- 6:48Well the Mets and Astros have met nine times so far this year.
- 6:51And the Astros with their doubleheader win yesterday have the advantage by a 5 to 4 margin.
- 6:57Here in Houston the Mets have not won a ball game inside of the four they have played.
- 7:02Astros playing strong baseball, they have won six consecutive games,
- 7:08and they have won 13 of their last 14 games here inside in the Astrodome.
- 7:13The Mets are currently working on a five game losing streak.
- 7:16The last win was over the Giants.
- 7:18They had lost three to the Dodgers and now two here to the Astros.
- 7:22Right now it's Bo Balinski taking his long left pitches on the mound.
- 7:26He'll be opposed by left-hander Dennis Bennett who is still throwing down on the both end for the Mets.
- 7:31And this ball game about to get underway and here for the play by play.
- 7:34Lindsay Nelson.
- 7:36Thank you very much Ralph Shannon. Hello everybody.
- 7:38Bud Harrelson waiting outside the batter's box now until Bo Balinski gets finished with his warm-up tosses.
- 7:44And this ball game will get underway.
- 7:47The Chicago Cubs have recalled outfield of Byron Brown to replace Paul Popovich who is going into the National Guard.
- 7:55The Atlanta Braves have recalled pitcher Clay Carroll from Richmond.
- 7:59They have put Tony Klauniger on the disabled list.
- 8:02He never did fully recover from that eye ailment and so he's going back on the disabled list.
- 8:07Boston Red Sox have recalled Dave Morahead, a pitcher, and they have thrown out pitcher Gary Wazlowski.
- 8:13Those personnel changes being made.
- 8:16Houston Astros have sent Chuck Harrison down to Oklahoma City.
- 8:21He sustained a broken thumb yesterday.
- 8:24They already had two men on the disabled list, Tony Jackson and Ron Brown, so had to send him down and they brought up Doug Rader to replace him.
- 8:32Now Bud Harrelson is in and waiting with a batting average of 287.
- 8:38He has 18 runs batted in.
- 8:41Facing the left-hander, Bo Balensky, and the pitch is high and off the glove.
- 8:46Catcher Johnny Bateman goes all the way back to the screen.
- 8:51The month of July, Bud Harrelson has hit at a clip of 361.
- 8:58Harrelson has hit safely in 23 of the 29 games that he's played in July.
- 9:03This pitch is low.
- 9:06Two and 0 to Harrelson with Cleon Jones waiting on deck.
- 9:13Bo Balensky has won two games and lost six for the Houston Astros.
- 9:17Here's a pitch low.
- 9:19He goes behind 3 and 0.
- 9:21Balensky lost to the Mets 4 to 2 on July 18th at Chez Stadium.
- 9:25He started and went 4 and 2-3 innings.
- 9:27He allowed four runs on 6th pitch.
- 9:29He walked 2 and he struck out 3.
- 9:35Balensky does a little work out in the river.
- 9:37Now it's time to take a time from John Bateman.
- 9:40Here's a 3-0 pitch and it's in there for a foul strike.
- 9:43Harrelson taking all the way on the coaching line for the Mets.
- 9:46Yogi Berra is at first base and Salty Parker is on the lines around his third.
- 9:5530-year-old Bo Balensky with a 3-1 pitch that's in there for a foul strike too.
- 10:03Last year with the Phillies, Balensky won on loss two with San Diego, he won two and lost four.
- 10:133-2 pitch low and Bud Harrelson draws a walk.
- 10:18So the Mets pick up an early base runner and Cleon Jones is the batter.
- 10:23Hitting 2-15, he has four homers and 19 runs about to dance.
- 10:27There's a group of about 50 youngsters down in the left field corner
- 10:31who started the chant of, Let's Go Mets.
- 10:33And they have Mets banners and Mets pennants and all sorts of paraphernalia down here, the root for the New Yorkers.
- 10:48Cleon Jones is the right-hand batter.
- 10:53Doug Rader, the first baseman, holds against Harrelson.
- 10:57Here's a swing and a ground ball foul up the first baseline.
- 11:07Cleon Jones has 11 hits in his last 26 times at bat.
- 11:11That's a clip of 4-23.
- 11:17Tommy Davis moves out to the on-deck circle.
- 11:25Now the pitch, swung on and bowled off to the right side out of play.
- 11:29Two-strike count to Cleon Jones.
- 11:31The Astros are on the infield.
- 11:33Have Doug Rader at first, Joe Morgan at second, Bob Lilith at short, and Bob Asplamati at third.
- 11:41Ron Davison left, Jim Winn in center, and Rusty Solve around the right.
- 11:45John Bateman is catching.
- 11:52Bob Olenski sets up to check the runner. Two-strike delivery, swung on and down the ground to third.
- 11:56Gone by Asplamati into left field.
- 11:59Harrelson turns and holds at second as Ron Davison returns the ball, and Cleon Jones is on at first.
- 12:05And otherwise, charged against Asplamati.
- 12:10So the Mets have runners at first and second.
- 12:17That was a ground smash to third, and as Asplamati moved over to try to play it on a half,
- 12:23he suddenly pulled back and the ball went on by him out into left field.
- 12:27It scored as an error, bringing up Tommy Davis, who has hit safely in his last six games.
- 12:33He's been hitting at a 385 flip over that sent to give him for the season an average of 308.
- 12:39He has 14 home runs and 52 runs batted in, leading the New York Mets in both of those important departments.
- 12:46Johnny Bateman has gone out for a brief conference now with pitcher Bob Olenski.
- 13:01Runners lead at first and second. Pitch to the right-hand batter. Swung on and landed to right for a base hit.
- 13:06Harrelson is getting a green light from Sal G. Parker at third. He's coming home.
- 13:09Must be sub-thrall. Not in time. Harrelson scores standing up, and Cleon Jones goes to third.
- 13:15On at first with a singular right on a run batted in, Tommy Davis.
- 13:19For Tommy, RBI, number 53. The Mets are out in front by a score of one to nothing.
- 13:30That brings up Ron Swabota, hitting cleanup and manager West Western's batting order.
- 13:35Swabota has a season's batting average of 252. He has seven homers, 24 runs batted in.
- 13:40He's a right-hand batter. And Barry Latman gets up to throw now down in the bullpen for the Houston Astros.
- 13:46Right-hander Barry Latman.
- 13:51Runners at first and third take their lead.
- 13:54The pitch is inside low to Swabota. Wall one. Ed Charles moves out on deck.
- 14:08Now again, Valensky sets up and checks. Heels a pitch. It's high and away. Goes behind 2-0.
- 14:14The Astros have won six straights. It is their longest winning streak of this season,
- 14:19and their longest of any season since May of 1965.
- 14:24The Astros have won seven of their last eights, 15 of their last 23, 13 of their last 14 at home.
- 14:31Against the Mets for the full season series, Houston has won five, lost four.
- 14:35But here at the Astrodome, Houston is 4-0. The Mets have won one in doors.
- 14:39Here's a pitch. Inside low. Count goes 3-0 to Ron Swabota.
- 14:53Low Valensky reaches down now. Picks up a shuttle, a pebble, and crosses to the side.
- 15:02Here's where we get the sign. This will be a 3-0 pitch. And it's high.
- 15:07Swabota walks on four-pitch balls to low to bases. It will bring up Ed Charles.
- 15:14Second walk is in this inning by Valensky. Charles is a right-hand batter hitting 268
- 15:20with three homers and 19 runs batted in.
- 15:23The Mets are leading here by a score of 1-0 with nobody out.
- 15:32Brief conference. Second baseman Joe Morgan. Shortstop Bob Lilis.
- 15:36First baseman Doug Rader. In for a conference with Valensky.
- 15:42By the way, Rader's playing first base, a position he has not played since the instructional league of 1966.
- 15:49Valensky works straight away, and the pitch is inside low, rolls a few feet away from Bateman.
- 15:53He recovers. There's no advance by the baseman at first, second, and third.
- 15:58A count of 1-0 now to Ed Charles.
- 16:01Catcher Greg Goosin has moved out on deck.
- 16:08This is a 1-0 delivery. And it's in for a called strike as Charles started to go and lay it off.
- 16:15Down by behind the plate is Chad Crawford, and Charles is discussing it with him.
- 16:19Chris Pellicudis is at first, Doug Harvey is at second, and John Kibler is around at third.
- 16:311-1 pitch to Charles inside, and again, off the glove of Bateman.
- 16:34He keeps it right at the base of the plate in front of him to prevent any advance by the baserunners.
- 16:40Nick Young goes to two balls and one strike.
- 16:44John Jones at third, Tommy Davis at second, and Ron Swaboda is at first base.
- 16:552-1 pitch, swung on and fouled off right down into the dirt.
- 17:00John holds at 2-2 now to Ed Charles.
- 17:15Belensky takes the time, works straight away with a 2-2 pitch.
- 17:21Swung on and missed. He's strikeouted Charles.
- 17:26First strikeout, one away, bases still loaded, and Greg Dusen's coming up.
- 17:32Hitting 280 for the season, one run battered in, he's a right-hand batter.
- 17:44Belensky goes to the rosin bag, now turns his back to the plate to rub up the ball a little bit.
- 17:50In the crowd here tonight, Sally Hemas, former Mets coach and last year a minor league manager
- 17:55at the semi-managed Jacksonville in the international league, and Greg Dusen was his catcher there.
- 18:02Here's a pitch, and it's in for a tall strike.
- 18:06So Dusen and Hemas were going a little visiting before they started the night ball game.
- 18:11He goes up there now with a strike one count.
- 18:20Another pitch, going on and missed. Oh, careful, and Ed Dusen way out in front.
- 18:26So quickly Belensky goes to a two-strike count.
- 18:30Ed Traneville is waiting there on deck.
- 18:34The Mets won, the Astros nothing.
- 18:41Two-strike delivery, inside, and it's just five-eight minutes.
- 18:45Back to the screen, Jones comes home to score. It's a wild pitch, charging at Belensky as runners move up all around.
- 18:53Jones scoring, Tommy Davis to third, Ronson to second, the Mets lead two-nothing.
- 18:59The pitch was inside low. Bateman got a glove on it but did not deflect it. It came right on back.
- 19:16Got one ball and two strikes to Dusen with runners at second and third.
- 19:19The Astros play it in field and now.
- 19:24One man out. Here's a swing and a miss as again it was a breaking pitch that Dusen chased for the strikeout.
- 19:34That'll bring up Traneville, a left-hand batter to face the left-hand pitcher.
- 19:38Second strikeout for Belensky in the inning.
- 19:42Traneville is hitting two-eighty-seven. He has eight homers and 36 runs batted in.
- 19:50Traneville against left-handed pitching this year has batted 321.
- 19:55He's had 17 hits and six runs batted in off left-handers.
- 20:03That's them for a called strike.
- 20:07Tommy Davis at third, Ronson to second, two away.
- 20:11That's two, Houston nothing. Bill Lentz has moved out on deck.
- 20:17Traneville steps back out of the batter's box, now settles himself back in, measures his stance.
- 20:25The pitch, one on it, in the air to left field. Ron Davis moves over and makes the catch and the side is out.
- 20:34Well the Mets pick up two runs on only one hit. There was one error and two Mets left.
- 20:40So the score in the middle of the first is the Mets two and the Astros coming to bat.
- 20:45Zero in on performance and a feel of luxury that lets you know this is your car, Plymouth 1967.
- 20:52Zero in on savings and the kind of selection that lets you know this is your dealer.

- 21:30Hurry though to Omri Garage, central at Calvin and Albany.
- 21:34Your Chrysler, Plymouth and Valiant Volium Headquarters.
- 21:56We're going to the bottom half of the first inning now and on the mound for the New York Mets is Dennis Bennett.
- 22:04He has a record of one win and one loss with the Mets with the Boston Red Sox before coming over to the Mets on June 24th.
- 22:11He had one four and lost three. He has not faced Houston this season.
- 22:15He has defeated the St. Louis Cardinals two to one on July 16th, lost the Dodgers three to nothing July 21st.
- 22:22And it has appeared in seven games to the Mets with five starts.
