Speaker 1: Mr Mars, this is Mr Britton Smith with Mazda.
• 1:24
Speaker 2: He's actually with Jeff Haas Mazda here in town Very good.
• 1:28
Speaker 3: But he knows everything there is to know about what Mazda's got here at this show.
• 1:32
Speaker 3: All righty, he told me, jeff.
• 1:34
  Speaker 1: Haas.
• 1:34
Speaker 1: Mazda has been around since the beginning of Mazda, which was born, I think, in 1900.
• 1:41
Speaker 2: Correct, mazda has himself.
• 1:43
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 1:44
Speaker 2: But you don't look that old.
• 1:45
Speaker 1: Where is Jeff Haas Mazda?
• 1:47
Speaker 2: We are off of I-10 in Barker Cypress over near Katy.
• 1:50
Speaker 1: I know exactly where you are.
• 1:51
Speaker 1: So that's sort of like an automobile row of I-10.
• 1:54
Speaker 1: Well, there's that and there's also right.
• 1:57
Speaker 1: He's just south of West Houston Airport.
• 2:00
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 2:03
Speaker 1: Yeah, right there by Bark barker reservoir.
• 2:04
Speaker 2: I know all that so when you get off your plane, you come right to the dealership there you go, fly in, drive out, fly right into the dealership.
• 2:11
Speaker 1: Right there we got a little landing strip in the back.
• 2:13
Speaker 1: Why didn't I think of that?
• 2:14
Speaker 1: Um, is your first name, britain, correct?
• 2:17
Speaker 2: like the country just sped a little differently interesting.
• 2:20
Speaker 1: So what were your parents thinking?
• 2:22
Speaker 2: uh well, my parents were thinking, well, how are we going to honor my grandmother?
• 2:25
Speaker 2: They were like, well, that's her last name, so let's make it his first name.
• 2:28
Speaker 3: Oh wonderful, there you go.
• 2:29
Speaker 3: All right, there you go.
• 2:30
  Speaker 3: I love it.
• 2:30
Speaker 3: I'm here for it.
• 2:32
  Speaker 1: It's very unique.
• 2:33
  Speaker 1: I don't know.
• 2:33
Speaker 1: I've never met a Briton before and hopefully the last time.
• 2:36
  Speaker 2: I'm just kidding.
• 2:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, so when you were going through school, did the kids make?
• 2:45
Speaker 2: fun of you or anything.
• 2:46
Speaker 2: Always the question I got was are you really from Britain?
• 2:49
Speaker 2: And I would always fake a British accent yes, of course I am.
• 2:52
Speaker 2: So when you were learning about Britain in school, did they all look at you?
• 2:59
Speaker 1: I don't know why but, every time they were like, oh, and we have the namesake here, that's it.
• 3:01
Speaker 1: Do I look like I'm just kidding?
• 3:03
Speaker 1: So how long have you been with Jeff Haas?
• 3:05
Speaker 2: I've been with Jeff Haas for almost two years now, but I've been a Mazda enthusiast since.
• 3:10
Speaker 1: Oh my, gosh Dirt Since dirt.
• 3:12
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 3:12
Speaker 1: Well, from time to time we get to drive new Mazdas in the press fleet and there aren't as many Mazdas in the press fleet as we'd like actually.
• 3:26
Speaker 1: Yeah, and that has nothing to do with you or us.
• 3:30
Speaker 1: It has to do with Mazda putting vehicles in the press fleet for us to drive.
• 3:34
Speaker 1: Why everybody doesn't do that?
• 3:36
Speaker 1: Because it's free advertising.
• 3:37
Speaker 1: You can't buy Exactly, but I don't know.
• 3:40
Speaker 1: I'm not in charge of anything and don't want to be.
• 3:43
Speaker 2: What Mazdas have you all driven?
• 3:44
Speaker 1: Oh God, well I'll tell you what.
• 3:47
Speaker 2: How much time do we got?
• 3:48
Speaker 1: Let's turn it around on you and let's name the models of Mazda that there are.
• 3:53
  Speaker 2: Let's do it.
• 3:54
Speaker 1: Start from the bottom, the entry-level Mazda.
• 3:56
Speaker 1: All right, the entry-level Mazda is going to be our Mazda 3 sedan and hatchback, which I am actually a current owner of um.
• 4:08
Speaker 2: Then you go, which one?
• 4:09
Speaker 2: The hatchback, of course, practicality.
• 4:10
Speaker 2: 65 inch tv, german shepherd across the country.
• 4:11
  Speaker 1: Easy got it.
• 4:12
Speaker 2: Yes, all right the next ones are going to be the suvs.
• 4:14
Speaker 2: Starting from the bottom, we have the mazda cx30, our sub compact suv, yep.
• 4:19
Speaker 2: Then you're going to have the mazda cx5, right, that's Mazda's bread and butter, best-selling vehicle to date worldwide, yeah.
• 4:25
Speaker 2: And then next is going to be the all-new for 2023, the CX-50, which I was also an owner of as well.
• 4:32
  Speaker 2: Isn't the 5 going away?
• 4:34
Speaker 2: It is not going away.
• 4:37
Speaker 2: The CX-5 and CX-50 are going to sell alongside each other Redesign.
• 4:40
Speaker 2: And you may see something online if you type in 2026 CX-5, maybe.
• 4:46
Speaker 1: Can't say too much, Because they are different and because of the popularity of the CX-5, they're hanging on to it.
• 4:52
  Speaker 1: That is correct.
• 4:54
Speaker 2: And then, after the CX-50, is going to be our next model, which is going to be the CX-70.
