- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome to Jagxam. I'm tay Nannie Stevens, Brian Sexton, and
- 0:20Speaker 1: John Osier with me. We're all back in the house
- 0:22Speaker 1: because the players are back in the house today as
- 0:24Speaker 1: the off season program begins. So let's get into our
- 0:26Speaker 1: big things. Big thing number one is back.
- 0:28Speaker 2: In the building.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Players are here for the first time. They get to
- 0:31Speaker 1: get acquainted with this new staff. Brian, We've been here
- 0:33Speaker 1: for a little bit, but it's gonna be different with
- 0:35Speaker 1: the players here and now they get to kind of
- 0:36Speaker 1: meet their new coaching staff and really understand what this
- 0:39Speaker 1: year is going to be like.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, qu up the C word culture.
- 0:42Speaker 4: This is when the coaches and the players establish the relationships,
- 0:46Speaker 4: They establish the expectations, you know, the things that they
- 0:50Speaker 4: want to get done and the way that they'll go
- 0:52Speaker 4: about doing it. It's voluntary. It's completely voluntary. But you
- 0:57Speaker 4: would think, John, that this is a really important time
- 1:00Speaker 4: for every player to be here, just to get to
- 1:03Speaker 4: know the coaching staff, to get a feel for how
- 1:05Speaker 4: they're going to do things. You know, I saw Mike Rabel,
- 1:09Speaker 4: you know, sent letters to all the Patriots in his
- 1:11Speaker 4: first year voluntarily talked about volunteer It is totally voluntary,
- 1:15Speaker 4: but it doesn't make it less important when you have
- 1:17Speaker 4: a new coach yet.
- 1:18Speaker 5: It's voluntary, but it's a little awkward if you show
- 1:21Speaker 5: up for training camp and you haven't met anybody yet.
- 1:25Speaker 5: So it's it's voluntary. But most players, especially in this
- 1:29Speaker 5: first year of a new regime, I haven't been around
- 1:33Speaker 5: very many players who even really experienced good players who
- 1:37Speaker 5: don't show up and get involved in that first. When
- 1:41Speaker 5: I talked to Liam Cohen last week at the at
- 1:43Speaker 5: the owner's meetings, I asked him what can players expect
- 1:46Speaker 5: when you show up? And he talked about the energy
- 1:49Speaker 5: and you know, when they walk in the building, coaches
- 1:54Speaker 5: want them to know this is what it's going to
- 1:56Speaker 5: be about. I also think Brian is going to be
- 1:58Speaker 5: some Look, this is a new thing. What you're walking
- 2:03Speaker 5: into is not what it was before, and there's a
- 2:06Speaker 5: little bit of a you know tight and I.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Do yeah, I do think also, And there's no way
- 2:12Speaker 4: to quantify this. But if you're a player, especially a
- 2:14Speaker 4: player who's gotten another bite of the apple, if you're Trevor,
- 2:16Speaker 4: if you're Josh, if you're Tyson, if you're one of
- 2:18Speaker 4: these guys who's up for a contract. You have to
- 2:21Speaker 4: look and see what the owner did, I mean, to
- 2:23Speaker 4: make the clean sweep, which they had not done around
- 2:25Speaker 4: here since twenty thirteen, to send the entire defensive coach
- 2:29Speaker 4: is coaching staff packing at after all, just bringing them in,
- 2:32Speaker 4: you know, it was a serious financial investment, emotional investment
- 2:37Speaker 4: in this franchise turning things around by the owner. And
- 2:39Speaker 4: I would think if you're a player, you'd want to
- 2:41Speaker 4: take a bite of that apple now.
- 2:43Speaker 1: And you look at some of the players that were
- 2:44Speaker 1: like go as well, veteran players here that we're used
- 2:46Speaker 1: to seeing, Evan Ingram, Christian Kirk, it's all different now.
- 2:48Speaker 1: There's some new free agents that were brought in, so
- 2:50Speaker 1: a lot of new faces all around. Our second big
- 2:53Speaker 1: thing today is going to be fifty.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Year option John.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I think one of the most obvious no brainers of
- 2:57Speaker 1: the week. They pick up the fifth year option on
- 2:59Speaker 1: Trayvon walk And people outside of Jacksonville don't seem to
- 3:02Speaker 1: understand as much because I know they don't watch Traylon
- 3:04Speaker 1: as much, but obviously this is a no brainer for them.
- 3:06Speaker 1: What does it mean in terms of a long term
- 3:07Speaker 1: deal though? Does this affect that at all?
- 3:09Speaker 6: Well, not really.
