- 0:48She's a happy girl.
- 1:03We all know people who attend church regularly, but the teachings of Jesus and
- 1:08the ways of God's people simply don't exude from them.
- 1:11They play church, if you will, but they don't really allow God to penetrate
- 1:15their hearts or be Lord of their lives.
- 1:18No doubt these people know a lot about God, but they don't have a relationship with Him.
- 1:24Join us in this podcast of Woman at the Well Ministries, as Kim takes us on
- 1:28a journey through the scriptures, revealing how we can truly know God by having
- 1:33a personal relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus.
- 1:36Come join us as we receive the blessings of having a personal relationship with
- 1:40Jesus and being part of the family of God.
- 1:44Hello, and thank you for joining us in this podcast of Woman at the Well Ministries. Let's pray.
- 1:49Our kind and most gracious to Heavenly Father, Lord, I just pray that you would
- 1:53remove me from this message, that the Holy Spirit would lead God and direct,
- 1:58and Lord, that you would speak through these lips of clay.
- 2:02I pray that you would prepare the hearts and the minds of those that are going
- 2:07to hear it, and Lord, that we would receive exactly what it is that you would
- 2:11have us to receive from that which you have given me.
- 2:16Lord, teach us to walk in your ways. Teach us to delight in your word.
- 2:21Help us, Lord, to desire you more than anything. And in Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
- 2:30Today, I want to bring to your attention a truth that is hard to talk about.
- 2:40It's hurtful. It's painful.
- 2:43But the truth is, there are many people today who we rub elbows with,
- 2:50and we go to church with, and we go to Christian events with,
- 2:54who simply don't have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
- 3:00They're good people, perhaps, but goodness does not get you to heaven.
- 3:07Scripture says that there's only one that is good.
- 3:10That was God, his son Jesus.
- 3:14So when we think about our good deeds, Isaiah said that all of our good works are as filthy rags.
- 3:22There is none righteous, no, not one.
- 3:27We can't work our way into heaven. We're told that in Ephesians 2.8.9,
- 3:31where he says, for by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves.
- 3:35It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.
- 3:42So it's not about what we've done, but it is about the finished work of Calvary
- 3:48and what Jesus himself did because of the love of God who gave his son to die for our sins,
- 3:56as we read about in John 3.16,
- 3:59which says, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son,
- 4:04that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but
- 4:08have everlasting life the scripture says
- 4:11in john 14 6 i am the way the truth and the life and
- 4:14no man cometh unto the father but by me these are words by jesus and so there
- 4:22are those who walk in the church house there are those that pay money to the
- 4:29church there are those that or kind to the poor and kind to the sick.
- 4:34But they are not Christians because they've not placed their faith in Jesus Christ.
- 4:42As we begin to look at this, I would like for you to turn in your Bibles to Philippians chapter 3.
- 4:49And here we're going to talk about what God says.
- 4:55And you're going to see that Paul experienced those who walked in carnality,
- 5:00and he warned them against the perils of going their own way.
- 5:07See, Scripture says in Romans 10, 13, that whosoever shall call upon the name
- 5:12of the Lord shall be saved.
- 5:14It's through and by the work of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary,
- 5:18the sinless, spotless Lamb who shed his blood, that our sins are washed away.
- 5:24But he will not wash away your sin if you do not ask him to do so and you do.
- 5:30Not place your faith in him.
- 5:33Going to church doesn't save you. No more than going to the hospital makes you a surgeon.
- 5:41Doing good things doesn't save you.
- 5:45No more than eating Chinese food makes you from China.
- 5:50It has to be a conscious effort, a conscious decision.
- 5:58Deuteronomy, we read, it's put like this, choose you this day whom you will serve.
- 6:03We have to choose Jesus.
- 6:08Joshua said, as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
- 6:13The question remains today. Do you know Jesus?
- 6:20Do you have a relationship with him? It's not enough to know about him.
- 6:26It's not enough to be able to spout fact after fact after fact.
- 6:31It's great to hide his word in your heart so you don't sin against him.
- 6:35That's what the psalmist David told us to do.
- 6:38It's fantastic to combat the devil with the word of God. That's what Jesus showed us to do.
- 6:45But we have an opportunity from Genesis to Revelations to understand the character
- 6:50of God, to know him because we know Jesus, his son.
- 6:58In John chapter 14 and verse 7, he said it like this, If ye had known me,
- 7:03you should have known my father also.
- 7:06And from henceforth you know him and have seen him.
- 7:10What he's saying is, if you know me, this is Jesus speaking,
- 7:13If you know me, you know God.
- 7:17And you know him because you've seen him in me.
- 7:21And the entire New Testament is devoted to showing us the works and the acts of Christ.
- 7:27And the Old Testament is telling us the prophecies that are fulfilled through him.
