- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to A Peek Inside Gator Football. I'm Allie Peek,
- 0:03Speaker 1: joined today by Landon Tangwell, host of Landon Tangwell's College
- 0:07Speaker 1: Football Show. We are going to talk about Florida's offensive
- 0:11Speaker 1: line performance against FAU and what maybe we could expect
- 0:14Speaker 1: from them moving forward. This video is brought to you
- 0:16Speaker 1: by PrizePix. Don't forget, all new users can download the app.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Use our code. It's HMA. And if you play a
- 0:23Speaker 1: $ 5 lineup and you win, you'll get $ 150 in lineups instantly.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Okay.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Landon, I'm so excited to talk about our Florida's offensive
- 0:32Speaker 1: line with you. You have kind of taken YouTube by storm.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I know Florida fans are like clamoring for anything and
- 0:40Speaker 1: everything you can tell us because Phil Trotwine was your
- 0:43Speaker 1: coach at Penn State and you've had some really in-depth
- 0:48Speaker 1: analysis and opinions about this offensive line and you liked
- 0:52Speaker 1: what you saw on Saturday night, right?
- 0:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I really did.
- 0:55Speaker 2: And I think a lot of people first, like I
- 0:57Speaker 2: see the comments, not only from Florida fans, some of them,
- 1:00Speaker 2: but a lot of other fans like, oh, it's just FAU, whatever.
- 1:03Speaker 2: I've watched about 10 to 12 different offensive lines from
- 1:06Speaker 2: week one. There's a lot of teams that are supposed
- 1:09Speaker 2: to be good teams that played bad teams and their
- 1:12Speaker 2: offensive line was not good and did not look like
- 1:15Speaker 2: Florida's offensive line looked. So I just want to say
- 1:17Speaker 2: that first and foremost, that that's one of the reasons
- 1:20Speaker 2: I was so impressed. You had so many different moving
- 1:22Speaker 2: pieces and so many new aspects to this offensive line. Obviously,
- 1:27Speaker 2: new offensive line coach, which was very much a positive,
- 1:29Speaker 2: but still everything was so new that that's kind of
- 1:32Speaker 2: why I was so impressed that everybody was on the
- 1:34Speaker 2: same page.
- 1:35Speaker 3: There was the detail oriented. uh, aspect of this offensive line.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Like it was so clear to me and I could just,
- 1:41Speaker 2: I could just see the Phil Trout wine just oozing
- 1:44Speaker 2: out of these guys because I know how detail oriented is.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I know the test that he gives these offensive linemen
- 1:50Speaker 2: every single week. It's four or five, six pages long
- 1:54Speaker 2: and you have to know every single thing.
- 1:56Speaker 3: If you're Harrison Moore, You don't just know center.
- 1:59Speaker 2: You've got to write down everything that the left tackle,
- 2:01Speaker 2: the right tackle, everybody has. And that's why I think
- 2:05Speaker 2: you're going to start to see this offensive line just
- 2:07Speaker 2: look so smooth and they're just moving in unison. And
- 2:12Speaker 2: the other part that was so exciting for me was
- 2:14Speaker 2: the physicality aspect. I mean, guys, I didn't even think,
- 2:18Speaker 2: like when I watched Emeka Ugorji at Stanford, I think
- 2:20Speaker 2: a lot of people felt this way. Like it was
- 2:21Speaker 2: kind of like... He's going to start. I don't feel
- 2:25Speaker 2: that way after watching him on Saturday. I look, you know,
- 2:27Speaker 2: we'll wait and we'll see him get some tests, especially
- 2:29Speaker 2: in past pro verse, you know, true SEC defensive ends.
- 2:32Speaker 3: But he looked completely different.
- 2:34Speaker 2: I just saw a different level of overall physicality where
- 2:36Speaker 2: it was like, I want to bury you. I want
- 2:38Speaker 2: to take you from point A to point B against
- 2:40Speaker 2: your will and just establish my dominance. And I really
- 2:44Speaker 2: didn't see I'd say the only guy really saw a
- 2:46Speaker 2: lot of that from last year was Bryce Lovett. Yeah,
- 2:49Speaker 2: that there wasn't that like I want to I just
- 2:51Speaker 2: want to dominate you.
- 2:52Speaker 3: And you're seeing that really across the board.
- 2:54Speaker 2: And mind you, not only from the offensive line, we
- 2:56Speaker 2: saw that from tight ends, wide receivers. Everybody was getting
- 2:59Speaker 2: in on it. It feels like John Summer has brought
- 3:02Speaker 2: a new identity to Florida and especially Buster Faulkner. And
- 3:05Speaker 2: it's a lot of unique. stuff that they're doing. But,
- 3:08Speaker 2: but the, the number one thing is we got a
- 3:10Speaker 2: lot stronger. We all heard about how the offensive line
- 3:13Speaker 2: was not in a good place. And I think they're
- 3:15Speaker 2: really fixing that up.
- 3:17Speaker 1: How much of that do you think has to do
- 3:18Speaker 1: with the strength and conditioning program that they had over
- 3:20Speaker 1: the off season in obviously in conjunction with Phil's coaching?
- 3:25Speaker 3: Oh, I think a lot.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Listen, if you have– and I think it was very
- 3:28Speaker 2: clear that it was not a good strength and conditioning program.
