- 0:01Speaker 1: No accident. What's happening with Davo or with the SEC
- 0:06Speaker 1: versus what's going on at LSU? And accidents don't wait
- 0:10Speaker 1: for good timing. One bad moment, a wreck, a fall,
- 0:13Speaker 1: a doctor who wasn't paying attention. Suddenly, you're fighting an
- 0:16Speaker 1: insurance company that does this every single day. So that's
- 0:20Speaker 1: why you see the name on the screen. That's why
- 0:22Speaker 1: Clay started Clay Travis Law. He's a Vanderbilt Law grad.
- 0:26Speaker 1: He built a firm around... The idea that people deserve
- 0:29Speaker 1: someone willing to pay attention and ask the hard questions
- 0:31Speaker 1: and push back when things just don't add up. Experienced
- 0:35Speaker 1: trial attorneys who are bringing the fight to corporations and insurers.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Based in Nashville, Chad, trusted across the country.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Car and truck wrecks, rideshare accidents, medical malpractice, premises liability,
- 0:47Speaker 2: product liability. If you were wrong, they want to hear
- 0:49Speaker 2: about it. And here's what they promise. Honesty. They're not
- 0:52Speaker 2: going to sugarcoat your case. You'll hear what it's actually worth,
- 0:55Speaker 2: not what you want to hear. Case evaluation is free,
- 0:58Speaker 2: no charge, no pressure, no hassle. Just tell them your story.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Go to claytravislaw.com or call them at 877-222-4444. That's claytravislaw.com.
- 1:08Speaker 2: No case is too big or too small.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Glad you're with us this a.m. on Hutton & Withrow.
- 1:13Speaker 1: We're presented by Hard Rock Bet. John McClain, Pro Football
- 1:16Speaker 1: Hall of Fame selector, formerly Houston Chronicle, longtime friend of
- 1:20Speaker 1: this show. We've been a day one season ticket holder
- 1:23Speaker 1: of John's. John McClain. John. He's joining us in exactly
- 1:28Speaker 1: 29 minutes. We'll be whenever he joins us. First, it's
- 1:32Speaker 1: time for primary complaint. Chad, my primary complaint this week. Charities.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I donated in 2025 to the VFW, the Veteran and
- 1:44Speaker 1: Foreign War. I don't know what the check was for,
- 1:46Speaker 1: but I've sent in something around the holidays. And since then,
- 1:49Speaker 1: they've been paying me back my donation.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Slowly. Slowly.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I've got this in the mail, and I've complained about
- 1:54Speaker 1: this before, but now it's up to another level where
- 1:57Speaker 1: they're not getting the memo, and that's my primary complaint.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Get the memo, check your mentions, and know you need
- 2:02Speaker 1: to answer the question of why. Why are you sending
- 2:05Speaker 1: me money back from your.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Nonprofit?
- 2:12Speaker 1: A $ 1. 50 check, and I've got a note from the
- 2:17Speaker 1: guy who runs this place saying, I've also enclosed a
- 2:20Speaker 1: very important, please find a real $ 1. 50 check, plus they're
- 2:23Speaker 1: giving me nickels that represents real money that someone donated,
- 2:28Speaker 1: and they're giving it back to people that don't benefit
- 2:30Speaker 1: from this charity. That's my primary complaint.
- 2:34Speaker 2: It's a strange tactic for a nonprofit to do this,
- 2:40Speaker 2: and it's also so unnecessary. It's not what you're looking
- 2:43Speaker 2: for when you open up your mailbox is coins, right?
- 2:47Speaker 2: from someone. I feel bad even when I go to
- 2:50Speaker 2: a coffee shop and I just take the change they
- 2:52Speaker 2: give me and put it in the thing. I feel
- 2:55Speaker 2: like I'm spamming them, even though I'm giving them a
- 2:57Speaker 2: slight tip on a small order. You know that moment
- 3:01Speaker 2: you look the person in the eye and it's like,
- 3:03Speaker 2: I'm not putting any of this cash in here. Sorry.
- 3:06Speaker 2: And the sound of the change going all the way down.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I can just feel them.
- 3:11Speaker 1: It's a great point, man.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I can feel them putting the frothy milk on the
- 3:14Speaker 2: top of my drink. and in disdain as they do it,
- 3:17Speaker 2: as I give them 17 cents as a tip. Yeah.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I mean, nobody wants change. Nobody needs coins anymore. It's ridiculous.
- 3:26Speaker 2: So my primary complaint, youth cross country meets.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Okay. All right.
- 3:33Speaker 2: My daughter is seven and my oldest daughter just graduated
- 3:37Speaker 2: out of elementary school. Cross-country meet she's no longer doing.
- 3:40Speaker 1: She got pretty good at it. Which is crazy to
- 3:41Speaker 1: think about.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yeah, she got pretty good at it, but she didn't
- 3:44Speaker 2: want to continue on doing cross-country in middle school. She's
- 3:46Speaker 2: got plenty of other things going on, so we're fine
- 3:48Speaker 2: with it. But they have these things at the Hermitage,
- 3:52Speaker 2: home of Andrew Jackson. Sorry to offend a lot of
- 3:54Speaker 2: you out there who are still pissed off that we
- 3:57Speaker 2: included the awful Andrew Jackson on our Mount Rushmore of
- 4:00Speaker 2: Tennesseans to bring his name up again, but I will here.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It's on the grounds of his home they had this
- 4:05Speaker 2: cross-country meet, okay? This is the biggest racket going, all right?
- 4:10Speaker 2: One of the biggest rackets that I've seen. It's $ 5
- 4:13Speaker 2: for every vehicle to get in, okay? And these cross-country meets,
- 4:17Speaker 2: they have like 25, 30 schools that are represented. They
- 4:21Speaker 2: are raking in money at this place.
- 4:24Speaker 1: All right? Is it cash? It's got to be cash.
- 4:26Speaker 2: All cash.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Wow.
- 4:27Speaker 2: You got to have cash. They're not... Now, this is
- 4:31Speaker 2: actually something that worked out for me. I give the
- 4:33Speaker 2: girl who's taking the money, and there's tons of them everywhere.
- 4:37Speaker 2: They triangulated the whole property. You can't get in there
- 4:40Speaker 2: and park in a field somewhere without someone taking your money.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I give the girl yesterday $ 20. She hands me back $ 30.
- 4:46Speaker 2: So I actually made $ 10 when I entered the hermitage.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I don't know how that happened, but I'm like, I
- 4:54Speaker 2: didn't even notice until I'm going, because I'm on the
- 4:57Speaker 2: phone and I'm taking the money. I'm like, she just
- 4:58Speaker 2: handed me back $ 30. Anyway, she says, there's going to
- 5:02Speaker 2: be an entrance, you know, down there, way on the
- 5:04Speaker 2: other end. You can go that way because you've missed
- 5:06Speaker 2: the first entrance. And I'm thinking, okay, whatever. I'm in
- 5:08Speaker 2: a truck. I'm going to go over this curb and
- 5:10Speaker 2: I'm going to go park in this field however I want,
- 5:12Speaker 2: which I do right next to her. She says nothing,
- 5:15Speaker 2: but I go ahead and park exactly where I want.
- 5:18Speaker 2: But I mean, it's just, Of all the sporting events,
- 5:21Speaker 2: and JT knows this with softball tournaments the way I do,
- 5:25Speaker 2: I just leave everyone feeling a little bit empty. I
- 5:30Speaker 2: don't know what it is about it. It doesn't feel real.
- 5:32Speaker 2: I'm not trying to insult runners out there, the endurance athletes.
