When Ziklag Burned : Faith That Strengthens Itself in God When Everything Is Lost

1 Samuel 30:1–31

David returns to Ziklag expecting rest.

Instead, he finds smoke.

The city has been burned. The Amalekites have taken the women and children captive. Abigail and Ahinoam are gone. David's men look at the ruins of their homes and begin speaking of stoning him.

David has lost his home, his family, his possessions and, for a moment, the loyalty of his own men.

Then Scripture records one of the most important sentences in David's life:

"But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God."
