- 1:45second segment of the show, and following that State Democratic Party chair and Delegate
- 1:51Mike Pushkin. So here's what I'm thinking, all right, Senator, what
- 1:55are you laughing at? I'm loving watching Sandy calls here. Gonna talk to
- 2:00her a little bit later on. So Senator Tares in the green room right
- 2:02now. Delegate and Chairman Pushkin is going to come in here, and I'm
- 2:07gonna try my best to get them both on the air at the same time.
- 2:10That be wonderful. I think if they can do that, they'll send
- 2:13me over to Israel. You know, they try to get that's the thing.
- 2:15If I can get them both, I don't know. I don't I
- 2:16don't want to cause any problems, but we're going to try to get them
- 2:21on the air. Also, I got to get this in here. The
- 2:23seventeenth Annual Trigger Beat over Go Ballpark tomorrow night, a Ti Judy Motors powering
- 2:29that as they always do, two sessions, one at six the other at
- 2:31seven thirty. Just talking to Leah out front, there are approximately eight tickets
- 2:38left, so if you're listening to me right now, you need to come
- 2:42to eleven eleven Virginia Street East and Charleston and get those tickets because there are
- 2:46eight, literally eight, and it's a free event. Parents don't need tickets,
- 2:50but the kids do have to have tickets to get in. That's just
- 2:52you know. So we have enough candy to roll around, you know,
- 2:54make sure everybody gets something. But by ten thirty eleven o'clock, all the
- 3:00tickets are going to be gone. So we're expecting some upwards of three thousand
- 3:04kids at Go Martin Ballpark tomorrow night for trick or Beat the seventeenth annual event.
- 3:08But again as of airtime about a couple minutes four nine o'clock this twenty
- 3:15there were a grand total of eight tickets left. So you better get those
- 3:20tickets. You better go see Lee out front in about the next thirty minutes
- 3:23or so, because you wait till ten o'clock, they're going to be gone.
- 3:25Parents don't need tickets, but the kids do. We's got to have
- 3:28a headcount there. So there are about eight tickets left for a trick or
- 3:31beat, So get those tickets, all right, that haven't been said.
- 3:34Our good friend Sandy Call is here from brid Road Bestro and she comes in
- 3:37this morning bearing gifts and the food's not prepared. This morning's inad a box.
- 3:42It's your fresh, it's your own soup mix. Talk about that.
- 3:45Yeah, yeah, it's our own suit mix. We came out with it
- 3:46about four years the drudbstro I didn't mention that by them. Go ahead,
- 3:51yeah, and it beat your suit mix. It's right there in your hands
- 3:53there and hold it up right here to the micro one hundreds so everybody can
- 3:57see. Yeah, there's hundreds recipes. But you know, mainly we uh,
- 4:02we serve this in our restaurant every day. We sell it at Kroger
- 4:06All in West Virginia Drug and Porium the Tamarack. But you can make potato
- 4:11soup, roasted red pepper soup. You can make I'm taking selfies with with
- 4:15the I love it. But yeah, it's a great soup mix. I
- 4:18have girlfriends out there though that make chicken and dumplings with it. Though I
- 4:23make it with the roast. It's a great root. So it's yeah,
- 4:26it's gonna say it's not a flavored soup per se. It's not like you're
- 4:29I mean, you just whatever flavor you want it to be. Absolutely absolutely.
- 4:32I got all the spices and the mixes for you. You just throw
- 4:35in your your chopped up potatoes or if you want to make a tomato soup
- 4:39or what have you. But it's a great pre mix. What's your favorite
- 4:42soup to make with it? What's your favorite one? If you had to
- 4:44pick one or two, I would say definitely broccoli cheddar cheese okay, and
- 4:48then the loaded potato Okay, that's your favorite. That's the same. That's
- 4:53that's the same. Well, what do you hear from other people? What
- 4:55are some of the other ones you mentioned a couple of them. They love
- 4:58the roasted red pepper bisc and the lobster bisk. Okay, it's pretty popular
- 5:01and it's really really cheap to buy. You know, you can get it
- 5:05for under five bucks and feed a family of twelve to fourteen, especially if
- 5:10you got a little football team or a baseball team you need to feed.
- 5:12Yeah, and it's super weather. Well it's not right now because it's going
- 5:15to be eighty degrees or but next week. I was looking at the long
- 5:18range forecast. I think it's like Wednesday next week the high is going to
- 5:20be like forty five. Oh yeah, so this is souper weather. We
- 5:25get Halloween behind this, eBrace starts thinking about Thanksgiving in the winter. It's
- 5:28soup weather. It's time. And speaking of Thanksgiving, we're doing Thanksgiving dinner
- 5:31pickups again this year. Okay, so we're releasing that menu this week and
- 5:35order a turkey or a ham, all the fixings on the side. We'll
- 5:39have it all prepared for you and you just pick it up the day before
- 5:41Thanksgiving. We can serve it cold or warm, however way you want it.