- 7:32We learn of him, and we see them fulfilled, and we see him all in Scripture.
- 7:40And to know Jesus is to know God.
- 7:44But you've got to know him. You can't know of him.
- 7:49I've always been a huge sports fan.
- 7:53And I know a lot of facts and figures about the sports stars that I really like.
- 8:03I know things about their wins and their losses. I know where they're from.
- 8:07Often know who their coaches were.
- 8:10I know their names. I know their playing styles. I can talk to you about them a lot.
- 8:19But I don't know them at all. I can't call them up.
- 8:24If you ask them, who's Kim Miller? They have no clue.
- 8:29So talking about them may make you think that I know them, but the truth of
- 8:33the matter is I don't know them any more than you know them.
- 8:36I just know facts about them.
- 8:39Today, I want us to really reflect on, do you know him?
- 8:45Do you have a relationship with him?
- 8:48Because you got to know more than just him, more than just about him.
- 8:53You've got to know him. You've got to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- 9:02Let's turn, if you will, to Philippians 3, beginning in verse 7.
- 9:08Here's what Paul is saying. He says, But what things were gained to me,
- 9:13those I counted loss for Christ.
- 9:17One of the first characteristics that you'll see of a child of God is that their
- 9:24works glorify the Savior.
- 9:28In Matthew 5, in verse 16, he says that we're to let our light so shine before
- 9:33men that they may see our good works and glorify our Father which is in heaven.
- 9:38Our words and our actions, they point people to Jesus.
- 9:44That's a characteristic of a child of God.
- 9:50Jesus pointed everybody to God, the Father.
- 9:54He was the Savior of the world, yet he gave all attributes to God.
- 10:00In verse 8, it goes, Yea, doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the
- 10:05excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord,
- 10:09for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.
- 10:16Christ, he is saying, I have given up everything there is within me to know
- 10:23Christ, to have knowledge of who he is, but to know him,
- 10:29to have a personal relationship with him.
- 10:32I've suffered loss and anything else that is different than that was about my
- 10:39relationship with Jesus Christ, I don't count that as a win.
- 10:43He is plain in saying that his desire, his motivation, his inspiration,
- 10:53his energy, his effort, his goal, his purpose, his determination is to have
- 11:00a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- 11:03Could that be said of you?
- 11:07Are you playing the role as a Christian, and you kind of just put it on and take it off?
- 11:14On Sunday mornings, and maybe even Sunday evenings,
- 11:17and perhaps even Wednesday, you put on that cloak of Christianity,
- 11:22and you walk in that door, and everybody sees you smiling and laughing,
- 11:27and you know all the buzzwords,
- 11:28and you put the money in the plates, and you hug the widows,
- 11:33and you show up to mow the grass.
- 11:37But do you know him? What's your purpose and motivation for all of those things?
- 11:43Do you have a personal relationship?
- 11:47Have you been willing to deny yourself and take up your cross and follow him?
- 11:53Is he worth giving up your wants?
- 11:57Is he worth giving up your desires, your dreams, your hopes,
- 12:03to follow the one and only true living God. He's worth it, friend.
- 12:08But do you understand that he's worth it?
- 12:12In verse 9, it goes on, Be found in him not having mine own righteousness,
- 12:16which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ,
- 12:20the righteousness which is of God by faith.
- 12:24He's clearly stating that he's
- 12:27made a choice to give up
- 12:30self and to have the righteousness of
- 12:33god imputed into him by the regeneration
- 12:37of ourself to be born again created new creatures in christ jesus by believing
- 12:43in the only begotten son of god that he died on the cross of calvary that he
- 12:48is the way and the only way and that when i place my faith in him and let him
- 12:53be lord Lord of my life and King of my heart,
- 12:56and I give up self-reliance,
- 13:00then I know that He is my Savior.
- 13:03And it's His righteousness by faith.
- 13:08Faith in a God that cannot fail. Faith in a God that you give top priority.
- 13:13Faith in a God that you serve, not that you are co-fellowers of the gospel,
- 13:21but that he is God and you are his servant, you are his child.
- 13:27Friends, do you know him in a personal way?
- 13:32Paul says he does all of this in verse 10, that I may know him and the power of his resurrection.
- 13:42Wow. Paul makes a bold statement.
- 13:46He gives it all up and places his faith in Jesus Christ, that he may know him.
- 13:53We read in John 14, 7, that to know Jesus is to know God.
- 13:58He gives it all up and places his faith in the Lord and allows the Lord to impute
- 14:04his righteousness, to give him his righteousness.
- 14:06So when God looks upon the hearts of Paul, he sees the blood of Christ and he
- 14:12sees the forgiveness of his sins to be remembered against him no more as far
- 14:17as the east is from the west.
- 14:20Paul says he does this that he may know him. and the power of the resurrection.