- 3:30Speaker 2: If you come out and basically say that if you're
- 3:32Speaker 2: the head coach, that means it wasn't good because you
- 3:34Speaker 2: don't want to just come out and just trash someone
- 3:36Speaker 2: for no reason. It came in and it was probably,
- 3:38Speaker 2: what the heck were these guys doing? And I've seen–
- 3:41Speaker 2: there's a big difference between a good strength program.
- 3:43Speaker 3: And a bad one.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yeah. And I think that just I mean, you saw
- 3:46Speaker 2: Bryce Lovett, for example, the transformation of his body. But really,
- 3:50Speaker 2: everybody you saw, everybody dropped some bad weight, put on
- 3:53Speaker 2: some great muscle. And not only does that just help
- 3:57Speaker 2: your overall play, but like there is an aspect to
- 4:00Speaker 2: to look good.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Feel good, play good.
- 4:01Speaker 2: And I think John Summerall even said that he's like
- 4:03Speaker 2: Bryce Lovett didn't want to take his shirt off a
- 4:05Speaker 2: couple of months ago.
- 4:06Speaker 3: And now he's feeling good.
- 4:07Speaker 2: There is that that is a piece of it as well.
- 4:09Speaker 2: So I think that plays into it. But part of it, too,
- 4:12Speaker 2: is just it's just doing everything right. I think that's
- 4:14Speaker 2: why Florida was on such a bad track where a
- 4:17Speaker 2: lot of stuff was not being done correctly. And I
- 4:20Speaker 2: think now the weight room and what they're demanding of
- 4:22Speaker 2: the mayor and what Trout demands of the offensive line
- 4:24Speaker 2: room in not only in the film room, but also
- 4:26Speaker 2: on the field and all of that in conjunction. It
- 4:29Speaker 2: changes the way that you operate. The fact that Trout
- 4:32Speaker 2: we were talking before we started about how Trout. is
- 4:35Speaker 2: just a freak about how he eats. Like he eats
- 4:37Speaker 2: nothing bad. There's really no alcohol. There's no sugar in
- 4:40Speaker 2: his diet. And I'm not to say, you know, the
- 4:42Speaker 2: guys on the team aren't doing that. Like you're, you're
- 4:44Speaker 2: a college kid and you have to take in a
- 4:45Speaker 2: ton of calories as a football player, but that.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Does enjoy your college experience.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Exactly. They're going out. Trust and believe, especially after those
- 4:53Speaker 3: big wins.
- 4:54Speaker 2: But there is a factor of like all these outside
- 4:57Speaker 2: influences are going to make them do the little things correctly.
- 5:00Speaker 2: And those little things add up that little extra time
- 5:03Speaker 2: in the film room that I guarantee you're getting because
- 5:06Speaker 2: Trout is pushing you and raising that bar. That's why
- 5:09Speaker 2: you're going to see the product continue to get.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Better and better.
- 5:12Speaker 1: One of the things you talked about in your breakdown
- 5:14Speaker 1: video was Florida's rushing game, and they ran for 281 yards.
- 5:19Speaker 1: They averaged seven yards per carry against Florida Atlantic. I
- 5:23Speaker 1: think Jaden Ball averaged over 11 per carry himself. How
- 5:27Speaker 1: much of that was the backs making plays, and how
- 5:30Speaker 1: much of that was genuinely good offensive line play?
- 5:34Speaker 2: Yeah, so listen, I am a believer, and I think
- 5:37Speaker 2: that people that don't think that Jaden Ball is the
- 5:40Speaker 2: best running back in college football— I don't know.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I think he is. Like I said, I look around.
- 5:45Speaker 2: And I don't think there's anybody else out there doing
- 5:47Speaker 2: what he's doing now. So I think there was a combo.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I think there was many of plays where I look
- 5:52Speaker 2: at it. I say, this is just blocked up perfectly.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Like this is just so clean. And I even put
- 5:57Speaker 2: a couple of plays on there where they only went
- 5:59Speaker 2: for like a three yard gain, but it's still, it
- 6:01Speaker 2: was a hat on a hat and everybody did their job.
- 6:03Speaker 2: And sometimes that's just going to be the reality that
- 6:06Speaker 2: everybody on defense is on scholarship too. But then there
- 6:08Speaker 2: was also place where it's, the ball was in boss
- 6:12Speaker 2: hands and he just made it happen. I mean, you
- 6:14Speaker 2: can think back to multiple, but there was one where
- 6:16Speaker 2: he was in the wildcat and phyla was kind of
- 6:18Speaker 2: split out to the right and he snaps the ball.
