- 0:07[SPEAKER_01]: Quick preview about what's going to be going on on the show today.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, we're going to talk about the movies that are coming out tomorrow, actually.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_01]: On Friday, we've got a preview or a review, I should say, the highest to lowest.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: And then, we're going to be talking about our favorite thrillers all on today's episode of She's your popcorn right here on the Rise Network.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: All right, hey everybody, welcome to our eighth episode.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, eight episodes already because of cheesy popcorn.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Annavar.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the co-host of Can I Call You Dad.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm Chris Miles.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm the host of New I'm Music.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: We're both, of course, can only be seen and or listen to right here on the rise.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: Network, episode eight.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: We, I feel like we've like filled up like a half heart thing here or something like that.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I suppose I could have said host of, can I call you dad?
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: I said co-host, and then you said host, and it made me feel like a little bit lesser, fun.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, why wasn't trying to?
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, someone's ego is a little bruised today.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: I was playing Pickable this morning, and I got hit.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_00]: My partner set the other guy up perfectly for him to smack me, right in the leg.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, so, yeah.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: You're okay, you feel a little pain?
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm okay, but I played the rest of the game on the protest.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, huh?
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: Still one, by the way.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's that's kind of like a pick it's like a whiffle ball shit.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: So whiffle ball, but it's hard it's a hard whiffle ball It's what you said about 80 miles an hour.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: He said if clock deserves that's also what she said
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, Chris and I last week, we talked about Denzel Washington's new movie, I used to lowest, and so we both got a chance to see.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't go together this time, so I missed that.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it was a view at home type thing, which we will do from time to time, because they're TV.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because there are movies that come out exclusively on streaming platforms.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's at the end or two, by the way.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: E-mits to Marcus, till September, might be just a weekend, might be gone this weekend.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: So then it did come out in the theatrical release the did before I think yes, but then Apple came out But so yeah, so if you have Apple TV you can obviously view it there or you can go say it on the big screen Unless of course you're one of those Boogie people and you got the theater in your own house and then on jealous of you so that's me
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Not me either.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, but yeah, high soloists.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: We watched it on Apple TV Spike Lee Returning yeah returning it has a long hiatus.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know if I can't even remember the movie off the top of my head It wasn't jungle fever, but it was something else after that and yeah It was a it beaves a bunch after that.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember what is very very very last movie was but You know Spike Lee's a good director.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's it's a good guy.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: I remember once I expand that's the only downside to him
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: I remember watching do the right thing and I think it was an English teacher.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: She was like now class there's going to be some swearing in this and I know so don't go back to tell your moms that they're swearing because well, you know, it's it is what it is So, but yeah, and then oh, and I do some nudity in that movie too, and she's like and there's a little bit of nudity, but you know, I mean, you're all like we were 16
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: And I went to Catholic school, so the most we got was a none without her habit on in the bells of St.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: Mary's.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I hope she doesn't make a habit out of that.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: She's not going to.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: Drum roll, please.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: So you go first.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: What do you grade it?
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: One to ten.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I was actually trying to figure out what Spike Lee's movie last movie was for this one, but there's a actually he's been doing quite a bit of stuff, so he's been around But just nothing I guess that I knew a lot of shorts a lot of videos Cup a TV mini series the N1NYC epic centers That was released in 2021.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: That was for episode.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: So he's been doing stuff, but just now actually didn't they really release a little bit was short
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: commercial with Mars black men and and Jordan again recently when Jordan came out with his lack of a shoe and they brought Mars black men back yeah I don't know how many people our old enough to remember Mars black men but those commercials were hilarious Nike seen it all they came out in 2022 maybe that's what it is but anyway so yeah so um Denzo Washington I'm a huge fan of his I have been for quite some time
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: I liked him in so many movies, training days the one that really hits me just because it came out right in the middle of all of that like colors came out and like all the other like crime slash gangster type flicks
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: and everything like that and it was just absolutely amazing.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: But that's not what we're talking about.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about of course, highest to lowest, which you can see on Apple, TV, Apple, TV plus I think is what it's called officially.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: But Denzel Washington, you know, he's some