- 3:11Speaker 5: I mean I think it shows certainly, hey, we like
- 3:14Speaker 5: Trayvon Walker. I think everybody who follows the team knows
- 3:18Speaker 5: how important Trayvon is and knows what a core piece
- 3:21Speaker 5: he can be. Necessarily, I don't necessarily think the fact
- 3:24Speaker 5: that they did the fifth year means that they are
- 3:27Speaker 5: going to do the Trayvon's long term deal in a week.
- 3:32Speaker 5: It's kind of hard to explain, but when a new
- 3:35Speaker 5: regime comes in, even if a guy is going to
- 3:38Speaker 5: be a core player, they've only been around Trayvon the
- 3:42Speaker 5: new regime to shake his hand. He's only been around
- 3:45Speaker 5: them to shake their hand. There's nothing wrong at this
- 3:48Speaker 5: point in terms of the long term deal, Brian of
- 3:51Speaker 5: just saying, hey, you know.
- 3:52Speaker 6: We know this is gonna work, but let's just see.
- 3:55Speaker 5: It work for a while, see how everybody likes, to
- 3:57Speaker 5: see how you flourish. I don't think there'll be any
- 4:00Speaker 5: problem once the time is right to get Trayvon done.
- 4:03Speaker 5: And again, the fact that the long term deal hasn't
- 4:05Speaker 5: done yet and know it means they don't like Treyvon.
- 4:08Speaker 3: They love Listen.
- 4:09Speaker 4: I don't think it'll take very long high for them
- 4:12Speaker 4: to decide, Hey, let's get this deal done right, Not
- 4:14Speaker 4: that there's any sense of urgency, but when they see
- 4:17Speaker 4: the way that he works, when they see his physical
- 4:20Speaker 4: skill set, when they understand what he means to the
- 4:23Speaker 4: defensive front, they love him. They're going to love him
- 4:27Speaker 4: even more and they'll get it done. I don't know
- 4:28Speaker 4: how it works, if he'll ever play on the fifth
- 4:30Speaker 4: year deal, or they get a new year in place
- 4:33Speaker 4: and supplant that, or how they'll put it all together,
- 4:37Speaker 4: but he'll be here and they'll get him a long
- 4:38Speaker 4: term deal. And I'll say it one more time. He's
- 4:41Speaker 4: the first player since Kalaiis Campbell, the first player the
- 4:44Speaker 4: Jaguars have ever drafted that's posted back to back double
- 4:47Speaker 4: digit sack seasons. And I can't see any reason John
- 4:50Speaker 4: why he wouldn't be the first to have three consecutive
- 4:53Speaker 4: double digit sack seasons. He may never be the seventeen
- 4:57Speaker 4: sack guy that Josh Allen is, right, but he absolutely
- 5:01Speaker 4: a double digit sack guy year after year after year
- 5:04Speaker 4: because of the way you play the game.
- 5:06Speaker 1: And all the other things he does for the team
- 5:07Speaker 1: as well that go unnoticed, but not by the players
- 5:10Speaker 1: and of course not by the new coaches. Once they
- 5:12Speaker 1: see him in action. So let's do our final big
- 5:14Speaker 1: things today, which is just over two weeks away. The
- 5:17Speaker 1: draft is coming up. We've been talking about it's inching
- 5:19Speaker 1: closer bit by bit Brian. At this point, how set
- 5:23Speaker 1: is the board? Do they feel like they know what
- 5:25Speaker 1: they're doing at this point or is it all how
- 5:26Speaker 1: things fall.
- 5:27Speaker 4: On the day of Well, you know, most teams are
- 5:30Speaker 4: set at this point. They know who they like and
- 5:33Speaker 4: they know where they like them at, and not just
- 5:35Speaker 4: the first round obviously, all the way through the end.
- 5:38Speaker 4: But you know, you've got a scouting staff that was here,
- 5:41Speaker 4: a general manager who wasn't. They brought in a new
- 5:44Speaker 4: element with the analytical and strategical side of things, So
- 5:47Speaker 4: I wouldn't be surprised John if they're still tweaking things
- 5:50Speaker 4: around the edges.
- 5:51Speaker 3: But my sense is they know who they want.
- 5:53Speaker 5: You have a good idea of where most guys are
- 5:57Speaker 5: in the draft right now in terms of who they
- 6:00Speaker 5: specifically won at five. Tiss the season for a lot
- 6:05Speaker 5: of self mocking, and I do that a lot, so
- 6:07Speaker 5: I know it's about But for them, what it means
- 6:11Speaker 5: is you do a lot of scenarios, You do a
- 6:14Speaker 5: lot of Okay, well, what do we like here? If
- 6:17Speaker 5: so and so falls to five and then you do
- 6:20Speaker 5: a lot of weighing value. I think it's wide open.