- 5:45That we'll make your life on next month. To talk about that,
- 5:46too. But let me ask you this about the Thanksgiving though. If somebody
- 5:49wants to order Thanksgiving dinner from you guys, what would be the ballpark deadline
- 5:56for that? When do you need to know by? Because you can't call
- 5:59up nine o'clock to night for Thanksgiving, say I wanted dinner, so well
- 6:01you can't, so give me just and we won't hold you to this,
- 6:04but a good time frame that would be the deadline for them. I'm going
- 6:08to push it to the Saturday before thanks Geting, Saturday before Thanksgiving. How
- 6:12many dinners have you done in the past approximately, Well, we did one
- 6:15hundred, close to one hundred last year, okay, and the dinners consist
- 6:18of well, you kind of have it however you want, right, Yes,
- 6:21indeed you can do. If I call you, I say, Sandy,
- 6:25I want the full the full dinner. Yeah. Well, you can
- 6:28do small or large when we pretend when we talk about small and large,
- 6:30you can do four to six folks or eight to ten, eight to twelve,
- 6:35So that's your small and your large orders. You can do a large
- 6:39turkey dinner, ham dinner, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry relish.
- 6:43We're going to do a new corn bread pudding. This year it's a sweet
- 6:46corn bread pudding. We got some really nice things coming out, So Chef
- 6:50Joshua should have that out to the masses by Friday. And to get all
- 6:54this informations available on your social media, your website, you get it all
- 6:57out there for people to say, sardbistro dot com all right, indeed,
- 7:00Sandy call for Bridge Road Bistros here all right. So I want to talk
- 7:02about the private rooms that you have, yes your place for parties and that
- 7:06they get together. Talk about those. This is a great topic because a
- 7:10lot of folks don't know about our two rooms. We have two rooms.
- 7:13One is the Walnut Room. It seats up to about fifty but it's very
- 7:15popular with the pharmaceutical companies as well with the you know under ten number.
- 7:21But we have the LS room as well that seats up to twenty. Both
- 7:26of them have av if we have drop down screens, body of visuals so
- 7:29you can do dower points or whatever all the things. Yes, so you
- 7:32can even do a photo montage if you want to do a baby shower,
- 7:36about bridle shower, a reunion, any kind of nuptials. But those are
- 7:41great spaces also for your holiday parties coming up. You know you want a
- 7:45neutral place to say, here in central West Virginia, basically you're near all
- 7:49the hotels, and Bridgeroad Bistro offers two great rooms for your either luncheon or
- 7:55dinner parties for the holiday. Now. I would imagine kind of like with
- 7:58the dinner Sandy, that you could go full on. Have you prepare everything
- 8:01or do you allow people? Cause some people, some establishments like that will
- 8:05let people bring in outside food and some don't. And I understand certainly if
- 8:09they don't, what is your policy on that. I definitely definitely cater to
- 8:13those rooms. I provide all of the things to the room. Yes,
- 8:18you know, if they want to bring in a dessert, let's say a
- 8:20birthday cake or a wedding cake or something in that nature, bring that in
- 8:24as long as they have enough to share with you and the folks, right
- 8:28of course, and then bring you down a piece of exit. There's a
- 8:30three piece minimum. You know, you don't have to bring a cake in
- 8:33the building. You should put that sign up. All wedding cakes, all
- 8:35birthday cakes, there must be at least three to four pieces set aside,
- 8:39you know, for the host that's what you're asking about that, and again
- 8:43information about that's available on your website social media Facebook. How busy do you
- 8:46guys get as we head toward the holiday season, Actually, pretty busy.
- 8:52We'll get to the point where will how they lunch a mid afternoon in an
- 8:56evening party if need to be. You know, we have a lot of
- 9:01professionals that come in they want a nice lunch, and we have do a
- 9:05lot of off premise caterings as well. We'll come to your your firm,
- 9:09your business, will cater to your folks for lunch. We do box lunches
- 9:13as well, but we do so if somebody want to do, like,
- 9:16let's say, a lunch and learn and one of those, because that's kind
- 9:18of a popular thing to do right now. They just want to have people
- 9:20together and they want to have, like you said, a box lunch that
- 9:22you can prepare, you can have it to have it right there with with
- 9:26with audio visual available too if they need to do a powerpointer. Indeed,
- 9:31indeed, yes we do it all. We'll come to you, you can
- 9:33come to us. But yeah, it keeps us pretty busy during the holidays.
- 9:37Str I can imagine, I can imagine Sandy. It's always a pleasure
- 9:41to have you on the show. Gosh, thanks for having so anytime.
- 9:43What are you making up there? Just as far as the regular menu,
- 9:48if I go up there for dinner tonight, I mean, I know you've
- 9:50got a full menu, but anything new on the menu up there, anything
- 9:54that you're excited about right now. Chef Joshua is in transition right now from
- 9:58his to his autumn menu, so he's a lot of good things in store
- 10:01for us. He's going to do a nice smoked mac and cheese and we're
- 10:05going to be got that, Ryan, Yeah, smoke mac and cheese.
- 10:09Yes. And speaking of that, we're joining the mac and cheese contest that's
- 10:13coming up on November the fourth for the children's learning. Is that the one
- 10:16that I'm a judge for. Yes, because they reached out to me about
- 10:18being a judge on that. Yeah, please be a judge because we were
- 10:22knock your socks off mac and cheese and that's over it Capital Mark. Yeah.
- 10:26Somebody reached out to me by saying they said, can you come over
- 10:28be a judge for a mac and cheese contest? So I've been I've been
- 10:31ushered in, you know, for that you're a great guy for that.