- 5:36Speaker 2: or anything like that. It's just the whole, I feel
- 5:39Speaker 2: like I'm getting robbed as I'm there. It's extremely hot
- 5:43Speaker 2: when they have these things. My allergies are awful for
- 5:46Speaker 2: three days, leaving the hermitage every time. My daughter's eyes,
- 5:49Speaker 2: my oldest daughter's eyes are swollen leaving there. I don't
- 5:52Speaker 2: know what's in the air at that place or what
- 5:54Speaker 2: trees exist that aren't in normal nature, but I can't
- 5:58Speaker 2: breathe for a week straight every time I go to it. Again,
- 6:02Speaker 2: I know there are other parents out there who understand
- 6:04Speaker 2: what I'm saying. There may be someone who competed in
- 6:06Speaker 2: these things. I'm sorry if you had to endure that
- 6:09Speaker 2: as a child. Yeah, cross-country meets for kids, one of
- 6:14Speaker 2: the worst things going.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Before we get to JT, I can tie this in. Chad,
- 6:18Speaker 1: cross-country meets, they're the Bill Street of the track and
- 6:23Speaker 1: field industry right now. You're giving cash. It's a cash
- 6:27Speaker 1: cover charge to every bar in Memphis. You also leave
- 6:31Speaker 1: feeling robbed, hot, and your eyes are swollen. And you're
- 6:34Speaker 1: sorry that anyone else had to endure Memphis and, uh,
- 6:38Speaker 1: bill street. I would compare it to that where it's
- 6:40Speaker 1: cash at the door and you better believe the guy
- 6:43Speaker 1: taking the cash. In my opinion, uh, you think they're
- 6:47Speaker 1: spreading the wealth around the bar. If you give a
- 6:49Speaker 1: bartender cash, you think they're splitting that tip with the
- 6:51Speaker 1: other bartender? No, absolutely not.
- 6:54Speaker 2: And also, are they really going to turn someone away?
- 6:56Speaker 2: That's there to watch their kid. Like I have no cash.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I didn't know this. Like I bet they're just like, okay,
- 7:01Speaker 2: pull in here. you know, and just go ahead. Like,
- 7:04Speaker 2: I feel like it just, it's almost punishing you for
- 7:07Speaker 2: having cash on you. If you do it, you could
- 7:09Speaker 2: probably just tell them you don't have any cash. And
- 7:11Speaker 2: you know what, I'm going to, I'm going to try
- 7:13Speaker 2: next time. Since I got $ 10, I received $ 10 to
- 7:16Speaker 2: attend yesterday's event. I'm going to see if what they
- 7:18Speaker 2: do when I say I have no cash in the
- 7:20Speaker 2: next one.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Good primary complaints, but JT is going to win this,
- 7:24Speaker 1: win this week. I think JT, you have the floor, sir.
- 7:28Speaker 4: By the way, here's a tip, Chad, on the parking situation.
- 7:31Speaker 4: I just always tell them that I'm with the guy
- 7:33Speaker 4: behind me. He's getting mine, and you just go on through.
- 7:36Speaker 4: They'll always just drive forward, and they're taking care of you.
- 7:39Speaker 4: I would then respond if I'm them. I'd be like, well,
- 7:41Speaker 4: this is like Chick-fil-A where we pay it forward. Would
- 7:43Speaker 4: you like to pay for the person behind you, sir?
- 7:46Speaker 2: It's also a good route to just act like you
- 7:48Speaker 2: know what you're doing at all times. If you just
- 7:50Speaker 2: look official, half the time people want to stop you.
- 7:53Speaker 2: If you go with that, JT, I think you're right.
- 7:55Speaker 2: They'll just let you go through it.
- 7:57Speaker 4: First, I want to say to the two of you,
- 7:59Speaker 4: thank you for not being that guy that I'm about
- 8:02Speaker 4: to discuss. There are a lot of people that when
- 8:05Speaker 4: I get text messages, I just want to throw.
- 8:08Speaker 1: My phone against the wall.
- 8:09Speaker 4: You guys brought up the spam stuff last week, and
- 8:12Speaker 4: that's frustrating. But there's nothing more frustrating than you sitting
- 8:16Speaker 4: there with your phone on your desk, and you.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Hear ding or buzz, and then buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz.
- 8:25Speaker 4: And you pick it up and you have seven text
- 8:27Speaker 4: messages and what could have been sent in one text message.
- 8:30Speaker 4: Why the hell do you people, why do we have
- 8:33Speaker 4: to hit the send button? Just keep typing, hit the
- 8:35Speaker 4: enter button and continue your thoughts. It's almost like we're
- 8:39Speaker 4: having a conversation and I just stop. And then I
- 8:42Speaker 4: start again.
- 8:43Speaker 2: And then I stop. And then I start again.
- 8:45Speaker 1: And then I stop.
- 8:45Speaker 4: And then I started over and over. Why the hell
- 8:47Speaker 4: can you not just send me one text message? Why
- 8:50Speaker 4: does it have to be seven?
- 8:53Speaker 1: JT, this is excellent. It's excellent.
- 8:54Speaker 2: And a great point. But he sent it to us
- 8:56Speaker 2: in our group in this order. People that text like this,
- 9:02Speaker 2: separate text, are my primary complaint, separate text, multiple text,
- 9:05Speaker 2: separate text, when it can be said in one text,
- 9:08Speaker 2: to which Hud and I responded with four different hearts
- 9:11Speaker 2: and then four different ha-has to each and every single text,
- 9:14Speaker 2: just so JT got all of them. That's an outstanding point,
- 9:19Speaker 2: the run-on. And a lot of times it's like somebody
- 9:21Speaker 2: who's in their car and they're, like voice texting or
- 9:24Speaker 2: they're trying to, you know, get, they're not in a
- 9:26Speaker 2: good spot to text properly, but also like you send
- 9:30Speaker 2: the one that makes no sense. I don't know if
- 9:32Speaker 2: you guys get this. And then it's like, sorry. And
- 9:35Speaker 2: then they send another one that makes no sense. Then
- 9:36Speaker 2: sorry again. And then eventually you get to the right
- 9:39Speaker 2: thing they're trying to say. Yeah. It's frustrating.
- 9:42Speaker 1: And with the, with the spell check and stuff, sometimes
- 9:45Speaker 1: you'll try to correct the spelling of a word and
- 9:46Speaker 1: it's still correct. It then changes the word again on
- 9:49Speaker 1: your second text. it's unavoidable. That really irritates me with that. Like, no,
- 9:55Speaker 1: I want, to say the word sorry. You know, not
- 9:58Speaker 1: Siri or whatever. Well done. Stop and think.
- 10:01Speaker 4: When you have a second today, when you're sending that
- 10:03Speaker 4: text message, just breathe for one second and go, is
- 10:06Speaker 4: my thought complete? And if it's not, just hold on
- 10:08Speaker 4: a second and gather your thoughts and then click the
- 10:11Speaker 4: send button.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Everybody would appreciate that. Well done, Chad. I would also
- 10:14Speaker 1: add in a collective primary complaint to the woman, the
- 10:16Speaker 1: credential woman at a high school we were at this
- 10:21Speaker 1: past weekend, demanding that we have credentials to get into
- 10:24Speaker 1: the venue to call the football game.
- 10:26Speaker 2: JT, we're never going back to Segal High School. I
- 10:28Speaker 2: hate to break the news to you over in your neighborhood.
- 10:31Speaker 2: That was an absolute nightmare. We got through it. Not
- 10:35Speaker 2: only was it maybe the worst football game I've ever
- 10:37Speaker 2: witnessed in my life, If that game was a dog,
- 10:42Speaker 2: we would have put it to sleep about midway through
- 10:45Speaker 2: the second quarter. It was awful. And the lady working
- 10:49Speaker 2: the gate would not listen to reason. Now, it just
- 10:52Speaker 2: so happened that when I pulled up, the assistant principal
- 10:55Speaker 2: knew who I was and was a fan of the
- 10:57Speaker 2: show and said, hey, I know this guy. And this
- 11:00Speaker 2: was as I'm talking to our sideline reporter who's in
- 11:03Speaker 2: an argument with the old lady who wouldn't let her in.
- 11:05Speaker 2: And I said, yeah, she's with us too. And the
- 11:08Speaker 2: guy's like, oh, yeah, they're good. Let them in. I said, well,
- 11:09Speaker 2: I'm on the phone with Hutton. Hutton can vouch for this.
- 11:12Speaker 2: He's on the speaker with me. I say, Hutton, say hello.
- 11:15Speaker 1: What's up, bro?
- 11:15Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, all these guys are good. And then her
- 11:18Speaker 2: response was, well, you still can't get on the field.
