SPEAKER_00: You are?" As a child, I really struggled with being able to speak if i was

SPEAKER_00: With a group of people I had a hard time even getting any words to come out of my mouth and

SPEAKER_00: i remember

SPEAKER_00: just like not be able to get the words out or thinking my head over and

SPEAKER_00: over I don't know what to say I don't know what to say and just kind of ruminating

SPEAKER_00: over and over and it wasn't just like in speaking to a group of people

SPEAKER_00: but it was also smaller groups and even at times one-on-one conversations

SPEAKER_00: where I really struggled to be able to get the words out and I am so thankful for

SPEAKER_00: the Lord

SPEAKER_00: because he truly did see something in me that i did not see in myself

SPEAKER_00: and he helped me to grow step by step into someone

SPEAKER_00: who is now doing this podcast today and who has done summits and who has spoken

SPEAKER_00: in state conference and to stake relief societies and in different wards

SPEAKER_00: and various capacities and and it's just amazing to be able

SPEAKER_00: to see how far i have come and

SPEAKER_00: and it really was this step-by-step process where first the lord helped me

SPEAKER_00: to be able to start speaking to people one-on-one or then to small groups and then

SPEAKER_00: to a larger group i still remember the first time that i finally believed

SPEAKER_00: and understood that the lord would help me to be able to have the words to be able

SPEAKER_00: to say the words that he wanted me to say

SPEAKER_00: and if he was asking me to give a talk that he would help me to be able to do that

SPEAKER_00: and i remember getting up there in front of my ward congregation and just saying

SPEAKER_00: a little prayer heavenly father okay this is what you want me to do please help me

SPEAKER_00: to be able to speak and to be able to say the words that you want me to say

SPEAKER_00: and i opened my mouth and i began to speak and i to this day still remember

SPEAKER_00: how much peace i felt as soon as i started talking i knew the lord was

SPEAKER_00: with me i knew he loved me i knew he believed in me and every single time after

SPEAKER_00: that i would be really really nervous right before getting out there to speak but

SPEAKER_00: then i would open my mouth and i would be filled with so much peace and i came

SPEAKER_00: to really enjoy speaking

SPEAKER_00: because it brought me closer to the lord and sometimes i'll say

SPEAKER_00: that i'm actually thankful for my anxiety because of how it has helped me to be able
3:41
SPEAKER_00: to deepen my relationship with the lord it has helped me to be able to trust more

SPEAKER_00: in him and has taught me that he loves me through these experiences that i've had in

SPEAKER_00: the hand lead kindly light it says this

SPEAKER_00: lead kindly light amid the uncertain gloom.

SPEAKER_00: Lead thou me on, the night is dark and I am far from home.

SPEAKER_00: keep thou my feet, I do not ask to see, the distant scene one step enough for me."

SPEAKER_00: If i knew everything that the lord would ask me to do as a child

SPEAKER_00: i think i actually would have been frozen in fear but all i needed was that next step

SPEAKER_00: and the lord knew that and so he helped me step by step to be able to be in a place

SPEAKER_00: where i am now where i am consistently each week using my voice to be able to help

SPEAKER_00: to help you see that you are of worth and that he is there for you and

SPEAKER_00: that he will help you to be able to accomplish the things that he is asking

SPEAKER_00: of you he sees who you are and he knows what you are capable of

SPEAKER_00: and as you put your faith and trust in him you will come to see that you are capable

SPEAKER_00: of so much more than you realize so what keeps you from being who god sees in you

SPEAKER_00: in what ways are you not trusting that the lord will help you are you overwhelmed by

SPEAKER_00: a calling or an assignment or opportunity that feels
5:21
SPEAKER_00: beyond your current abilities do you feel prompted to reach out to
5:26
SPEAKER_00: to someone but worry that you won't know what to say do you feel inadequate as
5:31
SPEAKER_00: a parent or a spouse or a ministering sister leader teacher or maybe even a friend

SPEAKER_00: who is going through a hard time and you question if you're even saying
5:42
SPEAKER_00: the right thing to them maybe you're feeling the weight and responsibility
5:47
SPEAKER_00: of providing for your family
5:49
SPEAKER_00: you may be asked to teach a lesson or give a talk or accept a calling
5:55
SPEAKER_00: and immediately think i'm not the right person for this i can't do this

