- 1:53Speaker 8: my money, my life, over.
- 1:55Speaker 7: Anything ever again.
- 1:59Speaker 8: So now in control of my business, I'm in control
- 2:03Speaker 8: of my life. And it's mandatory that I learned more
- 2:06Speaker 8: about finance business, you know, so I don't ever have
- 2:10Speaker 8: to be robbed again by you know, maybe somebody you
- 2:13Speaker 8: think you can trust.
- 2:16Speaker 9: My graduates from my school being forced backdrop bang drop, Mike,

- 2:48Speaker 6: now if you can, if possible, we don't want to
- 2:52Speaker 6: block anybody's you. I would just ask everybody one one thing. Obviously,
- 2:59Speaker 6: this is one of the greatest entertainer, is one of
- 3:02Speaker 6: the icons of our generation, of any generation.
- 3:10Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 3:13Speaker 6: Let's get into it, Mary, I want to talk about
- 3:16Speaker 6: this right strength of a woman festival. It's not something
- 3:20Speaker 6: that is easy to put together when you're talking about
- 3:23Speaker 6: selling out shows and eighteen thousand people and you got
- 3:26Speaker 6: business vendors and you got multiple different things. So what
- 3:30Speaker 6: was the thought process and putting together this festival and
- 3:36Speaker 6: what was the commitment on the time, financial relationships that
- 3:40Speaker 6: it took to put this together.
- 3:43Speaker 7: What a thought.
- 3:43Speaker 8: Process came from just performing and just watching the women
- 3:51Speaker 8: in the audience, how they just you know, love and
- 3:56Speaker 8: respect me and love how my music has done so
- 4:01Speaker 8: much for them, and just watching them just sometimes it
- 4:05Speaker 8: just was mind blowing how they just people are crying
- 4:08Speaker 8: and passing out and it just touched my heart. And
- 4:12Speaker 8: so to see us all in one room loving on
- 4:17Speaker 8: each other because of you know, you know me, because
- 4:21Speaker 8: of this performance, or because of all the trials and
- 4:24Speaker 8: tribulations and things that I've come through. My music is
- 4:28Speaker 8: a movement that has touched so many women and saved
- 4:31Speaker 8: so many lives.
- 4:32Speaker 7: And so the Summit is about that.
- 4:36Speaker 8: The Summit is about what the music has done, you know,
- 4:39Speaker 8: uplifting and encouraging and inspiring and bringing us all together
- 4:43Speaker 8: to love on each other and to learn self love
- 4:46Speaker 8: and self awareness and entrepreneurship. And you know, just so
- 4:51Speaker 8: that was the idea. It came from the concert, and
- 4:55Speaker 8: so here we are. It started as a meeting on
- 5:02Speaker 8: the roof of the Waldorf, a story in la between
- 5:07Speaker 8: me and my team, and within the next year it
- 5:12Speaker 8: was up and running. So PEPSI and Live Nation Urban
- 5:18Speaker 8: our partners in this, and.
- 5:20Speaker 7: They came through.
- 5:20Speaker 8: And you know, I really don't have too much more
- 5:23Speaker 8: to say except for here we are right now because
- 5:27Speaker 8: of the Mary J.
- 5:28Speaker 7: Blige movement. This is all because of.
- 5:31Speaker 8: The thirty something years that I've been in the music business.
- 5:35Speaker 5: And yeah, the Queen, the Queen, the Queen.
- 5:38Speaker 4: I mean we've sold it to you before, but being
- 5:41Speaker 4: kids from west Chester County.
- 5:43Speaker 5: Nine one four, I forgot to mention that, Yeah.
- 5:47Speaker 4: I mean, watching your thirty year career, we've watched you
- 5:50Speaker 4: as a singer, as an entertainer, as an actress. Now,
- 5:54Speaker 4: I wonder when it's switched to your a click to
- 5:56Speaker 4: you to say, you know what, I'm a talent in
- 5:58Speaker 4: front of the camera, but I want to be known
- 6:01Speaker 4: as a talent behind the camera.
- 6:03Speaker 5: Creating your own record label, having your own production.
- 6:05Speaker 4: We sort of preview for the movies that are coming
- 6:08Speaker 4: out in a few weeks. When did that go off?
- 6:11Speaker 4: And you know what, I want to do something bigger.
- 6:13Speaker 4: I want to be more than just a talent in front.
- 6:15Speaker 4: I want to be the one behind as well.
- 6:16Speaker 8: Well for me, it's never like always I want to
- 6:18Speaker 8: do something bigger.
- 6:19Speaker 7: It's just observing.
- 6:20Speaker 8: How you know, I wanted to have I wanted to
- 6:24Speaker 8: be in production, to be a producer, to create more
- 6:29Speaker 8: content for our culture because we never get a chance to,
- 6:34Speaker 8: you know, control the narrative of how we're looked at,
- 6:37Speaker 8: you know, And so that's what being a producer, you know,
- 6:40Speaker 8: is about. That's why I wanted to be a producer.