- 6:23Speaker 5: I mean, I know everybody's mocking Mason Graham right now.
- 6:27Speaker 5: I don't think he's a lock. I don't think anybody's
- 6:29Speaker 5: a lock. I think there are decisions and discussions being had,
- 6:34Speaker 5: not right up to the draft, but certainly using these
- 6:37Speaker 5: next few weeks to make sure you're making the right choice.
- 6:40Speaker 2: All right, stay with us here on Jagsam.
- 6:41Speaker 1: We'll dive a little bit deeper, do some this or
- 6:43Speaker 1: that about what we think they go down in the
- 6:44Speaker 1: draft in a couple of weeks.
- 7:01Speaker 7: So the way it played out is the Jaguars have
- 7:04Speaker 7: moved on from head coach Doug Peterson.
- 7:06Speaker 4: The Jacks are allegedly down to three.
- 7:08Speaker 7: Final Liam Cohen will remain in Tampa Bay and no
- 7:11Speaker 7: longer be in.
- 7:12Speaker 4: The meg We are following a local breaking news alert
- 7:15Speaker 4: involving the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars parted ways with general
- 7:20Speaker 4: manager Trend Baking.
- 7:23Speaker 7: I did feel an immediate connection. Okay, you know, Shad
- 7:27Speaker 7: was very clear with where he wanted this organization to
- 7:31Speaker 7: go moving forward. I was being provided with an opportunity
- 7:35Speaker 7: in Tampa to potentially stay. But this is the goal
- 7:40Speaker 7: and it's at your doorstep.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Welcome back to Jack Vamerin.
- 7:45Speaker 1: It into a little bit of this or that, but
- 7:47Speaker 1: that was a tease for the Hunt episode which dropped
- 7:49Speaker 1: last week. If you haven't checked it out, it's about
- 7:51Speaker 1: thirty two minutes, I think.
- 7:52Speaker 2: So there's a lot of it.
- 7:53Speaker 1: A lot has happened in the off season, but if
- 7:55Speaker 1: you want to look into that process of everything that
- 7:58Speaker 1: changed in the front office and the coaching, it's really
- 8:01Speaker 1: great access that we have. Now We've always done really
- 8:03Speaker 1: great things with this show, but just to see the
- 8:05Speaker 1: access we have now, it's spectaculars With Tony and James,
- 8:08Speaker 1: that's suddenly and Colin, it is excellent.
- 8:10Speaker 3: It doesn't get much better than that.
- 8:11Speaker 4: You know, I've seen a lot and I'm sure you
- 8:13Speaker 4: guys have two around the League of team produced behind
- 8:16Speaker 4: the scenes content. Nobody has access better than this team does.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Now.
- 8:19Speaker 5: Yeah, this is off the charts access and yeah, because
- 8:24Speaker 5: saying that doesn't happen without leadership buying in Tony, Liham
- 8:28Speaker 5: and James have been outstanding on that because they want
- 8:30Speaker 5: the fans to see what's going on.
- 8:32Speaker 4: So you got to give a shot at the crew
- 8:33Speaker 4: that produces that because there is a lot of passion
- 8:36Speaker 4: that goes into the early mornings and the late nights
- 8:38Speaker 4: and the travel and being behind the scenes and developing
- 8:41Speaker 4: the relationships.
- 8:41Speaker 3: It's a great production.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Absolutely, they're working on it right now. With all the
- 8:44Speaker 1: players arriving today for off season workouts voluntary workouts.
- 8:48Speaker 2: We're going to talk a little draft though.
- 8:50Speaker 1: We are just over two weeks away, which is crazy
- 8:52Speaker 1: because I feel like we've been talking about for a
- 8:53Speaker 1: while and we're inching slowly closer to these mocks and
- 8:56Speaker 1: we don't really know what's going to happen. We are
- 8:58Speaker 1: currently sitting at the fifth pick. So do we think
- 9:01Speaker 1: they're going to stay at the pick or are they
- 9:03Speaker 1: going to trade the pick well, or what's your choice?
- 9:06Speaker 2: Maybe let's do it that way.
- 9:08Speaker 5: I think they're going to stay because I think it's
- 9:10Speaker 5: a year where it's going to be hard to trade.
- 9:12Speaker 6: And that's just a guess. You don't know until you're
- 9:14Speaker 6: on the clock.
- 9:15Speaker 5: But there's been so many years where everybody's talked trade
- 9:18Speaker 5: beforehand and the GM comes out and says, we wouldn't
- 9:21Speaker 5: have minded, but no call. So this feels like that
- 9:27Speaker 5: year because it feels like the two quarterbacks are going.
- 9:30Speaker 6: To go before the Jags. That's just sort of a consensus.