- 22:27Ron Davis is up to lead out, hitting 228, four homers and 24 runs batted in.
- 22:33Right hand batter facing the left hand pitcher.
- 22:38And it delivers low for a ball. Ron Davis was the hero of the 65 victory of the Astros over the Mets in the first game yesterday.
- 22:46Went in the top half of the ninth inning. He took a drive out to better Ron Swaboda and threw Bob Johnson out at the plate.
- 22:52Here is the pitch in for a called strike. Johnson would have been tying runs.
- 22:56He had tagged and tried to score after the catch by Davis. He threw a strike.
- 23:01Right into the glove of John Bateman at the plate.
- 23:04So he's up there now with a one-one count.
- 23:08It's long away from a two-and-one.
- 23:11On the coaching line for the Astros, Nellie Fox at first base and Jim Busby around at third.
- 23:21Here's a two-one delivery. And it's outside. The count goes three balls and one strike.
- 23:27The Mets have an infield of Ed Cranebuehl at first, Phil Lins at second, Bud Harrelson at short and Ed Charles at third.
- 23:33Tommy Davidson left, Leon Johnson center, and Ron Swaboda in right.
- 23:38He's in the infield. Far out and he's deep.
- 23:41Leon Johnson going back to the warning track. It's going, going, and it's down.
- 23:46A home run for Ron Davis.
- 23:48It is a still-time run of this season.
- 24:02And the pyrotechnic display goes on here at the Astrodome, some kind of a hometown home run.
- 24:09Quickly the Astros get back, one of the two runs that they gave up in the top of this inning.
- 24:14It is the Mets two and the Astros one.
- 24:19Joe Morgan coming up, hitting 293 with four homers and 29 runs batted in.
- 24:28We're waiting until the fireworks have started.
- 24:35I don't know what it will hand us to the fireworks for the home run.
- 24:41Here's a swing of five and the center field is today's hit.
- 24:44Leon Johnson one-offed it. They hit the second one and tied it to two and he's in there standing with a double.
- 24:51Joseph Jones was taken by relay man Bill Lentz and dropped, so it scored out the double.
- 25:01And very quickly the Astros have a tying run at second with Jim Wynn coming up, hitting 271.
- 25:08He has 83 runs batted in and he has 27 home runs.
- 25:13He leads the major leagues in RBI and we're getting action down in the Met bullpen now as Ron Taylor is up to 12.
- 25:21You may recall in the second game yesterday Wynn had a double in two home runs.
- 25:24One of them was an inside the parcomer.
- 25:28He hit numbers 26 and 27 in the home run department in the second game yesterday.
- 25:33Morgan gets the jump, goes to third. Joe and he is face.
- 25:36Joe Morgan got a good jump on Bennett and although Goosen rifled the ball down there, good play gets his goal in base.
- 25:48Number 10 for Joe Morgan.
- 25:50So at this point the Astros have a tying run at third base with nobody out.
- 25:55On a count of ball one, did Jim Wynn have to play?
- 25:57Wynn left the game yesterday after having been up three times because he said he had a couple of dirty spells
- 26:04and he was sent to the hospital for observation.
- 26:08However, he came back ready to play tonight.
- 26:11One open.
- 26:13Third ball is topped up the middle and a score run. Morgan's about to play down from close on.
- 26:18In time to make the play.
- 26:22So there is one man out to throw his tie, 2-2 and Rusty Schaub is coming up.
- 26:29Run batted in for Jim Wynn on the infield out, number 84.
- 26:36Rusty Schaub is leading the major leagues in batting.
- 26:40With a mark of 363. Seven homers and 48 runs batted in.
- 26:51Then it's Bennett Fitch turns him inside for the ball.
- 26:55Bob Espromonte is swinging bats on Dike.
- 27:02Nobody on base, one man out on the score side, 2-2.
- 27:07Blowing away for a ball, it's 2-0.
- 27:14Dike rolls away from Bennett Fennett and it's retrieved now by Ed Charles, the third baseman.
- 27:27Rusty Schaub with the bat cots and here's a 2-0 pitch.
- 27:32Get in there for a call strike, it's 2-1.
- 27:462-1 delivery, blowing away off the glove of Goosen and all the way back to the screen.
- 27:51So the count runs out to 3-1 now to Schaub.
- 27:58The temperature inside the Astrodome here is a constant 72 degrees.
- 28:02At this moment outside the Houston temperature is 88 degrees.
- 28:06The high here today was 95.
- 28:08Here's a pitcher on the ground to the right side.
- 28:10Payne's going to get it and here it comes, it goes through for a base hit.
- 28:14Shook some by Swabota, play back.
- 28:16It is the third hit of the inning for the Astros with Rusty Schaub.
- 28:22With a single to the right and Astromonte's coming up.
- 28:25Ron Taylor continues to throw in the med bullpen.
- 28:31Craneful, the first baseman, went for the ground ball, tried to flag it, could not add.
- 28:35Phil Lentz had gone deep on the rim of the Astro turf and right and he could not get a glove on it either.
- 28:41So it went through cleanly for a base hit.
- 28:45Craneful holding against Rusty Schaub with Astromonte up there.
- 28:49Starting average at 299, 5 homers and 36 runs batted in.
- 28:59Pitch is low for a ball.
- 29:00Astromonte was recently out for a good long stretch with a full time muscle and he still is not 100 percent.
- 29:09But he's in the lineup here tonight.
- 29:121-0 pitch is on the way for a ball, 2-0.
- 29:17Doug Rader has moved out on deck and Wes Westrom calls time and goes to the mound.
- 29:22The med manager goes to the mound with a count 2-0 on Astromonte and right hand pitcher Ron Taylor.
- 29:30Down there in the bullpen continuing to throw.
- 29:54And there's a sign so it's going to be Ron Taylor coming in now.
- 29:59As Belinsky, or rather Bennett is out of the ball game.
- 30:10Bennett has gone a third of an inning.
- 30:14Charged with two runs on three hits.
- 30:18Struck out 9 and walking on.
- 30:25Ron Taylor comes in to make his 30th appearance of this season.
- 30:30He has won two and lost two.
- 30:33He was in action yesterday in the first game for a third of an inning.
- 30:36Allowed no runs, no hits.
- 30:38Just batted in and retired one batter to Stomper Raleigh.
- 30:44And now to check us up on scores of other games.
- 30:46Here's Ralph Keiner.
- 30:47Well the St. Louis Cardinals continue their winning ways as they defeated the Chicago Cubs 9-2.
- 30:52The winning pitcher was Washburn, his record now 7-4.
- 30:56Louis Nye, Rich Nye, losing pitcher at 9-7.
- 30:59The fatal home run is 18th and a 6 for the man on Lou Brock, his 14th, and the 8th with two men on base.
- 31:07San Francisco Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 8-4.
- 31:12The winning pitcher was McCormick, a losing pitcher was Pizarro, Van Denen, and Hyatt had home runs in the ball game.
- 31:18Hyatt got his with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to win the ball game for the Giants.
- 31:22Philadelphia playing against the Dodgers at night at the end of 4, Atlanta 3, Cincinnati 1.
- 31:28Phil Necrow pitching for the Atlanta Braves and Mel Queen going for the Cincinnati Reds.
- 31:32In the American League, New York Yankees playing at home but losing to Kansas City by an 8-6 margin.
- 31:38Here is the winning pitcher in relief, Telliton the losing pitcher in relief.
- 31:41Lin Glad, a home run in the seventh with no one on, he was the starting pitcher.
- 31:45Here a home run in the eighth with the man on for the Yankees and Smith a home run in the eighth for the Yankees with no one on.
- 31:50Boston beat Minnesota 4-0 and the winning pitcher was Lee Chang, he pitched a three hitter, losing pitcher was Boswell.
- 31:56Yostremski got a home run with two men on in the third, his 26th this year.
- 32:00After five and a half innings, the White Sox are Cleveland and the Indians in front by a 2-1 score.
- 32:05McMahan now pitching for Chicago and Teon going for the Indians.
- 32:09Vern Fuller a home run in the third with no one on.
- 32:13All right, well, right here it is the Astros 2 and the Mets 2 with the Astros batting in the bottom half of the first inning.
- 32:19There's one man out, Rusty Talb is the runner at first and the count to bother us for money at the plate is 2-0.
- 32:25Ron Taylor takes the sign, he's up and set now.
- 32:29And here is the pitch.
- 32:31In there for a called strike, it's 2-1.
- 32:36Waiting on Doug, Doug right here for the Astros.
- 32:46Taylor bends forward to take a sign.
- 32:49Slate here with the Houston Astros last season, he's up and set.
- 32:532-1 delivery.
- 32:55Swung under, down the ground to second, taken there by Linton, over to house and won and on to Crain Brula double play.
- 33:01So quickly Ron Taylor comes in to put out the fire with a double play ball hit by Astromonte, limp to house and to Crain Brula.
- 33:10The fight is out with two runs on three hits, no errors and none left.
- 33:15Towards the end of an inning is the Mets 2 and the Astros 2 and once again here's Brown.
- 33:21Thursday night, August 22nd has been designated as country music night at J Stadium when the Mets will be leading the Philadelphia Phillies in the Twy Nite double header.
- 33:30The twin games, the twin bill, the Mets in conjunction with radio station WJRZ have scheduled a highly entertaining program which will feature the outstanding Columbia recording artist Ray Price in this talented group.
- 33:42It should be a fun filled evening for young and old alike so try and remember the date.
- 33:47Thursday, August 22nd, country music night at J Stadium.
- 33:51The Mets and Phillies in the Twy Nite twin bill.
- 33:55All right Ralph, before we go to the top of the second, we're going to step out for station identification.
- 34:00This is the New York Mets baseball network.
- 34:04This is the new bright sound in radio.
- 34:08WGY-A10 on your dial is connected to New York.
- 34:14This is Lindsay Nelson with Ralph Cantor and Bob Murphy at the Astrodome in Houston, Texas.
- 34:20It's going to be Phil Lintz coming up now for the Mets.
- 34:24He's hitting 186. He has one homer and six runs about at end.
- 34:28Facing left-hander, Bob Balinski.
- 34:31Jerry Buczek, the regular Mets second baseman, is still out with a full camp muscles sustained in San Francisco at the start of this road trip.
- 34:40Buczek took batting practice before the Nite game.
- 34:49Most of Texas is in the midst of a very hot streak weather-wise.
- 34:55Wichita Falls today, the temperature reached 108. It's over 100 in Dallas today.
- 35:02104 in Fort Worth.
- 35:05Now the pitch to the right-hand bat, and it's in there for a Carl Streit.
- 35:10And the temperature reached 95 here in Houston, which makes most baseball fans thankful that there is indeed an Astrodome in Houston, Texas
- 35:18where baseball is played indoors in air-conditioned comfort.
- 35:22Here's a breaking pitch high. It's one and one.
- 35:26Ron Taylor is swinging bats on deck.
- 35:31First inning, Balinski struck out two and walked two.
- 35:40Here's a swing and a miss. It's one and two.
- 35:45Bo Balinski became nationally famous during his tenure with the California Angels.
- 35:51He pitched to no hitter, which got him the attention of the baseball world, and he regularly dated Mamie Van Doren, which got him the attention of the rest of the world.
- 36:00Here's a pitch in front of the play, and it's down time by.
- 36:03Catch a Johnny Bateman all the way back in the count, goes two-two to Phil Lenz.
- 36:12Balinski lists his permanent home as Hollywood, California.
- 36:19Here's a two-two delivery.
- 36:21It's one on and line into the glove of Astromontius III for the out.
- 36:25Phil Lenz got a run on it, but lined it through Astro at third.
- 36:28One away, and Ron Taylor's coming up.
- 36:31Say, let's put a Reingold Shug-a-Mug special to play at your local stores in New York and New Jersey.
- 36:36The Shug-a-Mug looks and sounds just like what it is, a good sir's fringing drink of beer.
- 36:41Two ounces of Reingold extra dry, and you can drink it right from the mug.
- 36:49Taylor's a right-hand batter, swings and misses.