- 6:45Speaker 8: That's why I create a Blue Butterfly. And so we
- 6:47Speaker 8: can tell stories like the clock Sisters, you know, have
- 6:50Speaker 8: them tell their story, have women tell their stories, have
- 6:53Speaker 8: us as black people uplifted in a better light other
- 6:58Speaker 8: than just being you know, rug dealers and whatever.
- 7:01Speaker 7: The case may be.
- 7:02Speaker 8: You have, you know, the these two Lifetime movies that
- 7:06Speaker 8: I'm doing right now, and these This woman is you know,
- 7:09Speaker 8: Real Love that is one of the movies. And she's
- 7:12Speaker 8: in college, you know, and and she beats her boyfriend
- 7:15Speaker 8: in college.
- 7:16Speaker 7: And so I never went to college.
- 7:18Speaker 8: So I wanted people to see that that's that's possible,
- 7:21Speaker 8: and that's why I'm creating that. That's why I wanted
- 7:23Speaker 8: to be a producer, to just create more better content
- 7:27Speaker 8: for our culture.
- 7:33Speaker 6: So you're obviously extremely talented on the music side, but
- 7:36Speaker 6: when you're acting, right, anybody a fan of the Power series?
- 7:47Speaker 5: A few people watch.
- 7:48Speaker 6: It, I see, So how is that different for you
- 7:53Speaker 6: acting as opposed to singing? And which one do you
- 7:59Speaker 6: like or what's the differences that you like about you?
- 8:01Speaker 8: You can't compare them because singing is something I've been
- 8:03Speaker 8: doing all my life. It's easy, that's that's that's that's
- 8:07Speaker 8: who I am, That's what I do. But acting is
- 8:09Speaker 8: hard because you have to take something that's on a
- 8:12Speaker 8: piece of paper, that are words and turn them into
- 8:15Speaker 8: a character. So and what's really hard about it for
- 8:19Speaker 8: me is I have to for this character. I have
- 8:22Speaker 8: to dig in some really dark places to go murder
- 8:25Speaker 8: these people and you know, choke my kids and all
- 8:27Speaker 8: that stuff.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, we saw, we saw yeah about that.
- 8:37Speaker 7: Yeah, so yeah. I mean it's it's a challenge.
- 8:40Speaker 8: It's a challenge, but I love a challenge and I
- 8:42Speaker 8: want to perfect the craft even more because I haven't
- 8:45Speaker 8: reached the point in my acting career where I'm like, gosh,
- 8:49Speaker 8: I love when I did that. You know, I'm still like, gosh,
- 8:52Speaker 8: I could have.
- 8:53Speaker 7: Did that better. Oh that feels funny, you know.
- 8:56Speaker 8: So I want to perfect the craft even more, you know,
- 8:59Speaker 8: to when I look at it Angela Bassett, you know
- 9:03Speaker 8: I feel like that, like, oh like, look like how.
- 9:05Speaker 5: She did that?
- 9:06Speaker 7: You know, I see what I'm saying.
- 9:08Speaker 4: When you walk in these rooms, how is it? Do
- 9:11Speaker 4: you want to be respected as married Jay the actor
- 9:14Speaker 4: or the talent that we know, the queen of RB?
- 9:17Speaker 5: How does that? How do you approach it? Well?
- 9:18Speaker 7: I approach it like this.
- 9:19Speaker 5: You know.
- 9:19Speaker 8: Immediately they're like, oh, let's let's let's let's let us sing.
- 9:23Speaker 7: No, I'm acting. I don't want to sing.
- 9:26Speaker 8: If I'm singing, I'm singing if I'm acting and acting,
- 9:27Speaker 8: I want people to respect me as an actress. You know,
- 9:30Speaker 8: It's it's two different things you're gonna you know.
- 9:33Speaker 6: Yeah, have you talked about Angela Bassett and have you
- 9:38Speaker 6: had any mentors in Hollywood that have helped you?
- 9:41Speaker 5: And if so, what are some people?
- 9:43Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean I have friends that are super amazing actresses, Taraji,
- 9:50Speaker 8: Queen Latifa, Angela Bassett, Tasha Smith. They they are so
- 9:55Speaker 8: confident in what they do.
- 9:56Speaker 7: They call.
- 9:56Speaker 8: When I called them, I say, yo, I need help.
- 9:58Speaker 8: They give me all the tools. I learned so much
- 10:01Speaker 8: from Taraji. I learned so much from Queen Latifa and
- 10:05Speaker 8: Angela Bassett. Tasha Smith was my acting coach for it
- 10:10Speaker 8: still is and one of my really good friends. So yeah,
- 10:13Speaker 8: you know, I have even even on Biola. You know,
- 10:17Speaker 8: when I see her, she's like, keep going, You're doing great.
