Latest / Not So Fast / Brewers Win the World Series, Bears Trade For Jeffrey Simmons
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Not So Fast with Andrew Perloff and Paul Patz,
- 0:05Speaker 1: where two longtime friends challenge each other on the biggest
- 0:08Speaker 1: sports stories.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Of the day. Here's Andrew Perloff and Paul Patz.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Not so fast, my friends.
- 0:16Speaker 4: Welcome to Not So Fast. I'm Andrew Perloff. He's Paul Paps.
- 0:19Speaker 4: We have a World Series champion. We have an NFL trade.
- 0:22Speaker 4: It's all happening, Paul.
- 0:23Speaker 5: Yeah, congrats to the entire state of Wisconsin. You're probably
- 0:25Speaker 5: tired or banged up this morning.
- 0:27Speaker 6: Have a big glass of water, aspirin, and rally. You've
- 0:30Speaker 6: got a parade in a couple days. Get ready.
- 0:31Speaker 4: All right, I know it just happened, but let's try
- 0:34Speaker 4: and put the Brewers into some historical perspective.
- 0:36Speaker 2: How great is this team?
- 0:38Speaker 5: Okay, 103 wins in the regular season. They've been in
- 0:40Speaker 5: the playoffs every year. There's no fluke to this team. Now,
- 0:43Speaker 5: we could talk about the lack of household names and
- 0:46Speaker 5: star power, but that doesn't really matter because they outscored
- 0:49Speaker 5: their opponents by 214 runs. That's better than the Dodgers.
- 0:52Speaker 5: They were dominant in the playoffs. The only challenge was
- 0:55Speaker 5: a little bit with the Padres. Otherwise, they rolled through
- 0:57Speaker 5: the Dodgers. They rolled through the Rays.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Yep.
- 0:59Speaker 4: They were 11-2 in the postseason. Here are the other
- 1:01Speaker 4: teams that have a comparable postseason record, Paul. The 76
- 1:04Speaker 4: Cincinnati Reds, the big red machine that Dan talked about
- 1:07Speaker 4: earlier this week, incredible. The 98 Yankees, universally considered one
- 1:11Speaker 4: of the great teams of all time. 99 Yankees, the
- 1:14Speaker 4: 05 White Sox, the 22 Astros, and the 2026 Milwaukee Brewers.
- 1:18Speaker 2: They're the only teams that have had runs like that.
- 1:20Speaker 5: I think the 05 White Sox could be the comp
- 1:23Speaker 5: there because Paul Canerco is not a household name.
- 1:25Speaker 6: Mark Burley, not a household name. Good players.
- 1:28Speaker 5: Jackson Churio and Contreras, they're not household names, but a
- 1:31Speaker 5: lot of people got to know in the past 10 days.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Well, the one thing about that team, though, a bit
- 1:34Speaker 4: of a one-off. Is that what we're talking about here?
- 1:37Speaker 4: Because the Brewers have been consistent. They've been in the playoffs.
- 1:40Speaker 5: Okay, now repeating and a one-off, they're totally different. I
- 1:43Speaker 5: think the Brewers are closer to repeating than they are
- 1:46Speaker 5: to being a one-off. Again, they've been in the playoffs
- 1:48Speaker 5: eight of the past nine years. Their core stays together.
- 1:51Speaker 5: Jake Bowers is a free agent. He's a good player,
- 1:53Speaker 5: but they can get along without him. Churrio's under contract.
- 1:57Speaker 5: Mizorowski under contract. They're not in danger of breaking up
- 2:00Speaker 5: this offseason. It's not like the band's breaking up.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Yeah, but one thing that I'm a little dubious about,
- 2:04Speaker 4: you're not going to get a bullpen performance like they've
- 2:07Speaker 4: gotten this October.
- 2:08Speaker 2: It's been crazy. The second you get in the fifth inning,
- 2:10Speaker 2: it's Dunzo.
- 2:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I would say, yeah, you can't expect that type
- 2:14Speaker 5: of bullpen. And you can't expect Shohei Otani not to
- 2:17Speaker 5: be present for a playoff series.
- 2:19Speaker 6: That's the other thing.
- 2:20Speaker 5: They took advantage of a Dodger squad that was not
- 2:22Speaker 5: as threatening as they looked like six months ago.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Yeah, and not only that, they didn't see Aaron Judge
- 2:27Speaker 4: in the World Series. The Rays are a great team,
- 2:29Speaker 4: don't get me wrong. But if I'm a pitcher, I'm
- 2:33Speaker 4: not so scared.
- 2:34Speaker 6: Not scared of the lineup. Yeah.
- 2:35Speaker 5: Did you find yourself, when you're watching last night, there'd
- 2:37Speaker 5: be a play and you'd hear the noise. You're like,
- 2:39Speaker 5: oh yeah, it's a Brewers home game because the crowd
- 2:41Speaker 5: was so.
- 2:42Speaker 4: heavy brewers of course of course and i also thought
- 2:45Speaker 4: last night we talked about earlier in the week the
- 2:46Speaker 4: calculus do you want them to kind of lose last
- 2:49Speaker 4: night so they could clinch it at home i of
- 2:51Speaker 4: course you said no that's.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Just too much no you can't wish that but if
- 2:54Speaker 5: you're a brewers fan who had game six tickets at
- 2:56Speaker 5: home now they did have a viewing party the milwaukee
- 2:59Speaker 5: brewers at their home park they had a viewing party
- 3:01Speaker 5: a brewing party they should call it yeah here's a
- 3:03Speaker 5: little clip from that watch the last out check this out.
- 3:08Speaker 6: Here we go.
- 3:11Speaker 5: Look at this Bingo. And there's like 20,000 people there
- 3:15Speaker 5: to watch a Jumbotron.
- 3:16Speaker 6: And they go berserk. They're pouring beers on each other's heads.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Yeah, this is great.
- 3:20Speaker 4: And by the way, you know, I think they have
- 3:21Speaker 4: a home Packers game tonight and a parade on Friday.
- 3:24Speaker 6: Wisconsin football is doing well.
- 3:25Speaker 4: Wisconsin football is doing surprisingly well. I almost think we
- 3:28Speaker 4: should be out there, Paul.
- 3:30Speaker 2: We should be in the crowd.
- 3:30Speaker 5: We should get there for the parade. We'd fit in well.
- 3:33Speaker 5: Spotted Cow, it's one of our favorites.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh. Foliage. God, cheese curds. It'd be amazing.
- 3:38Speaker 5: But it turned out to be a pretty good World Series.
- 3:40Speaker 5: You wanted to go seven games, but each game was
- 3:42Speaker 5: pretty saucy. Now, there was a point yesterday where you're like,
- 3:45Speaker 5: I don't think that once Mizorowski hit the fifth inning
- 3:47Speaker 5: and he hadn't given up two hits like this is
- 3:50Speaker 5: not their night. And I can't see him doing it.
- 3:51Speaker 5: If they can't get Miz out of there, they're not
- 3:53Speaker 5: getting the bullpen.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:54Speaker 4: I mean, we were actually texting back and forth. We
- 3:56Speaker 4: were getting pretty deep on text last.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Because Miz wasn't striking people out. And I was wondering,
- 4:00Speaker 4: does that mean he's having a good game or is
- 4:02Speaker 4: he a little bit off?
- 4:03Speaker 5: Well, when you're watching John Smoltz, he walks you through
- 4:05Speaker 5: the game like an expert, which he is. He's like, well,
- 4:07Speaker 5: Miz is throwing one hundred and two, but it's low
- 4:09Speaker 5: in the zone. They've got to stretch out.
- 4:11Speaker 6: I don't really know what he's talking about. He seems
- 4:12Speaker 6: to know what he's talking about.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Yeah, usually we send texts like that during football games.
- 4:16Speaker 4: And I think, Paul, you've been very patient, by the way.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Are we ready to transition to the big news story.
- 4:21Speaker 6: Of the day? Huge news an hour ago.
- 4:22Speaker 2: You get it, big guy. Well, okay.
- 4:24Speaker 4: The Chicago Bears made a trade for Jeffrey Simmons, the
- 4:27Speaker 4: all-world defensive tackle.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Huge compensation, two first-round picks, a fourth and a fifth.
- 4:33Speaker 4: And to me and everybody else, this says one thing.
- 4:36Speaker 4: The Chicago Bears are all in.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Yeah, if you look at the Bears' situation, the rationale
- 4:40Speaker 5: for this, Jeffrey Simmons, 29 years old, coming off being
- 4:43Speaker 5: first-team All-Pro. He's not declining. He's under contract. The Bears
- 4:47Speaker 5: do not have a dominant defensive lineman. They have Montez Sweat.
- 4:50Speaker 5: They have Austin Booker. But Dennis Allen, their coordinator, he
- 4:54Speaker 5: manufactures sets using Kyler Gordon and other people in blitz packages.
- 4:58Speaker 5: Now you have a guy who's a standalone problem, which
- 5:01Speaker 5: the Bears haven't had since like Akeem Hicks 10 years ago.
- 5:04Speaker 6: Nice pull by me.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Yeah, and listen, the Bears on paper have been pretty
- 5:08Speaker 4: good defensively. They're seventh overall in yards allowed, lower in scoring.
- 5:12Speaker 4: But you're right, they haven't scared people exactly. Montez Sweat
- 5:15Speaker 4: is coming back, so you have Sweat on the outside
- 5:17Speaker 4: and Simmons on the inside.
- 5:18Speaker 2: That's daunting.
- 5:19Speaker 6: What did you think about the price tag?
- 5:21Speaker 5: When you saw two first-round picks, 2027, 2028, the price tag, I.
- 5:26Speaker 6: Did a little bit of a lean back.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Yeah, my immediate reaction was, wow, because the other players
- 5:30Speaker 4: have been traded for two– First-round picks on the defense
- 5:32Speaker 4: side of the ball. Jalen Ramsey, all-road cornerback, that worked
- 5:35Speaker 4: for the Rams. Jamal Adams, that failed badly. Sauce Gardner,
- 5:39Speaker 4: that failed badly. Khalil Mack was okay. Then there have
- 5:42Speaker 4: been other trades, obviously. Russell Wilson was two first-round picks.
- 5:46Speaker 4: Matthew Stafford, two first-round picks. Now, is it thinking that
- 5:49Speaker 4: these first-round picks hopefully are 25 or lower?
- 5:51Speaker 5: Yeah, that's the exact thing. It's like that Micah Parsons trade.