- 36:52He has nothing for four this season.
- 36:57Nobody on base, short tied, two-two.
- 37:05Strike one, fit and swung on, and missed. Nothing in two.
- 37:15Tomorrow night, Don Cardwell will pitch for the Mets, and Dave Justy for the Astros.
- 37:20We'll be on the air at 8.55 p.m. New York time.
- 37:25Sure ball misses everything. Over the head of Bateman and on back up against the screen.
- 37:32Count goes to one and two.
- 37:35I'll tell you, more pitches are just a screen tonight than a VISTA catcher's glove.
- 37:43Bud Harrelson's waiting on deck.
- 37:48One-two delivery, swung on, and missed.
- 37:52The third strikeout, set it to two, but let's see if he got Taylor swinging.
- 37:57Two away, and Bud Harrelson's coming up.
- 37:59He walked and scored in the first inning.
- 38:06Batting right against the left-handers.
- 38:20Now the pitch, and it's time for a ball, one-nil.
- 38:27We'll be broadcasting and televiseding from the Astrodome here on Wednesday night, 8.55 p.m. New York time.
- 38:34Then the Mets will be back at Shea Stadium on Friday night against the San Francisco Giants.
- 38:40Here's a one-oh pitch. It's inside. Lowell comes all the way back to the screen.
- 38:47It in the dirt and bounded over the glove while Bateman, two and oh.
- 38:54Malinsky turns his back to the plate, pops the ball into his glove at time of two,
- 38:58and that comes down on the forward side of the mound where he's been striding to smooth out the mound there.
- 39:10And offers two-oh. The pitch is high.
- 39:13It's behind Harrelson, three and oh, with Pleon Jones waiting on deck.
- 39:25The three-oh delivery. Lowell.
- 39:28It's a walk to Harrelson, second time he's done a walk tonight, and the third walk is finished by Malinsky.
- 39:37It's the 29th base on balls that Harrelson has drawn this year. He leads the Mets in that department.
- 39:44It's an all-important department, especially in the case of a man like Harrelson, because he puts good speed on the bases.
- 39:51Two-way and Pleon Jones is coming up.
- 39:54He smacks the ground ball down past Aspermonte.
- 39:57In the first inning it was scored as an error on Aspermonte, although it looked from our vantage point as though it took a bad hop.
- 40:04It had bent down to play the short hop and suddenly clenched away from it, indicating that it certainly did not follow the trajectory he had thought it would.
- 40:11The official scorer charged error.
- 40:15Pitch is high for ball. It's one and oh.
- 40:22In many minor league cities it is accepted practice for the scorer to favor the home team,
- 40:28the practice that's been going on for lo these many years.
- 40:33This will be a one-oh pitch.
- 40:35It's run on an underground Detroit, taken there by Lilith and played over to Morgan for the fourth of each other's class.
- 40:41No runs, no hits, no errors, a walk, and one left.
- 40:48And the score in the middle of the second is the Mets 2 and the Astros 2.
- 40:54You know when you're a pro, you're a pro. Either you have it or you don't.
- 40:58Like sometimes a rookie comes along and he looks so good everyone thinks the guy may be another Ty Cobb.
- 41:04He runs like him. He walks and hits like him.
- 41:07In fact, everyone's sure it's a Georgia Peep reincarnated.
- 41:11But then two weeks after the season begins, the three, someone on the other team spots that the guy can't hit a curve, and that's it. He's through.
- 41:19Two weeks later you mention the rookie's name and the fans don't even remember him.
- 41:23You've really got a habit to make it, especially in a tough town like New York.
- 41:28New York's rough. You know there are 302 brands of beer in the city.
- 41:33302, that's a lot of brands competing with each other.
- 41:36And you know the beer that's made it to the top? Rheingold.
- 41:40How come? It's the beer itself, the way it tastes, that rich, dry lager.
- 41:46Rheingold tastes good day after day.
- 41:49That's what a real pro is, can quickly.
- 41:54In the bottom of the second now, it is Doug Rader coming up for his first time.
- 41:58He's just been recalled from Oklahoma City, 23 years of age yesterday, right hand battered,
- 42:05called the Red Rooster because of his red hair.
- 42:11Ron Taylor deals the pitch.
- 42:13He's in for a call strike.
- 42:17Rader is a native of Illinois, and the Astros are very high on the future prospects of this young fellow.
- 42:28Pitch is outside, it's one and one.
- 42:30Chuck Harrison was sent to Oklahoma City, sustained a broken thumb yesterday,
- 42:35and they could not put him on the disabled list because they had Ron Brand and Sonny Jackson on the disabled list already.
- 42:44The one-one delivery, swung on and hit on the ground towards third, charged by Charles,
- 42:49and he's posted on, and he's a very good, not in bad, he's a great hit.
- 42:55Charles has an unexpected half-off the last set that Charles had to reach way up for,
- 42:59and as a result, his throw was a little high over to a dunk, but Rader beat it for a base hit.
- 43:07So his first time up in the Major League, Doug Rader beats out an infield bouncer.
- 43:13It leads off the bottom of the second and ranks up, Chasie Johnny Bateman.
- 43:22To complete the thought we had charged a moment ago, we were saying that in minor league cities,
- 43:26it was an accepted practice for the scorer to be pro-Halton team.
- 43:30Here in Houston, it's a practice that has carried over during the Major League years here.
- 43:39Had nothing to do with the scoring on that particular play, that was a base hit.
- 43:43Throw over to first, not in time.
- 43:45That goes back to an old, old powder baseball when they owned their own players in the minor league cities,
- 43:50and they wanted to have a very respectable batting average to show so they could sell that ball player for more money.
- 43:58Right, here's the pitch, and it's in for a golf tie.
- 44:02The reason for that was we didn't own any players.
- 44:07San Francisco did it very much so in the past when they had fellows like Paul Winter, Lloyd Winter, and Joe DiMaggio.
- 44:15Here's the trouble, you mean with a little help on a hit here, now until they're hitting 390, they hit 410.
- 44:20Hit 410, that's right.
- 44:30Right in, he's at first, and he goes. Here's the play, and he's on the way to 3, and he's right there.
- 44:39And he has on the third, he's held up there, it's the ball in between, so he has to execute it to hit the line,
- 44:46and later on from moving on the pitch, Bill Lamb wants to second the ball, but it's not hit hard, but it's dribbled through for a base hit.
- 44:55So quickly the Astros have run it at first and third with nobody out in the bottom of the second, and Bob Lilich is coming up.
- 45:07He's at number 8 in the order, hitting 259, four runs better than he's a right-hand batter.
- 45:14The score is tied, 2-2. Mets got two in the top of the first, and the Astros got them back in the bottom of the first.
- 45:20Mets set the infield double play depth.
- 45:32Ball is funded up into the air to Cranepool at first, no other play.
- 45:36So trying to bounce the ball up the first base line, Lilich instead pops out to Cranepool in fair territory.
- 45:42Run away, runners holding first and third.
- 45:50This year, Bob Olenski is the batter. Hitting 120, he's been up 25 times in that three hits, he's batted in one run.
- 45:59He is a left-hand batter.
- 46:07Greg Goosen calls time and goes to the mound for a word with Ron Taylor.
- 46:35Ron Taylor then forward to take the sign.
- 46:42Now he's stuck, and the pitch.
- 46:45Get on the ground to first. Cranepool is going home, and at the plate, he is out.
- 46:52A little scramble for a moment between catcher Greg Goosen and Maceman of Doug Rader.
- 46:57Rader made his slide and did not get to the plate, cleared off to one side, and Goosen had not tagged him either at that point.
- 47:05So umpire Shag Crawford waited until Goosen tagged him a second time, or tagged at him a second time, and then made the out call.
- 47:14So the play goes 3-2 if you're scoring. Moving up to second base is John Bateman.
- 47:20And on at first now, on the field is choice is Balensky with two men out.
- 47:32Runners at first and second two away, and Ron Davis is up.
- 47:36He led off with a home run in the bottom half of the first inning.
- 47:40Now Shag Crawford calls time as he observes that Bo Balensky does not have the habit to actually properly outfitted as yet.
- 47:46He is buttoning up the jacket.
- 47:49Balensky was known and was proud of his reputation as a nightlife aficionado in his days in Los Angeles and Hollywood and Beverly Hills.
- 47:57Then when he was farmed out to quieten him down, they sent him from all places to Honolulu.
- 48:02Here is a pitch hit on the ground, a broken back down ball is second, taken by Lindsey.
- 48:06Bumble good hand now goes over and tags the bat.
- 48:09Bill let Bumble the ball, picked it up thought perhaps he'd have no chance at the fourth and was ready to try to throw it first,
- 48:15but he really would have had no play and noted that Balensky was not running.
- 48:19Balensky was jogging down to second and the fans are expressing a little displeasure with him,
- 48:24so let's pick the ball up then and kick the bag.
- 48:27The Astros, no runs, two hits, no errors and two lefts, and at the end of two full innings the score is the Mets 2 the Astros 2.
- 48:38This problem, and they've developed a very simple formula. If your car is two years old, have the battery tested regularly.
- 48:48The few minutes it takes to have the battery tested can save you time and expense later.
- 48:53See your golf dealer for a battery test today.
- 48:57We're going to the top of the third and coming in now for the play-by-play Bob Murphy.
- 49:12All right Lindsey, Tommy Davis will lead off against Bill Balensky in the top of the third.
- 49:20One of the two home runs in the second game of yesterday's double header by Jim Wynn was inside the park.
- 49:27Two other inside the park home runs in the Astrodome since they opened the doors,
- 49:31one by Sonny Jackson, he's now on the disabled list, the other by Rusty Stopp.
- 49:37Actually the inside the park home run by Jim Wynn yesterday was nothing more than a line drive single to center field.
- 49:46The official scorer gave Wynn an inside the park home run and the ball struck the shin of Tommy Reynolds and was booted about 150 feet over in the left field.
- 50:03Tommy Davis hitting a three-10, he's single to home a run of the opening inning for Tommy, his 52nd run batted in.
- 50:09And the pitch by Balensky is hit high in the air and foul. Over toward the dugout goes Johnny Bateman, he has no play.
- 50:24Ron Swaboda waiting on deck and then Ed Charles. New York two runs, one hit, no errors. Houston two runs, five hits and one error.
- 50:42The outfield swung around the left and the pitch by Balensky is fouled back into the screen and the count strikes two on Tommy Davis.
- 50:59Sally Hemas here watching the ball game tonight. Sally looking good as always.
- 51:04He was back at Shea Stadium for the big old timers event. The two strike delivery, a fly ball hit the right field, Stubb is coming in, Morgan goes out and Stubb makes the catch.
- 51:19One out and nobody on, Tommy retired on the high fly to short right field, it brings up Ron Swaboda. Ron reached on a walk his first time up.
- 51:29Ron hitting 252 has seven homers and 24 runs batted in.
- 51:39Check swing and a fast ball outside and high ball went.
- 51:55Swing and a miss on a good fast ball by Balensky and Ron dropped his bat. One ball, one strike.
- 52:05Bo Balensky's victories this year have been over the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs.
- 52:17Bo does not have a complete game to his credit.
- 52:24Now the left hander out of his land at the pitcher Ron curved inside and low it's two balls and a strike.
- 52:37Balensky's last three outings have all been against Pittsburgh. Swing and a miss on the slider in the count two and two.
- 52:58Now the 2-2 delivery. Swing and a miss, he'sb struck it out and Balensky fans Ron Swaboda.
- 53:21One out and nobody on. The batter is Ed Charles. Ed was struck out his first time up tonight and he lifted the pitch off the outside corner, ball one.
- 53:34Bo Balensky has now struck out four.
- 53:43Bo Balensky cranks up, in comes the pitch and a fast ball is in for a close strike. Gets one ball, one strike.
- 54:11No runs, no hits, no errors, then left. At the end of two and a half innings, the New York Mets two and the Houston Astros two.
- 54:39Off to the end of Saint那麼 School Projects, the New York Bulldogs the four.