- 6:21Speaker 2: And there's, we had two defenders coming off the edge
- 6:24Speaker 2: and they're just unaccounted for. And honestly, I said on
- 6:26Speaker 2: the film breakdown, I'm like, I don't really love this play,
- 6:29Speaker 2: but when you have Jaden ball, I love any play
- 6:31Speaker 2: where the ball's in his hands. And so he just
- 6:32Speaker 2: made both of them miss and then got into the
- 6:34Speaker 2: end zone. I just had some ridiculous runs. So I
- 6:37Speaker 2: think you have a good combination of an offensive line
- 6:40Speaker 2: that was blocking really well. And I'm, by the way,
- 6:42Speaker 2: a tight end group. I don't know if that's been
- 6:44Speaker 2: talked about enough of how these were blocking too. I mean,
- 6:47Speaker 2: very physical and establishing their will as well. But listen,
- 6:52Speaker 2: it's just going to bake ball's life that much easier
- 6:54Speaker 2: where he doesn't have to do everything. But I would
- 6:57Speaker 2: definitely say a mixture of both in a very good way.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I do think we've spent so much time over the
- 7:02Speaker 1: last four years kind of harping on Florida's offensive line
- 7:06Speaker 1: and deservedly so most of the time. But I do
- 7:09Speaker 1: think you bring up an interesting point about the tight
- 7:10Speaker 1: ends and even the wide receivers blocking. I think back
- 7:13Speaker 1: to Florida's dominance under Urban Meyer and one of the
- 7:17Speaker 1: things he hit home all the time is that you
- 7:19Speaker 1: won't be on the field if you don't block. So
- 7:21Speaker 1: you might have the best hands on the team. You
- 7:23Speaker 1: might have track speed. We're never going to see it
- 7:27Speaker 1: if you're not going to block. And I feel like
- 7:28Speaker 1: that attitude kind of went away with Urban. And it
- 7:32Speaker 1: feels like for the first time it's back. But talk
- 7:34Speaker 1: about what that actually brings to the table here offensively.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yeah. So when you get those initial blocks from the
- 7:41Speaker 2: offensive line, like that, that's great. And that's what gets
- 7:44Speaker 2: you those, those medium, you know, five to seven yard carries.
- 7:47Speaker 2: And a lot of times when, just when the offensive
- 7:48Speaker 2: lines blocking is good and you have Jaden ball, you
- 7:51Speaker 2: can also get some big time explosives. So where you
- 7:53Speaker 2: really get those explosives is when the old lines blocking well,
- 7:56Speaker 2: and then your wide receivers and your tight ends are
- 7:58Speaker 2: getting a hat on a hat. And they're getting and
- 8:00Speaker 2: they're inserting on these safeties and these nickel cornerbacks. And
- 8:04Speaker 2: that's how you get those explosives where I'm at the
- 8:06Speaker 2: second level and I'm balling. I'm able to cut off
- 8:10Speaker 2: Amir Jackson's block. I'm able to cut off Dallas Wilson's block.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Dallas Wilson was out there. doing some dirty work and
- 8:16Speaker 2: getting physical. I loved how he was so happy. He
- 8:19Speaker 2: was so, he was pancaking guys and he was getting
- 8:21Speaker 2: up and just, you saw the energy. I think a
- 8:23Speaker 2: lot of us have seen the Amir Jackson pancake took
- 8:26Speaker 2: his man 20 yards down the field, buried him. And
- 8:29Speaker 2: my favorite part is after he buried him, he just
- 8:31Speaker 2: got up and like jogged back to the huddle.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Like nothing happened.
- 8:34Speaker 2: It was amazing, but it can, it can do so
- 8:36Speaker 2: much for the run game. But I think the biggest
- 8:39Speaker 2: thing is it's just, it's just infectious. Like when everybody's
- 8:42Speaker 2: blocking like that, it creates a mindset on the offense.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Like we are going to go out and physically dominate.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Like I think this passing game can be very good,
- 8:51Speaker 2: but this team is going to run the football and
- 8:54Speaker 2: they're going to run it well. And I think they are,
- 8:56Speaker 2: have made it clear to anybody that's going to be
- 8:58Speaker 2: on the field. I don't care where you're lining up.
- 9:00Speaker 2: You're going to block and you're going to give everything
- 9:02Speaker 2: you've got. And I think that's been really the biggest
- 9:05Speaker 2: transition from Florida last year and years past to now 2026, Florida.
- 9:09Speaker 1: It sounds like you saw a ton that you think
- 9:12Speaker 1: is sustainable from you know, on film, but was there
- 9:16Speaker 1: anything on that FAU tape where you said like, man,
- 9:19Speaker 1: they got away with that on Saturday, but they are
- 9:21Speaker 1: not going to get away with that against an sec
- 9:23Speaker 1: defensive line.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Well, I I'd say the number one thing is Harrison
- 9:27Speaker 2: Morris snaps. That was, that was like right away in
- 9:30Speaker 2: terms of plays. Like there really was not that much
- 9:33Speaker 2: like bad. Of course there were plays that, like I said,
- 9:35Speaker 2: that went for one yard, two yard, no gain type
- 9:37Speaker 2: of things. Sometimes defense is just in a good position
- 9:39Speaker 2: and you don't run into a good look. But that's
- 9:42Speaker 2: the biggest thing for me is Harrison Moore had a
- 9:44Speaker 2: great day, too. This is an athletic center. You're going
- 9:47Speaker 2: to run a lot of outside zone and a lot
- 9:49Speaker 2: of gap scheme, a lot of power encounter in this
- 9:52Speaker 2: Buster Faulkner offense. And so everything he was doing, you
- 9:55Speaker 2: get a lot of screen game, too. There was a
- 9:56Speaker 2: screen where Harrison Moore got out, got on a linebacker
- 9:59Speaker 2: and put him in the dirt.
- 10:00Speaker 3: There's so many things that he is doing. That's fantastic.
- 10:03Speaker 2: But that will all be for now if you're snapping
- 10:06Speaker 2: the ball over everybody's head. And Philo really saved him
- 10:10Speaker 2: a couple of times. Obviously, the one to ball was
- 10:12Speaker 2: just way too high. And thankfully, ball was able to
- 10:15Speaker 2: save that. But Philo, I mean, got up and it
- 10:17Speaker 2: was like on his fingertips as he was reaching into
- 10:19Speaker 2: the air. He just like one hand OBJ brought it down.