- 10:35Well, thank you and all the things I liked it. I started eating
- 10:37sandy when I was when I was real young, and I just never got
- 10:41out of the habit. I get it, I get it. Well,
- 10:43you know we're going to help continue that tradition for you. Up and let
- 10:46me serve you suffer. Okay. Yeah, I actually got a text a
- 10:48minute ago from a good friend of mine who's listening in another part of the
- 10:50state right now. The Miracle of radio. We're on apps now and love
- 10:54it. And I'm going to give a big shout out to my buddy Tommy,
- 10:56who is listening down in southern West Virginia right now, who's probably the
- 11:00best non trained cook I've ever met in my entire life. Yeah, tell
- 11:05me, come on, let's do some cooking at the b STRO. Buddy
- 11:09does a lot of smoking, you know that kind of stuff. I say,
- 11:11does a lot of smoking. That didn't sound right, did it?
- 11:15Smoking foods? He does? He smoking smokes foods. Okay, Tommy,
- 11:20you come up to the Bridge Road b Strow and we'll show you how to
- 11:22smoke some things in our smoker as well. All right, Sandy, call
- 11:24for the bridge road b Strow website and social media. Go thank you.
- 11:28We've got Facebook, TikTok Instagram, a Google TikTok Oh, yes, we
- 11:33love TikTok Okay. I gotta get me one of them techtok You need to

- 15:18Senator Eric Tarr, Finance Chair Eric Tar, good morning, thank you
- 15:22for being on the show. Good morning, thanks for having me on day.
- 15:24This has been a wild day in the world of radio. Just had
- 15:26Sandy Call on for Bridge Road Bistro up in our studio of our new station,
- 15:31New West Station, the Mountain ninety eight seven. Steve Animal was getting
- 15:35massages on the air this morning. You're the folks, say station, folks
- 15:39from Utopia. I was up there too. Was all I got to do
- 15:41is take pictures. But so yeah, it's it's it's you never know what
- 15:46you're going to encounter when you come into eleven eleven and I have a giant
- 15:50box courtesy of Sandy Call of Bistro soup mix over here. She didn't mix
- 15:56it up for she got to make your own. But if you'd like to
- 15:58take some soup make it's a good stuff. We'll hook you out. It's
- 16:00definitely be good stuff. I saw her back in the green room waiting come
- 16:03in. I thought maybe we had some breakfast there. See I brought soup's
- 16:07just as good. This is good. This is good. It's it's good
- 16:08stuff. And after you, I've got the state Democratic Party chair, Mike
- 16:12Pushkin coming in. Well say hi to Mike for well, why don't you
- 16:15say hi to be? I haven't seen him it, I'll say that.
- 16:18He'll roll in here about two minutes four air time. I want to someone
- 16:21you two to say hello to each other. I'm happy to do that,
- 16:23all right. I know that Mike is listening right now. So Mike want
- 16:26to at least a you know, just at least a little high fiber.
- 16:32You know, in western southern West Virginia, we always see how's your mom
- 16:34and m that's right, that's your momin m. That's what you boys.
- 16:37So we'll be okay, all right. So you came out with a press
- 16:40release on Monday. It was entitled when will Enough Be Enough for the People
- 16:45of West Virginia? And in it you reference, among other things, the
- 16:48recent indictment of one official over the miss handling of COVID funds. So,
- 16:52so let's start there. What led to the press release and what was in
- 16:56it for people that didn't see it. Well, first of all, you
- 16:57know, there's an indictment of Tim Pretty that had to do with the emergency
- 17:00management response, and he was over some contracts that had to do with COVID
- 17:06testing and the contracts that were awarded were paid for and much greater than what
- 17:11testing was provided. And so so that's a way of funnel money and launder
- 17:17money into his potentially his own pocket. So that's that's what the indictment was
- 17:21about. And it's again just in one of these situations where the governor has
- 17:26been absent from being present. You know, there's been lawsuits about the governor
- 17:32not being living in the mansion or being president around there being a legislator over
- 17:36the past five years up here at the capital. And seeing how little the
- 17:41governor's actually present through this whole process and seeing the executive agencies just fall apart.
- 17:45It's disheartening because it's a big deal to be governor of West Virginia.
- 17:48You know, you would think that would be something that is your absolute number
- 17:53one priority. Nothing else matters while you're sitting in that office. That's what
- 17:56it should be. The people of Western You deserve that, and that's not
- 18:00been the case. What's happens he's you know, he's stuck buddies into these
- 18:03positions and left them with no accountability and let agency after agency fall into the
- 18:07ground to make national news on how on how terrible they are. Let mean,
- 18:11what's happened with state police? What happened to that? Now we've got
- 18:15Jack Chambers in there to fix it? And what happens is and this is
- 18:17what's been happening. It all falls apart, and then they go pick somebody
- 18:19some justice. Then go pick somebody that actually has the qualifications and the integrity
- 18:26to go run the organization, someone like a Jack Chambers, like a Jack
- 18:30Chambers, you know. And with DHHR, the legislature pushed and pushed and
- 18:34pushed and pushed to get rid of Bill Krautch, and he wouldn't do it
- 18:37until he absolutely had no choice. And so the legislature then went so farce,
- 18:40all right, you know what we're gonna do. We're just gonna go
- 18:41in and break up DHHR and make it so where you can go in and
- 18:45have somebody who's accountable to a specific expertise within DHHR. And then the governor
- 18:52veto's that Bill instead goes and waste a million dollars to bring it a nothing
- 18:56burger consulting agency in UH to go and say well, this is what it
- 19:00should be, and it pretty much should be the same. So the legislature