- 5:54Speaker 5: If you trade a pick that's 25 or lower, it's
- 5:56Speaker 5: like a high second-round pick, at least mentally, technically. and
- 5:59Speaker 5: it doesn't bother you. I would say Bears fans right
- 6:01Speaker 5: now are so desperate for a winner. They don't care
- 6:03Speaker 5: about April. They care about now. And they trust Ben
- 6:07Speaker 5: Johnson implicitly. And I know Ryan Poles is technically the GM.
- 6:11Speaker 5: Ben Johnson makes all calls on personnel with that squad.
- 6:13Speaker 5: And he probably said to himself, My job is to
- 6:16Speaker 5: win a Super Bowl, not get depth at the defensive
- 6:18Speaker 5: line position with the 28th pick of the draft next year.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I got to warn you, though, it always feels this
- 6:23Speaker 2: way when the trade goes down.
- 6:24Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Kumbaya.
- 6:25Speaker 4: Jamal Adams, people didn't know that was one of the
- 6:27Speaker 4: worst trades in NFL history. Sauce Gardner, people didn't know
- 6:30Speaker 4: that was probably the worst trade in NFL history. The Colts,
- 6:33Speaker 4: everybody was high on that trade. The Colts last year
- 6:35Speaker 4: were 8-2, and they traded for Sauce Gardner from the Jets,
- 6:38Speaker 4: and he completely falls apart.
- 6:39Speaker 6: Yeah, that's fair.
- 6:40Speaker 5: But if you look at Jeffrey Simmons, there's nothing to
- 6:42Speaker 5: make you think that he will either be injured— knock on wood—
- 6:45Speaker 5: Either be injured or fall off in the next six months,
- 6:47Speaker 5: in the next year and a half. And he plays
- 6:49Speaker 5: interior defensive line.
- 6:50Speaker 6: You can't get around him. You can't avoid him like
- 6:52Speaker 6: a sauce gardener.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Okay, I'll give you another name then. Miles Garrett.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Did anyone say, oh, this is going to be a
- 6:58Speaker 4: huge injury risk for the Rams?
- 6:59Speaker 7: No.
- 6:59Speaker 4: You know, it's funny, by the way, the Bears almost
- 7:02Speaker 4: gave up more for Jeffrey Simmons than the Rams.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Did for Myles Garrett, but that hasn't worked out because
- 7:06Speaker 2: he's been injured.
- 7:06Speaker 6: Okay, let's stay with the Rams then.
- 7:07Speaker 5: Do you think the state of the NFC applied with
- 7:10Speaker 5: the Bears' decision here? Like, hey, the Seattle looks a
- 7:13Speaker 5: little vulnerable. The Rams look quite vulnerable. Let's try to
- 7:16Speaker 5: win it this year, not plan for the future.
- 7:19Speaker 4: I hear what you're saying, but the Niners are healthy.
- 7:20Speaker 4: They look like they're filling right into that void. Yes,
- 7:25Speaker 4: I think the NFC West has three contenders, and then
- 7:27Speaker 4: that is it.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Then I think Chicago is the fourth team.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Hope the three contenders beat each other up, and they
- 7:33Speaker 4: don't get home field.
- 7:34Speaker 2: The playoffs go through Chicago. That works.
- 7:36Speaker 5: Okay, let's look at the Titans side of this. You're
- 7:37Speaker 5: not playing for anything right now. Your team's kind of
- 7:40Speaker 5: a mess. You have a new head coach. I think
- 7:42Speaker 5: this is just smart planning for them. You have a
- 7:44Speaker 5: 29-year-old who can't help you do anything now. Almost to
- 7:47Speaker 5: be fair to Jeffrey Simmons... Let's let him out now.
- 7:49Speaker 5: Two first-round draft choices.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 7:51Speaker 6: This seems obvious, right?
- 7:52Speaker 4: There's no discussion on the Titans' side. Two first-round picks
- 7:55Speaker 4: for a defensive tackle?
- 7:56Speaker 6: Who's expensive. And now you've added cap room.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:59Speaker 6: And now, clearly, you got worse at defense.
- 8:01Speaker 2: You know, one thing.
- 8:02Speaker 4: He's not super expensive for the Bears. It's actually a
- 8:05Speaker 4: moderate deal for a star player. So the Bears, I think,
- 8:08Speaker 4: had to give up two first-round picks because they have
- 8:09Speaker 4: him under contract control. So the Bears are not spending
- 8:12Speaker 4: a lot. The Titans, you're right, they're not going anywhere.
- 8:14Speaker 4: So they're desperate to get rid of any money they can.
- 8:17Speaker 4: It was a perfect idea for them.
- 8:18Speaker 5: We had your boy Kevin Clark on from This Is
- 8:20Speaker 5: Football yesterday. He said he loved the Bears already. He
- 8:22Speaker 5: was texting, he goes, I told you the Bears, I
- 8:24Speaker 5: told you the Bears. Does this make them, is it
- 8:27Speaker 5: premature to call them the NFC favorite?
- 8:29Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. I mean, I think the Niners are the
- 8:31Speaker 2: strong favorite. And then I put the Bears, too.
- 8:33Speaker 6: But what happens, you know how this works.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:35Speaker 5: Bears against Seattle Monday night. Quentin Nelson versus Jeffrey Simmons,
- 8:39Speaker 5: two trade guys.
- 8:40Speaker 2: They played in week six, which is so funny, on
- 8:42Speaker 2: their old teams. It's funny. I don't really think of
- 8:45Speaker 2: the Seahawks as in that mix. Am I totally crazy?
- 8:48Speaker 6: You mean as a Super Bowl contender?
- 8:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's San Francisco one, Chicago two, and
- 8:52Speaker 4: then I would even put the Rams ahead of the Seahawks.
- 8:56Speaker 5: Talent-wise, yeah, but I like the way the Seahawks defense
- 8:58Speaker 5: can throw a shutout.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Nobody repeats anymore. Nobody repeats anymore, and you've already seen
- 9:03Speaker 2: the major flaw is Sam Darnold turned the ball over
- 9:05Speaker 2: when you get pressure on him.
- 9:06Speaker 5: But you want to talk about the trade. The Bears
- 9:08Speaker 5: paid a lot for Jeffrey Simmons. It feels like the
- 9:11Speaker 5: more you look at it, the Seahawks paid a little
- 9:13Speaker 5: for Quentin Nelson.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my God.
- 9:15Speaker 4: And also, by the way, we have to mention the
- 9:16Speaker 4: Niners only gave up a fourth-round pick for DeForest Buckner.
- 9:19Speaker 4: who some people think is exactly the same player as
- 9:21Speaker 4: Jeffrey Simmons. And I do like those two trades a
- 9:24Speaker 4: little more than I like this trade. I have to
- 9:26Speaker 4: be honest, I'm dubious. I've seen your Bears do these
- 9:28Speaker 4: kind of trades.
- 9:29Speaker 6: The Khalil Mack trade years.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Khalil Mack. I feel like the Bears have been all
- 9:32Speaker 2: in before. I don't know. I'm a little nervous. I
- 9:35Speaker 2: get it.
- 9:36Speaker 4: You can show me all the analytics and the PFF
- 9:38Speaker 4: score on Simmons, but.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Still a defensive tackle for two first-round picks, Paul?
- 9:42Speaker 5: Any chance the Bears management saw what the Brewers did
- 9:45Speaker 5: last night and said, hey, man, we got to win.
- 9:46Speaker 6: We got to deliver. It's been a million years.
- 9:49Speaker 5: No, the Brewers never won. The Bears at least have 85.
- 9:51Speaker 5: I think that game was in black and white. All right,
- 9:54Speaker 5: let's get to tonight's game. Thursday night football, Panthers at Packers.
- 9:58Speaker 5: The Panthers are a little hard to figure out. because
- 10:00Speaker 5: they had a good start of the season. Their defense
- 10:02Speaker 5: looked better. Their running game looked better. Bryce Young looked
- 10:05Speaker 5: pretty good in September. And then last week, they get
- 10:07Speaker 5: absolutely slaughtered, especially defensively, by the Buccaneers.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Well, they can't stop the run at all. Fortunately for them,
- 10:13Speaker 4: the Packers cannot run the football at all. So you
- 10:15Speaker 4: have two of the worst units going head-to-head. I hope,
- 10:18Speaker 4: and maybe this is wishful thinking, Bryce Young's going to
- 10:21Speaker 4: throw for 400 yards and Jordan Love's going to throw
- 10:23Speaker 4: for 400 yards. I think the Panthers, and double-check this,
- 10:26Speaker 4: won in the same situation last year. They were struggling,
- 10:29Speaker 4: and they took out Green Bay. So here's the thing
- 10:31Speaker 4: with the Panthers. You have no idea what they're going
- 10:33Speaker 4: to do on a given week. They're the most unpredictable team,
- 10:36Speaker 4: and if you count them out, that's usually when.
- 10:38Speaker 2: They surprise you.
- 10:38Speaker 5: And the second most unpredictable team is the team right
- 10:41Speaker 5: behind them in their division, the Atlanta Falcons. The Atlanta
- 10:43Speaker 5: Falcons can score 40 or give up 40.
- 10:46Speaker 4: What about Tampa Bay coming out? Now we're running all
- 10:48Speaker 4: over the Panthers. I think this might be a get-right
- 10:51Speaker 4: game for the Packers' run game. Josh Jacobs is back,
- 10:54Speaker 4: played last week. I think that on paper they should
- 10:57Speaker 4: win this game. But the NFC's been weird, and the
- 11:00Speaker 4: Packers have been weird.
- 11:01Speaker 5: And so the Packers have a slow start to the season,
- 11:03Speaker 5: didn't look pretty. They whip up on the Bears a
- 11:05Speaker 5: couple weeks ago. They would have had a four-game winning
- 11:08Speaker 5: streak if you include tonight. But somehow they let that
- 11:10Speaker 5: one go against the Lions with a bad pick.
- 11:13Speaker 6: Kicking game.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 11:14Speaker 4: No, they should have won that game. Tyler Smacks' last
- 11:17Speaker 4: kick did get blocked a little bit. I have a
- 11:18Speaker 4: question for you, Paul. So, the Bears are top five
- 11:22Speaker 4: in Super Bowl odds. They actually moved up after the
- 11:24Speaker 4: trade on one book from 14-1 to 11-1.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Now, they're not favorites to win their own division.
- 11:30Speaker 4: How can they be number five in Super Bowl odds,
- 11:33Speaker 4: but the Vikings are still favored over them to win
- 11:35Speaker 4: the NFC North?
- 11:36Speaker 2: Explain this.