- 1:03:12your dial is set at the new bright sound and radio WGY 810 on your dial in
- 1:03:18Schenectady New York
- 1:03:21Ralph Kiner along with Lindsey Nelson now Bob Murphy for the play-by-play
- 1:03:27Greg Gilson leading office we go to the fourth inning and he fouls the breaking
- 1:03:32pitch across the Astro turf back toward the dugout out of play
- 1:03:43next pitch on the way and Greg has to jump to get out of the way
- 1:03:47Malensky nothing way inside and low one ball one strike no point in telling you
- 1:03:54about the hot weather in Houston because it's been just as hot on the east and
- 1:03:59besides you don't mind here with air-conditioned baseball one one
- 1:04:03delivery a strike on the outside corner it's one ball and two strikes
- 1:04:08it's amazing the thousands and thousands of people that drive hundreds of miles
- 1:04:20to take the tourist trip of the Astrodome a smash the third caught picked up by
- 1:04:26Aspermati on the first half he takes the dug greater for the up
- 1:04:31like Richardson was saying yesterday that already a 1 million 300,000 people
- 1:04:38have taken the one dollar guided tour of the Astrodome one out of nobody on any
- 1:04:44crane rule coming up Wilson hit the ball sharply but he hit it right at the feet
- 1:04:49of Bob Aspermati any crane rule over one he's got the left his initial time at
- 1:04:54bat and he's batting average is 286 left-hander against left-hander and it's
- 1:05:00blowing outside ball one
- 1:05:10the next two on the Astros to here on the fourth inning
- 1:05:13Polinsky delivers an overhand fastball low ball to its 2-0 on Ed Crane pool
- 1:05:20the Mets have only one hit and that was a run scoring hit by Tommy Davis in the
- 1:05:24first inning their second run across the plate on a wild pitch by Bolinski
- 1:05:30now it is taking all the way and the pitch is over for a call strike two and
- 1:05:34one
- 1:05:38Orlando's of theta had three RBI's and the Cardinals nine to two went over the
- 1:05:42Cubs today Lou Brock drove in for third flood is back in action he had four for
- 1:05:48five round all hit down to first up later up with it steps on first two down
- 1:05:55interesting thing about the Cardinals were out there rolling right along there
- 1:05:59in the best shape right now they've been in all year long they've been moving
- 1:06:03ahead even though they've been without their ace pitcher Bob Gibson they
- 1:06:06certainly have they have covered up that loss and when Gibson gets back that'll
- 1:06:10be a big boost for them if he can pitch like he would normally be able to fit
- 1:06:13they have Bob Gibson and Kurt Flood both on the sideline flood one of the top
- 1:06:19ballhouse in the game today is now back in action and he's a top hitmaker he's
- 1:06:23usually around 200 hits every year Bill ends as the hitter and he takes the
- 1:06:28pitch by Balinski ball one Bill lined up the third baseman Bob Aspermonte his
- 1:06:35first time up ground ball hit down to Aspermonte he's up with it throw from
- 1:06:42the edge of the carpet
- 1:06:49so it is now retired seven consecutive batters no runs no hits no errors and
- 1:06:55none left and at the end of three and a half the New York Mets to the Houston
- 1:06:59Astros to now here's the word from Rangel there's a guy in New York who has
- 1:07:04a ball it's made of iron and it weighs two tons he bounces it against building
- 1:07:13and the wall from coming down I'm what they call a ball man there are just
- 1:07:19actually 50 of us around and five really good ones I mean expert well you see
- 1:07:25those three walls there I cannot go fit along with one swing and still put the
- 1:07:29put the ball down on a postman stand you know that about three weeks ago I got a
- 1:07:34call the guy needed me on a Monday and I had a job so it's kind of flattering the
- 1:07:38guy held up the construction for a week until that but I was available if you're
- 1:07:42gonna throw your weight around in New York you really got to know what you're
- 1:07:46doing same things true of beer there are 302 beers trying to make it in New York
- 1:07:51today from all over but only one beer has made it to the top the rich dry
- 1:07:56lager Ryan go Ryan go in this town either you have it or you don't
- 1:08:07last half of the fourth inning Bob asked for money rookie Doug Raider and
- 1:08:13toucher John Bateman will be the three hitters coming up against Ron Taylor
- 1:08:18third flood the Cardinals brilliant center fielder came back in the back
- 1:08:22into the action over the weekend in a series against Atlanta heard out an
- 1:08:26injured shoulder after crashing into a fence he'd been out about a month here's
- 1:08:31the picture on the way a call strike on the outside corner the Cardinals are
- 1:08:37four and a half games out and they're in great shape in the loss talent a little
- 1:08:41bit earlier in the year to be talking much about the loss talent but nonetheless
- 1:08:43it takes on added importance with each passing day for example third place
- 1:08:52Cincinnati swinging a miss by asked for money
- 1:08:57the Reds are playing tonight and right now they are nine games behind the
- 1:09:01Cardinals in the last column the Atlanta Braves are seven games back in the last
- 1:09:06column the Giants and Pirates those Giants are 10 games back in the Pirates
- 1:09:1211 games back in the last column one ball and two strikes
- 1:09:30now Ron here they're getting his sign from Greg Goosen the fixed ask for
- 1:09:34money you've hit down the right field line it may drop in
- 1:09:39rolling down into the right field corner after money around second will stop
- 1:09:43there with a double ball placed about a foot inside the line and went down into
- 1:09:49the corner 340 feet out ask for money and still not go a hundred percent on
- 1:09:57the face he has been out of an answering muscle pull and just recently returned
- 1:10:02to the lineup now Doug Rader is coming up for Doug
- 1:10:06this is his third year and pro ball he was outstanding last year his second
- 1:10:12year and pro ball and got a real good look by the Astros during spring training
- 1:10:16he's actually a third baseman by trade Doug being used to first base tonight
- 1:10:22and he got a base that his first major league time at bat and infield hit his
- 1:10:29nickname is the red rooster and the first time up he's scratched one out
- 1:10:37here's the pitch by Ron Taylor it's inside bar one
- 1:10:42yeah Doug Rader right hand battery has good size 6-2 weighs about 95
- 1:11:02nobody out asked for money on second the game tied 2-2 and the pitch by Ron
- 1:11:07Taylor a swing and a miss by Doug Rader one ball one strike
- 1:11:26Doug Rader was brought up today when it was learned that Chuck Harrison severed
- 1:11:29a fractured thumb in yesterday's twin bill and a power ring pop-up down the
- 1:11:35first base line hope he doesn't lose this one in the wedding pain bull under
- 1:11:38it makes the catch just inside the line and fair territory this wedding is no
- 1:11:42problem at night but have that ball Ralph and if yesterday afternoon it
- 1:11:46would have been quite an adventure to think it's always an adventure on a fly
- 1:11:49ball here in the daytime we were talking with Doug Harvey and the unfiring crew
- 1:11:53that's here tonight and they said that they didn't believe that you could ever
- 1:11:56play a successful game here in the daytime the way it's set up right now
- 1:12:00you just have to lose some fly balls in the high ceiling here where the light
- 1:12:03colored through the opaque glass you're gonna stand alongside one of the coaches
- 1:12:09in the pregame drills when they hit fungoes just stand there and try to
- 1:12:13follow the ball and it's almost impossible in the afternoon when the
- 1:12:18Sun is shining through here's the pitch on the way swing and a miss by Johnny
- 1:12:24Bateman strike one seems to be a worse this year than it was last which may
- 1:12:28indicate nothing more is needed than another paint job you can go broke
- 1:12:34painting that grass up there though Bob I can go rope broke right in the
- 1:12:38bicycle of the corner where you're talking about you have to pay somebody
- 1:12:42to pump it you do tires now the picture on the way now ball back into the screen
- 1:12:51what are you supposed to pay you an addict on up there and paint that for
- 1:12:53there's not enough money you don't like those high altitude son no you fighter
- 1:12:59pilots are all alike I want something under there with a motor that's going
- 1:13:02through pulling through the air I don't want to be up there depending on myself
- 1:13:05flying your broadcasting partner went up there and people beat a lot to go up
- 1:13:10there too that's gonna be a record he rode up in the gondola the engineer
- 1:13:16walked up on the catwalk
- 1:13:19just drag delivery and Bateman was fooled that he held up in time one ball and two
- 1:13:25strikes I think the funniest thing of all and then he went to 208 feet to the top
- 1:13:33of the Astrodome in a gondola to broadcast after they got up there they
- 1:13:37realized the microphones were there and ready to go and realized somebody had to
- 1:13:41put them there well the engineer had walked up there on the catwalk he also
- 1:13:47had to go back up and get him here's the one to delivery and a ground ball hit
- 1:13:52hard toward the middle knocked down by land he's sample throws the first in
- 1:13:55time Bateman is not asked for money moving over to third
- 1:14:03now there are two away a runner on third game tied 2-2 in the fourth inning and
- 1:14:08the veteran shortstop Bobby Lillip is coming up Bobby hitting a 255 Houston
- 1:14:19two runs six hits one error in New York two runs one hit nowhere Ron Taylor is
- 1:14:25pitching in relief of Dennis Bennett Dennis was knocked out in the first
- 1:14:29inning by the Astros and Ron came in
- 1:14:33now it Charles even with the bag wide of the line of third little to right hand
- 1:14:42better but he's always a bunch of threats and a line drive in here to
- 1:14:45right for better racing
- 1:14:48the right to run to bounce directly back toward the empty so a little punch is a
- 1:15:08there's the first run off Ron Taylor and the Astros now go in front three to two
- 1:15:13well up using that big bat just punch the ball easily in the right field for
- 1:15:18him
- 1:15:23that is the first run scored off Ron Taylor in 14 and two thirds in a

- 1:15:36starting pitching has been faltering fastball outside and eyeball one both
- 1:15:44games yesterday the starting pitcher got off to a bad start after the starters
- 1:15:49left the game the relief court did a good job but it was too late
- 1:15:56Eddie Crane rule holding against Bobby Lillip at first two men away well let's
- 1:16:00punch the two-out single to right to break the tie
- 1:16:03Polinsky is the batter and the pitchers hit high on the air to center field

- 1:24:56in the last of any number of five Ron Davis leads off against Ron Taylor and
- 1:25:02looks for the pitch low and away ball one Ron Davis let after Houston first
- 1:25:09inning with a tremendous home run the deep love center his first home run of
- 1:25:14the year
- 1:25:18now the pitch to him foul ball it down the right field line no play at the time

- 1:25:27the first behind a home run by Ron Davis Joe Morgan double to right center
- 1:25:31stole third and came in as Jimmy Wynn grounded out to tie the game it is foul
- 1:25:39after the right one ball two strikes
- 1:25:49Ron Taylor Ron Taylor is on fourth round Taylor as we mentioned earlier is
- 1:25:55normally used as a short man in the bullpen the longest stretch he has worked
- 1:26:02this year has been four innings the pitch taken outside ball when he worked
- 1:26:07for any way back on June 16th against Chicago
- 1:26:20at San Francisco on this road trip he had a three and two third inning relief
- 1:26:24spin but he was brought in in the first inning of this game tonight the turn to
- 1:26:30Ron Tony and stitches hit foul down the third base line taken by Jim Busby
- 1:26:38so right at this moment Ron Taylor has worked four innings matching his
- 1:26:43previous long as spent of the year now Ron's 2-2 delivery to Ron Davis a fly
- 1:26:57ball hit in the air to left center field Leon Jones walked the stride
- 1:27:01Papskate glove and makes the catch for the hour
- 1:27:05one out of nobody I'm not Joe Morgan the second baseman coming up he doubled a
- 1:27:13right-center stole third and came in as when grounded out with a tying run in
- 1:27:17the second inning Morgan is hitting 295 the second time up facing Ron Taylor he
- 1:27:23hit the ball hard and lined out to Tommy Davis
- 1:27:27Oh
- 1:27:34speed that's the same side one ball no strike
- 1:27:39oh here's the pitch on the way fastball over the inside corner one ball one

- 1:28:13Limberlake and Mike Cuellar line hard in the other right the butter got up again
