- 0:00Speaker 1: Staying in Alice Springs.
- 0:01Speaker 2: We are going to hear from a mother whose son
- 0:03Speaker 2: was brutally attacked by a group of yous while going
- 0:06Speaker 2: for an afternoon walk in Braitlin. Her name is Saputra Micha,
- 0:11Speaker 2: but she's known as Fawn and joins me on the
- 0:14Speaker 2: line right now.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Good morning, Fawn, Good morning Kenny. How are you not
- 0:18Speaker 1: too bad? Fawn? What happened to your son?
- 0:24Speaker 3: If I recall it back on Monday two weeks ago,
- 0:27Speaker 3: on the thirtieth, my son went up for walk and
- 0:31Speaker 3: exercise and expectually when he went to the park in
- 0:38Speaker 3: Bradling area, there's a kids a bunch of kids were
- 0:41Speaker 3: sitting there as well, and then they attack him with
- 0:44Speaker 3: that axe.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Fawn, you must have been absolutely beside yourself when you
- 0:51Speaker 2: found out what had gone on.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, it's been a heart it's been a
- 0:59Speaker 3: heart during in the last two weeks now, and I
- 1:04Speaker 3: just telling myself just have to be strong to support
- 1:07Speaker 3: my son and it's really hard, like it's for your
- 1:11Speaker 3: aunt safety as well. He has become a bit concern
- 1:15Speaker 3: for me.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, I bet he has. It would be incredibly tough.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Now phone tell me, was he badly injured in that initial.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Attack, so he got crushed on his legs. That one
- 1:34Speaker 3: is from the act. Luckily my son had like a
- 1:37Speaker 3: sweatpants long sweatpants and then sucks, so the act doesn't
- 1:41Speaker 3: really cut deep to his skin, so it's just like
- 1:46Speaker 3: a scratch there. And also he gets like a kick
- 1:50Speaker 3: and then hit around his body as well. Yeah, and
- 1:56Speaker 3: we were a tent. I was bringity night the same
- 2:01Speaker 3: day and we say that five hours there to get
- 2:04Speaker 3: everything done. Even we do X ray.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Now, so I understand that he was targeted again a
- 2:14Speaker 2: few days later.
- 2:15Speaker 1: What happened that time?
- 2:18Speaker 3: So that was a Friday last week, So my frin
- 2:21Speaker 3: just finished school around three o'clock. And then at the
- 2:24Speaker 3: time that he woke out to waiting a bus and
- 2:27Speaker 3: the bus station in front of the apparently the kid
- 2:33Speaker 3: who attend him on Monday the day before, he come
- 2:38Speaker 3: back with another kid. Like there are different kids, but
- 2:42Speaker 3: one of them it's like related to the precious incident
- 2:47Speaker 3: on Monday. He saw them first and then he ran
- 2:53Speaker 3: back to school and start to school and talked to
- 2:55Speaker 3: the principal that he recognized one of those guys. They've
- 3:00Speaker 3: been waiting him outside the gate and I think he
- 3:03Speaker 3: got like from what he taught me that he got
- 3:06Speaker 3: like they're threatening him, like yell at him. So I
- 3:11Speaker 3: got a phone call from the principle that afternoon informed
- 3:16Speaker 3: me about the incident, and likely the principal offer my
- 3:22Speaker 3: son to drop him home, not sure that he's safe,
- 3:25Speaker 3: and I attend the local police station to make a report.
- 3:30Speaker 1: For what are the police, Like, what have they told
- 3:33Speaker 1: you at this point?
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yeah, so police attend my heart to take more information
- 3:45Speaker 3: from the second incident in the school, and then they
- 3:49Speaker 3: just given up that from the first incident incident on Monday.
- 3:54Speaker 3: They still doing some investigation. So yeah, I really with
- 4:01Speaker 3: things can get in place and get it done quickly.
- 4:06Speaker 3: It's just yeah, fun.
- 4:08Speaker 1: How is your son going?
- 4:12Speaker 3: He's a bit down, He's okay. He tried to be strong,
- 4:16Speaker 3: he attended school. He just tried to keep living a
- 4:20Speaker 3: normal life day to days. But I can tell that
- 4:24Speaker 3: and mentally he got a lot of anxiety. He's feeling unsafe,
- 4:29Speaker 3: like even me just to let my gut my son
- 4:33Speaker 3: go to school, always thinking a lot that what's going
- 4:36Speaker 3: to happen? You never know, And we're still in this
- 4:40Speaker 3: sun all this spring, and then the kid is just
- 4:43Speaker 3: out there. They're not getting old anywhere. So yeah, oh fun, how.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Are you going? You must be absolutely beside yourself.