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: He's playing a record executive, and basically it's a hip-hop kind of, I kind of made the comparison to like him being like the guy who ran death row records so to speak, it's like kind of the way that he came.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: But there were more, the artist that he featured, I think were a little bit more jazz and soul than they were rap.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: But interesting twist that wrapped it play a pretty big, portioned role in the movie.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: We won't give too much away, but basically what happens is Denzel Washington is trying to reclaim the fame of his enterprise, so I speak.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: Right in me, a little bit of empire, the TV show.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you caught that at all.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's a great, great team series, a lot at all.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: very similar.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: And then of course his empire is kind of crumbling and then he decides to make a deal and writing is about to make a deal, his son gets kidnapped, and then also his son's best friend.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then in a mix-up because of who was wearing what clothing particularly a headband,
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: the sun gets returned but the best friend is the one that gets captured and of course gets held up for ransom and blah, blah, blah.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: Now I'm not going to give to the rest of it away because it ends up being an artist who is trying to get his attention.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: But kind of an interesting thing, he ends up being the one to say.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: to go about figuring out who the potential kidnapper or actual kidnapper is.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: So all in all though, I mean, not what I expected from Spike Lee, I did not expect like a crime movie, which is basically what this was.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, I said, I do the right thing, jungle fever, jungle love, I think it was or something like that.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: And there's another Spike Lee movie that I'm trying to think of that I absolutely loved, and that was like, oh man, it was so great.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, so I was, I wasn't disappointed, I was just kind of like, oh, this is good to see him taking a different role, but there was some political stuff in the movie as well too, and that's pretty much what Spike Lee has been known for as making political statements and things of that nature.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: So as far as what I'm going to give it I'd give it like a seven and a half out of ten.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty good.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was really good It didn't there were a couple of moments where it got a little slow Couple very predictable situations And I don't know if it's because just the way the cops were for trade or whatever, but I just kind of said Okay, so this is what's going to happen.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: So I think at like the 30 minute mark I had the movie pretty much figured out
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: So, but, you know, I mean, what I watched it again, yeah, probably because it was entertaining.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd like to watch it with a couple people just to see what they thought of it.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: And speaking of that, what did you think?
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I, I wouldn't be that generous.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: I loved Denzel.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Malcolm X, one of his best movies, ever, the Malcolm X story was great.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, I thought the pace was way too slow.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think it was a little slow here and there.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: It was just slow, kind of everywhere for me.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: The soundtrack to me was really distracting.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: you go from hip to neck as to they started out with the song from Oklahoma.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: There's a bright, real, who's on the metal.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, okay, where's this going?
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: I also thought the storyline was really just jointed.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't really sure what we were watching.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: We were watching a guy trying to get his fame back.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: We were watching
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: a guy who's son got kidnapped, where we were, I mean, there was a lot of stuff going on here that didn't seem to connect.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: And that's unusual for Spike Lee movies because I've, the movies I've seen from Spike Lee, they're really connected.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, everything kind of just flows and this one didn't flow for me.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, the kid's happened itself that makes sense to me.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: It really didn't.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: Uh,
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, kind of the kind of that could not be in the sun because this because he's got the money, obviously.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: But keeping the sun's friend, it didn't make a lot of sense.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not real sure why they even put the scene in with the Lakers player of Fox.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: I can't think of his first name, but the coach Fox.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: That was a cameo.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's all that was.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: I know it was a cameo, but the whole Boston bashing thing, even on the subway.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: I thought, why?
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: Why?
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: Just because you're an ex-fan?
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's a New York thing.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's what it is.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't for New York.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't pertinent to the movie and it wasn't affecting the movie.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: It was pertinent to show what it means to be a New Yorker, though.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: And that's, that's why.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: I might give you that one by then work for me.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: And also, there was only one guy arrested.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: And if you remember in the scene where they get the money, they were like six.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: MoPets going around and they only arrested one guy that they'll make any sense either I think it was two mo pets.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: No, well, they might have been two mo pets, but it would more than one guy Yes, for sure the dialogue in the studio
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: between Denzel and a kidnapper, which when it was just a two of them, that just, it didn't really work for a try or not, because what dragged out and it was like, was he trying to get him off the hook once he got the money back and maybe help him or I didn't get what was going on there?