• 4:59
Speaker 2: The CX-70 and the CX-90, which is the next one, are siblings.
• 5:03
Speaker 2: They're on the new large platform rear wheel drive architecture.
• 5:07
Speaker 2: I don't know if y'all got to experience no, we haven't yet take the miata and just put three rows I've heard that and, uh, I'm going.
• 5:16
Speaker 1: Uh, okay, I gotta see it, you have to.
• 5:19
Speaker 1: You got it down there we do.
• 5:20
Speaker 2: We have both of them here we have the plug-in hybrid option, which is all new for us, and we have our inline six, developed in Japan as well, all in-house.
• 5:28
Speaker 1: Very nice yeah Give me the six.
• 5:31
Speaker 1: What did you say?
• 5:33
Speaker 1: I said give me the six.
• 5:34
Speaker 2: Give me the six all day, any day.
• 5:35
Speaker 1: Inline six, and these guys know this I am an inline six guy.
• 5:40
Speaker 1: I'll take an inline six over a V8, and I'll hop that inline six up and I'll beat that V8.
• 5:48
Speaker 2: Are you listening, Dylan?
• 5:49
Speaker 2: You hear that he's a V8 Chevy guy.
• 5:53
Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I am that, but I prefer inline six.
• 5:57
Speaker 2: A smooth, perfectly balanced, streamlined drive.
• 5:59
  Speaker 1: Because that's what I got.
• 6:03
Speaker 1: I opened up the hood of an old pickup truck and it had a 235 Blue Flame 6 in it and I probably doubled the horsepower in that thing.
• 6:14
Speaker 1: He was 40 whenever he did that.
• 6:17
  Speaker 1: I did not.
• 6:18
  Speaker 1: I was not 40.
• 6:19
  Speaker 1: I was like 16, but that's okay.
• 6:21
Speaker 2: You can pretend I was 40.
• 6:24
  Speaker 1: All right.
• 6:24
Speaker 1: So you are a product specialist, yes, and a salesperson, but you are a product specialist, yes, and a salesperson, but you're not selling these here, because I understand that, you know, the whole idea behind this show is the fact that we don't want to pressure these people to buy a new car.
• 6:39
Speaker 1: Come learn about the car.
• 6:41
Speaker 1: That's right, compare the cars.
• 6:43
Speaker 1: So my next question to you is who is your biggest competitor?
• 6:46
  Speaker 1: Ooh, toyota.
• 6:48
Speaker 2: You know, what's really interesting about Mazda is we really straddle the middle between the mainstream competitors and really that luxury market as well.
• 6:56
Speaker 2: Mazda is positioning themselves to be nicer materials on the inside than some of our mainstream competitors like Toyota, Honda, Subaru and kind of reaching for that premium status of Lexus, Acura, BMW, Mercedes, without the price tag associated and with the expensive maintenance as well very good answer yeah I like it, thank you can I get that in writing?
• 7:18
  Speaker 1: that's right, exactly.
• 7:20
Speaker 1: Well, and I think that that's a good description.
• 7:22
Speaker 1: Uh, because the ones that we have always driven, uh, the mainstays.
• 7:27
Speaker 1: We obviously haven't driven the brand, brand, brand new ones, but the ones that we have driven are just that, even the, the mazda miata, mx5 and we put those two words together because some people know what the mx5 is most recognized miata and it still is, to this day, how we all internally refer to it, oh you're here to drive the MX-5?
• 7:50
Speaker 2: You mean the Miata?
• 7:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, miata is always the answer, yeah.
• 7:53
Speaker 1: And you know I get the naming.
• 7:56
  Speaker 1: No, I don't.
• 7:57
Speaker 1: I've never gotten the naming thing with the alphanumeric stuff of any vehicle manufacturer, because I'm old and I realize that you know I want the Cadillac Escalade.
• 8:08
Speaker 1: We realize it too.
• 8:09
Speaker 3: Et cetera et cetera the names.
• 8:11
Speaker 1: Yeah, that way, but so which of all of those vehicles that you name is your biggest seller?
• 8:18
Speaker 2: Oh, cx-5 by and far.
• 8:20
Speaker 2: It really is by far.
• 8:21
Speaker 2: Oh yes, the CX-5 sells three to one what the CX-50 does.
• 8:28
Speaker 2: Just in comparison, the CX-5 is really positioned to be the direct competitor to all of our other rivals, their compact crossovers, rav4, cr-v.
• 8:35
Speaker 2: You could go Acura, rdx, bmw X3.
• 8:38
Speaker 1: Five passenger, two row Five passenger two row.
• 8:41
  Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a real heavy.
• 8:42
  Speaker 3: I mean that's a very competitive segment.
• 8:43
Speaker 2: Very, very competitive segment, and we have something that a lot of other competitors don't really have is a multi-link independent rear suspension on the mainstream side, and so for the cx-5 to have that and ride smooth without that luxury price tag is something that you really can't find in the market right now interesting.
• 9:00
Speaker 1: Uh, what kind of engine?
• 9:01
Speaker 1: There are the options to engines in that vehicle?
• 9:04
  Speaker 2: in the cx-5.
• 9:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, you have the same engine size and pretty much same configuration, but you have naturally aspirated and you have a turbo engine as well.