- 1:28:18you have to play it on the half of the base here Morgan around first with all
- 1:28:22there as the motor gets the ball back in and he's really coming in to the nasty
- 1:28:27happen is but helping on the left shoulder and buzz shakes it off goes right back
- 1:28:34to his building position
- 1:28:39long-hard hit
- 1:28:49total of five looks off Ryan Taylor since he replaced cuttings are gonna
- 1:28:52finish Jimmy when I'm about stop driving in a run in the first inning is 84th run
- 1:28:58batted in the Cardinals Orlando's the third I have 79 now Morgana speech they're
- 1:29:06leading on first base drive the throw and scampers back one out and one on and
- 1:29:14that's how the infield playing when of the pro hitter and they're set up
- 1:29:17looking for two the outfield rather deep and found around the left and another
- 1:29:21throw to first by Ron Taylor
- 1:29:30Greg Wilson that working behind the plate Greg just 21 years old and the
- 1:29:36opposition shows more of a willingness to run when he's behind the plate then
- 1:29:40when Jerry Grudy worked behind the plate bowed out
- 1:29:46one front so out of that that she wound up on one knee
- 1:30:09Eddie Crane bull holding against Joe Morgan the runner-on first now Ron Taylor
- 1:30:14again the fire is over to first base Ron convinced the Astros might have a play on
- 1:30:20he's really working on Joe Morgan when right hand batter been slightly from the
- 1:30:27way and overly close batting staff
- 1:30:33and apply that he's the center and it's quite a little bit on Joe he's under it
- 1:30:39and he makes the guess two men away Morgan holding and first it brings up
- 1:30:46rusty staff and the freckles face redhead from the wall he isn't there
- 1:30:52a real blockbuster in baseball this year he demonstrated last year that he was
- 1:30:58ready to take his place among the top hitters from the Nyska Lake and this
- 1:31:02year he's leaving the major legs and batting hitting 364 tonight rusty has
- 1:31:13fangled a right and fly to left one for two he has 124 bases he hits the ball
- 1:31:23from foul line to foul line a pitch shot nothing was on
- 1:31:42he helps himself a great deal by using the whole playing area to collect bases
- 1:31:47from the left field line to the right field line that's her playing him as a
- 1:31:52flight full hitter and rather deep in the outfield
- 1:31:58in comes the pitch to stab and it's in for a call strike one ball and one
- 1:32:03strike better than I've ever shared Crawford working behind the plate
- 1:32:09Chris Pellicudis Doug Harvey and John Kibler on the bases Houston 3 New York
- 1:32:19to where in the last half of the first inning
- 1:32:26the Astros about with them at the each to one they lead by one run
- 1:32:32there goes the runner a pitch shot number take by Dixon
- 1:32:36Joe Morgan tonight he's going third base to the first inning for Joe Morgan his
- 1:32:5011th stolen base of the year
- 1:32:56now first base is open as a result of the stolen base and let's see how they
- 1:33:01he liked to do it with rusty's staff now they're going to put him on right hand
- 1:33:06around Taylor is the pitchers of stab will be intentionally
- 1:33:22right here we power for station identification this is the New York
- 1:33:26Mets baseball network the new bright sound in radio this is WGY a 10 on your

- 1:33:54for money coming up big crowd here are the Astrodome got quite a kick out of
- 1:33:58the fact that they flashed the word chicken on the message board because of
- 1:34:02the intentional watch what they used to say when they were little kids
- 1:34:12that's one way to keep Morgan from running because when you take away a
- 1:34:15chance for the Major League leading batter to hit it's got to be a play that
- 1:34:19you might not pull too often if you're gonna walk that man
- 1:34:23on the air to left by after money and I'll soon galloping out in terms of any
- 1:34:28Davis and then he has it the side is up that was on this road trip in San
- 1:34:32Francisco with Jim Ray Hart waiting on deck and Willie May is double down the
- 1:34:37left field line and deliberately stopped at first so the method after pitch to
- 1:34:41heart and hard practice rerun Homer in the first inning no runs one hit no
- 1:34:47errors two left on so at the end of five of the ground who comes out the
- 1:34:53manicure of the diamond for the second half of the game Houston three runs eight
- 1:34:57hits in one air to your two runs one hit and nowhere well in baseball if you're a

- 1:36:18start over Iran as they come up in the sixth inning and to follow the action
- 1:36:21for you here's Ralph Kainer okay Bob Murphy and hi everyone Tommy Davis will
- 1:36:25be the leadoff batter for the Mets that have had two runs on one base it the
- 1:36:33base it was by Tommy Davis in the first it drove in the run that's got their
- 1:36:37other run in that same inning on a wild pit since then they have had one base
- 1:36:41runner that was Bud Harrelson who walked in the second Bobalinski pitching for
- 1:36:46the Houston Astros Astros about three runs and eight base hits off starting
- 1:36:51pitcher Dennis Bennett and relief pitcher Ron Taylor
- 1:36:56Davis with his base hit batting at 309 and the first pitch is hit down to
- 1:37:02today so one hopper hopper for the second baseman Joe Morgan the throw to first is
- 1:37:07in time for the hour so Balinski picks up another one and it brings up Ron
- 1:37:14Sabota who has walked and struck out
- 1:37:24Balinski has retired 11 batters in a row and the left-hander starts off with Rod
- 1:37:29and picks up a strike over the inside corner right about knee-high
- 1:37:38Ron batting 251 and the next pitch is a curveball that breaks over taking again
- 1:37:44strike two big change here by Bobalinski the start of the ball game both Bobalinski
- 1:37:51and Dennis Bennett had their troubles Bennett was knocked out both pitchers
- 1:37:56were extremely wild bouncing pitches in front of the plate and up against the
- 1:38:00screen two strike pitches way outside one ball two strikes
- 1:38:08Rod in the series has had one hit in six times up this is a five game series and
- 1:38:13that's playing the third game here tonight they lost the first two in a
- 1:38:16doubleheader yesterday six to five and nine to one Astros leading the series
- 1:38:24this year one two pitchers rounded down in the dirt foul now remains at one ball
- 1:38:31and two strikes
- 1:38:36Mets and Astros have met nine times and Mets have won for the Astros five here in
- 1:38:41Houston the Mets have yet to win a ball game and they fill the Astros by three
- 1:38:45and a half games now with their doubleheader locked yesterday
- 1:38:49and Balinski back in a curveball is over the inside corner strike three and
- 1:38:55Bobalinski struck out. Two men away and the top of the sixth that brings up Ed Charles
- 1:39:01Ed was struck out his first time up and down about the short and second that is
- 1:39:06the sixth strike out for Bobalinski
- 1:39:11Charles the right hand batter hitting 265 with three home runs and 19 runs batted
- 1:39:16in three to two the Astros and the first pitchers grounded right back to Bobalinski
- 1:39:20almost goes away as he goes over to first base a big group of pitchers he
- 1:39:24took it over almost threw it over the head out the first baseman Norm Rader but he got the
- 1:39:29play there and that retires the side in order and the score at the end of five
- 1:39:34and a half innings the Astros three the Mets two. Mets fans imagine if you can a

- 1:40:42bottom half of the 60 Astros batting they lead three to two on the mound for the
- 1:40:46Mets Ron Taylor in the first batter he'll be picking two will be Doug Rader
- 1:40:49the first baseman and the first pitchers over the outside corner strike Doug was
- 1:40:54brought up to the major league yesterday and his first time a batting at a base
- 1:40:58hit the left field he's one foot two and batting 500. Rader a right hand batter
- 1:41:05big tall fella he'll be followed by John Bateman Ron Taylor back with a breaking
- 1:41:10ball swung on strike two
- 1:41:16Astros three runs eight hits and that's two runs in one hit both sides got two runs in the
- 1:41:23first the Astros took the lead with a run in the bottom half of the fourth
- 1:41:29and the next pitchers swung out in that strike three so Rader is struck out for
- 1:41:34the first time in the major league he came to the Astros batting 293 at
- 1:41:38Oklahoma City in 75 ballgames that'll bring up John Bateman that strikeout was
- 1:41:43Ron Taylor's second strikeout he came in the ballgame in the first with one man
- 1:41:47out
- 1:41:49they've been has a base hit and two times up his base it was a hit and run base
- 1:41:56hit to move Rader over to third base but he was left there I was back in the
- 1:42:02second first pitch by Taylor outside of all
- 1:42:07Bateman batting 204 he has never stolen a base in major league history
- 1:42:21one oh pitch is swung on a vicious swing in a miss strike one one ball one strike
- 1:42:26I guess that statement must sound a little bit out of content because we
- 1:42:30weren't talking about stolen bases but every time I look at John Bateman I just
- 1:42:33thought it's a he ain't gonna steal any bases other day though he tried to be
- 1:42:41down a bun he didn't make it fortunately for him he missed the ball
- 1:42:48now to one one pitch over a good fastball one ball two strikes thing about John
- 1:42:53Bateman Rob not only is he slow but he also has a practice foot a broken fibula
- 1:42:59what's that one and two with one man out we're in the bottom half of the sixth a
- 1:43:05method training by one gotta give him a lot of credit for playing with a broken
- 1:43:10bone in his foot pitchers outside his ball to 2000 two strikes he and Bob
- 1:43:17Gibson had the same injury Bob took two three batters after he broke his and
- 1:43:22Bateman played three innings after he broke his foot two balls to strike
- 1:43:35such as and broke his finger yesterday and was out high fly ball off the centerfield
- 1:43:41Leon Jones moving back it's way up there and he has a play for the out that
- 1:43:47Harrison swung at a ball and it hit his hand and they call it a strike he did
- 1:43:56not get first base three because when you swing in a bit no matter what
- 1:44:00happened if it hits you or whatever it's a strike it broke his thumb and he has
- 1:44:05been put on the disabled list of a minor league ballpark fuck Rob I think that
- 1:44:10particular play is probably a perceiving to the fans in the ballpark any play
- 1:44:14that you can have because the better actually you hit right between the eyes
- 1:44:17with baseball and not get to go to first base that he swung at the fifth that's
- 1:44:20right the ball is dead as a strike now the pitch to the next batter Bobby
- 1:44:26Miller has popped up in the shallow white field launch the voter playing very
- 1:44:29shallow makes the play for the after the tower to start an order one two three
- 1:44:34for Ron Taylor and the score at the end of six the Astros three to met two now
- 1:44:39here's the words of my goal have you noticed football news starting to find
- 1:44:43its way into the sports faces well I'm sure you have and say is this the year
- 1:44:48the just take off and go all the way well you've got an opportunity to get a line
- 1:44:53on this year's or just dragging out August the fourth when they meet the

- 1:45:55opener the Jets against the Patriots Friday night August the 4th at Kennedy
- 1:46:01Stadium in Bridgeport Connecticut now back to the Mets action and Mr. Keiner
- 1:46:06okay Bob Murphy the Mets have how run up starting to loosen up in the bullpen
- 1:46:10Mets are down to their 6 7th and 8th batters here in this inning if they get a
- 1:46:16Mets man on base they'll have to go to the pitcher's position so they're
- 1:46:20getting ready in case they need a pinch hitter well Balinski has been 15 fine
- 1:46:24ball since he settled down after the first inning he has retired his last
- 1:46:3013 batters and he's getting set to pitch for Greg Goosin in the first he walked
- 1:46:34Bud Harrelson Leon Jones on a hard smash was charged with a time at bat when an
- 1:46:39arrow was charged to Bob Aspermonte and his ball and went through in the left
- 1:46:42field putting runners at first and second Tommy Davidson single to right
- 1:46:46field to drive in the first run of the game Ron Soprano the next batter wants
- 1:46:53to put runners on further down at first and second Ed Charles truck out and a
- 1:46:58wild pitch allowed a run to come in the Mets got their second run Greg Goosin
- 1:47:04and the first pitch is fouled back a home plate out of play strike one
- 1:47:10Goosin was batting on the wild pitch and the Mets got their second run his other
- 1:47:14jam up he lined a hard smash down to third base and a good play by Aspermonte