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: I wasn't really sure if Denzel knew what character to play to be honest with you.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: It seemed like he,
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: He wanted to play training day, but he wanted to play John Q. Almost mixing those characters up.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think that was the point.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was trying to play the two sides of the same individual, and show that.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: Show that he had.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: No, he didn't.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: And the change came from the subway.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't to me.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't believable at all.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, see, I thought that was pretty good.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I didn't think that was why I thought this might have been better cast with Jamie Foxx to be honest with you I think Jamie Foxx Okay, that role Better No knock on Denzel loved Denzel, but I think this was a Jamie Foxx.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: I could see role.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: I could see Jamie Foxx playing the role I'm curious why the subway scene didn't work for you because
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: To me, that was perfect.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like the way that everything worked out, the all of the fans that were on the the train, and then when the actual money got shifted, made total sense, and the only thing that was a stretch is being able to pull the emergency break on the train.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: Other than that, I was like, okay, yeah.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I can see how this works.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't work for me because I had a ready, I had a ready to convince myself that this was not a good role for Denzel.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: OK.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: OK.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: And so all the running, and obviously, there's stunt people jumping all this.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: Then they cut to him.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: And the little fight scene on the between the two cars, and all that, and how the bag fell perfectly in the right spot just accidentally, that didn't work.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: What I did think was, I thought the ending was good.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of liked the ending that he kind of, and I won't give it away, but I thought the ending was a good surprise.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: From the beginning of the movie to the ending, I thought the end was good, and to me the best part of the whole movie was that last song, I don't know who that girl was singing.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, that song's actually amazing.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: That was amazing.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glad they let the whole song play out, and it tied into what he was doing
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: And again, I don't want to give away, because there's like, there's a lot of things going on.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: You're a lot of different dynamics going on with his business, his family, his partners.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: There's like going on.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was too much going on, actually.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I'd give it, I'd probably only give it a six.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: I hate to say it.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: I hate to give any things a movie, anything under eight, because I think he's so terrific.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: One of my favorite movies is out of time.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: Well, he plays a small town sheriff who gets into some bad stuff and has to turn then that's and that's got a great ending too At the one my favorite move from it.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's called fallen fallen is good and that's is that the one where he sings the or the guys whistle in the rolling stone song in the angel Yes, so that's my favorite then some of you.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we did went to But yeah, I mean, you know, I mean good in the fish ships wife too.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean you can do comedy
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: Then Zelkin, do you ship a ship alive to remake?
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's at a great job.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: He is a versatile actor and he, you know, I mean, this didn't fit him though.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: I guess, I know you don't agree, but... No, it's not that... I don't... I thought that Jamie Fox knew him.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: I, and I totally agree with you.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: I totally agree.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: I could see Jamie Fox doing this a hell of a lot better, and it probably would be good.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like this was one of those to be honest, to be real about this.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like this was spikily and Denzel getting together and saying, hey, can we do a movie together?
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: We're old cronies now, but that's what I mean, that's what the movie felt like.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: And to me, I guess it was more of an example.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, thanks my fellow.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: Then another one just joined it.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think I was kind of put together on the run.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: And that's probably why it didn't.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: Probably I was not going to be in theaters for a long and probably why I went to write the Apple TV.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I think maybe it might have been a little better better if it would have just gone to Apple TV as opposed to being in the theater.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: It could have the movie could have been easily 20 to 30 minutes shorter.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there were definitely some, there's definitely some things in there that could have gotten cut out for sure.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: But he's also got it, but he's, but the thing about Spike Lee's, he's also got to give nods to his like people.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: And that was, that was part of like, I think that was some, you couldn't cut that out and then be Spike Lee.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: So that was like Rosie Perez is in the film.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: That, you know, go whatever his name is again.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm a huge fan of Edie Bonmetti.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, which was kind of cool to see him in a movie.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: And he's up there and I knew Edie Bonmetti when I was in my 20s.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: We were going to the,
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: The club on Broadway and by Broadway, Riviera, to see the everybody play when they were first getting started.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was nice.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: But again, to me, that was the just jointedness of the soundtrack.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: You got any pun-madi with Satsai, you got the guy from Oklahoma singing, you got this, like whimsical music playing during...
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: dramatic scenes.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know if you wanted the juxtapose that, but it didn't work for me.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was I think it was too too full.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to throw you off.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: And number two was to show you the way I saw it.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: It was to show you the catalog of artists that have been signed to the label.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think that was kind of the whole thing.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: He was trying to show, like, hey, this is what the label has done.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: And like I said, I think this was one of those scenarios, and I could be totally off here.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_01]: But I think this is one of those scenarios where Denzel and Spike got together.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's a great comment.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: I totally agree with that.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's what it was.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: What we saw here.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: My favorite thing, though, is there's two absolutely hilarious lines in this movie.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, Jeffrey White, playing Paul Christopher, who is pretty much like David King's right-hand man, David King, of course, played by Denzel Washington.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: Jeffrey Wright pulls out a I think it was a cell phone.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, he pulls out a pistol.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember which kind it was and Denzel goes what the hell is that he goes insurance He goes consider he said it was like the Jake Jake from state farmers what he called the gun whatever Well, the funny thing was is that there's a cop that's in the movie who is actually the well There's an actor who portrays a cop in the movie who actually portrays mayhem
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: from all state and then after he pulls out this he put then Jeffrey Wright's character or Paul Christopher pulls out the gun and Tenso goes and what's that he goes mayhem?