- 9:34Speaker 5: And if there's not a quarterback at five, then a
- 9:36Speaker 5: lot of people believe that the two great players in
- 9:40Speaker 5: the draft are Carter and Hunter, and at five, you're
- 9:45Speaker 5: starting that run of good players but not necessarily better
- 9:50Speaker 5: than the rest. So I think they'd like to trade
- 9:53Speaker 5: but I think most teams would like to trade back
- 9:56Speaker 5: this year, so I think it'll be difficult.
- 9:58Speaker 4: I'll go from the I'd like to see them trade back,
- 10:00Speaker 4: but no further than nine because I've been told by
- 10:02Speaker 4: people that I know in this league that there are
- 10:05Speaker 4: nine guys that are difference makers, nine guys that have
- 10:08Speaker 4: true first round grades.
- 10:09Speaker 3: John, and so.
- 10:10Speaker 4: If you're gonna go back for this team and the
- 10:13Speaker 4: roster needs they have, it doesn't it doesn't matter. I mean,
- 10:15Speaker 4: you get a receiver, you can get a defensive lineman,
- 10:17Speaker 4: you get an offensive lineman. You have a pick in
- 10:20Speaker 4: those nine guys, So don't miss on the chance to
- 10:24Speaker 4: grab one of those. Because you have ten picks this year,
- 10:26Speaker 4: you have eleven picks next year. I never want to
- 10:28Speaker 4: say that you have enough picks, but you don't have
- 10:31Speaker 4: enough great difference making players four and thirteen is evidence
- 10:35Speaker 4: of that. So if I'm gonna move back, I'm only
- 10:37Speaker 4: going to go back a couple of spots.
- 10:39Speaker 6: Yeah, nine's a low number, but it's an accurate number.
- 10:42Speaker 5: It there's a lot of people who think between six
- 10:46Speaker 5: and maybe one hundred that there's really not a huge difference.
- 10:50Speaker 6: That's a little bit of exaggeration.
- 10:52Speaker 5: But when people talking about this draft, that's what they're
- 10:54Speaker 5: talking about is there's a lot of good players. There's
- 10:57Speaker 5: about for me know x number up here, and it's
- 11:00Speaker 5: really deep through the first two.
- 11:02Speaker 6: And a half three rounds.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Yeah, don't back away from the money.
- 11:05Speaker 6: All right.
- 11:05Speaker 1: So when we look at the draft as a whole,
- 11:07Speaker 1: obviously this is the first with the new regime here.
- 11:10Speaker 1: So how big of a deal is this draft? Obviously
- 11:12Speaker 1: there's been important drafts in the past, but for this franchise,
- 11:15Speaker 1: where they're at at this state, is it just the
- 11:17Speaker 1: next draft or is it really important that they get
- 11:19Speaker 1: this right.
- 11:20Speaker 4: No, I think it's really important they get it right.
- 11:21Speaker 4: And again, you could go defensive line so that they
- 11:25Speaker 4: could push the pocket and play to their playmakers.
- 11:27Speaker 3: On the edge.
- 11:29Speaker 4: You could go to the defensive line because of the
- 11:30Speaker 4: running game. You go to the offensive line because of
- 11:32Speaker 4: the offensive struggles they've had converting on third down? And one,
- 11:36Speaker 4: where are the touchdowns coming from?
- 11:37Speaker 3: Right now that you've let.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Go of two guys that were incredibly important to your offense, now,
- 11:43Speaker 4: I think there's a very important draft, John, because you
- 11:45Speaker 4: need to grab a player that can be a difference
- 11:47Speaker 4: maker right away.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Yeah, it's important because it's the first draft of James Gladstone,
- 11:53Speaker 5: and I think he's going to be here for a
- 11:55Speaker 5: long time. I don't want to necessarily over emphasiz the
- 12:00Speaker 5: importance because it's not necessarily considered a great draft where
- 12:04Speaker 5: you're going to get great in the second or third round.
- 12:08Speaker 5: You're gonna get good, solid, So I think it's important
- 12:11Speaker 5: in this sense. If you're James Gladstone, you want to
- 12:14Speaker 5: set the tone for what you're gonna be, the direction
- 12:17Speaker 5: for what you believe. You want to get good players
- 12:20Speaker 5: and start raising the young.
- 12:22Speaker 6: Floor of the roster.
- 12:23Speaker 5: He feels like he's already raised the floor. I think
- 12:26Speaker 5: it's really important to get a good start. I don't
- 12:30Speaker 5: know that you're going to get pro you know, three
- 12:33Speaker 5: pro bowlers out of it. But I think it's important
- 12:36Speaker 5: to get quality at the top and then one or
- 12:39Speaker 5: two guys in that second or third round that you
- 12:41Speaker 5: feel like are starters by the end of the first year.