- 11:37Speaker 5: I guess what they're saying is because of the math
- 11:39Speaker 5: with the Vikings' number of wins, they will win the
- 11:40Speaker 5: division in Bears get the wild card, but a more
- 11:43Speaker 5: threatening team in January. Vikings are not threatening in January.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Isn't it funny?
- 11:46Speaker 4: That could come down to that rain-soaked game in Chicago
- 11:50Speaker 4: when Caleb Williams is about to drive them down for
- 11:52Speaker 4: the game-winning score.
- 11:54Speaker 2: You know, get shot in the back of his leg.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 5: But a really interesting day, interesting day for football. Tonight's
- 11:59Speaker 5: going to be interesting. And to see how the Packers react.
- 12:01Speaker 5: I wonder if the Packers right now, before tonight's game
- 12:05Speaker 5: or after tonight's game, if they win tonight, do the
- 12:07Speaker 5: Packers say like, let's press the gas here a little bit.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Let's check the trade market, see what we could add
- 12:11Speaker 5: to keep up with the rest of the teams.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Oh my God. Now it's an arms race in the NFC.
- 12:15Speaker 2: It's going to be awesome.
- 12:16Speaker 3: All right.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Later on, we're going to be talking to a Brewers broadcaster.
- 12:19Speaker 4: It should be a lot of fun. Hopefully he's Relatively sober.
- 12:23Speaker 4: And next segment, I have a new face of the NBA, Paul.
- 12:27Speaker 2: A new face. We're doing a new face. That's next,
- 12:29Speaker 2: Not So Fast.
- 12:29Speaker 6: That's a tease by you.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Now, my Jeffrey Simmons jersey, do I order it now?
- 12:34Speaker 5: Do I wait until after the show? You made a
- 12:36Speaker 5: live bet on the show. I could do a live order, right?
- 12:37Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 12:38Speaker 4: You have a lot of Bears jerseys you've got to
- 12:39Speaker 4: buy right now. There's some good players.
- 12:42Speaker 6: Jeffrey Simmons.
- 12:43Speaker 2: I would want him in Nungi.
- 12:44Speaker 5: All right, Perloff, back on Not So Fast. Paxton Perloff here.
- 12:49Speaker 5: Midday pick-me-up time. A little NBA last night. Nikola Jovic
- 12:53Speaker 5: from half court, no problem for your Atlanta Hawks.
- 12:56Speaker 6: That building's going to be busy in about 10 minutes.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh. What's going on here?
- 12:59Speaker 6: Keaton Vogler from the Clippers, no problem there.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Didn't call glass. BJ. Edgecombe.
- 13:07Speaker 7: Bango.
- 13:08Speaker 6: And, of course, Trey Jones of the Bulls, a little closer.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Oh, that one doesn't belong. But that's incredible. All on
- 13:14Speaker 2: the same night. Four half court shots.
- 13:15Speaker 6: Yeah, it seems like people are just practicing them.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Wow, there you go. All right. Paul, buckle your seatbelt.
- 13:21Speaker 4: You got a big Sunday night football game coming in D.C.
- 13:24Speaker 4: The Eagles and Commanders collide in a pivotal divisional showdown.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Division's still up for grabs, technically. Sunday night football on
- 13:31Speaker 4: NBC and Peacock. Of course, I will be watching to
- 13:34Speaker 4: hope that my Eagles can salvage something. Okay, we got
- 13:37Speaker 4: Jaden Daniels and Saquon. At least the Eagles have somebody
- 13:40Speaker 4: to put into the graphic there.
- 13:43Speaker 6: Technically playing.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Technically playing. They lost another running back. Damian Pierce went
- 13:47Speaker 4: on IR. I don't get what's happening there.
- 13:49Speaker 2: But, hey, you know what? They could still make a run.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Maybe they trade for somebody.
- 13:52Speaker 6: Sure.
- 13:53Speaker 2: You know, listen, I hate the fact that you have
- 13:55Speaker 2: the Bears to root for this year.
- 13:56Speaker 6: I didn't say anything.
- 13:57Speaker 2: And I'm stuck with the Eagles.
- 13:58Speaker 6: I'm just watching you stew over there, and it's quite enjoyable.
- 14:01Speaker 4: That's why I'm doing basketball. I'm transitioning to do a
- 14:03Speaker 4: lot of LeBron NBA stuff.
- 14:04Speaker 2: There you go.
- 14:05Speaker 5: All right, it's time for warm takes here. A little
- 14:06Speaker 5: warmies to get you ready for this October.
- 14:09Speaker 6: I will go first.
- 14:09Speaker 5: I'm speaking to you, the Brewers fans, who might be
- 14:12Speaker 5: a little banged up from last night. You are now
- 14:14Speaker 5: in a state of fandom called the fog of winning.
- 14:17Speaker 5: Let me tell you a little bit about the next
- 14:19Speaker 5: few days of what you're going to experience. You woke
- 14:21Speaker 5: up this morning for work, still tired from last night.
- 14:24Speaker 5: Your alarm goes off. And there was probably about a
- 14:26Speaker 5: two or three second pause. And then you had this realization.
- 14:30Speaker 5: My team won the World Series last night. The Brewers
- 14:31Speaker 5: are World Series champs. And it hits you all over
- 14:33Speaker 5: like a glass of water in your face in the morning.
- 14:36Speaker 5: And it's like a re-realization. Then today, you're going to
- 14:39Speaker 5: spend the day recapping the night with your coworkers, ordering
- 14:42Speaker 5: merch from the website. You're going to walk around today
- 14:45Speaker 5: as if you're on some type of drug.
- 14:47Speaker 6: The drug is winning.
- 14:48Speaker 5: And then here's how it's going to go. In 2004,
- 14:51Speaker 5: I was outside Fenway Park with Dan Patrick hours after
- 14:54Speaker 5: the Boston Red Sox won the World Series. It looked
- 14:57Speaker 5: like a zombie march of happy, crazy, weird people.
- 15:00Speaker 6: They were all walking.
- 15:01Speaker 5: Around Fenway Park, buying merch, hugging each other, taking pictures
- 15:04Speaker 5: of an inanimate ballpark with nothing in it. That's what
- 15:07Speaker 5: you're going to feel like.
- 15:09Speaker 6: In 2016, when the Cubs won, I was that smiling idiot.
- 15:12Speaker 5: For three or four days. You could have asked me
- 15:14Speaker 5: for a loan, I would have given it to you.
- 15:15Speaker 5: My daughters asked me to take them to the toy store.
- 15:17Speaker 6: I bought everything for them. I was confused.
- 15:19Speaker 5: I was excited about the Cubs. And then comes the parade.
- 15:23Speaker 5: Everyone gets together. You get a couple pops in you,
- 15:25Speaker 5: a couple spotted cows, and.
- 15:26Speaker 6: You enjoy it.
- 15:27Speaker 5: You settle in for a parade, the all-time great parade
- 15:30Speaker 5: around the brewers. And about the next week, you'll be
- 15:35Speaker 5: like a kid at the end of a roller coaster.
- 15:37Speaker 5: You know, and you see there's only a couple more
- 15:39Speaker 5: hills on the roller coaster. Oh, it's over, the old denouement,
- 15:43Speaker 5: as they say. You don't want it to end, but
- 15:45Speaker 5: at some time, you have to go back to normal life,
- 15:47Speaker 5: and your head goes back to a normal fan space.
- 15:50Speaker 5: So a week from now, your life will return to normal.
- 15:53Speaker 6: You'll go to work. You'll have bills.
- 15:54Speaker 5: You'll have mortgages. You'll have back pain. But you'll always
- 15:57Speaker 5: have this 2026 Brewers team. And all you've got to
- 16:00Speaker 5: do is think back about those few days before, after,
- 16:03Speaker 5: during the parade, taking down the Dodgers. And it'll be like, again,
- 16:07Speaker 5: I mentioned this a month ago, this warm blanket that
- 16:09Speaker 5: you could put on you as a fan.
- 16:11Speaker 6: And you can always put it.
- 16:12Speaker 5: On 10 years from now, 20 years from now, because
- 16:14Speaker 5: it never, ever goes away.
- 16:16Speaker 2: You know, Knicks fans around here in New York are
- 16:19Speaker 2: still celebrating. It's October.
- 16:20Speaker 6: Right.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I feel like maybe Brewers fans, they're known to party.
- 16:24Speaker 4: They can keep this going the past few days, but
- 16:26Speaker 4: you're saying there will be a sort of letdown.
- 16:29Speaker 5: There's a euphoria for about five or six days as
- 16:32Speaker 5: a fan of a team. And it has to be
- 16:34Speaker 5: a team that's never won it before. I'm not talking
- 16:36Speaker 5: about some team that won it 10 years ago. Brewers fans,
- 16:38Speaker 5: they're on the moon right now. They don't know what
- 16:41Speaker 5: to do with themselves. They're confused.
- 16:42Speaker 6: Again, 2016, Cubs fans, they didn't know what to do
- 16:45Speaker 6: with themselves.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Yeah, well, listen, I'm very, very jealous of those Brewers
- 16:49Speaker 4: fans right now. Okay, I'm going to go to the
- 16:50Speaker 4: NFL for my first warm take. Usually when you say
- 16:54Speaker 4: split up somebody, it means they're too good. The NFL
- 16:56Speaker 4: needs to split up the NFC and AFC South. Now,
- 17:00Speaker 4: this year, the NFC South is 10-17, the second worst
- 17:02Speaker 4: division in football. The AFC South is 9-18, the worst
- 17:05Speaker 4: division in football. And it's not just that. These teams
- 17:08Speaker 4: are depressing, up and down. None of them have a
- 17:11Speaker 4: direction that's headed toward a Super Bowl. None of them
- 17:13Speaker 4: have stability at quarterback. None of them have stability and ownership.
- 17:17Speaker 4: Very few of them have, except for maybe Jacksonville, by
- 17:19Speaker 4: the way. Very few of them have coaching stability. They're
- 17:23Speaker 4: kind of a mess. And a lot of them have
- 17:24Speaker 4: been a mess for a long time. Look at the Colts.
- 17:27Speaker 4: I don't know what's happening there. Houston was supposed to
- 17:29Speaker 4: be great. They are maybe the most disappointing team in
- 17:32Speaker 4: the entire NFL. Tennessee is an utter and total disaster,
- 17:36Speaker 4: probably the biggest disaster in the NFL. And I got
- 17:38Speaker 4: to tell you, the NFC South is no different. I mean, listen,
- 17:41Speaker 4: a few years ago, Tom Brady won the division in
- 17:43Speaker 4: eight and nine. Are we really doing this? Are we
- 17:45Speaker 4: really doing eight and nine division winners? And you know
- 17:47Speaker 4: what's going to happen. This year, it could be another
- 17:49Speaker 4: eight and nine team out of the NFC South. I
- 17:51Speaker 4: am just tired of this.