- 1:47:18put him out so Greg is 0 for 2 in the game
- 1:47:25Goosin's batting 259 he'll be followed by Ed Crane cool and Phil Linn
- 1:47:30and Belensky now back the next pitch is hit off the hands out for the pitchers
- 1:47:34now Belensky right on the mound makes a sign that he'll take it and he makes a catch for the out
- 1:47:42that'll bring up Ed Crane for who also is 0 for 2 Ed now batting 285 final score
- 1:47:49Atlanta beats the Cincinnati Reds 5 to 2 the winning pitcher was Phil Negros
- 1:47:54he fits a 9 hitter losing pitcher was Mel Queen
- 1:47:58Clee Boyle a home run in the fifth with one on
- 1:48:02so the St. Louis Cardinals picking up a game on the Cincinnati Reds does one hit over second base
- 1:48:08going in back of the bag that's shortstop Bob Lilis he comes up with the ball
- 1:48:12throws the first base for the out ball is not hit hard right off the hands
- 1:48:17Lilis got in back of the bag to make the play in time took it on one hop and threw over to first
- 1:48:21now with two men out Phil Lintz will be the batter
- 1:48:25Cardinals picked up a full game on Chicago they lost today by a score of 9 to 2 to St. Louis
- 1:48:30they lead them by four and a half game Cincinnati in losing
- 1:48:34dropping back to 81 half game back
- 1:48:42now the first pitch to Phil Lintz it is
- 1:48:455 of that
- 1:48:55Lintz is 0 for 2 and a breaking ball is down low ball 2
- 1:49:00two balls no strike
- 1:49:05paid a tenancy today 15,001
- 1:49:17and the next pitch is over
- 1:49:19so the count now two balls one strike
- 1:49:24Astros have drawn 943,873
- 1:49:28for their overall season a swing and a change up strike two
- 1:49:32Phil Lintz pulled completely a good pitch by Bob Lilis
- 1:49:35two balls two strikes
- 1:49:44Atlanta in winning that ball game against Cincinnati
- 1:49:47holding their position
- 1:49:50now a called strike three and Lilis gets a 7 strike out
- 1:49:54is 1,2,3 any
- 1:49:58here's been 16 batters retired in a row and the score at the end of six and a half innings
- 1:50:03the Astros 3 to that 2

- 1:51:17going out of the bottom half of the 7th, Al Renna who was warming up has now
- 1:51:21completed his warm-ups and is sitting down
- 1:51:24and that's to not get four men up in the inning so they didn't have to go to a pinch hitter
- 1:51:29and Ron Tinder now goes out the pitch here in the bottom half of the 7th
- 1:51:33Ron came in the game and the first inning was one man out
- 1:51:36he has given up four base hits, allowed one run
- 1:51:41his first man will be Bo Galenki, Bo is 0 for 2
- 1:51:45Bo is a left-hand batter, he's been about 27 times with three hits
- 1:51:49when he fouls the first pitch, strike one, ball down the ditch
- 1:51:53it'll be Bo Galenki, Ron Davis and Joe Morgan
- 1:51:56Morgan had a lead off home run in the first for the Afros first run
- 1:52:00it was his fifth this year, then Joe Morgan doubled
- 1:52:03sold second base, his 10th stolen base of the year
- 1:52:06and his first of two in this game
- 1:52:09and scored when Jim Wynn ran it out the short
- 1:52:13that tied up the ball game at 2 to 2
- 1:52:16next pitch to Galenki is down low, one ball, one strike
- 1:52:20the Astros got their lead in the fourth inning on a double by Bob Aspermonte
- 1:52:24down the right field line
- 1:52:26after Doug Rader had popped the first base
- 1:52:29John Bateman rounded down to second base and Aspermonte went over to third
- 1:52:33where he scored on the single in the shallow right field by Bobby Lillis
- 1:52:38now foul ball coming straight back
- 1:52:41he counted one and two
- 1:52:46starting pitcher for the Mets was Dennis Bennett
- 1:52:49he gave out two runs and one third of an inning with charge with three hits
- 1:52:55when Ron Taylor came in the game, he came in with
- 1:53:00runners at, a runner at first base and got Bob Aspermonte to hit into a double play
- 1:53:09so he has worked five and two thirds innings
- 1:53:12and the next pitch is inside, it's ball two, two balls, two strikes
- 1:53:15that is the longest he has gone this year
- 1:53:23two balls, two strikes
- 1:53:28Galenki with a close stand, swinging the bat back and forth
- 1:53:32and the pitch by Taylor popped up in foul territory and it will go out of play
- 1:53:39so Galenki prolongs his time of bat
- 1:53:49one of both famous quotes, if music be the champagne of love then play on
- 1:54:00a fellow by the name of Shakespeare might have written that first
- 1:54:08here's the two two pitch
- 1:54:10and it's down low and they count now two balls and two strikes
- 1:54:15Phil considers having a good season in the major leagues
- 1:54:18is just sticking around all year
- 1:54:28new ball put in play by Shag Crawford and he gets the hand for firing the ball back to the pitchers now
- 1:54:34his public good at the umpire first base, Doug Harvey at second and John Kibber at third
- 1:54:43three and two
- 1:54:47and the pitchers call strike three and Ron Taylor
- 1:54:51picks up a borderline strike out his second in the ball game and that's the first out here in the bottom half of the seventh
- 1:54:56and brings up the leadoff batter Ron Davis
- 1:55:09Ron with a base hit and three times up his base hit was his fifth home run
- 1:55:15right hand batter and the first pitch by Taylor is bunted out toward third
- 1:55:19here comes Charles, a tough play for him, he slips the first baser and it is in time
- 1:55:24time play by Ed Charles and a close play by Nellie Fox who's talking with Chris Barker about the call
- 1:55:31but that is all, not a strong quote though
- 1:55:38so Ed Charles who has been playing the find third base for the Mets picks up the second out and that brings up Joe Morgan
- 1:55:49Joe has had a good night, two for three with two stolen bases to run short
- 1:55:54Morgan now with an average of 297
- 1:55:59left hand batter with great speed
- 1:56:02three to two the Astroids, two men out bottom half of the seventh and Ron Taylor with the pitchers down low and inside and Morgan has to skip rope
- 1:56:12he'll have all the scores for you right after the end of this half inning, not a whole lot of action going but more do you think on a Monday night
- 1:56:25one old pitch over the inside corner, one ball one strike, Monday used to be off day for baseball years ago
- 1:56:32doubleheaders on Sunday with Monday off but it doesn't figure that way anymore
- 1:56:46and at one one the pitch to Morgan and it's lined to left field, it's curvy and it's up there
- 1:56:52Morgan goes to second with a double and holds there, ball stayed there by a matter of about three or four or five inches
- 1:57:02Morgan now three for four, that is his second double in the ball game, he now has 20
- 1:57:06and the Astros with two men out have a runner in scoring position with their big man coming up Jim Winn
- 1:57:21certain ball players against certain ball clubs seem to have some sort of inside information and they just do well
- 1:57:28then you look down at the sheet to see their overall batting record and you can't figure out how they can hit so poorly against the other clubs when they look so good against the club you watch them play
- 1:57:37Morgan of course does well against all clubs but he does exceptionally well against the Mets
- 1:57:42Jim Winn the batter and action in the bullpen for the Mets and the first pitch is outside the ball
- 1:57:47Don Shaw starting to warm up by left hander along with Hal Renes, Hal up for the second time
- 1:57:55Astros now have nine hits in the ball game and six off Ron Taylor
- 1:58:00this is a big point for the Mets in this game, they can get this man out without a run scoring, they're still close enough to get back in, they trail by one
- 1:58:09two men away, bottom half of the seventh, now Taylor who appears to be countering sets up and the pitch to the plate
- 1:58:17slung on and met the good fighter and they count now one ball on one side
- 1:58:21Ron has been taking a lot more time between pitches
- 1:58:25in fact he has been leaning over with his hands and his knees off of the pitching rubber before taking the sign
- 1:58:32this is the furthest he has gone
- 1:58:37came in the ball game in the first with one man out
- 1:58:40now the right hander sets up again, a check at second to one one pitch
- 1:58:44it is up high and it's ball two, two balls one strike
- 1:58:53Ron steps off the pitching rubber, mocks his brow, it's 72 degrees in here
- 1:58:57the temperature always at 72, the day outside it was 95 degrees with 70 percent humidity
- 1:59:08now Taylor looks in for the sign, two balls one strike
- 1:59:11a check at second Morgan there
- 1:59:14and the pitch to the plate and the ball is slung on a miss, again a good fighter down around the knees over the outer part of the plate
- 1:59:20so they count two and two with two men out here in the bottom half of the seventh
- 1:59:24on deck batter Rusty Stobb, the major league leading batter
- 1:59:28Jim Winn leads the major leagues and runs batted in in the national league in home runs
- 1:59:32he has 27 home runs and 84 runs batted in, pick one up today
- 1:59:42two balls two strikes and Taylor now
- 1:59:45what's the pitch?
- 1:59:46it is slung on a miss, strike three and Ron Taylor completes his pitching performance by striking out Jim Winn for a fine job, well done
- 1:59:54Taylor will be going out for a pinch hitter in the bottom half of the coming up inning
- 1:59:59and so that will be all for him, he worked a very strong six and two thirds inning
- 2:00:04and the strikeout was his fourth in the ball game as he worked through that time
- 2:00:11no runs, one hit, no errors, the man left at second base and the score at the end is seven
- 2:00:16the Astros three, the Mets two
- 2:00:19another game in the national league, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated Chicago nine to two
- 2:00:23the winning pitcher was Washburn, the losing pitcher was Nye, the Baylor got his 18th, Brock got his 14th
- 2:00:29San Francisco beat Pittsburgh eight to four, the winning pitcher McCormick, the losing pitcher Pizarro, Clem Denon and Hyatt had home runs

- 2:01:58Carol Sembera and Dan Schneider are up and throwing, the right hander and the left hander for the New York Mets, Hal Runniff continues to throw down in the bullpen
- 2:02:06as Johnson steps in now to face Bobalinski who has retired sixteen consecutive batters
- 2:02:15here's the first pitch in the eighth inning, swung on his high end of the air out in the left center field, Jim Winn goes over and toils
- 2:02:22he's underneath and waiting and Winn makes the catch, Johnson has flied off
- 2:02:26seventeen consecutive batters retired by Balinski as Bud Harrelson will come up
- 2:02:31he walked, walked and grounded off third to first
- 2:02:48now pitch to ten for a called strike
- 2:02:54Leon Jones has moved out on deck, Houston leading the Mets by a score of three to two
- 2:03:03Balinski takes the sign, here's the pitch, it's inside low for Ball
- 2:03:18Bobalinski got off to a shaky start here tonight but he's settled down, here's a one-one pitch and it's in for a called strike two
- 2:03:33Balinski's last major league complete game was June 29th, 1965, a seven to one win for the Phillies over the San Francisco Giants, here's the pitch high
- 2:03:44Bud goes two and two now to Harrelson
- 2:03:50the Mets scored two runs in the top of the first and left two runners on board
- 2:04:01this is a two-two delivery and it is hung out in Mets, Balinski gets his eighth strikeout
- 2:04:08now we pause for station identification, this is the New York Mets baseball network
- 2:04:15stay tuned to the new bright sound in radio, WGY, 810 on your dial in Schenectady, New York
- 2:04:25this is Lindsay Nelson with Ralph Garner and Bob Murphy at the Astrodome in Houston, Texas
- 2:04:30Mets are batting in the top of the eighth, trailing by a run, Leon Jones is up with nobody on base and two men out
- 2:04:36a right-handed batter facing left-hand pitcher, Bob Balinski, gives a swing and a foul ball on the ground back of third out of play
- 2:04:43rounding up against the railing outside the Mets dugout, third base umpire John Kibler retrieves the ball and crosses it across to the ball boy
- 2:04:51so it's a strike one counter, Leon Jones, he was out on an error by Aspromonte in the first inning, it was scored as an error, it was a hard smash down pass, Aspro
- 2:05:01Leon grounded into a fourth play in the second inning and he grounded out third to first in the fifth
- 2:05:10now the strike one delivery, swung on it on the ground a high hopper at a short, taken there by Lillis and gone across the first and just in time to get Leon Jones
- 2:05:19so now Bobalinski has retired, 19-inch competitive batters, no runs by Whistler, it's not left, in the middle of the eighth the score is the Astros 3, the Mets 2
- 2:05:34Why do they say detecting the disease early is important when it comes to cancer?