- 12:44Speaker 1: All right, stay with us. We're gonna come back a
- 12:46Speaker 1: little bit. We're gonna get an ozone mail bag. He
- 12:48Speaker 1: will join us with all of the answers after the break.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Move the freight, Move the freight.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Magellan Transport voted the coolest office space in Jacksonmill can
- 13:00Speaker 1: apply on line at Magellanlogistics dot com.
- 13:13Speaker 2: There we go.
- 13:13Speaker 1: We're bringing back the ozone mail bag, John, and we're
- 13:16Speaker 1: thrilled you do it every day. So we might as
- 13:17Speaker 1: well recap some of the good ones. Let's start out
- 13:22Speaker 1: with Daniel from Saint John's, Florida, who says, do the
- 13:25Speaker 1: Jaguars think they solve the offensive line problem short term?
- 13:28Speaker 1: Or do they think they kind of put duct tape
- 13:30Speaker 1: on it to give them the freedom to take the
- 13:32Speaker 1: best available players in the draft?
- 13:34Speaker 5: Yeah, this was sort of a funny question to try
- 13:36Speaker 5: to answer because the answer is sort of yes. I
- 13:39Speaker 5: mean all that is or but it's sort of the
- 13:42Speaker 5: same thing, meaning they think they got better. I don't
- 13:46Speaker 5: want to portray them thinking that they went out and
- 13:50Speaker 5: signed the five best offensive linemen in the league. You know,
- 13:54Speaker 5: so can you continue to get better?
- 13:57Speaker 1: You know?
- 13:58Speaker 6: Is it duct tape?
- 13:59Speaker 5: Well in a sense that you drafted guys you feel
- 14:02Speaker 5: like are capable starters and make you better. But Brian,
- 14:06Speaker 5: I think they still believe that. Okay, say you were here,
- 14:11Speaker 5: now you got to hear and they want to keep
- 14:14Speaker 5: getting here. So all of that is, yes, they feel
- 14:19Speaker 5: like they're better, but everything they didn't free agency was
- 14:23Speaker 5: done with the idea of being able to go draft
- 14:26Speaker 5: the best available player. If they think there's a great
- 14:29Speaker 5: lineman out there, they're gonna take them at five. But
- 14:31Speaker 5: I don't necessarily think that they're gonna go that direction
- 14:33Speaker 5: at five.
- 14:33Speaker 4: Listen, a franchise that espouses that the draft is how
- 14:37Speaker 4: they're going to build, then free agency is duct tack
- 14:40Speaker 4: and that's the mindset that they're trying to get to.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Right now, they absolutely got better.
- 14:44Speaker 4: We're gonna find out exactly what they think based on
- 14:47Speaker 4: where they draft offensive lineman. I mean, I know we're
- 14:49Speaker 4: all focused on one, but on Night two, they've got
- 14:52Speaker 4: a second and two third round picks. And this is
- 14:54Speaker 4: a good draft at the top for offensive lineman, especially
- 14:57Speaker 4: in the middle as you get into rounds two, three,
- 14:59Speaker 4: and four. So you know, we can say duct tape
- 15:01Speaker 4: right now. But if they draft an offensive lineman in
- 15:04Speaker 4: the second round and in the fourth round, is that
- 15:06Speaker 4: duct tape?
- 15:07Speaker 3: I just think when you look.
- 15:08Speaker 4: At it, we're going to find out more when we
- 15:11Speaker 4: get through the draft about what they feel about their
- 15:13Speaker 4: offensive line.
- 15:14Speaker 1: And unfortunately we've seen depth is very important at offensive
- 15:17Speaker 1: line considering the injuries, so you can never have enough there.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Our second question for Ozone's gonna be Tony from John's
- 15:22Speaker 1: Craig Georgia says, maybe the Jags trade back a spot
- 15:25Speaker 1: or two and select Ashton genty. He along with running
- 15:28Speaker 1: backs Travesy Tan Junior and Tank Bixby would make a
- 15:30Speaker 1: loaded backfield. I say, maybe too many in the backfield,
- 15:33Speaker 1: but I have heard some smoke about this.
- 15:35Speaker 5: It's hard to say what they would do it if
- 15:38Speaker 5: they did take uh Gent. I don't necessarily think that
- 15:42Speaker 5: it's a lot that they have to trade back to tape.
- 15:44Speaker 5: I mean there are considered. Again, we talked about it earlier.
- 15:48Speaker 5: Two great players Carter and.
- 15:52Speaker 6: Hunter. But a lot of people think that ad a
- 15:55Speaker 6: Gent's right there with them.