SPEAKER_00: or you may fear being judged maybe you're caring for aging parents or
6:06
SPEAKER_00: a child who's really sick and you wonder if you have the strength to continue on and
6:13
SPEAKER_00: for what lies ahead you may feel prompted to forgive someone
6:18
SPEAKER_00: and wonder if you have the capacity to be able to do it or you may be facing
6:22
SPEAKER_00: a health challenge a financial burden or some other family trial and unsure
6:29
SPEAKER_00: that you can handle the path ahead of you whatever it is that you are going through
6:34
SPEAKER_00: the lord knows you and he sees you and he has the power to help you in
6:43
SPEAKER_00: the scriptures there are so so many scriptures and examples of people who
6:49
SPEAKER_00: the lord calls and they're just like wait you're calling me who am i
6:54
SPEAKER_00: to do this right and one such of those scriptures is in judges chapter six and and

SPEAKER_00: at this time they had turned away from the lord and as a result
7:05
SPEAKER_00: the lord stopped supporting them in the battles that they faced with the people in
7:11
SPEAKER_00: the area

SPEAKER_00: and so they're in bondage to the midianites and recognize and understand that

SPEAKER_00: that they need the lord's help and so they cry out to the lord and and start turning
7:26
SPEAKER_00: towards him and so the lord sends a prophet to deliver them now we're going

SPEAKER_00: to dive more into this prophet and the experiences that he had and his calling

SPEAKER_00: and it says in chapter 6 verse 11 and there came an angel of the lord okay

SPEAKER_00: so here comes an angel of the lord to call this prophet and ask him

SPEAKER_00: to do these amazing things and in verse 12 it says and the angel of
7:55
SPEAKER_00: the lord appeared unto him and said by the way and so this angel appears unto

SPEAKER_00: this prophet whose name is gideon and in verse 12 it says and the angel of

SPEAKER_00: the lord appeared unto him and said unto him the lord is with thee thou mighty man

SPEAKER_00: of valor okay so he's this mighty man of valor that is how the lord sees gideon

SPEAKER_00: as someone who is full of strength full of courage and and full
8:27
SPEAKER_00: of faith okay mighty man of valor

SPEAKER_00: And in verse 15 is Gideon's response.

SPEAKER_00: He says, O my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is poor in Manasseh and

SPEAKER_00: I am the least in my father's house. Okay, do you see the difference between what
8:48
SPEAKER_00: the Lord sees in Gideon and what Gidean sees in himself? Here the Lord

SPEAKER_00: Gideon as a man of valor, of faith

SPEAKER_00: Of strength, of courage

SPEAKER_00: and gideon is like but my family is poor in manasseh like who who am i

SPEAKER_00: to do this i am the least of my family so it's like not only is my family poor

SPEAKER_00: but it's like i am the least like who am i to do this and and you're asking me to be

SPEAKER_00: the prophet and the deliverer of israel okay so how many times do you feel that
9:26
SPEAKER_00: the way that gideon is feeling
9:29
SPEAKER_00: How often do you fail to recognize that you are a mighty man or a mighty woman
9:38
SPEAKER_00: of valor, of faith, of courage, and of strength?
9:42
SPEAKER_00: Because that is what the Lord sees.

SPEAKER_00: And the Lord's response in verse 16, And I,

SPEAKER_00: the Lord,
9:49
SPEAKER_00: said unto him,
9:51
SPEAKER_00: Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Medianites as one man.

SPEAKER_00: Alright, so the Lord says,

SPEAKER_00: the lord lets him know he's already let him know what he sees

SPEAKER_00: of him he right off told him that mighty man of valor right and once again and

SPEAKER_00: and now he's telling him i'm gonna be with you

SPEAKER_00: i'm going to be with you and you can do this okay and then you go through

SPEAKER_00: as we continue with gideon's story we see that it's like a process for him to become

SPEAKER_00: the person that heavenly father sees in him because the first thing that
10:29
SPEAKER_00: the lord asked him to do is to tear down to destroy the altar veil and tear down
10:38
SPEAKER_00: the grove around it and and
10:41
SPEAKER_00: what happens is is gideon's listening to
10:44
SPEAKER_00: the lord right he he knows his focus he knows that he needs to put his faith
10:49
SPEAKER_00: and trust in the lord and so he's like okay the lord's telling me
10:53
SPEAKER_00: that i can do this i'm i'm going to do this
10:55
SPEAKER_00: but he's still there's still some fear there because what happens is
10:58
SPEAKER_00: in verse 27 it says then gideon took 10 men of his servants and did as