- 11:21Speaker 2: And I'm like, oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh. It
- 11:26Speaker 2: was awful.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Again, the Titans ban a reporter and a YouTuber, and
- 11:30Speaker 1: now we can't get into a high school game to
- 11:32Speaker 1: call the game on YouTube.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Yeah, this PE teacher– At Siegel, heard the news of
- 11:36Speaker 2: Jared Stillman getting banned and was like, finally, I get
- 11:40Speaker 2: to invoke some power here and I'm going to ban
- 11:42Speaker 2: people who think they have a credential. I mean, we
- 11:45Speaker 2: have like credentials through the company we work for, for
- 11:48Speaker 2: high school football games. And she was studying this thing
- 11:51Speaker 2: like it was the Magna Carta. when she was looking
- 11:53Speaker 2: at Ella, our sideline reporter's pass. And then, so she
- 11:57Speaker 2: couldn't go on the field. We had to go through
- 11:59Speaker 2: the Rutherford County school system has some sort of online credentialing.
- 12:02Speaker 2: And of course it wasn't approved in time. So we
- 12:05Speaker 2: had to climb up a ladder to the top of
- 12:07Speaker 2: a press box over and over again to get to
- 12:09Speaker 2: the top of the press box. And then no one
- 12:11Speaker 2: could go on the field to talk to a coach,
- 12:13Speaker 2: a ref or anything else. So Hutton, what was your response?
- 12:17Speaker 2: Since we're on the primary complaints, since we didn't know
- 12:19Speaker 2: the ref's name, since they wouldn't allow us in the field,
- 12:21Speaker 2: the ref suddenly became Ryan Mudd.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Ryan Mudd about to tell us the penalty on the
- 12:27Speaker 1: flag on the field, the reason for the flag. So
- 12:30Speaker 1: we had the official, the referee JT on the field
- 12:33Speaker 1: was named Ryan Mudd the entire night.
- 12:37Speaker 2: We just made stuff up.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Great job by Mudd.
- 12:38Speaker 2: At that point. We were like Carissa Thompson hunting. We
- 12:42Speaker 2: just made stuff up during that game. But the opposite
- 12:46Speaker 2: of that is because Carissa Thompson has access when she's
- 12:49Speaker 2: at the game. She's actually on the sideline, and we
- 12:51Speaker 2: weren't allowed to go on the sideline on Friday night.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Lucky for us, we won't be going back to Siegel.
- 12:56Speaker 1: That's right.
- 12:56Speaker 2: And we got Gallatin and Cookville this Friday night. I
- 12:59Speaker 2: know the people at Gallatin will be very welcoming, so
- 13:01Speaker 2: we're excited. Follow us on social to hear the conversation
- 13:03Speaker 2: during the game. We'll hit the link there. We'll hit
- 13:06Speaker 2: the link– And do us a favor, if you're watching,
- 13:09Speaker 2: you can share the link and promote the show for
- 13:12Speaker 2: us with Hutton and Withrow. Coming up, John McClain joins
- 13:15Speaker 2: us in roughly 15 minutes. But before then, I've got
- 13:18Speaker 2: players in prove-it years. Guys that need a bounce-back season
- 13:24Speaker 2: or just a put-up-or-show-up performance in 2026 across the National
- 13:30Speaker 2: Football League, which kicks off this evening. It's Hutton and Withrow.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Crockett Coffey. Started by Clay Travis and Buck Sexton and
- 13:39Speaker 2: Buck's brother, Mason. But Davy Crockett started by his father,
- 13:43Speaker 2: who I believe was also maybe, or his grandfather was
- 13:45Speaker 2: also David Crockett, Chad. But this is named after Davy Crockett,
- 13:49Speaker 2: the hunter, the storyteller, the patriot, the backwoods legend.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Look at the logo. He's surfing on the backs of crocodiles.
- 13:54Speaker 1: True story. He did that. That tells you everything about
- 13:57Speaker 1: the attitude here. 100% pure arabica, high altitude beans, small
- 14:02Speaker 1: batch roasted right here in America, Tennessee, the heart of
- 14:05Speaker 1: the country. Ships fresh roasted, not sitting on a warehouse
- 14:09Speaker 1: shelf for six months. Light, medium, dark, decaf, organic, even
- 14:13Speaker 1: a mushroom blend. The light blend is called Sun Creek.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Medium blend, Blue Ridge. Dark is King Mountain. And Chad, K-Cups,
- 14:23Speaker 1: Whole Bean Ground, however you make it.
- 14:25Speaker 3: In the morning.
- 14:26Speaker 2: King Mountain sounds like a place I'd love to live.
- 14:29Speaker 2: And I'd love to be sipping Crockett coffee on the
- 14:31Speaker 2: apex of King Mountain. Yes. You can set up a subscription,
- 14:35Speaker 2: and it shows up on your schedule. Changes are canceled
- 14:37Speaker 2: at any time you want, as the free market intended.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Free shipping on orders of $ 59 or more. And there's
- 14:43Speaker 2: a discount for veterans. And Crockett partners with Tunnels to Towers,
- 14:46Speaker 2: building mortgage-free homes for the families of fallen service members
- 14:50Speaker 2: and for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. Good coffee,
- 14:53Speaker 2: made in America, doing some good. CrockettCoffee.com. That's Crockett, C-R-O-C-K-E-T. C-K-E-T-T-Coffee.com.
- 15:01Speaker 1: John McClain will make his first appearance on Sporting State
- 15:03Speaker 1: and Huntington-Withrow coming up in about roughly 10 minutes or so. First, though,
- 15:07Speaker 1: I've got 10 players who, it's not bounce back year,
- 15:11Speaker 1: it's prove it. Put up or shut up. Back up
- 15:14Speaker 1: the words you're saying or live up to expectations. Here's
- 15:18Speaker 1: the 10 that I've selected. Chad, C.J. Stroud. Get back
- 15:22Speaker 1: to the rookie version of C.J. Stroud. They're winning games.
- 15:27Speaker 1: They have an incredible defense. If this guy starts to
- 15:31Speaker 1: show out again, look out for Houston, who could be
- 15:33Speaker 1: in their first AFC championship game. Bryce Young, he's slowly,
- 15:38Speaker 1: with Dave Cannell, slowly making the ascension back. He's been
- 15:42Speaker 1: through the depths. He's been in the cellar. Now he's
- 15:44Speaker 1: making his way up, but can he continue before he plateaus?
- 15:47Speaker 1: Marvin Harrison Jr., all the number two wide receivers at
- 15:51Speaker 1: Ohio State ball out year one. Next up, maybe Carnell Tate.
- 15:56Speaker 1: But prior to that, it was Marvin Harrison Jr. that's
- 15:58Speaker 1: just transcending the world of wide receivers in football. I
- 16:02Speaker 1: realize where he's playing, but now they also have Jeremiah Love.
- 16:06Speaker 1: It's time for Marvin Harrison Jr. to show out. Kayvon Thibodeau.
- 16:11Speaker 2: And quickly on Marvin Harrison Jr.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Go ahead, Chad.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Big decision the other night in our fantasy football draft.
- 16:16Speaker 2: I had Marvin Harrison Jr. in the queue, and I
- 16:19Speaker 2: went with someone ranked well below him At that point,
- 16:22Speaker 2: I'm trying to remember who it was. But for the
- 16:24Speaker 2: very reason you're talking about, I'm like, how is Marvin
- 16:26Speaker 2: Harrison Jr. not a no-brainer at this point in the
- 16:30Speaker 2: draft when you're talking about players, given what he was
- 16:33Speaker 2: coming into the league? So, again, I'm just saying that
- 16:37Speaker 2: to reiterate, yes, this is a good guy to put
- 16:39Speaker 2: on that list.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson is putting up some numbers when he plays.
- 16:44Speaker 1: He's playing with Geno Smith this year. And I think
- 16:46Speaker 1: sooner rather than later, Harrison will be playing with Carson Beck.
- 16:50Speaker 1: which was also an interesting tie-in there. Back to the
- 16:53Speaker 1: list is Kayvon Thibodeau. Chad, I'll never forget our chance
- 16:55Speaker 1: to chat with him prior to his draft at the
- 17:00Speaker 1: Super Bowl. He joined us as a guest. He was cool,
- 17:04Speaker 1: but he was going to be the number one overall pick.