- 10:20Speaker 6: You know.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, you talking about mentorship and acting. But I mean,
- 10:25Speaker 4: the last time we spoke, you were telling us about
- 10:26Speaker 4: mentorship and business and so a lot of times you
- 10:29Speaker 4: get invited to rooms and if you don't know the person,
- 10:32Speaker 4: I got to figure out who these people are because
- 10:34Speaker 4: there's a reason they're in the room and the reason.
- 10:36Speaker 4: There's a reason I'm in the room. So let's talk
- 10:38Speaker 4: about the spirits industry, right, because you have some goddess
- 10:42Speaker 4: and you have sister love jewelry. Where did that spark
- 10:45Speaker 4: in the interest in the spirits world come from?
- 10:47Speaker 7: What a spark came from? I was on tour with Maxwell.
- 10:50Speaker 8: Maxwell is a really good friend of mine, and Maxwell
- 10:54Speaker 8: was about to put his own line out, and he
- 10:57Speaker 8: took me to dinner with him and some Italian people.
- 11:03Speaker 5: Oh there they they we call him they.
- 11:10Speaker 8: And I was guzzling Santa Margherita Piina Gricio, like you know,
- 11:15Speaker 8: and they were like, Maddy wants you to know, do
- 11:17Speaker 8: your own wine. And I didn't blink, got in study.
- 11:20Speaker 8: I said absolutely, one hundred percent. And right after that,
- 11:24Speaker 8: maybe like three weeks later, while I was on tour
- 11:26Speaker 8: with Maxwell, I found myself on a plane too freely
- 11:30Speaker 8: Italy to meet Marco Fantineo and we touched down to
- 11:33Speaker 8: his place and his whole place was the winery and
- 11:36Speaker 8: the rest is history.
- 11:37Speaker 6: You know.
- 11:38Speaker 8: We we put the wine out during the first quarantine
- 11:43Speaker 8: of COVID when everybody was drinking, and we.
- 11:49Speaker 5: They remember then, remember very well.
- 11:52Speaker 8: We sold it. We sold it on wine dot com.
- 11:56Speaker 8: It was sold out. Every single it was just sold out,
- 11:59Speaker 8: you know, and so we knew. You know what, my
- 12:03Speaker 8: people what I love about them. They're honest and if
- 12:05Speaker 8: it's whack as whack, if it's nasty, it's nasty. They
- 12:08Speaker 8: took they were going crazy over it. So they gave me,
- 12:11Speaker 8: you know, people that bought the wine gave me the
- 12:13Speaker 8: court the confidence to keep going. And it just keeps
- 12:15Speaker 8: growing and growing and growing and growing. So yeah, that's
- 12:18Speaker 8: that's where that came from.
- 12:19Speaker 6: We actually tasted the wine. Our friend and your good friend,
- 12:22Speaker 6: Angie Martinez. Yeah, invite us to forty forty and we
- 12:26Speaker 6: had to sample it, of course, and it's actually extremely good.
- 12:31Speaker 6: I'm not even a wine connoisseur. I don't like wine,
- 12:33Speaker 6: but thank you. I stamp your wine.
- 12:36Speaker 8: Well, now we have a we have a prosecco, we
- 12:39Speaker 8: have a prosecco rose, we have them are Low and
- 12:43Speaker 8: we have a Solve Young Blanc and of course you
- 12:45Speaker 8: know the Pinagregient over model Rose the wine actual wine.
- 12:49Speaker 8: So it's just growing and growing and growing in the middle.
- 12:51Speaker 8: We're gonna have it in little bottles with little straws.
- 12:56Speaker 5: In the suns. So let me ask you this.
- 12:59Speaker 6: For people in the audience that are in entertainment or entrepreneurs,
- 13:04Speaker 6: the hardest thing to do is to know when it's
- 13:06Speaker 6: time to do something else, right, because you don't want
- 13:09Speaker 6: to just run into things. So how do you know
- 13:12Speaker 6: when it's time to start a new business in a
- 13:15Speaker 6: new industry.
- 13:17Speaker 8: I don't think you never really know when it's time
- 13:20Speaker 8: because ideas something could come right now, you know, and
- 13:24Speaker 8: I do one thing at a time, and then as
- 13:27Speaker 8: I keep going, every you know, it grows. So I
- 13:31Speaker 8: don't think, well, for me, it's not like, oh, it's
- 13:33Speaker 8: time to do something. When it comes, it comes. You know,
- 13:38Speaker 8: it's never really a plan. It's just organic. And then
- 13:43Speaker 8: when it comes, then you start planning and you start strategizing.
- 13:47Speaker 7: So it's always creative for me.
- 13:49Speaker 8: When it flows, it flows, when it comes, it comes,
- 13:52Speaker 8: and then I bring it, you know, to the team,
- 13:54Speaker 8: and then you know, like that, I mean for me,
- 13:58Speaker 8: that's that's how it goes.
- 13:59Speaker 5: For me.