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: I bust it out Because that's that that's awesome because it was a nod obviously to the actors who was in the movie and the mayhem thing and all that kind of stuff Let's show that you made an insurance show, which was kind of funny.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe it was the dad joke and me or whatever But Rod Strickland and Rick Fox of course making some cameos and movie in
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: what you would call this kind of like a worthless scene, but you know, it didn't add anything to it.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: No, it didn't, but it's Spike Lee giving a nod to his boy.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: And he has to do that for a while.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of like an Adam Sandler.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so take a look at the movie if you want to, if you don't want to, you know, if you can take our opinions and, you know, put them wherever you want to.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: Or use them as a guide to whether or not you decide to watch the movie.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_01]: Need nonetheless, though, some great movies coming out this weekend.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: First one on the list is The Long Walk, which is actually a Stephen King.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a Stephen King short story.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: That has been adapted to the screen.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: It's about a bunch of boys who get together, but roughly 10 team boys who get together.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: They have to maintain a walking speed above four miles per hour, and if they receive three warnings in an hour, their shot dead.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: So interesting concept.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if I really want to spend the money to go see it in the movie theaters, although I'm a huge Stephen King fan.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: The last couple of Stephen King projects have just made me go.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think it's time to put the last nail in my closet.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: Did you do the Hunger Games?
- 17:38[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even care for the Hunger Games.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't know inclination to watch those.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: He was not, he was not part of the Hunger Games.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: I know he wasn't, but I'm saying that it's the kind of the same thing.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: You know, yeah, this whole arena, you know, arena asks a style of gaming.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: So to speak is a thing.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: I like the running man, which is a whole different concept with a kind of a cool, futuristic,
- 18:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know how futuristic the remakes gonna be.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see that that has been like one of the movies that has been in the previews section before The actual main section for like the last three or four movies.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think we saw it together So then also coming out this week long much along awaited SQL spinal tap to the end Continuous of course to call.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: I got a sequel to the legendary mockumentary
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, that's probably gonna game its own cast or own following, so to speak, could be a cult classic, just like Final Tap 2 is, but if we know anything about sequels, they tend to not be as great as the first one.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_01]: So, also coming out this week, Code 3, it's a story about a burnt out paramedic who takes one final 24-hour shift.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: To train his replacement only to find the right or the night spiraling into chaos and the funny thing is I used to be a paramedic Yeah, and when I got into two medics right yeah right and when I when I got into Right when I got into training so I was one of the medics so I guess that would have been a Uno medic one of them at it.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, so anyway, the thing that my EMT teacher said he goes, yeah, basically being a paramedic is like one hour of sheer term followed by 23 hours of sheer boredom.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: So, that's that.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: A movie that did kind of look interesting to the both of us, the man in the basement.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's a psychological thriller.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_01]: with William Default, with William Default.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm interested in it.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: Not interested enough to like William's been in some weird movies and the concept of this movie is really weird.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_01]: It literally is about a guy who runs a basement.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: So and then like the weirdness that happens in there.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm intrigued enough to see it but I'm also like yeah that's one of those I'll wait till it comes out on video or
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: or whatever.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_01]: So the pick that we've got for this week that we're going to review and probably something that a lot of females are going to go see or or or fanples or fans of British TV or couples for sure.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah exactly.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: Doubt and Abby the grand finale.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: Now what I had did are done.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_00]: No one's going to call downtown Abby.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's because first of all it's not spelled
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: D-O-W-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N-T-O-N
- 20:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's pronounced down time.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's down down down down down down down down down.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like Boublé.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's really bubble, but right.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: But he's actually a really good singer.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, so we're going to review Doubt and Apping next week.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: The grand finale.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: I decided to try to watch
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: all of the episodes.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: I did not succeed.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think we started this back in August and we didn't succeed because Dexter came out and a bunch of others TV came out so we did not get as far as I would like to.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: However, we did get into, I think, episode five of season two and from doing a little bit of my own homework and from watching the previews, I was able to piece together some bits and pieces of what happens in the next couple of series, so to speak, or seasons.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like I'm ready.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm correct here, you haven't seen a single episode.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen bits and pieces.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: A little bit here, a little bit there, so I will take it upon myself between now and next Tuesday.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: When's it come out, Friday?
