  Marvel mutants. Today it is Cipher.

  Cipher, also known as Douglas Ramsey, first appeared in The

  New mutants #13 in March 1984. Doug Ramsey is a teenager who
• 0:37
  becomes good friends with Kitty Pride from the X-Men.

  They bond over their love for computers and video games.
• 0:44
  Doug also hangs out with the New Mutants but doesn't realize he's
• 0:47
  a mutant like them. I guess birds of a feather.

  At one point Emma Frost tricks him into thinking he and Kitty
• 0:53
  are dating, All part of her plan to capture Kitty for her own
• 0:56
  shady reasons. It's Emma Frost, what else is
• 0:58
  she going to do? Then this alien called Warlock
• 1:02
  shows up on Earth all confused and scared, but ends up fighting
• 1:05
  the New Mutants. The teen calls Doug and to
• 1:08
  communicate with Warlock, revealing their secret
• 1:10
  identities to him. Doug manages to connect with
• 1:14
  Warlock and ends up joining the New Mutants himself, getting the
• 1:17
  code name Cipher. Because of his crazy talent for
• 1:20
  understanding any language spoken, written, human, alien,
• 1:25
  even computer code, he can crack alien languages in minutes.

  What sets Doug apart is that his mutant ability is more
• 1:32
  intuitive. He solves language puzzles
• 1:35
  subconsciously, almost like telepathy, while a per normal
• 1:38
  person, even a genius, would have to work through it step by
• 1:41
  step. So sometimes he figures out
• 1:44
  things in ways that he doesn't fully understand.

  Besides languages, Doug is also great with computer programming.
• 1:52
  He trains with the New Mutants and picks up some decent
• 1:55
  fighting skills too. He forms a close bond with
• 1:59
  Warlock and even merges with him into a combined form called the
• 2:02
  Gestalt. So when they did combine with
• 2:06
  each other, Doug's body was covered in Warlock's living
• 2:09
  tech, letting Doug see and sense things like Warlock did.

  At first they thought separately inside that body, but the more
• 2:16
  they merged, the more their personality started to blend
• 2:19
  together. Cypher even helped Warlock fight
• 2:21
  his dad, the Magus, by basically reprogramming him back into a
• 2:26
  baby. Later when the New Mutants were
• 2:29
  captured by this crazy scientist animator on an island called
• 2:34
  Paradise, Cypher was killed protecting Wolfsbane from a
• 2:38
  bullet. After Warlock got destroyed too,
• 2:41
  this guy Stephen Lang, who created the Sentinels, brought
• 2:46
  Warlock back but infected him with the Phalanx virus and
• 2:49
  overwrote his mind and with pieces of Doug's brain.

  Warlock took on the name Doug Locke for a while and even
• 2:57
  joined the British team Excalibur, going on lots of
• 3:00
  adventures with them. Then Celine's servant Eli Bard,
• 3:05
  with help from Caliban, resurrected Doug and the
• 3:08
  Hellions using the Transmode virus under Celine's control,
• 3:12
  Doug attacked his old friends, but Warlock helped free him from
• 3:17
  using Magic's soul sword. That's Ileana's soul sword.

  Doug rejoined the New Mutants and helped fight against William
• 3:25
  Stryker and the Purifiers. When Bastion trapped Utopia in a
• 3:30
  Dome and opened a portal to a timeline ruled by Sentinels,
• 3:35
  Doug teamed up with X Force and Cable to stop the Master Mold
• 3:38
  Sentinels controlling the Nimrod Sentinels.
• 3:42
  Seifer was able to connect with the Sentinels and Cable
• 3:45
  sacrificed himself to send them back to their own time.
• 3:50
  After that, Doug went into hiding, living like a hermit
• 3:54
  trying to decode the Internet. That's when Daredevil, Frank
• 3:58
  McGee, and Misty Knight came looking for him to help find
• 4:00
  Wolfsbane's missing body. Doug was hesitant at first, but
• 4:04
  agreed to help. During their mission, they ran
• 4:07
  into Albert, a Cyborg clone of Wolverine who attacked Doug.

  He survived thanks to Frank healing him.
• 4:14
  They eventually found Wolverine's location, and Doug
• 4:17
  admitted to Daredevil that he'd been kind of addicted to the
• 4:20
  Internet and asked for help, which seemed to help him get it
• 4:24
  under control. Later on, Professor X asked Doug
• 4:27
  to help a communication problem in the sentient island Krakoa.
• 4:32
  Doug quickly translated Krakow's true origins and created a new
• 4:36
  language called Krakowan for the mutants living there.
• 4:40
  Together with Sage, he developed a system on the island that uses
• 4:43
  light instead of electricity, helping mutants travel through
• 4:46
  Cocoa's flower gateways and manage things like security and
• 4:50
  observation. At the first meeting of
• 4:52
  Percola's Quiet Council, Cypher spoke for the island itself and
• 4:57
  helped set up the laws for the new mutant society.

  So that is who Cypher is. I think he is quite underrated,
• 5:04
  especially given all he can do. I want to say he's about to be
• 5:10
  the big the big deal when it comes for the new event.
• 5:14
  That's oh, what is it the age of revolution X-Men age of ever
• 5:20
  revolution coming in October. I believe he's the big the big
• 5:25
  deal in that. So hopefully he gets his
• 5:29
  flowers. So what I think you should check
• 5:33
  out comic wise if you want to get to know him even better is
• 5:36
