Transcript
- 0:00Welcome back to another episode of Spy Trader !
- 0:03I'm your host , Sunny SideUp , and it is a beautiful 2:30 pm on Friday , July 3rd , 2026 , here in the Pacific time zone .
- 0:13Even though the markets are closed today for the July 4th holiday observation , the financial world never truly sleeps , and we have plenty to unpack from yesterday's closing bell .
- 0:24We are seeing a real transition in the US stock market right now .
- 0:29Looking at the numbers from July 2nd , the S&P 500 , which many of you track through the SPY ETF , closed almost perfectly flat at 7,483.24 .
- 0:41It has been a great first half of the year with a ten percent gain , but right now we are in a bit of a consolidation phase .
- 0:48Meanwhile , the Dow Jones Industrial Average was the star of the show , rallying over one percent to a fresh record of 52,900.07 .
- 0:59On the flip side , the Nasdaq , or the QQQ , took a bit of a hit , falling nearly one percent to 25,382.67 .
- 1:09This tells us one thing : the Great Rotation is officially here .
- 1:13We are seeing money move out of those redhot semiconductors and into bluechip quality .
- 1:18For instance , Micron fell about ten percent this week and Nvidia is sitting around 194 dollars as investors take some profits .
- 1:27But it is not all bad for tech .
- 1:29Meta jumped over nine percent after announcing its new Meta Compute cloud service .
- 1:34The big story , though , is the AI Power Crunch .
- 1:38Companies like Bloom Energy are skyrocketing thanks to a massive 25 billion dollar partnership with Brookfield Asset Management to power data centers .
- 1:47Even Tesla had a wild ride ; they delivered a record 480,000 vehicles , but the stock still dropped seven and a half percent because people are worried about profit margins .
- 2:00Now , let us talk about the big picture .
- 2:02We have a new Federal Reserve Chair , Kevin Warsh , and he is bringing a hawkish tone to the table .
- 2:08With inflation at 4.2 percent and 10year Treasury yields up at 4.48 percent , there is talk of a rate hike in September .
- 2:16This is happening even as the July 2nd jobs report showed only 57,000 new jobs , which is much lower than expected .
- 2:25It is a tricky balance !
- 2:26So , what is the game plan for your portfolio ?
- 2:30I am recommending a Barbell Strategy .
- 2:33First , keep your core broad market exposure .
- 2:36Instruments like the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF , ticker VOO , or the iShares IVV are great holds .
- 2:44If the S&P dips toward 7,400 , that is your chance to accumulate more .
- 2:49Second , do not be afraid to buy the dip in AI infrastructure .
- 2:54Look at Bloom Energy , ticker BE , or the QQQ .
- 2:58While tech is cooling , the fundamentals for cloud services and power are still very strong .
- 3:04Third , it is time to look at Financials .
- 3:07The XLF ETF or a giant like JPMorgan Chase are looking attractive .
- 3:12With the Fed keeping rates higher for longer , banks like JPM are expected to show strong revenue in their upcoming earnings reports on July 14th .
- 3:22Finally , let us get a little defensive .
- 3:26Gold is looking good as an inflation hedge , so check out the SPDR Gold Shares , ticker GLD , which is trading near 4,100 dollars .
- 3:35You might also look at longterm bonds like TLT , but keep those positions small since interest rates are still so uncertain .
- 3:43That is all for this afternoon's update !
- 3:45Enjoy the holiday weekend , stay safe , and I will see you back here for the next Spy Trader update .
- 3:52Happy investing !