- 19:04saw that for what it was a waste of a million dollars in lip service,
- 19:08and the next time we ran the same legislation, we just ran it
- 19:11along in fast enough so that if you veto at this time, we could
- 19:14override it. And that's happened in agency after agency after agency. And so
- 19:18what I said now titled that when will enough be enough? Is because the
- 19:22governor is understandably very popular within West Virginia, because Westvigini's doing fantastic as a
- 19:29state as a whole, our economic performance, our growth, the quality of
- 19:33life is improving in West Virginia beyond what it's always been a great quality of
- 19:37life here, but it's improving even more now. And so as people feel
- 19:41that and experience that it's came from the leadership of a great deal that has
- 19:45come from the leadership of the Republicans since we've stepped into twenty fifteen, and
- 19:48a lot of legislations attracted that kind of growth, and so that gets awarded
- 19:55to the governor for that success. But the reality is is that that the
- 20:00statressit here and laid all these bills down, and so it gets governor,
- 20:03which ones of these do you want to be a governor's bill. He's not
- 20:06initiated this stuff on his own. He's taken the credit for it. And
- 20:10and for a lot of the people who are will show up to vote,
- 20:14they don't really you know, politics is in their life, and I completely
- 20:15understand that their blood pressure is probably lower. They probably are better off than
- 20:19we are, eric, to be honest with you, but they don't get
- 20:22to see the inside of things, and so what they see is the end
- 20:25result, and the guy at the head of it understandably gets to take credit
- 20:30for that result. But it's only deserved if you're actually present. And so
- 20:37the state's doing well in spite of the governor, not because of the governor,
- 20:41and his popularity doesn't show that, and so that's when that's hence the
- 20:45title of that pressure leaf is one will enough be enough? And you know
- 20:49the polls Senator and we're talking with senatorytar By the way, we do have
- 20:52a winner of the tickets for the log and Home show. It's Keith south
- 20:56Hall. So it congratulates it to Keith Caller three and he's on his way
- 20:59to the log Homes show this week at the Kittleseum and Convention said, those
- 21:03are will call tickets as we say in the business Keith, So we'll get
- 21:06your name and number over to the Cottoseum Convention Center gets you on the list
- 21:08for those tickets. Senator, with that being said, what you said about
- 21:11the popularity the polls are showing Governor Justice, who wants to be Senator Justice
- 21:15as way ahead. He has what some have called an insurmountable lead over Congressman
- 21:19Alex Mooney. Just last week he got the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.
- 21:26Jim Justice has approval ratings of governors still some of the highest in the
- 21:29nation. Is it what you said that people are not following this stuff that's
- 21:36kind of your assearch and don't want to put words in them out that they're
- 21:37just not following it closely that you're saying, it's not the governor that's responsible
- 21:41for this, it's the legislature. And how do you and what's your comment
- 21:45on Donald Trump endorsing Jim Justice for Senate. So I'll start with the endorsement
- 21:49pep for And it's no secret I'm a huge Trump fan. You know,
- 21:53the country has done better or was doing better than I'd ever seen it do
- 21:57in my time as an adult. Pay attention to how the country does as
- 22:03it was under Donald Trump. And even on my Senate floor desk, I've
- 22:06got a little figuring that that has a you push a button that has Donald
- 22:10Trump speaking that sits on my Senate floor desk. Oh. Yes, if
- 22:11you're down there on the Senate floor, you can hit that. And here's
- 22:14some of a lot of Trump's one liners. But one of the things that
- 22:18is apparent to anybody who's watched the process is that these endorsements such as the
- 22:23one that Jim Justice got it, Donald Trump didn't do that for Jim Justice.
- 22:30Donald Trump did that for Donald Trump. And so if you look at
- 22:33the politics about what's getting ready to happen within the Senate race, Joe Mansions
- 22:37not announced whether or not he's going to run for US Senate again or whether
- 22:40he'll get the consential race. You know, I think that it was anticipated
- 22:45and leaked out that Joe was going to make some sort of announcement this week
- 22:48in Charleston, right so ahead of that, very soon as that was leaked,
- 22:53are very close to the time that that was leaked, then you saw
- 22:57Donald Trump come in and do this endorseth So to me, that's Donald Trump
- 23:02trying to influence what Joe Manchin's going to do, because I think that frankly,
- 23:07I think Donald Trump would rather have Joe Manchin in the presidential race than
- 23:11in the Senate race here because I think that one, Joe's not going to
- 23:17win in State of Westernia and US Senate race, and he's not going to
- 23:22win the presidential race but as an independent. But what he can do is
- 23:26this significantly influence who ends up in the president's seat by the votes that he
- 23:30would take, and that's going to have leverage in there to where he could
- 23:33go in and I'm sure Joe would end up with some sort of cabinet position
- 23:36with the leverage on those votes. So what I think this happened with this
- 23:40is that I think that Donald Trump came in and endorsed Jim Justice to influence
- 23:45whatever that announcement may be or even if it will happen, in thinking that
- 23:52that if Joe steps in the race, he may think he can beat Alex,
- 23:55but not think he can beat Jim. Now, the reality is I
- 24:00think that out I think I think any given are against Joe Mansion wins the
- 24:03race. Yeah, I think that's where we are. I agree so,
- 24:06but I think it's it's more of a more challenging probably to do that if
- 24:12it's alex in in DC's opinion and then you know the national opinion of it.
