- 0:20of Fashion Designers of America announced Friday that he is stepping down,
- 0:24days after he was filmed physically restraining two protesters during an altercation
- 0:29at a New York runway show. I am enormously proud of what
- 0:33we have built together, and believe this is the right moment for
- 0:36both me and the organization to begin a new chapter, Stephen Kolb
- 0:40said in a statement. Kolb is stepping down after two decades leading
- 0:44the council, which is known as the fashion industry's main trade organization.
- 0:49The incident Sunday involved the top fashion executive forcibly restraining two employees
- 0:55of people for the ethical treatment of animals and putting his hands
- 0:58over their mouths at the runway show for Cos, a brand owned
- 1:01by H and M, it quickly stunned many in the fashion world.
- 1:06Kolb, who is well known and respected in the New York fashion
- 1:09world, earlier apologized for his actions. He also had announced he was
- 1:13taking a leave from his job, pending an investigation. CFDA described Kolb
- 1:18as a dedicated leader and tireless champion of American fashion. We respect
- 1:22Stephen's decision to step down and are grateful for his many years
- 1:26of leadership and service to the CFDA and our industry, the association
- 1:30said in a
- 1:31statement on social media. Moira Cauley, Senior Director of Media Relations for
- 1:36PETA in New York, said earlier in the week that The
- 1:38group planned to meet with Kolb to discuss ending the use of
- 1:42wool and animal skins in clothing. The organization had initially planned filing
- 1:46a police report against Kolb, but changed course after visiting police and
- 1:51consulting attorneys. PETA issued a statement after Kolb's announcement Friday, saying the
- 1:56group still plan to meet with him, and hopefully others in the
- 2:00industry will meet and take meaningful steps to stop this epidemic of
- 2:04cruelty to animals. The group has also recognized Kolb's previous involvement in
- 2:09getting for band from runway shows on the CFDA schedule. Andrija Barak
- 2:14had been trying to disrupt the runway show on Sunday, calling out
- 2:18slogans about the use of wool. In the video, Kolb is seen
- 2:21covering her mouth with his hands and restraining her with both his
- 2:24arms and a leg over her body, as he seeks to let
- 2:27the show continue. Separately he is seen pushing Mason Melito and also
- 2:32putting his hands over his mouth.