- 17:52Speaker 2: So in a couple of years, the NFL is rumored
- 17:54Speaker 2: or reportedly going to go to 34 teams. And then
- 17:58Speaker 2: maybe 36, depending on international. They either want an international
- 18:01Speaker 2: team or they want to dramatically expand the international play
- 18:04Speaker 2: and they want to bring in midweek football.
- 18:06Speaker 4: So when they go to 34 or 36, you have
- 18:09Speaker 4: to break up the San Jose South. You have to
- 18:11Speaker 4: either put a more competent franchise in there or move
- 18:14Speaker 4: some of the... the consistent cellar dwellers into another division.
- 18:18Speaker 5: Yeah, they are kind of close together. There's some proximity
- 18:21Speaker 5: to them, which I like. But it does feel like
- 18:23Speaker 5: sometimes when the Big 12 is down and they don't
- 18:25Speaker 5: have a threatening team, you're like, hey, the football's okay,
- 18:28Speaker 5: but they're not really threatening. I would say, though, one thing,
- 18:31Speaker 5: if the NFL ever does go to 34 teams... You
- 18:34Speaker 5: must make a rule that if you're under 500, you
- 18:36Speaker 5: cannot participate in the playoffs. The fans will love it.
- 18:39Speaker 5: Everyone will love it.
- 18:39Speaker 6: It'll make the playoffs better. You get an extra threatening
- 18:42Speaker 6: team in there.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 18:44Speaker 4: You might have some unwanted consequences of that, like every
- 18:46Speaker 4: NFL rule. But I tell you, Dallas, last time I
- 18:48Speaker 4: looked at a map, Paul, they're in the south and
- 18:50Speaker 4: they play in.
- 18:50Speaker 2: The NFC East. It's not like the NFL has any
- 18:53Speaker 2: problem breaking this stuff up. That's true.
- 18:55Speaker 6: They love the tradition of the Cowboys, though. Here we go.
- 18:57Speaker 6: My next warm take is this.
- 18:58Speaker 5: I was driving in today, and I was just thinking
- 18:59Speaker 5: about the year of 2026 in sports.
- 19:02Speaker 6: Let me just recap a little bit.
- 19:03Speaker 5: In the past 10 months, the Indiana Hoosiers won the
- 19:06Speaker 5: college football national title, with Fernando Mendoza winning the Heisman.
- 19:10Speaker 5: That enough would be a galactic year for an underdog.
- 19:13Speaker 5: Sam Darnold and the Seahawks won the Super Bowl, convincingly.
- 19:16Speaker 5: USA Men's Hockey wins gold over Canada in the Winter Olympics.
- 19:21Speaker 6: Feel good story? Great story.
- 19:22Speaker 5: The New York Knicks, with 53 regular season wins, win
- 19:25Speaker 5: the NBA Finals. Now you have the Milwaukee Brewers. Not
- 19:28Speaker 5: a big, big surprise, but maybe a historical surprise. The
- 19:31Speaker 5: Brewers are the champions. Pearl, I'm just going to say this.
- 19:34Speaker 5: We may have peaked as sports fandom for all those
- 19:38Speaker 5: things in a 10-month span. It just feels like the
- 19:41Speaker 5: greatest year for movies. Let's say it's 1984. This might
- 19:44Speaker 5: be a hard year to top sports wise i look
- 19:47Speaker 5: forward to being topped oh you're giving me the not
- 19:50Speaker 5: so fast.
- 19:51Speaker 2: You're telling me a year– if you're talking about the
- 19:53Speaker 2: greatest year in sports, you look back, I don't know.
- 19:56Speaker 7: You have the Yankees, the Dodgers.
- 19:58Speaker 2: You're telling me that Sam Darnold and the Seahawks is
- 20:01Speaker 2: going to be like, oh, my God, do you remember
- 20:02Speaker 2: that year Seattle won and all of America rejoiced? What
- 20:04Speaker 2: are you talking about?
- 20:05Speaker 5: I'm a man of the people. I'm here for the underdog.
- 20:07Speaker 5: I'm saying this is a year where if I said
- 20:10Speaker 5: a year ago two of those six things would have happened–
- 20:14Speaker 5: I would have been ostracized. Ostracized in the community.
- 20:17Speaker 4: You really think you would have been ostracized or kicked
- 20:19Speaker 4: out of the house? But let me ask you this.
- 20:21Speaker 4: Why is the Brewers beating the Rays? Is that going
- 20:23Speaker 4: to go down as an all-time great World Series?
- 20:25Speaker 6: No, it's more about the entire year together. You have
- 20:28Speaker 6: a team that's been... The Milwaukee Brewers have been likable,
- 20:31Speaker 6: but they never felt threatening. With the Dodgers there, they
- 20:34Speaker 6: never felt threatening.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Right, but I just don't think, if you're looking at history,
- 20:37Speaker 4: I certainly think the Seahawks-Patriots is going to be on
- 20:39Speaker 4: the low end of Super Bowl buzz.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Bottom third, for sure.
- 20:43Speaker 5: But again, it's a team that no one talks about
- 20:45Speaker 5: with a quarterback that people moved on from.
- 20:47Speaker 6: Fernando Mendoza winning the Heisman. I know you're poo-pooing. You're
- 20:49Speaker 6: not so fast.
- 20:50Speaker 4: I mean, it's not like the Red Sox beat the
- 20:53Speaker 4: Yanks in 2004 or the Patriots.
- 20:55Speaker 2: It's the collective. I have to say, maybe I'm reasonably biased.
- 20:58Speaker 2: It is the year of the underdog. Is that what
- 20:59Speaker 2: you're going for? Yes. But I don't know if it's
- 21:01Speaker 2: the greatest year in sports.
- 21:03Speaker 6: You guys weigh in. Hit us up at NotSoFast on Twitter.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:07Speaker 2: I mean, I know this all sounds good in theory,
- 21:09Speaker 2: but come on.
- 21:10Speaker 6: But it was in theory. It actually happened.
- 21:12Speaker 2: And by the way, the Knicks, the biggest market in
- 21:14Speaker 2: the world, come in there.
- 21:15Speaker 6: They're even cute and fuzzy.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Yeah, well, maybe. Let's switch to a little NBA.
- 21:21Speaker 4: Last night, Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks had a
- 21:23Speaker 4: standalone game, got a lot of eyeballs playing the Oklahoma
- 21:26Speaker 4: City Thunder, the Decimated Thunder, G League Thunder. But I
- 21:30Speaker 4: have to tell you, you have to watch Cooper Flagg.
- 21:32Speaker 4: Cooper Flagg is already becoming the face of the NBA.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Very similar to Zion Williamson. Let me tell you why.
- 21:39Speaker 4: He is absolutely bizarre for his size. The way he
- 21:42Speaker 4: moves and runs. He's half Kevin Garnett, half Luka Doncic.
- 21:47Speaker 4: He is an unbelievable tall player. He has almost seven
- 21:50Speaker 4: assists a game, so he handles the ball like he's
- 21:52Speaker 4: a point guard.
- 21:53Speaker 2: And he's very young.
- 21:55Speaker 4: He's gotten much more aggressive on offense at 26 last night.
- 21:58Speaker 4: I know how the NBA works. I know what young
- 22:00Speaker 4: fans like. I'm not a young fan, but I think
- 22:03Speaker 4: like a young fan. Cooper Flagg is about to get
- 22:05Speaker 4: a lot of attention.
- 22:07Speaker 2: And I think he's unusual. And not because he's a
- 22:09Speaker 2: white player.
- 22:09Speaker 4: He's unusual because of his combination of size, speed, ball handling, shooting,
- 22:15Speaker 4: and vertical. I think he's a really unique player. He's
- 22:19Speaker 4: very much like Zion to me. We have not seen
- 22:21Speaker 4: a Cooper Flagg. If you want to do a simple...
- 22:23Speaker 4: Player comp, it's not there. And he's not a foul
- 22:25Speaker 4: merchant like SGA or James Harden. He's very, very fun
- 22:28Speaker 4: to watch.
- 22:28Speaker 5: You know what's interesting about him? He leads with the twos,
- 22:31Speaker 5: not the threes. And Jalen Brunson leads with the twos,
- 22:33Speaker 5: not the threes. SGA, twos over threes. You've got young
- 22:37Speaker 5: stars in this league who are realizing there's openings. There's
- 22:40Speaker 5: openings that I have a handle on. And Cooper Flagg
- 22:42Speaker 5: has a sneaky good handle. He can get to the
- 22:45Speaker 5: rim anytime he wants.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Well, now he's a point guard. By the way, he
- 22:48Speaker 4: settled for about 11 threes last night.
- 22:50Speaker 3: I know.
- 22:51Speaker 6: It's going to develop. It's like if he adds a three,
- 22:54Speaker 6: it makes him more threatening.
- 22:54Speaker 4: The way he moves, though, he's just so long as
- 22:57Speaker 4: a player. He's very unusual. Nobody cares about the current story.
- 23:01Speaker 4: You always want next in the NBA. He is next
- 23:03Speaker 4: big time.
- 23:04Speaker 6: One of the greatest players in Maine history.
- 23:06Speaker 2: All right, here we go.
- 23:06Speaker 5: Brewers broadcaster Jeff Levering, our buddy. How is he doing
- 23:10Speaker 5: after last night? We'll find out.
- 23:11Speaker 6: We're going to go to Tampa and see how it's going.
- 23:13Speaker 6: Stick around. Not so fast.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Yeah, not so fast in your year of sports. You did.
- 23:18Speaker 6: You double-knocked.
- 23:18Speaker 2: When you said this is going to be one of
- 23:19Speaker 2: the great years, I'm like.
- 23:20Speaker 6: I was having a good day, and you double-knocked the best.
- 23:22Speaker 2: No, you should have gone more year of the underdog.
- 23:25Speaker 6: Like year of the rat? Kind of like that?
- 23:31Speaker 8: The 2-1 pitch. Ground ball, second base. Terang has it.
- 23:35Speaker 8: Goes to first. The wait is over! The Brewers have
- 23:40Speaker 8: won the World Series!
- 23:43Speaker 2: They have done it!
- 23:45Speaker 6: This relentless bunch.
- 23:50Speaker 8: Who nobody gave a chance to at the beginning of
- 23:52Speaker 8: the season.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Wow, that was awesome.