- 14:25The resurrection was so powerful that it brought the dead to life.
- 14:30I'm telling you, we are dead in our trespasses and sins, and when we place our
- 14:34faith in Jesus Christ, we are brought to life.
- 14:38He said that he came that we might have life and have it more abundantly,
- 14:42only through and by the power of Jesus Christ and his resurrecting power to
- 14:47forgive us of our sins, to cleanse us from all unrighteousness,
- 14:51to turn us around so that we are walking and we are a lively hope in Jesus Christ.
- 14:57Only Jesus can do that. This is the power of the resurrection.
- 15:03And then he says, I've given it all up to be fellowship of his sufferings.
- 15:08Look, we're told in James to be friends with the world as to be an enemy with God.
- 15:14The things that used to bring you pleasure, well, they don't do that anymore.
- 15:19Because the scripture says in John 14, verse 15, If you love me, keep my commandments.
- 15:27Those who love the Lord Jesus Christ follow after his ways, and the things of
- 15:32the world are no longer attractive.
- 15:34The things of the world are no longer got a hold on them.
- 15:38Sin no longer has bondage over us. We are no longer slaves to sin.
- 15:42We have been freed by Jesus Christ, and who Jesus sets free, they are free indeed.
- 15:49Do you know him? Do you have a personal relationship?
- 15:54In verse 11, he says, If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of
- 15:58the dead, not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect,
- 16:03but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
- 16:10He's seeking to be like Christ.
- 16:15Those who know Jesus as personal Savior, they are drawing close to him.
- 16:21And he says, if you draw close to him, he'll draw close to you.
- 16:24They are seeking to be more and more like him.
- 16:26They are submitting more and more of themselves to him that he may feel them to overflowing.
- 16:32There is a difference in the child of God.
- 16:36You should look different, act different, speak different.
- 16:39There should be a holy glow about you. The Holy Spirit indwells you,
- 16:44and a person who is not saved doesn't have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
- 16:48You should be different, and he creates in you a new creation,
- 16:53he tells us in 2 Corinthians 5.17.
- 16:57He tells us in verse 13, I count not myself to have apprehended or to know,
- 17:04but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching
- 17:10forth into those things which are before,
- 17:12I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
- 17:19Paul is saying, I've left it all behind. There's nothing there for me.
- 17:24When you know who Christ is, when you understand the character of God and you
- 17:29understand that he died for you and you place your faith in him and you begin
- 17:35a relationship with Jesus Christ that is personal.
- 17:39Abraham was called the friend of God. Lazarus was a friend of Jesus.
- 17:45Mary and Martha, he called us friends.
- 17:49If we love him and follow after him.
- 17:52He says, greater love hath no man than this, than a man would lay down his life for his friends.
- 17:58Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
- 18:02And as a born-again Christian with a personal relationship in Jesus Christ,
- 18:07one who is embracing him, embracing his ways, can't get enough of his word because
- 18:12the word was made flesh and dwelt among us.
- 18:15And when I read his word, I am sitting in his presence. When I pray,
- 18:19I am praying to God, and I am praying to Jesus, and I'm understanding that there's a conversation.
- 18:26And when he says, Be still and know that he is God, he's speaking into my heart.
- 18:31The Holy Spirit is bringing to my mind those things that I have remembrance of.
- 18:36The scriptures are flying through my mind. My heart is conditioned to hear him when he whispers.
- 18:44And my eyes are fixed upon him.
- 18:48And the things of this world grow strangely dim, and I'm following him,
- 18:54and I want to be closer to him.
- 18:58The more I know him, the more I want to know him.
- 19:02The closer I get, the closer I want to be.
- 19:06He says that those who have been perfected in Christ Jesus, they need to be of one accord.
- 19:14He's telling us we need to walk the way God and Jesus would have us,
- 19:20to do the things of Christ.
- 19:24He's saying, be followers of me, not to worship him, but to let him be the example,
- 19:31to be an example for others.
- 19:35Here's the crux of the message.
- 19:38He says for many walk whom I've told you often and now tell you even weeping
- 19:45that they are enemies of the cross of Christ.
- 19:50Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, their own way,
- 19:55the way they've satisfied themselves, the way that they think they've taken care of themselves.
- 19:59See, they are attributing the provisions of God, the strength of God,
- 20:04the blessings of God, the rewards they are given to God's children.
- 20:08They are attributing those things to themselves when the truth of the matter
- 20:13is we are nothing without Christ Jesus.
- 20:17Everything that you have and everything that you are is because of the love,
- 20:22grace, and mercy of Jesus Christ.
- 20:24It's a love without end. And you say, well, that doesn't seem right to me because people go to hell.
- 20:31It breaks his heart because none were meant to go there.
- 20:37He says that he wishes that all would come to repentance.
