- 1:40more intentionally. I love you guys, but I'm pumped
- 1:43because this has been a conversation that's been coming
- 1:46up a lot lately, especially just in my conversations with young
- 1:51adults in the local church. I just had a lunch with my
- 1:53little brother Jupe. I love you bro.
- 1:55And this question came up again and so I don't know if you've
- 1:58been. On the Internet as of late, but
- 2:00a lot of the conversation that's been happening in the Christian
- 2:03content world is once saved, always saved.
- 2:07This conversation of salvation. Can I lose my salvation if I put
- 2:11my faith in Jesus? How do I know that Jesus has me
- 2:14forever? Or if I'm living a certain way,
- 2:16or I'm in sin, does that mean that I've lost my salvation?
- 2:21This is a huge thing and this is the work of Satan that this
- 2:24conversation is something that's making people question their
- 2:27salvation, really question Jesus, question God, their walk
- 2:30with him, their faith and him. And so I thought this is
- 2:33something I 100% need to dive into, need to talk about.
- 2:37Let God's word bring truth to light because this is something
- 2:42that I am praying for others because this could get people
- 2:45off of the path of following Jesus.
- 2:47This could have people discouraged in the spirit.
- 2:49This could have. People maybe?
- 2:51Saying, man, what's the point of trying to follow Jesus?
- 2:53What's the point of putting faith in because I can just lose
- 2:56my relationship with him that if I'm struggling or that maybe I'm
- 3:01in sin and I'm, you know, not walking with him faithfully or
- 3:04I'm not doing things that man maybe I don't.
- 3:07Really know Jesus, Maybe Jesus doesn't know me.
- 3:09Maybe I'm not really saved. Man.
- 3:10I want to speak into the heart of that right there because hear
- 3:14me clearly. That is not from God, That is
- 3:17not of God. And if anyone is saying that,
- 3:19that is not from Him. In his word and in his truth and
- 3:23for those right now snicker and going yeah, alright, no man, it
- 3:26is you this in there we going to go through God's word.
- 3:29We go let God's word speak, We going to let him tell us the
- 3:33truth about one say voice, say that can we lose our salvation?
- 3:36And so first I want to go into the the passage, the chapter
- 3:41that people are referring to that is kind of causing a lot of
- 3:44this debate on the Internet world that no, look, this
- 3:47passage right here is saying that we can lose our salvation,
- 3:50but we're going to unpack it. We're going to read context.
- 3:53As I've talked about Great Lakes Christian College, my amazing
- 3:55professors over and over beat it over our heads over and over
- 3:59again. You got to read context.
- 4:01You got to know who the audience is that the writer was writing
- 4:04to. We got to know the time.
- 4:06Period. Who this was meant for?
- 4:08What they're speaking about Who? Who they're talking to because
- 4:11remember, the Bible wasn't written to us, but it was
- 4:14written for us to understand God, to be more like Him, to
- 4:17follow him, to know his teachings and commands so we can
- 4:20we. Got to be careful to not input
- 4:23ourselves or input our time period or read it from our 2026
- 4:26American lens that I'm in. We need to read context, read
- 4:30the verses before the verses, read the whole story, know the
- 4:34whole book, know the point of why it was written, who they
- 4:36were talking to, who it was for, etcetera, etcetera.
- 4:40So if you want to follow along with me, we're going to be in
- 4:42Hebrews chapter 6 and we're going to read verses one through
- 4:466 and we're going to then dive into this whole topic of why
- 4:49this has sparked a debate in the Christian contact world that no
- 4:53people can lose their salvation. Look, it says it right here, but
- 4:56you'll get into it. All right, Yo, thanks for being
- 4:59with me. I'm excited about this.
- 5:00I'm like, yo, this is going to be fun.
- 5:01So Hebrews 6 chapter 1, verse through verse 6 and I'm reading
- 5:06the NLT if people are wondering New living translation.
- 5:09That's why I like to read through and teach through.
- 5:10So verse one says, so let us stop going over the basic
- 5:15teachings about Christ again and again.
- 5:18Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding.
- 5:23Surely we don't need to start again with the fundamental
- 5:27importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith
- 5:31in God the the writer in Hebrews, which again is the
- 5:34debate did did Paul write Hebrews?
- 5:36Some people believe Apollo's wrote Hebrews.
- 5:38We don't really know who the author of Hebrews is, but the
- 5:43author in Hebrews is saying like man, we're having to talk about
- 5:46things. That's basic Christianity again,
- 5:49with people who should be mature in their faith, that were
- 5:52presented the gospel message and put their faith in Jesus a long
- 5:55time. Ago.
- 5:55And now we're having to talk again about things that you
- 5:58should already understand. Or it reminds me of Paul's
- 6:00letter. Which is why I think Paul wrote
- 6:02Hebrews. It reminds me of Paul's letter
- 6:04in First Corinthians chapter 2 where he's saying, like, I'm
- 6:07having to talk to you guys about not quarreling, fighting with
- 6:10each other. Like that's for new believers,
- 6:13man, like young immature believers who are still on milk,
- 6:16not food. They can't even get to the
- 6:18substance of God and, and get deep in his word because they're
- 6:22still fighting with each other. They're still, they're still
- 6:24gossiping about one another. Like man, that is stuff for
- 6:27people who are new to the faith. And same here, the author of
- 6:31Hebrews is saying, like man, we are still talking about like
- 6:34fundamental basic things because you guys still aren't getting
- 6:38it. And so he goes on to say in
- 6:39verse two, you don't need further instruction about
- 6:42baptisms, the laying of hands, the resurrection of the dead and
- 6:46eternal judgment. And so, God willing, we will
- 6:50move toward, to further understanding.
- 6:54It's like, guys, I'm we're still having to talk about, we're
- 6:56still arguing about like baptism and the laying of hands, the
- 6:59resurrection of the dead, the internal judgement.
- 7:01Like we're still arguing through these things.
- 7:04And, and hear me clearly in Hebrews, this author speaking
- 7:08specifically towards Jewish Christians.
- 7:11They're still arguing about things that are from the Old
- 7:15Testament or things through what we would know as the religion of
- 7:18Judaism that this, this the struggle of is Jesus who he says
- 7:23he is? Was he the Messiah?
- 7:25Is he the anointed? 1 They're still debating these
- 7:29further instructions that have already been given to them by
- 7:32these followers of Jesus, the followers of the way, as they
- 7:34were called, the ones who knew Jesus and followed Jesus, that
- 7:37they're arguing about baptism in the laying of the hands, the
- 7:40resurrection, the dead, like what's really going to happen?
- 7:42Because if you didn't know this, even specifically towards the
- 7:45resurrection of the dead, Old Testament theology would have
- 7:48believed that you, you know, die.
- 7:51You die and you were in this kind of like sleep stasis that
- 7:55you are, as Jesus talks about the rich man of Lazarus, The,
- 7:59the, the Lazarus is in Abraham's bosom, that he's in this place
- 8:04of comfort and peace. And then the rich man is in this
- 8:08outer darkness that he separated from God, but knowing where he's
- 8:12at. Theologians have used that story
- 8:15to describe what Old Testament theologians would believe Jewish
- 8:19people to believe that you die and you're just kind of like
- 8:21asleep. You're not anywhere, you're just
- 8:23asleep until the resurrection of the dead, where then we will
- 8:28face eternal judgment. But now we these Christians who
- 8:33have walked with Jesus as Paul talks about in his letters that
- 8:37you know, it's better to be it's better to be away from the body
- 8:40and and with the Lord and Spirit.