- 10:22Speaker 2: He's really lucky there was not more than one true
- 10:24Speaker 2: fumble off of those snaps.
- 10:26Speaker 3: But you just can't have that. There was there was
- 10:28Speaker 3: multiple times.
- 10:28Speaker 2: And and he's lucky that I believe one of them
- 10:31Speaker 2: was was a pass play where they were trying to
- 10:33Speaker 2: take a deep shot and it wasn't there. But if
- 10:36Speaker 2: and if I said to completely run around and end
- 10:38Speaker 2: up kind of like basically getting sacked. The problem is, like,
- 10:41Speaker 2: if you do that in those big games, in those
- 10:43Speaker 2: big moments, when you do dial up a deep shot
- 10:45Speaker 2: and let's say that deep shot just so happens to
- 10:47Speaker 2: be there and we can't take that deep shot because
- 10:49Speaker 2: you have a bad snap. Well, that's going to be
- 10:51Speaker 2: a problem. And I can guarantee I can literally see
- 10:53Speaker 2: the look on Trout's face in the film room. I
- 10:55Speaker 2: think he has one leg up on one of the
- 10:57Speaker 2: seats and he's just looking down and he's like, we
- 11:00Speaker 2: just got to get it fixed. You're just going to
- 11:01Speaker 2: have to just constantly take snaps. I mean, he is
- 11:04Speaker 2: I'm telling you right now he is going to make
- 11:05Speaker 2: him he is probably doing 100, 150 snaps pre pre practice,
- 11:10Speaker 2: post practice like there.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Trust me, Trout is on top of that.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Uh, it's, it's, it's a problem that we saw a
- 11:16Speaker 2: little bit at Georgia tech as well, but there is
- 11:20Speaker 2: not going to be for a lack of trying if
- 11:21Speaker 2: that does not get fixed.
- 11:22Speaker 3: And I think it will get fixed.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Uh, I think the, my only worry though, is, is
- 11:28Speaker 2: it a little bit of like, just kind of like
- 11:29Speaker 2: the yips?
- 11:30Speaker 1: Like I was going to ask you, like, so my
- 11:32Speaker 1: hunter was, my husband was a punter. So I'm pretty
- 11:34Speaker 1: familiar with kickers and punters and you kind of, you know,
- 11:37Speaker 1: get the yips. I have a son that is a
- 11:39Speaker 1: long snapper, same kind of concept. Is that something that,
- 11:42Speaker 1: where it's more mental than anything else. And, and how
- 11:45Speaker 1: much harder is that to work your way out of?
- 11:48Speaker 2: Yeah, it definitely looks mental because when I was watching
- 11:51Speaker 2: on the, on the reps from the all 22, where
- 11:52Speaker 2: you can see his hand, there was a couple of
- 11:54Speaker 2: times on the bad snaps, you could see it. And
- 11:56Speaker 2: it was, it didn't look like wrong. It wasn't like
- 11:59Speaker 2: he was holding onto it too long. And that's why
- 12:01Speaker 2: it was drifting. He was just releasing it and flicking
- 12:04Speaker 2: it straight up. And every snap was high and right. So,
- 12:07Speaker 2: I mean, that's the good news. It's not like they're
- 12:09Speaker 2: completely errant going right, low, all that. every single thing
- 12:13Speaker 2: was high and right. So I think that's something you
- 12:15Speaker 2: can try to work on and pinpoint that a little bit.
- 12:18Speaker 2: But I definitely think this is a mental aspect and
- 12:21Speaker 2: he's just going to have to take a million reps.
- 12:24Speaker 2: And like I said, is going to drill that into
- 12:26Speaker 2: him and they are going to be working on that constantly.
- 12:29Speaker 3: I'm sure.
- 12:29Speaker 2: And just like, I could, once again, I could just
- 12:31Speaker 2: hear him. I know trout would like woke up at
- 12:32Speaker 2: like 3am and was thinking about it. And then he'll
- 12:34Speaker 2: go and share that with the team guys. I didn't
- 12:36Speaker 2: sleep last night because we couldn't snap the football. We
- 12:38Speaker 2: need to be able to snap the football so I
- 12:40Speaker 2: can get some sleep.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Yeah. I love that.
- 12:43Speaker 1: You mentioned Aaron Filo, and he bailed Harrison Moore out
- 12:47Speaker 1: a couple of times. He wasn't sacked against Florida Atlantic
- 12:50Speaker 1: at all. When you watched the tape, did he actually
- 12:53Speaker 1: have a clean pocket most of the night, or did
- 12:55Speaker 1: his ability to get the ball out make the protection
- 12:58Speaker 1: look better statistically?
- 13:01Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I think it was a mixture. But overall,
- 13:02Speaker 3: I mean, the pass pro was really clean.
- 13:04Speaker 2: I think my film breakdown was really just I kind
- 13:06Speaker 2: of just dove into the run game because I was
- 13:08Speaker 2: so excited about that transformation. But I think part of
- 13:12Speaker 2: what the Buster Faulkner offense is, is it's extremely and
- 13:15Speaker 2: we've heard this quarterback friendly. And there's a lot of
- 13:18Speaker 2: stuff that's going to make it hard for the defense
- 13:20Speaker 2: to be able to get after the quarterback. You also
- 13:23Speaker 2: get a lot of those wide receiver tunnel screens. You
- 13:26Speaker 2: get the ball out quick defensively. But no, I thought
- 13:29Speaker 2: the offensive line looked really good in pass pro. Now,
- 13:32Speaker 2: you know, we'll wait and see when you do get
- 13:34Speaker 2: some tests from some some true SEC defensive linemen.