- 23:55Speaker 4: That's the voice of Jeff Levering, the Brewers' play-by-play announcer.
- 24:00Speaker 4: That was just so amazing and emotional.
- 24:03Speaker 2: And very cool.
- 24:03Speaker 5: Yeah, it's good to have Jeff. He was on our
- 24:06Speaker 5: show last week. Might be roughed up from the celebration
- 24:08Speaker 5: last night. Let's go and find out.
- 24:09Speaker 2: All right, Jeff, how much sleep are you operating on
- 24:12Speaker 2: right now?
- 24:13Speaker 1: Just a couple of winks. Nothing crazy. Man, what a celebration.
- 24:17Speaker 1: And I know this doesn't look like Lake Michigan, but
- 24:19Speaker 1: we're going to be on Lake Michigan before we know it, folks.
- 24:22Speaker 5: Okay, Jeff, let's get to last night. I want to
- 24:24Speaker 5: go back to the night before when they had the
- 24:26Speaker 5: loss in game four. What level of trepidation was there
- 24:31Speaker 5: that Mizorowski use them or not this and that?
- 24:33Speaker 6: Like, did it calm everything down and make people nervous
- 24:36Speaker 6: up there?
- 24:37Speaker 1: I would say that there were a handful of people
- 24:39Speaker 1: that got a little nervous. But if you would ask
- 24:42Speaker 1: the people in the clubhouse, there were no nerves whatsoever.
- 24:44Speaker 1: They knew that they had their horse on the mound
- 24:46Speaker 1: for a game five, fully rested, ready to go. And
- 24:50Speaker 1: he showed out yesterday. Before the game, you'd see guys
- 24:54Speaker 1: doing their crossword puzzles and listening to music and being loose.
- 24:57Speaker 1: And that's what just this club has been. And everybody
- 25:00Speaker 1: said it in the postgame celebrations. It's like we're hanging
- 25:03Speaker 1: out with our best friends. And that's, at the end
- 25:05Speaker 1: of the day... that's what it takes to win championships,
- 25:08Speaker 1: and the Brewers have done it for the first time.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Jeff, what did you think of Jacob Mizorowski's performance last night?
- 25:12Speaker 4: It wasn't the strikeouts and all the fast pitches. He
- 25:16Speaker 4: seemed more controlled, though.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I say he pitched, right? I mean, he was
- 25:20Speaker 1: still sitting 100 to 102 miles an hour with his fastball.
- 25:24Speaker 1: The cutter was good. The slider was good, but he pitched.
- 25:27Speaker 1: He was remarkable, and then the cramp started coming up
- 25:30Speaker 1: again like it did in the beginning part of the season,
- 25:32Speaker 1: so he couldn't finish that sixth inning, but I tell you,
- 25:35Speaker 1: he was brilliant. And Pat Murphy, before the game, he
- 25:37Speaker 1: knew that he was going to have a good start
- 25:39Speaker 1: in him, and that's exactly what Miz delivered yesterday. He
- 25:41Speaker 1: pitched like the ace and the probable Cy Young Award winner.
- 25:44Speaker 5: So, Jeff, the Brewers are kind of interesting because historically
- 25:47Speaker 5: they're an underdog because they haven't won it ever and
- 25:49Speaker 5: they haven't been in it since 82. But this year,
- 25:52Speaker 5: if you watch Brewer baseball and paid attention to baseball,
- 25:54Speaker 5: they dominated the whole way. It almost felt like a
- 25:56Speaker 5: wire to wire. I think they outscored their opponents by
- 25:58Speaker 5: 215 runs. The only hiccup was even just a little
- 26:02Speaker 5: bit against the Padres. Do you think history will give
- 26:05Speaker 5: this team its due?
- 26:06Speaker 2: I think so.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I mean, this is a historic run, 11-2 in the postseason,
- 26:10Speaker 1: totally dominated. The losses were by one run apiece. They
- 26:15Speaker 1: didn't just beat these teams. They steamrolled the postseason. They
- 26:19Speaker 1: went through the Padres. They made the Dodgers look old
- 26:23Speaker 1: and slow, and they took it to the Tampa Bay Rays.
- 26:27Speaker 1: And this was an impressive run, as you'll see in
- 26:29Speaker 1: Major League Baseball today. For all the pundits that didn't
- 26:32Speaker 1: believe it, everybody in that clubhouse believed it from day
- 26:35Speaker 1: number one. And then around the middle of August, they
- 26:38Speaker 1: started to prove it.
- 26:40Speaker 4: So, Jeff, I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong,
- 26:42Speaker 4: you won a, did you win a college baseball title?
- 26:46Speaker 2: Oh, I did, yeah.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Division III.
- 26:48Speaker 4: So you know what it takes to win. But it
- 26:50Speaker 4: seems like everyone pointed to one thing, teamwork. Not necessarily
- 26:53Speaker 4: that they had the best players, but everybody pushing in
- 26:56Speaker 4: the same direction.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Explain what that meant for the Brewers.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm not going to equate what this
- 27:01Speaker 1: Brewers team did to my 2003 Chapman University World Series
- 27:06Speaker 1: title in Appleton, Wisconsin. It was a great squad, historic squad.
- 27:10Speaker 1: But it really is everybody pulling together on the same rope.
- 27:14Speaker 1: And they are cliches for a reason, right? Because they work.
- 27:17Speaker 1: And I think that this group came together.
- 27:21Speaker 2: So well.
- 27:22Speaker 1: There was no one person that cared about their statistics
- 27:26Speaker 1: more than the common goal of what this team wanted
- 27:30Speaker 1: to be. And they ended up achieving something that no
- 27:33Speaker 1: other team in franchise history has done.
- 27:34Speaker 5: All right, Jeff, let's go after the game. Perloff and I,
- 27:38Speaker 5: we watched about five minutes of the postgame, then we
- 27:39Speaker 5: had to hit the sack because we're soft. What was
- 27:42Speaker 5: the postgame moment, either on the field, in the clubhouse,
- 27:46Speaker 5: in the ballroom back at the party? What are the
- 27:48Speaker 5: moments after the game that you'll always remember?
- 27:50Speaker 1: Yeah, so I tapped out after the celebration at the field,
- 27:54Speaker 1: which is kind of nice. There was a party and
- 27:56Speaker 1: then a post-post party and then I think a post-post-post party.
- 28:00Speaker 1: I'm not sure anybody has any sleep right now. We're
- 28:03Speaker 1: about ready to hop on a flight back to Milwaukee
- 28:05Speaker 1: in a few minutes. But I think the biggest moment
- 28:08Speaker 1: for me was watching William Contreras come out of the clubhouse.
- 28:12Speaker 1: with the world series trophy. He had the Venezuelan flag
- 28:15Speaker 1: draped over his shoulders. He started this year winning the
- 28:17Speaker 1: world baseball classic with Venezuela and it becomes a world
- 28:20Speaker 1: series MVP. And then his team wins the, the world
- 28:24Speaker 1: series for the first time in franchise history. And just the,
- 28:27Speaker 1: the sheer emotion on his face at the podium, you
- 28:30Speaker 1: don't see these guys show a lot of emotion. Um,
- 28:33Speaker 1: but seeing these guys act like kids and seeing these
- 28:36Speaker 1: guys finally let loose, um, The Brewers destroyed that clubhouse
- 28:40Speaker 1: in Tampa last night, to tell.
- 28:41Speaker 2: You that much.
- 28:43Speaker 4: Jeff, we talked last time when you were on about
- 28:45Speaker 4: your call. It was sort of an homage to Bob Uecker.
- 28:47Speaker 4: And Bob Uecker's name has come up a lot. Over
- 28:50Speaker 4: the next two days, how do you expect fans and
- 28:53Speaker 4: Brewers players to sort of pay tribute to the late
- 28:55Speaker 4: Bob Uecker?
- 28:57Speaker 1: I think that it's a continuous thing, right? And I
- 29:00Speaker 1: didn't do anything in my call which would have... You
- 29:03Speaker 1: paid homage to Uke. I know Joe Davis did the
- 29:05Speaker 1: call to get up, get out of here, gone for
- 29:07Speaker 1: Cooper Pratt's home run in game number four. But I
- 29:11Speaker 1: think everybody is feeling Uke, right? He spent 54 years
- 29:15Speaker 1: in this organization, the blood, the sweat, the tears. I
- 29:18Speaker 1: think about the 82 team that came so close that
- 29:20Speaker 1: is still revered as a championship team in Milwaukee, even
- 29:24Speaker 1: though they didn't win the World Series. You think about
- 29:26Speaker 1: all the fans, but Uke is front and center with everybody.
- 29:31Speaker 1: You know, we wore plaid jackets for game number one
- 29:33Speaker 1: of the World Series, and I'm sure there will be
- 29:35Speaker 1: plenty of plaid jackets going around at the parade tomorrow.
- 29:37Speaker 5: Okay, before we get you out of here, we always
- 29:39Speaker 5: have to talk about can a team repeat. They do
- 29:41Speaker 5: set up well. Your Brewers set up pretty well. Churrio
- 29:44Speaker 5: under contract. Mizorowski under contract. The core that we saw,
- 29:47Speaker 5: if you're a person who just learned about the Brewers
- 29:50Speaker 5: over the past month, will that core look pretty much
- 29:52Speaker 5: the same next year?
- 29:53Speaker 1: Yeah, most of the team is under contract and has
- 29:56Speaker 1: control for a long time. Plus, they have the number
- 29:58Speaker 1: one farm system in Major League Baseball. Uh, I got
- 30:01Speaker 1: a feeling, I mean, the brewers right now, they've been
- 30:03Speaker 1: in the playoffs every year with the exception of 22
- 30:05Speaker 1: since 2018. Uh, I don't anticipate that changing anytime soon.
- 30:09Speaker 1: They're only going to get better. We talked about it
- 30:12Speaker 1: last time. Um, last year, I think the brewers developed
- 30:15Speaker 1: some blisters. They've got the calluses now and then they've
- 30:17Speaker 1: got a championship.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Under their belt.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Jeff, what's, what's your role for the parade?
- 30:21Speaker 1: Oh, I'm just going to be smiling and waving, which
- 30:24Speaker 1: is kind of nice.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Um, Yeah, that's it.
- 30:27Speaker 1: They asked Brian Anderson is going to be doing the emceeing,
- 30:29Speaker 1: which is great. So he let him do it. And
- 30:32Speaker 1: I'm just going to smile and wave and have a
- 30:35Speaker 1: few or 15 Miller lights and rock and roll.
- 30:37Speaker 6: Oh, man, I wish we could go with you. Last thing.