- 8:41You know in Philippians. He speaks about how we, you
- 8:44know, go to be with the Lord of Jesus, talks about how I'm going
- 8:47to prepare a place for you that there is this heavenly theology
- 8:52that's developed through Christ and his time and his teaching
- 8:55that we will be present with the Lord, that when we die, we're
- 8:58with him in this heavenly place. Do I know the do I know the full
- 9:02scope of what that means? No, but we have theology that's
- 9:06given that we put our faith in Jesus.
- 9:08When we leave our body here, our spirit will be with the Lord,
- 9:12but then our bodies are still buried.
- 9:15But then when Jesus comes back in the second coming, our bodies
- 9:18will be raised and united with our perfect spirits and perfect
- 9:22bodies now, and we will face that judgement again, those who
- 9:25are in Christ. There is now no condemnation for
- 9:28those who belong to Jesus because they have now eternal
- 9:31life with with God. The the.
- 9:33Earth that we know which other? Was an honest man I'm just going
- 9:36down a bunch of theologies. Listen there's a lot to unpack
- 9:38and I don't I'm not going on all these different rabbit trails.
- 9:40I just want to give you a full picture of this question that
- 9:43they're asking for these Jewish Christians goes back to their
- 9:46Jewish roots and what they had been taught and learned.
- 9:49So even that the earth that we know will be put back to
- 9:54perfection when when God first created the earth and it was
- 9:57perfect before sin. That will be what it will be
- 10:00again, that this will be the new, the new heaven, new
- 10:03heavens, a new earth, the earth will be be brought back to what
- 10:06God intended it to be. And this will be where we will
- 10:08dwell forever. This will be heaven, but
- 10:11perfect. And so they're asking these
- 10:13questions that right there I just gave you kind of a quick,
- 10:16you know, couple minute thing that the Christians had already
- 10:19explained. The followers of the way, the
- 10:20followers of Jesus had explained to these Jewish Christians about
- 10:23baptism, the lane of hands and the resurrection of the dead and
- 10:27eternal judgment. They've already given them this
- 10:30and what Jesus had taught them, and so they're thinking that
- 10:34they've moved on from this, but they're still stuck and asking
- 10:38all these questions about these things that as this writer of
- 10:42Hebrews is saying, like this is fundamental stuff that you're
- 10:44mature in your faith now. This shouldn't be things that
- 10:46are still tripping you up or still causing arguments or
- 10:51causing divisiveness amongst the church that now brothers and
- 10:54sisters are arguing or there's divide occurring in the body,
- 10:58which is of Satan that we are allowing to have.
- 11:01We're allowing Satan to have a. Foothold into the.
- 11:03Church, because you guys are arguing and debating about stuff
- 11:06that you shouldn't be debating and arguing about because that
- 11:09is for new believers, not ones who've been following Jesus for
- 11:13a while now. And so we go into verse 4.
- 11:16It says, For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those
- 11:21who were once enlightened, those who have experienced the good
- 11:25things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted
- 11:30the goodness of the Word of God and the power of the age to
- 11:34come, and who then turn away from God.
- 11:38It is impossible to bring such people back to repentance.
- 11:44By rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing Him
- 11:48to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame.
- 11:55That's where we're going to end right there.
- 11:56We're going to sit there. So the author's saying you guys
- 12:01aren't believing these truths of God's Word, these truths of God,
- 12:06and you're thinking that you still need to do these things,
- 12:09add to the gospel message. And what's happening is as if
- 12:14you are rejecting Christ and now it's like you're nailing him to
- 12:16the crossover and over him that he's got to keep dying.
- 12:19What does that sound like to you guys?
- 12:22What do the Jewish. People do in the Old Testament
- 12:24before Christ came and was the substantiary sacrifice for us,
- 12:29that he took our sins onto himself and died the death that
- 12:32we deserve, that now through our faith in Him we have eternal
- 12:35life. What does that sound like in OT?
- 12:38The Jewish people, the Israelites, God's chosen people,
- 12:41every year had to bring their bring a sacrifice to to Israel.
- 12:47They had to go to the temple and they had to bring an animal.
- 12:51Usually it was like a sheep goat.
- 12:53They would literally input, they would put their sins onto the
- 12:57animal, now the animal represented them, and then they
- 13:01would kill. The.
- 13:02Animal and sacrifice them at the temple before God.
- 13:06That was representing the judgment of their sin, the wrath
- 13:11of God being being met by them putting their sin under this
- 13:15animal. It would take in a sense it
- 13:18would take symbolically their sin onto the animal, but then
- 13:21physically the animal would literally be killed to represent
- 13:25what sin does. The wages of sin are death as
- 13:28Scripture says. And so Old Testament, the Jewish
- 13:30people believe you have to put your sins onto an animal and
- 13:34this is something that had to continuously happen to be made
- 13:37right with God. But obviously, as we read all
- 13:39throughout the Old Testament, people continue to sin, people
- 13:42continue to be wicked, people continue to worship false gods
- 13:45and false idols and continue to be separated from God because of
- 13:49that. And so now as God is looking and
- 13:52he's been working now the story of redemption from Genesis all
- 13:55the way through revelation that can be found, that salvation can
- 14:00be found in Jesus and Christ alone.
- 14:03That Jesus is the lamb, Lamb as we talked about sheep lamb the
- 14:08the Lamb of God, that our sins were put onto the Lamb of God
- 14:13which is Christ Jesus the anointed 1 the Messiah.
- 14:17That Jesus died the death that you and I they deserve because
- 14:20their sin in our lives all have sinned and fought short in the
- 14:23glory of God. But that is finished.
- 14:26What was Jesus's words on the cross?
- 14:28It is finished that he completed it.
- 14:33He was the once and for all sacrifice for our sins.
- 14:36That now once we put our faith in Jesus, you are saved because
- 14:41he completed the work on the cross.
- 14:43That we don't have to do anything to earn our salvation.
- 14:48Ephesians 28 through 9. I love it because it reminds us
- 14:51of this. It says God saved you by his
- 14:53grace when you believed and you can't take credit for this.
- 14:58It is a gift from God. Hear this though, verse 9.
- 15:03Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so
- 15:07none of us can boast about it. God saved us by His grace when
- 15:13we believed. It's through faith.
- 15:17In Jesus that we are saved because of the work that he
- 15:21accomplished, that he took the key to death from Satan, that he
- 15:25beat death, He rose from the grave, He resurrected.
- 15:28That now through our faith in him we will also resurrect from
- 15:32the dead because of what Christ accomplished on the cross
- 15:35through his death and resurrection.
- 15:37It is a gift from God. We cannot earn it.
- 15:41Grace is something we get that we don't deserve, that God gives
- 15:45us salvation through his Son. When we put faith in him that we
- 15:49don't do anything, we can't boast about it.
- 15:51We can't say, man, I did all these good things to get myself
- 15:55to heaven. No, Jesus is the one who paved
- 15:58the way. Jesus said I am the way, the
- 15:59truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father
- 16:01except through me. Faith in Him that we don't need
- 16:05to do things to try to make it happen, but Jesus already
- 16:09accomplished it for us. We just put our faith in his
- 16:13accomplished work that he finished on the cross.