- 2:05:39Because it's less likely that early cancer has spread to more than one part of the body, therefore it can be cured more easily
- 2:05:47Question, well how could I tell I might have early cancer?
- 2:05:51Answer, you can't tell, but you can learn Cancer's 7 Danger Signals and go to your doctor if one appears
- 2:05:59Questions about cancer
- 2:06:03Knowing the correct answers could help you save your life
- 2:06:07The American Cancer Society says that knowing Cancer's 7 Danger Signals, knowing the value of yearly health checkups, knowing these things is your best protection against cancer
- 2:06:17For answers to questions you may have about this disease or for a free booklet of vital facts, write or telephone your American Cancer Society
- 2:06:42Follow the football action in Kennedy Stadium, Bridgeport, Friday night, August 4th, kickoff time is 7.30pm, don't miss it
- 2:06:55And now Hal Renov comes in to do the pitching for the New York Mets
- 2:06:59As Ron Taylor worked 6 and 2 third innings, he gave up only one run on 6th, he struck out four and he walked one intentionally
- 2:07:07Rusty Staub will be up to lead off for the Astros
- 2:07:11He is one for two and an intentional walk
- 2:07:18Hi, Ronov is making his 15th appearance of the season
- 2:07:22He has a record of three wins and one loss
- 2:07:25He worked yesterday for an inning in the first game, allowed no runs, no hits, struck out one and walked none
- 2:07:31Right hand to Renov, to the left hand by De Staub, it's low bounce off the glove of Goosen and on back to the screen, it's ball one
- 2:07:46Bob Aspermone on deck, 1-0 pitch to Staub, hits it to right, it's three back and Flamoto goes to the warning track and hauls it down
- 2:07:54Rusty Staub got a run on Edwin and drove it into the warning track and right, one away
- 2:08:02When you pull the tab on the Reingold Chug-a-Mug, the top comes off with a hit that sounds like the good Reingold flavor inside
- 2:08:09Six 12 ounce mugs to the carton, you'll find them in the Chug-a-Mug special displayed to local stores in New York and New Jersey
- 2:08:16Now Aspermone is up, Hal Renov feels the fix to flow for a ball
- 2:08:22By the way, Wednesday afternoon, August 9th, will be Senior Citizens Day at Shave Stadium, the Mets will be playing the Atlanta Braves
- 2:08:29And all fans 60 years of age or older will be admitted for the 50 cent service charge, that's Wednesday afternoon, August 9th
- 2:08:39Pitch to Aspermone and it is high for a ball, Renov goes behind 2-0
- 2:08:44The Astros are leading the Mets by a score of 3-2
- 2:08:48Then it takes a sign from Greg Goosen, deals 2-0, it's low, he goes behind 3 balls, no strike
- 2:08:57Dennis Bennett started here tonight, pitched a third of an inning, was charged with two runs on three hits
- 2:09:05Larry Sherry is up and throwing now in the Houston bullpen, here's a pitch high, Aspermone draws a walk
- 2:09:18That's only the second walk issued by Mets pitchers tonight
- 2:09:23Brings up Doug Rader who is making his Major League debut
- 2:09:28That's an infield hit in the second inning, he's knocked out in the fourth, he's stuck out in the sixth
- 2:09:36Manager Wes Westom now comes out of the dugout to talk to his battery men
- 2:09:42Talks to Renov and Goosen very briefly and Westom turns now, turns back to the dugout as by the time Westom got there, Renov was walking back to the mound already
- 2:10:03John Bateman is on deck, Renov's pitch, low and away, 1-1
- 2:10:20The bullpen areas here are located just at the far end of the dugout
- 2:10:34And the pitcher warming up is not facing the plate, he has his back to the plate
- 2:10:39Here's a 1-1 pitch, swung on, hit on the ground, a third, taken by Charles, he goes to Lintz, that's one, the relay to first, he saves it first, Rader beats the relay
- 2:10:52So the Astros have a runner at first now with two men out and John Bateman coming up to mid-side for a double play
- 2:10:58Going around from Charles to Lintz to Cranepool but Doug Rader beats the relay
- 2:11:04It's hard to say, the pitcher warming up here is a vulnerable target for foul balls and so Dave Eilert has drawn the short
- 2:11:12Eilert with the glove is facing the home plate area and he's about three feet behind Larry Sherry who is warming up throwing the other direction
- 2:11:22Now the pitch to Bateman, swung on and foul back off the screen at strike one
- 2:11:34I would guess that the assignment to go out there and protect the pitcher warming up is not one that carries a great deal of prestige with it
- 2:11:42Two well, a runner at first, Astros three and the Mets two
- 2:11:50Playing a foul ball to the right side, not a play, two strikes
- 2:11:58If you're not keeping score and you want to look ahead to the top of the ninth, the Mets are scheduled to send up Tommy Davis, Ron Swoboda and Ed Charles
- 2:12:09Now Lilith is waiting on deck, this will be a two strike pitch to John Bateman, Astromati leads and the pitch is funded on the ground to Sherry
- 2:12:28Charles up he's going, it's on to first, Lowell dug out on the short half by Cranepool in time to retire the side
- 2:12:34So how a run up comes in to get the Astros in the eighth with no runs, no hits, no errors, a walk in one left
- 2:12:42Towards the end of eighth ball innings, Houston three and the Mets two
- 2:12:46Zero in on performance and a feel of luxury that lets you know this is your car, Plymouth 1967

- 2:13:31Hurry though to Omri Garage, Central at Calvin in Albany, your Chrysler, Plymouth and Valiant volume headquarters
- 2:13:51We're going now to the top half of the ninth inning and the New York Mets will be sending up Tommy Davis, Ron Favota and Ed Charles
- 2:13:57Bo Bielanski who is on the ropes in the very first inning of this ballgame has a one hitter going to the ninth
- 2:14:03And despite the fact that he has a one hitter, manager Grady Hatton has double barrel action in the bullpen down here
- 2:14:09Dan Schneider and Larry Sherry throwing in the Houston bullpen as we go to the top of the ninth
- 2:14:17Houston leading by a score of 3-2
- 2:14:20In the top half of the first inning, Harrison Walk, Leon George smashed one down past Aspermati as was scored as an error
- 2:14:27And then Tommy Davis tingled the right to score a run and that was the only hit the Mets had had in this ballgame
- 2:14:32Favota Walk and after Charles struck out, Duesen was up to play when Bo Bielanski wild picked another run home
- 2:14:38The Mets had two but the Astros got two in the bottom of the first and came on to pick up another off Ron Taylor in the fourth
- 2:14:46And they lead 3-2
- 2:14:55So now Tommy Davis steps in as Bo Bielanski is facing the outfield getting settled down before turning to work
- 2:15:01To the Mets left fielder who tonight is 1-3
- 2:15:07Now Bo Bielanski picks one out of the clad out in the left field and can drop in for a base hit
- 2:15:12One hot guy wins a leadoff single here in the ninth inning, the second hit for the Mets off Bo Bielanski
- 2:15:19And Tommy Davis has them both, he is on it first representing tying run with nobody out in the ninth inning
- 2:15:30And now we're getting Dick Selma coming in to run for Tommy Davis at first base
- 2:15:34Dick Selma running for Davis at first
- 2:15:41Bo Bielanski struck out and struck out so far, hitting 250 for the season, right hand batter
- 2:15:50The greater holds against the runner, here's the pitch, swung on and fouled out, pitch strike one
- 2:15:54Ed Charles waiting in the Yandex circle, Duesen 3-2 with the New Yorkers batting in the top half of the ninth inning
- 2:16:09Bo Bielanski trying to turn in a complete game victory, here is the pitch low and away
- 2:16:14Bielanski has not had a complete game in the majors since June 29, 1965
- 2:16:22He goes to the rosin bag, tosses it down, adjusts his uniform down, hands on it, taking a little breather before getting ready to work again to Ron Swaboda
- 2:16:35The ball game is over in Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox have won it by a score of 4-2
- 2:16:40Cleveland out scorelessly in the 10th inning
- 2:16:43So they went it on a two run hold by Rocky Calovito in the 10th and he only got Calovito a couple of days ago from Cleveland
- 2:16:50Here's the pitch high, so it's 2-1 to Swaboda
- 2:16:55Well when you're going down the straights like the White Sox are and you pick up extra ball play that they can win one or two games for you
- 2:17:03I can assure you that you have invested well
- 2:17:11Right here in the midst, have the tying run at first, Selma leads and here is the pitch, hung on and pops up foul down the right field line
- 2:17:18Chased over by Swaboda but it's going right into the teeth and not a play
- 2:17:23Doug Rader the first baseman turned and went racing back in fair territory
- 2:17:27And Joe Morgan was cutting over and Saab was coming across toward the bullpen, the ball hit in the third row of the stands
- 2:17:34The count is even now, it's 2-2 to Ron Swaboda
- 2:17:40Houston three runs, nine hits, two runs, two hits
- 2:17:50Now Bo Balensky is up and steady, Jackson runner at first, and here's a 2-2 pitch high and away
- 2:17:55The count runs out full at three and two to Ron Swaboda
- 2:18:01Ed Charles kneeling in the on deck circle
- 2:18:05Balensky again turns his back to the plate, goes to the rising back, flips it down
- 2:18:16Selma leads, this will be a playoff pitch, it's on the way, high and away, walking
- 2:18:20That is the fourth walker in this game by Bo Balensky, here's the Mets runners at first and second
- 2:18:25And brings Houston manager Grady half-nil to the dugout
- 2:18:28Ed Charles will be the batter, he's got a right hand pitcher Larry Shurry down there and a left-hander Dan Schneider
- 2:18:34The Mets have the tying run at second base and the go-ahead run at first base with nobody out
- 2:18:40Here in the top half of the ninth inning
- 2:18:42Charles will be the batter and he's to be followed by Greg Goosin in the Mets batting order
- 2:18:46Grady Hadney's talking now to his batter men and the time goes to the bullpen, I think for Shurry
- 2:18:52Larry Shurry turns and starts walking in
- 2:18:56So Bo Balensky does not get a complete game no matter what
- 2:19:03Meanwhile Mets third base coach Sally Parker has been in the dugout talking to manager Wes Westerman
- 2:19:10He comes out to talk to Ed Charles, a little direct communication here so that there can't be any mix-up on time
- 2:19:15And a hand for Balensky
- 2:19:28Balensky takes eight full innings, plays two men here in the ninth
- 2:19:31So far with two runs on only two hits, he struck out nine and he walked three
- 2:19:38He had retired 19 consecutive batters when Tommy Davis got the single in the top half of the ninth inning
- 2:19:47And now as Shurry warms up to check us out on score, here's Ralph
- 2:19:50St. Louis Cardinals picked up a full game on the Chicago Cubs and also on the Cincinnati Reds
- 2:19:55They defeated the Chicago Cubs 9-2, the winning pitcher was Washburn, the losing pitcher was Nye
- 2:20:00Cepeda and Brock had home runs, Cepeda 18 now and Brock 14
- 2:20:04Cincinnati Reds were defeated by the Atlanta Braves 5-2
- 2:20:09And they are now trailing by 8.5 games in the National League Races
- 2:20:14The Cubs are losing their trailing by 4.5 ball games
- 2:20:17In that ball game the winning pitcher was Phil Neagle, the home run queen was the losing pitcher
- 2:20:20Cleve Boyer home in the fifth with a man on
- 2:20:22Atlanta by winning remaining 8.5 games back
- 2:20:25Philadelphia playing against the Dodgers at the end of one half inning
- 2:20:28Philadelphia won, the Dodgers coming up
- 2:20:30Dick Ellsworth pitching for the Phillies, John Drysdale going for the Dodgers
- 2:20:34And San Francisco beat Pittsburgh 8-4 and the winning pitcher McCormick, the losing pitcher was Pizarro
- 2:20:40Alright Ralph, stepping in now is Ed Charles
- 2:20:43And as their runners first and second, nobody else in the ass who has to protect against the sacrifice likelihood