- 17:07Speaker 1: All this talk about, are you going to go with
- 17:08Speaker 1: the Titans? What are you going to do? He ends
- 17:10Speaker 1: up in New York, and now they've got a defensive
- 17:14Speaker 1: roster chock full of the defensive front with guys who are–
- 17:19Speaker 1: Highly talented. This guy certainly was. And with the name Thibodeau,
- 17:25Speaker 1: it just fits so perfectly into where he's from. Well,
- 17:28Speaker 1: now he's in New York, and it's time to put
- 17:30Speaker 1: up and show up with expectations off the edge. Keon Coleman.
- 17:35Speaker 1: He became the household name whenever you've got the owner
- 17:39Speaker 1: and the general manager specifically mentioning Keon Coleman in press
- 17:43Speaker 1: conferences about why they're making decisions the way they are. J.C. Latham.
- 17:48Speaker 1: comes out and says that the offensive line in Tennessee,
- 17:52Speaker 1: they're not going to be anybody's bitch in 2026. He's
- 17:55Speaker 1: on the list because of it. And because he was
- 17:58Speaker 1: drafted to play left tackle. He's now at right tackle.
- 18:01Speaker 1: And he's speaking and talking the talk. I love the confidence,
- 18:06Speaker 1: the anger he's playing with. He's being a bulldozer. He's
- 18:09Speaker 1: talking trash in the run game whenever he's blocking the
- 18:13Speaker 1: defensive end or defensive tackle. Now carry that over to
- 18:16Speaker 1: the regular season and do it consistently.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Let me say this quickly about J.C. Latham as we
- 18:21Speaker 2: go down the list here.
- 18:22Speaker 1: J.C.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Latham, I love that demeanor. I love the mindset. I
- 18:26Speaker 2: love everything he's saying about we don't want to be
- 18:28Speaker 2: anybody's bitch this year. Love that. I wish he would
- 18:32Speaker 2: have said it after the first game after they beat
- 18:33Speaker 2: the Jets. That's part of it. I know beggars can't
- 18:37Speaker 2: be choosers. But I just wish that is a line
- 18:40Speaker 2: that was reserved for we just went out there and
- 18:43Speaker 2: mauled somebody on the offensive line. And had a great
- 18:45Speaker 2: game as a group. We ran the football. We protected
- 18:48Speaker 2: our second-year quarterback. And we won convincingly against the New
- 18:52Speaker 2: York Jets. And now we have set the tone for
- 18:55Speaker 2: the season, having won a game, and saying we're no
- 18:58Speaker 2: longer going to be anyone's bitch. I wish it would
- 19:00Speaker 2: have happened after the first game. That's all I'm going
- 19:02Speaker 2: to say. I know there's plenty of reasons to be
- 19:04Speaker 2: critical of the Titans. And maybe Titans fans are going
- 19:07Speaker 2: to say you're nitpicking here because you actually like something.
- 19:10Speaker 2: But again, with where that organization has been, I don't.
- 19:14Speaker 2: care about the talk right now before games have started happening?
- 19:19Speaker 2: Get a game under your belt and then say it.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I like that you answered the question. I'm with you.
- 19:24Speaker 1: The question specifically was just about Cam Ward taking violent
- 19:29Speaker 1: hits during the Texans game last year, but no one
- 19:32Speaker 1: did anything about it. This year, the O-line has a
- 19:35Speaker 1: more feisty defensive mindset. What changed? And the quote is,
- 19:41Speaker 1: culture is what you stand for and what you allow.
- 19:44Speaker 1: This offseason, we all did a moment of self-reflecting of,
- 19:48Speaker 1: we want to be the offense. line that we know
- 19:51Speaker 1: we can be. We can't be no pushovers. We can't
- 19:54Speaker 1: be nobody's bitch, just being completely honest. So all this
- 19:57Speaker 1: late hits, all the extra stuff that defenses do, if
- 20:01Speaker 1: we want to be what we know we can be,
- 20:02Speaker 1: we can't stand for that. Bravo. That is the old
- 20:06Speaker 1: school mentality that this guy brought at Alabama. that now
- 20:10Speaker 1: he needs to bring on the offensive line. And bravo
- 20:13Speaker 1: to Robert Sala, who's allowing this. How's that guy not
- 20:17Speaker 1: doing that last year? I think they're slowly starting to
- 20:20Speaker 1: talk the talk. But, you know, it's not BTA. Not
- 20:25Speaker 1: anywhere close to it yet.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Well, I love the line. Now let's see it. That's
- 20:29Speaker 2: all I'll say. I want to see it now from
- 20:31Speaker 2: this Titans offensive line.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Chad, Michael Pinnock Jr., one of your favorite players, is
- 20:36Speaker 1: the backup to start the season. He's been hurt. back
- 20:39Speaker 1: up to start the season to Tua Tagovailoa in Atlanta.
- 20:41Speaker 1: At some point, Tua's going to get dinged. I'm not
- 20:44Speaker 1: trying to make fun of it. He will be concussed.
- 20:46Speaker 1: It just happens to him. This guy's going to come
- 20:49Speaker 1: into the game, and Michael Pinnock Jr., who they drafted
- 20:54Speaker 1: very high, top 10 pick. Everyone was stunned that they
- 20:57Speaker 1: went quarterback. There's a reason why they went quarterback. But
- 21:00Speaker 1: their franchise quarterback is now running the franchise in Matt Ryan.
- 21:04Speaker 1: And when this guy enters the lineup, he's got to
- 21:06Speaker 1: prove it. Or the franchise quarterback, the former guy, Matt Ryan,
- 21:10Speaker 1: is going to move on. And they're going to be
- 21:15Speaker 1: way too much in a cost versus result business. Travis
- 21:20Speaker 1: Hunter's next up. Transcendent player in college football. I want
- 21:24Speaker 1: him to be that in Jacksonville. I love the player.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I want that to reflect on game day. He was
- 21:30Speaker 1: banged up last year, but also the two-way player didn't
- 21:34Speaker 1: work out. He got hurt very quickly. Kyler Murray's on
- 21:37Speaker 1: my guys to bet on, but he's got to prove it.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I think he will. And, Chet, George Pickens. He's in
- 21:44Speaker 1: the contract year in Dallas. Watch out. Watch out. This guy,
- 21:49Speaker 1: he's not the number one receiver. He's the number two.
- 21:52Speaker 1: One-on-one coverage. Because CeeDee Lamb's going to get it. I
- 21:55Speaker 1: think he's going to prove it, but he's on the
- 21:57Speaker 1: list because he's top ten worthy of that. What do
- 21:59Speaker 1: you think of the list?
- 22:00Speaker 2: I like it, Hutton. Looking at one through ten here
- 22:03Speaker 2: on your list, I think you've got to start with quarterbacks,
- 22:07Speaker 2: and that's exactly what you did with Stroud and Bryce Young.
- 22:10Speaker 2: My guy Michael Penix Jr. has been a disappointment so
- 22:13Speaker 2: far based on what I thought he was going to be.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Definitely a prove-it year for him. And Travis Hunter is
- 22:19Speaker 2: a great one. I mean, what is he in Jacksonville?
- 22:22Speaker 2: Is he that transcendent player that we all thought he
- 22:24Speaker 2: was going to be? We're going to find out a
- 22:26Speaker 2: lot more about him this year. So, Hutton– Quickly, let's
- 22:29Speaker 2: go through one through ten.
- 22:30Speaker 1: C.J. Stroud and Bryce Young back-to-back for me, and it's
- 22:32Speaker 1: really no particular order. These guys are lumped together with
- 22:36Speaker 1: where they are in their careers and what they have
- 22:38Speaker 1: to do. Marvin Harrison Jr., tons of talent, huge catch radius,
- 22:44Speaker 1: ability to run routes better than anyone. Let's see it, man.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Let's do it. Let's get after it in Arizona and
- 22:50Speaker 1: turn some things around with a trio at quarterback and
- 22:53Speaker 1: eventually Carson Beck. Harrison Jr., And then you have a
- 22:57Speaker 1: first-round pick and a love as well at running back.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Let's show it. Kevon Thibodeau, it's a proven year for
- 23:06Speaker 1: him because he can get paid if he puts out
- 23:09Speaker 1: on the stats. Keon Coleman's being called out as a
- 23:12Speaker 1: bad pick, bad selection in Buffalo. He's still on the roster. J.C. Latham,
- 23:18Speaker 1: a mentality we all love. Let's just see it on
- 23:20Speaker 1: the field. Michael Pinnock Jr., Travis Hunter, Kyler Murray in Minnesota,
- 23:25Speaker 1: the veteran minimum for him after making, what, 50-plus million
- 23:28Speaker 1: last year in Arizona, and then George Pickens in Dallas.