- 30:40Speaker 5: What are you going to say from your call, your games,
- 30:42Speaker 5: the World Series? Do you like the scorecard, your notes,
- 30:44Speaker 5: your flip chart? What do you say? Because this is
- 30:47Speaker 5: Brewer history now. I know this is paperwork to you,
- 30:50Speaker 5: but I'm sure you realize what a big deal this is.
- 30:51Speaker 5: And this could be in the Brewers ballpark forever.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Yeah, what I'm going to save is the final score
- 30:58Speaker 1: sheet that I have. I'm going to try and get
- 31:00Speaker 1: as many people to sign it from the Brewers team
- 31:02Speaker 1: as possible and then frame it. That's just something that
- 31:06Speaker 1: I will always have. And from every celebration, I will
- 31:09Speaker 1: always take a cork from the champagne. So I've got
- 31:11Speaker 1: my cork and I've got my score sheet that will
- 31:15Speaker 1: live with me forever.
- 31:16Speaker 5: All right, Jeff, you got the title last night. You
- 31:17Speaker 5: got the D3 title. I just want to let you
- 31:19Speaker 5: know I'm hearing cork. You were the first ever two-time guest,
- 31:23Speaker 5: Jeff Levering, on Not So Fast. Congratulations for that.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh. That's way better than any other stuff.
- 31:29Speaker 6: Lots of guys win the World Series.
- 31:30Speaker 2: If you want to send us that signed scorecard, you
- 31:34Speaker 2: can send it to our studio.
- 31:35Speaker 5: Yeah, we don't have shirts yet, but we'll send you
- 31:36Speaker 5: a big box of respect.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Oh, perfect.
- 31:39Speaker 1: I appreciate it, guys.
- 31:39Speaker 6: It's in the mail.
- 31:41Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Jeff, hopefully we'll talk to you again next season. Really
- 31:44Speaker 4: appreciate the time, buddy.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Thank you. You got it. Take care, guys.
- 31:47Speaker 7: Wow.
- 31:47Speaker 6: That's pretty cool.
- 31:48Speaker 5: Like, I would always think to myself, I've heard stories
- 31:50Speaker 5: about Vin Scully saving things, Brent Musburger, Mike Tirico. Like
- 31:54Speaker 5: the people who do the calls of the games, do
- 31:56Speaker 5: they save their scorecard? And does the team say, can
- 31:58Speaker 5: we have this?
- 31:58Speaker 6: Can we put this up in the lobby? Because that's
- 32:01Speaker 6: stuff that the locals would nerd out about.
- 32:03Speaker 2: So what you're saying is he's probably not going to
- 32:05Speaker 2: send it our way?
- 32:06Speaker 6: He is not. As much as it would be good here,
- 32:08Speaker 6: probably at the Brewers ballpark.
- 32:09Speaker 4: Were you a little bit taken aback by how sober
- 32:12Speaker 4: he seemed?
- 32:12Speaker 2: I mean, this is the Milwaukee Brewers. I thought he'd
- 32:15Speaker 2: be a little bit tipsy.
- 32:16Speaker 5: Yeah, his hair looked good. He looked like he got
- 32:17Speaker 5: a full night's sleep. I was really unexpected.
- 32:19Speaker 4: He said he went to bed after the on-field party. Well,
- 32:22Speaker 4: I guess he's saving it up for Friday.
- 32:23Speaker 6: Did he get more sleep than we got last night?
- 32:25Speaker 2: Probably. I mean, actually, I don't think he slept much.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Can you imagine the high he was on?
- 32:31Speaker 5: Yeah, but just so you know, Fritzie from the Dan
- 32:33Speaker 5: Patrick Show has reached out to the Brewers about guests today.
- 32:36Speaker 5: And I can assure you that the PR staff is
- 32:39Speaker 5: working on no sleep.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 32:40Speaker 4: Okay, coming up next, Ernie Johnson announced his retirement, came
- 32:44Speaker 4: on with Dan today, and had a very interesting and
- 32:46Speaker 4: sort of powerful conversation.
- 32:47Speaker 2: We'll dive into it next. Not so fast.
- 32:50Speaker 6: Wow. First ever two-time guest.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, his hair is perfect today. What's up
- 32:54Speaker 2: with that?
- 32:54Speaker 6: Annoyingly perfect.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Can't you party a little, Jeff? Yeah, kick it up
- 32:58Speaker 2: a bit. He did say he'd have 15 beers later
- 33:01Speaker 2: this week. That's not bad.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Was there any time when there was any trepidation about
- 33:10Speaker 1: the show being successful?
- 33:12Speaker 3: No. Why? I think there was trepidation when it was
- 33:17Speaker 3: just me doing the show. Way back, it was like,
- 33:22Speaker 3: people watching this? But when Kenny and I got together
- 33:29Speaker 3: and started doing this together before Chuck got there, I
- 33:34Speaker 3: was like, this is it's a lot of fun. This
- 33:36Speaker 3: Kenny Smith dude is really natural. And, um, but then
- 33:41Speaker 3: when Chuck came along and kind of changed the landscape,
- 33:45Speaker 3: it was like, wow, this is, I hope I'm part
- 33:49Speaker 3: of this. This, this could really be fun. I hope
- 33:51Speaker 3: they don't look and say, we need somebody else to
- 33:53Speaker 3: do the show. So, um, no, then there was never
- 33:57Speaker 3: any doubt. It was, um, you know, an adding shack
- 34:00Speaker 3: the same, same way. There was just never a, A doubt.
- 34:04Speaker 3: The question was always, how long are we going to
- 34:06Speaker 3: do this?
- 34:07Speaker 5: Back on Not So Fast, pass the pearl off here.
- 34:09Speaker 5: That is Ernie Johnson, who announced yesterday that he intends
- 34:12Speaker 5: to retire at the end of the season from Inside
- 34:14Speaker 5: the NBA, the long-running show, one of the most successful
- 34:17Speaker 5: sports studio shows in history, if not the most.
- 34:20Speaker 4: Oh, that was an incredible interview. Immediately when Ernie announced
- 34:22Speaker 4: his retirement, I thought of Dan, of course.
- 34:24Speaker 5: Yeah, and getting him on the show day after, you
- 34:26Speaker 5: think he may not do it. Ernie is not a
- 34:28Speaker 5: me first, point at me guy. And for him to
- 34:31Speaker 5: be on the show was fantastic. If you didn't see it,
- 34:33Speaker 5: please go back and listen to that one because it
- 34:35Speaker 5: gets more serious at the end and there's a lot
- 34:36Speaker 5: more to it. But I will say when I look
- 34:38Speaker 5: at that show. That show was so good and it
- 34:40Speaker 5: is so good. There were times I wouldn't watch the
- 34:43Speaker 5: basketball game.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:44Speaker 5: But I just watched Ernie and Chuck and the whole
- 34:47Speaker 5: crew chop it up. And the other thing about that
- 34:49Speaker 5: show is their production staff has free reign to poke
- 34:52Speaker 5: the bear and poke those guys. And Ernie Johnson, though,
- 34:55Speaker 5: to me, you know what he reminds me of? Remember
- 34:58Speaker 5: Phil Hartman, the great comedian on SNL?
- 35:00Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. The glue guy.
- 35:01Speaker 6: The glue guy. The straight guy.
- 35:03Speaker 5: The guy who could do anything and who never gets
- 35:05Speaker 5: enough credit because Barkley's a star.
- 35:07Speaker 4: You know, I think Ernie Johnson in the last few
- 35:08Speaker 4: years has gotten more credit. I think Dan's played a
- 35:11Speaker 4: big role in that because I think Dan was early on,
- 35:13Speaker 4: for me at least, he's like, you do not understand
- 35:16Speaker 4: the role Ernie Johnson plays in that. Then Charles Barkley,
- 35:18Speaker 4: and you saw it last night on Inside the NBA.
- 35:20Speaker 4: has credited Ernie for so.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Much of the success. And I remember we met him
- 35:25Speaker 2: down at the San Antonio Final Four.
- 35:26Speaker 3: That's right.
- 35:27Speaker 4: Or Houston or San Antonio. And he is such a gentleman.
- 35:30Speaker 4: I hate to use that word, but it's so.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Obvious with him.
- 35:32Speaker 5: Well, yeah, it's everything you expect. They always say, don't
- 35:34Speaker 5: meet your heroes and things like that. Ernie Johnson walks
- 35:36Speaker 5: up and he introduces himself. I'm like, I'm Paul Peps.
- 35:38Speaker 6: He goes, I watch the show. It's good to meet you.
- 35:40Speaker 5: And you're like, oh my gosh, Ernie Johnson's better than
- 35:42Speaker 5: you expect. The other thing is, You have a show
- 35:45Speaker 5: like that with Shaq, a billionaire athlete, world famous.
- 35:48Speaker 6: Charles Barkley, who will say anything, anytime.
- 35:50Speaker 5: You need a ringleader who is not afraid to take
- 35:53Speaker 5: charge and not afraid to defer to a talent like Barkley.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 35:57Speaker 4: And he's not afraid to go silly. That's the thing, too.
- 36:00Speaker 4: He will let them say the most idiotic things. And
- 36:02Speaker 4: just come right back to the serious thing. You know,
- 36:05Speaker 4: one thing, too, I want to give credit to Dan,
- 36:07Speaker 4: I guess is the way you would put it. That
- 36:09Speaker 4: became a conversation, like the best kind of interview where
- 36:12Speaker 4: it's just two guys talking. I'm like, Ernie, you know
- 36:14Speaker 4: you're on TV now. You're not just talking to Dan.
- 36:16Speaker 4: You're talking to all of us.
- 36:17Speaker 5: Yeah, and it got really serious at the end. Ernie
- 36:18Speaker 5: talked about different things in his past and things have happened.
- 36:21Speaker 5: And that is the luxury of the Dan Patrick show
- 36:23Speaker 5: is that Dan has room to breathe, room to talk.
- 36:25Speaker 6: And we didn't have to go to break. He has
- 36:27Speaker 6: room to get to deeper issues.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and also he has a history with Ernie.
- 36:31Speaker 4: And they're parallels, too, really to Mount Rushmore broadcasters.
- 36:35Speaker 6: All right, here we go.
- 36:36Speaker 5: Now, the other thing going on here, college football, huge
- 36:38Speaker 5: game this weekend. USC hosting Ohio State out there at
- 36:42Speaker 5: the Coliseum. Lincoln Riley's been under fire most of this season.
- 36:45Speaker 5: It's weird because they're a 6-2 team, but they don't
- 36:48Speaker 5: feel 6-2.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Right? Yes. Yeah, no, you're right.