- 15:57Speaker 5: The position devalue makes it a trick to take at
- 16:00Speaker 5: number five. But if you're talking about the three players
- 16:04Speaker 5: in the draft who people think stand above the rest,
- 16:06Speaker 5: he's one of them.
- 16:07Speaker 6: So could they take him.
- 16:10Speaker 5: I think there's a handful of players they could take
- 16:12Speaker 5: who sort of fit that.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Bill.
- 16:14Speaker 5: I think he's right in there. What would they do
- 16:17Speaker 5: running back in this situation? Sometimes, Brian, it's harder to
- 16:20Speaker 5: trade backs, meaning running backs than people think because you're
- 16:26Speaker 5: not necessarily gonna get the value. Sometimes it's better just
- 16:29Speaker 5: to keep those as on your roster because you're gonna
- 16:32Speaker 5: get more from having them than trading them.
- 16:35Speaker 6: I think it'd be a tough spot.
- 16:36Speaker 4: We talked earlier about touchdowns, and two years ago Travis
- 16:38Speaker 4: Etn gave you eleven touchdowns, So you know, perhaps he
- 16:41Speaker 4: could be worked into a role where he becomes a
- 16:44Speaker 4: touchdown maker.
- 16:45Speaker 3: I listen, I've been told.
- 16:47Speaker 4: That on the high end, Genty looks like a young
- 16:49Speaker 4: Ladanian Tomlinson, right, and on the low end he looks
- 16:52Speaker 4: like Christian McCaffrey.
- 16:54Speaker 3: I mean, both of these guys are prolific.
- 16:57Speaker 4: Touchdown scorers, and you you don't have Christian Kirk is gone,
- 17:02Speaker 4: Evan Ingram is gone. Who are the touchdown makers last year?
- 17:06Speaker 4: The only guy left is Brian Thomas Junior. You need
- 17:08Speaker 4: people who scored touchdowns. This guy scored what twenty six
- 17:11Speaker 4: last year. I've got no problem with they decide to
- 17:15Speaker 4: take this running back because he looks like he is special,
- 17:18Speaker 4: even if he's not Ladanian Tomlinson, who's at the league
- 17:21Speaker 4: record with thirty one touchdowns in two thousand and six.
- 17:24Speaker 4: If he's the guy that McCaffrey was two years ago
- 17:26Speaker 4: when he was the Offensive Player of the Year and
- 17:29Speaker 4: scored twenty six touchdowns.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Take it.
- 17:32Speaker 5: Yeah, for perspective, you tend to forget as guys move on.
- 17:38Speaker 6: Ladanian might be the best back in the last twenty years.
- 17:41Speaker 5: Oh and I know there are Derrick Henry. There are
- 17:45Speaker 5: guys who be on that conversation as well, Adrian Peterson.
- 17:48Speaker 6: But I mean, if he's Ladanian, who.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Was a high level I haven't looked at his numbers lately,
- 17:54Speaker 5: but it felt like high level for seven or eight years,
- 17:58Speaker 5: then number five is not too Would number five be
- 18:02Speaker 5: too high for Fred?
- 18:04Speaker 3: No?
- 18:05Speaker 5: No, So if he's Fred, which that's the conversation, Ladanian
- 18:09Speaker 5: is up there to me with the Fred Taylor of
- 18:10Speaker 5: the world. If he's that, then number five and two.
- 18:13Speaker 4: If the Bears took Curtis Enis at five, ye, so,
- 18:17Speaker 4: and they would have rather had Fred.
- 18:19Speaker 3: Listen, you need touchdown may.
- 18:20Speaker 6: Common to take me instead.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Yeah. Probably.
- 18:23Speaker 1: So.
- 18:24Speaker 4: You need touchdown scorers, touchdown makers on this roster.
- 18:28Speaker 3: You don't have enough of them.
- 18:29Speaker 4: So you know, whether it's a running back or receiver,
- 18:31Speaker 4: a tight end, they're all available in those you know,
- 18:33Speaker 4: those nine players most people think belong there in the
- 18:36Speaker 4: first round. Give me any of the three of them,
- 18:40Speaker 4: and it makes this offense explosive. And don't forget, by
- 18:42Speaker 4: the way, it's worth noting that last year Liam Cohen,
- 18:46Speaker 4: in his year as the offensive coordinator for the Tampa
- 18:48Speaker 4: Bay Buccaneers, took a running game that was near the
- 18:51Speaker 4: bottom of the league and moved them into the top five.
- 18:54Speaker 4: And you saw what it did for Baker Mayfield's career
- 18:56Speaker 4: career best forty one touchdown passes.