- 14:00Speaker 4: It's interesting because as you get more creative and more
- 14:02Speaker 4: business opportunities come to you. And it's something that we've
- 14:04Speaker 4: kind of experienced is a lot of business opportunities will come,
- 14:07Speaker 4: but we just don't have the bandwidth ourselves to do it.
- 14:10Speaker 4: And so do you look at each opportunity as a
- 14:13Speaker 4: way to now build another team and employ more people?
- 14:18Speaker 5: How do you look at the opportunities from this landscape
- 14:20Speaker 5: up that's.
- 14:21Speaker 8: Going to help to build more team definitely, to employ
- 14:25Speaker 8: employ more people, to keep people employed, and to just
- 14:30Speaker 8: keep make it where. You know, I have revenue stream
- 14:35Speaker 8: while I'm sleeping, you know what I'm saying, And the
- 14:37Speaker 8: money is not just not working work and working so hard,
- 14:41Speaker 8: and you know, one day I'll just be you know, sleeping,
- 14:46Speaker 8: a billion dollar check would come, you know, because I
- 14:48Speaker 8: have businesses out there, they're going. So everything is a
- 14:51Speaker 8: plan for the future, the plans to just not have
- 14:54Speaker 8: to work so hard.
- 14:55Speaker 7: I hope I answered the question.
- 14:57Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, So let me ask you this you've talked
- 15:01Speaker 6: about in the past where you had to go on
- 15:04Speaker 6: tour to pay alimony, yeah, to your ex husband. I
- 15:07Speaker 6: don't know if the numbers correct at Google. I saw
- 15:09Speaker 6: it was like thirty thousand a month or something like that.
- 15:11Speaker 4: Yeah, correct us if we're wrong.
- 15:15Speaker 6: So, looking back on it in hindsight, what would you
- 15:20Speaker 6: have done differently when you first got married in terms
- 15:24Speaker 6: of shielding your assets.
- 15:28Speaker 8: I would have never let a person have that much
- 15:32Speaker 8: power over my money, my life, over anything ever again,
- 15:40Speaker 8: So I would.
- 15:42Speaker 5: I would.
- 15:43Speaker 8: Now I'm learning, I'm in control of my business, I'm
- 15:47Speaker 8: in control of my life, and it's mandatory that I
- 15:52Speaker 8: learned more about finance business, you know, so I don't
- 15:55Speaker 8: ever have to be robbed again by you know, maybe
- 15:59Speaker 8: somebody you think you can trust, you.
- 16:01Speaker 7: Know what I mean.
- 16:01Speaker 6: So do you think that it was more so just
- 16:04Speaker 6: a lack of education, somebody.
- 16:05Speaker 5: Playing on you not knowing things, and then purposely.
- 16:10Speaker 8: Yes, it was a lack of education, and it also
- 16:13Speaker 8: was just trusting people to help you when you don't know,
- 16:17Speaker 8: and you hope that they're going to help you and
- 16:19Speaker 8: not steal from you and lie to you, and and
- 16:22Speaker 8: and and and.
- 16:24Speaker 7: Just trying to take control over your life.
- 16:27Speaker 8: So yeah, exactly, you hope that people would help you
- 16:33Speaker 8: when you don't know, and a lot of times what
- 16:37Speaker 8: happened to me, they.
- 16:39Speaker 7: Rob you, you know.
- 16:40Speaker 8: So it's best to get education so you don't have
- 16:44Speaker 8: to depend on anybody to control your money or to
- 16:49Speaker 8: help you, you know, you know, to to help you
- 16:51Speaker 8: keep your money in a safe place.
- 16:54Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying, yeah.
- 16:56Speaker 5: Keeping you.
- 16:56Speaker 4: I mean, we spoke about this a little bit earlier
- 16:58Speaker 4: before you came on. It's important and to make money,
- 17:00Speaker 4: but it's more important to keep the money.
- 17:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 17:03Speaker 4: And so we've had plenty of conversations and people in
- 17:06Speaker 4: entertainment and the one thing that they always talk about
- 17:08Speaker 4: in Fat Joe spoke about it, Steve Harvey spoken candly
- 17:11Speaker 4: about it.
- 17:11Speaker 5: It's paying taxes.
- 17:13Speaker 8: Yes, so shut it out speaking of taxes. I owe
- 17:19Speaker 8: so much money. I never thought I was ever going
- 17:23Speaker 8: to get out of debt. I'm out of debt now.
- 17:25Speaker 5: Money.
- 17:26Speaker 4: It comes with a lot of questions. How do I save?
- 17:28Speaker 4: Where should I invest? Can I build wealth to pass on?
- 17:31Speaker 4: It's hard to know where to get the answers. That's

- 20:09Speaker 1: An illegal alien from Guatemala charged with raping a child
- 20:13Speaker 1: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 20:17Speaker 1: accused of murdering a Texas man of Venezuelan charged with
- 20:21Speaker 1: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 20:25Speaker 1: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 20:29Speaker 1: Donald J.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Trump's leadership.
