Speaker 2: I'm Sarah Strickland. The province's chief medical officer of health
• 0:09
Speaker 2: says only one in three people will get a jab
• 0:12
Speaker 2: this year, but she hopes earlier detection of influenza cases
• 0:16
Speaker 2: may change people's minds. Dr. Janice Fitzgerald held a news
• 0:21
Speaker 2: conference yesterday urging residents to get the vaccine, which they
• 0:25
Speaker 2: can get at a local pharmacy or some provincial health
• 0:28
Speaker 2: care facilities. Appointments are available starting next week. She says
• 0:32
Speaker 2: a small number of reported influenza cases have appeared earlier
• 0:36
Speaker 2: than normal this year and people should consider getting the shot,
• 0:40
Speaker 2: not just for themselves, but to protect others.
• 0:43
Speaker 3: Vaccination is your best protection against flu and COVID and
• 0:47
Speaker 3: certainly against severe disease with either of those viruses. And
• 0:51
Speaker 3: so while a lot of people I think feel they
• 0:53
Speaker 3: don't need that protection because they've never gotten the flu,
• 0:56
Speaker 3: although that's not really a good reason for not getting something,
• 0:58
Speaker 3: but you know, or they feel like they're not at
• 1:01
Speaker 3: risk or whatever the case, but there may be people
• 1:03
Speaker 3: around them who are. And sometimes people can get things,
• 1:07
Speaker 3: get a virus, not feel very sick, but they can
• 1:09
Speaker 3: certainly pass it on to other people who may get
• 1:11
  Speaker 3: more severe diseases.
• 1:13
Speaker 2: Premier Tony Wakeham is defending the former tourism minister after
• 1:17

• 1:19
Speaker 2: souvenir keychains, which were handed out to students during a
• 1:23
Speaker 2: trip to Beaumont-Hamill in France. The CBC report revealed that
• 1:27
Speaker 2: Andrea Barber, who was moved into the environment portfolio in August...
• 1:31
Speaker 2: spent over $ 1, 000 in public funds on 150 custom yellow
• 1:36
Speaker 2: rubber boot keychains. The yellow boot is an emblem of
• 1:40
Speaker 2: Barber's social media presence before entering politics and the company
• 1:44
Speaker 2: which supplied them is believed to be tied to a
• 1:47
Speaker 2: former PC candidate who ran in the last election. Wakeham
• 1:51
  Speaker 2: defends the purchase.
• 1:52
Speaker 4: Well, I think Minister Barber wanted to provide a token
• 1:56
Speaker 4: to all of the students who were traveling with her
• 1:58
Speaker 4: She followed government protocol. She didn't benefit personally from any
• 2:03
Speaker 4: of that. And as far as rubber boots are concerned,
• 2:06
Speaker 4: I don't believe that she has a patent on the

Speaker 4: use of rubber boots.

Speaker 2: and alleges the victim was taken at gunpoint, handcuffed and

Speaker 2: assaulted before the suspects tried to gain access to his

  Speaker 2: up much more.
• 2:38
Speaker 5: When our officers executed search warrants, they seized firearms, including
• 2:43
Speaker 5: firearms with a receiver that was 3D printed. Our officers
• 2:48
Speaker 5: also seized silencers and more than 2,700 rounds of ammunition

Speaker 5: ammunition was allegedly stolen from the Canadian Armed Forces.
• 3:05

Speaker 2: a ride back home after having his vehicle seized and

Speaker 2: license suspended from speeding through a construction zone on the
• 3:15
Speaker 2: Trans-Canada earlier this week. Deer Lake RCMP say a patrol

Speaker 2: up by over 7 cents. The price of furnace and
• 3:50
Speaker 2: stove oil increases by over 6 cents per liter. Meanwhile,
• 3:54
Speaker 2: it was on wheels at Orange Store locations across the
• 3:57
Speaker 2: province as the retailer was offering a 15 cent per
• 4:00
Speaker 2: liter discount on all fuels for a few hours yesterday.
• 4:04
Speaker 2: Long lineups were reported at several locations. Many other retailers
• 4:09
Speaker 2: also adjusted their prices during the promotion to be more comparable.
