Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey guys, welcome back to Skin Anarchy.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: This is a very special episode for us because it's our 700th episode and that is really special to me because when I started this podcast, I was just you know a consumer looking for really really great products that resonated with me that made me feel like I fit into this industry.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: I know a lot of you can relate growing up there were hurdles, you know, along the way of like finding products that were great for you or just being able to trust recommendations.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: And for me, that was definitely a journey.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: And so when I started the show, it was with that enthusiasm, and I got to meet such phenomenal people along the way so far.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, we started off with a huge focus on beauty editorial and understanding how editors think, um, how some of the greatest minds and beauty from a journalistic perspective, how they're thinking and how they approach beauty, because they were, you know, growing up for me, they were the experts.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: You know, I was a total magazine girl through and through, and I think you know, that's what what our beginnings really were were this understanding of like what is beauty, you know, who makes the beauty, who makes these products, who's behind them, and you know, that evolved with us featuring the most phenomenal brands I think that exist in the beauty industry, the wellness industry, the hair care fragrance, um, all of the beautiful areas that we've touched upon so far with the show, these are the brands that we all grew up and looking at and you know, kind of grew up with.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: And so it's been really an honor to be able to host the guests that we've had on, to learn from them.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: More importantly, I can't even express to you guys that you know I think my favorite part about being able to create this space with you has been this idea that we're learning together.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I learn every time I interview a guest, and I hope that you guys are, you know, kind of on my side of the chair and the mic and really learning with me.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: And I I just am always in awe of how much knowledge there is, you know, whether that's ingredients or understanding how cosmetics is manufactured, what it takes to create a great brand from the business perspective, or understanding where people like celebrities and thought leaders and visionaries fit in to really create a full experience for us, you know.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Um, I think that is so exciting to think about that to understand how everything works.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: You know, that is our goal um at Skincare Anarchy.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: That's my goal.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: And I hope that you guys, you know, take that away whenever you tune in just as much as I do when I get to talk to somebody new.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: So, all that ranting aside, I also wanted to take this time to discuss some of the great things that we've been able to launch along the way in the last four and a half years.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: We started off as a podcast, but we've evolved.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: We have this beautiful publication now, which many of you might know about.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: It's Eugen Magazine.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: It's our expression in the editorial world of the beautiful features and what we've gained from just interviewing some of the best and most talented personalities in the space.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: We try to, you know, culminate every year into this beautiful piece of work that really amplifies the episodes, the interviews, but also shines a light on some of the most innovative and amazing brands out there.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: And you know, this is something that's very dear to my heart because growing up, I know a lot of you read magazines just like I did, and we used to look at them as just holy grails to us when it came to recommendations, to understanding, the articles that were written, and my dream has always been to highlight that again and to really bring that feeling back in some way.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: And so for me, Eugen really represents that, and I hope that it does resonate with you guys, you know, what we're trying to bring to you through the beautiful artwork and the beautiful placements and and the wonderful guides and content that we create in addition to just our interviews.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: I hope that comes across, and there are some really, really fun things on the horizon with Eugen.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: So if you guys are not already following our Instagram and our socials, please do so.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Everything is going to be linked in the show notes for this episode.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: But check out Eugen because we're trying to make that a platform that goes way beyond just beauty.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: You know, it's a place to really celebrate everything that we love, everything that teaches us, provides knowledge, inspiration, you know, anything that kind of informs us in a non-biased way about things that are, you know, shaping the world of what we consider self-care as consumers.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: And so that's really what we want to bring to you through Yujin and through the efforts that we're doing, whether they're on social media, whether it's highlighting the products we love the most from our spreads, you know, we're just trying to bring you the absolute best of the best so that your life can be a little bit easier and their recommendations you can really rely on.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: So that's Yujin.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: But in addition to Yujin, there's another part of this, and I think this is the most meaningful part to me.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: You know, from this perspective of a scientist, it's very close to my heart.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: I think that a lot of people can resonate with the the vision that I have here, which is the idea of having a safe place in terms of understanding what's really good in the skincare industry from a perspective of science, yeah, perspective of science.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: For example, so many of you out there, you guys know what it's like buying a cleanser or a serum or a moisturizer, wanting to understand that entire inky list, wanting to understand what is this product, why does it matter that this was created?
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Um, what is it gonna do for my skin?
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Is it going to make me feel beautiful at the end of the day?
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: You know, what's the science of it?
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: What's the logic of it?
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: All of that, what I've tried to do is put that into a regulatory framework and create something called the safe seal.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: The safe seal was literally designed from this perspective of not looking at how we've done it so far in the United States when it comes to regulation of cosmetics and over-the-counter products, but really look at it with a fresh lens and understand how the business of these industries works and how that plays a part in what's created and why, and really putting some, you know, kind of I guess context to here's the hypothesis, here's the theory of what this brand is trying to do.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Now, does that actually validate, you know, in the scientific realm?
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: If they're selling you a wrinkle cream, does that wrinkle cream have a backing?
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Like, have they shown it in clinical trials?
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Are there actual results?
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: And then who reviewed that to make sure that the brand was being honest about it, you know, making sure that scientists sit are able to sit down and look at the data and be able to validate that brand's efforts.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: And that is really what the safe tail represents is this peer review of what's being put out there because I know I've seen it, and I'm pretty sure you guys have, that the industry is definitely growing at a very, very rapid pace.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: The skincare industry specifically is you know, it's leaps and bounds ahead compared to what it was five years ago, and it just keeps going.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: And I think a part of the confusion that consumers face is now that we know that, hey, yeah, okay, I should look for a brand that has clinical trials.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: I should look for a brand that can explain to me why they're using the ingredients they're using and what those ingredients do.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: But more so, I also want to understand how does all of that fit together, right?
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Like we all want to understand that.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Why is this the best approach?
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: So that's what the safe seal is here to do.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: It's to review brands and then also provide context for consumers that is really clear, really easy to understand, and trustworthy.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: And so the safe seal is basically a seal that represents that you know what, what this brand is doing and what they're telling you through their marketing is valid because we looked at the science and we looked at it from like multiple different angles, and actual scientists who are experts in their field were part of a review committee that reviewed these products, and they were also part of the committee that put together the criteria that the products have to meet to actually be viable when you're talking about treating the largest organ of our body, which is the skin, you know.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: So that's what we're doing with the safe seal.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: And I'm really excited.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: We have a lot of really cool things that we want to reveal to you in 2025 coming up with the seal.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: I can't wait for you guys to check it out.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: I can't wait to for you guys to respond to what we're doing because I know how passionate all of us are about what we're putting on our bodies, why we're using the products that we're using, and I can't wait to just see this movement grow even more in 2025 and the years to come.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: So, with that all of that being said, I really wanted to take this time and just chat and say thank you first and foremost.
