- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Uh I mean we're just the the it's interesting.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be humid, so it's gonna feel warmer like near 80.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: But it's on and off it's on and off rain today.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: So it's not like you're gonna walk outside and be like, oh, this is a great end of summer, almost start of fall day.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: That's just gonna be wet on and off.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: And tonight.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Do you put on the AC?
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Do you not put on the AC?
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: And a little bit tomorrow.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Maybe the mugginess will affect that.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: I won't know till I get home.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Um, but uh yeah, so the next couple days, today and tomorrow kind of wet.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Friday, uh, we we turn out real nice, 72.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: We're we'll be at Centertown Social.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: We've got our uh our next uh Scott and Alley after work social and can't wait to meet the crew from the sewer department.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Everyone is welcome, though.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Even though we're taking care of just them, you can come and have drinks and food and hang out with us for two hours.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: It's always a good time to just relax after a long work week.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Maybe catch your breath for a few minutes there.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Uh okay.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: So uh I have a question for you that came up.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: We started talking about this yesterday uh after the show.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: We we have um, I'm gonna say really more of a friend.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: He works with our corporate folk.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, but we we spend quite a bit of time when we get to see him with this person.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: We all got chatting about this yesterday.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: It was about chore charts.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because you have kids, he has kids, but your kids are different in age.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Now your kids are tell everybody how old your kids are.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Okay, so Gavin's 12, Lydia's seven.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, Megan's 25, but she doesn't need a chore chart.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't know, she wouldn't tell me.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Dave's kids are a little bit older.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: There are, I think he's like a 14-year-old, 17-year-old, 19-year-old.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: So we're hitting all the ages with this guy.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Also, Dave and I are different generations.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Dave's our coworker.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: So uh I'm a Gen Xer.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: I was born in 71.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: He's a elder millennial.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: I think him and I are the same age.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: I think you do you guys are right there.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: So you kind of dance a little bit into the Gen X realm.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: And the thing that I said about a chorech.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Let me say that.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Well, you do.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, because you're getting I'm three years from it.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: You're you're you're so close that you get the a lot of the influence.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: See, the elder millennial age Can't I wear that millennial title with pride?
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: You don't want to.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Uh yes, I do.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: No, you don't.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Uh, especially the younger millennials.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, uh, they're traumatized for being born.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Uh you're that's not you.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: You got a set of nuts.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: I know you do.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: So uh just listen newer.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: But uh bigger than Scott's.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: That being said, I don't know.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: I've never seen them.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: I never grew up with a chore chart.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: I never grew up with a chore chart.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: Oh no, we didn't either.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: My mom had the to-do list, though.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: So with a couple things would happen with us.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: I remember a couple of those here and there now that you mentioned it.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: She always had a cute little notepad with like apples on it.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: And she would say, you know, please do the dishes, especially during school break, but it was it was school break was like the the the main crux of it.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: I need you to do the dishes and whatever else that we need to do today.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: And it always would be I would call my mom at work, which we weren't supposed to.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: But you're gonna anyway.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: And then she'd be like, Why are you calling me at work?
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: And then it would always end with, and don't forget to do the dishes.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: Right, right, exactly.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: So I got a double reminder, a verbal, and a notepad.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: Were the dishes done?
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, if it wasn't done.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: That's why I say I have the fear of Gail as opposed to the fear of God.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: You think I fear God?
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: No, I fear Gail.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: So the dishes were usually done, even if I was doing them at 4 45 and she was gonna be walking in the door at 5.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Even if I was standing at the sink.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: They're done, technically speaking.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: I'd be standing at the sink and she'd be like, okay.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: You know.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: And then you look at her and go, but they're done, Mom.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Or halfway.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: I'm doing it.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: I'm getting it done right now.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: So, and and here's the thing: we've gotten short charts to the point where they are high tech.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, you can get them hanging on your wall digitally.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: You can log into your phone and put charts up there and have messages for the kids.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: And then they tap once it's completed with like a little check-check marketing.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, I am from an era that there wasn't a chore chart, but yet I knew what to do.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: I was the kid that had to take out the garbage.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: And I was from the house to the can in the garage, an unattached garage, because you know, we weren't that lucky in house number one.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: House number two, it was there.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: But then I was also the one to take it out to the street.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: And I also remember, although it wasn't because like I I think my mom, my mom was a stay-at-home mom.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: It's an era gone, you know, I mean, for the most part.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Uh, and she was the one that did most of the inside stuff.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: That I feel she thought was her role, and that's fine to each his own.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: So she would do dishes, things like that.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: I think I remember how being asked on occasion, can you help me put away the dishes from the digital?
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Or dry them?
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Do you want them?
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: But it was not like it was on a chart.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: There was never a chart during the summertime.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Uh it was expected that I would assist with yard care, you know.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: I think millennial parents are the ones who started the chore chart.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Is that where this starts?
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Did you grow up in a house with a chore chart or no?
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Do you have a chore chart now, whether digital or whiteboard?
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Because and here's the funny thing Dave being elder millennial, and he is a high-tech guy.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: This guy has his house wired all the way up.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Like every piece of technology, except for a chore chart.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: He said it's a whiteboard that hangs on the cupboard.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Which is weird because you would think I like I do like the satisfaction of clicking and checking and saying, I'm done with that.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: And I think that's why millennials do it, is because, you know, we had the list where we would check it off, so then we just converted it into a digital form of what we grew up with.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: But then I can make the argument I'm of a generation, you didn't need you didn't need no damn chart.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: You your parents told you what you had to do, and you better remember it, or you're gonna pay the consequences.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: Your kids now are too distracted by electronics.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: So they need- Oh, whose fault is that?
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh, I know.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: But I you so instead of making it the same people hanging a digital chore chart because you're also connected to electronics.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: And I look at my girlfriends who are moms, they're way too busy to be constantly nagging their kids about the chore chart.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, yes, they still do it, but it's like, look at the chart.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: I love the look at the chart.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: You know what to do.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna go to Heather.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Heather and I are the same age, okay?
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: She goes, We always had a chore chart uh uh for our kids and made it things uh made things more smoothly, uh made things move smoothly, sorry.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: And uh uh because everyone knew what their responsibilities were for the week.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Let's find with that.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Look at the chart.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: I'm not dogging on the chart.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: I'm just saying I grew up in a house where I was expected to do things, but there was no chart.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: I love the chart.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: You're a chart person.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: I I am a well when I started working here, I would always say, Scott, make a list.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: And I because I love checking off everything off my list.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: So I love the chart too.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm curious to know if you're a chart family or not, whether it's electronic or just the whiteboard.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: Does it work?
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's another good question.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Yes.