- 13:38Speaker 3: But especially from the tackles, like I really like what
- 13:41Speaker 3: I saw.
- 13:41Speaker 2: I thought I thought Emeka Yagorji looked very much improved,
- 13:45Speaker 2: not only from Stanford, but even from the spring game
- 13:46Speaker 2: where we saw him have a couple lapses. It looked
- 13:49Speaker 2: really solid. And I'm a huge Bryce Lovett fan. I
- 13:52Speaker 2: was at the time.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:54Speaker 2: I didn't know he was going to go to tackle.
- 13:55Speaker 2: And when I did my first like Florida film breakdown
- 13:58Speaker 2: back in July, I was like, I kind of want
- 14:00Speaker 2: him to start at right guard. Like I really liked
- 14:02Speaker 2: TJ Shanahan, but I don't, I want, I want him
- 14:04Speaker 2: on the field. And I was really excited when we
- 14:06Speaker 2: saw that, Hey, he is going to be the guy
- 14:08Speaker 2: at left tackle. And it looks solid. I mean, he
- 14:10Speaker 2: has such a clean set. His hands are so good.
- 14:13Speaker 2: And he's a very physical guy. He is really the
- 14:16Speaker 2: guy that I think is going to kind of establish
- 14:18Speaker 2: that tone. But overall, I mean, TJ Shanahan was someone
- 14:21Speaker 2: that was always really solid and pass pro at Penn State.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Obviously, I watched him a lot.
- 14:25Speaker 2: So I feel really good about where this offensive line
- 14:27Speaker 2: is at in pass pro. But, but, but Philo did,
- 14:31Speaker 2: I think earlier I said on that Aaron snap that
- 14:33Speaker 2: he was sacked.
- 14:33Speaker 3: You're right.
- 14:34Speaker 2: He was, I think he just ended up throwing it away.
- 14:36Speaker 2: So he does a good job too. And that was
- 14:38Speaker 2: kind of the plus side. of Philo was at times,
- 14:42Speaker 2: he really does know when to throw the football away.
- 14:46Speaker 2: We did see last year, there were some times where
- 14:47Speaker 2: he will make some very dumb mistakes, but I think
- 14:49Speaker 2: that's kind.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Of going to go away, especially as he becomes the starter.
- 14:52Speaker 2: And I think that's something that Buster Faulkner has really
- 14:55Speaker 2: harped on with him, especially because they came over here together.
- 14:57Speaker 2: He probably said to father, look, those, those mistakes you made,
- 15:00Speaker 2: I need you to make smarter ones. I need you
- 15:02Speaker 2: to get rid of the football when nothing is there.
- 15:04Speaker 2: And from game one, it did look like he took
- 15:08Speaker 2: that advice and did a good job of keeping himself clean,
- 15:11Speaker 2: not just the offensive line, keeping him clean. Yeah.
- 15:13Speaker 1: I mean, I think we, we saw why he was
- 15:15Speaker 1: named the starter. You talked a lot about the run
- 15:18Speaker 1: game in your, in your breakdown, but How good was
- 15:21Speaker 1: Florida at getting off its initial block and getting to
- 15:24Speaker 1: the linebackers at that second level? I feel like that's
- 15:26Speaker 1: an area where you can turn those four-yard runs into
- 15:30Speaker 1: 15-yard runs.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 15:32Speaker 2: And I think that's somewhere where I saw the center
- 15:35Speaker 2: and guards did a really good job. This is where
- 15:37Speaker 2: Harrison Moore is so good because he's so athletic at
- 15:40Speaker 2: kind of hitting that defensive tackle over, allowing TJ Shanahan
- 15:44Speaker 2: and crew to be able to take over those blocks
- 15:46Speaker 2: and then getting up on the linebackers. And I think
- 15:48Speaker 2: that's where you saw some of those big explosive runs.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Anytime you're able to get up And especially when you
- 15:54Speaker 2: have ball, all you got to do is give them
- 15:55Speaker 2: a little bit like that's the biggest thing. When you
- 15:57Speaker 2: get up on the linebacker, it doesn't need to be
- 15:59Speaker 2: some dominant block where you're pancaking the linebacker. It's great
- 16:02Speaker 2: if it is, but we just need to get a
- 16:04Speaker 2: little bit to give ball a little bit of that crease.
- 16:07Speaker 2: And I noticed them getting up on the linebackers quicker
- 16:10Speaker 2: and something I will share. This is something that Phil
- 16:12Speaker 2: Troutwine really brought back when he went to go study
- 16:14Speaker 2: under Jeff Stoutland, who was the Eagles offensive line coach,
- 16:17Speaker 2: who's now semi-retired. He's considered one of the best offensive
- 16:20Speaker 2: line coaches in football anywhere.
- 16:22Speaker 3: He came back.