- 20:31Speaker 1: I'm Christy Noman, the United States Secretary of Homeland Security.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Under President Trump, attempted illegal border crossings are at the
- 20:38Speaker 1: lowest levels ever recorded, and over one hundred thousand illegal
- 20:42Speaker 1: aliens have been arrested. If you are here illegally, your
- 20:46Speaker 1: next you will be fined nearly one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned,
- 20:51Speaker 1: and deported.
- 20:52Speaker 2: You will never return.
- 20:53Speaker 1: But if you register using our CBP home app and
- 20:56Speaker 1: leave now, you could be allowed.
- 20:58Speaker 2: To return legally. Do what's right. Leave now.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Under President Trump, America's laws order and families will be protected.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
- 21:10Speaker 10: But I mean I owed millions, millions, like hundreds of
- 21:17Speaker 10: millions of dollars in taxes, and.
- 21:22Speaker 8: I think, right, you know, I'm sorry, I lost my
- 21:26Speaker 8: train of thought, go back to that.
- 21:28Speaker 5: So I was right, we were gonna get to that.
- 21:29Speaker 4: So the lack of education around that, right, as you're
- 21:32Speaker 4: getting this large sum of money and you accumulating give right,
- 21:35Speaker 4: how are we even getting educated who are we surrounding
- 21:38Speaker 4: ourselves to protect ourselves, to make sure that we are paying.
- 21:40Speaker 5: Tax Is it a financially somebody in our team.
- 21:43Speaker 8: A great business management team, and you have to have
- 21:47Speaker 8: Now I have the wisdom. Now I look at my payroll.
- 21:50Speaker 8: That's not my money. My taxes are not my money.
- 21:52Speaker 8: My times are not my money. So I'm like, pay
- 21:55Speaker 8: my pay pay my business, pay my payroll, pay my taxes,
- 22:00Speaker 8: pay my times, any all of that money. I don't
- 22:04Speaker 8: even want to see it because it doesn't belong to me.
- 22:08Speaker 8: And that's how I was moving period. I was moving
- 22:12Speaker 8: like that period, but nobody listened to me. When I
- 22:15Speaker 8: was married, I was like, pay my taxes, pay my times.
- 22:17Speaker 7: Do everything.
- 22:18Speaker 8: And then you know, they didn't listen to me, so,
- 22:22Speaker 8: you know, but he was in control of everything, so
- 22:26Speaker 8: he wasn't gonna you know, we don't want to do
- 22:28Speaker 8: all of that, but you know, that's that's how I do.
- 22:31Speaker 8: Those things are important to me. Payroll, taxes, times, anything that.
- 22:37Speaker 8: You know, if anyone's doing a service, you have to
- 22:40Speaker 8: pay them for it, you know, and you have to
- 22:43Speaker 8: call people back. You know, sometimes people just want to
- 22:47Speaker 8: you know what, Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna, I'm gonna get.
- 22:52Speaker 7: Back to you.
- 22:52Speaker 8: It's not always so much about you know, people vendors
- 22:55Speaker 8: beating your door down because they you know, they're just
- 22:58Speaker 8: being aggravated. They just want to know that you are
- 23:02Speaker 8: acknowledging them if you owe them money.
- 23:05Speaker 7: You understand what I'm saying.
- 23:06Speaker 8: So if you don't call people back, you know, it
- 23:09Speaker 8: creates a bad image for you. It creates, you know,
- 23:13Speaker 8: chatter that you don't handle do business properly.
- 23:16Speaker 7: You understand what I'm saying. So, yeah, those things are
- 23:19Speaker 7: important to me now.
- 23:21Speaker 5: So this is strength of a woman's festival.
- 23:25Speaker 6: And a lot of times when we think about pre numps,
- 23:30Speaker 6: it's always from a man's perspective, Like a man wants
- 23:33Speaker 6: his wife to sign a pre nump before they get
- 23:35Speaker 6: married because he has more money.
- 23:36Speaker 5: But there's not always the case.
- 23:38Speaker 6: Sometimes in your situation, the woman could be the breadwinner
- 23:42Speaker 6: or the woman can have more money. So what are
- 23:44Speaker 6: your thoughts on pre numps and how would you approach
- 23:48Speaker 6: you or what advice would you give as far as
- 23:50Speaker 6: for a woman that may be wealthy, well off and
- 23:54Speaker 6: they're looking to get married, get a pre.
- 23:57Speaker 8: Nump because I didn't have one.
- 24:02Speaker 7: And that's why I was.
- 24:03Speaker 8: I ended up having to just give everything away because
- 24:08Speaker 8: it's so let me just speak, it's so whack right
- 24:12Speaker 8: now that men you know can come ask you and
- 24:18Speaker 8: get and you know, you know, and get alimony. So
- 24:21Speaker 8: when I was getting a divorced, I was like, you
- 24:24Speaker 8: mean to tell me I got to pay him? And
- 24:27Speaker 8: he cheated and he lied and he stolen, you know,
- 24:30Speaker 8: not to get all petty, but you know what I'm saying.