• 9:12
  Speaker 1: Okay, all right.
• 9:13
Speaker 1: And how much horsepower do the two have?
• 9:15
  Speaker 1: Do you know?
• 9:16
Speaker 2: Yes, the naturally aspirated on regular fuel by itself makes 187 horsepower, 187 pound-feet of torque, and it's mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
• 9:25
Speaker 2: The turbo makes 256 horsepower on premium fuel and 320 pound-feet of torque On regular gas, which it is engineered to run on as well.
• 9:37
Speaker 2: 227 horsepower, I want the turbo I have a turbo, I'll tell you and my Mazda 3 hatchback, night and day difference.
• 9:43
  Speaker 2: Yes, I do.
• 9:46
Speaker 1: Wow, yes, I've driven the turbo and it works well.
• 9:48
  Speaker 1: Interesting Now.
• 9:51
Speaker 1: Did you actually buy this car, or is it a demo?
• 9:54
Speaker 2: Oh no, I bought it with my own money.
• 9:55
Speaker 2: This is my second, third Mazda that I bought with my own money.
• 9:58
Speaker 1: Did you get the friends and family discount?
• 10:01
Speaker 2: You know you'd be shocked about the pricing for Mazdas.
• 10:04
  Speaker 2: You know it's.
• 10:05
Speaker 2: When you compare it to the domestics I'll say way less.
• 10:09
  Speaker 2: And that's Mazda's philosophy.
• 10:11
Speaker 2: When a client comes in to any Mazda dealer, it's the same price across every dealership and the market is this little.
• 10:18
Speaker 2: Really this little 2.5%, kind of like McDonald's.
• 10:22
Speaker 2: You know what you're going to get, you get a value meal.
• 10:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, basically, you know what you're getting when you walk in and it's a streamlined experience.
• 10:27
Speaker 2: It's like a boutique Take it off the shelf, take it to the register.
• 10:30
Speaker 1: How is your inventory?
• 10:32
Speaker 2: We are the largest Mazda dealer in the nation right now.
• 10:35
  Speaker 3: Wow.
• 10:35
  Speaker 2: And our inventory.
• 10:37
Speaker 2: We've got plenty, so come on down.
• 10:41
  Speaker 1: Plenty.
• 10:42
  Speaker 2: We've got plenty.
• 10:43
Speaker 1: How many is plenty?
• 10:44
Speaker 1: Is that five, or is that 50?
• 10:46
Speaker 2: We've got a full front parking lot and our building stretches oh my goodness, it's probably over 200 feet long and we've got a whole parking lot of CX-5s, cx-30s, mazda 3s, cx-50s, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, everywhere.
• 11:02
Speaker 1: Do you have storage lots off the?
• 11:04
  Speaker 2: main property.
• 11:04
Speaker 2: Right behind us, we just built a brand-new parking garage garage and Jeff is very proud of it.
• 11:09
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 11:09
Speaker 3: So they're not all just sitting out in the sun and the weather and the hurricanes and the snowfall.
• 11:15
Speaker 2: There was covered parking at one point and now we have a new open parking lot at the back, but that way they're locked and safe as well.
• 11:22
Speaker 1: Does Jeff show up there every day?
• 11:23
Speaker 2: He's there every single day.
• 11:25
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 11:25
Speaker 2: One of the best people I've ever met Is he right over your shoulder going.
• 11:29
Speaker 1: How dare you what?
• 11:31
  Speaker 3: are you doing?
• 11:31
  Speaker 3: Give that.
• 11:32
Speaker 3: How are you doing Exactly?
• 11:35
Speaker 2: No, Jeff is one of the most down-to-earth, normal people I've ever met and when you really if you never really had experience with like owners or like just these, like big, unattainable people they're normal people just like you and I, that's nice.
• 11:46
Speaker 2: They're normal people just like you and I, that's nice.
• 11:47
  Speaker 2: Cracks jokes.
• 11:48
Speaker 2: Invites us up to his office.
• 11:49
Speaker 2: He'll come down and sit at our desks with us.
• 11:52
Speaker 1: Cool, he's normal like us.
• 11:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, normal, like us, not like us.
• 11:55
Speaker 2: There's nobody like us, not y'all, not y'all, not in real time.
• 11:58
Speaker 2: No, yeah, yeah, we're the father time is what we are and I the show.
• 12:04
Speaker 2: What was the dinosaur that you wrote?
• 12:07
  Speaker 1: that's exactly yeah, mars, that's.
• 12:11
Speaker 1: Your next job is to find the dinosaur that we're going to roll out of here on, and put a cable on it uh-huh, flintstones meet the flintstones yeah, everybody now, um, hey, sing along you know, I.
• 12:29
Speaker 1: I think that it's interesting that most people don't really know of the japanese manufacturers.
• 12:37
Speaker 1: They know that toyota is, but the others is kind of like subu's made in japan.
• 12:43
Speaker 1: They're competitors at mazda japan.
• 12:47
Speaker 1: And when somebody says to me, well, what do you recommend?
• 12:52
Speaker 1: I say, well, what country do you want to drive?
• 12:56
Speaker 1: Because the driving experience in each country is different.
• 13:01