- 16:17And so now we have right here you are rejecting the Son of God
- 16:20because it's like you're trying to nail him to the cross over
- 16:23and over and over again 'cause you're trying to say it's not
- 16:26enough. The Jewish Christians that this
- 16:29author's. Writing to they keep trying to
- 16:32preach this false gospel that is Jesus plus something and we all
- 16:38know it's Jesus plus nothing. That is the gospel message.
- 16:43Jesus plus nothing gives us everything.
- 16:45It's faith in Jesus that we receive eternal life, that we
- 16:48are saved. It's by his works.
- 16:51Not our own. And so we have the Jewish people
- 16:53who are falling into this category of these Jewish
- 16:57Christians are thinking that there's more that needs to
- 16:59happen, that they need to still do something in order to really
- 17:03receive eternal life. But it's interesting because I
- 17:06know the part that's tripping people up is verse 4 says, for
- 17:10it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were
- 17:14once enlightened, those who have experienced the good things of
- 17:18heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the
- 17:22goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come.
- 17:24So people who are saying, well, look though, Pastor Los, it's
- 17:29saying that these people were saved, that they were once
- 17:33aligned, that they even shared in the Holy Spirit.
- 17:36Again, who receives the Holy Spirit?
- 17:38Only those who have put their faith in Jesus a a follower of
- 17:43Christ, a disciple of Christ. They have received the Holy
- 17:47Spirit because of their faith in him.
- 17:48So they're saying, how could someone receive the Holy Spirit
- 17:51and not and, and be saved? And then it's kind of saying
- 17:55here that they could lose the Holy Spirit, that they could
- 17:58lose their salvation. So I want to touch on something
- 18:02because I know that that could be what it seemed when you read
- 18:05at the surface or people who are online trying to say that you
- 18:07can lose your salvation, they're touching on.
- 18:09You'll see, look, it says it right here that people could
- 18:12lose their salvation. First you need to recognize this
- 18:15is speaking about repentance. Repentance is what guys we
- 18:20talked about this last episode turning you're going on a path
- 18:23that's away from that's not how God calls you live his standard
- 18:26of living that he gives to us. You're walking on that path
- 18:30that's disobeying God's standard and call for a life.
- 18:33But then you turn back to God and you follow him that you
- 18:38acknowledge your sin and that you repent of it and turn back
- 18:41to God and follow Jesus. There is all of us are called
- 18:46even those who are saved are called to repent and that's a
- 18:48daily thing that we do in our sanctification process.
- 18:52We repent of our sin when we're going away that we know is not
- 18:55God. It's calling us to go not the
- 18:57way of God. We turn back to God and follow
- 19:00him. But we have to see this.
- 19:02People are using the word salvation, that people, they're,
- 19:05they look, they lost their salvation.
- 19:08The word salvation's not used here.
- 19:10It's the word repentance. So still others think that this
- 19:15penalty deals with only, only with the reward, not with
- 19:19salvation itself. They stress the idea that it
- 19:22says repentance is impossible, not salvation.
- 19:27Therefore, these are Christians of low commitment and experience
- 19:31who risk a loss of all heavenly reward saved only by, as screw
- 19:36says, the skin of their teeth. Or I would like to touch on
- 19:39guys, if you have not read First Corinthians chapter 3.
- 19:43This is something I always go to in this conversation of can you
- 19:46lose your salvation? Paul talks about this and let's
- 19:51start in let's start in verse 10.
- 19:56So First Corinthians chapter 3, verse 10.
- 19:58This is another thing to speak towards.
- 20:00Again, remember in Hebrews it says repentance that they they
- 20:04can't repent of it. It's not doesn't use the word
- 20:06salvation and let me use this and then we're going to go more
- 20:09into, so give me a little bit. We're going to keep pulling this
- 20:11layer by layer. So first Corinthians chapter 3,
- 20:14verse 10, it says because of God's grace to me, I have laid
- 20:17the foundation like an expert builder.
- 20:19This is Paul speaking to the church in Corinth.
- 20:22Now other builders are building on it, but whoever is building
- 20:25on this foundation that's been laid must be very careful.
- 20:29Listen to Paul's heeding warning to the Christians, for no one
- 20:34can lay any foundation other than the one we already have.
- 20:38Jesus Christ. Again, it's Jesus, not you, not
- 20:44your works, not how to earn it. It's he's already earned it.
- 20:47He's the foundation. He's the rock we stand upon.
- 20:50And then verse 12 says this, anyone who builds on that
- 20:53foundation may use a variety of materials.
- 20:57So he kind of gives these two options of people who have put
- 21:01their faith in Jesus. So these are followers of Jesus,
- 21:02these are Christians, these are there's a people not building
- 21:05their foundation, their life, their decisions, the things they
- 21:08think, the things they do, the things they say.
- 21:10This is people building their life upon that foundation, which
- 21:13is Christ. And so he says anyone who builds
- 21:15on that foundation, which is Jesus may have, may use a
- 21:18variety of materials. So he's using these as an
- 21:21analogy. And so an example he says is
- 21:25gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay or straw.
- 21:30But then he says on verse 13, think about those materials,
- 21:33gold, silver, jewels. That's one, one person.
- 21:37And then here's the other person, wood, hay or straw.
- 21:41Remember those two? So anyone who builds on the
- 21:44foundation of Jesus, there's two, there's two people, people
- 21:46who are building on gold, silver and jewels, and people who are
- 21:48building on wood, hay and straw. And then verse 13 says this, but
- 21:51on the judgement day, fire will reveal what kind of work each
- 21:57builder has done. So on judgement day, remember
- 22:00one of the things they're arguing about in Hebrews chapter
- 22:036 is the resurrection of the dead and the eternal judgement.
- 22:08So Paul says on judgement Day, fire will reveal what each
- 22:12worker has done. Verse 13, the fire will show if
- 22:17a person's work has any value. If the work survives, that
- 22:22builder will receive a reward. This is something we'll talk
- 22:26about a lot in the in the church.
- 22:29There is scripture that points to there is crowns in heaven as
- 22:33the as in a revelation. It speaks about the disciples
- 22:35laying their crowns before, before the Lamb of God, before
- 22:39Jesus and praising him. There is crowns.
- 22:41There's a reward to those in heaven.
- 22:43This isn't a reward that we have earned or worked for like in the
- 22:46sense of what we talk about salvation.
- 22:48You can't work to earn your salvation.
- 22:49This is more speaking about how did you live as a follower of
- 22:52Jesus on this earth? Were you someone who put your
- 22:54faith in Jesus and just constantly struggled with sin
- 22:58and lived selfishly and chose your wants and your desires?
- 23:01Did you build your house on wood, hair, straw or did man?
- 23:05Did you receive Jesus and you went and told everybody about
- 23:09it? That you that the seed of faith
- 23:10that grew in you now multiplied to others, that you reached
- 23:13people for Christ, that you died, you denied yourself, you
- 23:16picked up your cross and you followed Jesus faithfully on
- 23:19this earth. You built your life on the
- 23:21foundation of Christ that looked like gold, silver and jewels.
- 23:25Was that how you live? Was that your work?
- 23:28And so Paul says if the work survives, that builder will
- 23:31receive a reward. There is a reward for those who
- 23:34were faithful servants. Did Jesus looked at them and
- 23:38said, well done, my good and faithful servant, that man you.