- 24:33Speaker 8: You mean, I gotta pay him for cheating and line
- 24:36Speaker 8: or to me and ruining my life. So yeah, and
- 24:39Speaker 8: and and the law is you have to you know,
- 24:42Speaker 8: so I say, get a pre nup, cover yourself up.
- 24:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm telling you men, it's crazy.
- 24:54Speaker 5: May my wife is here, so baby, I love you.
- 24:58Speaker 4: But uh so you said you're debt free, and we
- 25:00Speaker 4: see the success of strength of a woman. We're talking
- 25:03Speaker 4: about the spirits industry. But something monumental is happening in
- 25:06Speaker 4: your music career. You're now an independent artist. So let's
- 25:10Speaker 4: talk congratulations. I mean, let's talk about that. Let's talk
- 25:17Speaker 4: about the feeling the prompt to you know, how you
- 25:19Speaker 4: feeling about this.
- 25:20Speaker 8: I feel like like I'm flying sometimes because I was
- 25:26Speaker 8: so low. I felt like I had anchors, and you know,
- 25:28Speaker 8: I just was low and I felt like I owed
- 25:31Speaker 8: everybody everything. And now I don't owe a label nothing.
- 25:34Speaker 8: I just put music out. I could just do whatever
- 25:38Speaker 8: I want. It's liberating.
- 25:40Speaker 5: Hey, DJ, you're supposed to drop just fine. When I
- 25:43Speaker 5: asked how some feeling.
- 25:46Speaker 6: So as far as a lot of artists these days
- 25:50Speaker 6: are selling their catalogs, that's like very popular, right, how
- 25:55Speaker 6: do you feel about that?
- 25:56Speaker 5: And would you sell your catalog?
- 26:03Speaker 7: Absolutely not, No, it's too valuable.
- 26:10Speaker 6: So when you say it's too valuable, too valuable from
- 26:14Speaker 6: just you personally, or too valuable as far as there's
- 26:17Speaker 6: not money this, you got to come with.
- 26:19Speaker 5: Billions of dollars for your catalog.
- 26:21Speaker 7: I don't think the catalog.
- 26:25Speaker 8: Once you sell it, you're going to spend that billion
- 26:27Speaker 8: dollars and you'll never be able to get those babies back.
- 26:31Speaker 8: Like those are my babies. They literally came out of
- 26:33Speaker 8: my womb. I'm not gonna you know, you know, maybe
- 26:37Speaker 8: later when I get older, you know what I'm saying,
- 26:40Speaker 8: But you know right now I wouldn't do that.
- 26:44Speaker 5: No.
- 26:47Speaker 4: So I see there's a lot of brands that are
- 26:49Speaker 4: here Pepsi being one of them.
- 26:52Speaker 5: We talked about Live Nation Urban.
- 26:53Speaker 4: When you're looking for a strategic business partner, what are
- 26:56Speaker 4: you looking for in a brand that is a qualified
- 27:00Speaker 4: and to work with somebody of your caliber?
- 27:04Speaker 8: The first thing is do you know me? Because you
- 27:08Speaker 8: can't help me sell me if you don't know me.
- 27:10Speaker 8: You can't sell anything from my brand if you don't
- 27:12Speaker 8: know me. So the first thing is, do you know
- 27:15Speaker 8: Mary J.
- 27:16Speaker 7: Blige? What is she about?
- 27:18Speaker 8: Because then you're gonna you're gonna be full, You're gonna
- 27:21Speaker 8: be all the way in with me, and you're gonna
- 27:23Speaker 8: go hard with me to get to get things sold,
- 27:26Speaker 8: you know, or to market me the right way, or
- 27:29Speaker 8: to market whatever we're marketing for Mary J.
- 27:31Speaker 7: Bligerberg. So the first thing is.
- 27:33Speaker 8: Do you You gotta know you gotta you gotta have history.
- 27:35Speaker 7: You gotta know the history of me so we can
- 27:38Speaker 7: do the business.
- 27:40Speaker 6: So we was with the good Brother Swiss a couple
- 27:43Speaker 6: of weeks ago and we had a conversation about you
- 27:47Speaker 6: versus would you do it? Versus No? Why not? Why
- 27:57Speaker 6: would you not want to do that?
- 27:58Speaker 8: I just want let me just say I love Swiss
- 28:02Speaker 8: that I mean, I love Swiss that's my friend, that's
- 28:05Speaker 8: up my brother, that's up my people. I just don't
- 28:08Speaker 8: care about my verses. I don't want to be up
- 28:10Speaker 8: there who got the film? And it's no disrespect. I
- 28:17Speaker 8: just don't care. Like I don't need to say I
- 28:20Speaker 8: had to. I know I have some of the hottest records.
- 28:22Speaker 8: I know I got a crazy catalog. I don't need
- 28:26Speaker 8: to be like your record my record sension.