- 16:23Speaker 2: And Trout's big thing that he told us is like, hey,
- 16:25Speaker 2: we're going to stop being super obsessed with the down lineman. Like,
- 16:28Speaker 2: you got to take care of the down lineman first.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Don't get me wrong. But we're going to accelerate and
- 16:33Speaker 2: get up on the linebackers. And the goal is, hey,
- 16:35Speaker 2: we just want to create enough space where our running back,
- 16:38Speaker 2: especially once again, when you have ball where he can
- 16:40Speaker 2: just kind of the angles and he can set it up.
- 16:42Speaker 2: The block doesn't need to be perfect on the linebacker.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Let's just create some space and open up some gaps
- 16:47Speaker 2: for him. And that was something that I really noticed.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Another big difference last year when I watched the tape,
- 16:52Speaker 2: there was a lot of waddling. There was a lot
- 16:53Speaker 2: of like kind of hanging on that down lineman. And
- 16:56Speaker 2: it's good to secure that. But at the same time,
- 16:58Speaker 2: when you kind of claw, sometimes you clog up those
- 17:01Speaker 2: gaps yourself as an offensive lineman, because if I'm looking
- 17:04Speaker 2: at I'm ball and my guard isn't getting up to
- 17:06Speaker 2: the back or fast enough and he's just kind of
- 17:08Speaker 2: sitting in that gap. Well, I can't go, but if
- 17:10Speaker 2: he gets up on the linebacker and even if he
- 17:12Speaker 2: only just gets a paw on him, at least I
- 17:14Speaker 2: can make a cut off of that block and there's
- 17:15Speaker 2: so much more space. So I noticed them getting up
- 17:18Speaker 2: to the linebackers a lot faster.
- 17:21Speaker 1: So if you're an opposing defensive line coach preparing for
- 17:24Speaker 1: Florida right now, where are you attacking this offensive line? Oh.
- 17:29Speaker 3: That's a good question.
- 17:31Speaker 2: You know, I would say I still really want to
- 17:34Speaker 2: see Emeka Yagorji against a good defensive end and pass pro.
- 17:38Speaker 2: I still think there's a little bit of a question
- 17:40Speaker 2: for me on his anchor. There was one play where
- 17:42Speaker 2: he got pushed right back into Philo. One of the
- 17:45Speaker 2: defensive ends on FAU kind of gave him like a
- 17:47Speaker 2: long arm and walked him back. that's something I would
- 17:50Speaker 2: be looking at. I'll tell you what though, this, I mean,
- 17:53Speaker 2: this is a, and when I look at this group,
- 17:55Speaker 2: I'm like, this is a physical group across the board.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Cause TJ Shanahan is nasty. We know how nasty Bryce
- 18:00Speaker 2: love it is. I thought Harris had a physical day.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I mean, he was pulling and destroying guys, playing dudes
- 18:07Speaker 2: in the dirt. And then big Rod, Rod Kearney, when
- 18:10Speaker 2: he got in, I listen, like I Harris had such
- 18:13Speaker 2: a good day. I'm not saying like you're at such
- 18:16Speaker 2: a good situation. I'm not saying he should take over
- 18:18Speaker 2: any spot, but I think that's going to be someone
- 18:20Speaker 2: we're going to continue to see trout rotate in. And
- 18:23Speaker 2: I don't love the whole rotation thing, but I'm watching
- 18:25Speaker 2: his tape and I'm like, it's going to be hard
- 18:27Speaker 2: not to, not to keep this guy in. So, you know,
- 18:29Speaker 2: coming off of week one, it was just such a
- 18:33Speaker 2: dang good offensive line performance.
- 18:35Speaker 3: I'll tell you this.
- 18:36Speaker 2: It, Out of all the offensive line I watch, I
- 18:39Speaker 2: would say Iowa was number one because they're always number one.
- 18:42Speaker 2: It feels like in the O-line, they're just always good.
- 18:44Speaker 2: They always produce that.
- 18:46Speaker 3: Right.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Florida was probably the second best offensive line I watched.
- 18:50Speaker 2: And just from a standpoint of technique, of being where
- 18:52Speaker 2: they need to be, communication, All of those little things.
- 18:56Speaker 2: And so where I sit today, it's hard for me
- 18:58Speaker 2: to pinpoint just because of the performance was just that good.
- 19:01Speaker 2: But if you asked me if I have one question,
- 19:04Speaker 2: it would still be Yegorji in pass pro, especially as
- 19:07Speaker 2: he starts to face some of those real SEC defense events.
- 19:11Speaker 1: What do you think has to happen between week one
- 19:14Speaker 1: and SEC play for you to say like, OK, legitimately
- 19:19Speaker 1: really good SEC caliber offensive line?
- 19:23Speaker 2: I'd say a couple more weeks like the tape that
- 19:25Speaker 2: I just watched. I think that'd be the biggest inconsistency.
- 19:28Speaker 2: If I turn on next week or the week after
- 19:31Speaker 2: and I'm like, okay, that didn't look the same.
- 19:33Speaker 3: We didn't look as physical or we didn't look as confident.
- 19:36Speaker 2: That would make me say, okay, I don't know if
- 19:38Speaker 2: I'm all the way sold on this offensive line, but
- 19:40Speaker 2: if you put together two more performances where it is physical,
- 19:44Speaker 2: where everybody seems to be on the same page and
- 19:47Speaker 2: you know, and you have one of the best running
- 19:49Speaker 2: backs in America and, I'm going to be hard-pressed not
- 19:52Speaker 2: to say that. I think Florida, it kind of felt
- 19:55Speaker 2: like in the offseason, Florida was that sleeper team in
- 19:58Speaker 2: the SEC and maybe one of the favorite picks to say, hey,
- 20:00Speaker 2: if someone's going to ruin the party, who's it going
- 20:03Speaker 2: to be?