- 23:40Live this life to really glorify me.
- 23:43Everything. Even though you had suffering,
- 23:46even though you went through hard times, even though you
- 23:48still had trouble. Because Jesus told us that there
- 23:51will be trouble in this world. But take heart.
- 23:54Have overcome this road when you lived a life of hope and joy and
- 23:57peace and and worked for the Kingdom that you loved God with
- 24:01all your heart, mind, soul and strength and you loved your
- 24:03neighbor as yourself when you lived a life that reflect Jesus.
- 24:07Your work will be shown when that fire on Judgment Day is
- 24:11laid to your foundation. The work, if the work survives,
- 24:17because the work was built on Christ and it looked like gold
- 24:20and silver and jewels. And what happens when fire is
- 24:22laid to to the materials of gold and silver and jewels?
- 24:26When it's laid to that it's refined.
- 24:28Man, you step back and you can see your reflection in it,
- 24:31'cause it's so beautiful and it's so pure.
- 24:34Fire to those materials makes it pure and perfect.
- 24:39And he says for that you will receive a reward.
- 24:42But then verse 15. But if the work is burned up,
- 24:48the builder will suffer great loss.
- 24:53Listen here. Listen here.
- 24:55But what does it say to follow it?
- 24:56So listen, Paul says. So your, your work could be
- 24:59burned up. You, you would hay and straw
- 25:01people. Yeah, you knew Jesus.
- 25:04You put your faith in Jesus, but you built your life on wood, hay
- 25:07and straw. That you were really selfish.
- 25:09That you just stayed living in sin.
- 25:11That you never truly surrendered all of you.
- 25:13That you, you kind of loved God, but you kind of gave him half of
- 25:17your life, not all of your life. That you did believe in him,
- 25:20that you did put your faith in him, but you didn't faithfully
- 25:22follow him. You still lived in sin.
- 25:24You still were selfish. You did not deny yourself.
- 25:27You did not pick up your cross, you did not follow him
- 25:29faithfully in this life, but you did believe in him but listen to
- 25:34what Paul says. But if the work is burned up,
- 25:36the builder will suffer great loss.
- 25:39Like man, you didn't live that life to the full that Jesus had
- 25:42for you spiritually and and you built your life on you had the
- 25:48foundation of Christ cause your faith, but the foundation then
- 25:50you built on was wood Hain straw.
- 25:53And what happens when fire gets put to wood, hay and straw?
- 25:57It's burned up. Your foundation doesn't stand
- 26:00very long as Jesus uses the other analogy of the person who
- 26:03built their house on rock and the person who built their house
- 26:06on sand that when the waves came and the the wind blew, one house
- 26:10crumbled, but the other house stayed strong.
- 26:14That you see those believers in your life and you look at them
- 26:16and you go, man, how are they going through what they're going
- 26:20through? And they still love Jesus.
- 26:22They still follow him faithfully, that they still have
- 26:25hope and faith in Jesus when they just went through what they
- 26:29went through, that they are in this such a horrible
- 26:31circumstance that they got no money, that they're living
- 26:34paycheck to paycheck, that they just lost a loved one.
- 26:36They just went through a death of their life.
- 26:38They just got this sickness or this cancer that they just got
- 26:41this diagnosis from the doctor and they're still praising
- 26:44Jesus. Do you know what that means?
- 26:47That's a person who built their house on rock and that rock is
- 26:50Christ. That's the foundation they build
- 26:52upon gold, silver and jewels. But the person who then goes
- 26:55through trouble in this world and then decides to, to run from
- 26:59God to to blame God, to say God, I don't want you anymore to say
- 27:02like, no, you are not you are not good.
- 27:04You are not working in this. You've you forsake me again,
- 27:07guys, and hear me clearly when I use this as an example, I'm not
- 27:10saying we can have moments of anger or God or questioning or
- 27:13feeling like God. Why is this happening?
- 27:15That's all throughout Scripture. Job did it, Habakkuk did it,
- 27:19people who were who were people of God, they struggled with
- 27:22things in this world. But does your struggle take you
- 27:26farther from God or take you nearer to him?
- 27:28Because Scripture also says the Lord is near to the broken
- 27:31hearted, that he saves those who are crushed in spirit.
- 27:34He is faithful. Again, as I say this to people,
- 27:37stop questioning God's character when it's your character in
- 27:39question, when you're the one running from God, when you're
- 27:42the one blaming him, when you're the one now feeling why you
- 27:44don't have this hope and pieces because you've forgotten the one
- 27:46who gives it to you. That you've built your life on
- 27:50wood, hay and straw. That you built your life on that
- 27:52job. You built your life on that
- 27:54friend. You built that life, your life
- 27:56on that relationship. You built your life on these
- 27:59temporary. Things so now when they
- 28:02crumbled, maybe you built your life on having that dream home.
- 28:06And now when that literal home got hit by a tornado and you
- 28:09feel like life is terrible and you have no more hope in this
- 28:13life, it's because you started to build your foundation.
- 28:16On that literal home, rather than the foundation that it
- 28:19should have been built on, which is Jesus Christ.
- 28:22Your life needs to be built on Christ, not on worldly things,
- 28:27which is wood, hay and straw. And so sorry yo, I had to get
- 28:32into it. Apologies.
- 28:33Forgive me, forgive me. This gets me passionate.
- 28:37But now let's get back to it. So Paul says in in verse 15, but
- 28:42if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss.
- 28:44But then he finishes with this. Listen to me, my people who
- 28:47think you can lose your salvation, but you can't.
- 28:50The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping
- 28:56through a wall of flames. So I like to use this as a
- 29:01imagery to this judgment day risen, joined together with our
- 29:08spirits made perfect. As it says, we'll have perfect
- 29:10bodies. Whoa.
- 29:12No more aches, no more pains. I wake up in the morning.
- 29:14My back is tight right now sitting here.
- 29:15Oh Lord Jesus, no more pain, no more suffering, no more sorrow
- 29:19as it will be in the new heavens and the new earth.
- 29:21He says you're in judgment day before God.
- 29:24God lays this. It says if God's holding this
- 29:27big old flamethrower and you're standing on this platform, which
- 29:30was your life, which is what you built your life on, and some of
- 29:35us are gonna be standing on our platforms.
- 29:37God's gonna turn on that flamethrower and bring it
- 29:40towards and, and, and mow it over our platforms.
- 29:43Some of us, we'll literally see our platform, the work, the way
- 29:49we lived for Christ. It will be refined and it will
- 29:53be strong and the builder will receive a reward cause the work
- 29:57survives. Their life was built on Christ.
- 30:02But then for the other person, that flame's gonna hit and
- 30:04they're gonna crumble down to the ground real fast because
- 30:08that platform that, that their life that was built on, what
- 30:12they're standing on was built on wood, hand straw.
- 30:17It was built on temporary things.
- 30:19It was built on things outside of God.
- 30:21And then when that flame hits, yeah, they will suffer great
- 30:25loss. What does that great loss mean?
- 30:28I don't know what that means in heavenly terms.
- 30:30I know, God knows. But there will be great loss for
- 30:34them. There will not be that reward.
- 30:37The work will not survive. The work is burned up because
- 30:40their lives were lived half in for Christ. 1/2 hearted faith.