- 23:32Speaker 1: There's your top 10 prove-it seasons upcoming across the NFL.
- 23:37Speaker 1: The guy we're about to bring on coming up, John McClain,
- 23:41Speaker 1: his ability to project the future and tell you who's
- 23:44Speaker 1: going to play in the Super Bowl is uncanny. Now,
- 23:47Speaker 1: he'll tell you, I didn't get it last year. That
- 23:50Speaker 1: might be true. But normally, more times than not, the
- 23:54Speaker 1: guy's in the plus money in this. We get to
- 23:57Speaker 1: talk with him as the season starts. And we get
- 24:00Speaker 1: to catch up with a longtime friend who makes the.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Move over, Swami and Chris Berman. The real Swami is
- 24:05Speaker 2: John McClain when he talks about his season projections.
- 24:08Speaker 1: He's the general. He's the man in black. John McClain
- 24:11Speaker 1: making the first appearance on Hutton and Withrow with Sporting State.
- 24:14Speaker 1: But man, he's been a part of our show or
- 24:18Speaker 1: a part of our careers for decades. over two decades.
- 24:21Speaker 1: He's covered the league for, what, five? Can't wait to
- 24:24Speaker 1: talk with him next. We're presented by Hard Rock Bet.
- 24:27Speaker 1: It is Hutton and Withrow. We're presented by Hard Rock Bet. SportandState.com,

- 25:29Speaker 1: What is it?
- 25:30Speaker 2: Is it $ 10 or $ 20 million he's got it out now?
- 25:31Speaker 1: $ 10 million. He's gone to the eighth.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Graders, right? He went from a high school state champion
- 25:37Speaker 2: of his choosing to an eighth grade boys basketball team,
- 25:40Speaker 2: and they've still yet to respond.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Not shocking. Not shocking that they've not responded. I don't
- 25:47Speaker 2: think we'll be hearing from them anytime soon.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Our guest, John McClain, he's not allowed to say this
- 25:51Speaker 1: is a bunch of BS. He's a legend. And here's why.
- 25:54Speaker 1: 50th year. 50th year covering the National Football League. That's
- 25:59Speaker 1: unheard of. I mean, you get to do something for 50.
- 26:02Speaker 1: You celebrate a marriage that goes that long. And some
- 26:04Speaker 1: of these people get married at 18. John is covering
- 26:08Speaker 1: the NFL for 50. John McClain, welcome. Great to see you.
- 26:14Speaker 3: You guys weren't even born when I started covering the NFL.
- 26:19Speaker 2: I was six years away from being born, John, when
- 26:21Speaker 2: you started covering the league. I was six years out.
- 26:25Speaker 3: And, Jonathan, how far out were you?
- 26:29Speaker 1: I was born in 84. Eight years out. I was
- 26:33Speaker 1: eight years out.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Well, thank you for having me. Congratulations on the new
- 26:38Speaker 3: show and, of course, Clay's new site. You guys are
- 26:41Speaker 3: killing it already.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Hey, I don't know how you don't remember this. You
- 26:46Speaker 1: were getting at least one of the two teams, if
- 26:49Speaker 1: not the matchup in the Super Bowl, of late. Let's
- 26:53Speaker 1: just start there as the season kicks off. Who's going
- 26:56Speaker 1: to live up to expectation in your mind? And which
- 26:59Speaker 1: teams are taking a fall back? Because there's always a
- 27:02Speaker 1: worst to first. And you were great at always pointing
- 27:05Speaker 1: out the runner-up for the Lombardi Trophy generally doesn't go
- 27:09Speaker 1: and repeat what just happened.
- 27:12Speaker 3: That's why I don't have the Patriots making the playoffs.
- 27:15Speaker 3: A lot of other people have them among their top
- 27:17Speaker 3: five teams. And talent-wise and coaching-wise with Mike Brable, they
- 27:22Speaker 3: should be. But Super Bowl losers just don't respond the
- 27:27Speaker 3: next year when you think they would be the hungriest
- 27:30Speaker 3: team in football. And we don't have repeat champions anymore
- 27:34Speaker 3: other than the Patriots with Tom Brady. So I'm not
- 27:38Speaker 3: going out on a big a limb. Everybody is picking
- 27:42Speaker 3: the Rams so heavily. And you talk about Super Bowl
- 27:46Speaker 3: or bust, they better because they are built to win
- 27:49Speaker 3: the Super Bowl now. And I've been picking a team
- 27:54Speaker 3: that I would love to see win. Last year, I
- 27:58Speaker 3: picked Detroit and Buffalo because I wanted their fan base.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Yes.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Their long-suffering fan base. Lions haven't won a championship since
- 28:06Speaker 3: I was a child. And the Bills haven't won once
- 28:10Speaker 3: since the AFL when they were led by Jack Kemp
- 28:13Speaker 3: and Cookie Gilchrist, a very underrated running back back then.
- 28:18Speaker 3: And so I picked them this year. I'm going with
- 28:19Speaker 3: the Rams. I'm going with the Bills. I think the Bills,
- 28:23Speaker 3: who begin the season in Houston, will lose. And then
- 28:27Speaker 3: they will beat the Texans in their new stadium to
- 28:31Speaker 3: go to the Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Who do you have in the AFC South this year?
- 28:37Speaker 3: I have Houston and Jacksonville second, just reversed from last season.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Maybe the Colts, who were 8-2 when Daniel Jones was injured,
- 28:47Speaker 3: maybe the Colts will be really good again. All I'm
- 28:50Speaker 3: confident in is the Titans will finish last, even though
- 28:55Speaker 3: I saw on the NFL Network yesterday, Titans are in
- 28:58Speaker 3: the playoffs and the Texans are out.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Cal Grant had to win in the division, right, yesterday?
- 29:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:05Speaker 3: I wasn't going to embarrass Kyle, but last year I
- 29:08Speaker 3: remember Mike Tannenbaum on ESPN said the Titans would win
- 29:15Speaker 3: a division, and I don't hear people pointing that out.
- 29:18Speaker 1: When you go way out on a limb, and I've done–
- 29:23Speaker 1: He's buddies with Sala also. I'll put that out there.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Yeah, Tannenbaum you're saying?
- 29:27Speaker 1: No, no, no, Kyle Brandt.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 29:31Speaker 1: That's why.
- 29:32Speaker 2: I knew there was some sort of reason as to
- 29:34Speaker 2: why you would do that. And I was thinking with
- 29:36Speaker 2: Tannenbaum here before, I'm like, is Brian Callahan his brother-in-law
- 29:39Speaker 2: or something? we don't know about?
- 29:41Speaker 3: Salah should be coach of the year, coach of the decade,
- 29:44Speaker 3: maybe coach of all time.
- 29:47Speaker 2: John, yeah, that's a wild take. Hey, I want to
- 29:51Speaker 2: get your opinion on something because you have covered the
- 29:53Speaker 2: league for 50 years. Jared Stillman, who used to work
- 29:57Speaker 2: for a radio station I know you go on weekly
- 29:59Speaker 2: in Nashville, now is an independent YouTube host for his
- 30:03Speaker 2: own show. He got booted. He got banned from the
- 30:07Speaker 2: Titans media and is no longer allowed a credential. It
- 30:10Speaker 2: blew up and became a national story. And Jared ended
- 30:12Speaker 2: up doing interviews all over the place about it. There
- 30:16Speaker 2: was a back and forth right before it with Cam Ward,
- 30:18Speaker 2: where he asked Cam Ward to assess his play and
- 30:21Speaker 2: Cam Ward asked him, how would you assess it? And
- 30:23Speaker 2: he said, not well. And then, you know, that was
- 30:25Speaker 2: about it. Then he answered the question. I didn't think
- 30:27Speaker 2: it was that big of a deal. But it's no
- 30:29Speaker 2: coincidence to me that he got his credential revoked shortly
- 30:33Speaker 2: after that. What do you make of that and that
- 30:37Speaker 2: decision by the Titans in doing this, which it feels
- 30:40Speaker 2: like to us just sort of an unnecessary black eye
- 30:43Speaker 2: for the organization when you do something like that?