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: It comes out Friday.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so between now and probably next Tuesday, I will make a point of watching a couple more.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: But I think my guess is, and I don't know this for sure, but my guess is that the finale is going to have some recaps at the beginning.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know, probably because there's probably going to be people maybe we'll see.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I wouldn't be able to explain why the W's missing.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe I have never seen an actual I've not seen because there's I think this is the third movie now for doubtnabby.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, that was a movie movie.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: There was I know there was I know there's at least one.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_01]: I thought there was two and I think this is like the third Moons of the finale.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: So right however, there's rumors going around that They've already signed contracts and there's gonna be a couple more seasons after this movie.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: So
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: Who not?
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: So finale after the finale.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the final finale.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that's true either way But anyway, it's kind of like the Rocky movies.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: Just when you think they're done Rocky eight.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then they need to be the fight for a meta-muscle or yeah, and then you go and then you go to Creed because you want to start the Apollo Creed story Which makes no sense of me whatsoever, but anyway, he fights again in nursing home over bacon
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, you're a threat.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: I had the sausage.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, uh, hey you and you seem to nurse I think I got to change my bed pee
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: uh... coming soon to where we're going to let's get back to back and track here since our boss walked in the room here uh... thrillers let's talk about thrillers favorite thrillers not to be confused with Michael Jackson not to be confused make it nice to hear album or song or song of the same name like we do on every episode we take a couple movies in a certain genre and we kind of make it one and two here's number one and number two exactly
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: So I think, you know, you went first last week.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: I do remember that because Pirates of the Caribbean is number two.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: So my number two is a recent flick.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: I did not know of this particular gentleman before the film.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think I saw a preview or something before I went to go see it.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: And then I was actually kind of blown away by it.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: I had never seen a killer
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: kill the way that he does with the type of machine that he killed with.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: And it intrigued me.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: So my runner up for best throw of all time is no country for old man.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: Very interesting way to turn around, huh?
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: To go about and yeah.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: To go about killing people.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's not derived from our known that it's just crazy good in that.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and that was I think it was like this first You'll pick movie.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, he did get a nice before, but I think it was like first real bad thing You'll just see with the little kids when he's in the accident and you've got the little kids like oh my god
- 24:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like I mean ease fabulous.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: I've never seen anybody play a serial killer that well Ever one of the best bond villains too in my opinion.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: He was pretty good.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: He was excellent Come on.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's pretty good.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's pretty good.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: There's a couple other villains I'm more old school bond.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: There's a couple other bond villains that I think are a little bit I'm saying he was one of the one.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but one.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, not the for sure All right, so my number two pick I'm gonna go way back here to black and white movie called desperate hours
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: with Humphrey Bogart and I'm blanking on the other actors name but you can look it up down you'll get it real quick.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a master fold thriller that has to do with three escape convicts.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: Wasn't that your pick for drama too?
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: Was it?
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: What's it?
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's a thriller too.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_00]: So okay.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: No big deal.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: You can go both ways.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if Humphrey Bogart did, but the movie could.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: So that's for hours for you to run up for us.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, they're all there, okay.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I can't think of the actors, he's a really, really good actor, and they played it off really well together.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: And it's one of those movies that the ending will surprise you too, so that's my number two, two.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: So your number one would be,
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I think, okay, so I think last the the other desperate hours you talked about was that movie with Mickey Roark.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I didn't like that one.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: I would never pick that as it's okay.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: So then you did pick you were your desperate hours probably was the other movie you were talking about.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: So there we go.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: So my number one thriller of all time and more because it's not it's it's more of like a crime thriller than anything else.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: But to me I am a huge Kevin Spacey fan.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's an incredible actor loved him in seven.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of what made me kind of jump on his bandwagon.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: So to speak
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody gets away from Kaiser so say the usual suspects is my number one pick for best thriller good movie good movie I can't argue with you on that one not at all good movie Good movie with some great lines.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah great And if you've never seen it before it's really hard to guess what happens and I just to me It's one of the greatest of all time
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: So that was Frederick March, by the way.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: Frederick March, OK.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: And it was a very young, for those of you who are in our age category, so the gig young, who went on to do a lot of really terrific movies, too.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_00]: But this was one of his early movies when he was pretty young.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: And quite handsome, by the way.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: So my number one thriller is seven, really.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, you got Morgan Freeman, yeah.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_00]: You got Brad Pitt, well, I'm not a big fan of, but he was really good in this.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: No, he was cool.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: And you got probably the most unsuspecting ending and any movie.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: And you got, it was a bad guy now, I can't think of his name.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_00]: Kevin Spacey.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: Kevin Spacey.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're Catholic, you know, you're talking about the seven deadly sins, so yeah, except to be back to my days with the nuns, except for the absolutely unbelievable scene at the end of the movie where his wife's head is in the books.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: Tell them that.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: People have seen this movie already.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's all maybe not.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: People may not show people.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, put your headphones on kids because it's a spoiler alert time.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: Chris just gave it away.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: The worst ending to the worst.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: What's in the box?