- 24:18I don't think so so much here because I think it's a primary race
- 24:22and you're going to you know, in primary race, you got more Republicans
- 24:26who are conservative Republicans showing up to vote for who that's going to be,
- 24:30and whoever wins, that's going to win center race. And so if you're
- 24:33coming more conservative, you're announce moony vote even though the popularity is so high
- 24:37with the governor. I'm going to send it. Financier Ery Tar the Dave
- 24:41Allen Shoe brought to you a part by Husband's Pizza this month that your favorite
- 24:44husbands get a large a tennache Pepperoni pizza and any pizza deal only twenty one
- 24:48ninety nine. Find your local husbands for down in delivery pick up at Husband's
- 24:51Pizza dot com. Senator Tara I had someone within state government who was not
- 24:55an elected official, but it's a pretty high ranking person at the Capitol tell
- 24:59me the other day that regardless of who the next governor of West Virginia is,
- 25:03be it Attorney General Patrick Morrissey, Secretary of State, Mac Warner,
- 25:06Auto Magnet, Chris Miller, Delegate Moore Capito, or even Steve Williams,
- 25:11that they would just be happy to have a more conventional governor come twenty twenty
- 25:17five, when the new Governor of West Virginia would take office. Would you
- 25:19agree with that statement conventional? Well, I'd have to hear their definition of
- 25:26conny. But I tell you what I'd rather see is I would like to
- 25:30see somebody who's present. I would like to see somebody who I think that's
- 25:33probably what they meant by that, well, and someone who puts West Virginia
- 25:36first. It is it is, And by being present, you're demonstrating you're
- 25:40willing to put West Virginia first ahead of your businesses or social or your family
- 25:45life and those things. Because it's a sacrifice that you make. It really
- 25:48is when you step into these offices. That's that when you make this kind
- 25:52of commitment to the people who vote for you that office while you're there,
- 25:56you do that first. And so we haven't had that out of this governor
- 26:00and you see all the things that's happening around his businesses, and when you
- 26:04see him having to move a helicopter from here to there to everywhere, like
- 26:07somebody's moving their pickup truck try to keep it from getting repossessed. And then
- 26:12on top of that, I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if you wouldn't
- 26:15see the green briar being next. And it can't move the greenbrier, you
- 26:18know, so, and that'll be devastating the state of West Virginia. So
- 26:21I would like to see somebody who's going to come in and not have all
- 26:26that distraction and be an operator. So somebody who comes into the into that
- 26:30governor seat, who is present with the legislature, who's there to converse with
- 26:33on a regular basis, somebody who's actually got their hands into what's happened in
- 26:37operations, and somebody who goes in and puts the expertise at the head of
- 26:41the agencies first instead of buddies at the head of the agencies. First,
- 26:45you mentioned your support for former President Donald Trump. We had a text about
- 26:49that, and I know you don't care to answer this, so I'm going
- 26:52to ask you Sistara supports Trump, does he think our vets are suckers and
- 26:56losers and does not want to be around disabled vets like Donald Trump. I
- 27:00think that anybody, any veteran's ever met me, been close to me,
- 27:03knows the answer that question. I'm just incredibly strong support of our veterans.
- 27:10And you know, one of my really good friends. It's actually I got
- 27:11an I watch or and I watching, and your audience can't see this,
- 27:15but I'm gonna show it. I'm gonna show it to you, Daves when
- 27:17I turn this over. What's what's on next in our pass code? Again?
- 27:23All right, it's picture of you and Donald Trump that Donald I only
- 27:27saw. It went off too quick. I didn't get to see it.
- 27:30That's Whatdy Williams. Okay, I couldn't see it, so yeah, sorry
- 27:33about that. It happens fast, but I was spending around there. So
- 27:37one of my really good friends, Okay, I see it now. Yeah,
- 27:41I just saw the red tie assumed it was Trump for a long time,
- 27:45is Whatdy Williams. And so what he and I have had really good
- 27:47relationship over the years prior to his passing, had conversations really about the direction
- 27:52the country has headed for long and one of my really really strong mentors on
- 27:55my political positions over the years has been Woody Williams. So it's and to
- 28:00understand the sacrifice that those guys make and talking about putting service in front of
- 28:03anything else that's the ultimate is whatever. But I think what the texture was
- 28:07referring to is the comments that Donald Trump has made that had been very disrespectful
- 28:11a lot of people's eyes towards veterans. So that it comes back to the
- 28:15results our country had. You know, Donald Trump was the first person to
- 28:18go up. He said a lot of stupid things. He's done a lot
- 28:21of stupid things. Hands down, I mean, nobody's going to argue that,
- 28:26but it's also very difficult to argue the situation in our country was moving
- 28:29ahead. America was becoming the the the powerhouse in the world again, and
- 28:36now without Trump, we are the apologetic laughter, our laughing stock maybe of
- 28:42the world. You know, the fact that what's going on with Israel now,
- 28:47we just did a resolution supporting Israel with the Senate here the other day,
- 28:49and I think every senator i think signed off on that resolution. You
- 28:52gotta support that. But when when we send our military over to the sea,
- 28:56and China has absolutely no qualms about sending their destroyers right up there after
- 29:03ours. It shows that. But they're not afraid anymore, and they should
- 29:07be. I mean, America is an incredible powerhouse, and that powerhouse existed
- 29:14not just in name only, it existed in effect under Donald Trump and the
- 29:18current leadership of this country with Joe Biden or whoever's pulling his strings, has
- 29:25made life more dangerous for every citizen of West Virginia. And we need that
- 29:30kind of strength back. So irrespective of what he said, that's where we
- 29:33were and we're not there now, so we need somebody back in there who
- 29:37can do it again. He's proven he can do it, and I said
- 29:40it on Hoppy Show one time. I said, you know, they can
- 29:42do all this Banana Republic stuff with him all they want. He can end
- 29:45up in a prison cell, and I'll vote for him in a prison cell.