- 30:46Speaker 3: It's almost like Jared Stillman called the Titans and said, man,
- 30:50Speaker 3: I need some more attention. I need some clicks. I
- 30:53Speaker 3: need more people subscribing to my YouTube channel and also
- 30:58Speaker 3: listening to me on Sirius. So what can you help
- 31:01Speaker 3: me do? Because all they did was take him national,
- 31:05Speaker 3: give him unbelievable publicity, and they had to have known
- 31:11Speaker 3: what was going to happen, and they didn't care. And
- 31:14Speaker 3: I'm never in favor of pulling anybody's credential unless they've
- 31:18Speaker 3: done something illegal or against the rules. I know several
- 31:22Speaker 3: times here in Houston, there have been people in the
- 31:26Speaker 3: media who've broken a rule that might have it pulled
- 31:30Speaker 3: for a week and never came out or they were threatened.
- 31:35Speaker 3: But boy, you can't just pull something because of negative
- 31:38Speaker 3: publicity because they give him So much attention. And they're
- 31:45Speaker 3: not stupid. They may have made a stupid decision, but
- 31:48Speaker 3: they knew what the fallout was going to be. And
- 31:51Speaker 3: I'm sure they're thinking, okay, when the season starts, it
- 31:54Speaker 3: will have died down. But I think overall it was
- 31:57Speaker 3: a really dumb decision to do that. And not just
- 32:01Speaker 3: what Jared does locally, but the fact that he is
- 32:04Speaker 3: on Sirius and he has a national platform and he
- 32:07Speaker 3: has milked it as he should have.
- 32:10Speaker 2: John, what's reasonable for Cam Ward in year two? Disappointing
- 32:15Speaker 2: year one, a lot of factors with that. He's got
- 32:17Speaker 2: a new coach now, new offensive coordinator and play caller
- 32:21Speaker 2: in Brian Dayball. How long are you giving this if
- 32:24Speaker 2: you're the organization? Does he have the entire season to
- 32:28Speaker 2: show something? What are you wanting to see early, and
- 32:32Speaker 2: what are you wanting to see throughout the year from
- 32:33Speaker 2: Cam Ward to know that he's your guy if you're
- 32:36Speaker 2: the Tennessee Titans?
- 32:38Speaker 3: First of all, they got to beat the Jets. If
- 32:40Speaker 3: they don't beat the Jets, the criticism will be even more.
- 32:44Speaker 3: Somebody will say, huh, so it wasn't Stillman's fault. And
- 32:48Speaker 3: I think in this case, you want to see improvement.
- 32:53Speaker 3: They're going to struggle early. You've got new system, new coaches,
- 32:56Speaker 3: new terminology. They still need more talent, of course. What
- 33:01Speaker 3: you want to see is improvement. And you want to
- 33:05Speaker 3: see them, if they can win five or six games,
- 33:08Speaker 3: that would be improvement. But with the quarterback drafts the
- 33:11Speaker 3: next two years, and they would have to seriously say,
- 33:16Speaker 3: because you have a head coach, he didn't draft him,
- 33:18Speaker 3: he wasn't here during that period, but you have a
- 33:22Speaker 3: new coach, and if Robert Sala wins, say they double
- 33:25Speaker 3: their win total and win six, or they make Kyle
- 33:28Speaker 3: Brandt look like the greatest genius since Albert Einstein, if
- 33:35Speaker 3: that's the case... then they know what they've got. But
- 33:38Speaker 3: with quarterbacks coming out the next two years, at least
- 33:41Speaker 3: what it looks like, if he does not improve, if
- 33:44Speaker 3: he continues to make the same mistakes, and some of
- 33:47Speaker 3: them you're like, my God, doesn't he listen? How can
- 33:50Speaker 3: he do that? But you see some big plays too,
- 33:54Speaker 3: and I think he will be in there all year,
- 33:57Speaker 3: and then he'll be evaluated after the season. They'll see
- 34:00Speaker 3: where they are, and if they haven't seen the kind
- 34:03Speaker 3: of improvement they want to see because they stand behind
- 34:05Speaker 3: the scenes.
- 34:06Speaker 2: We don't.
- 34:08Speaker 3: And when they know, they should know after the season,
- 34:11Speaker 3: he's our guy or we're getting somebody else.
- 34:15Speaker 1: John, I've got four organizations that I want to hit
- 34:18Speaker 1: on here, but I'm going to lump three together. In
- 34:21Speaker 1: the AFC North, the trio of Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh,
- 34:26Speaker 1: how do you have those franchises aligned right now and
- 34:29Speaker 1: how they finish, just prediction-wise? Where do you tier them?
- 34:32Speaker 1: And which organization faces the most pressure given the the storyline.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Baltimore has been the talked about team that is not
- 34:40Speaker 1: winning the AFC. You've got Pittsburgh with Aaron Rodgers in
- 34:43Speaker 1: his final year and Joe Burrow and everyone, the collective
- 34:48Speaker 1: offensive group, now trying to actually get back to the
- 34:52Speaker 1: Super Bowl.
- 34:55Speaker 3: They're got like several of the divisions. All you know
- 34:58Speaker 3: is who's going to finish last and that's going to
- 35:00Speaker 3: be the Browns. I do not think the Steelers are
- 35:03Speaker 3: going to be a playoff contender after watching them make
- 35:07Speaker 3: it last year and get destroyed at home by the
- 35:09Speaker 3: Texans because the Texans had two defensive touchdowns. I think Baltimore,
- 35:15Speaker 3: you guys, first of all, Cincinnati, Zach Taylor, everybody says
- 35:18Speaker 3: he's on a hot seat. And Joe Burrow needs to
- 35:21Speaker 3: get off to a good start. He needs to stay healthy.
- 35:24Speaker 3: When he does, he's a top three quarterback. And the
- 35:28Speaker 3: Ravens have made a lot of changes and it starts
- 35:30Speaker 3: with John Harbaugh. I think that that they're under more
- 35:36Speaker 3: pressure because Harbaugh was fired, and now he's with the Giants,
- 35:41Speaker 3: of course, and Harbaugh had won a Super Bowl. So
- 35:44Speaker 3: I think it's the Ravens, even though they're not going
- 35:46Speaker 3: to make a head coaching change, are under more pressure
- 35:50Speaker 3: than the Bengals.
- 35:51Speaker 1: And the Kansas City Chiefs, what do you make of
- 35:55Speaker 1: Mahomes coming back off injury, Kelsey, all this? And just,
- 36:00Speaker 1: of course, they've got the coach. They've got the quarterback.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Where are the expectations right now?
- 36:06Speaker 3: I think Denver's going to win that division. A lot
- 36:08Speaker 3: of people nationally are always hounding Chargers. What have the
- 36:12Speaker 3: Chargers done? They've done squat. They make the playoffs. They
- 36:15Speaker 3: don't do squat. So I think Kansas City, to blow
- 36:18Speaker 3: them off, would be a mistake because Mahomes and Andy Reid.
- 36:22Speaker 3: But they've gotten old. They've had a lot of bad
- 36:24Speaker 3: draft choices. They've taken receivers who are head cases. They've
- 36:28Speaker 3: gotten rid of a receiver who was a head caser.
- 36:31Speaker 3: And they'll take anybody, as you guys know. But because
- 36:34Speaker 3: of Reed Mahomes, they're going to factor into the playoff
- 36:38Speaker 3: picture whether it's as a spoiler or whether they make it.
- 36:41Speaker 3: I would take the Chiefs over the Chargers. I guess
- 36:44Speaker 3: most people take the Chargers because of Jim Harbaugh. But
- 36:48Speaker 3: I'm going with the Chiefs because they are tried and true.