- 36:51Speaker 4: Now you say that they're 6-2, but 6-2, unless you're
- 36:54Speaker 4: beating really good teams, will not get you into the playoffs.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Right.
- 36:56Speaker 5: There's different kinds of 6-2, and it doesn't feel that good.
- 36:59Speaker 5: So Lincoln Riley addressed rumors, speculation, and all those different
- 37:02Speaker 5: things yesterday.
- 37:03Speaker 6: Out at USC.
- 37:04Speaker 9: A lot of times, there's not many people in college
- 37:07Speaker 9: football history that gave up what I gave up to
- 37:09Speaker 9: come here. Listen, if I didn't want to be at
- 37:10Speaker 9: this place, I wouldn't have come here in the first place.
- 37:13Speaker 9: If I didn't want to be at this place, I've
- 37:15Speaker 9: had plenty of opportunities to leave. This is where I
- 37:17Speaker 9: want to be. This is the right place for me.
- 37:20Speaker 9: I'm the right person to be here. And that's just,
- 37:22Speaker 9: that's as honest and transparent as I can be.
- 37:24Speaker 3: With you guys.
- 37:25Speaker 2: When Lincoln Riley left Oklahoma.
- 37:28Speaker 6: By choice.
- 37:29Speaker 4: For USC, everyone said, jokingly, oh, he doesn't want to
- 37:33Speaker 4: be in the SEC because Oklahoma transitioned from the Big
- 37:35Speaker 4: 12 to SEC. So he goes out to the Pac-12,
- 37:38Speaker 4: which is a very offense-friendly conference. And then what happens?
- 37:41Speaker 4: They go to the Big 10. So people are like, ah, Lincoln,
- 37:44Speaker 4: your plan backfired. Now, I don't know if that's really
- 37:46Speaker 4: what happened, but that's the reality of the situation. Lincoln
- 37:48Speaker 4: Riley is not meant to coach in Pac-12. DP said it.
- 37:51Speaker 4: He belongs in the Big 12. He wants a wide-open offense.
- 37:55Speaker 4: He doesn't need weather. He doesn't need a consistent run game.
- 37:58Speaker 4: He needs to run the spread offense, and he cannot
- 38:01Speaker 4: do it the way he wants to at USC.
- 38:02Speaker 5: What do you think of Lincoln Riley's strategy there, reminding
- 38:05Speaker 5: people how in demand he was and that he gave
- 38:07Speaker 5: up Oklahoma football to go to USC? I don't know
- 38:10Speaker 5: if that's going to get people back on his side. Remember,
- 38:12Speaker 5: the only thing that gets people back on your side
- 38:14Speaker 5: is beating Ohio State.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh, yeah.
- 38:16Speaker 4: If he beats Ohio State, then maybe he can get
- 38:18Speaker 4: a better job and get out of there because it's
- 38:19Speaker 4: not working. And even if they do beat Ohio State,
- 38:21Speaker 4: it's still a long road to the playoff for USC.
- 38:24Speaker 4: Do you agree that Lincoln Riley... has to make the playoff.
- 38:28Speaker 4: I'm not saying to keep his job, but if he
- 38:30Speaker 4: doesn't make the playoff, it's going to be very bad
- 38:32Speaker 4: for him.
- 38:32Speaker 5: And I think it's going to be very tough because
- 38:33Speaker 5: you've got Ohio State, that's probably a loss. You have Maryland,
- 38:38Speaker 5: but you have Indiana next week away. And then you
- 38:41Speaker 5: finish the season against UCLA. UCLA's playing well, and that
- 38:45Speaker 5: is a perception game. You lose at the end of
- 38:47Speaker 5: the season probably to a full house against UCLA. That
- 38:50Speaker 5: seems like the death knell.
- 38:51Speaker 2: That's terrible.
- 38:52Speaker 4: I mean, UCLA, you could argue, is wildly overrated because
- 38:55Speaker 4: they play nobody. UCLA is kind of getting set up
- 38:58Speaker 4: to lose by 30.
- 38:59Speaker 6: But that makes it even worse.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:00Speaker 5: If you lose to a UCLA team with a backup quarterback,
- 39:04Speaker 5: that makes the situation even worse.
- 39:05Speaker 2: They will be favored against UCLA, I'm pretty sure.
- 39:08Speaker 6: Yes.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Talent-wise.
- 39:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think they'll be a three-and-a-half point
- 39:11Speaker 4: favored in L.A.
- 39:12Speaker 2: At least because UCLA, again, their schedule has been really terrible.
- 39:15Speaker 5: Let's go on the record right now. Next season, Lincoln
- 39:18Speaker 5: Riley is coaching... in the state of California or the
- 39:21Speaker 5: state of Texas?
- 39:22Speaker 2: Give me Texas.
- 39:23Speaker 6: I'm taking Texas as well. By the way, I was thinking.
- 39:25Speaker 4: About Texas Tech. McGuire still has time there because Lincoln
- 39:29Speaker 4: Riley went to Texas. Tech, feels like a Texas Tech coach,
- 39:32Speaker 4: but TCU, I think you said on the Patrick show,
- 39:34Speaker 4: might be the most likely.
- 39:35Speaker 5: Horned Frogs, they have some money. They're like three and three.
- 39:37Speaker 5: They're kind of spinning their wheels.
- 39:39Speaker 4: By the way, I mean, if things finish well for
- 39:42Speaker 4: USC and things don't finish well at the University of Texas.
- 39:46Speaker 5: No, he won't get those reigns. He can't get those
- 39:49Speaker 5: reigns with what he's done the past year. I don't
- 39:50Speaker 5: think Texas would be in play.
- 39:52Speaker 4: And they won't go from a play caller like Sark
- 39:54Speaker 4: to a play caller like Lincoln Riley.
- 39:55Speaker 2: They'd go opposite.
- 39:56Speaker 6: It's time for coming up in a little bit. Oh,
- 39:58Speaker 6: bonus coverage. You love it. You love it.
- 40:00Speaker 5: It's Superloftibs coming up next on Not So Fast and
- 40:04Speaker 5: Constructive Criticism.
- 40:05Speaker 6: Stick around. Not so fast. Back in a sec.
- 40:08Speaker 2: How about like a lower school? UTSA or one of
- 40:11Speaker 2: those schools?
- 40:12Speaker 6: Abilene Christians?
- 40:13Speaker 2: That would be great. There's a lot of colleges in Texas.
- 40:16Speaker 6: Sam Houston State?
- 40:17Speaker 2: Sam Houston State.
- 40:18Speaker 6: Samuel L.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Houston.
- 40:21Speaker 5: Check out the new NBC Sports Now lineup from 7 a.m.
- 40:24Speaker 6: To 7 p.m. Eastern.
- 40:25Speaker 5: Catch the full daily lineup of Sports Talk on NBC
- 40:28Speaker 5: Sports Now. The channel is available live on Peacock and
- 40:31Speaker 5: free on Roku, Samsung TV +, or whatever you stream.
- 40:34Speaker 5: Look at those guys all day, every day, chopping it
- 40:36Speaker 5: up for a while.
- 40:37Speaker 2: That's some quality there.
- 40:38Speaker 6: Some good hair, some average hair. We're not going to
- 40:40Speaker 6: name names. All right.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Time for Superloftibs.
- 40:47Speaker 6: Oh, Halloween edition? Yeah.
- 40:49Speaker 2: This is Superloftibs' best and worst of the NFL. This
- 40:53Speaker 2: is going to be scariest around the NFL. Don't be scared, Paul.
- 40:56Speaker 2: I won't. Okay. Let's start with the scariest open field hitter.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Want to guess who it is?
- 41:03Speaker 6: I got nothing.
- 41:05Speaker 2: It's his year. Malik Mustafa on the San Francisco 49ers.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Your favorite player.
- 41:08Speaker 6: I love that guy.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Yes.
- 41:11Speaker 4: He lines up guys from 10 yards away and somehow
- 41:14Speaker 4: doesn't get a flag. He is a throwback. Reminds me
- 41:18Speaker 4: of Cam Chancellor in Seattle. He is by far the
- 41:20Speaker 4: scariest hitter right now. And by the way, I think
- 41:23Speaker 4: the MVP of that defense, which has been excellent, that
- 41:26Speaker 4: did not end well.
- 41:27Speaker 6: And Mustafa, look at that hit. That was a fantastic hit.
- 41:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a game changer right there.
- 41:31Speaker 5: He kind of reminds me of that old Bob Sanders type.
- 41:34Speaker 5: You know, the other guy I put there, Devin Witherspoon,
- 41:36Speaker 5: the defensive back, the corner for Seattle.
- 41:38Speaker 6: Big hitter.
- 41:38Speaker 4: Okay, scariest guy to tackle on the other end. Want
- 41:43Speaker 4: to take a guess because this one, nobody wants a
- 41:45Speaker 4: piece of this dude.
- 41:46Speaker 6: Okay, is this one of my guys?
- 41:47Speaker 2: No.
- 41:48Speaker 5: Because I was going to go Kyle Menungai from the Bears.
- 41:50Speaker 5: He's a little down the depth track.
- 41:51Speaker 2: I'll give you a hint. Huge.
- 41:53Speaker 6: It's got to be Derrick Henry.
- 41:55Speaker 4: Darnell Washington on the Pittsburgh Steelers. When a DB gets
- 41:59Speaker 4: lined up against this guy, you can't help but laugh.
- 42:02Speaker 4: You need three guys to take Mount Washington and Pittsburgh down.
- 42:05Speaker 4: And I love that Aaron Rodgers is targeting him more.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh. It's like playing your dad in the backyard.
- 42:13Speaker 2: It is so ridiculous.
- 42:15Speaker 6: It looked like Jefferson in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
- 42:17Speaker 4: Now, I know the Steelers aren't the most entertaining team
- 42:19Speaker 4: because they have a lot of low-scoring games.
- 42:20Speaker 2: He might be the most entertaining player in the NFL. Okay.
- 42:23Speaker 4: Scariest situation in the NFL. Maybe from a fan perspective
- 42:28Speaker 4: or from an analysis standpoint.
- 42:30Speaker 6: Can it be a good scary or does it have
- 42:31Speaker 6: to be bad scary?
- 42:32Speaker 2: It could be either.
- 42:33Speaker 6: Okay, the New York Giants quarterback situation?
- 42:36Speaker 4: No, this is an actual down and distance situation. I'm
- 42:39Speaker 4: going to go scary situation.
- 42:41Speaker 2: It's fourth and two at your own 19-yard line, and
- 42:44Speaker 2: you're the Detroit Lions. Because you know what's about to happen.