- 20:03Speaker 3: And a lot of people said Florida.
- 20:05Speaker 2: I feel even more confident about that pick now because
- 20:08Speaker 2: of the offensive line. And everybody would say, Florida, if
- 20:12Speaker 2: the offensive line can be okay.
- 20:13Speaker 3: That was always the but or the if.
- 20:17Speaker 2: And I think it looks dang good. And so that's
- 20:20Speaker 2: why I'm sitting here. I'm saying, look, I'm I'm liking
- 20:23Speaker 2: what Florida is putting out. I think you're in a
- 20:25Speaker 2: good situation. You have one of the best. I mean,
- 20:28Speaker 2: I've studied him all the way through. I think it's
- 20:30Speaker 2: very well has a has a claim to the best
- 20:32Speaker 2: offensive coordinator in all of college football with how he
- 20:35Speaker 2: schemes things up. I'm I'm buying all my stock in
- 20:39Speaker 2: Florida right now, especially over these next couple of games,
- 20:42Speaker 2: if it still looks the same.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Does Florida have an NFL offensive lineman on the roster
- 20:47Speaker 1: right now? And if so, who is it?
- 20:49Speaker 3: Oh, that's a good one.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Originally, I would say Harrison Moore, but if your snaps
- 20:56Speaker 2: continue to be bad, you're not going to get drafted.
- 20:58Speaker 3: At center, I'll tell you what. Oh, that's a really
- 21:03Speaker 3: good question.
- 21:04Speaker 2: I think Bryce Lovett absolutely has the talent because he
- 21:07Speaker 2: has the athleticism. His feet, I think, is the best
- 21:09Speaker 2: feet on this entire team in terms of pass pro,
- 21:12Speaker 2: how he accelerates the nastiness. I think there's a question
- 21:15Speaker 2: of him as a tweener. He would absolutely be a
- 21:17Speaker 2: guard in the NFL. And then it's kind of like, hey,
- 21:20Speaker 2: that physicality aspect, I know he has it, but I
- 21:23Speaker 2: think there would be maybe a little bit of a
- 21:25Speaker 2: question of can he be a little bit bigger if
- 21:27Speaker 2: he's at guard? But that would be my pick. I...
- 21:30Speaker 2: From everything that I've seen, I came away from watching
- 21:32Speaker 2: it last year. And I, you know, I know out
- 21:35Speaker 2: at tackle, there was a couple of games where he
- 21:36Speaker 2: had some problems. I think Cassius from Texas A &
- 21:39Speaker 2: M gave him some problems.
- 21:40Speaker 3: He gave everybody. It was not easy for anybody. I
- 21:44Speaker 3: think that's my pick.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I think if I had to pick my, my favorite
- 21:47Speaker 2: offensive line and really the best offensive lineman on the squad.
- 21:50Speaker 2: I think I'm going to go Bryce Leavitt. And that's
- 21:52Speaker 2: why I was saying, like, I like TJ Shanahan. But
- 21:54Speaker 2: in the offseason, I'm like, I think he should start
- 21:56Speaker 2: when we thought it was just going to be a
- 21:57Speaker 2: right guard. Because he's just that good. He brings too
- 22:00Speaker 2: much good to the table. But I am really high
- 22:04Speaker 2: on Big Rod, man.
- 22:05Speaker 3: I'll tell you what.
- 22:06Speaker 2: I think he is going to be one heck of
- 22:08Speaker 2: a guard.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Obviously, he's in his fourth year right now. I'd like
- 22:11Speaker 3: to continue to get him on the field.
- 22:13Speaker 2: You're in a situation that's a good situation to have
- 22:15Speaker 2: where it's a bit of an embarrassment of riches where
- 22:17Speaker 2: you feel really good about your two starting guards. But
- 22:20Speaker 2: I know Trout, and I think he's going to continue
- 22:22Speaker 2: to do this kind of rotation stuff. And I know
- 22:25Speaker 2: that's a lot of fans don't like that. I didn't
- 22:27Speaker 2: like it when I had to rotate at left guard
- 22:29Speaker 2: when I was kind of technically the starter, but I
- 22:31Speaker 2: still had to come out for some series. But when
- 22:34Speaker 2: you have guys playing at that high of a level,
- 22:36Speaker 2: it's hard to keep them off of the field.
- 22:38Speaker 3: But, yeah, that's where I'll go. I'll go Bryce Lovett
- 22:41Speaker 3: for my NFL offensive lineman.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I do think you are calming some Gator fears who
- 22:45Speaker 1: just spent the last, you know, however many years very
- 22:48Speaker 1: stressed about the offensive line. But we are going to
- 22:50Speaker 1: have Georgia and Texas and Oklahoma and just some of
- 22:53Speaker 1: these elite fronts coming down the line. What part of
- 22:57Speaker 1: this offensive line's game is going to determine whether you
- 23:01Speaker 1: still love this offensive line after they play some of
- 23:04Speaker 1: those elite programs?