- 36:52Speaker 3: Maybe all three of them make the playoffs. But because
- 36:55Speaker 3: the Broncos have a great defense led by their pass
- 36:58Speaker 3: rush and because Sean Payton is a great coach, I
- 37:01Speaker 3: would put the Broncos as a division winner because I
- 37:05Speaker 3: think Bo Diggs will bounce back. If Bo Diggs had
- 37:07Speaker 3: been healthy, they would have been in the Super Bowl.
- 37:10Speaker 3: So I think that division is going to be really good,
- 37:13Speaker 3: but all we know in the AFC West is who's
- 37:16Speaker 3: going to finish last.
- 37:18Speaker 2: NFL kicks off tonight, John, on a Wednesday night. First,
- 37:22Speaker 2: do you like the Wednesday night start, getting the one-day
- 37:25Speaker 2: jump on the season as opposed to the normal Thursday
- 37:28Speaker 2: night kickoff?
- 37:29Speaker 3: Chad's like, it wouldn't bother me if we had a
- 37:32Speaker 3: game every night. You can't have too many NFL games.
- 37:36Speaker 3: Just like I love college football. College football is off
- 37:40Speaker 3: to an incredible start. Yes, a lot of it's controversy, chaos, confusion.
- 37:45Speaker 3: But that just makes it more interesting. I watch everything
- 37:49Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin does. He's like a car wreck. You go by,
- 37:52Speaker 3: you can't take your eyes off of him. And now
- 37:55Speaker 3: I want the NFL to come out. have exciting games,
- 37:59Speaker 3: starting with the Seahawks and the Patriots, and I think
- 38:03Speaker 3: it's great. I wouldn't be in favor for it every
- 38:06Speaker 3: week because of logistics, although as a fan, I could
- 38:11Speaker 3: never get enough NFL.
- 38:13Speaker 2: John, are we going to see a Diana Rossini hangover
- 38:17Speaker 2: with Vrabel and the Patriots going into this season, or,
- 38:22Speaker 2: and this is kind of the way I feel about
- 38:23Speaker 2: Mike Vrabel, knowing him a little bit, He's a guy
- 38:26Speaker 2: that when his back's up against the wall or there's
- 38:28Speaker 2: any type of controversy or any type of people are
- 38:31Speaker 2: doubting me type thing that he seems to come through
- 38:35Speaker 2: more often than not. Do you think that has any
- 38:37Speaker 2: effect on him and the Patriots this season on the field?
- 38:42Speaker 3: Well, first of all, I don't think they're going to
- 38:43Speaker 3: make the playoffs because last year they had the easiest
- 38:46Speaker 3: schedule in 25 years. Now they're going to have the
- 38:48Speaker 3: hardest schedule in 25 years. I don't think it will
- 38:52Speaker 3: be because of Rabel and Rossini. They are storing ESPN
- 38:56Speaker 3: this week, talking to some unnamed players and two players
- 39:00Speaker 3: allowed to be quoted. And it looks, one of them
- 39:02Speaker 3: said he was able to get a high five. One
- 39:05Speaker 3: of them said he's a dirtbag like we are, and
- 39:08Speaker 3: he's the former player, Sean Smith. But the players don't
- 39:11Speaker 3: care about things like that. They want to make money.
- 39:15Speaker 3: They want to get women, and they want to win.
- 39:17Speaker 3: That's what they play the game for. And I think
- 39:21Speaker 3: that it's.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Very– That's our clip for the McLean segment. That was perfect.
- 39:25Speaker 3: It is tilted, of course, against women reporters. And that
- 39:31Speaker 3: story in ESPN covered a lot of that about how
- 39:34Speaker 3: it's made it even tougher for women. And coaches are
- 39:38Speaker 3: more careful about talking to a woman. What if at
- 39:41Speaker 3: the combine where you didn't think twice before about seeing
- 39:45Speaker 3: a woman and a coach talking? at a table talking football,
- 39:48Speaker 3: now you're like, oh, are they having an affair? So
- 39:51Speaker 3: it's just unbelievable where it's done, but I don't think
- 39:55Speaker 3: that Mike Grable's off-the-field issue will have anything to do
- 40:01Speaker 3: with their season because he's got an owner who totally
- 40:04Speaker 3: supports him, and that's all it matters.
- 40:06Speaker 1: John, final minute and a half or so here. I'm
- 40:10Speaker 1: curious what you think about the Pro Football Hall of
- 40:11Speaker 1: Fame selectors' changes that the hall made. And is this
- 40:16Speaker 1: in direct reflection of Bill Belichick not making the Hall
- 40:19Speaker 1: in the first ballot?
- 40:21Speaker 3: First of all, we still don't know if we're on
- 40:23Speaker 3: the committee. I've been on it for more than 30 years.
- 40:26Speaker 3: I may be on it. I may be off of it.
- 40:28Speaker 3: I don't know. I would no longer, if I'm on it,
- 40:30Speaker 3: represent Houston, the Oilers, or the Texans. They don't have
- 40:34Speaker 3: that anymore. And I can say I don't like any
- 40:37Speaker 3: of these changes. And even though they swear it has
- 40:40Speaker 3: nothing to do with Belichick, it's just curious when Dion
- 40:43Speaker 3: complained publicly and created a controversy three years ago, they
- 40:48Speaker 3: made changes to make it harder to get in all
- 40:50Speaker 3: the paint. And this time Belichick didn't get in and
- 40:53Speaker 3: it could have been 30, 39 of us voted for
- 40:56Speaker 3: him and 11 didn't, but you got to get 80%.
- 40:59Speaker 3: So it's another major changes. And if I'm, In it,
- 41:06Speaker 3: I'll do my best job under the new format. And
- 41:08Speaker 3: if I'm out, I'll look back on my more than
- 41:11Speaker 3: three decades with great pride.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Why wouldn't you be in? What's the criteria for who
- 41:17Speaker 1: they want?
- 41:18Speaker 3: They haven't said. They just want people that are going
- 41:20Speaker 3: to get it right. And so I don't know. We're waiting.
- 41:25Speaker 3: Each of us, 50 of us, will get a call
- 41:27Speaker 3: telling us we're in or out. Do we want to
- 41:29Speaker 3: not be part of it if we're in? Do we
- 41:32Speaker 3: want to resign? So we're all waiting with bated breath.
- 41:36Speaker 3: But right now, I don't know if I'm going to
- 41:40Speaker 3: be in, but I don't like the new format because
- 41:44Speaker 3: I always took great pride in making presentations about Oilers, Texans,
- 41:49Speaker 3: and a guy like Chuck Cowley with the Cowboy who
- 41:52Speaker 3: I presented.
- 41:53Speaker 2: John, do you feel like they're trying to punish those
- 41:55Speaker 2: who stood against Belichick?
- 41:57Speaker 3: I don't think so, Chad, like I don't think they're
- 41:59Speaker 3: trying to punish anybody. I think they're trying to work
- 42:03Speaker 3: harder to get the people they believe should be in there.
- 42:07Speaker 3: And in starting with Bill Belichick, who was always going
- 42:10Speaker 3: to get in on the second ballot. You know, Vince
- 42:12Speaker 3: Lombardi didn't get on the first ballot. Tom Landry, were
- 42:15Speaker 3: they pretty good? But they didn't raise a big stink
- 42:18Speaker 3: back then. And but hey, it's it's part of NFL history.
- 42:23Speaker 3: I'll still love the Hall of Fame where I've been
- 42:25Speaker 3: over 50 times and will continue to go if I'm
- 42:28Speaker 3: not part of the group.
- 42:30Speaker 1: And by the way, what they can't do is take
- 42:33Speaker 1: away the fact that John McClain is in the Pro
- 42:35Speaker 1: Football Hall of Fame, not just a selector.
- 42:37Speaker 3: That's the truth.
- 42:37Speaker 1: He is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Damn right.
- 42:39Speaker 3: I wear their caps with pride.
- 42:42Speaker 2: Always. Damn right.