Speaker 1: You're correct, japanese feels different than German, feels different than American, different than german, feels different than american.
• 13:14
Speaker 1: Name it whatever it is in.
• 13:14
Speaker 1: Those countries have their own philosophy about designing a car and the ride.
• 13:18
Speaker 1: And if you're going to, in my estimation, if you're going to go look at a cx5, did you?
• 13:27
Speaker 1: If you're going to compare it to other japanese makers, well, we know what they are.
• 13:29
Speaker 1: But if you're going to compare it to other japanese makers, well, we know what they are.
• 13:31
Speaker 1: But if you're going to compare it to, let's say, for instance, bmw, that's a whole different experience.
• 13:39
Speaker 1: Compare it to the vw.
• 13:41
Speaker 1: Um, if you're going to buy american, my god, all of the major three manufacturers have a competitor with the CX-5.
• 13:50
  Speaker 2: They do.
• 13:50
Speaker 1: Go drive the competitor, the CX-5, and you're going to find a different driving experience to each of those because they're designed, built, in a different country.
• 13:58
Speaker 1: Yes, some of them are manufactured in the United States, but it's the way they're designed Right.
• 14:04
Speaker 1: And I will tell you that, driving all of these cars that we drive one different one every week you can really tell the difference, not that one's better or worse than the other, it's just the style, the feel of the car when you drive it down the road.
• 14:22
Speaker 1: If you're a real car person and you're looking to get into the driving experience of, say, a Mazda CX-5, drive it, go, compare it.
• 14:31
Speaker 1: You may really get off to the way that the Japanese design their cars.
• 14:37
  Speaker 1: I do.
• 14:39
Speaker 1: I bought a Lexus that I fell in love with.
• 14:42
Speaker 1: This was years ago.
• 14:43
Speaker 1: Fell in love with that thing, but that was the wife drove it.
• 14:48
Speaker 1: You know she loved it and resonated with it, whereas if she went, went for the competitor to it.
• 14:56
Speaker 1: Whatever chevy was making at the time.
• 14:58
  Speaker 1: Totally different.
• 14:59
Speaker 1: Yeah, and I would suggest that to anybody that asked me that you're going to shop the car right and drive it.
• 15:05
Speaker 1: Treat it as a different thing.
• 15:09
Speaker 1: Take whatever it is that you're driving, put that aside and go in with an open mind.
• 15:13
Speaker 1: Right, find out what country you want to drive and then compare the two.
• 15:18
Speaker 2: I'll tell you just to give you a little glimpse into Mazda's philosophy for their vehicles.
• 15:22
Speaker 2: One little instance of this Every single button in all of our cars is programmed to have the exact same tactile feel across all of them the window switches, the AC controls and it's that attention to detail that the Japanese focus on and Mazda technicians and engineers really hone in on, because that shows everything that we care about our vehicles.
• 15:44
Speaker 2: Every car is carved in clay before it ever goes into production by Takumi Craftsman in Japan.
• 15:50
Speaker 2: Every single one has human soul in it, and so that's different when you're talking about well, maybe it's not the most spacious, maybe it's not the most economical, but it's the design and the purpose and philosophy in our cars which really drives our customers.
• 16:05
  Speaker 1: And I agree.
• 16:05
Speaker 1: You know it's funny.
• 16:06
Speaker 1: Did you ever go to the?
• 16:08
Speaker 1: I guess it was when the MX-5 came out and somehow, someway, I guess, I weaseled my way into Koda and they had a division race there of Miatas, a very competitive thing, and it's a whole other story that I don't want to get into today because it's too involved.
• 16:28
Speaker 1: But it's a whole other story that I don't want to get into today because it's too involved, but it's a whole culture of Miata people.
• 16:33
Speaker 1: And you know, here's the engine.
• 16:35
Speaker 1: This is the engine I've got in this one, this is the engine I've got in this one.
• 16:38
  Speaker 1: We all compete.
• 16:39
  Speaker 1: It's a whole thing.
• 16:41
Speaker 1: Yeah, we did a couple of, but when they designed that Mazda Miata, the new one that you're selling today, they look at your driving position behind the steering wheel, because I don't know whether you were paying attention to it.
• 16:53
  Speaker 1: Most people don't.
• 16:54
Speaker 1: You actually don't usually sit directly behind the steering wheel.
• 16:59
Speaker 1: You may be off an inch, sometimes two inches, but you're sitting back far enough.
• 17:04
Speaker 1: You really don't pay that much of attention.
• 17:05
Speaker 1: They do and they make a big deal out of that and they design the car around the driver's driving position, ergonomics and it was amazing to hear the engineer talk about that.
• 17:18
Speaker 2: And that philosophy is called Jimba Itai, which translates to horse and rider as one.
• 17:22
Speaker 2: The car should be a natural extension of your body.
• 17:26
Speaker 1: Where is your display?