- 30:46But the builder will be saved. It doesn't say they've lost
- 30:51their salvation. It doesn't mean they're still
- 30:52not going to answer heaven. They will still be in heaven the
- 30:56the builder will be saved. But like someone who's who's
- 30:59going like this after God puts the flamethrower to him, they're
- 31:02trying to pat off the flames off their body that they're that
- 31:05they're crawling into heaven. But they are in heaven, they are
- 31:10saved. Why is this though, Pastor Rose?
- 31:12Why is that though? Why is it that here's this other
- 31:16person on their side who man really lived for Christ, that
- 31:19was faithful that, you know, gave them everything, that
- 31:22continued to serve God and gave them all gave, gave God all of
- 31:26their heart. They're entering into heaven
- 31:27with this other person who's basically patting off the flames
- 31:31from the flamethrower. Like, how's that?
- 31:33How are they still saved? Well, number one, guys, we have
- 31:36to remember, and I love this guy's Holy Spirit.
- 31:37Thank you. That just reminded me of this
- 31:39story. If you've ever heard the the
- 31:42parable, I'm trying to pull it up right now because the Holy
- 31:44Spirit just brought this even to me while I was talking to you
- 31:46guys. When you talk about it, Jesus
- 31:49gives this parable of the of the workers.
- 31:53And so in Matthew, let me pull it up Matthew 20 verse verses
- 31:58one through 16. He talks about Jesus.
- 32:02I'm I'm gonna kind of paraphrase.
- 32:04I just wanted to pull it up on here on my computer just so I
- 32:07had it in front of me because I was thinking about this, because
- 32:09if you're asking that question, like, doesn't that seem kind of
- 32:12unfair? Maybe you are asking that.
- 32:14Maybe that's I mean, that's a genuine question to ask that
- 32:17man. So there's people who just put
- 32:18their faith in Jesus and then like live how they want that.
- 32:21They just basically, you know, believe in God, but they don't
- 32:23really follow God faithfully. They're just going to be in
- 32:25heaven with me when man like I was denying myself, you know,
- 32:29again, who's who's who's this kind of sound like James and
- 32:32John. Hey, Jesus, who's going to have
- 32:33a a better standing in heaven as the sons of Thunder come to
- 32:37Jesus and even bring mother with them.
- 32:38Like you know which one of my which one of us is going to be
- 32:41like more elevated? Who's going to be closer to you?
- 32:44They're worried they're. Thinking in human.
- 32:46Ways we do this all the time guys, I am I am guilty of this.
- 32:50We we think human like and again, God doesn't think God
- 32:54doesn't like us. God is ways are above our ways.
- 32:55His thoughts are above our thoughts.
- 32:56So like, but it's also OK if you're asking this question that
- 32:59well, man. So like these people will be
- 33:01basically, you know, barely getting into heaven and those
- 33:03people have reward and they've built their life on Christ.
- 33:06But I want to use this Jesus touches on this to the disciples
- 33:09and he answers this for us in the parable of the vineyard
- 33:12workers. It says for the Kingdom of
- 33:14heaven is like landowner is like the landowner who went out early
- 33:18one morning to hire workers for his vineyard.
- 33:20He agreed to pay them the normal daily wage and send them out to
- 33:23work. So the story goes on like this
- 33:27at 9:00 in the morning, he was passing through marketplace and
- 33:29and Jesus finds these workers and so he hires them for the day
- 33:33because back in that time period, that'd be very normal.
- 33:35People would look for daily work.
- 33:37There wasn't like, oh, I got this career and I have this
- 33:39salary. People were looking for work to
- 33:42make money to, to be able to buy food to eat daily.
- 33:45They didn't know if they were going to have a job that day.
- 33:46They didn't even know if they're going to have food to eat that
- 33:48day. And so this, this would be
- 33:49normal in, in this time period. And so Jesus is using this
- 33:53analogy for people who would get it.
- 33:55So you know, here's this landowner who's got work to be
- 33:56done in his vineyard and he goes out and finds worker for each
- 33:59day. So he, he goes and hires these
- 34:01people who he finds. So he hires them, he tells them
- 34:03to come work and telling them he would pay them whatever was
- 34:07right at the end of the day. So he's gonna pay each worker at
- 34:11the end of the day. So then Jesus goes and it
- 34:13explains that he finds all these workers and it's interesting
- 34:18because there's workers who show up at different time periods
- 34:22throughout the day to work. And so he gives that he, it says
- 34:27then the evening he told the foreman to call the workers in.
- 34:29So some people came like right when the shift started, some
- 34:32people came a little bit later after shift, some people came a
- 34:34little bit later, some people came a little later, Some people
- 34:36showed up to the shift. Like it'd be like, Hey, I need
- 34:39you to come work 9:00 to 5:00 in my vineyard.
- 34:40You know, and some people came at 9, some people came at 11,
- 34:43some people came at 12:30, some people came at one, some people
- 34:46came 2345, you know, right before the shift is over, let's
- 34:50say that. And so it says that evening the
- 34:54vineyard landowner said, you know, she tells this foreman,
- 34:56call the workers in and pay them beginning with the last workers
- 34:59first. When those hired at 5:00 were
- 35:02paid, each received. Listen to this guys, Jesus
- 35:07trying. To teach us something.
- 35:10About our hearts. When those hired at 5:00 were
- 35:12paid, each of them received a full day's wage.
- 35:17When those hired first came to get their pay, they assumed that
- 35:20they would receive more. So Jesus is saying this, this
- 35:23vineyard landowner brings in the people who basically were not
- 35:26there long, did not work a lot. And he's like, all right, here's
- 35:29your full day's wage. And so now all of a sudden,
- 35:32other people are standing there waiting to get called up.
- 35:34They've been there since 9:00 AM, maybe 850.
- 35:36You know, you know, on time is late and early is on time.
- 35:40They're the people that were early and on time and they're
- 35:43waiting. They're going all right.
- 35:44Well, he gave him, you know, gave him this much.
- 35:46I'm assuming we're going to get more because that dude clearly
- 35:49showed up just an hour before the shift was over and he just
- 35:51got a full day's wage. So it says when those hired
- 35:56first came to get their pay in verse 10, they assumed they
- 36:00would receive more, but they too were paid a day's wage.
- 36:07When they received their pay, they protested the owner.
- 36:12They were like, bro what? We've been here since 8:30.
- 36:15We were. We were earliest on time.
- 36:17My dog, we weren't even here right at 9:00 AM.
- 36:19We showed up right before the ship.
- 36:21We were here from the beginning, from the jump.
- 36:24They protested the owner. Those people worked only one
- 36:27hour. And yet you've.
- 36:29Paid them just as much as you as paid as much as you paid us to
- 36:32work all day in the scorching heat again for them.
- 36:36This is justified to be a little upset about like man, we should
- 36:39get more. They should get less because
- 36:42we've been it kind of sounds similar to the prodigal son
- 36:44story as well, right? The Big Brother looking at the
- 36:46little brother returning back and his dad's throwing a feast
- 36:50and he's like, bro, this dude went and just had wild living
- 36:53that he lived however he wanted that he literally has been in
- 36:57sin and he took, he took his inheritance and blew it on wild
- 37:01living and, and prostitutes and drinking and, and partying.
- 37:04And now he comes back and you just welcome him back and throw
- 37:07him a party and, and say, my son is returned.
- 37:09Like, bro, I've been here serving, I've been in this my
- 37:12family's home. I've been taking care of the
- 37:14cattle. I've been doing all this work
- 37:16and, and he's upset with his father.