- 23:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the biggest thing when you list off
- 23:08Speaker 2: some of those defensive lines that have had big, physically
- 23:11Speaker 2: super gifted defensive linemen is the physicality aspect. When we
- 23:16Speaker 2: do run counter, when you're down block and we're pulling
- 23:19Speaker 2: these guys around, how much movement are you getting? Are
- 23:22Speaker 2: you really able to take another man that's not on
- 23:24Speaker 2: FAU and just move him.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Against his will? How do those combo blocks look?
- 23:30Speaker 2: When Georgia is slanting the front with a former five
- 23:33Speaker 2: star defensive tackle that is showing why he's a five star.
- 23:36Speaker 2: And can you handle that movement? So that's that's the
- 23:39Speaker 2: biggest thing for me would be the physicality piece. Does
- 23:42Speaker 2: that take a backseat when you start to play a
- 23:46Speaker 2: lot better defensive lines? And then I think the other piece, too,
- 23:49Speaker 2: is definitely in pass pro when you start to become
- 23:52Speaker 2: challenged a lot more and more where you get defensive
- 23:54Speaker 2: coordinators that are going to scheme up defensively. to give
- 23:58Speaker 2: their defensive line one-on-one opportunities where you Gorgie where love
- 24:01Speaker 2: it are one-on-one in pass pro against the wide nine.
- 24:05Speaker 2: And it gets real lonely when you're in those situations
- 24:08Speaker 2: out at tackle. How do you fare against a top
- 24:10Speaker 2: tier sec defensive end?
- 24:12Speaker 1: All right. Well, all of that being said by November,
- 24:16Speaker 1: are we talking about this offensive line as an average
- 24:19Speaker 1: sec line as a weakness or as one of Florida's
- 24:23Speaker 1: strengths on this team?
- 24:24Speaker 2: I listen, I, I think we're going to talk about
- 24:27Speaker 2: it as one of the strengths, especially if Harrison Moore
- 24:29Speaker 2: gets the snapping under control. I really think it can be,
- 24:33Speaker 2: especially because of the depth that you have. You know,
- 24:36Speaker 2: I think that's a big aspect, you know, a knock
- 24:39Speaker 2: on wood, of course, don't want any injuries, but if
- 24:42Speaker 2: someone does go down, it happens. You feel really good
- 24:45Speaker 2: about kind of where you're at now, more so at
- 24:47Speaker 2: a tackle. I don't feel necessarily as good, but on
- 24:50Speaker 2: the interior, like I think we're in a good place
- 24:52Speaker 2: if that were to happen.
- 24:53Speaker 3: So I think that makes you feel good.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Depth doesn't really exist much in college football on the
- 24:58Speaker 2: offensive line.
- 24:59Speaker 3: So anytime you.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Have even one or two guys that you feel like
- 25:02Speaker 2: can play that are not starting.
- 25:04Speaker 3: I think that's a big plus. So I'm going to
- 25:06Speaker 3: say that I think it's going.
- 25:07Speaker 2: To be a strength and I think it is going
- 25:08Speaker 2: to be, you know, middle upper middle pack of the
- 25:12Speaker 2: SEC in terms of offensive line.
- 25:15Speaker 3: I am firmly a believer.
- 25:16Speaker 2: We'll definitely check back in, especially as we get into
- 25:19Speaker 2: SEC play. But as it sits here today, from the
- 25:21Speaker 2: cohesiveness to the technique to the physicality, That's why I
- 25:26Speaker 2: say this looked like one of the best offensive lines
- 25:28Speaker 2: across the board in week one, and I don't care
- 25:30Speaker 2: about the opponent. Once I watched Alabama, Alabama did not
- 25:33Speaker 2: look good against ECU up front. There was tons of mistakes,
- 25:37Speaker 2: and those guys were getting whooped up on from time
- 25:39Speaker 2: to time against that defensive line, and I did not
- 25:41Speaker 2: see that from this Florida offensive line.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Well, listen, Gator fans are going to be pumped to
- 25:46Speaker 1: hear it. Landon, tell everybody where they can follow you
- 25:48Speaker 1: on social media and check out your work on YouTube
- 25:50Speaker 1: and anywhere else they can find it.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you can just find me, Landon Tangwall, on Twitter.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I do a lot of film cut-ups on there. And then, yeah,
- 25:57Speaker 2: Landon Tangwall's college football show on YouTube. I do a
- 26:01Speaker 2: ton of film breakdowns of all around the SEC, ACC,
- 26:04Speaker 2: all that type of stuff. I do some big-time stuff
- 26:07Speaker 2: as well. So we'll have a lot of that coming.
- 26:09Speaker 2: I also do preview film breakdowns. So not only will
- 26:12Speaker 2: I do post-game stuff where I show you what happened–
- 26:14Speaker 2: I will also preview. So I think I'm doing both
- 26:17Speaker 2: Big Ten SEC crossover matchups this week. I'm going to
- 26:20Speaker 2: do Bryce Underwood and re-breakdown Bryce Underwood against Brent Venable's
- 26:24Speaker 2: defense from last year. I am not a believer at
- 26:27Speaker 2: all in Underwood. I don't think anybody is.
- 26:29Speaker 3: After that game.
- 26:30Speaker 2: And then I'm going to kind of preview that Texas
- 26:31Speaker 2: defense versus Ohio State's offense. So if you're interested in
- 26:35Speaker 2: any of that, you can definitely check that out. But
- 26:36Speaker 2: we will have more Florida content on my channel in
- 26:39Speaker 2: the very near future.
- 26:40Speaker 3: All right.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Well, we appreciate you joining us, and I appreciate you