- 29:48He can. He can imparton himself and get back to business. It's
- 29:52in the financiary tarbor. Before we let you go, I want to bring
- 29:53it back to West Virginia for a moment. We have a story that was
- 29:56posted on the website and that Chris and the team talked about this morning and
- 30:00has to do with volunteer fire departments in West Virginia. They've they've suffered,
- 30:06you know, a lot. And I wasn't at the Putnam County Commission meeting
- 30:08last night, but I did hear some of the audio that we played back
- 30:11of the morning news this morning that one of the fire officials over there was
- 30:15praising the legislature, specifically you, but also the legislature for some work you
- 30:22were able to do to help out the fire departments. Explain what that gentleman
- 30:25was talking about. Yeah, So across every industry, everybody has seen decreasing
- 30:30workforce and the availability of expertise to workforce, and within our volunteer fire departments
- 30:34and even our paid fire departments and our first responders across the board, whether
- 30:38it be MS or whether it be police force, they're seeing a few and
- 30:42fewer people come into those professions and it's making it more difficult to deliver the
- 30:47services that keep our families safe. And it became mission I'll use a Chief
- 30:52Smoot's words, it became mission critical in Putnam County because they were going to
- 30:57have to reduce their hours to twelve hours a day. So if you lived,
- 31:02if you lived in Putnam County and we're serviced by Tay's Valley Fire Department,
- 31:06you were going to have fire coverage twelve hours a day. So if
- 31:08your house started catch fire after some time between then and then there, you
- 31:11might be calling Saint Aubans, you might be calling over from Hurricane or Cable
- 31:17County, or you know who knows to try to hopefully can get to somebody
- 31:19that's available to come to Putnam County and that that's going on across the state.
- 31:25So when as it was getting to that, Chief Smook came to my
- 31:29office and he said, hey, he said, here's where we are.
- 31:32What can we do to help get this done? So we had had been
- 31:34having that discussion as legislature over this past session. The bill, the bill
- 31:40that would have significantly improved that situation feil at the very last minute legislative session,
- 31:45and so we worked really really hard to get on the call a bill
- 31:48that put it twelve million dollars into our fire departments, and it would the
- 31:52six million dollars of that is recurring year after year, and had it not
- 31:55been for the governor, would have been twelve million dollars a year after year
- 31:57going into our volunteer fire departments. So I was really I'm really grateful just
- 32:05the way they showed their appreciation. I was happy to lead in that effort.
- 32:07But I tell you what, it was a huge team effort amongst the
- 32:09Senate and our colleagues in the House. So the financier are tar It's always
- 32:14a pleasure to have you on the show. Oh yeah, it's always pleasure

- 35:53Day, Congratulations of a new title for the program. We enjoy listening to
- 35:58your programming every morning. Appreciate oh you do? First state to keep us
- 36:00up to eight and important issues blessings. According to a Texter, Texas Dave
- 36:06very Tar blames the Democrats for the inaptitude of the majority and super majority Republicans
- 36:10inability to agree on who they want to lead them, let alone lead the
- 36:15state of nation. He's a Trump apologist and in denial that Trump is a
- 36:17criminal, deflecting all his shortcomings in Biden, who is actually doing his job,
- 36:23says a text. Uh, Texas is ry Tar. Since arey Tar
- 36:29speaking, Trump has done a lot of stupid things, so I and you
- 36:31should all follow him so we're not the laughing stock of the world. Hate
- 36:35to break it to you, area, but Trump made us the laughing stock
- 36:37In twenty sixteen, Texas local Republican policies to fund the local fire department.
- 36:43The local fire department runs to state Republicans for funding. Is that the correct
- 36:45assessment? Mike Pushkin, State Democratic Party Chair, is here right now.
- 36:51How are you, man, I'm doing good, good morning. Great to
- 36:53see you. Great to see you and Eric tart I ran into Senator Tar
- 36:58on the way out and shook hands. I got a picture to prove it.
- 37:00I'll post that a little bit later on on on social media. You
- 37:05know, Senator Tar doesn't have to he's not on the ballot this year,
- 37:07he's in the middle of his term. But I am and that picture could
- 37:12could definitely affect my chances in the primary. Yeah, I'm just kidding it.
- 37:16It's just a picture. I know, it's just a picture. It's
- 37:19just a picture. It's just a picture. Yeah, all right. So
- 37:22how are the Jets doing? You know what? Unbelievably well. They considered
- 37:27probably one of the toughest schedules to start the season. I mean they they've
- 37:30played the Kansas City Chiefs, they beat the Philadelphia Eagles, one of the
- 37:36best teams in the league. We beat the Eagles. Anybody that beats the
- 37:38Eagles as a friend of mine, and I think we should have beaten the
- 37:42Kansas City Chiefs. They had a little help from the refs, as the
- 37:45Chiefs usually do. I refer to them as the Kansas City Cheats and the
- 37:50Taylor Swift you know things. Well, he can't beat Taylor Swift. So
- 37:52but we're three and three after running the gauntlet, and you know, four
- 37:55plays into the season, we lost our new Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
- 38:00But we're doing unbelievably well. I think we have a good chance.
- 38:06We're gonna have a fun season. I think so. All right, all
- 38:08right, you want to talk about something that's football, other than the football
- 38:13that's coming, other than football, soup and Eric tar. You want to
- 38:15talk about something else. So what what do you got for to talk about
- 38:19soup? I didn't realize that was one of the options. Uh No,
- 38:22this week speaking of soup, we might be serving soup. I haven't checked
- 38:24the menu. But this weekend, Saturday evening over at the Charleston Convention Center.