  Speaker 3: enough.
• 21:35
Speaker 1: Now, this is based on a Corvette chassis that Cadillac built for a few years.

• 22:19
  Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good-looking little car.
• 22:22
  Speaker 1: It really is.
• 22:28
Speaker 2: Unfortunately it had the North Star engine in it and it just didn't resonate with Cadillac buyers.
• 22:30

• 23:10
Speaker 1: So how much do you think that that would have sold?
• 23:12
Speaker 1: For now let me just say this.
• 23:13
Speaker 1: I'm going to give you a little hint.
• 23:15
Speaker 1: This is a car that has either been restored or it's all original, with low miles and really looks nice.
• 23:24
Speaker 1: Little tlc on it, a little tlc.
• 23:26

• 23:57
  Speaker 1: It's a four-seat, really.
• 23:59
Speaker 1: A four-seat sports car is what this is, yeah, but you don't use that.
• 24:00
  Speaker 1: And it's a convertible.
• 24:01
Speaker 3: It's two and-seat really a four-seat sports car is what this is.
• 24:02
Speaker 1: Yeah, but you don't use that and it's a convertible.

Speaker 1: David knows all this weird stuff.
• 24:26
Speaker 1: You guys are all in the same tub.
• 24:29
Speaker 1: It sold for $14,175.
• 24:33

  Speaker 3: Did I win?
• 24:35
  Speaker 3: I won.
• 24:36
  Speaker 1: Again.
• 24:37

• 24:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, baby, this was about as big as they ever got.
• 24:50

• 25:03
Speaker 2: The opera window fender skirts the opera window back there and it's got the fender skirt on it.
• 25:08
Speaker 1: This thing is as ugly as the day is long and I think those hubcaps, they each weighed a ton, uh-huh, and the color is beige.
• 25:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, baby, beige vinyl beige and brown.
• 25:20

• 25:33

• 25:35