- 18:58Speaker 3: So imagine that this on the.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Field with your quarterback and Brian Thomas Jr. It's pretty
- 19:04Speaker 4: exciting to sort of let the scenarios play out.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it's exciting to be at a point now where
- 19:09Speaker 1: you could say anything besides quarterback, and I wouldn't be
- 19:11Speaker 1: surprised if they picked that position for the draft. So
- 19:13Speaker 1: it's kind of cool to see how they build this together.
- 19:15Speaker 6: All right.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Final ozone mailbag questions runs from JP. I don't know
- 19:18Speaker 1: if it's our JP, he says, I saw we can
- 19:20Speaker 1: now wear our throwbacks four times a year.
- 19:22Speaker 2: I guess we're getting at least four wins this season.
- 19:25Speaker 5: Well, I played Agrans. I don't know if they can
- 19:28Speaker 5: wear them all four times. I think they can. I
- 19:33Speaker 5: think what the rule is from what I have read,
- 19:35Speaker 5: a version of an alternate jersey can be worn four
- 19:39Speaker 5: times rather than three. In the pasture, I think there
- 19:44Speaker 5: will be a thought of wearing the prowlers as often
- 19:48Speaker 5: as you can.
- 19:48Speaker 4: Yeah, listen, I don't know what the rules are either.
- 19:51Speaker 4: At this point, they're changing year to year. It's clear
- 19:54Speaker 4: though that there is a lot of money to be
- 19:56Speaker 4: made in alternate uniforms and alternate helmet. Look at what
- 20:00Speaker 4: college football, especially what Oregon has done. We're getting to
- 20:04Speaker 4: the point where you feel like maybe they're just gonna
- 20:06Speaker 4: take all the rules off and it's going to be
- 20:08Speaker 4: where what you want.
- 20:09Speaker 5: I doubt the NFL will ever do that because they
- 20:11Speaker 5: like The NFL really likes people who can be in
- 20:15Speaker 5: a sports bar without the sound and know that they're
- 20:18Speaker 5: seeing a certain team, but.
- 20:19Speaker 4: Half the schedule now is in an alternate uniform. They're
- 20:23Speaker 4: getting closer.
- 20:23Speaker 5: I don't think they'll go where it's Oregon where you
- 20:26Speaker 5: can basically see or May Maryland a few years back,
- 20:30Speaker 5: where like they were in purple at some point.
- 20:32Speaker 3: I think so.
- 20:33Speaker 5: I don't think they'll go to that degree, but they're
- 20:35Speaker 5: going further than I ever thought they woul.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Yeah, they're putting a lot of emphasis there on the
- 20:39Speaker 4: merchandising side of things, and that's what the NFL does well.
- 20:42Speaker 3: They make money.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Many shades of teal will figure it out at some point,
- 20:45Speaker 1: but I wouldn't be mad if they did the throwbacks
- 20:47Speaker 1: four times.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Here.
- 20:48Speaker 4: Stay with us.
- 20:49Speaker 1: We'll tell you what's coming up the rest of the
- 20:50Speaker 1: week here and what you can expect before the draft,
- 21:00Speaker 1: which exam brought to you by Fresh from Florida. It's
- 21:03Speaker 1: always in season.
- 21:05Speaker 2: And what the Gators are.
- 21:07Speaker 1: On top today, I shouldn't give a shout out to them.
- 21:08Speaker 1: We got a bunch of them in the building. They've
- 21:10Speaker 1: been telling me about it.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I have heard it yet, this.
- 21:11Speaker 1: One right here, well yeah, I mean, John doesn't throw
- 21:14Speaker 1: in your face.
- 21:16Speaker 5: I'm not a huge athletics fan compared to a lot
- 21:19Speaker 5: of people in the building, but I did get a
- 21:22Speaker 5: little bit into this team the last two weeks, and
- 21:25Speaker 5: because some friends of mine cover the team, so I
- 21:27Speaker 5: kind of follow them. And they're an impressive champion the
- 21:32Speaker 5: way they won it, so it was kind of cool
- 21:35Speaker 5: to see.
- 21:35Speaker 4: Listen, I'm a college troops guy, went to Kansas and
- 21:38Speaker 4: so I think I know a thing or two about it.
- 21:39Speaker 3: But to watch that.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Team take Houston, which that defense was as good of
- 21:44Speaker 4: a college basketball defense as I've seen since Nolan Richardson's
- 21:47Speaker 4: forty Minutes of Hell if you remember that at Arkansas,
- 21:49Speaker 4: man was a good and for Florida to take pune
- 21:51Speaker 4: after ponge after punch down twelve in the bonus with
- 21:55Speaker 4: thirteen minutes to play in the half, I thought, well,
- 21:57Speaker 4: this one's over, and Florida just kept standing in there,
- 22:00Speaker 4: taking the punch and delivering, and then of course the
- 22:03Speaker 4: guard comes alive at the end with a couple of
- 22:05Speaker 4: big three point shots. It was a really fun game
- 22:07Speaker 4: to watch, even though it was what sixty five sixty three.