- 37:17Like how does he get a feast thrown when I've been the
- 37:20faithful son, man, it's like Jesus is trying to prove a point
- 37:24to us and we're so concerned about, well, we've done this and
- 37:29that. Why do they get that and we
- 37:31don't get this? And I I love this.
- 37:34Jesus says he answered one of them.
- 37:37Friend, I haven't been unfair. Didn't you agree to work all day
- 37:42for the usual wage? Take your money and go.
- 37:45I wanted to pay this last worker the same as you.
- 37:48Is it against the law for me to do what I want with my money?
- 37:56Who's this landowner representing God?
- 38:01Should you be jealous? Because I'm kind to others?
- 38:04So those who are last now will be first then as Jesus finishes
- 38:08in verse 16 as he's telling this story.
- 38:10So those who are last now will be first then, and those who are
- 38:13first will be last. He leaves the 99 for the one
- 38:18heaven celebrates when the one returns, repents, puts their
- 38:23faith in Jesus, no matter when, no matter how.
- 38:29It's God he gets to do. He gets to do as he pleases.
- 38:33As Psalm says. He's God.
- 38:36So if you're sitting here where are, let me, let me say this
- 38:38though, guys, even this conversation that it's happened
- 38:40all throughout the Internet, the fact is you are not God.
- 38:43I am not God. If God says they're saved,
- 38:47they're saved because of his completed work, because of what
- 38:51he done, because it's his money, 'cause it's his life, 'cause he
- 38:55created you and he created me, He is over us.
- 39:00You're sitting here arguing with other finite human beings when
- 39:04we have an infinite God who does as he pleases the the world is
- 39:09his footstool. Come on man, He is God.
- 39:15And so if he's saying they're saved because of their faith in
- 39:18me, they're saved. That even if their foundation
- 39:21was burned up, they're saved. And let me bring it to my first
- 39:24main point in this conversation, as I looked at my my little
- 39:28brother Jupe, and he asked me this question.
- 39:30Number one, do you believe that God is omnipotent?
- 39:33Meaning is he all? Powerful.
- 39:35Do you believe the God that we worship?
- 39:37Yahweh. Who created the heavens and the
- 39:40earth? Who created everything we can
- 39:43see and touch. He created you and me, our
- 39:45intricate bodies and how they function all the way to the
- 39:48plants on the ground. That the food sources that we
- 39:51have, that the sun's not close enough, that we burn up not far
- 39:54enough, that we freeze these incredible things of this world
- 39:58that He created all of it. Number one of you believe in
- 40:01that and believe in Him. Is, is he not power enough,
- 40:06powerful enough to to keep our salvation?
- 40:10Because what you're trying to say is we've put our faith in
- 40:13God, but God can lose us. God can actually lose our souls.
- 40:18What? That's literally speaking
- 40:21against the God we believe in, that he is all powerful, that if
- 40:25he's got us, we are good to go. Huh.
- 40:27This makes me think about a this makes you think about a passage
- 40:31where Jesus touches on this. Where is my, this is the one I
- 40:34bring up if I want to have a simple quick conversation on.
- 40:37Hey, Pastor Lois, is it one save, always save or can we lose
- 40:40our salvation? I just shoot straight to John 10
- 40:43and John 10 says this Jesus was asked Jesus.
- 40:47It says it was winter and Jesus was in Jerusalem.
- 40:49They're there for Hanukkah, the festival of dedication.
- 40:52And he was in the temple walking through a section and these
- 40:54people surrounded Jesus and they asked him as people asked him
- 40:57questions. How long in verse 24 of the book
- 41:01of John, verse 24, chapter 10, sorry, I want to give that to
- 41:05you guys. The people surrounded him and
- 41:08asked how long are you going to keep us in suspense?
- 41:10If you are the Messiah, the anointed one, tell us plainly.
- 41:15Verse 25. Jesus replied, I have already
- 41:17told you and you don't believe me.
- 41:20The proof is the work I do in my Father's name.
- 41:22The proof is in the pudding, you know.
- 41:24Sorry, that's my added. That's the Pastor Lo's message
- 41:27version, verse 26. But you don't believe me because
- 41:32you are not my sheep. My sheep listen to my voice.
- 41:36I know them and they follow me. Verse 28.
- 41:41I give them eternal life and they will never perish.
- 41:45No one can snatch them away from me.
- 41:48Guys, listen, this is Jesus's words.
- 41:52I give them eternal life and they will never perish.
- 41:56Romans 81 There is now no condemnation for those who
- 41:59belong to who to Christ Jesus Jesus says I give them eternal
- 42:04life, they will never perish. And no one.
- 42:08Nobody. Not even yourself.
- 42:11Can snatch them away from me, for my father has given them to
- 42:17me, and he is more powerful than anyone else.
- 42:23No one can snatch them from the Father's hand.
- 42:26Verse 30 The Father and I. Are one.
- 42:32Give God some praise if you're listening to this right now,
- 42:35that because your faith in Jesus and what he has done, what God
- 42:38has done through sending his Son to die a death that we deserve
- 42:41for our sins that separated us from God, that that he
- 42:45resurrected 3 days later. And now, when we put our faith
- 42:48in Christ, we have been placed in the Father's hand, in no one,
- 42:54no body, no thing can take us from Him.
- 42:59Why? Because He is more powerful than
- 43:03anyone else. Because He created everything
- 43:05else. He is God.
- 43:09Man Live Today in that truth. My brothers and sisters in
- 43:15Christ. That you have a God who is more
- 43:18powerful than any situation, any doubt, any struggle, any pain,
- 43:24anything you're in. He is more powerful than
- 43:27anything. Saying ain't got nothing.
- 43:30Saying ain't no saying ain't no opposition.
- 43:33He OP, he is straight OP. He ain't doing nothing.
- 43:36He ain't got no authority or strength or power over God.
- 43:40And guess what? The same power that raised
- 43:42Christ from the dead lives in you, my brothers and sisters,
- 43:46lives in us. If we put our faith in Jesus so
- 43:49nothing and nobody can snatch us from the Father's hand, there
- 43:54ain't no losing salvation because we didn't earn the
- 43:58salvation Christ did He. Did the work?
- 44:01Not us. Our salvation is not dependent
- 44:04on our strength. It's dependent on the one who's
- 44:07more powerful than anyone else. Do you hear me?
- 44:11Do you clock that? That is biblical truth.
- 44:15That is God's truth that is over our lives because it's from His
- 44:20word. Stop getting caught up in these
- 44:23false theologies guys. I got a episode 2 episodes ago
- 44:26talking about this. There's too much false theology
- 44:29out here. And we got to be in our word.
- 44:32We got to read God's truth. We got to know it.
- 44:34We got to we got to meditate on it.
- 44:36We got to study it. We got to know it.
- 44:37We got to put our faith in Jesus and trust in Him.
- 44:42And so we're not done yet. We're not done yet.
- 44:44Stick with me. I got one more point I want to
- 44:46make because people still might be feeling like, yeah, but you
- 44:50saying all this stuff, it sounds good.
- 44:52But again. It's still said.
- 44:54It's impossible to bring these people back to repentance.
- 44:56So clearly these people had the Holy Spirit in them.
- 44:59So they were believers. So they lost their they lost
- 45:02their salvation. I was and hey, that's that's
- 45:06great to still ask that question.