- 42:47Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 42:47Speaker 7: You know that he is going for it. And you
- 42:50Speaker 7: know that he does not have the right play dialed up.
- 42:53Speaker 7: And you know that it could cost the Detroit Lions.
- 42:56Speaker 7: Of course, this could have been a game changer last
- 42:58Speaker 7: week against the Packers. Luckily, the Packers missed all their
- 43:00Speaker 7: kicks and the Lions won, but it's terrifying to me.
- 43:03Speaker 6: Can I take a 20 on this one?
- 43:04Speaker 5: I know some Lions fans, and I think the shine
- 43:07Speaker 5: is over the fourth and going for it this year.
- 43:09Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 43:10Speaker 5: I think they loved it year one. They liked it
- 43:12Speaker 5: year two. When the NFC title game, it's like, hey, man,
- 43:16Speaker 5: we get it. You're a tough guy. We know you're
- 43:17Speaker 5: a big guy, Dan Campbell. You don't have to be
- 43:19Speaker 5: this gutsy.
- 43:20Speaker 2: No, it seems like the shine is off exactly. We'll see.
- 43:23Speaker 2: It's got big game against Vikings. Okay, scariest phone call
- 43:26Speaker 2: you can get in the NFL. It is from one man.
- 43:30Speaker 6: John Lynch, the GM of the 49ers.
- 43:32Speaker 2: No, you're close. Howie Roseman, the GM of the Eagles.
- 43:36Speaker 2: He will rip you off so bad.
- 43:37Speaker 4: He got a second round pick for Cam Juergens, who
- 43:40Speaker 4: is a far inferior player to Quentin Nelson, who got
- 43:43Speaker 4: a third round pick, the former Colt. So if Howie calls,
- 43:47Speaker 4: because there might be a fire sale in Philly, just
- 43:48Speaker 4: hang up immediately.
- 43:50Speaker 2: He will fleece you.
- 43:51Speaker 6: Like caller ID, you see H. Roseman, you don't pick up?
- 43:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's kind of like the Atlanta Braves trying to
- 43:56Speaker 2: sell you a pitcher. Just don't take them.
- 43:57Speaker 6: Could I put also, is it John Schneider? Is he
- 43:59Speaker 6: still out there?
- 44:00Speaker 2: Yeah, in Seattle. Oh, yeah, you don't want any of that.
- 44:02Speaker 5: No, you don't take those calls because whatever trade you
- 44:05Speaker 5: do with them, they're winning that trade.
- 44:07Speaker 6: So you just don't take it.
- 44:08Speaker 2: For example, the New England Patriots took A.J.
- 44:10Speaker 3: Brown.
- 44:10Speaker 4: That is not working out. Do not take the call
- 44:12Speaker 4: from Harry Rosen. Okay, scariest practice field in the NFL.
- 44:16Speaker 4: I think there's only one practice field that anyone talks about.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Paul, would you like to guess?
- 44:19Speaker 6: I don't know this one.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Uh, it's called the electrical substation.
- 44:23Speaker 3: Oh.
- 44:23Speaker 2: It's clearly, and here is a photographic evidence.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Is that real?
- 44:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that's real. Oh, no, I'm sorry.
- 44:30Speaker 4: That's somebody superimposing the Tower of Sauron from Lord of
- 44:33Speaker 4: the Rings.
- 44:34Speaker 6: You guys are going to say, I never saw it
- 44:35Speaker 6: there before.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you have to look closer.
- 44:38Speaker 4: So, actually, the Niners are good, which is the only
- 44:41Speaker 4: reason we're not talking about the electrical substation.
- 44:43Speaker 2: I still got to know. That's the only scary practice field.
- 44:44Speaker 5: If I could have any video out there, it wouldn't
- 44:46Speaker 5: be as a Pruder film. It wouldn't be Babe Ruth pointing.
- 44:49Speaker 5: I want to be at the meeting the 49ers had
- 44:51Speaker 5: when they decided to build this practice facility right next
- 44:54Speaker 5: to a huge power station that scares people. Like, If
- 44:56Speaker 5: you and your wife went and looked at a house
- 44:58Speaker 5: and it had a power station behind it, you'd take
- 45:00Speaker 5: the minivan and get out of there.
- 45:02Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. No, definitely. Listen, injuries happen. Might be because
- 45:06Speaker 2: of that.
- 45:07Speaker 6: Great superlatives. Really good job by you. Special edition. All right,
- 45:10Speaker 6: let's get to it.
- 45:11Speaker 5: It's time for constructive criticism. Your feedback to the show.
- 45:14Speaker 5: We got a few good ones. And the theme is
- 45:16Speaker 5: Halloween and... a college football Sunday. Halloween is Saturday. Saturday,
- 45:22Speaker 5: we're looking for some advice. How do you balance watching football, kids, tailgates,
- 45:26Speaker 5: and all this stuff?
- 45:27Speaker 6: We want to hear your suggestions. So here are a few, Pearl.
- 45:30Speaker 6: Here we go.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Okay.
- 45:33Speaker 5: Football on your phone. There's the Manning brothers. You know,
- 45:37Speaker 5: football on your phone is great. There's different services out there.
- 45:39Speaker 5: YouTube TV, Fubo.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Yep. Peacock, for sure.
- 45:43Speaker 6: Peacock.
- 45:44Speaker 5: You can put Fubo on your phone, Peacock on your phone,
- 45:47Speaker 5: and you just do this thing while you're handing out candy,
- 45:49Speaker 5: and you can still watch all the games.
- 45:50Speaker 2: You might be watching USC Ohio State and trick-or-treating.
- 45:53Speaker 6: Not the biggest screen in the world, but it gets
- 45:55Speaker 6: the job done.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Yeah, no, listen. I'll have... During a weekend, I might
- 45:59Speaker 2: use four or five different screens.
- 46:00Speaker 6: Twizzlers in one hand.
- 46:01Speaker 2: And I'm still with the greatest ad ever. Eli and
- 46:04Speaker 2: Peyton rapping.
- 46:05Speaker 3: Amazing.
- 46:05Speaker 6: Football on your phone. Here we go.
- 46:07Speaker 2: Next one.
- 46:09Speaker 5: We are hosting Florida, Georgia, and we'll have a Halloween-themed food,
- 46:12Speaker 5: mummy calzone, guacamole pumpkin. Okay, so if you're going to
- 46:16Speaker 5: host a Halloween party, I'm fine with that to mix
- 46:19Speaker 5: in with football because then you control your TV situation.
- 46:22Speaker 6: What about kids? Kids all over the house during football?
- 46:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, listen, I do think the game has
- 46:28Speaker 4: to be awfully good. If you're under 30 and you're
- 46:30Speaker 4: not going to a Halloween party, I think you're doing
- 46:33Speaker 4: it wrong. That is the best night to go out, Paul.
- 46:35Speaker 4: We might not remember, but when we were single, oh,
- 46:38Speaker 4: my God.
- 46:38Speaker 5: What if you go to a house Halloween party and
- 46:41Speaker 5: they don't have the TV on? Do you say to
- 46:43Speaker 5: the host, hey, man, the Florida game's on, Georgia game's on.
- 46:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, are they bigger than you? Why don't
- 46:48Speaker 4: you just take the remote and turn it, Paul?
- 46:50Speaker 6: Very fair point. All right, last one. Here we go.
- 46:52Speaker 6: Constructive criticism.
- 46:53Speaker 5: We have a Fresno State blackout game and all the
- 46:55Speaker 5: trick-or-treating going down at the tailgates. They have a map
- 46:58Speaker 5: out there that shows the hot spots for the kids. Now,
- 47:00Speaker 5: is he saying we're going to the game and we're
- 47:03Speaker 5: going to trick-or-treat and tailgate simultaneously because this guy is
- 47:06Speaker 5: a hero?
- 47:07Speaker 2: I guess so.
- 47:07Speaker 4: Now, a blackout game means it's not on TV, or
- 47:10Speaker 4: is it like the Penn State whiteout?
- 47:11Speaker 6: I don't know, but either way.
- 47:12Speaker 5: Okay, so let's say you're tailgating, and there's little kids
- 47:15Speaker 5: walking around trick-or-treating. You give the kid a bratwurst, put
- 47:17Speaker 5: it in the bag.
- 47:18Speaker 2: You give the kid a rib.
- 47:19Speaker 5: Right, you give the kid a couple ribs. Hey, kid,
- 47:22Speaker 5: here's a bowl of chili right in your little container there.
- 47:25Speaker 2: That sounds amazing.
- 47:26Speaker 6: It does sound amazing.
- 47:27Speaker 5: All right, before we get done, tonight, Packers, Panthers, I
- 47:30Speaker 5: think the Packers are given three.
- 47:32Speaker 6: Straight up who you got tonight.
- 47:34Speaker 4: Actually, I'm picking the upset right here, Paul, and it
- 47:36Speaker 4: doesn't make any sense, but last year the Panthers got
- 47:39Speaker 4: blown out by the Bills midseason, came back, won in
- 47:43Speaker 4: Green Bay. I think they do something that makes no
- 47:46Speaker 4: sense and find a way to win this game.
- 47:47Speaker 5: I'll take the Packers to right the ship, and then
- 47:49Speaker 5: let's go to the feel-good now. This is a special
- 47:51Speaker 5: bonus coverage feel-good from the Dan Patrick Show. There's my
- 47:54Speaker 5: guy Marvin giving me a present.
- 47:56Speaker 6: Look at this. As you can see by my face,
- 47:59Speaker 6: I have no idea what's coming.
- 48:00Speaker 2: No clue.
- 48:02Speaker 6: Watch little Paulie Pabst. Look at me. It's like Christmas Day.
- 48:12Speaker 2: That is awesome.
- 48:13Speaker 5: This is an actual Georgetown jersey from the 80s, and
- 48:16Speaker 5: they didn't wear this color that often.
- 48:18Speaker 6: I got absolutely emotional.
- 48:19Speaker 2: One of your favorite players of all time.
- 48:21Speaker 6: Patrick Ewing.
- 48:22Speaker 5: Maybe he could sign this. I'm never wearing it because
- 48:24Speaker 5: it would desecrate that jersey.
- 48:25Speaker 2: Way to go, Marvin.
- 48:26Speaker 5: Tune in to the Dan Patch Show tomorrow to get
- 48:27Speaker 5: you ready for the football weekend. Enjoy the football tonight,
- 48:30Speaker 5: then come hang with us. Not so fast.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Right after.
- 48:32Speaker 6: Have a good night.