SPEAKER_00: the lord had said unto him and so it was because he feared his father's household
11:08
SPEAKER_00: and the men of the city
11:10
SPEAKER_00: that he could not do it by day that he did it by night
11:16
SPEAKER_00: so there's some fear there he's like i'm afraid to get caught doing this thing that
11:22
SPEAKER_00: the lord is asking of him and so he goes at night time to do it and he
11:27
SPEAKER_00: but he does do it he does go out there and destroy the altar of baal and cut down
11:33
SPEAKER_00: the growth of trees and offer a sacrifice unto the lord and i
11:38
SPEAKER_00: And then day comes and people are all like, who did this?
11:42
SPEAKER_00: And they're going around and they're asking and they're trying to figure out who did this.
11:46
SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
11:48
SPEAKER_00: Gideon is saved.
11:50
SPEAKER_00: His father stands up for him and is just kind of saying, you know, will ye plead for Baal?

SPEAKER_00: Like, let him save his altar.

SPEAKER_00: Let him fight for himself kind of thing.

SPEAKER_00: And so Gideon is saved.

SPEAKER_00: which of course the lord knew that that would be the case of course
12:07
SPEAKER_00: the lord's gonna provide a way to make sure that he was protected
12:12
SPEAKER_00: because he had this great work that the lord knew that he could do and
12:18
SPEAKER_00: so we continue on and once again gideon is being asked
12:22
SPEAKER_00: to do something that's scary that's hard and the lord and the lord wants him
12:29
SPEAKER_00: to be able to lead the israelite armies
12:33
SPEAKER_00: into battle against the midianites and it's not just the midianites but
12:36
SPEAKER_00: the malachites and the children of the east they were all gathered together and and
12:42
SPEAKER_00: so at this time gideon is actually leading this group of israelites
12:49
SPEAKER_00: as their commander the lord tells him that he gideon will save israel and even then
12:56
SPEAKER_00: even though he had this experience where he did something hard he listened to
13:00
SPEAKER_00: the lord and he was protected in
13:03
SPEAKER_00: the process he's still like wait what is it is this really what you want me to do

SPEAKER_00: and so verse 36 and gideon said unto god if thou wilt save israel by my hand

SPEAKER_00: as thou hast said behold i will put a fleece of wool in the floor and if the dew be
13:22
SPEAKER_00: on the fleece only and it be dry upon all the earth beside
13:26
SPEAKER_00: then shall i know that thou wilt save israel by mine hand as thou hast said
13:32
SPEAKER_00: okay so even
13:33
SPEAKER_00: the lord has said it he's still like this is this really what you want me
13:37
SPEAKER_00: to do please show me this sign and he's very specific about what the sign is
13:43
SPEAKER_00: because he wants like no doubt here he really just wants to know for sure
13:49
SPEAKER_00: that this is what the lord is asking of him and so he puts a fleece outside the door
13:55
SPEAKER_00: and so he puts this fleece down and and it soaks up this dew

SPEAKER_00: and the ground all around it is dry and that is his sign and so of course

SPEAKER_00: the lord does that gives gideon the sign and even then
14:13
SPEAKER_00: and he says let not thine anger be hot again turned hot against me okay be hot

SPEAKER_00: against me so he's like he knows that he's testing the lord here

SPEAKER_00: but he still has some doubt and he's like please lord do this let's take this sign

SPEAKER_00: a step further i'm gonna put the fleece out again and

SPEAKER_00: and instead of it being covered with dew have the ground covered with dew and
14:39
SPEAKER_00: the fleece being dry and and then i will know that this is what you want me to do

SPEAKER_00: and so he puts the fleece out and the lord once again answers his prayer
14:51
SPEAKER_00: and gives him a sign and the fleece is completely dry but the ground is wet
14:55
SPEAKER_00: with dew all around it and so once again the lord is telling him i am here

SPEAKER_00: with you this is something that you can do

SPEAKER_00: and so that's what happens Gideon takes this army out there to be able to fight

SPEAKER_00: the Midianites and I think the story that follows also shows how the Lord provides

SPEAKER_00: a way for us to do the things that he accomplishes and it's not in the ways

SPEAKER_00: that we expect because here Gideon is leading this Israelite army

SPEAKER_00: and there's about 32,000 men with him and the Lord tells him you have too many men

SPEAKER_00: and I think that the Lord here is trying to teach Gideon a lesson

SPEAKER_00: and not just Gideon but all of the Israelites and us as well he's trying to teach us

SPEAKER_00: that we do not need to fear because we have him in our lives and so

SPEAKER_00: he says all those who are too afraid let them return and depart from mount gilead