- 28:29Speaker 5: Well, let me ask you.
- 28:30Speaker 6: Let me ask you this just from an admiration standpoint,
- 28:34Speaker 6: if you ever had to dance with somebody, who do
- 28:37Speaker 6: you have anybody that you would say this is a
- 28:40Speaker 6: counterpart that I really appreciate their music and I would
- 28:43Speaker 6: love to have some level of it.
- 28:44Speaker 8: And it's so many people that have great music out there.
- 28:46Speaker 8: I mean, it's so many women that have just catalogs.
- 28:50Speaker 5: You know.
- 28:51Speaker 7: So I mean, I don't have to.
- 28:53Speaker 8: I don't like the putting everybody up against each other
- 28:57Speaker 8: the right like, I don't like it. I mean, and
- 29:00Speaker 8: I could just put my shirt on and just walk away.
- 29:03Speaker 8: I could put take that, I could put the onst
- 29:09Speaker 8: the full on one album on and just walk away.
- 29:13Speaker 4: I'm gonna be honest with you and thank you for
- 29:15Speaker 4: protecting me because I mentioned somebody.
- 29:17Speaker 5: He protected me, Thank you for Shad.
- 29:18Speaker 4: But we had my co with us and he was like,
- 29:23Speaker 4: I haven't really seen Mary perform. I said, listen, you
- 29:26Speaker 4: gotta go to a show and let I'm going down.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Come on and just look around and watch what happens
- 29:32Speaker 4: to the audience. Y'all know, yeah, crazy, We saw a
- 29:36Speaker 4: little bit of it last night.
- 29:37Speaker 5: Arn is what's going on.
- 29:38Speaker 4: Listen, eylu is relaunching, revamping, retooling. That's why we're creating
- 29:43Speaker 4: a new educational experience that's more expensive.
- 29:46Speaker 6: Telling we god Yes, twenty twenty three, we got a
- 29:49Speaker 6: lot of store, a lot playing for you guys.
- 29:52Speaker 5: So you know that eyou already includes.
- 29:54Speaker 6: Monthly financial planning calls with me, book club calls with
- 29:57Speaker 6: Troy real Estate called the MGA. Moore just got access
- 30:01Speaker 6: to the Home Buying Blueprint Volume one and volume two.
- 30:04Speaker 6: Part of the revamp will include twenty seven local chapters
- 30:08Speaker 6: from across the United States, live interactive teaching, hands on
- 30:12Speaker 6: not just pre recorded videos, plus fifteen brand new curriculums.
- 30:18Speaker 5: The biggest just got bigger.
- 30:20Speaker 3: Head over to e y l University dot com.
- 30:23Speaker 4: That's EYL you n I V E R S I
- 30:28Speaker 4: T Y dot com.
- 30:31Speaker 5: See you there. So shout out to the four one one,
- 30:33Speaker 5: shout out to share my out, shout out to all
- 30:35Speaker 5: the albums number one, thank you. But you brought up
- 30:38Speaker 5: the four one one and so many.
- 30:39Speaker 4: It made me think about this guy who was intricral
- 30:42Speaker 4: in that process. Buff and outside of the music, he's
- 30:47Speaker 4: been a major figure in life, especially in the world
- 30:51Speaker 4: of business. Can you talk about some of the mentorship
- 30:53Speaker 4: he's given you outside of music.
- 30:56Speaker 8: I mean, let me just start from the beginning. When
- 30:59Speaker 8: I met Puff, he was ambitious, a go get it
- 31:02Speaker 8: and I was just a little girl from Slovan that
- 31:06Speaker 8: was scared of success. But this man wasn't scared of
- 31:08Speaker 8: no success. He wasn't scared to be fly, he wasn't
- 31:12Speaker 8: scared to be seen, and he was the opposite of
- 31:15Speaker 8: everything that I was. So just watching him was encouraging
- 31:20Speaker 8: to me and taught me a lot. And he was
- 31:23Speaker 8: always about he wanted the success more than we wanted it.
- 31:28Speaker 8: He wanted our success for us more than we wanted it. So,
- 31:32Speaker 8: I mean, he just gave me a lot of confidence.
- 31:35Speaker 7: And you know, and and and and at.
- 31:37Speaker 8: That time, you know, he gave me a lot of
- 31:39Speaker 8: confidence in my music.
- 31:40Speaker 7: And you know, he was like a, Yo, you're gonna
- 31:42Speaker 7: get out there and bust a ass. You're gonna get
- 31:44Speaker 7: out there. Yo, you wanna do And it was just
- 31:47Speaker 7: like okay, okay, okay, okay, okay.
- 31:49Speaker 5: So he made me.
- 31:50Speaker 8: But my personality was very like like this. But he
- 31:54Speaker 8: really helped me a lot. He really, you know, picked
- 31:57Speaker 8: a lot of the right, you know, samples for together.