- 38:32We always forget what it's called the Charleston Coliseum. Charleston Coliseum and Convention
- 38:37Center over the convention center side. The West Virginia Democratic Party is we are
- 38:43holding our annual Roosevelt Kennedy Dinner, which is a you know, annual event
- 38:45that we have every year to bring Democrats from all over the state together and
- 38:52have entertainment, listen to some great speakers, and have a good meal.
- 38:55This year, our keynote speaker, who actually just got off the phone with
- 39:00is Her name's Anderson Clayton. She's been on national TV. She's had a
- 39:04lot of national press written about her. She is the new chair of the
- 39:08North Carolina Democratic Party. She's twenty five years old. She's the youngest state
- 39:13chair in the country, if ever, I don't know if any other.
- 39:17She's a lot longer than you are. She's a lot younger than you are
- 39:21too, and and you know, she's just full of energy. She has
- 39:25a real passion for what she's doing. And her message is something I think
- 39:30is very pertinent to West Virginians, and that is to reach rural America.
- 39:37She's from near the where she lives in North Carolina. It's right near the
- 39:40North Carolina Virginia border. She's in a very rural part of North Carolina.
- 39:45And her message is how we need to do a better job of reaching rural
- 39:50voters. And I think that's a message that really resonates in West Virginia.
- 39:52By that, she means the state Democratic part the Democratic Party general, needs
- 39:57to do a better job of reaching r I want to agree with the voter
- 40:00with that. Yeah, yeah, we need to and uh. And so
- 40:01she's a great messenger for this and she's really uh, very energetic, and
- 40:07she's a great speaker, and it's gonna be a good time. We also
- 40:08have musical entertainment. As you know, I love music. I'm a musician,
- 40:13and we have the music. The house band for the evening, of
- 40:15course, is Charleston's own carpenter ants, who've been around for every Everybody loves
- 40:21the carpenter. They're very good at what they do. They're going to be
- 40:23joined by West Virginia Music Hall of Famer John Ellison, who's backed by popular
- 40:30demand. He's been at our at our event before. John Ellison is uh.
- 40:32He's from McDowell County originally, and he is uh. He's a great
- 40:37performer. He defies all time and space. Because this guy's like he's like
- 40:44eighty years old and he still rocks out like a young kid, and but
- 40:47his claim to fame, among other things, is he wrote the song some
- 40:51kind of wonderful of course, that was made uh popular by you know,
- 40:57Grand Funk, Grand Funk Real Grand Fund did a version know it as of
- 41:00about a thousand other people a lot of Grand Funks is probably the standard version,
- 41:05but there's been a lot of R and B singers and country singers have
- 41:07done It's fanta you ever have you ever done that song? In here?
- 41:09Actually last year I got to play it with John Ellison. Well, now
- 41:14that's a that's a big deal right there. Yeah, so yeah, So
- 41:16John Ellison will be there, and also we have a West Virginia singer,
- 41:21songwriter, Andrew Atkins, will also be joining us. I've actually seen Andrew
- 41:23Atkin. Andrew is a great guy, a great songwriter, And it's gonna
- 41:27be an entertaining, fun and uh evening. And we also have some other
- 41:31speakers from elective officials and other party leaders from around the state who will be
- 41:36joining us. And I just want to get the word out there that we're
- 41:38having this dinner and if you if you would like to attend, I'm not
- 41:44talking Dave. You're welcome to wean't talk to your listeners as well. If
- 41:46you would like to attend, The tickets are going fast, we are.
- 41:50I'm proud to announce that we're almost that capacity here. Really, yeah,
- 41:53we're getting Yeah, we're running short on tickets. If you want a ticket,
- 41:57I would suggest going to our website today and that's WV Democrats dot com
- 42:01and then backslash ark if that's the easiest way to get to the tickets.
- 42:06It's backslash ark and that's how you can get a ticket for the event.
- 42:09And we'd love to see you there. So So, Mike, I'm kind
- 42:12of interested in what the program is going to look like because, and this
- 42:16is no fault of yours or any one person. As you said, the
- 42:22Democratic Party as a whole, not in West Virginia but nationwide has not done
- 42:27a great job of messaging. Sometimes You've even admitted that on the show.
- 42:30So, I mean, anytime you have an event like this, it's kind
- 42:35of a celebratory thing. You know, you get up and you say,
- 42:37well, this is what we did and this is what we're going to do
- 42:38whatever. Not been a good couple of years for the Democratic Party, you
- 42:44know, long before you took over, I mean going back ten years or
- 42:46more in West Virginia. So you highlight the positives. I mean, there
- 42:50haven't been a whole heck of a lot as far as getting people in office.
- 42:52But what do you say. I think we highlight the need for us
- 42:55to come together, stay united, get great candidates on the ballot, and
- 43:01give the voters options up and down the ballot of people who are reasonable that
- 43:07we could put in public office for the right reasons, because they want to
- 43:10serve the public, and because they're able to actually get the job of governing
- 43:15done. I mean, if you look at the at the national news right
- 43:20now, the Republicans are making it clear that they don't know how to govern.
- 43:24It's we do not have a speak Can you ever remember in our lifetime
- 43:28we didn't have a We don't have a speaker. It's a crap show.