- 2:20:49Larry Shurry steps off the rubber, yesterday Shurry got a save in the first game of the doubleheader
- 2:20:54Four-way blasting game, the 6-5 game, he worked two in the third inning, gave up one run on four hits
- 2:20:59He's a right hand pitcher
- 2:21:01And here is the pitch, it is, bunt it on and missed for strike one
- 2:21:06The Astros are playing it defensively with first baseman Doug Ray to charging
- 2:21:12Third baseman Aspermati going to the back, Shurry covering on the third base side
- 2:21:16And shortstop Lilis going to the bag at second
- 2:21:19Sarley Parker, cost time, comes down now to have a word again with Ed Charles
- 2:21:25He bunt it on the pitch and he missed it, it's strike one
- 2:21:28The Astros are leading 3-2
- 2:21:31On the pitch and Charles again, bunt and fouls it up the third base line
- 2:21:35A count goes to two strikes
- 2:21:37Greg Goosin is waiting on deck
- 2:21:40So twice, Charles has tried to bunt, missed once and fouled it once
- 2:21:45So now he is in a hole with a two strike count
- 2:21:53As you know, if he should try to bunt it when it bunt it foul, he's a strike out victim
- 2:21:57Time run at second, go ahead and run it first, nobody out in the ninth
- 2:22:07Larry Shurry takes the side from John Bateman
- 2:22:10Charles nothing for three in the ninth game, here's the pitch and it's low
- 2:22:15One and two
- 2:22:17Charles struck out, grounded out and grounded out
- 2:22:21Seasons batting average of 264
- 2:22:25Dan Schneider continues to throw, down to Houston both ends
- 2:22:32Runners lead, first and second
- 2:22:3550-20, on the ground is short, taken by Lillit, played to Morgan for one, the throw to first and he beats the relay
- 2:22:40So the middle man is out, and so my ghost is third
- 2:22:43Robota, with points at second base and Charles beats the relay
- 2:22:47So it gives Mets runners, at first and third, one man out and Greg Goosin coming up
- 2:22:52That's all for a conference now between Cassie Johnny Bateman and pitcher Larry Shurry
- 2:22:57So it's come to this, the Houston Astros would like to pull off a game ending double play
- 2:23:04And the New York Mets want to get that tag run in from third base
- 2:23:09Larry Stahl is throwing down in the Met bullpen at this moment
- 2:23:13And Tommy Reynolds is also throwing down there
- 2:23:21Grae Lee Hatton comes out of the dugout, he wants to know what this conference is about between Bateman and Shurry
- 2:23:27And Morgan is joining him also
- 2:23:29Greg Goosin is the batter, he has struck out, grounded out and popped out so far
- 2:23:34Seasons batting average of 250
- 2:23:37Goosin is a right hand batter
- 2:23:39Hatton is still out there, now he turns and comes back to the dugout
- 2:23:42They just want to know how they're going to work on Greg Goosin here
- 2:23:46Charles is the runner at first, Selmer is the runner at third
- 2:23:50Selmer is checking now with Staldy Parker at the third base, George, to see what he does on various situations
- 2:23:55Greg Goosin now is coming back to the dugout
- 2:23:59And Larry Stahl has come into the dugout
- 2:24:07West Western pacing up
- 2:24:10Goosin takes off the helmet
- 2:24:18Gary Grote has come out there to continue throwing with Tommy Reynolds in the bullpen area
- 2:24:24And here comes Larry Stahl, a left hand batter now
- 2:24:28Stahl is hitting 227 for the season, he has one home run and 14 runs batted in
- 2:24:34So now again Bateman goes out to talk to Shurry
- 2:24:37And Joe Morgan, the second baseman, comes in again to say again
- 2:24:40Want to figure out how they work to Larry Stahl
- 2:24:47One move right here that is probably one of the prime reasons why West has gone to a left hand batter
- 2:24:53Is to stay out of the double play, the left hander of course a little bit harder to double up
- 2:24:58And Greg Goosin is certainly a lot easier to double up than most ball players
- 2:25:03Alright with one man out, the Houston Astros are leading the Mets by a score of 3-2
- 2:25:10With the Mets batting in the top of the ninth
- 2:25:12The Mets have runners at first and third
- 2:25:15Larry Sherry is working in relief for Bo Balinski who is the pitcher of record
- 2:25:20Sherry takes the sign, Mets runners lead first and third
- 2:25:25The pitch to Larry Stahl, swung and hit on the ground foul, back up first
- 2:25:29Over the odd stretch club, a first baseman Doug Radier
- 2:25:33So Dick Selma who is off and running on the ground ball returns to third
- 2:25:39Charles tags up at first, a count of strike one to Larry Stahl
- 2:25:45Ed Cringpool is on deck for the Mets
- 2:25:48Now again Sherry sets up in deals
- 2:25:55This pitch is low, Astros started to go and lay it off and it's one and one
- 2:26:01The Mets got two runs here tonight in the top half of the first inning
- 2:26:05The Astros matched them with two in the bottom of the first
- 2:26:08And then the Astros got one in the bottom of the fourth
- 2:26:12And that's all the scoring we've had in this ball game
- 2:26:14Here's a pitch to Stahl, swung on and hit, one and two
- 2:26:20Dave Eilish starts to throw it out, out of the Houston bullpen along with Dan Schneider
- 2:26:27The count to Stahl has gone to one ball and two strikes
- 2:26:32Larry Stahl, Larry Sherry
- 2:26:37Leans forward, takes the sign, here's the pitch, low and the count evens at two and two
- 2:26:45Stahl steps back now
- 2:26:49Mopped his brow with the sleeve of his uniform
- 2:26:53Settled himself carefully back in, pounds the plate
- 2:26:57On the mound Larry Sherry, on the rubber, back in the mound
- 2:27:02Leans forward to take a sign from John Bateman
- 2:27:07Mets runners lead first and third, the pitch swung on and stalled off
- 2:27:12He's still alive at two and two
- 2:27:21The New York Mets and the Houston Astros battling here at the Astrodome
- 2:27:25In the third game of this five game series
- 2:27:28Yesterday the Astros won both ends of a double header, six to five and nine to one
- 2:27:36Stahl is back in and waiting, two to pitch, swung out and tossed up back to second base
- 2:27:42Bob Lilich goes out, Doma comes halfway, Lilich makes the catch
- 2:27:47Winners return, no way back, two away
- 2:27:53Short stop, Bob Lilich went out into short center field to make the catch of the high top
- 2:27:58Runners went halfway, returned after the catch, no advance and now Craneville is coming up
- 2:28:08Craneville tonight has climbed the lift, grounded out to first base and grounded out short to first
- 2:28:13Now again a conference at the mound, short stop Bob Lilich, second baseman Joe Morgan
- 2:28:18Pitcher Larry Sherry, catcher John Bateman
- 2:28:27The pitcher of record for Houston at this point
- 2:28:32Is Balinski and the pitcher of record at this point for the Mets is Ron Taylor
- 2:28:41Now the conference is broken up, Bateman comes back behind the plate
- 2:28:46Lilich back at short and Morgan at second, Craneville steps down
- 2:28:50Here Charles the runner at first, Dick Stelman the runner at third with two men out in the top of the ninth
- 2:28:55Houston leading three to two
- 2:28:57Here's the pitch that's high and away for ball one
- 2:29:07Larry Sherry on the rubber now, looks at again for the time
- 2:29:11He's up and set, here's the pitch, swung out, hit on the ground foul
- 2:29:14Back to first and into the dugout of the Houston Astros
- 2:29:21So the count goes one and one now to Ed Craneville
- 2:29:28Phil Lynch is waiting on deck, third baseman Bob Aspermonte comes over to have a word with Sherry
- 2:29:37The Astros play Craneville just about straight away
- 2:29:42He asks that the ball be examined, it starts in, Shag Crawford looks at it and leaves it in play
- 2:29:48The count to Craneville is one and one
- 2:29:54Now Sherry on the rubber, he takes the time
- 2:29:56Med runners lead first and third, a one one pitch, swung on and foul back off the screen out of play
- 2:30:01Now the count goes to one ball and two strikes
- 2:30:11Craneville, major distance
- 2:30:15Sherry takes the time, med runners lead first and third, the one two pitch and it's low
- 2:30:20Out of the glove of bateman he keeps it in front of him, rolls it about three or four feet up the third baseline
- 2:30:25No advance, runners holding first and third and the count to Craneville, two balls and two strikes
- 2:30:38Charles at first, Showman third
- 2:30:43Sherry has the sign, off the stretch, the two two pitch, point on it, hits it and foul back over
- 2:30:48Larry Sherry gets the three and it's a strike out here at Craneville to end the ball again
- 2:30:54As the Houston Astros win it by a score of three to two as the inning ends and the ball game ends with the Mets having the tying run after base
- 2:31:05So in the top of the ninth the Mets failed at court, they had a hit and a walk no errors and left two

- 2:32:20Ryne Gold
- 2:32:24Here at the Astrodome in Houston, Texas, the Astros have defeated the Mets 3 to 2 and to tell you something of how they did it here is Ralph Keiner
- 2:32:31All the starting pitchers in the ballgame are Bo Balinski and also Dennis Bennett
- 2:32:34And the game started off as though it might be a high scoring affair with neither pitcher going the distance
- 2:32:39It proved that Dennis Bennett did not go the distance but Bo Balinski was working on a one hitter as he started the ninth inning
- 2:32:44In the first inning Buddy Harrelson walked and Thion Jones was safer on air putting runners at first and second
- 2:32:49Tommy Davis singled the right field to drive in a run
- 2:32:52And that put the Mets in the position of having a runner at first and third
- 2:32:56Later on a wild pitch the Mets got their second run but Balinski got out of the inning as he picked up Eddie Crane for on the fly ball to left field
- 2:33:03Mets scoring two runs and one hit in the very first inning
- 2:33:06The Dodgers, the Astros quickly came back as they picked up a home run on their first batter Ron Davis
- 2:33:12It was his fifth this year, a double right after that by Joe Morgan put the time on his second base
- 2:33:17He moved over to third when he stole third base, that was his tenth field of the year and his first of two in the ballgame
- 2:33:22After that Jim Wynn picked up a run battered in as he granted down his short
- 2:33:26That was his 84th, he leads the majors and that was the second run for the Astros
- 2:33:30That put the score two to two as the Mets got out of the inning when Ron Taylor came in to pick up a double play on Bob Aspermone
- 2:33:36The Astros got what proved to be the winning run in the fourth inning on a double by Bob Aspermone
- 2:33:40He later on scored when the shortstop Bobby Lillis singled into right field to give the Astros their third run
- 2:33:46The Mets were held at bay and Bobalensky after getting in trouble in the first inning and starting the second with a walk
- 2:33:52Came in and then retired the next 19 batters as he worked through the eighth inning
- 2:33:57In the ninth inning Tommy Davis who had had the only base hit singled into left field as he let off the inning on the very first hit
- 2:34:03Ron Cebola worked out a walk on a three two pitch to put runners at first and second, the time run at second and the go ahead run at first
- 2:34:10That brought in Larry Sherry who was the star of the 1959 World Series for the Dodgers when he won two games and saved two
- 2:34:18Larry just about duplicated his great performance in 1959 as he got the next three batters striking out Ed Cranebore with the time run at third base and the go ahead run at first
- 2:34:28Larry Sherry got his fifth save and Bobalensky got his third win, Bo now with three wins and seven losses
- 2:34:35And the Astros now have won seven consecutive ball games and the Mets now have lost six consecutive ball games
- 2:34:41The best game the Bo and the pitch was back on May 5th, 1962 and Boalensky then no hit to Baltimore Orioles and won by a score of two to nothing
- 2:34:50Mets in July closed out their record with 14 wins and 17 losses and the Astros by winning won their 46th ball game