- 45:08Do you guys remember in Scripture, what's the one sin?
- 45:13That is the unforgivable sin. What's the one sin?
- 45:19That's the unforgivable sin? It is blasphemy in the Holy
- 45:24Spirit. Let's read.
- 45:26Let's read that. Matthew really quick though.
- 45:29Matthew chapter. Oh, sorry, not Matthew.
- 45:33Where am I going at, man? Apologies, yo, you know my
- 45:35brain. It is Matthew, but it's Matthew
- 45:37chapter 12. Boop.
- 45:38I was already in Matthew. Matthew chapter 12, verses 31
- 45:43through 32 read like this. This is Jesus speaking, so we
- 45:48should listen. It's red letters.
- 45:50We listen up. Verse 31 in Matthew 12 says
- 45:54this. So I tell you, every sin and
- 45:58blasphemy, every sin, every sin, every blasphemy can be forgiven.
- 46:04So all those things can be forgiven except blasphemy
- 46:08against the Holy Spirit, which will be never forgiven.
- 46:14Anyone who? And let me guys just read the
- 46:17word. Let the word speak.
- 46:19So the question, well, what's that mean, Carlos?
- 46:21What's that mean, Pesos? What's it mean to blasphemy
- 46:23against the Holy Spirit? And why are you bringing this up
- 46:25in regards to Hebrews six? Well, let's go out to tell us
- 46:27verse 32. Anyone who speaks against the
- 46:31Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the
- 46:35Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, either in this world
- 46:39or in the world to come. What does it mean to blasphemy
- 46:43the Holy Spirit? Blasphemy in the Holy Spirit is
- 46:47a deliberate, persistent and final rejection of the Holy
- 46:52Spirit's testimony about Jesus Christ.
- 46:59It is blaspheming the truth of God revealed in His Son Jesus
- 47:06that has been given to us. You are rejecting Jesus.
- 47:12And why would that? Never be forgiven huh John 14-6
- 47:17Jesus says I am the way, the truth and the life.
- 47:20No one can come to the Father except through me.
- 47:23There is no salvation outside of Christ the Anointed 1 The
- 47:29Messiah Jesus revealed in scripture who was fully God and
- 47:33fully man first. John in his letter he's speaking
- 47:36towards false prophets who are. Trying to say Jesus wasn't fully
- 47:40man, he was only spirit and he's and John saying uh, uh, uh, uh,
- 47:44no Sir, he we touched his wounds, we walked with him.
- 47:48He was fully man and he was also fully God.
- 47:51And if you don't believe that you are not saved if you don't
- 47:56have faith in Christ of Scripture, the one that the
- 48:01apostles walked with that as. Luke starts his gospel in
- 48:06chapter 1. I have wrote all these accurate
- 48:09accounts so you can be certain of what you believe.
- 48:13That we have scripture from the eyewitness accounts of people
- 48:17who walked with Jesus physically as Thomas doubting Thomas
- 48:21touches the wounds of his hand and says you are the Christ when
- 48:27he finally doubting Thomas believes and puts his faith in
- 48:31who Jesus is. But Jesus says you believe
- 48:34because you've seen. Me.
- 48:36But man, blessed are those who believe and have not seen me.
- 48:40You are blessed, brothers and sisters, if you believe in
- 48:43Christ and you've never seen him physically.
- 48:48And so when we read in Hebrews, it's impossible to be bring back
- 48:54these people. Why?
- 48:55Because they're blasphemy in the Holy Spirit.
- 48:59They're not believing Jesus to be who Jesus is.
- 49:02These Jewish Christians are rejecting the truth of Christ,
- 49:09and so now there is no repentance that will bring them
- 49:13back because what they're rejecting is their only way to
- 49:16salvation. That is what is occurring here.
- 49:22These Jewish believers were trying to nail.
- 49:25Remember guys, it's given to us right here.
- 49:27The author says you're trying to kill Jesus over and over again,
- 49:31but Jesus says it is finished. That's what we've already taught
- 49:35you guys. We've taught you the gospel
- 49:37truth, and you keep. Trying to add.
- 49:40To it and now you are rejecting blasphemy in the Holy Spirit
- 49:45cause the Holy Spirit are revealed.
- 49:47You shared in the Holy Spirit, you tasted the goodness of the
- 49:51word and of God and the power of the age to come.
- 49:54And now you're rejecting it because you are rejecting the
- 49:57message that was given, the life changing message of the gospel
- 50:01of Jesus. Christ 'cause you're rejecting
- 50:03Him, you aren't putting your faith in Jesus and He is the
- 50:07only way to salvation. That is what is happening here,
- 50:11guys. It's not about, Oh well, they
- 50:14were struggling with sin or they were in sin and they couldn't be
- 50:17brought back. They lost their salvation.
- 50:18No, no, no, they are literally blaspheming the only way to
- 50:21receive salvation, which is through faith in Christ the
- 50:24Anointed. 1 the Messiah, the one who came, lived a perfect life
- 50:28for them, died a death for our sins, and rose from the grave
- 50:30three days later. They're rejecting that truth and
- 50:33they're trying to nail them to the cross over and over again.
- 50:38It is blasphemy in the Holy Spirit.
- 50:42We need to know who Jesus is. You need to be in your Word.
- 50:50And so I want to kind of touch and I, I highlighted this even
- 50:54to give it a little bit more of a substance.
- 50:57You know, I love this quote from a commentary.
- 51:00It says this. This difficult passage is best
- 51:04understood in the context. Of Hebrews 6 one through 2,
- 51:08which we've already read the writer to the Hebrews means that
- 51:12if they retreat back to Judaism, all the religious repentance as
- 51:19the Pharisees were very good at being religious, doing the right
- 51:23things, but they were getting it all wrong because they didn't
- 51:27have faith in the one who actually saves their souls.
- 51:31And so this this commentary saying they're trying to retreat
- 51:35back to Judaism. They're trying to retreat back
- 51:37to Old Testament law that we got to do these things.
- 51:41We still need to sacrifice the lamb.
- 51:42We got to put our sins out. No, no, no, no, Jesus already
- 51:45died on the cross for your sins once and for all.
- 51:46It's just faith in him. And so they're trying to retreat
- 51:49back, as the commentary author says, back to Judaism.
- 51:53All the religious repentance in the in the world will do them no
- 51:57good. Their religious repentance isn't
- 52:01going to save them, which is what the word is being used
- 52:04here. It is impossible to bring back
- 52:06to repentance those who have been enlightened.
- 52:08It's impossible because they're trying to return back through
- 52:12religious repentance, retreating from distinctive Christianity
- 52:18into the safe ideas and customs of their former religious
- 52:22experience. Is to forsake Jesus and to
- 52:26essentially crucify him again. These Jewish Christians were
- 52:31trying to go back to what they knew and what they believed
- 52:34before Christ. Trying to crucify him over and
- 52:38over again. And the author is writing and
- 52:40saying you are literally blasphemy in the Holy Spirit.
- 52:43You are you. You are not going to have
- 52:46salvation 'cause you are not believing in the Christ.
- 52:51This is especially true as he finishes in the commentary.
- 52:54This is especially true for these ancient Christians from a
- 52:57Jewish background, since the religious customs they took up
- 53:01again likely included animal sacrifice for atonement of sin,
- 53:07denying the total work of Jesus for them on the cross.