- 4:58Speaker 3: I'm feeling really done and real it's that what's just
- 5:01Speaker 3: happening to my son, and it's just really make me
- 5:10Speaker 3: realize that the community that we live in just not
- 5:15Speaker 3: longer a safe place for us, and I'm thinking to
- 5:19Speaker 3: move art from this sun that's I think that's the
- 5:22Speaker 3: best way for me and my son.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I can understand why you're feeling that way, because you know,
- 5:28Speaker 2: we as parents do everything that we can to try
- 5:31Speaker 2: to keep our kids safe, and you know, then for
- 5:34Speaker 2: something like that to happen, and not only once, but
- 5:38Speaker 2: then to be threatened again just last Friday, I can't
- 5:42Speaker 2: imagine how you must be feeling.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it's just like an ongoing issue, Like I
- 5:48Speaker 3: don't know, like when they're going to come back for
- 5:50Speaker 3: my son next year, in the next two weeks. I
- 5:53Speaker 3: never know that. So yeah, for a safe consent. It's
- 5:57Speaker 3: just really worrying me that much at the moment.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Yeah, for.
- 6:04Speaker 2: What, Like, what do you think needs to happen in
- 6:08Speaker 2: the town right now, because you know, what's happened to
- 6:11Speaker 2: your young fellow is not good. Enough, you should not
- 6:13Speaker 2: have to worry about that. Like, what do you think
- 6:16Speaker 2: needs to happen?
- 6:19Speaker 3: I need a chance, I think, well, I mean, like
- 6:28Speaker 3: I really wish that a really a proper legislation regards
- 6:36Speaker 3: to the loads with kids underage doing stuff like this
- 6:40Speaker 3: because for me, like kids they do some criminal things
- 6:46Speaker 3: and they get bailed with condition, it's just not enough.
- 6:50Speaker 3: It's not giving them a different attack. And in fact
- 6:54Speaker 3: that's happened in the sound a lot of kids. They
- 6:57Speaker 3: can run around and they're thinking that, okam, so I
- 7:00Speaker 3: should be good to go and a take to make
- 7:02Speaker 3: a car or hurt somebody because they're now at the
- 7:05Speaker 3: end of the day they will get bail. Well, as
- 7:09Speaker 3: the mother of my kids, my children, I'll just stand
- 7:14Speaker 3: really straightforward to my kids and tell them that's not
- 7:17Speaker 3: right things. But it's that when they go out there,
- 7:21Speaker 3: and then as my environment, just like that, Okay, kids
- 7:24Speaker 3: can go and do things and they're not getting anything.
- 7:28Speaker 3: It's not even gonna help. So I hope they can
- 7:33Speaker 3: make something or cancel legislation in place about criminals with kids,
- 7:40Speaker 3: you know what I mean, But unfortunately I don't have
- 7:44Speaker 3: that power in my hand. I believe that so many
- 7:46Speaker 3: people out there they think the same as well, that
- 7:48Speaker 3: they really need a really strong rules of proper rules
- 7:53Speaker 3: to everyone in this community to make community safe.
- 7:56Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, and by the sound of it, you've
- 8:01Speaker 2: reached the point where you really don't want to continue
- 8:04Speaker 2: living there.
- 8:06Speaker 3: No, no, I absolutely had enough with this son, Like
- 8:10Speaker 3: I think, like for work wise, it is good, and
- 8:13Speaker 3: then people here lustily like amazing that this is a
- 8:18Speaker 3: really good community. But just out there's some people they
- 8:21Speaker 3: do kind of stuff like this, which is absolutely like,
- 8:26Speaker 3: that's sad, Like, yeah, I'm just not good.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Yep, it's incredibly sad.
- 8:31Speaker 2: And for what you've been through with your son over
- 8:34Speaker 2: the last couple of weeks is utterly heartbreaking. You know,
- 8:37Speaker 2: your son shouldn't feel unsafe walking to school or going
- 8:41Speaker 2: to school. You know, to be assaulted with an axe
- 8:44Speaker 2: is the stuff that nightmares are made off.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I really appreciate you having a chat with me
- 8:53Speaker 2: this morning. We'll stay in contact with you. I'm keen
- 8:57Speaker 2: to hear you know how things do progress us over
- 9:00Speaker 2: the next few days, So please stay in contact with us.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I really appreciate you taking the time to speak with
- 9:06Speaker 2: us this morning to give our listeners a bit of
- 9:08Speaker 2: an understanding of what it's been like for you and
- 9:12Speaker 2: your son and your family over the last couple of weeks.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you for having us.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Really appreciate your son.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Thanks Von, I appreciate yours.