- 43:30What's going on in DC is a crap show right now. And I'm stating
- 43:32that I don't see them. I don't see it. I don't see them
- 43:36coming to an agreement anytime soon because their party has been and the Republican Party
- 43:40has been has been taken over by a very very extreme element that answers to
- 43:47one person, one person who's in court right now, and if he doesn't,
- 43:52if the if they're candidate for speaker, if their nominee for speaker doesn't
- 43:57deny the election results of twenty twenty, they're not going to get him or
- 44:01or a good part of his people, which we could call what I think
- 44:06McCarthy called the Crazy Eight. And that's enough. They have such a slim
- 44:09margin that that's enough to hold the Congress and the entire nation hostage right now.
- 44:15And we have, you know, so many things going on all over
- 44:17the world, whether it's Ukraine or what's going on in the Middle East,
- 44:21and we need to have a strong united front here and we don't because the
- 44:25Republicans and Congress can't get their act together. So, yeah, we have
- 44:30a lot to talk about on Saturday Night. We're a party that actually,
- 44:34even though it's been tough for us here in West Virginia as of late,
- 44:37well, we think we can do a better job. In fact, we
- 44:39know we can do a better job. Is all you need to look at
- 44:42is what's going on in Congress. Yeah, you know what, we could
- 44:45do a better job. But Dave Allen Show has brought you fired by your

- 47:49delicate. Mike Pushkin this here, Mike. You know you and I like
- 47:52to kid and joke a lot. But last time you were on the show,
- 47:53we talked about the crisis in Israel. It's a couple of days removed
- 47:57now it's obviously not getting any any better over there. The President, President
- 48:01Joe Biden, made an appearance been a visit to Israel, certainly a dangerous
- 48:07situation last week. Your thoughts on the President's visit to Israel last week.
- 48:10I think that President Biden is doing a very good job as our head of
- 48:16state, as our commander in chief right now. When he went over there
- 48:20and spoke to the situation, and I think he's been very strong. Of
- 48:24course that the United States has always stood with our greatest ally in the region,
- 48:30and that's Israel. But also you stress the need for humanitarian aid and
- 48:36to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis as well, and they're also currently you know,
- 48:42negotiating for the release of hostages, not just not just our American hostages,
- 48:45but Israeli hostages as well. What do you make of around the country
- 48:51And I've talked about a little mike on some of the college campus, particularly
- 48:54Harvard and others and some of the larger cities that there have been protests protesting
- 49:01what has happened over there and taking the side of believe it or not,
- 49:06Hamas well, what do you make of that? Because it's it's primarily a
- 49:09liberal, progressive folks that are doing this, and people point out and say
- 49:14I saw one sign that said like queers for Hamas and that lifestyle would not
- 49:21be tolerated in that faror by Hamas. What do you make of all that?
- 49:24Well, it's confusion or first of all, I mean, I'm pretty
- 49:29much a free speech absolutist, Okay. I believe in our constitution. I
- 49:32believe in our Bill of rights, people have the right to state their opinion
- 49:37as long as they're not harming anybody else. I think people have the right
- 49:40to be wrong. And I mean you just had Senator Eric Tarr, He's
- 49:45I believe he's wrong all the time, but that's his right. Uh,
- 49:47it didn't last the handshake didn't last long, but go ahead. But no,
- 49:52it's I think a lot of people don't completely It's a very very complicated
- 49:58situation that a lot of people don't understand all the nuances of it. But
- 50:01I don't think anybody could. I don't see how anybody in their right mind
- 50:06could take the side of a terrorist organization, especially with what happened on Saturday,
- 50:12October seventh. It was a horrible, horrible sneak attack by a terrorist
- 50:17organization, and they put a lot of people's lives in jeopardy with that action.
- 50:22You know, Israel pulled out of Gaza almost twenty years ago, right
- 50:29and not long after that, Hamas a terrorist organization, put itself in power
- 50:35as and that's who is who and for lack of better terms, because they
- 50:39don't really govern, but that's who controls that area and cannot live next door
- 50:46to a terrorist organization who's whose stated goal is to kill you tech, says
- 50:52ask Pushkin. If you believes Israel should eliminate Hamas, Hamas is a terrorist
- 50:57organization, they should be eliminated, just like I was. Eliminated. I'll
- 51:01throw this out there anytime that people want to know what exactly you're dealing with
- 51:05over there. And I read this report a couple of days ago. There
- 51:07was a grandmother that was on her phone when the attacks happened, and she
- 51:12was trying to communicate with her family elsewhere and tell them what was going on.
- 51:15This one guy wasn't a group. It was one guy came into her
- 51:19home, Mike took her phone, murdered her, not just shot her,
- 51:22I mean murdered her, mutilated her, and filmed the entire thing on Facebook
- 51:28and put it out. Now obviously it's been taken down since then. This
- 51:30is what you're dealing with with these people. Yeah, it's sick there,
- 51:35terrorist organization. They can't be described as anything other than that. That's what
- 51:39they're dealing with over there. And I think a lot of people can't because
- 51:44of how we live over here. They can't really get a real perspective of
- 51:47that. It's hard for them to understand what go is going on over there
- 51:53on a day to day basis. And of course, you know what,
- 51:57my heart goes out. I don't want to see anybody. I don't want
- 52:00to see any innocent people harmed, and I hope that that that's kept to
- 52:07a complete minimum, but it's you know, they're in a in a no
- 52:09win situation over there right now. I just pray for everybody involved. Dave
- 52:13Alan Joe brought to you part about general hardware and number of Winfield Give me