- 32:00Speaker 7: We did a lot. I mean, it wasn't no, you know,
- 32:02Speaker 7: just organic.
- 32:03Speaker 8: And he was just puff daddy, like the same puff
- 32:07Speaker 8: daddy you see today. He's the same puff daddy he
- 32:10Speaker 8: was then, and he was so he wanted it for Mary,
- 32:14Speaker 8: for Joe to see, for all of us, more than
- 32:17Speaker 8: we even wanted it. So man, you know that's that's
- 32:21Speaker 8: you know, yeah, he helped me sustain.
- 32:25Speaker 6: So your music has become the soundtrack to millions of
- 32:29Speaker 6: people's lives, millions of women's lives from the downs from
- 32:33Speaker 6: ninety two to twenty twenty three. When you go to
- 32:36Speaker 6: all around the world, how does that feel when they
- 32:40Speaker 6: connect with you on a different level. It's like a
- 32:41Speaker 6: spiritual level, like you've helped guide them through you know,
- 32:45Speaker 6: heartbreak and breakups. And divorce. How does that feel for
- 32:50Speaker 6: you to play that role?
- 32:52Speaker 8: It feels good and it's a responsibility because I'm not
- 32:55Speaker 8: doing anything special.
- 32:57Speaker 7: I'm just falling and getting back up. That's it.
- 33:00Speaker 8: I'm just falling. I'm getting back up, and am I
- 33:04Speaker 8: getting back up? Sometimes I'm laying down longer than what
- 33:06Speaker 8: I'm supposed to, But I get up and I come
- 33:10Speaker 8: out on the other side.
- 33:11Speaker 7: And so that's really all I've done, you know.
- 33:14Speaker 8: So I say, when people like you saved my life,
- 33:18Speaker 8: I'll be like, well, you really need to give that
- 33:19Speaker 8: credit to God for giving me the strength to get
- 33:22Speaker 8: back up.
- 33:26Speaker 4: So we talked about the spirits, we talked about the production,
- 33:29Speaker 4: we talked about the acting. Obviously, the talent in the
- 33:33Speaker 4: field of singing. I'm looking that down food to your right,
- 33:36Speaker 4: and I'm thinking to myself, if Don's in the room,
- 33:39Speaker 4: there's more business to come. And so I'm wondering one
- 33:41Speaker 4: hundred all right, we know, So what else is on
- 33:46Speaker 4: the vision board for the Mary J.
- 33:48Speaker 5: Blige Empire? What else is on the vision board? Like?
- 33:51Speaker 5: What else do you see?
- 33:52Speaker 4: Like that's something I want to tackle that I want
- 33:54Speaker 4: to get involved in that business, or that's something that
- 33:57Speaker 4: I can see I can add to the portfolio.
- 33:59Speaker 7: The boots are coming.
- 34:04Speaker 8: Everybody's like, what's up with the book? Hey, hey, that's
- 34:07Speaker 8: the next thing. I said, the boots, Yes, the book line.
- 34:11Speaker 4: The dancing is so separately, though, I said, the dancing
- 34:14Speaker 4: is so separately.
- 34:14Speaker 5: Everybody can't dance like you in the boots.
- 34:18Speaker 7: We're not talking about the dancing. Were talking about the
- 34:20Speaker 7: boot line right now.
- 34:29Speaker 8: I just want to get that going because everybody you
- 34:33Speaker 8: know really want it.
- 34:35Speaker 6: So what are some of the biggest lessons in business
- 34:40Speaker 6: and just in general that you've learned over your thirty
- 34:42Speaker 6: year career.
- 34:44Speaker 8: Take care of yourself, do I mean, go behind everybody,
- 34:51Speaker 8: check in on your business, check in on yourself. Just
- 34:54Speaker 8: make sure you are in on every single thing. And
- 34:58Speaker 8: if they don't know you, then they can identify you.
- 35:01Speaker 8: If they can't, if they don't have no history on
- 35:03Speaker 8: you and what you're doing, they can't help you.
- 35:06Speaker 7: So that's really it. Just take care of you.
- 35:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 35:11Speaker 4: Now, and I'm sure there's plenty of women in here,
- 35:12Speaker 4: and we saw a lot of artists at the show
- 35:14Speaker 4: last night. Now that you have a label, are you
- 35:16Speaker 4: currently looking for talent to put on the label?
- 35:18Speaker 5: How does would somebody go about that?
- 35:21Speaker 8: Well, right, So let me give you the backstory on
- 35:24Speaker 8: why I'm just getting the label.
- 35:26Speaker 7: I tried to do it a long time ago.
- 35:28Speaker 8: And what I don't like doing is promising people things,
- 35:32Speaker 8: and I don't have the money to back it up.
- 35:34Speaker 8: So this is my first one more is my first
- 35:39Speaker 8: artists that I've signed, because now I have the money
- 35:44Speaker 8: to make their dreams come true. So I don't want
- 35:47Speaker 8: to have people come and be on my label and