- 42:43Speaker 3: Yes.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Hey, John, we mentioned right before you joined, it is
- 42:46Speaker 1: great to have you back with us. You've been a
- 42:49Speaker 1: great friend of ours behind the scenes. And also- great
- 42:53Speaker 1: friend of the show for over two decades. For us,
- 42:58Speaker 1: in some shape, form, or fashion, we appreciate you, man.
- 43:01Speaker 3: I always love coming on with you. Thank you very much.
- 43:04Speaker 3: Congrats again on the show and Sporting State, and I
- 43:08Speaker 3: can't wait to talk to you guys again.
- 43:10Speaker 2: I have to say, John, that I have known you
- 43:12Speaker 2: and worked with you in some capacity for 22 of
- 43:15Speaker 2: your 50 years covering the NFL as long as I've
- 43:19Speaker 2: been doing this So thank you for all the help
- 43:22Speaker 2: and great to get you back on the show.
- 43:24Speaker 3: George Plaster has called you Chadwick. You're like, that's not
- 43:27Speaker 3: going to cut it, George. How about Chadlack?
- 43:30Speaker 2: And that stuck.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Chad, tell them your fantasy football team name.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Yeah, my fantasy football team every year is the Mount
- 43:35Speaker 2: Juliet Chadlacks in honor of John McClain. So I tell
- 43:38Speaker 2: everyone John McClain gave me this nickname. I ran with it.
- 43:41Speaker 2: And my fantasy football team name, the Cadillacs, every single year. John,
- 43:45Speaker 2: you're the man. Thank you.
- 43:46Speaker 1: On underscore NFL is where you can find John McClain.
- 43:48Speaker 1: He is the man. Coming up, hard rock bet. And
- 43:52Speaker 1: we have the ability to come up with a parlay
- 43:57Speaker 1: for you that is going to hit. We've got those
- 44:00Speaker 1: next right here on Hutton and Withrow. And here's Sting

- 44:55Speaker 1: We're calling this segment Going for the Bundle because we're
- 44:59Speaker 1: giving a parlay for you.
- 45:00Speaker 2: In honor of?
- 45:02Speaker 1: In honor of the late Mark Howard, which we'll get to.
- 45:04Speaker 1: I've got an example coming up. But I want to
- 45:08Speaker 1: go for the bundle with what we're doing. We're each
- 45:10Speaker 1: going to give a three-leg parlay. And then I think
- 45:13Speaker 1: it'd be great if we pick our favorites from the
- 45:17Speaker 1: three-leg parlay and combine it into another three-leg parlay. JT's
- 45:20Speaker 1: going to join us for this, too. Chad, lead us off.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Yes, so we're not keeping records on this, by the way.
- 45:26Speaker 2: I'm going to go ahead and make that addendum right now.
- 45:28Speaker 2: Our bank account will, Jeff. It's not a loss, right?
- 45:35Speaker 2: We're going to look at the overall percentage within this
- 45:37Speaker 2: parlay because betting a three-leg parlay is very difficult to
- 45:40Speaker 2: hit on all three. If we get two out of three,
- 45:43Speaker 2: we'll consider that a success. But, Hutton, we're going for
- 45:45Speaker 2: the bundle this week, and I'm hoping to win. Boy,
- 45:48Speaker 2: I tell you right now, my confidence meter is not
- 45:50Speaker 2: high on my first one. Patriots to win outright. That's
- 45:54Speaker 2: the lowest one. I have been sweating that one all day.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Not feeling great about it, but I do have the Patriots'
- 46:00Speaker 2: backs against the wall. Mike Vrabel's been talked about in
- 46:03Speaker 2: a negative way all offseason. This seems like the time
- 46:06Speaker 2: that he responds in a big way. And you've got
- 46:09Speaker 2: the defending Super Bowl champ. Everybody's thinking they're going to win.
- 46:13Speaker 2: It's not a big point spread in the game. I'm
- 46:15Speaker 2: taking the Patriots to win this thing outright. and surprise
- 46:18Speaker 2: on Wednesday night, tonight, against the Seahawks. Also, give me Missouri.
- 46:22Speaker 2: I think they're going to be good again under Eli Drinkwitz.
- 46:25Speaker 2: I'm not as high on Kansas. Only a five-and-a-half point line.
- 46:29Speaker 2: SEC showed out well in week one. I think they're
- 46:31Speaker 2: going to do the same in week two. They're going
- 46:33Speaker 2: to win. I like the minus five-and-a-half at Kansas. And
- 46:36Speaker 2: give me Mississippi State. I think they're a half-a-point favorite.
- 46:41Speaker 2: So I'm going to take them on the money line,
- 46:43Speaker 2: because that's what it is, to cover the spread to
- 46:45Speaker 2: win that game outright. At Minnesota. And I'll give you,
- 46:50Speaker 2: let's get to yours. I think my highest confidence, though,
- 46:53Speaker 2: on this one is Mississippi State on the money line
- 46:55Speaker 2: at Minnesota if I had to pick one to combine
- 46:58Speaker 2: into a parlay.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Okay. Mine. Check this. Memphis. Now, I've teased some of
- 47:06Speaker 1: the lines here for my parlay. I'm taking Memphis minus 10.5.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Or plus 10.5, excuse me. Plus 10.5 as they take on, what, Boise. Boise.
- 47:18Speaker 1: I like the point. I'm going with coaching here, Chad.
- 47:20Speaker 1: I'm just taking the momentum of the Memphis Tigers.
- 47:22Speaker 2: I like it.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Winning on the road and answering on offense. They can score.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Give me the Memphis Tigers plus the points here. Marshall,
- 47:32Speaker 1: they're taking on Middle Tennessee State, and Derek Mason is
- 47:36Speaker 1: head coach. I haven't talked about my alma mater in
- 47:39Speaker 1: three years.
- 47:40Speaker 2: For now. Derek Mason's the head coach for now.
- 47:42Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, this was like 12, 13 points. I've got
- 47:47Speaker 1: it down to 10 and a half. And then Tennessee,
- 47:48Speaker 1: I moved that down by two points. I'm laying the
- 47:52Speaker 1: points there, though, Chad, and I'm taking the balls in
- 47:55Speaker 1: this matchup against Georgia Tech after what I saw from
- 47:58Speaker 1: the Yellow Jackets. What do you think?
- 48:00Speaker 2: I like it. I mean, I'm reluctant only because I
- 48:04Speaker 2: want to see Faison Brandon on the road once before
- 48:06Speaker 2: I really feel confident about taking Tennessee in points on
- 48:09Speaker 2: the road. But from what I saw in week one,
- 48:13Speaker 2: and yes, it was Furman, and yes, it was Colorado
- 48:15Speaker 2: they played who's better than Furman, but I don't know
- 48:17Speaker 2: how good Colorado is. And Georgia Tech lost at home
- 48:20Speaker 2: to them. So if I bet that game, I'd roll
- 48:23Speaker 2: with you with Tennessee minus the 12.5 or whatever it
- 48:27Speaker 2: is right now, maybe 13.5. I like it.
- 48:28Speaker 1: All right, JT, pick three of our six options, and
- 48:33Speaker 1: that's our extra parlay.
- 48:37Speaker 4: I've got to say I'm going to go with anybody
- 48:40Speaker 4: against NTSU because I've been going to watch them lately.
- 48:42Speaker 1: I don't like that.
- 48:43Speaker 2: I don't really care what the line is.
- 48:45Speaker 1: I live in Murfreesboro, proud supporter of the Blue Raiders.
- 48:48Speaker 3: They have not been good.
- 48:50Speaker 4: I like Mississippi State because I think that portion of
- 48:53Speaker 4: the SEC versus that portion of the Big Ten SEC should.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Be favored there, right? And let's go with the Vols.
- 49:00Speaker 1: I like that one. We've got Marshall, Mississippi State, Tennessee.
- 49:07Speaker 2: All right. That's the official Withrow, Hutton, JT parlay is
- 49:12Speaker 2: to go.
- 49:12Speaker 1: Good work, Wes. Good work.
- 49:14Speaker 2: I like it. Let's play.
- 49:15Speaker 1: This is going for the bundle, and here's why. Mark Howard,
- 49:19Speaker 1: a great friend of ours, the late Mark Howard, who
- 49:23Speaker 1: had this in an arena football league, courtesy of Titans Radio.
