time in
- 21:32that space. I do think that different people do it for different reasons and
- 21:36without being specific on that, like you know, you know what the reasoning
- 21:41is, and if somebody does it just to kind of with with a weird
- 21:48agenda, you know. The post thing though, I feel like just a
- 21:51natural fit for him. Dude's a country music fan. He wrote some country
- 21:53stuff he likes, you know, he likes country music. What's wrong with
- 21:57that dude on some stuff out or format? Don't follow me up, beer,
- 22:02I think it's cool. Ship and he's cover is the genre. He
- 22:04did a cover of Merle Haggard that went that went viral on TikTok a while
- 22:08back. Like the dude is it's it's almost like country first, but like
- 22:12the rap pop thing just happened. Yeah, well everybody's he ain't country this
- 22:18or he's a rapper. Dude, Look at that dude playing those sessions in
- 22:21the studio. He's smoking cigarettes. He's doing the ship that fucking Whaling and
- 22:25them did when they were in the studio, you know what I mean.
- 22:26Like he's to me again, what makes us o country is what it's about
- 22:34that And that's obviously my opinion. Somebody else is gonna have an opinion that
- 22:40something's got a rap beat in it or if it doesn't. You know,
- 22:41if you're gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the Van
- 22:45Tyck stuff. I don't have a fiddle player, you know what I mean.
- 22:49You know what I'm saying. So we're not cool, you know what
- 22:52I mean. We are what we are. Come see it, you know,
- 22:56judge it for yourself. But as far as the TikTok thing, I
- 23:00all ad meant when it first started happening, you know, especially being a
- 23:03dude that's been around for a minute. In this business, you go from
- 23:06being nominated for new artists to an old guy, you know what I mean.
- 23:11They nominates you for new artists about five six years in a row,
- 23:15and then then you're the old guy. So we've been around, man,
- 23:18if you know, I've been doing this full time. It's been my main
- 23:22gig for twenty years. This year twenty four, man, we come up
- 23:29a lot different. TikTok went around. We came up playing hole in the
- 23:33wall bars to you know, sometimes five ten people. When you play that
- 23:40room until you can't fit the crowd in there anymore, and you go up
- 23:44to the next size room in that town. And we worked all the way
- 23:47up to you know, arenas and sheds, which is I mean to me,
- 23:52that's a huge thing. Something we're super proud of us surrounding myself with
- 23:57really solid people. Man, in the last twenty years, we built something
- 24:00that you don't see every day. But also it's it's something that was built
- 24:08organically in something that grew along the way, kind of coming up the old
- 24:12school way. And I take pride in that, right. You know.
- 24:18Then it seems like these some some some folks come on the scene and it's
- 24:22just overnight, they wake up and you know, they're playing some of the
- 24:26same room as we are. And at first it was it was kind of
- 24:27like a little stand like it was a little shot to the gut. It's
- 24:33like, man, you know, like we play some nights, you wouldn't
- 24:36make enough to get to the next time. You have to stay play extra
- 24:38night, just get gas money to get to the next one, you know.
- 24:41But I look at some of these guys now as opposed to it being
- 24:48you know, something that hurts my feelings or pisses me off, I don't.
- 24:52I don't have that approach at all. I see it as it advantageous
- 24:56for us. I think it was beneficial to come up that way. You
- 24:59know, there's there's parts of touring that I feel like a lot of those
- 25:03guys come in really green, right, you throw them in front of thousands
- 25:07of people when you came up, I don't, I don't care who you
- 25:11are. Play into that room of five or ten people that don't know who
- 25:12the hell you are. You have to learn how to communicate with them.
- 25:15You have to learn how to read an audience. And that's something that a
- 25:19lot of folks coming from the TikTok side of things don't necessarily have as far
- 25:25as live show experience, you know, something they have to kind of acquire
- 25:29on the fly. So, you know, I kind of see it as
- 25:32beneficial that we came up that way, and it's kind of like earning your
- 25:34strikes to and paying dues and not that. But I think they're doing some
- 25:40of the same stuff. It's just different now. And you know, I
- 25:44don't. I don't spend a whole lot of time on social media. I
- 25:48don't lie, I don't. I don't have my passwords to my accounts for
- 25:51real. I just there's there's reasons behind that. But I mean, you
- 25:57know, if somebody shows up on the scene and they were on TikTok last
- 26:00night, you know, and they're in arena tomorrow. They're on a big
- 26:04tour tomorrow. Hey man, more power to them. You know. Well,
- 26:08look at it. Guys got a plan for everybody, and and uh,
- 26:12you know, he's he's got a purpose for everything and to each his
- 26:17own. You know, everybody's gonna find their way. And I guess it
- 26:21all comes down to putting your best foot forward on stage. And I'll put
- 26:25us up against anybodyny day in the week. The funny thing about TikTok,
- 26:30I'm glad you said that you're more accepting of it now than you were because
- 26:34we have a little extra time with you. So we're gonna try a dance
- 26:37on the stage out here. Kid. I just want to see if he
- 26:44got up and left. Last thing I want to ask you was myc arena.
- 26:48Yeah, Grandpa, the dances are bro No, that is the original.
- 26:55What anybody said, Hey, five bucks? If he Mocarina next time
- 26:59on stay is okay? Five? I got twenty five? Why not do
- 27:06it? Last thing I want to ask is collapse are more dominating country music
- 27:11than ever? Right like now? If someone puts out a song if someone
- 27:14else isn't on it, it's like, what don't you like anybody anymore?