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my god.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: It is so funny.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_01]: He was even dating her at the same time like in real life.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: He was dating uh, what's her name?
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: Guendeth Paul is just the same time.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_01]: And just his portrayal like what's in the book?
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: It was awesome.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: It was terrible.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: Watch it watch just that scene on repeat and see how bad it is and trust me I liked Brad Pitt before I liked him.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: There was I just thought of another Western movie that I actually did watch He was in one, okay.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember the name of it.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: Of course Something golden or long something I'll look it up
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: But that was kind of like it's not really like it's not it's in a front tier movie Okay, so it's probably not a wedges or the far ledges of the fall.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there you go for that See but I big names not much of a movie, but but but I liked him in that movie Thought he was believable.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he was believable in thumb on the ways and the little bit Rollin was believable seven.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, can he he was believable up until the point of the box after that point.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was like dude you
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: friggin so we really disagree and that we will because to me that I've watched it several times and then I get to that ending I'm still it's terrible It is the most it that boxing kills the movie for me.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's so bad the acting is so bad It's so unbelievable.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's not even funny
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't care.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm, I'm, it's your opinion.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: But like, he doesn't think you're wrong.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: He thought everyone has a right to be wrong opinions or like, you know what, everyone has them.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, car keys.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, he's in there.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody's got one.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: And the famous words of B-vis, it would be like, BOO!
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, so there we go as the first time we've we've disagreed disagree.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: We've we've come close We've all been able to This one I don't know I can't I can't agree with you.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's okay.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: You have a right to not disagree with me Have a right to be wrong to just like you said.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm wrong so there we go I did say it's a difference of opinion.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's all I just said you went right because there's a difference the same thing Just worried at different 45 years of marriage of Tommy then
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly, you don't have to be wrong.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: You can just be not right.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, there you go.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah That's how you get the 45 years I'm not wrong honey.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: I've tried to write right didn't work.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: So there we go.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, so that's the episode.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: Hope you enjoyed it.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: Cheesy popcorn.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Chris Miles.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, check out my podcast, actually.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: Here on the Rise Network, it's called New I'm Music Girl, come new episodes come out every Friday.

- 30:32[SPEAKER_00]: September 17th will be our final episode for season two, which is our pickleball episode, which is highly anticipated.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: With my pickleball group, I think they're going to have a watch party.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, nice.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: I believe they're having a watch party.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_00]: Over 500 people are going to show up to watch it.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_00]: at a very posh bar in downtown Manhattan.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_00]: We're all going to let you know you are watching.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be quite the event.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's $1,000 a ticket, if anybody wants to send me the money.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_00]: Personally, I'm accepting the checks.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_00]: Just as well.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_01]: There's a Manhattan Illinois.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's what he's talking about.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: And we catch that one on September 17 is going to be a fun show.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: And then I think we'll be back with season three coming up at some point.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_00]: And hopefully we'll keep cheesy popcorn going in the meantime.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: Well, here's the, I don't want to, you should, you forgot to do the disclaimer about the pickleball episode.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_00]: No pickles were harmed in the phone.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_00]: No pickles were harmed in the phone.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_00]: So there you go.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna pickle handler there.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, wow.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: Just in case.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, we went there already.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_00]: Name was Bruce.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, wow.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: We've even named him too.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, and on that note, make sure you save us some popcorn.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_00]: and save us a seed in the aisle.