SPEAKER_00: which is where they're all gathered and and there returned of the people twenty
16:12
SPEAKER_00: and two thousand
16:14
SPEAKER_00: and there remained ten thousand twenty two thousand men left leaving them with
16:22
SPEAKER_00: a much smaller army of just ten thousand men
16:27
SPEAKER_00: to go up against the midianites these midianite armies and
16:32
SPEAKER_00: the lord says you still have too many men with you you still have too many
16:36
SPEAKER_00: with you bring them down unto the water and i will try them for thee and
16:43
SPEAKER_00: so that's what happened is i go down unto the water and and some of the men rush to
16:49
SPEAKER_00: the water and just put their faces in to drink of the water
16:52
SPEAKER_00: because they're thirsty right
16:55
SPEAKER_00: and some of the men kneel down and they drink from their hands and the lord says

SPEAKER_00: that those who drank from their hands those are the men that you will take with you

SPEAKER_00: to go into this battle and so we're at ten thousand out

SPEAKER_00: of those ten thousand men three hundred okay not three thousand but three hundred

SPEAKER_00: okay 10,000 to 300 let's just get this straight that this is not like a
17:30
SPEAKER_00: a large amount of people but 300
17:33
SPEAKER_00: men are the ones who got down on their knees and put their hands in the water
17:37
SPEAKER_00: and brought their hands, the water with their hands to drink from.

SPEAKER_00: And the Lord says unto Gideon by the 300 men that delivered will I save you

SPEAKER_00: and deliver the Midianites into thine hand
17:50
SPEAKER_00: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.

SPEAKER_00: So Gidean has gone from having 32,000 men

SPEAKER_00: to now just 300

SPEAKER_00: Do you see the lesson that the Lord's trying to teach here?

SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we think that we need this great grand production or that we need
18:12
SPEAKER_00: to do things exactly right,
18:15
SPEAKER_00: but the Lord is actually telling us, hey, you don't need all of that.

SPEAKER_00: all i'm asking is for you to be willing as we put forth that willingness
18:25
SPEAKER_00: the lord helps us to be able to become strong and he provides a way to be able
18:30
SPEAKER_00: to accomplish the things that he has asked of us and it's really interesting
18:36
SPEAKER_00: because what happens is they go and they go to battle
18:40
SPEAKER_00: and those 300 men blow their trumpets and instead of fighting
18:45
SPEAKER_00: the midian knights themselves the midian men midian knights
18:50
SPEAKER_00: get startled and they start fighting each other and that is how the battle is won

SPEAKER_00: and so it was not won in the way in a typical way that

SPEAKER_00: that we would have expected it to happen and a lot of times that is how

SPEAKER_00: the lord works is things do not work out the way that we expect but

SPEAKER_00: as we put our faith and trust in him he helps us to be able to do that

SPEAKER_00: in the book of nephi there's several great examples where the lord put his faith
19:21
SPEAKER_00: and trust in him and the lord helped him to be able to accomplish what it is
19:24
SPEAKER_00: that he wanted nephi to accomplish when nephi was asked to go and get the plates

SPEAKER_00: with his brothers nephi said to his his dad i will go and do the things which
19:36
SPEAKER_00: the lord hath commanded for i know that the lord giveth no commandment
19:40
SPEAKER_00: unto the children of men save he shall prepare a way for him
19:44
SPEAKER_00: to save he shall prepare a way and that's what the lord does and we see it time

SPEAKER_00: and time again in the scriptures and i know that if you stop and really think
19:54
SPEAKER_00: about your life that you can find examples in your own life as well where

SPEAKER_00: the lord has helped you to be able to accomplish the things

SPEAKER_00: that he has commanded you and it's not like we have to do this

SPEAKER_00: perfectly we will make mistakes but those mistakes are not surprises to god they
20:14
SPEAKER_00: that is why we have a savior because our heavenly father knew
20:19
SPEAKER_00: that we would make mistakes that we would need the atonement in our lives
20:25
SPEAKER_00: so understand recognize be humble recognize
20:29
SPEAKER_00: that yeah maybe i shouldn't have done things that way and then ask the lord for help

SPEAKER_00: in fixing it
20:38
SPEAKER_00: or in doing things better the next time and in doing things better the next time
20:44
SPEAKER_00: because he's there for us right and he's going to help us through this whole process

SPEAKER_00: and what i love about gideon's story is that it does show us it is a process

SPEAKER_00: and we just need as it says in lead kindly night one step enough one step forward

SPEAKER_00: and then we can take another step and another step

SPEAKER_00: but let's just start by taking that first step another great example from nephi is