- 27:18Uh? You just friend. The first offering we got off of this album
- 27:22is with Ashley Cook, who was a part of our on the Verse program
- 27:26with iHeart Why Ashley a rock star bro. We played a show with her
- 27:30a couple of years back, and it was when she was she was really
- 27:34new and she got on stage and owned it. Like everybody in that crowd
- 27:38was singing every word, you know what I mean? And I remember respecting
- 27:42the hell out of that. But you know that's that's like you said,
- 27:47it's a big thing now. So that was a song that we wrote at
- 27:51a retreat. Jelly Roll and h we're working on an album and we've been
- 27:55working on it forever and uh that way, didn't you just tell us that
- 27:59you and Jail you have a song? Oh, we got a bunch of
- 28:02them, man, we just got to finish it. Both those that to
- 28:04slow down long enough to finish it. But no, that was one of
- 28:08the songs we wrote that. I mean, you don't want to see me
- 28:12and Jolly Roe singing that back and forth to each other. You probably don't
- 28:15somebody might I don't. It would make a great TikTok, you know,
- 28:22bro just saying here stadiums, here we come. But that was one of
- 28:30those that there were a few songs that just weren't gonna fit an album with
- 28:33you and I, and this was one of those. And man, I
- 28:36fell in love with this song well before we were done with it. I
- 28:38mean I remember getting halfway through the chorus and being like, man, this
- 28:42this, this is the things they am after. Man, this has got
- 28:45some jews. Uh. So, you know, once we figured out,
- 28:49I think all of us knew it was one of those that you heard first
- 28:52time and everybody kind of knew it was going on the album. So the
- 28:56conversation becomes, okay, it's definitely a du a to who with. And
- 29:02you know, there were several ideas that came across the table. One that
- 29:04I loved was Pink. Somebody brought Pink up, and you know, that
- 29:10was kind of a conversation and the more I thought about it was like,
- 29:12it'd be really cool and I'd love to do a song with her at some
- 29:15point in my career. But in this chapter of my career, knowing that
- 29:18this song was going to be a single, knowing that we were probably gonna
- 29:23go to radio with it. Like I wanted somebody that was hungry and somebody
- 29:29that would work the song with me, and uh, you know, we
- 29:33threw lots of names across the board. It wasn't like we wrote the song
- 29:37and immediately you know, gods, that's an Ashley cooked song. That's that's
- 29:40who fits in that part. It was like it was a long conversation and
- 29:44it was. It was a long thought out process. And I remember at
- 29:48one point my producer, Rob berry Hill had had done some work with actually
- 29:51and he brought her name up, and I remember playing that show with her
- 29:56and how she owned that shit. And I remember going straight the streaming service
- 30:02and pulling her album up and seeing it was twenty four songs as an up
- 30:04and coming female. That was just gutsy. To me. It was ballsy,
- 30:08and I respected to sit out of it. And you look at the
- 30:11credits on that album, and she's not standing by watching the world go by.
- 30:15She's involved in the grain and the level, you know, on the
- 30:19songwriting side of things as well as the performance, and y'all listen to her
- 30:25voice and seemed like it might be something that could work when we approached that
- 30:27camp, and man, she's just she's a freaking rock star, dude,
- 30:32and she's she's a hard worker, and it's it's it's dude, I couldn't
- 30:37be I couldn't be happier. Like we talked on the phone about it,
- 30:41uh, text back and forth, and once once she got in the studio,
- 30:45I remember like her producer sent us like a kind of a board mix
- 30:51that night and it was like, oh yeah, that that was the call.
- 30:55She knocked it out of the freaking part. Uh. And since then
- 30:59I didn't know I didn't know her very well. You know, we'd played
- 31:03the show together, we talked of it, but hanging out with her and
- 31:07working this soul whatever, she's she's a trip, but she's a straight she's
- 31:11a straight work orse rock star. Got to wait till September, but the
- 31:15album is coming. We got details, we got some songs coming out in
- 31:18between now and then September thirteen, let's go the world's largest album release,
- 31:23part blocking off Broadway. Man, it's the weekend of the National Nationville Grand
- 31:30Prix Us. We're kind of piggybacking off it, and we're going to turn
- 31:34downtown into an album release party, Let's go. I love it well,
- 31:38we're excited for your congrats. And the last thing I want to ask,
- 31:41because you brought it up and if this plays back, someone's gonna be like,
- 31:44how did you not ask? Are you working on songs with Jelly?
- 31:48Are you guys trying to put together the whole album? A little bit of
- 31:51both? I mean, he's he like at this time currently, you know,
- 31:56I mean here lately they've been running both of us to him more so
- 32:01than us. I don't know how he's doing it, but you know,
- 32:06there hadn't been any spare time to work on it. But a few months
- 32:09back we found some gaps and got in the studio when we spent a week
- 32:14in there at one point, and it was like the who's who of Nashville
- 32:16songwriters came out to Lee Brice's farm and it's close enough to town where you
- 32:22know, they could still be home at night, they could write with the
- 32:24rights they had scheduled that day and then bounce out there and write with us.
- 32:28And the whole thing was if you got an idea that's against the grain
- 32:31out of pocket that you have been able to put on any other project,
- 32:36to write with any other artists bringing that shit. Let's write it that.
- 32:39It was a revolving door of just the who's who writes good stuff. It
- 32:44was wild to be a part of. But there have been songs that came
- 32:47out of that retreat that he cut on his album, their songs off that
- 32:52retreat that I cut on Mind, and I think eventually down the road,
- 32:57probously probably a whole project a man brandly appreciate the time, brother, brother,
- 33:00appreciate you having me look at that. Bam Bo