- 22:10Speaker 6: Now you talk about mental toughness for a college player.
- 22:12Speaker 5: For Clayton to have the kind of half he did
- 22:14Speaker 5: and then hit huge shots in the second over watching
- 22:19Speaker 5: sports for a long time, you see a lot of
- 22:21Speaker 5: people melt when they don't have a great you know,
- 22:23Speaker 5: expectations high, and it looked like it didn't even affect
- 22:26Speaker 5: mem It was like an iceman and then hit huge shots.
- 22:28Speaker 6: They don't win the championship without him.
- 22:30Speaker 3: It was cool.
- 22:31Speaker 5: I mean, I don't follow college basketball like I did
- 22:33Speaker 5: a long time ago when I was covering it. I
- 22:35Speaker 5: covered Florida's first Final four in ninety four, So it
- 22:41Speaker 5: was good. Yeah, A Lone was a good, very good
- 22:43Speaker 5: coach Kansa, and it was cool to see a team
- 22:48Speaker 5: that you felt like was doing it the right way.
- 22:50Speaker 3: It was fun to watch.
- 22:51Speaker 1: March is such a special time of year. So congratulations
- 22:53Speaker 1: to the Gators. The champions as i've seen, got very good.
- 22:58Speaker 6: John.
- 22:58Speaker 1: What's going on this week? They're coming in there wretching.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I can do some squats, but they can't touch football's yet.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:02Speaker 6: I had a little stretching this morning. About the same
- 23:05Speaker 6: on board.
- 23:08Speaker 5: Here is I mean, so much of this week is meetings.
- 23:11Speaker 5: It's getting to know these guys and it's really starting
- 23:15Speaker 5: to jump into the schemes.
- 23:16Speaker 6: In terms of meetings, the on.
- 23:18Speaker 5: Field stuff is stole aways off by rule. So but
- 23:23Speaker 5: one final thing if people haven't heard it. The ozone
- 23:26Speaker 5: podcast last week was Rams General Manager Less Snead. I
- 23:30Speaker 5: usually don't, you know, promote that much on this show
- 23:34Speaker 5: something else, but the less Snead was really fascinating. His
- 23:38Speaker 5: thoughts on what Tony Biselli means the organization or that
- 23:42Speaker 5: kind of a vision can mean, and obviously his thoughts
- 23:45Speaker 5: on Gladstone and Cohen, who he knows well. It was
- 23:48Speaker 5: interesting stuff that I would recommend if you're interested in
- 23:51Speaker 5: what these.
- 23:51Speaker 6: Guys are about to go back and.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Listen to that absolutely.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Now before we get out of here today, I do
- 23:56Speaker 1: you want to mention one addition to our production department
- 23:59Speaker 1: here at Jaguars we have Elizabeth Hockman is our newest
- 24:03Speaker 1: addition here to Jaguars AM, which is our I guess
- 24:09Speaker 1: he has many titles. I will say editor, photog, just general.
- 24:13Speaker 3: He's in my phone.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Is mad Max, John's favorite person.
- 24:17Speaker 6: Max. He's the best, but he's.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Responsible for all of the Maximus he's responsible for all
- 24:21Speaker 1: of the miked up content that you guys love so much.
- 24:23Speaker 1: But we have baby Elizabeth Hakman that is joining us
- 24:26Speaker 1: and very cute.
- 24:27Speaker 2: We love baby.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Photos, so I had to share. But Max will be
- 24:29Speaker 1: out for a while. He'll be back for micd up
- 24:31Speaker 1: during the season. But congratulations to them.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Mom.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Katie is doing well as well and exciting. First, any
- 24:36Speaker 1: dad advice did you guys give him any dad advice?
- 24:38Speaker 6: Well, first of all, Max has the same outfit, so
- 24:41Speaker 6: he doesn't love pink.
- 24:42Speaker 2: He does love pink.
- 24:43Speaker 5: No, Max and Katie will be great parents because they're
- 24:46Speaker 5: great people.
- 24:46Speaker 4: My advice for him was before the baby arrived, to
- 24:48Speaker 4: enjoy sleeping because he's not going to get as much
- 24:50Speaker 4: of it as he's accustomed to.
- 24:51Speaker 2: For the next Max like some naps, so I'll have
- 24:54Speaker 2: to figure that out. Get on the right schedule. Anyway,
- 24:56Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us. We'll see you next week on Jagula.