SPEAKER_00: that is when he's building a boat and layman and lemuel see that he's building

SPEAKER_00: a boat and they're just like who are you that you think
21:21
SPEAKER_00: that you can build this boat like it's not gonna float they're they're just like
21:27
SPEAKER_00: putting him down and making fun of them and just like this is not something

SPEAKER_00: that you can do

SPEAKER_00: And Nephi starts telling him about Moses And the things that Moses did And the way

SPEAKER_00: that the Lord led the Israelites out time and time again And reminds his brother

SPEAKER_00: the great things that the Lord has done for them And pretty much says,

SPEAKER_00: you know,
21:52
SPEAKER_00: if the Lord can do all this He can teach me how to build a boat And sometimes
21:58
SPEAKER_00: in our lives we feel like we are building a boat when we don't know how

SPEAKER_00: that the lord guides us and leads us step by step in the women's conference

SPEAKER_00: in 2021 elder ronald rasban says this quote we come to know we come

SPEAKER_00: to know our father by following the example of the savior who stated i came into
22:22
SPEAKER_00: the world to do the will of the father because my father sent me
22:28
SPEAKER_00: so have we come unto the world for the same purpose end quote

SPEAKER_00: we are here to do the will of the lord

SPEAKER_00: not only are we following
22:40
SPEAKER_00: the savior's example in doing this which we are also asked to do is

SPEAKER_00: to become like him but we are also doing the lord's work

SPEAKER_00: of course of course he's going to help us right and he's in this relentless pursuit

SPEAKER_00: of us as we know from elder karen because he loves us and he wants us to succeed

SPEAKER_00: because he loves us right and he's just asking for us to try to take

SPEAKER_00: that one step enough to exercise even a particle of faith

SPEAKER_00: in ether chapter 12 27 and yet sometimes we are the ones who get so caught up

SPEAKER_00: in our own ideas of who we are and in our weaknesses and in our insecurities

SPEAKER_00: that we fail to see that the lord can help us in spite of all of those things

SPEAKER_00: and i love ether 12 27 because it says that i give unto men weakness

SPEAKER_00: that they may be humble
23:41
SPEAKER_00: the lord gives us weakness why because it teaches us to turn to him it teaches us
23:48
SPEAKER_00: to how to rely on him like i said with my anxiety that is something
23:54
SPEAKER_00: that has helped me to be able to grow closer to my savior
23:57
SPEAKER_00: because i know he was there for me and i know that he will sustain me

SPEAKER_00: in doing those things that he has asked of me does that mean there aren't times

SPEAKER_00: that i'm like wait you want me to do what

SPEAKER_00: right so it was a step-by-step process for me to where i first had to learn how

SPEAKER_00: to open my mouth one-on-one with people and then in small groups and then
24:20
SPEAKER_00: in larger groups and then speaking to a whole whole congregation and then i came
24:25
SPEAKER_00: across video and would freeze on video and and i had to learn how to overcome

SPEAKER_00: that barrier to be able to use my voice and it's just the lord saw something in me

SPEAKER_00: and he sees something in you and he will help you in this whole process

SPEAKER_00: i love in first samuel chapter 16 the lord is telling the prophet samuel

SPEAKER_00: that he is going to anoint another to be king and he goes to the house of jesse
24:55
SPEAKER_00: and sees all of jesse's sons and he was like maybe that's the person and

SPEAKER_00: the lord's like no oh what about that son nope what about that son he's like go

SPEAKER_00: on going down the line of sons and the lord's just like nope and it is young david

SPEAKER_00: who the prophet samuel then sees and that is when the lord says that's him and

SPEAKER_00: in verse 7 first samuel 16 7 it says for the lord seeth not as man seeth

SPEAKER_00: for man looketh on the outward appearance but the lord looketh on the heart

SPEAKER_00: sometimes we are looking on this outward appearance and we become more focused

SPEAKER_00: on what others will think of us and we start to criticize ourselves and think

SPEAKER_00: that we are not capable of doing what we feel called to do

SPEAKER_00: of following those promptings of fulfilling our callings of being
25:58
SPEAKER_00: a ministering sister of ministering to others

SPEAKER_00: teaching our kids that the lord looks on our heart and he does not see as we see

SPEAKER_00: and that's why it's so important that we trust in him proverbs 3 5 through 5

SPEAKER_00: and 6 trust in the lord with all thine heart

SPEAKER_00: and lean not unto thine own understanding in all thy ways acknowledge him

SPEAKER_00: a prompting a teen stays connected to the gospel because a leader shows up week