- 20:40Hell was not created for human beings to be there, but we choose it.
- 20:47Because we don't choose Jesus.
- 20:50We have to choose.
- 20:52In 1 John 5.13, he says this, These things have I written unto you that believe
- 20:59on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know,
- 21:03that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
- 21:10In verse 19, when he talks about those who don't walk in the way of Christ,
- 21:15They mind earthly things.
- 21:18Are the things of this world more important to you than the things of God?
- 21:23Do you make time for everything except prayer or reading?
- 21:28When you go to church, are you listening to what God has to say?
- 21:32Are you reading his word and allowing him to convict your heart and to change your ways?
- 21:39Or are you marking a box off?
- 21:43Using it as a social event on your calendar. In John chapter 14 and verse 21,
- 21:49he said, He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me.
- 21:55And he that loveth me shall be
- 21:57loved in my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him.
- 22:02Jesus is seen in the actions, the words, and the life of those who call him Savior.
- 22:11Jesus is more than facts and figures to those who've yielded their life to him.
- 22:18In Ephesians chapter 1, beginning in verse 17, we read this,
- 22:24that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,
- 22:26the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.
- 22:35Genesis to Revelations, that tremendous love letter written for each of us so
- 22:42that we would have knowledge of who he is.
- 22:45That the Spirit of God would give
- 22:48us wisdom and reveal to us who God is so that we would believe on him.
- 22:53In verse 18, it says, The eyes of your understanding being enlightened,
- 22:57that ye may know what is the hope of his calling and what the riches of the
- 23:03glory of his inheritance in the saints.
- 23:06We are given all that we need to live righteous and holy lives.
- 23:12Eye hath not seen and ear hath not heard what lies in store for them that love
- 23:16the Lord. You haven't even thought about it.
- 23:20That's how much he loves you.
- 23:22Verse 19 of Ephesians 1, he says, And what is the exceeding greatness of his
- 23:27power to usward who believe?
- 23:30According to the working of his mighty power. Philippians said that we might
- 23:34know the resurrection power.
- 23:36Ephesians is telling us, according to the working of his mighty power,
- 23:40which we wrought in Christ when he raised him from the dead and sent him at
- 23:45his own right hand in heavenly places, far above all principality and power
- 23:49and might and dominion, and every name that is named,
- 23:52not only in this world, but also in the world which is to come.
- 23:56And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all
- 24:00things of church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.
- 24:07That void you're feeling right now, that hole in your life that drugs doesn't
- 24:14seem to occupy for any length of time, that booze won't help you forget,
- 24:21that nothing gets rid of that longing, that is Jesus Christ's place.
- 24:28You were created in his image, and he is reaching out to you,
- 24:34beckoning you to accept him.
- 24:37Turning away. You're choosing hell over heaven.
- 24:43Some of you are doing it looking so good, but only those things done for Christ will last.
- 24:50And he's not expecting anything from you other than you believe in him and submit yourselves to him.
- 25:00That you accept that you are a sinner in need of a Savior, that you confess
- 25:05that He is the Lord Jesus Christ, the one and only Savior of the world,
- 25:09and that you believe in Him,
- 25:12and that you come alongside and confess Him.
- 25:17Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
- 25:22Every word testifies to His love for you and me. It's not found in the church.
- 25:31It's not found in the bottle.
- 25:34And it certainly isn't found in ourselves. Nope.
- 25:40Psalms 37, verse 4 says, Delight thyself also in the Lord, and he shall give
- 25:45thee the desires of thine heart.
- 25:48Peace is found in Jesus. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
- 25:52whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26.3.
- 26:00Joy, unspeakable, and a peace that passes all understanding is yours for the
- 26:07taking if you but put your faith in Jesus.
- 26:13It's hard to sit in church trying to fake it. You got to be careful what you're
- 26:19saying, what you're doing.
- 26:21But for the child of God, it's a place of rest. It's a place of worship.
- 26:26He said, these children, these things I've written that you may know and believe.
- 26:33You're not fooling anyone. You don't even fool yourself. You know whether you believe or not.
- 26:39Porture has one of the scariest accounts when he says, there'll be those that he says, depart from me.
- 26:50I never knew you, you workers of iniquity.
- 26:56It's time you stop playing the game, because he stands with his arms open wide.
- 27:02It requires a personal relationship, a personal commitment, a personal faith.
- 27:07You don't get saved on the faith of your family.
- 27:11You don't get saved on the faith that is expressed in your church house.
- 27:16You don't get saved because you read a book, raise your hand,
- 27:22or squeeze someone's hand.
- 27:25You get saved because you believe in Jesus Christ, and you deny yourself,
- 27:34and you place all your faith in a God that cannot fail.
- 27:40Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
- 27:46Remember you are loved. Jesus loves you.