- 53:11And I love how he says this. There is a necessary distinction
- 53:14between falling and falling away.
- 53:17Falling away is more than falling into sin, it is actually
- 53:21departing from Jesus himself, for a righteous man may fall 7
- 53:26times and rise again, but the wicked shall fall by calamity.
- 53:32The differences between a Peter and a Judas if you depart.
- 53:37From Jesus fall away. There is no hope.
- 53:42This message to the Christians who felt like giving up was
- 53:46clear. If you don't continue on with
- 53:48Jesus, don't suppose you will find Selby Felt Sabeb.
- 53:53Don't suppose you will find salvation by just going on with
- 53:56ideas and experience that Christianity and Judaism share.
- 54:00If you aren't saved in Jesus, you aren't saved at all.
- 54:03There is no salvation in a safe common ground that is not
- 54:08distinctively Christian, as the commentary says.
- 54:11So if someone's falling away, we must understand why he or she
- 54:15can't repent. It is because they don't want
- 54:18to. It's not as if God prohibits
- 54:20their repentance, since repentance itself is a work of
- 54:24God. Romans 24.
- 54:25The kindness of God leads us to repentance.
- 54:28The desire to repent is evidence that he or she has not truly
- 54:32fallen away. I love this.
- 54:36He he finishes this, he says the idea is not that if you fall
- 54:39away, you can't ever come back to Jesus.
- 54:41Instead, the idea is if you turn your back on Jesus, don't expect
- 54:46to find salvation anywhere else, especially in the practice of
- 54:50religion apart from the fullness of Jesus.
- 54:54So this is what was happening. This is what the author of
- 54:58Hebrews was writing to Jewish Christians.
- 55:01He's saying this, there is no other way to salvation outside
- 55:06of faith in Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth and the
- 55:09life. No one can come to the Father
- 55:10except through him, as we repeat it again in this episode.
- 55:15So when we read this in those Hebrews, it's speaking towards
- 55:17these believers who trying to turn back to old religious ways
- 55:21that they're trying to find their salvation through their
- 55:23own works, through atonement of sins, through an animal
- 55:26sacrifice. They are questioning, as the
- 55:29Hebrews author says in those first verses says let's stop
- 55:32talking about basic teachings. You guys already taught these
- 55:36truths and you keep struggling to believe the foundational
- 55:41truths that we've already passed on to you.
- 55:45And so to, to wrap all this up guys, to bring it all back
- 55:48together, my prayer and hope for you is that number one, you
- 55:51understand that the God you worship is more powerful than
- 55:55anyone else. That when you've put your faith
- 55:57in Jesus, his completed work on the cross, you are saved, as
- 56:01Romans 10/9 says. For it is confessing with your
- 56:04mouth that Jesus is Lord, and it is by believing in your heart
- 56:09that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
- 56:12It's through faith in him. Remember Ephesians 28 through 9
- 56:15by His works. We boast in His works, not our
- 56:18own. We can't earn this.
- 56:20And so #1 your God is more powerful than anyone else.
- 56:24That when you are in His hand, no one and nothing can snatch
- 56:28you from Him. You are sealed in the book of
- 56:30life. And so when you read this, when
- 56:33we read this in Hebrews, it is sad.
- 56:35It is a warning for us that there is people who don't know
- 56:38Jesus, the, the biblical Jesus, the Christ, the anointed one,
- 56:42the one who came and died for their sins and rose from the
- 56:45grave three days later. That if they don't understand
- 56:48these truths of Jesus, there is no salvation outside of him.
- 56:52As we read those passages, you know Matthew 25 where it says
- 56:56Jesus, Jesus, you know, our Lord, Lord and he would say,
- 56:59depart from me. I do not know you.
- 57:01There is people who don't know Jesus the Christ, but I hope you
- 57:05know that this is a point of contention.
- 57:08And this is what this is what Satan does.
- 57:10He twists God's word to try to get us off of His truth, his
- 57:14biblical truth that's been revealed to us.
- 57:17He tries to he tries to twist God's word and tries to get us
- 57:20to question his truth. And I want you to hear today
- 57:22that the truth is if you put your faith in Jesus, the one who
- 57:26lived a perfect life that you cannot live, that died a death
- 57:29that you deserve for your sins, and then three days later rose
- 57:31from the grave. That he was fully man, fully God
- 57:33that it was God sent in flesh, that it was a manual God with
- 57:38us. If you don't study the Word and
- 57:40get to know who Jesus is, to feast on your daily bread, to
- 57:44really run after Christ and know Him, you can easily be swayed by
- 57:50these false theologies, these false teachers and prophets that
- 57:54are teaching things that are not biblical, not of God, and not
- 57:57from His Word. You need to start to study His
- 58:00Word. You need to start to be so
- 58:03intentional to spend time with Jesus, to be with him, to
- 58:06withdraw in prayer, to be in the Word daily, to start to seek out
- 58:10His truth so you are not just blown by every wind of doctrine,
- 58:13that every teacher that sounds good draws you away from God's
- 58:17truth. And so that's my encouragement.
- 58:19If you're #1 God is more powerful than anyone else #2 you
- 58:23need to understand that this is the truth of God, that you that
- 58:27has been revealed in His word, that you need to know who Jesus
- 58:32is because there is no salvation outside of him.
- 58:36As we read over and over again, as was repeated to us, that
- 58:40these people were trying to find salvation outside of Christ.
- 58:45And there is no salvation outside of Jesus.
- 58:48He is the only way, the only truth and the only life.
- 58:52And my prayer is you start to cling to that truth over your
- 58:55life. I love you guys.
- 58:57I hope this episode blessed you. I hope it encourage you.
- 58:59I hope it equipped you when you are able to take what first John
- 59:04tells us to, to test the spirits, to test what's being
- 59:07said up against God's word and his truth.
- 59:09That when you start to hear things on the Internet, when
- 59:12you're scrolling, that the Holy Spirit and you start to bring up
- 59:15God's word in your heart and you're like, no, no, no, no,
- 59:17that does not line up with God. That is not from his word.
- 59:19That is not truth. That you can stand firm upon the
- 59:22upon the foundation that is him. That you don't build your life
- 59:25on wood, hay and straw. That you build your life on
- 59:27gold, silver and jewels. That you are refined and you are
- 59:31made pure and that you look more like Jesus in this life.
- 59:34I love you guys. I'm so thankful for you.
- 59:36Let me pray so you can get up out of here.
- 59:39Heavenly Father, we thank you for who you are.
- 59:42Heavenly Father, we glorify you and your truth.
- 59:45And I pray, God, that you remind us who we are in you and who you
- 59:49are through US, God, that the power that raised Jesus from the
- 59:53dead now lives in us, and we start to utilize that power for
- 59:57your glory. Lord Jesus, fill us with your
- 59:59truth. Help us have an insatiable
- 1:00:01appetite for your word that we feast on a daily, that we seek
- 1:00:04out your truth, that we start to stand firm on a foundation
- 1:00:07that's built upon you. Jesus, I love you.
- 1:00:09Thank you so much for saving us, God, but not just saving us, but
- 1:00:13now equipping us to tell others about the salvation that we
- 1:00:16found in you, Jesus. Jesus thank you for being the
- 1:00:18only way, the truth and the life and we pray all this in your
- 1:00:21powerful and mighty name, Jesus name Amen.
- 1:00:25I love y'all. God bless.
